stressed out of my mind because a guy i know is transphobic and very misinformed on the topic and ive been trying my very best to explain things to him but its not been very effective so far and he keeps talking to trans kids and shit and in an effort to "help" them he straight up recommends conversion therapy and other things like that, and making those people extremely uncomfortable!! and because ive talked to him multiple times i feel like its my responsibility to get him to stop doing that somehow but ive literally no idea what to do!!!!! what the hell man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My life is like not a political play ground for you. Can you stop expecting an almost 15 year old to explain the complexities of transgenderism every time I mention that I’m trans or come out to you. Or like stop expecting me to explain my thought process behind it. It’s not something I can just explain it’s a feeling, it’s how I was raised, it’s the parts of my mind I struggle to even acknowledge or understand, it’s how I feel and see the world, it’s my opinions of politics and religion, it is in everything for me and yet I still couldn’t explain the exact complexity of it.
I think so many of those times anyway, of people wanting me to explain why I think this is who I am, is because they want understanding in a way of experience. You are cis. You cannot experience it unless you do experience it in a way that wouldn’t make you cis anymore.
I think so much of the time those people feel the need to experience to believe, and that we can’t change for them. That’s something they have to come to terms with or simply get past.
I just brain farted transgenderism thoughts sorry dont Even know if it made sense but
I colored the words red tho bc I’m angry and Angsty about this 😈😈😈 but then it bothered my brain so I changed it back

Unpopular Opinion: I don't like people using AGAB terminology for me. (I do not have an AGAB. I was AGAB, as in, I was assigned a gender at birth. Once. 20+ years ago. It's not an ongoing thing.)
Niche pet-peeve related to the unpopular opinion: When people say our alters have an AGAB. (The only part of us that was born was the body how the fuck can we have AGAB)

Hi, I’m glad I could reach out to you and hope this reaches you well. You’re a very popular blog on here and trans gender as well.
So you can understand that people want to stop KOSA, which is a bill that will censor much of this website including anything related to transgenderism and hrt. I know that this seems horrible but we need to spread the word so it gets stopped again.
Thanks so much and sorry if i bothered you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m so sorry if this seems long but I really appreciate it and if you could spread the word, since censorship of the internet will affect every single person on it.
thank you so much for gathering all these sources. to anyone who sees this and is able, I urge you to call or email a senator. we don't have a lot of control in the United States, but this is a way we can have some agency against KOSA. I have the link for the Change.org page below

as another fruity tguy i really REALLY love the way u draw men so so much i see your work and i feel warm from head to toe cause you make trans men so beautiful. i can feel in every work that you love transmascs and being a tmasc and it comes thru in every paintstroke to me.
sorry to hijack with a big paragraph but last anon rly spoke to me and i wanted to share my experience if its ok
to last anon-- my journey is perhaps different from others but for me when i started T i also felt like it was the most important, life or death thing, but after spending time on T i found that even if the results werent as Manly as i was hoping for originally, i suddenly found myself in love with the simple fact that i had changed and my body had changed in a way that was on MY terms, even if it wasnt """perfectly passing"". since then ive found that not having T or having to lower my dosage was no longer painful or frightening.. im not sure how else to explain it other than At First, it felt like the testosterone was trying to fight Against the woman that Was my body, to sort of Transform it completely into this Man, but one day i just suddenly realized "oh. im not fighting anymore. and im actually pretty happy" and even tho i wasnt Perfectly masc by a long shot there was suddenly.. peace. i fell in love with my patchy body hair and my funny voice and my weird dick and then to my own suprise i found myself falling in love with the things i used to hate and wanted to get rid of. i suddenly loved my boobs (i wanted top surgery for YEARS before t) i loved my eyelashes, i loved the way my body looked in womens clothes, and i still loved being a man. im still a man and happier with that than ive ever been, but im more feminine now than i really ever have been! and its because suddenly being a man and having this mans body was something that belonged to ME, not to anyone else. this happiness and this body were on MY terms!!! so anon, i hope that you can try hormones and you get to explore the changes that bring you joy and that you find even more joy in the things you never expected before. but if you dont get hrt? youre still one of us always. i hope you will still find the love in your heart for yourself and the man you are regardless. peace and love and trangenderism ❤️
just want to add on that i relate heavily to your part about "falling in love with the things i used to hate and wanted to get rid of" because my chest was one of my biggest source of grief pre-T and could not imagine a life for myself without top surgery, and even injured myself from binding too much. but something about being on hrt and finally seeing and experiencing myself with more masc features (and living my life as a guy, in my own way) gradually flipped a switch in my brain and i started to love my boobs. and then when i stopped T i was worried and scared i would lose that love, but now i actually love them more than ever (if my art wasnt indication enough hehe). there's so many ways to be trans, and be a man, and i'm so grateful i gave myself the patience and space to explore that, and that i can continue to explore and experience joy with it. peace and love and transgenderism forever 💙

What do u think about the arguments of the brains on transgender people? I have seen that the standard response is "brain sex is not a thing". But I have seen that there is a great discussion between scientists about this and there are proofs that brains between men and women are different in some little ways. I also see this through autism lens, because I'm autistic and females are underdiagnosed and there is a discussion about it too: socialization or brain differences that make more easy the masking and faking neurotypical behaviour.
But of course, even if the brain argument is correct, I don't see how transition is the logical next step to take then. Like, is ur brain, u can take therapy and be gender nonconforming if that's the case anyway. Brain can be trained due to neuroplasticity and kids with gender dysphoria can be treated in a way to become more comfortable in their bodies.
Sorry for my poor english, I'm chilean.
Hi, thank you for your question. Don't worry, English isn't my first language either.
So, this is hard to answer. The short answer is that no, brain sex isn't real. If brain sex is not real, then trans-identified males cannot be born with a "female brain." I feel like this has been retired as an argument for transgenderism, as it's not only a nebulous concept but also goes against the concept that you can identify as anything you want (ie: no biological component to gender).
The long answer is that it's complicated. We don't know enough about the brain to fully understand which part does what, let alone what minute differences there may or may not be between the functioning of a male and a female brain. It's been proven that men and women use different parts of the brain to process the same information, so while there are no structural differences, there could be functional differences that we simply don't know about yet.
@woman-for-women has an excellent post about brain sex here (archive), and I'll use the sources she links as references for my next points. Go check out her posts, seriously, she's incredibly thorough and condenses difficult subjects into easy-to-digest infographics.
I'll first go over brain sex, why it's not real / not proven, and consequently why a male having a "female brain" is impossible. This turned out to be very long, so more under the cut.
In my opinion: the myth that males and females behave differently because of innate differences in brain structure comes from 2 things:
Logic / Common sense. If you present a man with a stressful situation, he will not react the same way a woman would. In our everyday lives, it's easy to assume that men and women are simply wired differently, since we have unique behaviours and thought patterns. Contrary to popular belief, most of this doesn't stem from innate biological differences, but rather from gendered socialization. It's hard for us to gauge what portion of our gendered differences is nature (innate) and which portion is nurture (socialization).
Anecdotal evidence and misconceptions about brain function. In the 18th century, it was discovered that a woman's brain weighs on average 5 oz lighter than a man's. This would lead the general public to assume that, since a woman's brain is smaller, this has an impact on her overall intelligence, which is not true.
Tumblr media
Assumptions are often made in the general public and even in neuroscience when it comes to which part of the brain does what based on preexisting notions of what a man is and what a woman is. The study I just showed, for instance, was misconstrued in order to strengthen sex-based stereotypes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a surprise, my personal interpretation of my results just coincidentally happened to match gendered stereotypes that I was taught. How bizarre.
In all seriousness, this study and its methods have been ripped to shreds by people much smarter than I.
"As Gina Rippon, author of The Gendered Brain and outspoken critic of neurosexism shows, the hunt for proof of women’s inferiority has more recently elided into the hunt for proof of male–female ‘complementarity’. So, this line goes, women are not really less intelligent than men, just ‘different’ in a way that happens to coincide with biblical teachings and the status quo of gender roles. Thus, women’s brains are said to be wired for empathy and intuition, whereas male brains are supposed to be optimized for reason and action."
In reality, according to more recent studies with bigger sample sizes, men and women don't have significant differences in brain structure to conclusively say that brains are sexually dimorphic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're a more visual person, here are the graphs from the first study, showing overall brain matter volumes and volumes for specific brain structures. The second study's visualizations are less easy to understand, as they're brain scans and brain tissue images.
Tumblr media
These graphs are called bell curves, and they're used to demonstrate a distribution. Basically, the peak of the "bell" shape means that this is the most common value for a certain demographic, while the extremities are outliers or rarer values.
As you can see, "considerable distributional overlap" means that these bell curves are nearly identical in most brain structures. However, white matter, grey matter and total brain volume are different in men and women, with women in this study typically having lower numbers. This doesn't affect overall intelligence, as we saw earlier, or affect the overall proportional volumes of different brain structures. This is just a result of women having smaller skulls on average.
So, if there is so much overlap between the sexes, then why can't a male have a female brain? The graphs do have overlapping sections, don't they?
The thing is, brain structure is nearly identical in both sexes. Therefore, there is no typically "female" or "male" brain, but rather "unique mosaics of features" which aren't uniquely male or female.
A good analogy that woman-for-women gives is this: if a man's height is closer to an average woman's height, does that mean this man is now a woman? No, he is a short male. Being in the overlap of this graph doesn't mean that you aren't a part of your own bell curve.
Tumblr media
This is a complex topic that was very interesting to look into. If you have more questions about this, feel free to send another ask or look into the sources:

Real curious about trigun but I got three questions:
1) what's up with the Christian vibes?
2)the blond guys (plants???) have trans vibes, actual coding or just an accident? (fine either way just curious)
3) what's the plot? Space cowboys?
Anyways Millie is cool, (I once mistook the girl typically next to her for that guy from genshin impact)
1) Christian vibes are why I want to lock myself in a room for a month and emerge with a 3 hour video essay about Trigun very very badly right now.
Trigun spends a lot of time exploring Forgiveness, Mercy, and Redemption, which are famously also the themes of Jesus' wacky adventures in the New Testament.
But. You know how in the old testament there was like a bunch of Divine Wrath and stuff? And it feels really incongruent with the forgiveness in the New Testament sometimes. And also for many centuries Christians have cited God's divine acts of wrath as justification for incredible acts of cruelty against their fellow man? You know how that history of cruelty and punishment is, at this point, just as synonymous with Christianity as the Jesus Forgiveness stuff?
Well Trigun is about how the Jesus Forgiveness stuff is better. Not because Jesus said so but because of the enormous OBSERVABLE positive impact that forgiveness and redemption can have. Positive impact that wrath and retribution rob all parties involved of the chance to witness.
Trigun tells a story which demonstrates this in largely secular situations but underscores both the forgiveness and the wrath with divine imagery. And since both the forgiveness and the wrath are equally visually tied to the divine, symbols of divinity cannot be considered synonymous with perfection, unerring judgement, nor inherent rightness or goodness. Divinity becomes simply a symbol of power, and power is a double-edged sword as well. The power to do good is also the power to cause massive harm, and in many cases people will treat power pessimistically out of an understandable will for self-preservation.
But power is neither inherently good nor bad-- power ultimately reflects the flawed and fallible person weilding it. I could go on but this is really long so I'll stop lol :)
WAIT. Divinity = Power, Angels are the symbol of Divinity, Angels are messengers of God, Communication and connecting with others is emphasized, Communication = Power = Divinity ok I'll stop for real tee hee
2) I don't know if the trans coding was intentional, but HOLY SHIT is it THERE.
Most blatantly, Vash and Knives are Plants, and every other Plant we see is referred to as a woman/has female secondary sex characteristics.
Also Plants visually resemble angels, and it's common belief angels do not have gender like humans do since they are pure and holy beings. I couldn't quickly find a source for that, but I know that Alchemy has some emphasis on hermaphroditism as, like, the holier form. So I guess by that logic you could also say they're intersex but I'm veering off topic.
Thirdly in the 1998 anime they gave the child versions of Vash and Knives long hair that ended up being cut off in ways that symbolized important developments in their identities. Knives example is what I have on hand lol. It just smacks of transgenderism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3) DEEP SPACE PLANET FUTURE GUN ACTION!!!!
Wacky space cowboy Vash the Stampede roams the space desert planet where humans are barely hanging onto survival using the tech of their spacefaring ancestors! He can shoot with perfect accuracy, and is wanted for DESTROYING AN ENTIRE CITY, but is a staunch pacifist?! How odd!
What's Vash's deal? What happened that made humans unable to go back to space? Why'd they land on this desert planet that sucks to live on? Learn this and much more in TRIGUN!

There was some discourse on TRAblr about ''afab trans women'' and...lol. TIMs reaction are...
Here's a tim who admits that sex is in fact socially important and that females cannot experiece ''transmisogyny'': https://www.tumblr.com/dialogusnes/742502165351989248/hi-so-good-morning-im-not-super-into-discourse?source=share
A tim who basically says ''trans woman is not a feeling'': https://www.tumblr.com/frankendykes-monster/742515545975455744?source=share
Another one "why do you view trans womanhood as a vibe": https://www.tumblr.com/marxism-transgenderism/742400603791261696/afab-trans-woman-why-do-you-view-trans-womanhood?source=share
I think the discourse started with this post:
https://www.tumblr.com/alyrch99/742523057330143232/aita-for-warning-new-transfem-friends-that-someone?source=share
yeah i mean these are all certified batshit and we could spend all day picking apart why each one is so clearly wrong but the bottom line is that they really don't care about being right or being grounded in reality, they'll say anything in order to frame themselves as the victim
like notice how much of those posts is spent in wallowing and self-pity and how much of them is not spent explaining why "afab trans women" aren't valid if sex isn't real and everyone's gender can be whatever

Ok, some time ago I told @transgenderer something to the effect of "if you want to acquire a good understanding of the cross-linguistic patterns in phonology, you kinda just have to read a bunch of grammars and phonology papers; it's difficult to find a source which summarizes all the data comprehensively and neutrally". And that's unfortunately true, but crucially I did forget to mention the existence of searchable typological databases. For phonological inventories there's PHOIBLE, for general language structures there's WALS, there's also a lot of data at the UCLA Phonetics Lab Archive, and for rare features and putative universals, there's the Universität Konstanz Rara & Universals Archive. There used to be something specifically for phonotactics, the World Phonotactics Database at http://phonotactics.anu.edu.au/, but it's no longer online. Apparently they are planning to bring it back eventually.
These are all great starting points for getting a sense of what does and does not occur in language and how widely. None of them (well, excluding the UCLA Phonetics Lab Archive because that's not really a typological database) should be trusted about any specific language without consultation of the relevant literature. Despite best efforts on the parts of the people who organize these projects, the fact is that many languages are simply very poorly documented and ill-understood, and these databases must make a choice on how to code the relevant data points, leaving aside crucial information about the level of certainty. On top of that, especially before recent times many authors used idiosyncratic notation that may be ambiguous or have been misunderstood by the people entering the data into the database, etc.
PHOIBLE is especially sensitive to the fact that what phonetic symbols are assigned to the phonemes of a language is to some extent an arbitrary choice on the part of whoever is doing the analysis. Usually you'll pick something like the most common phonetic realization of the phoneme, or the realization in the least marked environment, or something like that, but ultimately (moderately controversial claim incoming) there's no ascertainable ground truth to what the underlying values of individual phonemes "really are". The whole point of phonemes is that they have a range of values in different environments! So there's ground truth to phonological system as a whole, and assigning specific phonetic symbols to each phoneme is a convenient way to distill the gist of phonetic realization at a glance, but it's ultimately kind of arbitrary. Looking at phoneme inventories can give you a sense of the kind of phonetic features which tend to be contrastive crosslinguistically, but but you have to be very careful interpreting the data.
Uh, right, so these databases are useful tools, especially because they're searchable. But you have to be really careful with them.
