Specters of Marx – Are you shitting me? It's a lock. If you form a band and call it this I will design all your merch for free.
Archive Fever – If I could sing/write music/play an instrument this would be my band's name and we'd be a krautrock-inspired open ended performance collective and you'd hate our guts
Limited Inc – Sort of an 80s-90s vibe to this one but also has some star power. Like, shit, I'd buy their t-shirt.
The Animal That Therefore I Am – Perfect for like a female-fronted shoegaze project or something
Spurs – A good hardcore band name
Force de Loi – I get "Portland-based aughties indie sleaze with a cult following" vibes from this
Of Grammatology – Ranked lower because I think this is one where you can't get away with calling your band this unless you actually enjoy Derrida and have read his writing extensively, since Of Grammatology is arguably his best known work
Différance – See above, also unless you're in France get ready for people to mispronounce the shit out of your band name
Acts of Religion – Goth rock/glam metal vibes for this one I think
Margins of Philosophy/Right to Philosophy – A tie between these two as they're very similar. I think they're also kind of 80s-90s flavored and a little clunky, but if the music was really good, I'd be down for it
Of Spirit – Post-hardcore or emo band but in the Rites of Spring vein would be perfect for this
The Truth in Painting – I think this sounds potentially cool as some kind of moody early 2000s prog or noise project, once again if the music was good I'd be into it
The Gift of Death – Sounds cool but I can't imagine this as anything other than an overly macho black metal effort which is not my speed
Theory & Practice – Your band would have to make REALLY good music for this not to be annoying unless you were some kind of hot PhD student making beats alone in her room

Named after the economic thinker, the Head of Marx puts in mind the sleek plausibility of revolution. To be inducted into this art, you must recite the Communist Mantra and have your skull broken apart with anticapitalist enlightenment, then sutured back together to become a silver kintsugi, with threads of nano-mantra-wires made by the Monk Shatrasattva of the Broken Mountain Range, a well known Marx-Dharmist. The Head of Marx makes your head thicker than most. You become fucking determined. Your main attacking tool becomes your HEAD, you slam it down and destroy and kill the specter.

Can one, in order to question it, address oneself to a ghost? To whom? To him? To it, as Marcellus says once again and so prudently? “Thou art a Scholler; speake to it Horatio. . . Question it.”
The question deserves perhaps to be put the other way: Could one address oneself in general if already some ghost did not come back? If he loves justice at least, the “scholar” of the future, the “intellectual” of tomorrow should learn it and from the ghost. He should learn to live by learning not how to make conversation with the ghost but how to talk with him, with her, how to let them speak or how to give them back speech, even if it is in oneself, in the other, in the other in oneself: they are always there, specters, even if they do not exist, even if they are no longer, even if they are not yet. They give us to rethink the “there” as soon as we open our mouths, even at a colloquium and especially when one speaks there in a foreign language:

wake up, wormblr, it's time for your irregularly scheduled schizopost:
so in an earlier post i discussed the ways in which worm resembles literature of the first world war--its style of violence, its psychoanalytic tropes--but i believe now that that was inaccurate. where i recognized one of worm's defining characteristics (its lack of ideology) i failed to put it in the appropriate theoretical framework. i now understand it is End-of-History Fiction.
i reached this insight while reading about the contemporary mexican civil war: i believe that, just james cameron's Avatar is essentially gillo pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers repackaged to be sold to an american population incurably brainpoisoned by a century of insidious hollywood plot-structuring, worm is essentially an attempt to repackage the battle between the mexican government and the los zetas drug cartel for a generation of hpmor readers. at the center of worm is, for all intents and purposes, a non-ideological civil war between the commonwealth of massachusetts (although political borders are not a useful concept here, as we shall discuss later) and a whole concatenation of gangs, namely the one of which the undersiders are but one part. but these are not gangs--as in the case of los zetas--that run according to the antiquated patriarchal model as exemplified by the italian mafia; instead, they are entirely sans ideology.
they are, as opposed to the familially or religiously or politically bound criminal/terrorist actors of the twentieth century, essentially an-narco-capitalist in nature. they have no goal but the bottom line. their mode of governing is a return to what foucault would call the society of sovereignty, which defined the feudal era. as reporter seth harp says of the so-called drug war in mexico: "it isn't that the governors are corrupt so much as they are of the cartel." but crucially, this is backed by conspiracies of technocapitalists (cauldron in worm; the united states in the case of mexico). the global circulation of drugs, guns, and money requires a speed only attained through the porousness of borders made possible by neoliberal policies such as NAFTA. both wars are not feudal but neo-feudal.
in his book Specters of Marx, jacques derrida describes the fundamentally christian eschato-teleology of hegel's conception of history, which francis fukuyama adapts and updates for the post-cold war world. this is the method by which worm reconciles its cynical post- or anti-ideology with its messianic content (in the form of taylor, who is far more christlike than moses-like, defined by the sublimated violence engendered by the "turning of the cheek"). post-coil brockton bay is the concretization of the ultimate logic of neoliberal capitalism as anticipated by fukuyama. (remember, hegel did not believe that the victory of the liberal state would end conflict forever; he believed conflict was eternal.)
just as in mexico, brockton bay exemplifies what derrida would call the hauntology of liberal democracy. there is a promise of democracy, an injunction to democracy, but there is no democracy. these words defined the twentieth century, and in the twenty-first, where they have nominally "won," they are not to be found. there is only the farce of khepri.

In Jacques Derrida's 1993 The Spectre de Marx, the word "hauntology" is coined for the first time. It's a complicated read, but what it boils down to is this: a specter, a ghost, is both a presence and an absence, a being and a nonbeing. It is history, it is memory. A specter that personally haunts is the perception, the warped memory, of what was there Before.
All of this is a little set up, I suppose, to talk about specters and ghosts in Yellowjackets, which I hope to make into a thing. But I've seen a lot of people wanting ghost Jackie to come back, and I do too! Haunt Shauna, girlie, as a treat. But don't be mistaken into thinking that her physical absence means that she's not haunting the narrative. She's always gonna be haunting the narrative, and I think that 2x07 proved that with the meat shed scene. An absence is just as much of a haunting as a presence. Always remember: Shauna cannot tell where she ends and Jackie begins, and that clearly hasn't gone away in 25 years.
