THE “NARCOMFIN” BUILDING

At the beginning of the Soviet Union the problem of a new tipe of housing appeared in front of architects. The people of Comunism were supposed to free from a lot of aspects of known mode of life. The answer was found in the COMUNNAs buildings tipe. One of the most striking examples is the NARCOMFIN building.

Projected and built in 1928-30 years by famos soviet architect Moises Ginsburg, it was supposed to become the comfort modern housing for soviet people.

The Comunna tipe of houses is structured around the idea of collectivism so many things those amount human lives were rethinked. Because of that the NARCOMFIN building contains a lot of detailes that can exist only in these tipes of house.

The first thing is plans

The flats are pretty small. That’s because of the idea that personal space must be minimalised and the flat itself is in fact a place for rest and sleep only.

The second thing is, as you might have noticed stairs inside flats. That’s because of the unic configuration of the vertical displaysment of the blocks-flats

One corridor has entrances in two different stories, so the flats go ower it rounding corridor above and bellow.

The interiors are complicated by there’s structure because of the multileveled flats.

The influence of Bauhaus touched this building in many ways. One of them is colors - the skin of a architectural body. M. Ginsburg gesigned flats covered with warm pastel colors which were supposed to calm and warm inhabitants of this house

Since the constitution of the building there were no repair works on it at all. So by the early 2000-s it was in awful condition

But in the 2019 the reconstruction works were finally ended and now the monument of costructivism is shining again

There is a lot to say about this house. I’ve could speak describing it for hours, but the fact that you already know something about the NARCOMFIN building is very dear to me.
