READING FASTER THAN GOD: VOLUME TWO
BOOK: RENEGADES BY MARISSA MEYER
TIME READ: 4HRS
RATING: 8/10
Amazing book. Written beautifully with amazing blend of teenage angst, adorable pining and the enemies-to-lovers-but-they-dont-really-know-they're-enemies-and-instead-just-fall-in-love trope really got me. The plot line is incredible and in the series is two more books which I will read and then give individual reviews and then a full review.
This book is spectacular, with hitches and suspense and events that had me literally gritting my teeth with anxiety. My dad is extremely concerned.
The characters are lovable and well-written but I find them harder to connect with than other characters in books I've read.
LOVED IT

The books I've read this week. I have started a new book already, but i'm gonna have it be part of my next week because it's part of the next series.
By the way, I've had these books for a while (since childhood) and they've survived more than a dozen moves and so many cats. That's why they look so in disrepair. If anyone knows where I can buy a cheap full set let me know!

Me at 9 am: “I can read 50% of the book I haven’t read for class today. That should be the equivalent of a week’s worth of reading.”
Me at 1:00 pm: “Apparently normal people don’t read at the speed of light.”

how convenient. just as i was lamenting my reading speed, this video pops up in my YouTube feed 🤷🏻‍♀️
youtube
a summary:
silence your internal monologue, so when you read, don't whisper the words in your head, just look at them. (you can increase comprehension speed when you only look at words using apps like spreeder)
use a tracker (e.g. a pen or finger moving across the lines) so your eyes move across the page consistently, not jittery/back and forth.
not everything needs to/should be sped read. comprehension is, ofc, greater when you slow down, and sometimes you may want to savor the words. (so for me, for now at least, i will still probably read biochem journal articles and my mol bio book like a snail 🐌😅)
summarize what you read in 1-2 sentences (e.g. for every chapter) and consolidate (e.g. apply what you just learned).
all of these aspects could be improved for me personally, but i think the biggest sore point is silencing my internal monologue bc i very rarely do it. (it's so hard and bc it's hard, it's more tiring bc to make sure i understand it i have to come up w a visual and not everything lends itself neatly to a clear visual 😭)

I don’t know the right way to phrase this but when you’re a speed reader and you find a book series that is going to take you more than 2 weeks to finish?
IMMACULATE

I'm gonna throw one of my hot takes out here real quick.
Speed reading is just skimming. You're missing out on so much of the book when you do it. It's really not worth it just so you can say that you read 90 books in one month. We need to stop encouraging it. The quality of a read is so much more important than how quickly you finished it. Might be mean, but I won't take your book opinions very seriously if you're just skimming.

Celebrate Banned Book Week: September 22-28, 2013
Celebrate Banned Book Week: September 22-28, 2013
“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its shame.“ –Oscar Wilde This week is Banned Book Week, and here in Ohio our State Board of Education is marking the occasion by attacking Nobel-prize wining Ohio author Toni Morrison’s 1970 novel The Bluest Eye and recommending that it be banned from the suggested reading list for Ohio high schools.  Board president Debbie…

Being a speedreader is awesome but at the same time horrid because you don’t have any space to process the emotions a good book brings up so your body just goes through all of it after you’re finished reading. Like when I was little I’d finish a book and just lie down on the floor sobbing and laughing and shaking while making a noise like ‘uhwheeeheeeeuu’ because my tiny body couldn’t handle all the feels at once

Well, I timed myself reading Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth By Rick Riordan.
The book is a first edition, 361 pages long and I hit the lap time every 100 pages.
Unfortunately, I do have ADHD and got distracted but I can read 361 pages in about 3 hours and 4 minutes, after a full 8 hour workday. Google says the word count for the book is 85,079 words. About 462 words per minute and 27,743 words per hour. See the screenshots below for reference.
