Idk there's something very funny to me about "who would win in a fight" posts that use the squishiest, saddest picture to represent Steven Quartz Universe vs whatever evil horrible bastard from a different show that would not listen to his friendship speeches. Bc if we're assuming these characters are supposed to be at their peak for an interesting fight, then yeah, Steven doesn't *like* fighting, but that doesn't mean he won't do it. And at his peak, Steven is a tanky, overpowered half space god who specializes in defense and healing and who very much does know how to utilize his powers. That's not even going into his fucked up mind/dream psychic powers. Like obviously a lot of the matchups are done with the idea that Steven will try to talk no jutsu his way out of the fight and then get immediately curbstomped, but I think it would be way more interesting if someone actually took into account Steven's abilities to see how he would fare in a fight against characters not receptive to talking

Could you do a Blue Diamond x Red Diamond (fem reader! or GN!) where red is passionate about life on earth?
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Thank you for the request
Unfortunately you didn't specify if you wanted a oneshot or headcanons so I'll do headcanons.
I have horrible writers block so this turned out so bad and short I'm really sorry.
Blue Diamond x Red Diamond! Reader
Warnings: None
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
Tumblr media
▪︎ You were obviously hiding it from the diamonds that you even somewhat liked Pink's colony.
▪︎ But being as close as you were with Blue, you had accidently slipped it while talking to her.
▪︎ She wasn't suprised but neither was she expecting it.
▪︎ You didn't want to go through with the colony.
▪︎ But it wasn't like anybody would listen so you kept it secret.
▪︎ You prayed the other Diamonds would listen to Pink's whining about not wanting to go through with the colony.
▪︎ While Pink was begging to you, Yellow and Blue, Blue kept glancing at you knowing you didn't want to go through with the colony either.
▪︎ But, you had to teach Pink to go through with what she's started and theres nothing else to that.
▪︎ But after Pink's shattering, Blue was devastated and you had to be there to comfort her.
▪︎ But you were, relieved? That earth was saved, even if Pink had gotten shattered in the process. You knew she wanted earth to be saved, her wish would be completed by Rose Quartz.
▪︎ Blue also knew that you weren't as devastated as her. And she knew you were relieved.
▪︎ When the diamonds wanted to blast every gem off earth, you didn't want to participate in the blasting.
▪︎ After it was revealed that Rose Quartz was Pink diamond and Rose Quartz had a 'son', you were extra relieved knowing Earth was alright and Pink Diamond was too, but just in another form.
▪︎ After Pink's son wanted to stay back on earth, needless to say you were honestly proud of him. ▪︎ having studied earth's life and then trying to teach it to blue
▪︎ You knew what son, mother, father and the earthly terms meant so you had no trouble adjusting to him.
▪︎ You knew Steven wasn't Pink Diamond, but Steven had his mother's spirit.
▪︎ And when you, Yellow, Blue and White took in Spinel in "replace" for Steven, you and Blue acted as if you were parents to her, together ofcourse.
▪︎ Not having earthly realitionship statuses, you liked Blue and Blue liked you. And that way it was, and because of Steven and the earth, White and Yellow didn't judge you and Blue for it.

Jewellery Box of SEKAI gemstone symbolism overview
Tumblr media
The Project SEKAI Creators Festival is being held this weekend, which means we got our first look at the Jewellery Box of SEKAI game! The game is available to buy and play at the Creator Festa, meaning pictures of the game and cards have been posted online by event attendees. While I haven't been able to find clean card arts yet, one person photographed the artwork that was on display at the festa and posted it to Twitter. I will be using those images in this post.
These artworks don't have the full card descriptions, but do include the meanings of every gemstone. While it seems that the gemstones were mainly picked based on image color, some of the meanings do tie-in nicely to the characters.
Under the cut due to length
Virtual Singer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miku - Emerald
Meanings: Happiness, Luck, Love, Hope
May link to the fact that Miku is a very cheerful character who brings hope to people. Interestingly, Hibiscus (one of her birth flowers) also means happiness, love and hope.
Rin and Len - Yellow Diamond
Meanings: Confidence, Divinity, Wealth, Eternal Bond
The last one is especially relevant to the Kagamines, since they are twin vocalists with an close bond across most SEKAI.
Luka - Morganite
Meanings: Affection, Elegance, Purity
Luka is very affectionate across most SEKAI. She's also described as elegant.
MEIKO - Ruby
Meanings: Passion, Courage, Dignity, Pure Love
"Passion" may reference MEIKO's energy and enthusiam that she's depicted with in her base form. Aside from that it mainly references her image color.
KAITO - Sapphire
Meanings: Sincerity, Compassion, Fidelity, Virtue
"Compassion" fits well with his WxS variant, as perhaps the most affectionate KAITO. The meanings fit with some of the other KAITO variants as well.
Leo/need
Tumblr media
Ichika - Lapis Lazuli
Meanings: Truth, Nobility, Luck, Health
The last meaning may link to how Ichika was the only member of Leo/need who would visit Saki in hospital. She would often give her flowers, which Saki states are what helped her to recover. It's a bit of a stretch though.
Saki - Bi-color Tourmaline
Meanings: Affection, Innocence, Purity, Confidence
Saki is very affectionate towards loved ones, on top of being rather confident. The bi-color tourmaline specifically was probably picked based on the Tenma siblings’ two-tone hair. Tourmaline is said to be a good healer, which could link to Saki overcoming her illness enough to be discharged from hospital.
Honami - Agate
Meanings: Harmony, Symbiosis, Courage, Health
Courage refers to her character arc of learning to speak up and express her feelings more without worrying about how other people perceive her. Note that "symbiosis" (共生) specifically refers to the ecological definition.
Shiho - Jade
Meanings: Compassion, Longevity, Happiness, Stability
Longevity may refer to Leo/need's first arc, where they decided to stay together and work towards going professional in future. Note that "compassion" (慈悲) specifically connects to Buddhism. The kanji can alternatively mean "sympathy" or "mercy".
MORE MORE JUMP!
Tumblr media
Minori - Sunstone
Meanings: Passion, Courage, Victory, Glittering
Minori is incredibly passionate about idols, and has worked for years to become one. Victory likely refers to how she finally became an idol when she met the other members of MORE MORE JUMP!. Sunstone is said to be a stone of leadership and uplifting spirits, fitting for Minori as the center of MMJ!.
Haruka - Aquamarine
Meanings: Happiness, Wealth, Wisdom, Calmness
Calmness refers to the fact that Haruka is generally the most composed member of MMJ. Happiness may refer to her feelings about being an idol and how MMJ was able to bring those feelings back (bit of a stretch since they mainly link this to hope).
Airi - Spinel
Meanings: Positivity, Challenge, Achieving Goals
Perhaps the most in-character so far. Airi had to challenge people's expectations to get where she is now. When she was younger, people didn't think she was fit to be an idol because of how rough around the edges she was, and she had to challenge expectations again when she was older and was constantly pushed towards being a variety TV star instead of an idol. Thanks to MMJ!, she is finally able to achieve her goal of becoming a real idol.
Shizuku - Jade
Meanings: Compassion, Longevity, Happiness, Stability
Shizuku is very compassionate and affectionate, especially towards her sister, with whom she shares a gemstone in this game. She's very caring towards other characters as well. Happiness could be connected to how she feels now that she's a part of MMJ!, as she was no longer enjoying Cheerful*Days when she quit due to how she was treated.
Vivid BAD SQUAD
Tumblr media
Kohane - Star Ruby
Meanings: Always the leading role, Passion
Another fitting gemstone. Kohane is incredibly talented and quickly surpassed the other members of Vivid BAD SQUAD to be in the lead in their group in terms of skill. Passion could refer to how she'd always wanted something to put her all into, since she had never been so passionate about anything until she met An.
An - Turquoise
Meanings: Success, Safety, Sociability, Adventure
Sociability is very fitting, since An is one of the most social characters in the game. She was raised in Vivid Street and grew up surrounded by the community.
Akito - Amber
Meanings: Prosperity, Dreams coming true, Embrace, Big Love
The journey Akito has taken to realising his dreams is very important to his character. Akito is determined to surpass RAD WEEKEND and has worked hard to get where he is. He was often told that he would fail and has subsequently had to prove that he will prosper. In addition, Akito is much kinder than he may seem, even once he drops the nice guy persona, and he cares deeply about his friends and his sister. Note that embrace (抱擁) in this context specifically refers to hugging and is mainly used in literature.
Toya - Sodalite
Meanings: Protection, Decisiveness, Dreams coming true
Decisiveness could refer to Toya choosing to stick with street music despite what his parents wanted. The symbolism of dreams coming true is shared with Akito, referring to how they share the same dream and Akito was the one who gave him his dream. Sodalite is also said to improve communication; Toya has struggled with expressing and communicating his feelings in the past. Sodalite can notably appear to be multi-color (usually blue and white), which, like the Tenma siblings, references his two-tone hair.
WonderlandsxShowtime
Tumblr media
Tsukasa - Bi-color Tourmaline
Meanings: Affection, Innocence, Purity, Confidence
Confidence is especially fitting for Tsukasa given that he is one of the most confident characters in the game. Affection also fits, as he is also one of the kinder characters, especially towards his sister, who he shares this gemstone with. The bi-color tourmaline specifically was probably picked based on the Tenma siblings’ two-tone hair.
Emu - Rose Quartz
Meanings: Affection, Beauty, Kindness
Emu is the most physically affectionate character in the game and is always giving people hugs, especially close friends and family. She's also one of the kindest characters and her main ambition is to make people smile. Rose quartz is known as the stone of universal and unconditional love - self-love, platonic love/friendship and romantic love.
Nene - Hiddenite
Meanings: Healing, Intelligence
Hiddenite is said to help with healing and recovery from past experiences, which refers to Nene regaining her confidence moving on from the incident in her middle school theatre troupe so that she could perform on stage again.
Rui - Amethyst
Meanings: Noble, Sincerity, Peace of Mind, Affection
Again one that was probably picked based on image color more than anything. Sincerity is a bit ironic considering that Rui is notoriously bad at being honest with himself, specifically with regards to his feelings. That said, he can open up if needs be and an important part of his arc is learning that he can be himself around people. Amethyst is a calming stone that is meant to relieve anxiety and bring peace of mind, which could tie in to Rui’s current arc dealing with his feelings and worries about WonderlandsxShowtime’s inevitable disbandment.
25-ji, Nightcord de.
Tumblr media
Kanade - Moonstone
Meanings: Health, Luck, Innocence
Health could refer to Kanade's healing personality and drive to save people. Outside of that it seems that this might have been another image color pick. Note that innocence (無垢) can also mean spiritual purity in relation to Buddhism.
Mafuyu - Obsidian
Meanings: Concentration, Power to see the future, Unlocking potential
The power to see the future may refer to the current point in Mafuyu's character arc, where she and N25 are trying to find a better future for her. Unlocking potential could tie into that too. Also notable is that obsidian is believed to be a healing stone and protect from negative influences, which is extremely relevant to Mafuyu's arc.
Ena - Amber
Meanings: Prosperity, Dreams coming true, Embrace, Big Love
Like her brother, Ena realising her dreams is an important part of her character. Ena aspires to be an artist, and she continues to work to prove her worth so that she can achieve her dream. Also like her brother, Ena is a lot nicer than she may seem and cares deeply about her friends and brother.
Mizuki - Pearl
Meanings: Health, Innocence, Chastity, Completion
Okay this one was definitely an image color pick and I can’t find much connection to Mizuki from these. I think it fits reasonably well with their cute image though. Pink pearls, which match their image color, are usually associated with femininity. Note that innocence is the same one used with Kanade.

YALE PSYCHIATRIC - THE TRAGIC CASE OF FATHER JOHN WARD (FAITH: THE UNHOLY TRINITY)
Tumblr media
With the new drop of development notes into the GOODIES folder of the game, I wanted to revisit an old analysis I did way back during the era of the Chapter 2 demo.
The long story made short is this: John has an interesting psychology that is backed by the in-game letters and allusions to his hospitalization at Yale Psychiatric. That being said, it isn't really expanded upon because it's not a core element to the plot.
Which, to an extent, can be disagreed with because it is entirely possible that the events of The Unholy Trinity are told through the perspective of an unreliable narrator (John), which then means that some (if not all) events that take place are exaggerated and intensified by John's mental state.
If you ask me, I see the series of events as a blend of details. Demons exist and the cult is very much up to something, but certain things are manipulated to fit a narrative (think, the Martin twins. Amy's mother miscarried, yet John was manipulated into believing the cult had kidnapped the born children for their rituals). I might expand on that another time, but for now, here is my perspective on the characterization of John Ward, and how mental illness plays a significant role throughout the series.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a psychiatric professional. I do have a degree and spent years studying the intersection between the mental health and correctional systems, but I am not a clinician or an individual with a lot of clinical knowledge. I'm just a guy with too much time on their hands and a tendency to let the autism win (/lh /j). Also, if there are any grammar issues… I know. It was, like, 3 AM when I wrote this, and I don't care to tidy it up more than I have tried to.
With this out of the way, let's dive into it. Below the cut will be spoilers for the game and discussions regarding psychiatric abuse. Reader discretion is advised.
In-game dialog and other citations will be highlighted using small text, as I cannot for the life of me get the indent/blockquote feature to work on desktop.
As of writing this post (January 2023), there are five notes regarding John's admission to Yale Psychiatric after the failed exorcism of Amy Martin. I'm going to transcribe them in order of events, and not in the order they are found. The first note we would see examining John's case file, if he were an actual patient, would be the intake assessment form:
Yale Psychiatric Institute NEW PATIENT INTAKE FORM
Patient Name: Ward, John Thomas
Age: 33 Sex: M Ethnicity: White/Caucasian
Assigned Counselor: Spinel, James, PhD
Health Examination Results: Height: 6 feet 2 inches Weight: 185 lbs HR: 92 bpm Blood Pressure: 135/81
Current Status: Minor cuts and bruises, sprain in left ankle.
Patient is in a state of psychologic shock.
Existing Conditions:
Asthma (dormant) Diminished mobility from childhood injury to right knee.
Notice the little note there about psychologic shock. We do get elaboration on the comment made by whoever conducted the intake process, which come from Yale Psychiatric Notes 1 & 2:
Notes - new patient initial consultation
Subject: John Thomas Ward
Present: Dr. James Spinel, PhD, and two orderlies
Subject non-responsive for first half-hour, followed by fragmented 'exorcism' narrative
Subject unable to maintain consistency in story (for example, stating that Amy was in the basement and then saying she was in the attic)
Subject insists incident was the result of demonic possession
Cannot declare subject of sound mind; will require several more sessions to fully understand subject's mental state. Will advise Martin Family attorneys.
Subject is suffering from delusion. In John's mind, he plays the role of the hero sent by God to protect the innocent. In order to escape the consequences of his actions, he has created his own reality. In order for everything to make sense, he needs to believe in the evil spirits and paranormal occurrences. I recommend an in-vivo approach until we can get John to accept the truth.
And for the love of God, please have Ms. Martin transferred to another facility. Somehow, John knows that she is in here with him.
Then there's the newer documentation and references to In Vivo, found in the GOODIES folder of the game. See the text around bullet point 3.

There are several roughly drawn images of the page, consisting of level mapping for puzzles in what the developer has called, in previous notes, GaryLand. The text beside bullet point 3 reads "Mini-environments to collect keys. Re-contextualized once you grab key (lost In Vivo). Placement of plagas cultists is 'contested space'. Keys? Sigils? Body parts? Notes alluding that John was there". Beside the last note is a doodle of the eyes emoji, with two stylized eyes looking to the left toward the text. END DESCRIPTION.]
Here's the thing about psychiatric institutions: They suck.
The mental health system in modern day America is better than it was in the 80s, naturally, but not by much. It is important to note that the deinstitutionalization of the mental health system was the right call to make. However, I must note that the lack of funding and resource allocation (mostly due to greed among politicians and public perception of those with mental illness) made it so that individuals are still institutionalized. As of the modern era, individuals with mental illness are disproportionately incarcerated.
The Prison Policy Initiative has a wonderful online research library with up-to-date and reflective research on the rates and treatment of individuals incarcerated, as well as how current carceral practices only work to exacerbate these issues through intensive focus on punishment:
But traveling back in time, before the tides shifted, we have to understand what the environment was like within psychiatric wards/asylums.
The deinstitutionalization of mental health emerged in the 50s following World War II. To make a very long story short, the human rights abuses were put into the spotlight. Several factors, such as inhumane living conditions, harmful treatment practices (which we will elaborate on later), and the rising costs and demand for psychiatric treatment, all contributed to the call for deinstitutionalization. The goal was to improve the quality of life for people with mental illness, and to really just… allow them to exist as humans within society. Though the movement began in the 50s, it didn't gain much popularity among advocate groups until the 60s and 70s (e.g., the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Project Release), where the movement truly took off.
However, large-scale closures of institutions didn't actually happen until the 80s, at least in the States. This means that, come 1986/1987, there were still institutions actively running. If you'd like to read more about how psychiatric institutions were run in this era, then I highly recommend reading Dr. David Laing Dawson's personal testimonies as a clinician during the era of asylums and advocacy:
But what were popular treatment modalities for patients like John? Firstly, and mentioned in the in-game notes, we have In Vivo Exposure Therapy, or more simply put: Exposure Therapy.
The American Psychiatric Association, in their Clinical Practice Guideline(s) for the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (2023), define In Vivo Exposure as:
Directly facing a feared object, situation or activity in real life. For example, someone with a fear of snakes might be instructed to handle a snake, or someone with social anxiety might be instructed to give a speech in front of an audience.
This intervention is not limited to PTSD, though, and is often used for other clinical concerns such as phobias, panic and anxiety, and (in some cases) Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The ultimate goal is to break the pattern of avoidance while confronting the fear in a safe environment. Which is great… for patients who are ready to confront these things. If there's one lesson to take away from this post, it's that treatment cannot be forced. Treatment is ineffective if the person requiring it is non-consenting or otherwise unwilling/unable to go through the modality.
So when you look at a patient like John, who is in an active state of crisis, and decide the best treatment intervention is to (effectively) tell him to "Suck it up" and induce anxiety and fear? It's disgusting and it would, in a realistic scenario, only exacerbate his symptoms even further. Which it seems to do, if the line about John having a reaction to Amy's presence in Yale Psychiatric is anything to go by. The man believes she is possessed by a demon (or knows she is), and has intense dread and anxiety around trying to save her (to the point where it's already a fixation). Exposing him to Amy's presence, or even the possibility of it, is not going to do him well until he is guided down from a crisis state and able to understand what is going on (as well as process the events that took place in the Martin home, because Amy would be a psychological trigger of recollection for said events).
John's official diagnoses are, ultimately, mild anxiety and acute coulrophobia (aka: fear of clowns). This much is clarified in the release form:
RELEASE FORM
SUBJECT: John Thomas Ward
DOR: 31 Oct 1986
This form certifies that the subject is hereby released from my care after having completed their required counseling and treatment to my satisfaction, with confidence that they are ready to resume their normal daily activities as a mentally stable member of society.
Dr. James Spinel, PhD
EXISTING CONDITION:
Mild anxiety
Acute coulrophobia
As an aside, can we just point out how John was only admitted for a month, give or take some days? Even if we take the events at face value (aka: demons are real; Hell is real; Lucifer is planning an invasion of Earth to reclaim what God has taken from him-), this feels… entirely too short to state that John is fully recovered.
At least from my interpretation of the intent behind "a mentally stable member of society", as the stigmatization of mental illness would place the burden of showing minimal, if any, signs of distress within day to day life… unless you were a hard-working husband who drank off most of his time at home while beating his wife, lest we forget the nuclear family values and toxic masculinity that still run rampant in American society. But I digress...
And immediately bring your attention to a bit of a continuity issue that, effectively, renders my last point moot: John's letter to Dr. McGlashan, who we can assume is a director of sorts within Yale Psychiatric.
This note is dated for December 30th, 1986:
Dear Dr. McGlashan,
It has been thirty days since the beginning of my treatment here at Yale Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Spinel, who has been so patient with me, has helped me understand my afflictions and has helped me fund a way to move forward and accept the truth.
With Dr. Spinel's help, I have come to accept what really happened in September at the Martin family residence. I accept that what happened was not the result of any supernatural phenomenon, but rather the desperate actions of a young girl driven to violence by her dogmatic parents and old church rituals that are thought to drive out evil.
I am happy to report that, since accepting the truth, my nightmares have ceased and I now enjoy peace of mind that I have not felt since the incident. Given my progress since first coming here, I respectfully request my release from Yale Psychiatric Institute, contingent upon follow-up appointments with Dr. Spinel in the future.
Sincerely,
John Ward
And raises several questions, such as:
If the failed exorcism took place in September, does this mean that John was within Yale Psychiatric from September to December?
Why was there a release form authorized in October 1986 by Dr. Spinel?
John states, "It has been thirty days since the beginning of my treatment […]". Does this mean that there was a second admission period between October and December?
If there was, when did that occur? Was he brought back in during the last weeks of October? In November?
My personal belief is that John was institutionalized twice. Once immediately following the failed exorcism, and once more after due to a relapse (hence the specification "[…] contingent upon follow-up appointments with Dr. Spinel in the future."). John, by this point, is aware of his mental health concerns and acknowledges that he needs more in regard to his treatment. Here, he's showing a clear capacity to establish and (hopefully) follow a community treatment regiment.
And this is where a bibically-accurate, canonical analysis, would end. A bit of insight into what happened, why it happened, and the ramifications (albeit brief). But here's the thing:
I believe there's more to John's case, since I believe in the blending of two prominent theories (everything is real versus everything is imagined). Personally, based on these notes and a few key dialogs within Chapter 3, I believe that John (in addition to the Anxiety) experiences Psychosis brought on by Paranoid Schizophrenia. In context of the game's plot, he experiences Persecutory and Grandiose Religious Delusions.
Let me explain.
There are several types of delusions, and the severity of these delusions can vary from individual to individual. More on the specifics (as well as recommended treatment modalities) can be found in this PDF.
Generally speaking, though, the types of delusions I mentioned are described as follows:
Grandiose: An individual experiences an exaggerated sense of importance, power, knowledge, or identity, that may have some type of theme.
Persecutory: An individual is fixated on the prospect of being attacked, harassed, persecuted, or conspired against.
Sounds familiar, yeah? Let's break it down:
Grandiose: Exhibited in all chapters. John is of the belief that he is a destined savior to Amy Martin. That he is the only one who can save her from the demon(s) plaguing her because he is the only one with the power and ability to do so. He, in the Super Miriam boss fight, also claims to have God's power directly within him. That he, in a way, is God (at least, in that moment).
Persecutory: Exhibited in all chapters, prominent in Chapter 3. In Chapter 1, there's "The Offering" Ending. John is (or perceives to be) stopped in the middle of the road home by Gary and his cult. Then, in Chapter 3, the entire arc around Gary's cult centers around the idea of John being persecuted (targeted by the cult for his attempts to save Amy).
But I feel like this expansion on John's psyche is supported within the canon itself, even if not explicit. Let's look more at the dialog cues from other characters.
One thing that slates me toward this conclusion is the brief mention of John's mother, Meredith. Amy's demon taunts John by asking him "What about Meredith? Did she get better?" and says how he couldn't save her. And based on the delivery of this line, it's clear that some sort of illness was what killed Meredith. Given that Schizophrenia in of itself typically doesn't cause death (though symptoms can contribute to other factors, such as poor physical health, risk-taking behaviors, higher risks of suicide), we have to look beyond the mental health aspect for a brief moment.
According to fairly recent research, there have been connections made between an individual's Schizophrenia diagnosis and their likelihood for developing Alzheimer's Disease. Kochunov et al. (2020) state:
"Schizophrenia (SZ) is a severe psychiatric illness associated with an elevated risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Both SZ and AD have white matter abnormalities and cognitive deficits as core disease features. […] SZ and AD have diverse etiologies and clinical courses; our findings suggest that white matter deficits may represent a key intersecting point for these 2 otherwise distinct diseases. Identifying mechanisms underlying this white matter deficit pattern may yield preventative and treatment targets for cognitive deficits in both SZ and AD patients."
Now, as a personal note, I have seen and experienced what Alzheimer's can do to people and how long of a process it is. My maternal grandfather, tragically, passed due to the illness in 2020. I still cannot discuss the symptomatology and progression in full as a result of the grief, but I can direct attention to the Alzheimer's Association and their article on the stages of progression:
Returning to the psychoanalytical aspect, mental illness can be hereditary and passed down, in addition to being individually developed (through whatever means, which are often referred to as the biopsychosocial factors of development). Such is true with the case of Schizophrenia.
Additionally, there does seem to be evidence suggesting that John's perception of events is questionable. Of course, I must note here that every character in this story is an unreliable narrator. Every character has their motives in the information they share and how they share it. This is in no way, shape, or form, me saying that other characters are objectively right in their perceptions. Especially Gary.
Gary is a cult leader. Even if the cult is not as dramatized as they appear to be (e.g., they are not, in fact, kidnapping babies and sacrificing people)… he is still running a cult. He is still capable of being manipulative regardless. I can absolutely delve into the psychology and structure of cults, but this post is long enough as is.
So instead, let's look at what it is Gary says to contradict John's point of view. The primary dialog that I believe points us to a faulty perception is Gary's recollection of the Martin twins:
"Oh, John… deep down, you always knew the twins were an illusion. But you could not resist chasing after lost (hurt) souls. I suppose you wished they were real, just like the late Mrs. Martin. That is how I knew you would come to me."
The popular analysis among the fandom is that Mrs. Martin miscarried the twins, and experienced a rough patch of grief surrounding the event. Again, I have seen similar experiences in my personal life, so I can sympathize with and affirm how rough this process can be. This is why Mrs. Martin had put effort into the belief that they were still expected/born, with the room being set up for them and the crib being discarded in the Martin's basement (as well as the birthday party and clown aspect).
John knew this at the time of exorcising Amy, but his own mental break altered his perception of events and made him believe in the same narrative that Mrs. Martin presented: The twins were alive. The difference here is that John tied the twins into his perception of the game's events, and came to the conclusion that Gary (and his cult) kidnapped them for ritualistic reasons.
Likewise, a lot of Gary's dialog has key words switched out. A list of these words is as follows, with their substitutions in parentheses:
enter (abuse)
lost (hurt) souls
Vessel (Victim)
journey (despair)
Again, this could be a simple nod to Gary's capacity for manipulation as a cult leader. But that doesn't exclude it from also pointing out John's perception of the series' events. In fact, this could be John's psyche interjecting and affirming itself.
So, if John does have this diagnosis, what would a thorough treatment modality look like if they'd pinpointed it back then? If he was institutionalized a third time, after stopping the Profane Sabbath?
The answer to that is either Insulin Shock Therapy (IST)/Insulin Coma Therapy (ICT), or Chlorpromazine (a strong antipsychotic medication).
It's important to note here that IST/ICT fell out of favor in the 1960s, like most shock therapies (with the exception of electroconvulsive therapy). Jones (2000) details the history and modality of ICT, stating:
"Comas were induced on five or six mornings a week. Typically, the third dose of insulin was 10±15 units with a daily increase of 5±10 units until the patient showed severe hypoglycemia. Treatment continued until there was a satisfactory psychiatric response or until 50±60 comas had been induced. Experienced therapists let patients spend up to 15 minutes in 'deep coma' with hypotonia and absent corneal and pupillary reflexes. Clinicians noted gross variation between individuals in response to a given dose of insulin. Also, in the course of treatment a patient could show day-to-day variation in his reaction. Further there was an uncertain relationship between clinical signs and the blood glucose level. The hypoglycemia made patients extremely restless and liable to major convulsions. Comas were terminated by administration of glucose via a nasal tube or intravenously."
If any of this sounds vaguely familiar, it's because the treatment modality was highlighted in the story of John Nash, a fundamental American mathematician with Schizophrenia.
The 2001 film A Beautiful Mind showcases Nash's story, including the usage of ICT. Attached is a video clip from the film, which contains content that may be triggering/disturbing. Watching it is not vital to this analysis, as it's to illustrate the paragraph above:
youtube
Ultimately, the takeaway is this:
Mental illness plays a huge role in the game's overarching narrative, even if not considered a major plot element in of itself. The Satanic Panic was a moral panic used by fundamentalist Christians to excuse abuse within their churches, excuse the discrimination of BIPOC and queer folk, and dismiss rising concerns regarding mental health advocacy. This, alongside simply targeting youth subcultures to preserve the nuclear family imagery that arose during the previous generations.
John Ward is easily one of the most fascinating characters to exist, in my opinion, because of how his character is linked to this idea. John Ward is a beacon (for a lack of better term) for this message within the game. He exhibits mental health issues canonically (re: the official diagnoses) and can be analyzed as having a deeper, more expansive diagnosis.
Everything I have said is interpretation, and is not entirely canon in the bibically-accurate sense. This is just a topic that's been in my mind since the release of Chapter 2's demo. You can feel free to agree or disagree with literally anything I have said, and I love hearing others' interpretations as well! The theories scattered around the fandom, whether posted on the Fandom Wiki or hidden in the tags on Tumblr, are just… so good. So I wanted to help contribute in some way!
And for those that read this far... Thank you <3

A Buncha Boneheads (Final)
Originally posted on My Patreon (Follow the link to see the full image)
Well, after drawing 88 different skeletal characters, here it is, the full series of "A Buncha Boneheads"! I was originally going to try and sell this as a poster but after looking into it, I don't think I can do that unless I want to deal with several dozen copyright laws.
This was quite the fun little exercise for me- the biggest challenge was trying to emulate the art styles of so many different series and properties. There are definitely more skull-headed characters out there that I could add, but frankly I think a nice even 88 is good enough, and there are other projects I want to work on for the future. Overall I'm pretty proud of this.
With that said, let me know if I've made a spelling mistake or something anywhere on here- I've tried my best but I just know I missed one or two somewhere.

thank you to THESE people who have supplied me with ideas (@wodimewoahtime and @the-one-that-weeps you guys are great)
SO. SOME BIG CHANGES.
will be having a "theme" for each group to make things easier on myself because coming up with an individual theme for everyone is a nightmare. These are just some ideas, and I have more ideas than others for certain groups
WxS: Myths and mystical creatures, card deck, or a marching band.
I'm iffy on the card deck idea because well. World Link. All aces. I don't wanna just steal everything from canon. But if I go through with it... Tsukasa is the joker, Rui is the king, Nene is the queen, and Emu is the Jack (I think that's what it is).
For myths and legends tsukasa would be either a pegasus or a phoenix or even a dragon, Nene would be a mermaid, Emu would be a fairy, and rui would be a wizard/alchemist.
For marching band, Emu would play the tube or trumpet, Nene would play the flute, and rui and tsukasa are the conductor and the drum player I'm not sure which one goes where. This idea is the most cohesive but idk what powers I would give them other than. Music. This idea would actually be based off of the Let Your Song Resonate Throughout the SEKAI event rather than their own event cards.
N:25: Tarot cards. Tarot cards. Tarot cards. Lower save me.
Mizuki is obviously The Reverse Hermit and Kanade is The Reversed Hanged Man, but Mafuyu and Ena are the ones i have to do on my own.
For Mafuyu I'm thinking either Reversed Empress or Reversed Hierophant. Honestly both of them could be incorporated because they represent her during different stages of her development. Maybe if there ends up being like. An evolution of ones costumes. She could look more like the Reversed Empress at the beginning and then end up looking more like Reversed Hierophant at the end. just an idea
I'm looking at Reversed Chariot or Reversed Strength Ena. BUT I'm not 100% sure these represent her character well, so if anyone has anything to say about my choice here then go for it.
MMJ: Tokyo Mew M- I mean animal magical girls. Haruka could be a penguin, shizuku a dove, airi a cat, and maybe squirrel Minori? I need help with Minori. Maybe lamb Minori. Idc that lambs are associated with kohane she's a hamster that's the end of it. Also this is def gonna take from both their DREAM PLACE and Ai No Material outfits.
ANOTHER IDEA!!! their theme could be "gemstones" and they could take from their jewelery box set. Minori is sunstone, Haruka is aquamarine, Shizuku is jade, and Airi is spinel. These gems are all just from the project sekai Jewelery Box card game I think it is?
VBS: Okay so this one is most likely gonna be the most diverse out of all of them. Their theme is seasons. Kohane is spring (because spring baby), An is summer (she just gives off those vibes + her fiery spirit, Akito is fall because of the fact that his name normally gets mistaken for "fall" (look it up its on the wiki) and toya is winter (because mirai).
Akito is going to be based on his Kashika card (I think I can do something with the red strings) An is going to be based on her Machi card, Kohane is going to be based off of her Flyer Card (ty hoc) and her Beat Eater card (big ol hammer), and toya will be based off of his mirai and maybe Valentine's Day cards. Maybe. All of them are most likely going to take elements from blender.
L/N: Times of day. Was originally going to do this with VBS, but I moved it to Leoni.
I'm not too sure about the order but for now I will say that honami is morning, saki is midday, shiho is evening, and ichika is night.
All of them are going to be taking elements from the From Tokyo set, saki especially. Honami is going also use elements from her fea card (if I find a way to incorporate it), Shiho will take from her Draw Your Bow card (idk I like the outfit) and ichika I'm undecided on but she'll either take from her Stage of SEKAI card or her Made To Order card..
That's it

Chapter 32: ...?
You sat on the floor of your library, but it wasn’t yours. The endless shelves faded into clouds, and the floor was glass. It was a library, but not yours.
You were at peace in it, however, the edges of understanding nipping at your fingers as you got to your feet and walked casually through this dreamscape. It was cooler here than in your space. The shelves were steel or chrome, not the warm walnut shelves accented with bright red cherry wood. Patterns of inlaid gold you could trace while you red were replaced with deep red spinels, polished smooth and given an eerie shape.
Like bloody rocks slipping down the silver structures.
Unsettling as it was, it was so beautifully done that it didn’t bother you. When you ran your fingers over the red stones you could sense him.
A man looked at you from within a nearby bookshelf. His fingers dripped pages onto the floor, ink splotched the papers, dripping from his hair and beard. Silver and red crawled like ivy against large hands and powerful arms. His labored breath made the shelf shudder with every heave he clawed from the air.
“You’re dying.” You say simply, standing away from him, but close enough to see the state of his legs. Boot leather cracking the glass floor as his feet seep into the ground like the roots of a tree.
“I’m already dead, girl.” He sighs the words before a hearty laugh leaves him. The sound is too clear, too certain, it’s the first sound that grips your heart.
“It’s my own fault,” he continues, the holes in his wide grin leaking gold. “Out maneuvered by an office worker. An ex-noble at that.” His laugh has less life to it.
Less of him.
“… It was because of him.” You say after a moment, resolute gaze getting dragged into the dark abyss of his irises. “If you had acted sooner, or hadn’t involved him.” You let the words drop.
The silence between you is only broken by the shivering, ragged breaths being clawed from his lungs as he is consumed slowly by the world around him.
“I… won’t apologize.” You say finally.
“Zhehahaha!” The full laugh booms against the world. “ZHEHAHAHAHA! THAT’S THE SPIRIT!” The bellowed words diminish quickly, his skin turns a silver grey, and you can see his body age before your eyes. “I don’t mind losing… ta’ someone like that.”
His eyes stay on you, and you hold the gaze until the light in the endless abyss flickers out. You stay, as his skin ashes into silver, and the blood of his drips like polished spinels against the shelf. You stay until the color leaves his boots, and become clear like glass, the cracks of golden roots sealing shut.
The blots of ink, the scattered pages, the scraping draw of labored breath, are all gone.
Maybe consuming the unwelcome was how the library had built its knowledge. Though there was nothing within the pages of the books you had read to leave you with that impression.
It was a collection.
But knowledge resided within people. Within their very bones. Generation built upon each generation, and over the decades the divine became wisdom. Wisdom begot language, language begot alphabets and pictures became a means of recording so much more than before.
Knowledge translated the wisdom residing in bones and blood, and made it something more.
Something more resilient.
Something that could grow, like a vast forest with an inviting warmth of blood-stained wood and bones of gold.

Pokemon Horizons Episode 24 Review - Diana And Terapagos
After two weeks, Horizons is back! Although this is the final episode of the first arc (Liko and Roy’s Departure), it feels more of a buildup rather than a closure. We meet Liko’s grandmother Diana, we learn of Terapagos, and the Explorers are going out of their way to become scarier threats with the way they’re gathering their admins.
Tumblr media
After so much buildup, Diana is finally introduced in the flesh. She is an adventurer as she started her adventures due to finding the pendant and Lucius’s diary in her family’s attic one day and decided to set out. As she got older, she gave up on finding about the secrets of Lucius, but still had the adventurer’s spirit at heart, which was why she still traveled around. The last time she saw Liko was a year before Liko’s story where she had visited Paldea and gave her the pendant as a good luck charm for school. At the time, she had no idea the pendant harbored Terapagos. As a character, Diana seems like a very cool person. I like that she still chases after her passion, adventuring, even at her old age. While she is finally introduced, I do feel as if she was mainly present for upcoming plot points and foreshadowing. She knows what Terapagos is; she knows what Rakua is. She knows that the Explorers are after the pendant. I just find it annoying that the writers build all these up and then get interrupted constantly, whether it be Fuecoco becoming hungry or the actual Explorers intruding into her house. I just hope this isn’t the last we see of Diana. I want to see more of her next episode!
I do like that thanks to Diana, we do get to learn a lot about Terapagos. Diana mentions that the form she saw in a book was much bigger—which is hinted at the existence of the Scarlet/Violet book. Terapagos was most definitely Lucius’s companion. Regardless, while a lot was given, there are still things we do not know about this turtle Pokemon. Terapagos seems to be familiar with Diana, yet she never knew it was inside the pendant. I guess Terapagos familiarizes with the wielder, even if it does not show up in front of them. Personality-wise, it is very cute and childlike. I find it amusing how Liko decides to carry Terapagos, Hatenna and Sprigatito all at once in different locations. There are going to be so many ‘Liko is swole AF’ memes once Terapagos’s official weight is revealed.
The Explorers are building up to be even bigger threats than before now. Spinel was easily the scariest of the admins during his stint. Now, Hamber is building up to be even scarier than him with the way his bangs reveal that the covered one has been open all the time while the uncovered one is purposely closed. His partner is a Dusknoir. He recruited the help of Onyx and Sango to pursue Terapagos. Onyx’s partner is Garganacl while Sango’s is Glalie, surprisingly. Spinel and Agate stated to be doing something in a lab, which is why they’re inactive. Amethio and his goons are back into the pendant search after he showed Hamber the video of Terapagos. I do hope we get backstories of why these guys are in the Explorers. I’d like to learn more about them.
Horizons really loves ending episodes with cliffhangers. I just hope nothing important is skipped over like how Episodes 22 and 23 did with 22 ending in a cliffhanger and 23 starting with Friede already out of the mine. If something like that happens again, I will riot. Anyways, what are your thoughts to this episode?

ooooh for requests, have the ametrio/amethio really interacted with omen at all? if so, i'm really curious how their first meeting with her was! (inspired by the art you posted of amethio being Extremely Uncomfortable while standing next to her) so if you have any writing to share regarding that i'd love to see it
I don't have any writing with Omen yet! I've been feeling more compelled to *draw* with her instead of write, but I'll probably get around to some fics later
It might be fun to do a "first meeting / impression of Omen" with the other four admins and ZirCon, like how I did with Frankie. I would write an Amethio chapter in that, his would just be different! Though, the audience for that may be like two people lol
In the meantime, I do have some rambling about how Zir and Conia view her!
Tumblr media
[obligatory cropped version of the chibis from that drawing - it's cute]
To start, Gibeon gave Omen her unkind nickname after she got severely injured. Throughout her life, she's had a lot of unpleasant things happen to her and the people she cares about, so it's a fitting if not mean-spirited nickname. How she feels about it is unclear
It's Gibeon that orders the rest of the Explorers to call her Omen as a way of airing his resentment towards her. Some of the Admins are aware that her real name is Oleander, but Amethio is the only one who refuses to call her Omen
Zir and Conia aren't aware of her former name, but they do pick up that Amethio doesn't call her Omen which strikes them as odd, they may start calling her Oleander later on when they start piecing things together
In the drawing where Amethio looks uncomfortable, that's because she's supervising one of his missions and he's nervous about how she feels. From Zir and Conia's perspective, they'd probably view Omen as someone Amethio is scared of
Until time goes on, and that explanation makes less and less sense, because if Amethio is scared of her, why is he the first one to make sure she's eaten?
Why doesn't he have any apprehension when he grabs her arm and tugs her into another room, not seeming to realize how childish it looks, like it's something he's done for a while?
When Spinel makes a snide comment, she doesn't bat an eye at having her Lycanroc ruthlessly take out his Umbreon. Viscous in a way that makes Conia's blood run cold
But when it's Amethio speaking out of line, it's like the thought of battling him to prove rank never occurs to her
And when Zir and Conia refuse to leave Amethio's side, going against her orders, the look she gives them is almost akin to respect. Nothing like the threats they thought they'd receive for disobedience.
The other Admins would likely attribute this treatment to Amethio being a "spoiled brat" but Zir and Conia can see there's more than meets the eye
That's a lot, but Omen is a pretty mysterious character ^^ if there are any questions about her, feel free to send them my way
