Dungeon Meshi I am able to enjoy the prejudiced characters because the tone is not a full-on morality play. Its just a bunch of stuff happening in an uncaring universe and peoples choices have consequences.
(aside from maybe that one time Marcille said the criminals will one day be punished by the universe for shunning vegetables and then the criminals are attacked by orcs)
What is insufferable is works all about punishing people for flaws or tackling issues just...treat bigotry as a funny quirk
Instead of just being "realistic" its often showing where a writer's priorities lie.

hey what racism or speciesm do puppets face. And does wally still get harrased for being a puppet
Second question first
Very rarely do they have bad experiences, Wally coordinates their activities to avoid unwanted interactions. There are still people who disregard puppets no matter the circumstances, so harassment is expected sometimes.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He forgets he has no power out of the studio. Wow some people are something. Luck for Wally, his friends seem to think it’s not anything against them being puppets.
Tumblr media
So types of intolerance puppets receive would be almost passive aggressive than anything
They get paid noticeably less than human men and women. Puppets are encouraged to stay in small entertainment, and are pushed from other professions. Though there’s been a good number of puppets who managed to get good paying jobs, but not all. Any police reports made by them are not taken seriously and usually get thrown out. Some establishments take advantage of this to change their rules and prices.
Don’t get me wrong, the majority shows at least human decency and means no ill will.
Should note racism against poc still exists as it is now and laws for puppet equality have not been established yet. Progress is happening, just can’t see it often.

Hey what specism or racism do puppets experience
Well! It's what you'd probably think!
Frillsand, aka the creator of the Actor Au, said that the Au is based off of both The Happytime Murders and Cats Don't Dance.
My main focus is on The Happytime Murders!
Tumblr media
(WARNING: THIS MOVIE CONTAINS VIOLENCE, ADULT FUN TIME, STRONG LANGUAGE, AND OVERALL IS A VERY RATED R MOVIE SO PLEASE KEEP ALL OF THAT IN MIND IF YOU WATCH IT. Though I do recommend it if you're unbothered by any of that because it's super funny and fun for me to watch😂)
Anyways! In the Actor Au, its world is pretty much like the world in this movie! (as far as I understand from talking with Frillsand! Of course, I might make some errors so it's always best to ask them these kinds of questions! But I think I know enough to answer this at least)
Puppets live alongside humans but are VERY CLEARLY treated as if they aren't exactly like humans besides appearance and how their bodies work.
Despite being just as intelligent as humans, puppets are treated really badly. Constantly being bad-mouthed right to their face. And having a difficult time just living. In the movie, puppets can't even be cops!
Besides starring in children's shows and or having very crappy jobs. They don't have many opportunities :(
Puppets often experience hate crimes against them, being insulted daily, having their body parts torn off, being fearful of dogs that might mistake them as chew toys, and being seen as very easy targets.
Of course, Humans still find appeals from puppets in “other” ways too.
Maybe you can see why Millie uses her looks to her advantage now?
She lives in a city full of cruel humans, it's a daily thing for her to at least experience some kind of racism or speciesm against her like at least three times.
It's difficult to get a good-paying job! Or just a job for that matter!
So once she fully realizes “Hey, I'm hot as fuck! Plenty of humans and puppets want me!” she fully uses that to her advantage. Giving herself a comfortable enough life that she doesn't stress about living on the streets and having to sell her body.
She was VERY fortunate to get that acting job (despite the fact she didn't even want it-) and currently is very well off thanks to Wally.
Again, I recommend watching this movie for a better understanding. Or better yet, ask Frillsand! I'm sure I made some kind of errors in the world-building! Or something might have changed! But I hope you helped you a bit!
Sorry if its a little confusing, I kinda just word-vomited on this😅

You can tell most people who make the speciesm argument about "why are cats and dogs treated like pets while cows are livestock" clearly have a very American/western world view. For the longest time in many societies and present day cultures dogs have also been seen as a "beast of burden".
Many places today like my own personal experience in rural siberia there's still a two tiered dog population. The toy dogs are pet dogs and big dogs are guard dogs, and they are treated differently. The attitude is changing and you now see more large or working breeds being thoroughly regarded as "pet" but yeah your relationship to dogs is not universal. Many human societies have been simultaneously breeding one type of dog for companionship while another is being bred for utility or even meat.

Which fic were you talking about on that tensimm post? The one you described as the Doctor needing to know he’s forgiven by the Master. I need to know lol
Hi! It's this one:
It's... a bit heavy, as in the Doctor's guilt needs to be dealt with through pain (and painful sex), but the ending is realy cathartic. Kind of obsessed with the idea TLotTL's I forgive is you is not just a Personal Jesus thing, but also about Ten's survirour's guilt and search for reconciliation by "taking care of" his speciesmate, especially if it's more of a subconscious thing <3

Hold on !
Are werewolves a race?
More like a species right??? Shouldn’t be speciesm??
Any way, como así que hablas español me siento personalmente engañada
No, because this is actually a brilliant question. And... I'm not sure. I've actually been pondering about this one for a bit now, so bear with me while I share my 3 am thoughts.
Most folklore treats lycanthropy as either a curse (you did something bad to a witch, she was pissed, and now you're cursed) or an infection (you get bitten, and now you're one of us). So yeah, we could definitely call it a condition, as long as we're studying it.
And no, I suppose it wouldn't be called a race; it'd be more of a patient or an infected in the end, similar to zombies maybe? Therefore, instead of saying racist wizards, I should have said segregationist wizards? But then it doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?
They have proved to be prejudiced in the past too; they saw Hagrid and Madame Maxime as inferior because they were part-giant. So they're still prejudiced/racist even if it doesn't apply to werewolves.
But honestly, I'm not even sure anymore lol
¡Y siii! Hablo español, jaja, mucho gusto <3 Cuando quieras continuar la plática de media noche sobre la naturaleza de los hombres lobo y las implicaciones racistas de los magos, I'm your girl!

Heavy NSFW for mention of SA and smut
Why is the Watchmen fandom so nice and nuanced the gothic lit fandom such a trash fire?
I first discovered good non-fetishistic smut of intersex characters as watchmen fic and there is a furry AU where everyone is turned into animals by Jon and there is scene where Dan and Rorschach discuss that speciesm will replace racism and the moral implications of them being carnivores now (Dan is an Owl and Rory a possum).
Meanwhile in the J/H fandom we have jekyde and weird rapefic with our protagonist on both sides of the spectrum as either victim or perpetrator (or both, not neccesarily because Jekyde but often). The most upvoted story is written by a person who thinks Utterson is boring and Henriel has no chemistry. Here and there you have Creature/Hyde jokefic and Utterson mourns his childhood friends and various retellings
It's like every watchmen fan decided to prove Sturgeon's law wrong and I fully expected that of all highbrow comics fandoms. The sandman fandom and Good Omens fandom is also the exception to this possibly because Neil Gaiman fans are the best
But the same isn't necessarily true of Alan Moore fans so why Watchmen
I don’t know?? It’s wild though maybe it’s because Moore comics tend to be misinterpreted by dorks and therefore the Watchmen fandom is more careful with what flies or doesn’t.

King Nova is an interesting character to me because while is a bigoted, conservative jerkass he isnt completely irredeemable; he does care about his daughter even if he is a douche to almost everyone else. Its rare to see the character archetype "fantasy racist" and "conservative parent" get any depth or used as more than an one-off antagonist to teach a lesson about acceptance.
Come to think of it, Nova reminds me of Val Yor from the "troq" ep of Teen Titans. Both are jerks who dont change their views even when the people they're prejudiced against save the day/their kingdom, so its interesting that Nova is still not treated as irredeemable
HE'S ALSO AN ADDICT AND REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS DAUGHTER/TRIED TO INTERVENE WHEN HE FOUND OUT SHE STARTED DOING THE. ENERGY. THINGIE AND I LOVE THAT SOOO MUCH...
Nova is such a good character with a lot of depth, I'm sure it's a common headcanon but other than just raised racism/speciesm, if he did have a queen they was likely killed by someone who wasn't tangean. although he would be overprotective instead I guess.
I like that Mira gets to challenge his ideals and beliefs and becomes a way for him to be more open to new things!! even though he's so against it he lets her do her anyway and when it matters at least tries to see it her way?? which is really sweet

Also it generally bothers me how animals must be human like in order to garner affection from most people, it's such a joke that people believe in ”speciesm" the oppression of animals because they are different from us, yet many of these same people try to paint x or y animal as valuable by comparing it to people or pointing out a trait of it that's similar to humans. Like it's beautiful how loving whale moms are to their calves like humans, yes, but is that why we should care about them? shouldn't we also care about them if they weren't loving moms? aren't they still valuable to the world even if they cannibalized their children? or do you only care about other living creatures if they are like us?
What about parasites? bloodsucking ticks? wasps that lay their eggs in dead spiders they've paralyzed, rat mothers that eat half their newborns? newborn caecillians that eat their mother's delicious skin? the earthworm that has no sense of morality, altruism, or parental love? aren't they worthy too? do they have to be like us to be loved?

The salmon thing is sadly common ada great example of speciesm. There are many animals where you have type "alive" or "animal" after their name on Google Image... otherwise you only get their flesh or corpse :(
😔 yeah even AI generators are falling for it now. I swear half the people I know couldn't identify a picture of a tuna fish if I showed them a picture of a living one.

happy late blursday/early sts (or if you don’t do either of those, take this as a curious ask)! are there any quotes you’d associate with your characters?
@rydykg
Thanks anon for the ask! I do this kind of Writeblr ask, don't worry :D
Honestly... I'm not the most cultured person in quotes, but if meme quotes count, then..
I associate this quote "You're a villain alright, just not a SUPER one" with Sir Fangar. Just because he's unhinged and continued the same war even in another era lol. Maybe even the "My death was... greatly exaggerated" goes well with him
I associate Fluminox with "I'm surrounded by idiots" from Scar, simply because he believes that every ground born is an idiot. Much speciesm yes?
Spoilers!! But...
I'd associated Cragger with Tolkien's quote: "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.".
