What are your expectations for Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy 3? What do you think his arc will be?
I'm trying really hard not to have any set expectations so I don't just kill myself in the cinema right away, basically all my theories regarding gotg 1 & 2 were wrong lol I have no idea what goes on in James Gunn's head. That's not a bad thing necessarily but it does make me nervous.
If I had to guess then I think it's likely they will somehow combine Rocket and Adam's origins by having the High Evolutionary involved in creating them both, it would be pretty easy to make Halfworld and Counter-Earth into just one planet filled with genetic experiments.
Gunn seemed to indicate that Adam will do something Very Bad and we see him hitting Nebula in the leaked footage so unless he's defeated by the power of love halfway through I think he'll spend the majority of the movie as an antagonist. With the cast crying over how relatively Dark and Emotional the story is I figure chances are high that Adam will live up to his mission statement from gotg2 and "Destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy", splitting the current team forever and maybe going as far as killing someone. That could serve as the breaking point for him or maybe the High Evolutionary leaves Adam to die like in the comics and that's why he decides to turn his back to (God) his creators and fly off into space to carve his own path or whatever.
The fact that he has the soul gem (? Not 100% confirmed ofc we don't actually know what magic rock he has yet but like come on) makes me very curious if Adam will somehow tie into Gamora's side of the story since they obviously have a long history in the comics + she's separated from the guardians and Thanos killed our main timeline Gamora for the soul stone.
Impossible to say though!!! Maybe once we have the actual trailer it'll give us a better idea but there's really not much to go on yet and Gunn isn't that loyal to the source material so lol.
I will be shocked if there's no Magus after credits stinger though bc that just seems really obvious but depends on what they do with Adam overall I guess, it's still early days.

Obviously James Gunn's actions are not acceptable and I cannot support what he said. But I've seen a lot of people saying "hahah fuck that bitch!" And "if you're worried about GOTG 3 you're a dumbass!" But like, me personally, I'm deeply and heavily invested in the story and characters in Gunn's series. I know that there are many many capable people who could complete he trilogy in a satisfactory way. Gunn's tweets are inexcusable but that doesn't mean he's not a talented writer. I'm scared for Guardians of the Galaxy because I'm not sure if the narrative and stylistic integrity of the trilogy as a whole should be jeprodized because of one person's stupid - horrible, really - remarks. Gunn should face repercussions for his actions, yes. But, and this is going to be my most controversial point, there are new horrors surfacing every day in Hollywood. Much more serious issues than some stupid, awful tweets. I don't know what should happen. Dispite his tweets I think that the mature thing is to continue to recognize that Gunn was amoung the most talented of the marvel writers/directors. I can separate art from its creators. I don't know. I don't really think Gunn should stay on but I do not, in all sincerity, think anyone else could replicate his storytelling in a satisfactory way. I don't know. I don't know

Some underrated Endgame stuff that needs more attention on this site:
1) The movie stretching Paul Rudd’s dramatic chops. Seriously, I got so used to Scott being the funny guy that it was a welcome surprise to have him do dark drama. The Cassie-Scott reunion scene, as well as him frantically looking for Cassie’s name on the dusted tombs, were some of my favorite parts of the movie. Let Paul Rudd do more drama in the next Ant-Man and the Wasp movie! He’s got the skills!
2) Nebula’s entire arc. Nebula is, going on record, my favorite member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Endgame felt like the completion of her redemption arc that started in GOTG2. Seeing her as a full-time member of the Guardians made me smile and hyped me up for GOTG3.
3) The fact that certain actors agreed to come back and do cameo appearances. I didn’t think they would get Robert Redford to come back. Seeing Michael Douglas come back, even for a short role, makes me happy that he’s not tired of the Ant-Man and Wasp movies just yet. They even got Michelle Pfeiffer for a few seconds! But the best cameo had to be James D’Arcy coming back to play OG Jarvis. We finally got some recognition of the TV shows from the movies.
4) The subtle passing-of-the-torch scene. The torch, which is the Infinity Gauntlet, starts off in the possession of Clint Barton, a member of the OG6 Avengers. He then passes it off to T’Challa, who passes it to Peter Parker, who then passes it off to Carol Danvers. The OG6 Avenger Clint passed the torch to the three new faces of the MCU.
5) The fact that Endgame belongs to the “weird side of Marvel” and the non-comic book reading audience was fine with it. Remember back in the day that superhero movies were afraid of going all-out with the source material? Endgame dove deep into the weird side of the Marvel universe and people were fine with it.
6) This isn’t really a comment on the movie but I love how Peter Quill and Gamora have the same arc as Fitz and Simmons in AOS season 6. Fitz is in Gamora’s role while Jemma is in Quill’s role.
7) Clint Barton starts the movie off. Clint actually being treated as a main character. I’m a big Hawkeye fan so seeing the guy actually be treated as a main character was a plus. They even made him the first character you see in the movie. We’ve come a long way from Joss Whedon just making him the arrow guy.
8) Even though Captain Marvel didn’t get to do much, at least when Carol shows up, they don’t try to weaken her. She’s a freaking tank and the fact that it took Thanos using the Power Stone against her just to get her off of him is a testament to her power. Also, the haircut is awesome.
9) Ant-Man, the Avenger who people laughed at and the one that this website rejected years ago (but has now since embraced), is the one to come up with the plan to save the universe. Fucking Ant-Man saved the universe and he didn’t have to go up anyone’s ass to do it, I love it. The rat gets credit too.

THEORY
Okay so I'm watching gotg2 for the first time and Ego said that he visited earth three times to see Quill's mother. Now, we all know that Ego said he had been mating with multiple beings and I believe that of those three times he visited, he had a baby with another woman. The first of those obviously being Quill. I believe that another on of those times was with Jane Foster's mother. In thor2 Jane comes in contact with an infinity stone, absorbs it, and it doesn't kill her. So I believe that Jane is also part celestial but the reason for her not being picked up is still unknown to me. Anyway another visitation happened with a child that we don't know about. In the caverns where all the bones of his children are located, there's a human skull in there. Now I know "there could be other beings with the same bone structure" but come on that's not likely. So I believe that that person didn't have the connection to the light source he (Ego) killed him. So that's basically my theory on Ego's kids three of which being from Earth so Jane and Quill are half siblings and have another missing earth child that they've never heard of along with a million other dead siblings change my mind

sorting out this fanfic in terms of how the narrative is based in music, because that’s one thing i was always fascinated with watching the gotg series. i’m editing a playlist and trying to understand what would work on a number of different levels.
growing up, my parents would be playing a lot of ‘classic’ music in the living room. we had a whole big shelf with albums from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s, and compilation discs that they got in newspapers. they were born in the 50′s, and so i ended up hearing a whole mix of bands - The Who, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Dire Straits, Queen, ABBA, the Carpenters and Paul Simon for example. i also got a massive kick out of listening to the car radio on long road trips, such as to my mum’s parents’ house. at the time we had a car that had 6 buttons that were devoted to a particular CD that we could put in and it would play a CD that you wanted by remembering the number it was connected to. i had preferences - the Eagles, ABBA and the Carpenters - but i often heard a whole number of individual songs from different artists since some of my favourites were off Greatest Hits albums. the most i ever remember us having of was the Beatles, but we generally had compilation albums, or one or two albums from each artist, so my childhood and adolescence was a lot to do with a colourful range of artists and songs rather than a range of albums from a few different artists.
i still generally got into more modern bands at the time - Breaking Benjamin, McFly, Steps, Relient K - but i got more into them as i got older. but that combination was always still there and i’d have my iPod with both classic and modern music on it depending on what mood i was in. certain songs i remember i always carry a certain place in my heart because of their emotional impact on me - Annie’s Song by John Denver, Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel, Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole and Yesterday Once More by the Carpenters as the most significant ones, although the Eagles and the Beatles always had their fair share that i had a soft spot for as well.
the point is, since i’ve started writing this fanfic and it’s based off the gotg series in general known for this narrative play which is something i’ve realised has been really important to me and i really connect with, i’m feeling super invested in writing it. i can relate to that source of not only pleasure but also of an emotional centre that Peter manages to find in music, and in that way i can understand how my music tastes came to be and how they changed. it’s part of a whole journey and since i feel an intense familiarity (to an obvious extent) with the second film, it makes sense to explore my feelings in a narrative like this, with music that has made sense to me throughout my life and what has stood out at different points in time.
at this point, it’s a case of:
1) what makes the most narrative sense - i don’t want to put music in for the sake of it, but mean something at certain points in the story; i definitely want a few songs because music has been a great deal important to me throughout my life and there’s a reason i connected to a degree with a narrative like this
2) songs that have had an emotional impact throughout my life for very good reasons, and aren’t just a whole load of songs put down out of nostalgia - i know certain songs i have felt more of a connection to than others as i’ve grown up and gotten older, but at the same time, i want it to work for the AU i’m planning out and aren’t there just because it fits with that point in it, and i can’t explore my general feelings naturally if i’m just forcing songs in for the sake of the narrative
3) the vibes of the song as much as what the song’s about - sometimes the song is about something that makes sense to me but the music and general vibe doesn’t feel right, especially in parallel to how we see the music play out in gotg2
i think what especially helps is a lot of the songs i listened to growing up were part of decades i never experienced and as much it has that nostalgic, feel-good vibe, they are clearly hugely relevant to their time and not something i can personally relate to and always understand

Captain Marvel
I actually walked into this with the Mrs with fairly high expectations, not from knowing any of Brie Larson's previous work (other than knowing she'd already won an Oscar for "Room"), but because Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have delivered time and time again, *especially* on the more obscure or ridiculous characters. I remember as a kid thinking: what kind of stupid character is Ant Man, where every issue I'd read his only use was to get inside a computer and rip out the wires. With Captain Marvel, I didn't even really know who she was. Lesser studios would've set this film up with low expectations, introducing a relatively low profile character; Marvel looks at this as an opportunity to tell a new story.
And boy did they. Without giving too much away, they manage to truly surprise in this film. Not a spoiler: this film is hillarious; wife and I were laughing and grinning from beginning to end. Without giving too much away, it's great to see Ben Ben Mendelsohn excercise his comedic chops; without spoiling the context, he gives one of the funniest on screen eye rolls ever.
The unrelenting pacing never let up; bouncing around between comedy (especially if you remember the 90's), action, mystery, there was never a part that dragged. For me, I haven't had this much fun in a film since the original Gotg; where they managed to make the entirety of the film funny, but still have high stakes, without fully crossing the line into silly (like Gotg 2 did, where 2/3 of the jokes were simply Drax laughing).
Your mileage may vary:
Well, ok, it crossed the line into silly when they were experiencing 6 g's. Maybe a little *too* comic book a moment. And while inextricably entwined with the rest of the MCU, it wasn't the deepest film.
If you're a die hard comic book fan, and you think everything needs to be completely true to the source material to be good, you will have many problems with this film; not least of which is them flipping the script on a few things, including her origin (personally this one's better, although it leaves me with another plot hole). On the other hand, they *did* throw in pretty much every comic book iteration of her hair / helmet as fan service.
The obvious comparison to a female led super hero film is 2015's Wonder Woman (which was also good); I've read complaints that Gal Gadot had a more powerful on-screen presence. True; she was cast perfectly, and looked the part of a Greek God. You might have issues with Marvel's equivalent fumbling around 'stilted dialogue' and mostly winking and smirking; this didn't bother us because the origin story *is* Carol Danvers discovering her own origin, and she initially has no idea what she's capable of.
I thought they did a really good job of de-aging Sam Jackson and Clark Gregg (not really surprising, considering the how well they de-aged Kurt Russel for the opening of GotG2), but I've seen reviews calling it creepy. I'll admit, it's not 100% natural looking yet, but for an action film (as opposed to a serious drama), I thought it held up. *Much* more natural than the CGI characters in Star Wars: Rogue One.
If you're tired of origin stories (but how else are they supposed to introduce the lesser known characters? Spiderman didn't need an origin story because of how well known the character already was). Also, if you're tired of buddy road trip comedies.
If you don't have a love for 90's music; the soundtrack was really great! Although not quite up to the lofty standards of GotG.
You won't like this if you dislike cats (or flerken), or need your super heroines to wear skimpy outfits.
You might even enjoy this film more than the Mrs and I did, if you view the character as a living embodiment of redefining female empowerment. Inspiring, even.
Oh, and for the reviewers out there who were confused by why a flerken cat is named Goose? Top Gun. Maverick (Tom Cruise's) co-pilot. Same reason the original comic named it Chewie (although ironically, that name still would've made sense here). Watch the film again, and you'll see why.
*We* plan to!
Pure fun. 9.3/10, A-
*note "fun" and quality of a film aren't completely tied together; The Dark Knight is a 10/10 A++, but it's not the most "fun" film.
