I've often seen artists use pencil linearts and wanted to try it out. And I have to say I like it, they make the images look much more vivid than the sharp ink outlines.
I also made a second version that is more like the comics even though I kept my anime-like artstyle. Honestly somehow I don't like it that much but I don't want the time I put into it to be for nothing, so it's posted anyway. Maybe someone will like it.
I would be very interested in which one you like more.
fanart of my favorite space lizard :D I'm actually really proud of how it turned out, it gets tricky to draw on paper after being on tablet for a while, I was scared things would look too off and that I wouldn't bring justice to the space emperor but... I think it turned out fine! OK it has little flaws but I FINALLY sketched him PROPERLY.
yes hello, i suddenly had to look up crocodile musculature and figure out what the “pectoral” shape for a lizard-shaped humanoid might look like.
elements of this basic design hail from the fanon largely attributed to @tinsnip and her work on Speculative Xenobiology as it relates to Cardassians.
So we see the Chufa, Chula, and Chuva (pardon my half-assed transliteration), as well as a hint of the ajan. (which in this instance is also connected to the base of the tail, between the legs).
I wanted to strike a balance between ds9 visual canon (with its sad limitations of human actors) while playing with some of the elements of fanon (including tails, of course), while also catering to my own, unadventerous, aesthetic preferences (crocodiles have no lips and no butts to speak of, and that makes me sad—call it cowardice if you must, I must submit to the sad limits of my imaginative capabilities).
I was really fascinated by the strong muscles along the spine of crocodiles, and wanted to showcase that for a starting point. my next project is to try and take on the scaling patterns and textural questions.
i’m quite out of practice, but i hope this amuses and/or inspires some folks as they think abt non-human humanoid anatomy.
obv the above example is more along the garak model than the dukat model but i’m garashir trash so ….
I have been thinking about gul dukats skull all day and I need a moment alone with the cardassian lovers to discuss why the spoon would have a Hole. Its like the soft spot of a babys skull… what are the anatomical implications here…
quick roundup of ds9 lizards, and a quick anim
im currently away from my usual tools so this is also a krita animation test as ive never used it for this purpose,,,,
(sorry for not adding quark snatching the bottle, if i were to add more frames or camera movement grandmas computer wouldve gone critical and melt into an elephant foot)
also made me think that it would be cool to see a star trek reanimated scene collab or something ,,,,
+more stuff, i really havent been drawing much, im looking for bugs in tall grass most of the time now
