meet Janka!

created in 1921 and commercialy released in 1936, named after a character in a famous song, Janka was intended to be the first fully inteligent record-playing machine for personal use. With her creator, Stanisław Lasota, basing its design on popular barrel organs, she was equipped with many different accesories to make her blend in with the enviroment. The most popular one was a folk-based look, inspired by traditional clothing of people of Łowicz, but many different options were available, with some owners even sewing it clothes of its own.

Although the company producing record players promised all of them would be able to change the songs by the voice command, it seems that only the original prototype of Janka retained that function. That's why, while the other copies went on to become just a fancy gimmick, Janka's value skyrocketed, providing Lasota with a great sum of money that allowed him to retire early and comfortably. After his death in 1937, the original designs were found. It seemed that there were no differences between the commercial versions and the prototype - except for the material that the top of the table was made of. In the original, an undefinable green matter has been used, that studies have not been able to replicate. It is suspected that the substance, mixed in with molten glass, was a gift Lasota brought back from one of his travels.

Once an unique antique, original Janka lost value over time. The amazement over her ability to change music at request and memorising entire symphonies after playing them once disappeared, replaced with annoyance, and sometimes even horror, as it seemed the machine gained a mind of its own.

Owners reported music playing in the middle of the night, suspicious movement and the needle skipping over certain words in song, forming a new message altogether. After the last owner, Jerzy Sójka, claimed "the goddamn machine, [it] has a mind of its own, [it's] the devil! devil is speaking to me!", the fate of Janka had become unknown. Many suspect that it has been abandoned in a basement or an attic, with some even claiming they still hear her song being played at night.

ok heres the spg dream, its so ridiculous, i hope you enjoy :]

So, I was in an empty courtroom. There was no jury and no random people sitting in the back. Judge Judy was there and was trying to help a case of the ut most importance.

Here's the story: Zer0 had once again stolen The Spine's cool toy fire truck. The Spine didn't find out until he heard a loud crack! and discovered Zer0 had accidentally broken it. The Spine decided it was his last straw and just?? and sued Zer0 for it??? gklvkflckflf

Imagine this: There's Judge Judy looking just... so tired, wondering why she ever took this case. There's Zer0, getting intensely defensive and denying literally everything ("And you're Zer0 Walter, is that correct?" "No, I've never met that man a day in my life."). Then there's The Spine taking this all very seriously and somehow got the idea he needed to build a defense too??? And I think I was Rabbit, I kept jumping up and giving my own side of the story ("Well, ACTUALLY! He never eve-" "Miss Rabbit if I have to tell you to sit down one more time I'm gonna have to ask you to leave.").

Now, this made the dream pretty fun, but boy oh boy was it about to get interesting.

So, while I was sometimes Rabbit, my pov kept changing into a cop. Apparently two very dangerous people had escaped a very very very VERY high security prison. Me and some other cops were in charge of finding these criminals and putting them back behind bars.

They'd sometimes leave behind clues (like torn pieces of clothes) but we were always a step behind. Eventually, we made it to the ocean. This would've been discouraging for anyone else, but not us. We were determined. So we started looking for some boats.

Back to the court scene, at this point Judge Judy is telling both The Spine and Zer0 off for being stupid. They both looked so ashamed, like a kid being told off by his mom. I remember me (Rabbit) trying so hard not to burst out laughing.

Judge Judy was finally about to finish and say "case dismissed" when the doors to the courtroom flew open.

So, me and the other cops finally made it into a town. We were trying to look casual and cool (winking at all the ladies looking our way) when one of the cops spoke up. He had just decided to look up these criminals (we didn't actually know much about them) and from what he read... well, it almost made us turn back around.

Almost.

We kept following them close behind, them always managing to stay just out of sight. Eventually, they ran into a building that confused all of us. "Are they really trying to get themselves back into prison?" We thought.

The doors flew open! We all turned around and I felt a smile creep onto my face. It was none other than The Jon and Hatchworth! Yes, they were covered in torn prison clothes (and was The Jon missing his hat?). Yes, they looked a little insane. Yes, they probably were a little insane. But nonetheless, we were happy to see them.

Judge Judy just got up and left by that point, just tired of everything she had delt with and wanting to leave as soon as possible. That's when I woke up.

(Also random note: At some point, I remember The Spine leaning towards me and being like "See, the trick here is to confuse the judge, you gotta change your story a bit, you know?" and I (Rabbit) was like "The Spine, what the hell are you talking about???" like he geniunely probably thought he was the main character in his own drama show or something lmao.)

The Steam Powered Giraffe Comic / Cartoon

I'm very excited for this year. Yeah we've got a bunch of live shows, but I'm also doing a lot of work on the Steam Powered Giraffe comic. Some of you may recall four years ago we pitched the SPG cartoon to a number of studios including Disney and Cartoon Network. Nothing came of it, but we loved the concept we came up with. The comic is the cartoon. It's the first step to hopefully hook people into the universe. We'd love to move on to animatics so we can re-pitch the concept in the future, but the story and designs, and writing will be in the comic, a place for it to live and breathe without needing to be green-lit by a studio. Though we've been wanting a cartoon of Steam Powered Giraffe from the beginning! Sam Luke, David, and I spent a large amount of time making plans back in the day, and as you can see with our various pitches to cartoon studios (Disney was the closest to biting, btw) it really has just been part of the undercurrent in the group. I love the story we've come up with, I love the new characters, and I'm working on honing the designs for everything with the help of people who are much more talented than me! If you stick around on Tumblr you may just see some sketches and art of your favorite robots, and our Patreon will host some behind-the-scenes goodies in the future. Can't wait to suck you into this world y'all.

I hate having to say this, but SPG fans are the most disrespectful, chronically online people I’ve ever met. A huge majority of fans don’t respect the band members or their boundaries, there’s recently been a spike of people posting and gawking over vintage rabbit (aka pre transition bunny) and it feels like any time someone wants to post about a different band member they like or find attractive, it’s buried by The Spine’s dick riders. Not to say that any of these people are bad people, but it’s down right tiring watching people speak over the band. Like personally, The Jon is my favorite character, but when people start pestering the band about why he left when the band has explained it plenty of times or talking about certain previous members who were messing around with minors, it just feels insanely disrespectful. I’ve even seen minors drawing suggestive/nsfw works of the characters on main tags, along with generally sexualizing the band members who have explicitly stated they are uncomfortable with.

I’d like to keep posting about SPG bc it’s really one of my favorite bands and I love the characters and their stories, and I have a good portion of OCs for it I’m really proud of, but having to interact with fans is extremely uncomfortable. I’m really only in the Discord server for updates and occasionally posting art.

Might get dogpiled for this, but I think it’s important to address, because the members of SPG aren’t mainstream celebrities, they are a theatre act, and this is something they’re passionate about, and it’s honestly sad watching people walk all over them.

(From research but also from my own workings with him. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with him. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)

Anubis/Anpu/Inpu/Inpw (and some other spellings depending on where you look) :

-He is the jackal headed Egyptian god of mummification, funerary rites and a fierce protector of tombs and places where people are buried.

- a lot of stories have him as either the son of Nephthys and Set or the son of Nephthys and Osiris. I personally go by the mythology where he is the son of Osiris, then taken in by Aset and raised as an adopted son after the death of Osiris. He is fiercely loyal to his adopted mother and his father. As well as supportive of his half brother Horus (Heru-sa-Aset)

What working with him is like

-He is a sort of Psychopomp deity for dead souls. Also in my experience can help bring you into meditations with other spirits safety (he’s guided me to a few of the other deities I work with now)

- He is a fierce protector. Big guard dog energy. Doesn’t usually have a huge temper until something threatens him or a follower of his.

-Most of the time he’s a very calm and patient deity. He will give space when you need it, and also be around when you need him too. He tends to put in the effort that you do. But if you can’t put in much effort he’s patient (just quieter maybe if you’ve backed away from him first)

- He is usually the first one to jump in to help when I’m going through something emotionally rough. It could be because he is my patron but I do feel like he is the type of deity to want to be there for, and comfort his followers/devotees.

How to know if he’s reaching out to you?

Best way to know is to confirm by tarot or your clairsenses if you have any. Or candle flame reading/other forms of divination.

If you’re looking for signs he’s popping up (this is rather morbid but so it goes with the god of mummification and decay) he tends to send roadkill to me. If you see a lot of extra roadkill on a drive to work/a regular route that isn’t usually there. That could be a sign. (I like to ask him to help guide their souls somewhere nice whenever I see roadkill)

I think he’s an excellent deity for beginners and if you feel called to him I’d say go for it! I started with a simple candle dedicated to him and went from there!

Probably not canon anymore but it's funny how everyone imagines Peter's face to be scarred or heavily changed when in reality (or at least in 2012) he literally straight up doesn't have a face.

Like, THAT ISN'T just a covering for his face. That's his actual face

Could it be lighting? Maybe? But I don't think that's how lighting works. I don't think his face is naturally allergic to light.

I don't think this is canon anymore because The Seventh paints Peter's broken mask as this huge mystery and unless the mystery is about bringing this back, I don't think this is the surprise we might be getting.

BUT HEY this was all borderline if not 100% canon at one point in time
