Exploring the Cosmos: The Evolution of Space Capsule Technology
Tumblr media
In the vast expanse of the cosmos, humanity's curiosity knows no bounds. From the earliest dreams of reaching the stars to the technological marvels of today, space exploration has always been at the forefront of human achievement. At the heart of this endeavor lies the space capsule, a remarkable vessel designed to transport astronauts through the void of space and back again safely.
Evolution of Space Capsules:
The Birth of Space Capsules: In the early days of space exploration, the concept of the space capsule as the ideal solution for transporting astronauts into space. These early capsules, such as the Mercury spacecraft, were small, compact vessels designed to withstand the rigors of launch and reentry into Earth's atmosphere. The Space Capsule was a revolutionary leap forward in space exploration technology, paving the way for future missions beyond Earth's orbit.
Advancements in Design: Over the years, space agencies around the world have continually refined and improved upon the design of space capsules. The Apollo program saw the development of larger capsules capable of carrying multiple astronauts to the Moon and back. Similarly, the Space Shuttle program introduced reusable spacecraft that combined aspects of both capsules and traditional rockets, further pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

ISRO Launches Fuel Cell For Testing Future Power Sources on Upcoming Bhartiya Space Station
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched the Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS) aimed at testing the power source for the future Indian Space Station. This experimental initiative was part of the PSLV-C58 mission, which also transported the XPoSat observatory into space.
Following the successful launch of the XPoSat mission, ISRO’s chief S Somnath unveiled the progress. The Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), an integral division of ISRO, has crafted this fuel cell, introducing innovative technology aimed at establishing a sustainable and efficient power supply for space exploration.
The Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS) was sent into space via the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM), which is the fourth stage of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. Originally positioned in a 650 km orbit alongside the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSAT) mission, the POEM fourth stage underwent a sequence of controlled maneuvers, reducing its orbit to 350 km.
This planned orbit reduction played an important role in ensuring the necessary stability for conducting onboard experiments, including those involving the FCPS.
Revolutionizing Long-Duration Space Missions
Tumblr media
Anticipated as a game-changer for extended space missions, this advanced fuel cell technology stands apart from conventional power systems. It utilizes the advantage of converting chemical energy from fuels into electricity through electrochemical reactions to ensure a substantially longer supply of electrical energy.

A little while ago, SpaceX's Dragon 2 spacecraft docked with the International Space Station's Harmony module completing the first part of its CRS-29 mission. Astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara monitored the operation but the cargo spacecraft, which blasted off when it was Thursday night in the USA, completed the maneuvers automatically without any problem.

You might not think there’s much to smell in space — but, according to the odor lab’s manager, Susana Tapia-Harper, space missions are known for getting pretty ripe.
“Especially space vehicles that have been in use for a long period of time, and that don’t get a lot of fresh air over that time, there have been reports that those kind of smell like locker rooms.”
If you can imagine in space, you can’t open a window if there’s a stinky situation in the bathroom and it’s close quarters, so there’s not much fresh air to air things out.
The source of some smells — like kitchen trash — can at least be tied up in a bag. But that’s not the case for all.
There are those smells, like sweat and farts, that aren’t able to be contained and those do start to accumulate over time.

Aditya L1 Mission -

The DART mission (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) just successfully slammed into Dimorphos, which is the moonlet of the asteroid Didymos (also affectionately called Didymoon). Over the next few days astronomers around the world will observe Didymos and Dimorphos to see if there has been a change in orbit from the latter. This is humanity's first real attempt at altering the course of a "killer" asteroid, even if this one isn't hazardous to us.

Moon Mountain Named After Melba Roy Mouton, NASA Mathematician
Tumblr media
Award-winning NASA mathematician and computer programmer Melba Mouton is being honored with the naming of a mountain at the Moon’s South Pole. Mouton joined NASA in 1959, just a year after the space agency was established. She was the leader of a team that coded computer programs to calculate spacecraft trajectories and locations. Her contributions were instrumental to landing the first humans on the Moon.
She also led the group of "human computers," who tracked the Echo satellites. Roy and her team's computations helped produce the orbital element timetables by which millions could view the satellite from Earth as it passed overhead.
The towering lunar landmark now known as “Mons Mouton” stands at a height greater than 19,000 feet. The mountain was created over billions of years by lunar impacts. Huge craters lie around its base—some with cliff-like edges that descend into areas of permanent darkness. Mons Mouton is the future landing site of VIPER, our first robotic Moon rover. The rover will explore the Moon’s surface to help gain a better understanding of the origin of lunar water. Here are things to know:
Mons Mouton is a wide, relatively flat-topped mountain that stretches roughly 2,700 square miles
Tumblr media
The mountain is the highest spot at the Moon’s South Pole and can be seen from Earth with a telescope
Tumblr media
Our VIPER Moon rover will explore Mons Mouton over the course of its 100-day mission
Tumblr media
VIPER will map potential resources which will help inform future landing sites under our Artemis program
Tumblr media
The VIPER mission is managed by our Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. The approximately 1,000-pound rover will be delivered to the Moon by a commercial vendor as part of our Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative, delivering science and technology payloads to and near the Moon.

I feel like nobody on Tumblr knows that the international space station is being discontinued.
Did you know that? In less than a decade it will be gone

I think sonic had a really good time not being playable for once and just being supporting cast for his friend shadow. i just know he was soooo excited to explain the controls and not worry about rings and cheer on his friend (and sometimes be a final boss :3)
