2020 End of Year Friendship Post

Alright, you guys know that I love to make gushing posts about people I’ve grown fond of.

Well, I’ve decided to make a big one for the end of the year. Celebrate the friendships I’ve created and/or maintained in the last year. This is obviously not EVERYBODY as I have shit memory and some of my friends have left the site (T_T) but this list will be a bit long, so I’m gonna post everything under a cut so that it doesn’t bother people having to scroll past it. (: to the people not mentioned in this but that follow me: thank you so much for supporting me & my writing adventure. I know that my blog has been through ups and downs, has changed immensely in the course of the past year, but I hope that you guys still enjoy and do not regret following it.

If you do, feel free to unfollow. I understand that some of you probably followed me for my games or events, which I no longer post here. 1. @lordkingsmith - I’ve already beaten this dead horse, but you are SO INCREDIBLE and I have no idea what my entire mentality would be if not for you. You’ve saved me from giving up on my dreams multiple times by your positivity and always knowing how to help me!! Any time something happens, you’re right there with a solution and it’s mind boggling. You’re literally the only person that can be like “here, help yourself this way” and I won’t get upset about it because I trust you in a way I trust SO few people. You are my little brother and I am so, so happy Jason Zephyr and a stupid tomato guessing game brought us together ;)

2. @franky-ts - girl... you’ll always be my twinny. Always, always. I can’t imagine life without you in it. Even through me deleting my blogs what, 3-4 times now since we met? I always come back to you. You are always the top 2-3 people I search for when I come back because you are my twinny and if I don’t get to have a tumblr experience without you, I don’t want it! <3 I love everything about you and I’m so glad to know you. I’m so grateful to have friends like you that always reach out to me and try to cheer me up when I’m feeling down. I always want to share my ups and downs with you. If not for the damned timezone difference, I probably would. Love you, sis.

3. @catharticallysarcastic - probably my favorite person I rarely speak to ;) A friendship started with writer games and the beauty of her name (Szandra for those that don’t know)... you are a remarkable and beautiful person and you deserve the world and all of your dreams with it. I wish this world was perfect so you could live in a perfect world because you, my friend, are great. And sweet. And amazing! Thank you for being a good friend to me.

4. @raevenlywrites - I know we don’t talk much anymore. I don’t really bombard you with asks like I used to, but I do still cherish you, not only as a writer, but as a person. You have a beautiful heart and are such a caring individual. You will go out of your way for other people and this world needs MORE PEOPLE like that! You are incredible and I hope you reach the absolute apex of what you think life should be. That is my 2020 wish for you. <3

Jeez, it’s been so long I can’t even remember how we met. But I’m so, so glad we did. You are beautiful. You are so caring and kind. Your writing is amazing and your characters are just... *chef kiss* But this isn’t about your writing, as amazing as it is. This is about you. This is about how amazing YOU, as a person, are. This is about how much I love and appreciate you as a person. This is about how much I am grateful to have friends like you in my life. This about how you’ve been here for me through so much and how I can’t imagine if I’d never met you. Even though we rarely talk like we used to, I still cherish you like we talk every freaking day. Life gets busy, especially as adults. Shit happens, life gets hard. But through everything, just know I love you and am always, no matter what, here for you. <3

6. @wyldlynxx - Lynxxieeee ~ my little Nane fangirl xDDDD you are amazing. You don’t give yourself near enough credit for how awesome you are. You make me laugh and so happy to be alive. We don’t chat like we used to, which... to be fair there are very few that I do still talk to regularly. But I still love you and our friendship. I wouldn’t trade it - for you - for anything. (: I hope one day we can catch up again and start chatting more again because our chats always, always put a smile on my face.

7. @mrs-raven-writes - Ravage! My savage little Ravage!! My buddy! Hey! Hi! You are awesome. Our conversations are so unique every time. We don’t just have the typical ‘hi how are you’ talks. I mean yes, sometimes we do if it’s been a while since we chatted, but for the most part, we’ve had all different kinds of talks. My favorite is when you randomly approached me saying you almost threw down with someone because of a game. xD And finding out that even through your absence you still keep track of me? T_T I was so flattered and still am. You are amazing and you also do not give yourself near enough credit for how amazing you are. I am so glad to know you and I hope that 2021 treats you better than 2020 did because I’d love more than anything for you to message me telling me how incredible you feel and how much life has improved. I’m not even sure how to say what I want to say. xD A friendship forged by mutual love of King Arthur fiction... turned into what it is now. Even though we rarely ever talk anymore, I still feel so close to you... and I hope that you know that you’re still a very special friend to me. ^_^ you are so sweet and so ENTHUSIASTIC! You spread so much love to others and it just makes me smile! It makes me so happy to see you on my dash, not just for the fics, but for YOU. I always know if I message you, we’re about to have a fun, exciting conversation. I never get bored of our chats or of you because you’re just so FUN and put such a big smile on my face!!! I love the friendship we’ve built and I really, honestly hope it never ends because you’re amazing. <3

10. @keen2meecha - hey, buddy! We haven’t really chatted in a while but I wanted to include you because we used to chat a lot more. And it was so fun getting to know you and sharing my passions with you. I really hope that we get into touch more in 2021 because I never want to lose that bond we shared back when we chatted more! You are someone I think of frequently, even if we don’t chat as much as we used to, and I’m so glad to have met you. I’m so glad I got the courage to reach out to you and talk to you because you are one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met on this site. You always have nothing but sweet things to say and I just.... I look up to you so much. Your kindness, your positivity, your love. You, all-in-all, are a role model I wish I’d grown up watching. You always bring a smile to my face and leave me feeling so freaking special. There are very few that can make me laugh, cry, flattered and just so happy in one single conversation. You bring so much joy and love in my life and I just can’t imagine ever losing your friendship. 18. @fatal-blow - I know we’re not like SUPER close or anything. But I wanted to let you know that you are amazing. Not just because your talent is beyond anything I have the words to voice but... you are such a fun, passionate person to speak with and it’s fun watching you talk about things you love, especially your characters. The way that you make your characters feel so familiar when you talk about them, like you’re talking about an old friend. It’s simply inspiring. I’m so glad I found your blog and started commenting on your posts because the conversations that have ensued due to it have been so memorable. I’ll never forget you, even long after I stop being on tumblr, whenever that happens. Thank you for everything.

19. @just-a-little-bit-of-sugar - girrrrl. You’re someone that I really miss. You are so sweet, just like your name implies, and such an uplifting person to talk about. You’re so positive, and you know. I do really cherish that about you but that isn’t what makes you so special to me. Started with my writing of Death Has a Face and other dark stories centered around death and your series I’m reading with DEFINITE darkness in it.... but it evolved into this beautiful thing it is now, that I wouldn’t trade for the world. You are a remarkable friend, always having nothing but nice words for me and I so appreciate how you lift me up during hard times. You’re always here for me and willing to help bring me out of my own personal darkness. And I love and appreciate that so much about you. 21. @leafgreen6 - Ariiiii!!!!!!! One of my earlier friends! I met you through Galaxy and our friendship kind of blossomed. The three of us together create quite a dynamic trio even if we don’t chat together like we used to. You are amazing. I hope you realize how incredible you are. Name Ten Films That Have, For Whatever Reason, Stuck With You

@millennialfangirl tagged me, and this was harder than I thought and I might have gone over the ten. Also, tumblr is being tumblr and not cooperating with gifs, so only the first film has one. Here they are, in chronological order:

Casablanca, 1942

Look, Casablanca is the best film ever made. Is it my favorite? No, but it’s the best, much better than Citizen Kane, which is often heralded as the pinnacle of cinema but is about a rich old white guy who loves his sled.

Here’s looking at you, kid. Of all the Gin joints. Round up the usual suspects! I’m shocked - shocked!- to find that gambling is going on in here (Your winnings, sir.). This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. As Time Goes By. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman and a supporting cast to die for. Renault throwing away the bottle of Vichy water.

I could go on, but here’s why Casablanca has stuck with me: It’s one of my Dad’s favorite movies, too. When I think of Casablanca, I think of him. One Christmas (I can’t remember if I was in high school or college), the old timey theater in town played Casablanca. I got us tickets as his Christmas present. It is one of my favorite movie-going experiences (more on that below).

Star Wars, 1977

When I was little, we used to go to my maternal grandparents’ house every Tuesday, and I would watch Star Wars. I was probably waaaaay too young - there’s audio of me playing out Star Wars with my My Little Ponies and I was like, three. On my college essay, I wrote about how Return of the Jedi was my first movie (true story, I was six months old and slept through the whole thing, because apparently taking your sleeping infant to the movies is something parents did in the ‘80s).

Star Wars is where I learned about the Hero’s Journey. About princesses and rebellions and wizards and flying spaceships. I devoured the Timothy Zahn books and Young Jedi Knights series. And yes, I’m a little down on it all after Episode IX - but I still love it. It has impacted me in so many ways. I know my life would be the poorer for not having seen it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1981

If Princess Leia was the first damsel I saw who get herself out of distress, Marian Ravenwood was the one who solidified the idea that women were perfectly capable of getting into and out of trouble themselves, thank you very much. Then there’s Harrison Ford in being Peak Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones - Intelligent, clever, brave-bordering-on-reckless. Who wouldn’t want to go on far-flung adventures to find hidden treasure, and maybe punch some Nazis while you’re at it?

The Goonies, 1985

Speaking of far-flung adventures, how about going on one in your hometown? Booby-traps, pirates, Italian gangsters, Sloth, hidden treasure - it’s every kid’s playtime fantasy come magically to life. I still want to go down those tunnel slides and shoot out into a hidden lagoon. They just don’t make movies like this any more - fun, family movies that don’t dumb down the action or characterization for kids, that’s a ride for both kids and parents alike. This was the first movie I showed my kids during quarantine.

This is a perfect movie. It is. It is lightning in a bottle and it should never, ever be remade (those were just rumors, right?). This is romance and humor and suspense and two of the best swordfights in cinematic history (fight me on this. No, really, fight me. I took fencing in college because of this movie), all wrapped up in the sweetest Happily Ever After. I love it so much.

Jurassic Park, 1993

I’ve told this story before, but here it is again. In the summer of 1993, I was 10 and my sisters were 8 and just turned 6, and we convinced our parents that we were for sure old enough to see Jurassic Park - a book my mother had read and thus knew what level of horror to expect. It did not go well. I ended up burying my head in my dad’s chest; my youngest sister was in my mom’s lap; and my middle sister, with no where left to go, ended up under the seat in front of her.

Now, it’s the movie we quote (Hold on to your butts). When my youngest had jello recently, I told him to hold it up and look scared, then texted the picture around. We all knew immediately what I meant. The DVDs are given as gifts and then immediately stolen. My youngest sister can recite the entire movie. I can’t wait to scare my sons with it.

The Shawshank Redemption, 1994

I don’t remember this movie when it came out; I remember it was this movie I hadn’t really heard of at the Oscars, where it won none. Not until I was much older did I realize what a travesty that was. I first watched this on a pep band bus trip in college - not the time or place to truly appreciate it. Months later, I rented it (remember renting movies?) and fell in love with it.

This is a beautiful movie about friendship and hope and finding light in the darkness. It’s always on TV, and I will always stop and watch at least a few minutes of it. The ending - the last half hour, really - is pure cinematic poetry, but noting beats Red’s monologue as he travels to find Andy on that Mexican beach.

That Thing You Do!, 1996

This movie is Capital-D-Delightful. Just thinking about it makes me smile. This is the movie that tipped me from Tom Hanks Fan to I Love Tom Hanks and Need Him to Be My Best Friend. He WROTE and DIRECTED this gem of a movie. The talent. The song is legitimately catchy, the characters are Wonder-ful (see what I did there?), and it’s all in Day-Glo ‘60s color. I love this movie and make no apologies.

Toy Story 2, 1999

Speaking of Tom Hanks, this is my favorite Toy Story. Look, the first is a technological marvel, but Woody is an ass throughout most of the film. The fourth is it’s own thing, and the third is really, really good and I ugly sob at the end, but it’s also got a lot going on there. But the second - oh the second is beautiful in its simplicity. In addition to all of Andy’s toys, we get Jesse and Bullseye and even Stinky Pete. It’s an ode to friendship and love and the realization that life, for toys and people, eventually ends, and we have to appreciate every moment we have now. It is my favorite Toy Story.

Finding Nemo, 2003

I don’t know if it’s my favorite Pixar film, though. It depends on the day, but most of the time that distinction goes to Finding Nemo. I first saw it when I was twenty, a decade before my first kid was born, but it has greatly influenced how I parent. The conversation between Dory and Marlin in the whale, the idea that keeping anything from happening to your kid cuts both ways, the leap of faith, the mantra of “just keep swimming,” the notion that your kids don’t just want, but need to have independence - it’s all there, in Pixar’s stunning ocean animation. I get choked up just thinking about it. “Now go have an adventure!”

Honorable Mentions:

Forrest Gump, 1994

I loved this movie. I love Tom Hanks in this movie. I would watch it in snippets during college, while I ate dinner or lunch or just needed a quick study break. But it’s been years since I last saw it, and I wonder if it still holds up. It’s a Boomer movie made when the Boomers were - basically, just a little older than we old Millennials are now. It’s American history in the last half of the twentieth century, but the big events - Vietnam, Civil Rights, even AIDS - are filtered through the lens of a straight white man who kinda wanders into history but doesn’t really get why the moments are historic. I feel like it’s a film I appreciated at a certain time, but wouldn’t love as much now.

Avengers: Endgame, 2019

There just hasn’t been enough time for this movie to make the list. Ask about it again in ten years. Although, to be honest, I haven’t seen the whole thing since I saw it in theaters, and I fear it won’t live up. It was the best movie-going experience I’ve ever had. The crowd was so into it, and the last battle had everyone, me included, screaming at the screen. Part of what makes Endgame so special to me is that, among the three big franchises that ended last year (Avengers, Star Wars, Game of Thrones), this one actually stuck the landing. And yes, I could argue that Steve Rogers’ end doesn’t actual make any sense and deprives Peggy Carter of her agency - but in the emotional moment of the film, it worked. That portal scene is the culmination of twenty-plus films, and I still can’t believe it works as well as it does.

And I feel like I need to write this again, not only because I keep this as part of the memories but also because I regard it as a chance to show my gratefulness to every single one of you who has become my friends or just simply support me, unconditionally. Sunset, because if I’m up at sunrise it’s for a reason, while sunset is a beautiful cap for what may have been a long day. It’s one of the things I miss most now that I live in the mountains.

I default to casual way too easily, and it’s one of my unofficial goals when I go home next year to dress up my fashion game.

To carve out a life in my hometown where I’m financially secure, intellectually curious, and giving to the community.

I’m passionate about communicating what I’m feeling, however weird that may be. That’s why I like asks, Twitter, journals, and writing letters. That’s also why I feel so awkward talking sometimes and overall just don’t speak that much, because I want to make sure I mean what I say and that everything I mean comes across in what I’m saying.

I like that they are different from me. I admire their ability to go out into the world, confident that they deserve the space they occupy. Shoulders are neat.

Chocolate oranges. The holiday season has really brought that home for me. They’re rich but energizing and a special treat.

Maybe Marie Antoinette, because it captures that longing for something that you can’t have and maybe never existed while being very pretty.

I have a pair of black leggings that are so soft and two sizes too big for me, but that makes them just soooooooo comfy.

My favorite thing in my room in Japan is my jars and boxes of mementos I plan on bringing home with me. My favorite thing in my room at home is my shelves of books.

random 1. thoughts on love?

I think love has to be mutual if it’s with another person. You can be devoted to someone, enchanted with them, enamored of them, loyal and trusting and affectionate unto the end, but if it’s not mutual it can’t be love. I think that’s also what makes it so special.

random 5. how many times have you moved?

I’ve moved once, to Japan two and a half years ago, and even then I wonder if it counts because I plan on going straight back home.

Pentagon’s reaction: Their crush on We Got Married (1/2)

Hello anon!! I’m sorry for the long wait in getting to your request, especially when I have been busy with my own personal matters and commitments since my examinations started, but I have finally started a request on this blog and I have to say that your request was a pretty fun one to think about, especially when we know how these 10 boys are. :’) Unfortunately, I will be splitting them into 2 parts; Hyung Line and Maknae Line, because the explanation and reaction is a little long if I put it all in one post. And besides, I decided to extend on your request a little and explained about their initial reaction as well as what they would do for their crush throughout the course of the show as well. :) Thank you for requesting anyway and I hope you like it! If you have more ideas, don’t be afraid to flood my inbox with them! ^^

Jinho:

This little bean would be one of the more calmer ones when he sees his crush walk in, simply because he would not want her to feel awkward or uncomfortable. Firstly, he would be such a gentleman, introducing himself in the most formal way possible, before standing up to offer his crush his jacket or something similar to simply keep her warm. In a nutshell, he would not want to rush into things too quickly and would prefer to take things slow and steady, getting to know his crush little by little and perhaps getting into more deeper and serious stuff instead of remaining at the superficial level. He might be a shy little bean with his crush around and would not seem to know how to act around his crush, but you can count on him to be one of the sweetest and the kindest, ensuring that you were alright 25/7 and going the extra mile just to see a smile on your face. Be prepared for a whole load of chill, yet cute dates in the studio or even a cafe sipping coffee and talking about all things under the sun. Or perhaps even a serenading session too where he invites you to the studio and plays the piano while singing along to convey his true feelings towards the end of the show.

Hui:

As we all know, he is someone who’s clearly loud and boisterous, and would not hold back his true emotions when he realises that his crush is going to appear on We Got Married. When she walks in, he would break out into a wide smile, getting a little shy, before introducing himself enthusiastically with a smile on his face. With his friendly persona, his crush would definitely feel instantly at ease around him, especially if she is not one of many words, simply because Hui will fill in the gaps for her. Even when filming might get a little tiring at times, Hui will always try his best to be the source of energy for his crush just to see her smile and laugh, because that was probably how he even formed a crush in the first place. Seeing the way he is, he would probably fall for someone with a beautiful smile or laugh, and would give anything just to see it coming from his crush. To me, he’s one to give everything to the one he admires/ loves so his crush could be rest assured that she would be well taken care of. With Hui, it could go both ways, from simple dates at the shared home to adrenaline pumping activities such as skydiving or ziplining, but he would always be with her every step of the way. In my opinion, he is also someone capable of preparing special dates for his crush, or if he knows that she had a tough day, with a simple candlelight dinner and a quick song that he wrote just for her. I could imagine him serenading her under the stars, telling her how beautiful she is on the inside and out. In actual fact, there is a likely chance that Hui would end up dating his crush once the show is over.

Hongseok:

This guy would be a shy little bean, and honestly, he would probably not know how to get around his actions. He would be a little soft spoken at first, giving his crush sometime to adjust, especially if she is the shy and demure type. He would also do so in order to appear gentlemanly and mature, giving her the assurance that he would be someone who is capable of providing her with some form of social security. However, once he does start to get comfortable himself, his crush would be exposed to all of his crazy and hilarious antics, especially when we all know that he is the master of the worst Dad jokes, even with the inside jokes and his “talent” to make a pun with the most unexpected words unimaginable. His crush should definitely look forward to having fun and exciting dates with him since he seems to be quite the adrenaline junkie with his insane level of fitness and love for physical activity; going out into the great outdoors. Being the motherly figure of Pentagon, he would also ensure that his crush is well taken care of, during shoots and even when the cameras are off. He would make sure she was well fed, rested and hydrated, and would even go out of his way to prepare some food for you if he knows that his crush did not have the time to eat a proper meal. He also seems like the type to purchase small, but thoughtful (and useful) gifts, just to see his crush happy, especially since the industry is such a cutthroat one with immense levels of stress and easily induced fatigue. In a nutshell, his crush would not have to worry about anything really, because Hongseok would be by her side, physically and spiritually. It doesn’t matter if she can’t cook or clean because Hongmum’s here to save the day!

Edawn:

Despite Edawn’s seemingly tough image with his charismatic rapping and insane stage presence (you can’t NOT notice him), he would be one of the shyest around his crush. He is already a man of few words in Pentagon off stage and gets flustered when all the attention is on him, so imagine him sitting next to his crush when he first meets her on the show itself? Truth be told, he does look like the types who would follow the mainstream and buy his crush flowers, covering up with the fact that he was going to be her on-screen husband anyway so why not act the part, when in reality, it is his way of showing how much he cares and adores his crush. All his crush can be prepared for is a series of spontaneously planned dates, especially those types which allow one to go with the flow, or even just simply spending time at home with movies, dramas and sitcoms. To many, he does look like the type to prefer to stay in, but he clearly does have one of the highest energy levels in Pentagon so it could really go both ways with him; no doubt about that. Throughout the course of the show, he would probably still remain as a man of few words, and would speak his feelings through the actions done for his crush. He would literally and figuratively be your shoulder to cry on and a listening ear. The industry is a tough one, whether his crush is an idol or an entertainer, and would completely understand what you are going through, while trying to offer solutions at the same time to the best of his ability. If it were to be a serious and emotional topic of conversation, he would be patient and gentle with his crush, but he would also make it a point to bring her out just so that he could see her smile on her face again. He might not look like the romantic, but he would definitely take note of all his crush’s likes and dislikes and would probably bring her out for a late night supper, stargazing on the rooftop of your shared apartment, or even simply bringing you out for some ice cream from the convenience store while strolling by the Hangang River. In a nutshell, dates with Edawn might be calm and quiet, but his feelings would be genuine and so is his intentions for his loved one. Like Hui, he would also be one who might end up dating his crush when the show is over.

Shinwon:

No matter how loud he is in real life with his members, he would actually be reduced to a shy and giggly mess when he finds out that his crush is going to be his on-screen wife on We Got Married. He would try his best to hide his feelings when his crush walks in and take deep breaths, not wanting to come off as overly excited, just in case the feelings might not be mutual. He would try his best to be as gentlemanly as possible such as letting his crush introduce herself proper first or giving her his blazer to cover her legs. Unfortunately, as we all know, Shinwon is quite a klutz at times and tries to appear suave but fails eventually, but I’m pretty sure his crush won’t mind and even if he was embarrassed, they would laugh it off together on their first meeting. With Shinwon, be prepared for a whole bunch of dates, but he seems to be the type who prefers to spend more time outside than in the confines of the shared home, so with the help of his members, he would be on his way to planning the most romantic beach date ever, picnic date or even a specially organised candlelit dinner starring his members with a romantic performance. In fact, one of them might just turn out to be the proposal, and it might end up becoming a fumbling mess, but it is clear that he would be well adored by his crush and fans alike, especially since it is clear that he tried his best and even went out of his way to make the best memory for his crush. With his immense love for burgers, his crush can probably be prepared for cooking dates when he decides to stay at home for a home cooked meal, and while he might not be the best kitchen helper, he will try his best anyway, even if it simply means washing the dishes instead of participating in the cooking. Despite all the fun and games, there will be serious times too and I feel that Shinwon is more of a listener, which would further deepen the relationship in real life eventually. There will never be a dull moment with Shinwon really, he’s too much of a goofball for that.

So??? Wow? I can’t even believe I’m able to make this because where the heck did you all come from so quickly?? I’ve only made this account a couple months ago and the amount of followers I’ve gained in such a short amount of time has really? Blown my mind I don’t know how I ever came to deserve you guys. I’ve made so many friends and had such lovely interactions with you guys I will never begin to explain how thankful I am for you all. You guys really do help get me up in the morning and whenever I’m sad you guys always lift me up so high my heart is so warm for you all.

I really really want to thank everyone who has ever interacted with me, sent me asks, reblogged my content, asked me for advice, given me advice, tagged me in posts, and so on. It’s not even about the numbers honestly, although this is a goal of mine and I am really shocked how quickly it came about, it’s really more about each individual person. You guys are all so sweet and kind to me and I know there’s lots of negative things people say about ARMY’s I have to say that you guys have not let me down at all.
