In my quest to find more movies with sailing ships and piracy in outer space to scratch the itch after Stardust and Treasure Planet, I stumbled on this animated movie called Space Pirate Captain Harlock and the visual is just?? impeccable? His ship is this huge warship called the Arcadia and its battering helm is shaped like a skull, the story follows a double-agent getting on board, and there’s a very gritty steampunk-type futuristic aesthetic. I’m enamored
(Plus it’s on YouTube in 1080p for free)
“There comes a time for a man when he must act, despite the dangers, knowing he may die…”
Hey, Hey anyone interested in a leiji-verse discord server? I’m thinking of setting one up (if there isn’t one already! haven’t seen it tho so I’m assuming) and I’m trying to think of some names.
So far I got:
a- The Leiji Lobby
b- Sea of Stars
c- The Arcadia
….and that’s it lemao. Pls, if you have an idea do share. I’ll reblog and update this post as I go.
Yknow, I don’t think that we, as the tiny shreds of the Captain Harlock/Capitaine Albator fandom that we are, acknowledge the fact our fav Captain is uh, missing an eye. He’s always so cool and confident and has amazing aim, for a man who has no depth perception.
Like. Give me recently-one-eyed Harlock still adapting, drifting right because the center of his field of view is off. Bumping into tables. Unable to pour bourbon (tragedy) and instead having to find ways to make sure it ends up in the glass and not all over the table.
Or Harlock years later, still subtly double checking distances and measurements through the Arcadia’s main computer, still practicing his aim, or developing a way to glance side to side to make sure he’s seen everything around him.
And like, yeah he wears an eyepatch but imagine- glass eye shenanigans.
anyway, I’ll need to do more research on the subject but this is something I’d like to write about. Maybe just like, a oneshot or something. Any thoughts almost non-existent Harlock/Albator fanbase?
