ohh i forgot to write down the dream i had! tl;dr get on the bus & go away
the first was waking up in like a somewhat post-apocalyptic zone. i'd played this game/been here before so i had an inkling of what was going on, but nobody else in the group did & i didn't want to spoil the immersion. it was a desert in the middle of a really flat area, with wrecked buildings in various states of being covered by sand. there were mountains to the north. it was dusty late afternoon. my dad & sister were there. my mom is never in these kinds of dreams even though her house is a prominent location.
there were "natives" of this area - survivors? they huddled in the building ruins in the dark & their general consensus was that we had to spread out - the apocalypse had started a few months ago, but it was still kind of ongoing? whatever caused it hadn't really left yet - it was just still looking around? idk. anyway bars & buses & stuff still worked - underground transportation was collapsed. we had to split into several groups & head off to find sanctuary elsewhere.
after following them through the ruins to the edges of the city, it was night now & i got on a bus with my dad & sister. this one ewas headed north towards the mountain. there was another bus headed west-ish, & then a convoy of salvaged cars headed kind of southwest across the sand.
i woke up briefly & went back to sleep while getting on the bus. now the bus was like 3 stories & kind of built like an art museum?? it was still definitely a bus but like. height of luxury. then it eventually got crunched down back to one floor. still very nice inside& now full of people from irl & some people from high school (cringe!). bus interior details: wide carpeted center aisle, chandelier, general warm but not too bright lighting, velvet curtains on the windows?? anyway one of my friends was now in control of the bus as the navigator. she sat on a chair facing backwards fsr - i think her family had some connection to this. my old roommate from study abroad trip was also there briefly.
we got to the location. it was another fancy area - really huge, a lodge that was part of a huge entirely enclosed resort. somehow there were now like 50 or 60 of us. we were gender segregated told to get roooms & i went to pick my room! picked a bed next to a wall in a 3 bed room & dropped my stuff on it & went to walk around. apparently down the hall from this room there was another door that connected directly to the "men's side lobby area". i walked around a bit more - found like a 5 story mall area with a glass ceiling that was also hosting a watergun contest, & then i looped back around to my room to see that someone had put a pillow over my stuff & claimed my bed. i was lik "dude what hte hell is your problem ? you can't just pretend my stuff doesn't exist" but unfortunately this girl was surrounded by her girl friends who did NOT like me so even if i wrested control of my bed back i would just have a miserable sleeping & room sharing experience. also the room had way more beds in it than before. i ended up taking my shit & just seething while walking away trying to find someone n charge who could tell me if there were any spare rooms left. there weren't. i was trying to explain my case too & they weere like "well we can't really do anything about that :/" okay so i'll just sleep outside then. fuck you

Oh, you're at the mall already? I guess you're heading to finalise those deals, right?
Maybe you should start at wobblewagon. The sooner you don't have to strain yourself walking, the better probably...
*Oh yeah the deals! hfffff I very nearly forgot that I was here on business too...
*At a place this fun why would you care to remember business exists at all? The New Summers county mall was a beacon of excess in the southwest not seen outside places like casinos. The large climate controlled shopping mega center, complete with its own underground parking, had every shop under the sun; an enormous food court situated next to a variety of traditional dining establishments; as well as a large arcade and amusement center. Within moments of getting past those doors Mettaton of course planted his ass into the plush seat of a doublewide WobbleWagon rental scooters and leisurely rolling towards the company's local dealership in the mall for his meeting and all the while looking in shop windows at some of the products on display.

West African Chefs Take a Page From the Fast-Casual Playbook
For these second-generation business owners, the familiar format offers a gateway to a wider audience.

Oct. 3, 2022
HOUSTON — At POST Houston, a popular food hall, the lines stretch long for ChòpnBlọk, where the Nigerian American owner Ope Amosu offers a familiar customizable template — rice, vegetables, protein — that are deeply influenced by his West African pride, and his London-born, Houston-raised identity.
Tumblr media
Take the Golden, a nod to the Gold Coast of West Africa — and to Mr. Amosu’s stint as a prep cook at Chipotle while still working as a corporate sales executive. The hearty meal includes smoky jollof rice with a Creole twist, plantains, roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts, and comes with a vegan honey bean coconut curry that’s at once sweet and alluringly tangy. To top it all, customers can choose from various proteins marinated in Cameroon pepper.
The traditional West African restaurants that dot southwest Houston are cozy, dimly lit spaces and often family-owned. But at restaurants like ChòpnBlọk, which regularly appears on the city’s dining lists and is lauded on social media by celebrities like the “Insecure” star Yvonne Orji and the rappers Jidenna and Wale, the West African flavors and staples are quicker, more casual and — their owners argue — more accessible to non-African diners.
Tumblr media
“We’re not trying to convince people our food is good or worthy — we already know that it is,” Mr. Amosu said. “I am, however, trying to tell our story and welcome people in who may be nervous about going to a place that feels a bit unfamiliar.”
In food halls, strip malls and shopping centers across the United States, fast-casual West African restaurants are proliferating, and the second-generation owners behind them are at once showcasing the range of these cuisines and debunking reductive myths about them.
At the Senegalese chef Pierre Thiam’s restaurant Teranga in New York City, deeply flavored customizable grain bowls help to counter racist Western perceptions that can diminish the value of the region’s cuisine.
“I hope that it helps dispel the lies that make you think of Africa as a continent of scarcity,” Mr. Thiam said. “There’s so much abundance, and there’s so much creativity that’s coming from the continent, and we get to show them that story through our food.”
Tumblr media
The fast-casual model allows West African chefs to preserve the region’s classic flavors as well as incorporate elements of their American upbringings in a format that is recognizable to diners less familiar with the cuisine.
“We’re creating a gateway to West African food,” said Olumide Shokunbi, the owner of Spice Kitchen in Brentwood, Md.
Like Mr. Amosu, Mr. Shokunbi attended the school of Chipotle — one of the nation’s best examples of fast-casual success. During college, he began working at a Chipotle franchise on the side as he explored opening his own business.
His Spice Kitchen adopts some central components of the fast-casual model: biodegradable serving bowls, customizable meals and a varied interpretation of storied cuisines. Since it opened last fall, the restaurant has offered salmon and shrimp alongside suya — Nigerian seasoned, skewered and grilled meats — and sides like spinach efo riro, jollof rice and grilled corn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At Suya Suya West African Grill in Philadelphia, the owner Dera Nd-Ezuma, who developed a love for tacos after immigrating from Abuja, Nigeria, to New Jersey in 2007, takes a similar approach. To amplify traditional dishes like steak marinated in Nigerian yaji, Mr. Nd-Ezuma leans into his love of tacos and offers them filled with chicken and steak suya in the requisite brown to-go container.
“There’s a reason why our restaurants are finding success,” he added. “People want to experience this cuisine, and they want to do it in a way that feels comfortable.”
Having gone to many of the city’s more conventional Nigerian restaurants, Mr. Nd-Ezuma said he sometimes found the atmosphere intimidating.
“When I get to go to African restaurants and I try to order, the menu can be a little bit overwhelming, so I can only imagine what it’s like for non-Africans,” Mr. Nd-Ezuma said.
Tumblr media
Citing a psychology construct called “openness to experience,” which is a high predictor of whether someone would try different cuisines, Germine Awad, a professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, said that it’s not how something is served that draws patrons in, but rather their natural curiosity levels.
The growing interest in West African food within the restaurant industry aligns with immigration trends. “The more folks that come, the higher the demand for food that’s authentic and a true reflection of that community,” Ms. Awad said.
In 1980, there were about 40,000 West African immigrants living in the United States, according to data from the Pew Research Center. By 2019, that number had grown exponentially, to 890,000. Nigerian immigrants are the largest group from the region, with the most sizable communities living in cities like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, New York City and Washington, D.C.
The inevitable expansion of fast-casual West African restaurants will continue bringing these foodways to the forefront of American dining — an overdue change, Ms. Awad believes, in the culinary world.
“It’s not just enough to have these restaurants available to people, this cuisine has to be recognized for how complex and amazing it is,” she said. “That’s the true next step for expanding the idea of the average culinary experience in the United States.”
At Teranga in San Francisco (no relation to Mr. Thiam’s restaurant), the Senegalese chef Nafy Flatley-Ba creates dishes like chicken drumsticks marinated in baobab, tamarind and Dijon, a family specialty. Highlighting Senegalese flavors is a top priority for Ms. Flatley-Ba, but equally important is showing that women can and should play a leading role in contemporary West African dining.
“It hasn’t been easy to introduce fast-casual, yet super nutritious and healthy West African food,” Ms. Flatley-Ba said. “But I have been doing it.”
Tumblr media
Some conventional West African diners might complain that the foods at these fast-casual restaurants isn’t traditional. But that’s not Mr. Amosu’s primary concern at ChòpnBlọk. The restaurant is a chance to revel in his heritage, by creating dishes that expand on the narratives of the region’s cuisines.
“Our stuff bangs, too, and everybody should know about it,” Mr. Amosu said. “There’s no reason why we should be so insular with the pride that we have for our culture.”
Authenticity and fast-casual service aren’t mutually exclusive, and Hema Agwu and Folusho Adeyemo, the Nigerian American owners of Brooklyn Suya in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, have no interest in compromising West African flavors to please Western appetites.
Tumblr media
“It’s all about finding the balance of being both authentic and contemporary, you know, and open for a new audience,” Mr. Agwu said.
The menu reflects multiple cultures, integrating American ingredients like kale and avocado into their suya bowls, which can come with shrimp, chicken, eggplant or tofu marinated in suya spice. But the real common ground, Mr. Agwu said, comes on the side.
“Americans love sauce,” Mr. Agwu said. “We have to give the people what they want.”

At least 20 people have been killed, including two children, in Russian missile attacks on a village near the Ukrainian port city of Odesa, authorities said, a day after Russian invading forces withdrew from a strategic Black Sea island.
Video of the pre-dawn attack showed the charred remains of buildings in the small town of Serhiyivka, located about 50 kilometers southwest of Odesa. Ukrainian news reports said missiles struck a multistory apartment building and a recreation center.
“A terrorist country is killing our people. In response to defeats on the battlefield, they fight civilians," Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Twitter.
Ukrainian emergency officials said 20 people had died, including two children. Another 38 were injured, including three children.
Sixteen of the 20 victims died in the strike on the apartment building. The other four died at a recreation center, Ukrainian emergency officials said.
The air strikes followed the pullout of Russian forces from Snake Island on June 30, a move that was expected to potentially ease the threat to nearby Odesa. The island sits along a busy shipping lane.
The Kremlin portrayed the pullout from Snake Island as a “goodwill gesture.” Ukraine’s military claimed a barrage of its artillery and missiles forced the Russians to flee in two small speedboats. The exact number of withdrawing troops was not disclosed.
Control of Snake Island, located about 40 kilometers from Ukraine’s coast near the Danube Delta, had enabled Russia to threaten the sea lanes leading to and from Odesa, Ukraine’s main port for shipping grain to the world.
The Odesa-area attacks come in the 19th week since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the large-scale invasion, with Russian forces otherwise focused on what Ukrainians call an "enormous" bombardment of the last major city holding out in the east, Lysychansk, and the shelling of civilian settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
It also follows an attack earlier this week on a crowded shopping mall in Kremenchuk, in central Ukraine, leaving at least 18 people dead and dozens more missing. Ukrainian officials have described the mall attack as a "terrorist" act, while Moscow has denied responsibility.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on July 30 that Ukrainian troops had expelled Russian forces and recaptured Snake Island in a development that he said significantly limits Russia's actions.
Control of Snake Island, located about 40 kilometers from Ukraine’s coast near the Danube Delta, had enabled Russia to threaten the sea lanes leading to and from Odesa, Ukraine’s main port for shipping grain to the world.
The head of the military administration of the Luhansk region to the east, Serhiy Hayday, said Lysychansk "is constantly being shelled with large [gun] calibers" by the Russian forces attempting to encircle the strategic hilltop city -- a key battleground in Moscow's attempt to conquer Ukraine's industrial heartland of Donbas.

Terravenger Season 6 - The Agents of Light Arc - Episode 513 (Do Not Copy) - 02.10.2024
During the middle of the day, four individuals wrapped in hoods had each appeared in separate corners of the great Midas City. One of them appeared near the Griffith Elementary School at the northwest side. Another remained on the top of the Sky Dye Mall which was at the southwest area. The third one stood at the grassy area in the northeast area. And the fourth one was by the mountains in the southeast area.
At the top of a large mountain of the grassy area was the fifth member of the group along with the vengeful god Ares.
The four warriors called "Ophiskuaneos Formation!"
Each of the warriors blew out a long wave of blue energy that resembled a snake. The four snakes slowly formed into a large light surrounded the entire city. And the god Ares roared loudly with laughter.
Inside a classroom at the Midas Academy, the young gargoyle named Silver Monroe hurried to a desk at the end of the row near the door as the younger student named Colby Fox remained at a desk on the other side.
Meanwhile, the older student Pacey Deacon spotted the wicked blue light covering the sky as he stood by a large window inside the Fitness Gym. And his friend Luna stood by his left side.
At the front entrance of the Sky Dye Mall was the beautician Paige McCormack who looked up at the blue light covering the sky.
Inside another classroom at the Midas Academy, every student along with a female teacher stood by the windows. And they all stared at the bright light in the sky.
Among the students was the young genius named Dilan Carr. He wore a green shirt with short white sleeves, long blue jeans, and brown shoes.
Another student hurried to Dilan and cried in a male voice "I don't have to be a genius to know that isn't good!"
This was an older boy with great skin, brown eyes, and short gray hair. And a large scar remained on his left cheek. He had on a long-sleeved black sweater, tight blue jeans, and gray shoes.
Dilan replied "In that we agree. But I wish that you were wrong, Rhys. This had to come during the week of the examinations."
A female student named Ash Iliakos stood in front of the pair as she cried "I can't believe this! This must be a bad omen!"
Ash had her long blond hair that is tied into a low pony-tail. And she wore a pair of eyeglasses that had clear lenses. She wore a sleeveless gray shirt with a black collar around her neck. She had a long gray sleeve around her left arm that was separated from her shirt. And her MAF badge was placed on the front left side of her chest. She also had on a pair of tight white pants that lowered to her knees. And she wore a pair of short black boots.
Other students stood behind the trio with a younger Raj among them. He wore a thin sand-colored sweater along with a pair of baggy pale-green pants that had a thin black belt around his waist. And he had on his black shoes with yellow-green at the top center.
He asked in a soft voice "What the hell is going on?"
And Dilan answered "I have no answer for this. But this is the last thing that I expected to happen."
Terravenger -- Season 6
Episode 513:  Hi-Tech Young Monk
A year later, two students had fought each other as other students and staff members remained on the bleachers at both sides of the Training Room at the Midas Academy during one morning.
One of the fighters was the popular student, Pacey Deacon. He wore a sleeveless light-blue shirt with darker armor over it. He had thin white pads covering his shoulders. Along with that, he wore tight blue pants with dark-blue at the bottom and a thick blue belt with his MAF badge worn as a buckle. He also had black kneepads and a large yellow bolt of lightning on each pad around the ankle. And he had on a pair of white combat boots.
The other was Oren Garcia who had tan skin, brown eyes, and a well-built body And the front part of his shirt black hair was spiked up. He had on a sleeveless black shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and a tribal belt around his waist with a golden rectangular buckle at the front center. He also had a black gauntlet around each wrist, black gloves, and brown tribal boots. And he wore a necklace with a small golden arrowhead tied at the center.
The pair continued exchanging punches as Raj sat at the back part of the bleachers which remained at the left side of the room. He wore a white shirt with long golden sleeves. And on the top right side of the shirt's front were a pair of golden diamonds. He also had a pair of baggy khaki pants with a thin black belt around the waist. And he had on a pair of black shoes with yellow-green at the top center.
Raj had watched the movements of each fighter as he thought to himself "Both of them! They really can fight! I wish I was like that!"
During that evening, Raj began training at the center of the Training Room. He threw different types of punches of kicks after performing either forward rolls, tumbles, backward rolls, and cartwheels. Meanwhile, he wore a sleeveless black shirt instead of his long-sleeved shirt.
Pacey Deacon stood behind him with his arms folded before him. But instead of his sleeveless top, he wore a long-sleeved gray shirt.
After he rolled back, Raj started throwing out a barrage of punches and kicks along with his teacher.
Pacey gave an approved smile while watching Raj performing his best.
During the second part of the next year, the army of the Midas soldiers that were led by Greg Griffin had battled a large swarm of mindless cyborgs at the front of the Fitness Gym. The other heroes -- Beau Ravenstone, Mercury Fakinos, and Laura Griffin -- had surrounded the muscular Two of Nine as they all stood at the right side of the small building called Syd's.
By the cliff at the Forest Area above the Midas Academy were Seven of Nine and Alexis Sanyo who battled more of the cybernetic drones using their own abilities. Seven of Nine had fired small balls of light-green energy from the pistols attached to his wrists while Alexis used Hypnosis to put many of the drones around her to sleep.
At the center of the Grasslands near Cade Street, the headstrong soldier named McKennah Roberts fired a barrage of small rings made of golden energy from her right point-finger at the observant Four of Nine who block the projectiles using her opened umbrella. Three of Nine soon flew toward their attacker as McKennah blew a long spiraling wave of yellow energy from her left point-finger.
While the pair of young cyborgs continued fighting McKennah, the student Raj crawled toward a large pile of the cybernetic drone's lifeless bodies. This time he wore a sleeveless black shirt, baggy khaki pants with a thin black belt, and his black shoes that had yellow-green at the top center. He also had his MAF badge on the front left side of his shirt. And he wore his blue visor covering his eyes.
Raj began analyzing parts of their bodies with eccentric tendencies until four more of the cybernetic drones marched toward him. The scared boy slowly rose as each of the drones aimed the pistol from their right wrist at him. Someone else jumped down before Raj and blew a barrage of medium fireballs from their mouth to burn the heads of the emotionless drones.
Then the person faced the relieved Raj. This was a young woman with brown eyes, pale-brown skin, and a fit body. She had long dark-brown hair tied in a bun which remained behind her head. And a black band had covered the bottom of each ear. She had black eyeliner, brown eye-shadow, and pink lipstick. She wore a black shirt with dark-brown covering the waist and a pair of short black sleeves. She also had on dark-brown leggings, black warmers covering her knees, long black gloves, and long black boots. And her MAF badge was placed on the center of her shirt. Around her neck was a golden medallion that had five red gems at the center.
She told Raj "You must focus more on either disarming or ending your opponent instead of collecting their mechanical belongings."
The excited boy lowered to his right knee and took another look at the right wrist of a fallen drone.
"But these devices are cool," implied Raj. "I can probably make weapons out of these things."
The woman nodded her head and replied "Your fascination for technology and other forms of science has always disappointed our father. You are his only son. You should do what you must in order to continue our traditions."
Raj told the woman "I wish you all would realize that I don't want anything to do with our family's traditions. I wish to live my own way. Be my own man!"
He lowered his head and added "I am not our dada, Trinity. Hetchima Zhing will always be the greatest shaman of all time. He was also the hero of our village due to competing in many fighting tournaments. But all of that is not for me."
The woman nodded her head again and responded "You should no longer call me by that name. My real name is Tritva. You should start using our native language from this moment on."
Raj continued analyzing the body parts of the drone as he told the woman "I would rather be an inventor. You should see all the things I have built. My creations have helped many at the Academy so far."
The woman lowered her head and said "Rajiv. I wish you would realize your true worth."

Sen. Dallas Harris is a martial arts master who co-founded Nevada’s LGBTQ+ caucus
Nevada State Sen. Dallas Harris (D), 38, represents District 11 in Clark County and parts of Las Vegas. She serves as chief majority whip in the Nevada State Senate and is one of only four out LGBTQ+ lawmakers in the legislature. She was appointed to the seat in 2018 and won a four-year term in 2020. She’s running for reelection in 2024. Harris is a Las Vegas native and earned her JD at George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. in 2005. As an attorney with Nevada’s Public Utilities Commission for several years, Harris gained experience under the hood with state government. As well, she’s a pro-bono attorney with the Adult Guardianship Project at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.  Your LGBTQ+ guide to Election 2024 Stay ahead of the 2024 Election with our daily newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Harris spoke with me from her district office in Las Vegas, in a mall southwest of the Strip. She was dressed casually in a grey crew neck sweater, where long dreads — new for Harris after years of short hair — rested around her shoulders. LGBTQ Nation: Last May, you and another lawmaker founded the Nevada Legislature LGBTQ+ Caucus. What are three bills that you want to either see get passed or make sure they never see the light of day? Dallas Harris: Yes. Okay, let’s start with “never see the light of day” because I think there are too many to count across the country right now in that category. So in Douglas County, that’s a county here in Nevada that’s a bit more conservative than, let’s say, some of our more populous counties, we’ve seen some attempts to limit the sports that children can play, as little as elementary school. Those are things that I want to make sure we do not see here in Nevada on a statewide level. Let’s just be like the anti-Florida. That would be great. As far as things that I want to see get done, one thing we did last year that was awesome — but the governor, for some reason, vetoed it — was we had a bill that would take away the gun rights of folks who had committed violent hate crimes. So, you were already convicted of a violent crime, demonstrating some bias against someone, and we’re saying, we’re going to take your guns away. We’d have a cooling off period. And the governor vetoed it, so we’re gonna bring that back. That’s Republican governor Joe Lombardo. What was his reasoning? We can speculate. Politics, virtue signaling to his base. I think that he cares more about that than us. What is a biennium, and had you ever heard that word before you joined the Nevada legislature? (laughing) It is the two-year period of the Nevada legislative session, and no, why would anybody use that term? One of your legislative priorities is education, and you’ve been instrumental in increasing funding for K-12 students in Nevada. Who has been the more formidable opponent, Republican lawmakers or parents’ rights groups? Ooooh. Republican lawmakers, for sure. They’re the gatekeepers, right? They are the ones that have the right to vote up or down, any way they want, regardless of what I or a parents’ rights group pushes them to do. They’re the ultimate hurdle. At the end of the day, the buck stops with them for sure. Do you think groups like Moms for Liberty or Libs of TikTok have had any influence on them? I think they’ve done immeasurable amounts of damage to children across the country who are just discovering themselves and are now growing up in environments that could have been welcoming and open but instead are now very much closed and dark and look just like that metaphorical closet that we talked about coming out of. You’ve talked about… http://dlvr.it/T3GKNl
