His feet are washed in a scene very reminiscient of Saint Peter being washed by Jesus, his leitmotiv is stronger than ever in the scene in front of the church, and his whole arc is about forgiving those who sinned against him.

I'm pretty sure he's actually russian orthodox but rules say that's allowed. His conversation with Katya Jesus told them to turn his cheek literally made me cry ahhh greatest mafia movie of all time

Eddie (tw mentions of suicide)

He meets Venom (the alien goo parasite that inhabits his body) in a church. Eddie is depressed and about to end his life and just before he does it goes to church and prays to God to forgive him because suicide is… y’know, a sin. Anyway Venom possesses him and saves his life and they have a crazy relationship/love story and the stained glass window in that church becomes important symbolism for them <3 He is the most catholic man ever

Admittedly, most of Eddie's insanity has little to do with Catholicism, he's just a deranged weirdo (affectionate) but he was suicidal once and went to a church to ask forgiveness before killing himself. That's where he met the symbiote and their relationship has parallels to both marriage and religion.

Listen listen he is the epitome of Catholic trauma. He’s got the angst. The repression. The je ne sais quoi. His whole story is basically very dependant on churches if that makes any sense. Like he tried to kill himself in a church and that’s when he bonded with the symbiote. They stopped a symbiote invasion by fu̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ crying out in agony in a church. EDDIE AND VENOM GOT MARRIED IN CANON IN THE CHURCH WHERE THEY MET. He also has so many breakdowns in churches and we love that for him.

He meets Venom in a church and has a lot of religious moments connected to Venom. They also sort of get married in the church they met at? It's gay. Eddie is catholic and in a committed relationship with an alien and it's gay.

(Cw suicide mention) He's canonically Catholic and has such a funky (read: kinda fucked up) relationship with it. When his life fell apart he went to a church to pray for forgiveness for the sin of committing suicide and to ask God to kill spiderman i think but then before he could actually do anything an alien came down and connected with him (in a gay way) and he was like "are you an angel". Also his sense of morality is totally fucked, its like "if you've done something bad once you deserve to die" and I like to think that's related to the specific brand of Catholicism

killed a cop in church (amazing spider-man 1963 comic, issue 300), had a homoerotic rebonding moment with his symbiote in church (venom: planet of the symbiotes comic), asked jesus to carry out a hit on former coworker peter parker (spider-man 3 movie)

Dealing with fear Part 4

Four more types of fear

In this part of our study we consider a further 4 types of fear that are experienced by people in general, but also includes believers.

5. Fear of circumstances or consequences

An example of this type of fear is found with the prophet Elijah who after having destroyed the prophets of Baal, heard that the wicked Queen Jezebel was seeking revenge on Elijah. This produced fear and worry, and Elijah ended up hiding in a cave. At this point God gave Elijah various tasks to keep his mind off the threat of Jezebel. So when you experience this type of fear try to keep busy and remember to rehearse all the promises God has made to you in his word.

The enemy says no good deed goes unpunished; the Lord says no good deed goes unrewarded!

Scripture Antidote

Matthew 6:25 (Jesus speaking) Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

6. Fear of the unknown or future

This is a common type of fear, and a biblical example is that of Gideon. Gideon needed extra assurances from the Lord demonstrated by his laying out a fleece on more than one occasion which surprisingly God honoured. At the end of his career Gideon because he needed to know the future took the gold earrings of the Amalekites and melted them and fashioned the gold into a golden ephod (only the high priest was allowed to do this to get the word of the Lord for the future). So Gideon because of his fears for the future led Israel astray into idolatry[1].

We must realise 3 things about the future

a. God has a plan for your life

b. God’s grace is sufficient for you

c. God will provide exactly what you need at the point it is needed (not before).

7. Fear caused by sin

Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Fear can grip wicked people to the extent they run away even when no one is chasing them!

Isaiah 33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites.

Sin produces fear, but righteous living produces peace.

We all need to keep short accounts with the Lord using where relevant 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

8. Irrational fears (phobias)

These fears are common even amongst believers and include fear of mice, spiders, snakes, and moths etc etc. These phobias are quite lightweight and usually can be removed by believing prayer.

Such fears can be like inherited fears where a child sees a parent overreacting to for example a mouse or other creature. It is as though the fear is transmitted from adult to child.

Scripture vs Fear

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Perfect love casts out fear, as we deal with fear in our lives the fear demons leave.

The more filled we are with his love the less room for fear to enter.

The more aware we are of God’s love for us the more confident we are he will help us

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

So where did the fear come from?

Prayer, Lord, we thank you for your keys for us to walk free from all ungodly fear.

Please give us a revelation of who we are in Christ.

[1] The Ephod that Gideon built was his own personal idol; perhaps a golden calf made from the gold he plundered in the battle, which became a stumbling block to his own household and all of Israel. This is the final downturn of his character and falling away of the one true God (see Judges 8:22-27).

it was just a dark humor banter between them since their humor does get pretty dark when they're around each other BUT yeah elves are sentient beings and where Ollie is from in his orc community they did eat elf sometimes mainly as a treat as in if they successfully killed a stray elf or something bc of the whole "Elf vs Orc" thing going on over there where they were battling n ambushing eachother left and right (im sure Ollie's momma had to stuff baby Ollie in her War Bra™ for a long nap while she fought in a few battles bc she couldn't find a babysitter in time lmfao) but yeah in that area of the world it was pretty common for orcs to just fukkin eat an elf or even eachother bc i mean cmon they're orcs they can be brutish and harsh which is what Ollie grew up with. Ollie's been welding weapons of war since he was like 4, even killed a few elves as a child and ate some too bc well that's what ya did!! Despite being a lil runt half orc he still took after his momma where he would love to hunt and try to kill things to be "Big n Bad". In fact I feel like him and Ponti were honestly very similar as children which is why they were able to connect to each other so strongly after all the Drama was settled but like the skull in Nubbogs enclosure is an elf skull that Ollie harvested as a kid (spider warning) :

bUT ANYWAY my theory is basically since there are more carnivorous designed monsters in this world (ie. sharp teeth, eyesight, behaviors, Ponti is literally solely made from carnivore DNA, ect.) i feel like cannibalism and that of the sort is probably more common as a whole as opposed to our world where the only humanoids are well *us* and we're omnivores with plenty of food options so cannibalism Should Not be common if u get my drift??? First, let's talk about the bouquet of red spider lilies, forget-me-nots, purple hyacinth, deadly nightshades and white lilies

Why these flowers were chosen and their meaning: Spider lillies: Death, final goodbyes etc. Often used in funerals and grown around cemeteries. | Forget-me-nots: self-explanatory, but also a symbol of true love. Which in this case is subverted. | Purple hyacinth: deep sorrow, regret and a desire for forgiveness. I think this one's particularly interesting because it doesn't symbolize her directly but is, rather, very strongly tied to the impact her death had. | Deadly nightshade: also self-explanatory. Symbolises betrayal. In addition -- a plant that's (both in her universe and ours) historically been used for its poisonous properties. | White lillies: purity of the departed, when talking about death. Also for white of snow. Four out of five flowers here are a popular choice for funerals/are associated with death. She died really young, betrayed, at the hands of the person she loved and trusted a lot, so I thought it would be fitting. Also in terms of color -- all of these together in a boquet would look like a splatter of blood on snowy and rocky terrain, which is fitting to the circumstances of her death as well. Description: This character died more than three thousand years the story she is from takes place. She is related to the protagonists in two ways: first is that she's probably their great-...-great grandparent's sister. Second is that they [...] look very similar to her in terms of facial features. This is significant because the guy who killed her ends up surviving and meeting them. He's a changed man at that point. [...] indirectly, she also saved her great-..-nephew's life at least once. She lives on, very strongly, in her killer's (former lover's) memory. It's not a "haunting" or even "regret or sorrow" sort of thing, per se, but it is there. What matters the most is that he denies himself the thoughts of her because he can't admit to making a (ginormous) mistake and also because even if he wanted forgiveness, there's no one left to give it. So he just represses it further. So that guy could become what he wanted to become above all else, one had to give up what they treasured most -- could be a thing, a person, or an action. So her killer had to trick her and then carve out her heart and eat it in order to prove his loyalty to his overlords and gain what he desired. Problem is -- he ended up detesting that as well (for other reasons). So not only was her death tragic, it was also essentially for nothing. Her actual personality has been erased through time (fancy for "she's defined more by the impact she's made rather than by her actual self") but she did have an affinity for magic and was also very fond of crows. TLDR: woman killed, influences the rest of the story in many unforseen ways, gives killer ptsd which he denies having for the rest of his extremely long life until he doesn't

Now, let's talk about the Ornithogalum

Meaning and why this flower was chosen: Ornithogalum (also known as Star of Bethlehem) symbolises innocence and purity, as well as atonement and death. Also Jesus lol. Which is fitting as this character is a good person who believes they're a bad person. They're both the hero of the story and a sacrificial lamb, trying to live up to their father's legacy. Description: Oh god, my buddy [redacted]. They're convinced they're a bad person who needs to be punished, when really they're a selfless hero with the kindest heart imaginable. Once symbolically murdered themself in a dream, and consequentially changed their milkshake order to symbolise they were a changed person. Has been a firefighter, teacher, construction worker. Pro-union. Once got kissed by a guy and then immediately stabbed by him as part of a fucked up dnd game. Believes a game of football could fix the prison system. The narrator is in love with them.

Note

I have to correct that anon, Dune was released on simultaneous streaming for the US release date ONLY. Europe, Asia and etc got the film a full month+ before it was released, so the streaming did not make a big impact on ticket sales. So yes, it is very accurate to measure the two up and compare them and note that Uncharted had a very surprising and successful run. That's not to mention that Uncharted was going off of a negative critic and fan reaction, so it pulling 400m is kind of way more impressive than Dune 1 doing so when it was hyped up by critics and fanboys.

Also to correct your other anon who spoke about the Dune 1 critical reaction vs Spider-man: the first Dune has a 84 and a 73 on RT and Metacritic. Spider-man NWH has a 93 and 71 on RT and Metacritic, so NWH actually fared better with the critics than the first Dune. Now I'm sure the second film will do better for Dune with critic scores than the first, but to try to dismiss Tom's Spidey trilogy's immense success - when it is the MCU's most critically financially successful trilogy and also one of the most successful trilogies of ALL time - is just hilarious.

Basically your anons should look up some facts before they talk. Also, it's pretty notable that the most viral content from Dune press has been Tom content. Tom Jesus pic lol, and Tom going to the premiere, and Z's outfit. No other events during this press tour have gotten as much exposure as that did. TZ are absolutely using their power couple status to support each other both on a personal level and a professional level. Like you said, WB should start paying him at this point!

Reviewing the First 14 Issues of Amazing Spider-Man Because Nobody Asked Me To But I'm Procrastinating From Editing a Presentation Video for a Grad Class (Scattered Spoilers)

The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (March 1963): What a strange issue this is. Admittedly, I'm new to older comics, so this multi-chapter meandering story really kept me from trying to get further in for *years.* Now having actually read it, its still a weak story, but not straight-up garbage or anything. Spidey saving astronauts isn't particularly exciting, but the fight with the Fantastic Four is -- it sets the stage for many of the webhead's fights where he's obviously outmatched, but holds his own with agility and quick thinking. Pete is obviously very early in his career at this point, but it serves as an excellent display for his potential, not to mention it highlights his desperate need for money (the F4 note that they can't give salaries, but like, Jesus Christ do they clearly have money. Maybe if Johnny didn't buy a new car every week, they could pay a salary). Then, we have the final plot, Spidey vs. the Chameleon. The first of many plots where the city initially turns against our favorite wall-crawler due to his framing. It isn't executed very well here, due to the cramped size of the story, but it is a fun concept, and we get to see the first of many times Spidey conveniently runs out of web-fluid. A solid issue overall, if not the best possible introduction to the character, imo.

The Amazing Spider-Man #2 (May 1963): Here we are introduced to Peter Parker's first "real" super-powered enemy (for lack of a better term). The Chameleon is just good at disguises. While Peter's first fight with the Vulture isn't all too memorable, it does establish the concept of the "chase fight," a troupe critical to the book. If you're unfamiliar with what I mean, I'm referring to fights that bring the webhead and his adversary up, down, and all around the Big Apple over the course of the fight. Pete's clever solution is an interesting display of the scientific prowess that he'll develop throughout the series. The second story, our first introduction to the Tinkerer... is goofy as hell. Sure, an old guy in a Vulture costume might seem silly, but the Tinkerer is a straight up alien who runs a discount repair shopo so he can sneak alien transponders into consumer electronics. I guess it fit the tone of Marvel at the time? I don't know.

The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (July 1963): Finally, a book-length story. This is an excellent issue. Now no longer cramped into half or quarter length stories, we get an excellent introduction to Doc Ock. He promptly beats the shit out of Peter, who has had a relatively easy time winning fights so far, to the point that he questions if he should give up the mantle of Spider-Man. After a random human torch pep-talk, he returns to fight again, concluding the issue with a triumphant victory, managing to put two of Doc Ock's arms out of comission and getting in close to finish him off. An excellent issue, and definitely a cut above the first two.

The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (September 1963): Another solid issue. Though Sandman doesn't get presented as the highly sympathetic villain he'd later become, he's still very entertaining. The highlight of the issue is a chase fight through midtown high, culminating with the (admittedly silly) solution of Spidey attacking Sandman with a drill, causing him to break into sand to avoid the attack, then getting sucked up into a vacuum. Another incredible victory for the wall-crawler. It's still a fun read.

The Amazing Spider-Man #5 (October 1963): Finally, ASM is a monthly book! What a pleasant surprise. That being said, having zero context for Doctor Doom's powerset, I didn't really understand why he kept breaking out random decoy robots and trap holes. Overall, a bit of a bland issue that quickly fades from the memory.

The Amazing Spider-Man #6 (November 1963): Why does the Lizard need to be based in the Everglades? Who cares! It makes for a fun change of location. Even if the Lizard's design is a bit rough at this stage, he's an intimidating villain with power greater than the wall-crawler's. His sympathetic backstory serves as a twist for the issue, and our chase sequence for the issue takes place in the Everglades, and then... a castle in the Everglades. Regardless, its great fun with a happy ending (even if not for Pete).

The Amazing Spider-Man #7 (December 1963): What a way to finish 1963! This issue is fantastic. We see Vulture's escape from prison, and then we get to see him beat the crap out of Spidey as his original solution obviously fails. The issue culminates in an incredible chase fight through the Daily Bugle, with setpieces scattered throughout. We even get a nice little touching note to end on with Betty Brant and Peter. What a guy, what an issue.

The Amazing Spider-Man #8 (January 1964): Looking at this cover for the first time, I expected this to be a real slog of an issue, but its actually great fun. The Living Brain/Flash fights are a good time, and its entertaining to read Pete's inner monologue as he tries not to turn Flash into a grease stain on the gym floor. The Living Brain is less interesting, but is another entertaining interior fight. The Living Torch section confirms that the F4 could absolutely pay Peter if they wanted to, and that Pete can still thoroughly outmatch them if he's really trying. A fun issue.

The Amazing Spider-Man #9 (February 1964): An excellent example of the personal drama that makes this hero great. Sure, Electro is a big threat, but Aunt May's health is in a rough place for the first time of many. Peter gets bodied by Electro, but he's still focused on helping his aunt first. Frankly, he beats Electro rather nonchalantly, but the May plot makes it a worthwhile issue.

The Amazing Spider-Man #10 (March 1964): Another excellent issue. While the Enforcers themselves are literally "big guy, small guy, and guy with lasso," they facilitate a fight that lsts for half the entire issue, with Spidey fighting off what must be a dozen different goons aat once, with everything in the environment being used. The issue closes out with two twists: an amusing reveal of the "Big Man," as well as some interesting characterization for JJJ. A standout issue among these early entires to me, along with #7.

The Amazing Spider-Man #11 (April 1964): Another issue in a series of bangers. Intrigue with Betty Brant! Spidey has to go to Philly! Doc Ock returning! A massive fight with a bunch of guys on a boat as well as Doc Ock! An accidental death on the wall-crawler's hands! Oh, the humanity! Not to mention Pete gives himself a damn sprained ankle early in the issue. The guy just can't catch a break.

The Amazing Spider-Man #12 (May 1964): Our first immediately continued story from the last issue, and it doesn't really let up. Doc Ock returns to New York and demands to fight the webhead, even kidnapping Betty Brant in the process! Luckily though, she escapes, as apparently, one of Pete's biggest weaknesses is the fact that a regular virus absolutely wipes his spider-powers. Who knew? Anyhow, he gets unmasked, but it doesn't really matter. The issue concludes with another exciting fight with Doc Ock. The guy just generates entertaining issues. Really does seem to be Pete's nemesis at this point.

The Amazing Spider-Man #13 (June 1964): Finally, the city *really* turning on Spider-Man! Mysterio really gets Spidey up in a bind, but the actual resolution for the issue is a bit weak. How can Spidey clear his name? Well, he uses an audio recorder when Mysterio is monologuing. How can Spidey beat Mysterio's spider-sense jamming smoke/sonar? Swinging randomly. Bah.

The Amazing Spider-Man #14 (July 1964): My God! The return of my beloved Enforcers! The introduction of Green Goblin?? And the Hulk's here too?? Yeah, sadly this is a lame issue. For whatever reason, the Green Goblin's first of many conniving schemes is... luring SPidey out to Hollywood with the help of a producer so that he and the Enforcers can kill him while they film... Why not just... gang up on him in New York? Why, so they can randomly stumble into a cave where the Hulk is, of course! Yeah, idk. The randomness is nuts with this one. Not to mention Green Goblin's friggin... broomstick. Hm. At least the Enforcers fight was kinda fun. Still a lame issue, though.

That's it for now. Perhaps I'll review them in 14 issue blocks for no reason. I am trying to read everything chronologically, ish, so it might not just be ASM next time! We shall see. If that happens. lol
