For Veganuary, some of my favorite vegan foods!
As a general rule, I use canned or frozen veggies in all of these. They’re cheaper, they last longer, and you don’t have to do any chopping (which is especially convenient when it comes to onions). The only exceptions are mushrooms and potatoes.
Rice!
I cook it with veggie broth (or a vegan chicken flavored broth), garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Before I set it to simmer, I dump in a bag of frozen veggies (I like mixed veggies or spinach) or fresh veggies (I like mushrooms) and throw in a can of chickpeas for good measure
Right after it’s done, I stir in some vegan cheese if I have it. I usually do about a cup of cheese when I make a big pot and that’s plenty.
Dirty Rice
Pasta!
To stretch mac and cheese, melt some vegan butter in the pot, add your unsweet dairy free milk, then add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and whatever seasonings you want. Bring it to a boil and then whisk in enough flour to get it to a gravy-like consistency. then add your dairy free cheese--you’ll only need half as much.
Garlic Butter Pasta
Chickpea “Tuna” Casserole
Alfredo
I like to add red bell pepper or spinach to a mozzarella mac and cheese; peas or meatless crumbles to a cheddar mac and cheese.
For tomato sauce, I just use a can of crushed tomato with salt, garlic and onion powder, italian seasoning, and a bit of balsamic vinegar. Spinach and mushrooms go well with this, too.
Some of my top recipes
Biscuit Topped Chickpea Pot Pie (takes a while but so worth it!)
Tabbouleh (I usually add chickpeas to make it heartier)
Corn Fritters (I just throw in whatever veggies I have on hand)
Biscuits and Gravy (I usually add some fake sausage to the gravy to make it more filling)
Split Pea Soup
Hummus and Pita (This isn’t real pita, but it’s close and much easier. Of course you can always just buy it at the store, too.)
Potato Wedges
Refried Bean Burgers
Burritos (No recipe, but I fill mine with refried beans, spanish rice--the little knorr packets are vegan!--taco sauce, and mexican style dairy free cheese)
Nachos (No recipe, but I top mine with black beans, a vegan cheese sauce, salsa, and black olives)
Pancakes
Desserts are easy--just sub out dairy-free milk and dairy-free butter. Or search for vegan versions of your favorites!
Cinnamon Rolls
Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls
Orange Rolls
Sprinkle Sugar Cookies
Rolled Sugar Cookies
Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Vanilla Pudding
Chocolate Pudding
Lots of stovetop pudding mixes are vegan--just use non-dairy milk!
Vanilla Cake
Chocolate Cake
Coffee Cake
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Banana Nice Cream
Frozen Pineapple Whip
Vegan Egg Substitutes for Baking
Cheese - I buy raw cashews in bulk from foodtolive--shipping is free, tax is included, and the price is very reasonable. I eat cashew cheese every day so I usually get the 7lb bag and keep it in the bottom of my fridge.
Easy Cheese Sauce (no cashews)
Go-to Cashew Cheese (This is a great base! Sometimes I add tomato paste and hot sauce for a buffalo cheese, or sometimes I go heavy on the lemon juice and add dried dill and parsley).
Pimento Cheese
Sundried Tomato Cheese

PHOTO TRIP: VANCOUVER ISLAND, PART 4
… Well, here we are again, and I am glad you are back for the last part of my photo trip chronicle. This time, no stories about viennoiseries, but maybe about burgers, and surely about the beautiful spots we explored along the coast.
At this point on our trip, our last full day on the coast, we definitely slowed down. The first two days we went full force because we were ecstatic and giddy about being in a new and spectacular place, even for the two of us that had visited before. We were charged with excitement, curiosity, and the promise of seeing things never seen before and photographing them. There were many spots we did not go to, or maybe forgot about, but we felt that we had seen a lot and it was okay to really slow down. Maybe we were also slowed down by scrumptious baked goods. Nooo…
Tumblr media
Rainforest Trail, PRNP, 2022
So, after having scrumptious baked goods we went for a morning forest walk on the Rainforest Trails in PRNP. I had mentioned in my first post about our trip that whilst walking in Cathedral Grove, the incredible size of the trees there would be a cool prelude to what I would see in the forests along the coast. And the Rainforest Trails were wow. Wow! Walking on a boarded trail, we slipped closely around great trees in the dense forest. There was a soft morning light filtering down thru the canopy that made bark and moss look deeper and vivid. And the exposed inner wood of trunks of long since fallen giants was smooth and shiny. It was an amazing experience seeing long hanging moss above us, trees growing on nurse trees, trees with personality, hairy trees, split trees to hide inside, phenomenal root systems sinking into the ground, clusters of mushrooms everywhere, stretches with parallel young trees, fallen trunks that were cut out to make head room on the trail, and trees that looked like they were entangled in a game of Twister. Along the south trail, the young trees were dressed in hairy moss, and close up the parallel bands of pea green fuzzy trunks were astonishing.

The happy photo amigos amongst the giant trees, PRNP, 2022
So, it sounds like the experience was spectacular but it was also a workout. The boardwalk includes an interminable amount of stairs up and down the landscape. The scenery was so awesome, but we felt we deserved a coffee break.
It began to drizzle, so our petits creux were good timing. At Rhino Coffee House in Tofino we sat on the terrace drinking delish coffee, maybe having a doughnut for more metabolic energy, relaxing a bit, and saying hello to a lot of doggies. Tofino is home to many chill young people and young families, with lots of outdoor and water activities to offer, and delish restaurants. I cannot say if life is less stressful for them in general. But if you are not working as a project architect (me), or project engineer, or construction manager, daily life is likely less stressful — I digress. So, I did secretly consider what I can possibly do to make a living here: barista; janitor; managing a bakery maybe; designing and building surf shacks maybe. Well, I hope there will be many more trips to chill and spectacular Vancouver Island to find out. On this trip I was disenchanted about Tofino, a place I thought of as mystical and harmonious at the end of the world because of romantic stories I was told. It is a relaxed, cool town. But for me, Ucluelet felt like a calm cozy town surrounded by awesomeness that I can walk to. Given my quiet personality and the previous neat things I wrote about Ucluelet — its rugged and wild coastline, its delish coffee and baked goods, smaller population, and less visitors — I would more likely live in Ucluelet.

Cove at Tonquin Beach, Tofino, 2022
As we were driving to our next destination the clouds disappeared and the sun was on, with always the nice sea breeze. The trail thru the forest leading to Tonquin Beach was very nice, and sensing the ocean across the trees is always exciting. It is a quaint place made up of small coves, and there was a lot of cool shaped driftwood. So, I spent my time searching for evocative driftwood and photographed many. I even "meditated" in a "cave."
Tumblr media
Me "meditating" in "cave" on Tonquin Beach, Tofino, 2022
No surprise, the direct sun light was difficult, or not preferable, for me to photograph in. I found some meaningful angles and frames, but subject and background were in shade so they were illuminated flatly for objects that had cool volume too, which would be evident in soft, or diffused, or scattered light. In other spots, there was too much contrast between the shaded and the illuminated. If you, dear photog, think that such a circumstance is a moment to forget about it, even I will say no. Under direct light, at least the shadow lines of rocks and driftwood were cool. There are always objects, spots, corners, and scenes illuminated in interesting or astonishing ways, you will admit, if you continue to explore and find them. Right? You just have to be there, wherever that is, and there is fun in that.

Okay, so then we went for lunch, and had a very nice meal and more laughs at Shed. The burger story is short and sweet: it was a juicy, scrumptious burger, there was a cute but ominous piglet statuette, and I did not mind the young folk.
We did not want to go back to home base too early, so to finish our day we went back to Wickaninnish Beach, I think. It could have been Long Beach again, but the trail to the beach was unlike what I walked before. In any case, it was the late afternoon and the sky was clear and we were going to witness a glorious sunset. The shallow waves were also coming in large fans on this deep sandy beach.

Dionysios in the Pacific Ocean, 2022, by Sharon Wish
Oh, I forgot to tell you about my boot story. When organizing my pack for the trip, thinking that I would likely get into the waves, as I wished, I considered bringing my waterproof snow boots or buying duck boots to help keep water and sand out, and for easy washing. Ultimately, I decided to wear my good old rugged waterproof Timberland boots, even though I was warned about what the salt water might do to the leather. They are many years old too. But I washed them and sealed them again, and was confident in their toughness and tread, and lurv how comfortable they are together with my cushioned, wool Darn Tough socks. And so, I had no fear to step into the water, very shallow water tho, and watch the flow and patterns on the water caused by the wind, follow the lines of incoming waves, and observe the patterns in the sand from the outgoing waves. I captured cool transient moments and my boots were not hurt at all in the course of our adventure.

There was also a lot of interesting driftwood, of course, and in odd formations to photograph here. So, we left the beach content and satisfactorily fatigued. Back at home base I went to bed early because I felt quite tired, but read, and I could hear the photo amigos having laughs.
The nest morning we departed. We felt we had a great time and spent our time well. Traveling with these three was organized, chill, and fun. I sometimes had to poke them to give their opinion about what to do next, but we all aligned. Even tho the ferry out from Nanaimo was in the early afternoon, we wanted to use that morning to cross Vancouver Island and make time for photo stops along the way. We also beat the road closing this time, sort of, as we only waited a few minutes rather than the hour going to the coast. I must say, these road repairs are dangerous to the construction crew and are definitely needed.

Driftwood on Rathtrevor Beach, Parksville, 2022
No, we did not stop at Goats on the Roof this time. But we stopped in Parksville to go to Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park. I did not expect the stark beauty I saw there. On the beach, the ground cover was muted — a hay, thyme, and rust, shaggy carpet. The beach is mostly pebble, but beyond there is vast sandy flats. One corner of the pebbled beach was decorated with tide-driven rings of seaweed. And of course there were neat pieces of driftwood, some artily arranged. I think the view across the water was nice and relaxed, with the many extended, maybe basking, landmasses and islands overlaying one another, but also because the clouds stretched across the sky that morning.

Ferry on Georgia Strait, 2022
The ferry ride was pleasant, and I do not remember the drive into Downtown Vancouver, or maybe do not want to remember. Thanks to Syd for driving us around and getting us safely back home, to Colin and Sharon for letting me have the leftover food stuff, and to all three photo amigos for a fun trip. I am looking forward to our next photo trip in Autumn this year. Stay tuned.
You can view even more of my photos of our trip to Vancouver Island in this Flickr album: Vancouver Island 2022.
How about you; have you visited Vancouver Island or Parksville? What did you like about it? Send me an email and tell me what you think.

Global Pea Protein Market Size, Share, Trends, Overview, & Forecast
Pea protein was gaining popularity in the food and beverage industry as a plant-based protein source. It's commonly used in various products, including plant-based meat alternatives, protein bars, snacks, and dietary supplements. The pea protein industry is driven by factors such as the increasing demand for plant-based protein, rising awareness about health and wellness, and the growing number of people adopting vegetarian and vegan diets. At a CAGR of 11.9% from 2022 to 2027, the global pea protein market size was estimated to be worth $1.7 billion in 2022 and $2.9 billion by the end of 2027.
Here are some key points related to the global pea protein market:
Growing Demand for Plant-Based Proteins: The demand for plant-based proteins has been increasing globally, driven by factors such as health consciousness, ethical considerations, and environmental sustainability. Pea protein has been recognized as a sustainable and eco-friendly protein source.
Nutritional Benefits: Pea protein is known for its nutritional profile, including being rich in essential amino acids and having a high digestibility rate. It is also allergen-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO, making it suitable for a wide range of consumers.
Applications in the Food and Beverage Industry: Pea protein is used in various food and beverage applications, including meat substitutes, dairy alternatives, sports nutrition products, and baked goods. Its functional properties, such as emulsification and gelling, make it versatile in different formulations.
Market Players: Several companies are involved in the production and distribution of pea protein. Some well-known players include Roquette Frères, Cosucra Groupe Warcoing, Ingredion, Axiom Foods, and Puris.
Research and Development: Ongoing research and development activities in the field of plant-based proteins aim to improve the taste, texture, and overall quality of pea protein-based products. This includes efforts to address challenges such as off-flavors and gritty textures.
Global Pea Protein Market Driver: Growing consumer awareness about nutritional benefits offered by pea and pea-based products
Pea protein powder is being popularly used to manufacture protein shakes, smoothies, and energy drinks to increase the protein content and is an excellent fit for almost any diet since it is naturally vegan and hypoallergenic. It is a great source of iron and high-quality protein. It is also estimated to help muscle growth, weight loss, and heart health. The protein from peas, mainly yellow peas, has been shown to lower cholesterol and blood pressure while gentle on the kidneys. All these benefits of pea proteins are expected to drive the growth of the global pea protein market.
By mode of application, the food segment is projected to account for the largest pea protein market share.
The growing demand for meat substitutes has aided the growth of pea protein, which is now used in the production of plant-based burger patties and sausages. The use in performance nutrition has also grown significantly, as factors such as lactose intolerance have led to athletes substituting vegan protein alternatives such as pea proteins for whey protein. Meat substitutes, performance nutrition, functional foods, snacks, and bakery are all part of the food segment. The meat substitutes segment dominated the food application segment due to the rising application of pea proteins, making it healthier and more popular among customers.
The Yellow Split Pea in the segment by source is projected to account for the largest pea protein market share over the forecast period.
Yellow split peas are one of the most popular pea sources among product manufacturers. This is due to peas functionality and adaptability to different product types, which is driving demand for yellow split peas in a variety of products such as plant-based meat, beverages, functional foods, and performance nutrition. Yellow split peas high protein content makes them ideal for producing pea protein isolates. They are valued for their amino acid profile, which has led to their classification as "whole proteins" when compared to dairy and meat-based alternatives. 100g of yellow split pea contains 370 calories, 1 gramme of fat, 67 grammes of carbohydrates (27 grammes of fibre, 3 grammes of sugar), 27 grammes of protein, and 25% of the RDA of iron.
The key players global pea protein market include Rouquette Freres (France), DuPont (US), Glanbia PLC (Ireland), Kerry (Ireland), Ingredion (US), Puris (US), Emsland Group (Germany), Yantai Shuangta Foods Co., Ltd (China), The Scoular Company (US), Burcon (Canada), Shandong Jianyuan Group (China), ET-Chem (China), AGT Food and Ingredients (Canada), The Green Labs LLC. (US), and Axiom Foods, Inc. (US). These players in this market are focusing on increasing their presence through agreements and collaborations. These companies have a strong presence in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe. They also have manufacturing facilities along with strong distribution networks across these regions.

PLANT-BASED BURGER-BUILDING GUIDE
Tumblr media
BUILDING YOUR BURGERS:
1. Pick your bean base (you will need 2 cups COOKED):
Black beans
White beans
Kidney beans
Chickpeas
Lentils (any color)
Split peas
(Really any kind of bean you find would probably work here – use your imagination!).
2. Pick your starch (you will need 1 cup):
Brown rice, cooked - this is our 'go-to' starch but you can also use:
Dry whole wheat bread crumbs or whole grain gluten free bread crumbs
Uncooked rolled or old fashioned oats
Quinoa, cooked
Millet, cooked
Amaranth, cooked
Buckwheat, cooked
3. Pick your vegetable (or a few vegetables) and saute them for a few minutes:
Finely dice them! If you pick two vegetables, you’ll want to decrease the amount you use by about half. For example, if you use carrots AND celery, use 1 rib of celery and 1 carrot stick.  For three vegetables, you’ll want to use about ⅓, etc., etc.
Celery, about 2 ribs
Carrot, about 2 sticks
Onion, about 1 small onion
Mushrooms, about 1 cup
Jalapeño, 1 or 2 fresh depending on how spicy you like your food
Once diced, heat a skillet and cook vegetables for a few minutes to soften up. Add a splash of veggie broth or water to keep from sticking.
4. Choose your spices
Our general rule is to evenly coat whatever we are making with spices or herbs, or if using dried herbs/spices, start with ¼ teaspoon and go from there. Taste as you go to get a combination that works for you. This list is not even close to comprehensive, but remember – get creative! Italian burgers? Mexican burgers? Jamaican-jerk burgers? Whatever you can dream up!
Garlic
Basil
Oregano
Cayenne
Thyme
Cumin
Rosemary
Nutritional yeast (which will give your burgers are more cheese-like flavor)
Black pepper
Curry powder (works well with chickpea burgers)
Turmeric (a little goes a long way – a few dashes will do, and also works well with chickpea burgers)
5. Choose your liquid (1/4 to 1/2 cup to start, adding 1/4 cup as needed:
PLANTSTRONG vegetable broth - Our Mushroom broth makes GREAT burgers! Liquid from cooked beans Unsweetened plant milk
Or, combine 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed meal with 3 tablespoons warm water. Set aside for a few minutes until it gets an egg white-like consistency. Use this as your liquid and add splash of broth as needed.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat the grill, or your oven to 350 degrees. If baking, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or another nonstick surface.
2. Add cooked beans to a mixing bowl, then use a fork, potato masher or your fingers to mash them well. Add your starch – you’ll want to mix the starch and mashed beans very well. Your hands will probably work best. Add your vegetables. Mix in spices and liquid, and finally, the flax mixture.
3. Form patties and assemble onto a plate or the lined cookie sheet. Place in the fridge for 15 minutes, or until you are ready to bake or grill. Transfer to grill and cook 5 minutes before flipping. Then cook another 5 minutes until crispy.
To bake, place sheet in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they look slightly crispy on top. You will likely want to flip them at the halfway point.
4. Do a happy dance around your house while you are waiting for the plant-strong burgers to cook. This step is absolutely necessary. Take out your finished burgers and bask in your greatness for a moment.
5. Serve your burgers on a whole grain bun with all of your favorite burger accessories, including but not limited to grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, tomato, hummus, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, hot sauce – whatever you’d like! You can also serve your burgers over a bed of leafy greens. Baked sweet potato fries are a great side choice as well.
6. Once grilled, you make freeze any leftovers and then reheat in a dry skillet or in a toaster oven.
Tips: Too crumbly? Add more liquid. Too watery? Add more starch.
Servings: 4 to 5 decent-sized burgers or 8 to 10 smaller burgers.

The Magic of Moosewood
I was intimidated the first time I sat down to eat at Moosewood. The restaurant, founded in 1973 in Ithaca, N.Y., by a collective of like-minded friends, was one of the country’s first to champion vegetarian and pescatarian dining. I was dabbling in vegetarianism at the time, in 2001, and saw Moosewood as a sort of temple to crunchy granola, with longtime practitioners who knew so much more about food than I did.
Back then I was in college, trying to pick a major and living, with around 18 others, at Triphammer Cooperative, a house on Cornell’s campus. I was in charge of meal planning for the residents, and that job taught me a lot. It was a crash course in vegetarian and vegan nutritional guidelines — the house was strictly vegetarian and included several vegans — but I also learned how to cost individual meals, the variability in people’s cooking styles and the importance of efficiency in the kitchen.
Here’s how it worked: As a condition of living at Triphammer, you had to sign up to cook and clean. Cooking was a group activity — three or four of us tackled each meal, and then another small crew cleaned up afterward. I was responsible for choosing recipes, scaling them up to feed 20 and working with another resident to order the food in bulk from wholesale purveyors.
Fortunately, the kitchen was fairly large, with a commercial-size, two-door fridge, separate freezer, six-burner stove, double sink and industrial dishwasher. My favorite spot in that space was the cookbook cupboard, which was packed with books like “Diet for a Small Planet” by Frances Moore Lappé, “The Vegetarian Epicure” by Anna Thomas, “Vegetariana: A Rich Harvest of Wit, Lore, & Recipes” by Nava Atlas and “Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone” by Deborah Madison. Most of the books were falling apart at the binding, but the most-loved cookbook, the one where the cover had fallen entirely off and the pages were full of cook’s notes and food stains? That would be the original 1977 edition of “Moosewood Cookbook” by Mollie Katzen.
Everyone in the house loved cooking from that book. Katzen, a former art student, wrote the whole thing out by hand, including little drawings, calligrams and instructive illustrations that offered step-by-step guidance for more complicated dishes, such as egg rolls, shish-kebabs and savory broccoli-and-cheese strudel. That hand-drawn touch gave the book charm and approachability. There are no full-bleed photographs of carefully styled dishes. Rather than push aspirational perfectionism, the book promoted a fun DIY attitude that, in my experience, encouraged even the most skittish cooks to dive in and get their hands dirty. (Katzen would write a few more Moosewood books before the Moosewood Collective took over and published over a dozen of their own. The original remains one of the best-selling cookbooks of all time.)
We cooked every single recipe from that book. There was vegetable chowder and split pea soup in the winter and chilled cucumber yogurt soup and gazpacho in the spring. Turkish-style stuffed zucchini, cauliflower-cheese pie, lentil-walnut burgers and mushroom moussaka — one of the dishes Moosewood Restaurant made on its opening night — graced Triphammer’s long dining table more than once.
I taught many people how to handle phyllo dough when we got to the section on savory strudels. My favorite was the one filled with broccoli and sharp cheddar cheese. The filling gets bulked up with breadcrumbs, and seasoned with lemon juice and black pepper, before it’s stuffed into buttered phyllo and rolled up like a big burrito. Baked until crisp, sliced and served with a side salad, it makes a meal that reminds me of the magic of Moosewood.

Broccoli Cheese Strudel
A simple, cheesy broccoli mixture fills this crisp strudel. The recipe, adapted from “The Moosewood Cookbook” by Mollie Katzen makes a fine appetizer. To serve it as a main course, pair it with a side salad. Feel free to make additions to the filling, such as garlic, chile flakes or chopped herbs.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 small yellow onion (3 ounces), diced
2 cups (6 ounces) broccoli, chopped
1/8 teaspoon fine salt, plus more to taste
3/4 cup (3 ounces) plain breadcrumbs
1 cup (5 ounces) grated cheddar cheese, preferably extra-sharp
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from 1 large lemon)
Freshly cracked black pepper
8 ounces (13-by-18-inch) sheets phyllo dough, defrosted
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and divided
Tumblr media
Directions
Active: 30 mins|Total: 1 hour
Position a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil until it shimmers. Add the onion and saute until translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the broccoli and salt and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until tender but still bright green, about 8 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Stir in the breadcrumbs, cheese and lemon juice. Taste, and season with pepper and additional salt, if desired. Let cool while you prepare the phyllo.
On a large, clean surface unroll the phyllo and cover it with a damp kitchen towel so it doesn’t dry out. Working quickly, pull two sheets off the stack, lay them so the wider side is facing you, and gently brush them with melted butter.
Lay another two sheets on top, and brush them with melted butter. Repeat with the remaining 4 sheets.
Using a large spoon, scoop the broccoli mixture into a line lengthwise near the edge of the phyllo closest to you, leaving an approximately 1-inch border on each end. Fold the short sides of the phyllo in and over the filling, and then roll the filling up in the phyllo, forming a 3-by-12-inch log.
Place the log, seam side down, on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top and sides of the strudel with more melted butter and, using a sharp knife, cut four diagonal slits into the top of the strudel to allow steam to escape. Bake for 30 minutes, or until deep golden brown and crisp. Cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before slicing and serving.
Storage: Refrigerate for up to 4 days, or freeze for 1 month.
Adapted from “The Moosewood Cookbook” by Mollie Katzen (Ten Speed, 1977).

The non-dairy milk market goes pea-shaped
With regards to non-dairy milk, there is more decision than any other time in recent memory from retailers. The majority of these sans dairy drinks are made of nuts or soy so the individuals who experience the ill effects of dairy, nut and soy sensitivities have no other appropriate other option.
In 2016, US-based Wave sent off the very first pea milk. In only one year, Wave has sold 2.5 million containers of pea milk and created $20m in income. This reflects how large the demand is for without dairy options. This achievement has drawn in one more American organization, Dairy and Soy Food Market Bolthouse Homesteads, to enter the specialty market for pea milk. The two producers offer their non-dairy milk items with various flavors, like chocolate and vanilla, to make their items seriously engaging.
The beverage is made of yellow split peas which are processed into flour, then that flour is handled to isolate the pea protein from the fiber and starch. The pea protein gets mixed along with water and sunflower oil, ocean salt and nutrients. For more insights on the dairy & soy food market forecast, download a free report sample
As per GlobalData buyer review (from Q3 2016), 18% of shoppers in the US attempt to restrict their dairy consumption and 6% keep away from this fixing completely. In that capacity, makers are growing new sans dairy items to focus on the people who keep away from dairy for wellbeing reasons or as a direction for living. As of late, we have seen the send off of many plant-based items to take advantage of buyers' rising worries about their own wellbeing as well as creature government assistance.
Buyers presently have a large number of creature free items to browse, for example, plant-based burgers, treats, beverages and bites. These creative items offer choices to meet customers' wellbeing or way of life demands.
Makers that are keen on taking advantage of this specialty market need to adopt a profoundly imaginative strategy towards growing new liberated from items by utilizing fixings known for their medical advantages and great taste.

Dream's discord podcast. Basically him answering questions for 2.5 hours. This will sort of be in order but I fucked up my notes so it might not be in order completely. (From 13th May 2021)
For reference the photos at the end are: A prototype of fidget spinner merch as loads of people asked, a reference photo of his favourite merch and a photo he sent of his hair to prove he wasn't a brunette.
•He said his teeth are mostly straight but he's thought about getting Invisalign. He's never had braces. He has a tiny gap in the left side of his mouth and his canines are longer and sharper (vampire arc). He's never had teeth surgery so has his wisdom teeth still.
•He thinks pineapple on pizza is good.
•He likes seafood like lobster and crab. He had crab made in an air fryer last night. He like peas. He thinks quesadillas are good and likes most food.
•He hates Coffee and most drinks
•The Dream Shorts team is Ken who is his personal reminder (Ken's main job is to spam him with texts so he doesn't forget things as he's got a habit of reading texts and not replying) and also comes up with a list of sets for Dream shorts. The builder is a friend and munchymc builder "his talent gets wasted on Dream's shorts but we pay him so"
•His editors are currently Dizzy, Firesale and Mjcr. Willz doesn't edit for him anymore
•The mask animation isn't done but Mask should be released May 21st. He wants to release them together as "the whole song is a double meaning and the whole nuance will be lost without the animation" but no matter if the animation is done the song is getting released on the 21st.
•He and Sapnap eat together often.
•He and Sapnap prefer medium rare Steak
•He wants a home gym it's something he's willing to splurge on. They currently have a weight rack but they haven't even set it up.
•"Eat the rich? Shut up shut up" - Dream
•Talked about money basically saying "Most people don't understand how money works I don't have millions in my bank account it's in assets like merch, land and warehousing for that stuff" (He's not in his landlord arc)
•He's been debating Pride Merch because of Rainbow Capitalism. He doesn't want it too be seen as a money maker and if he does most proceeds would go to charity. He's currently super busy merch wise with Sapnap joining and George in the middle of joining. He did say "Only if the LGBTQ+ community in this community wants it" He thinks he's going to at least change the merch website to a pride one. Sapnap wants to make pride merch including a rainbow flame on his.
•He wants to create a charity that's centered around helping LGBTQ+ one day because he thinks that there's a lack of them. He mentioned that creating a charity was expensive and took a lot and was a complicated process including a board of directors but he wants to do it someday.
•He wanted to buy a bunch of houses in Florida which was a service to house mostly LGBTQ+ youth and people stuck in abusive households for free to get them out of bad home environments. But he didn't because he didn't want people thinking he was profiting of of abuse victims and LGBTQ+ community.
•He said he's terrible with time management and replying to people which is why Ken helps him (and also helps George and Sapnap). He mentioned how Sam messaged multiple times and Dream just forgot to answer but felt bad "I feel like people think I hate them..... Cause I'd be mad if people did that to me"
•He tries to reply to a few texts a day (community number). He also can't do birthday messages everyday because you can only reply at certain times so it's not abusing the system so if you get one it's special. He said he does try but it's got a weird time gap.
•Him and the manhunt winner are trying to come up with a good time to film
•He wants to stream this MCC on twitch and says his team is good.
•He talks about why he's not partnered with Twitch. Basically Twitch has a lock rate (in which you make money) and you legally can't stream on YouTube. So legally if Tommy wanted to stream on YouTube he couldn't. Someone then mentioned how Bad is a twitch partner but still streams on YouTube "Bad streams on YouTube but he has for a while and I don't think that he cares" - Dream
•He likes to reply to every donation he gets on stream and feels bad when he doesn't so he'll turn them off when he streams and wants a platform deal where he can be payed to stream (not twitch). If he gets a streaming partnership he will stream a couple of times a week. He looked in to Facebook but they don't have an alias system meaning you can see everyone's actual Facebook account and personal info, he doesn't like seeing real names on Facebook so it would require a lot of altering if he was to stream there so he's thinking it's probably going to be YouTube.
•He was asked about if his demographic was what he expected and he said he went in with no expectations, he didn't even know what stans were, wasn't really on social media so he wasn't aware of the fan culture. "You guys are a handful sometimes but it's worth it"
•He also mentioned how he and the DreamSMP changed the twitch audience demographic. It used to be male dominated in both streamers and audience and now it's almost split which is unheard on.
•He has 5 fidget spinners in his house. Two in his bedroom. Two in his office. One in the living room.
•He likes his Minecraft skin as he thinks the arm is cook and you never see the rest of his skin really. He says it's unique and different and "me". Dream: You can't even tell half the skins apart on MC.
•He's not lost the motivation to stream. Most of the times if he wants to stream he gets George or Sapnap to do it and he just turns up. It's more beneficial to them as they have donos and subs on. (Don't we fucking know it "can you say hi to")
•He has listened to Lovejoy. Says the ep was great and they're very talented and awesome. Doesn't know what his favourite song is but probably would pick One Day because the chorus slaps.
•RIP to acoustic Roadtrip. He said instead of acoustic Roadtrip we get Mask so no losses today for Dream stans.
•"With Roadtrip I went to Parker and I said Hey I have a story I want to tell through music. I have no experience with that can you help me" He said sure. He crafted the music and melodies and how things are formed where it's catchy. I have less comfort singing that. I love the song and it's my song, it's very representative of me and I'm sure I could sing it but it's a song I'd be kinds of scared to sing live, with Mask I basically did everything. I sat there the entire time and maybe an hour out if the 100 I wasn't in the call. Dream came up with the lyrics and main melody for Mask (First one he's ever come up with) "That was just notes in my fucking voice memos"
•The clip we heard of Mask was a prechorus not the actual chorus. He thinks he'd be more comfortable to do a mask acoustic and it's more melodic than Roadtrip. The chorus also has a lot of instruments similar to Roadtrip. Mask starts of slow and guitar with minimal reverb and is more raw.
• He doesn't want music to be his main thing. It's something fun to do and he's passionate about it as it's a way to express emotions. He wants to release mask then go from there. He wants to release at least one more song but has nothing on his mind currently. His two ideas were Roadtrip and Mask.
•He wouldn't quit his job to become a pizza delivery man.
•His favourite features on himself are eyes or freckles and he also confirmed that he does have eyebrows.
•He was told that Parkour warrior would be bought back some time in the near future and he got excited for it. "Even if I don't win, which I will, it'll be fun"
•Went on about his MCC team but I'm not going to put that in as we should be getting them today. He did say he wasn't on Pink but he did sound confused. (For reference he's always in Pink as it's the last team announced and keeps the hype up by announcing the biggest streamer last)
•Said he and his mum had the Mr Beast burger. He recommends because he likes the avacado. He mentioned how Mr Beast uses "Ghost Kitchens" which is basically where he gives restaurants permission to cook his food so it's restaurant quality food.
•His favourite piece of merch is the circle smile. (The pool photo on Instagram). He said the quality was bad (he worked with a different company and didn't have his own company) and it was elasticy feeling and he's planning on re-releasing it again but with good quality.
•He's started to send merch out in custom packaging. So his bags have the smile and will mostly be green. Sapnap's has the flame and is either black or white. He's also trying to make it so every order has the sticker packs for both him and Sapnap.
•He loves the coins as it's cheaper than a hoodie but still celebrates the milestones and will last a long time. He mentioned how the old coins are getting removed off the site and how if you have any of the coins your special because only a few thousand get made. He's kept around 100 of each coin that he wants to give away in person.
•He wanted to have a cool store where you could access computers that give you access to the DreamSMP in spectator mode. But it's too costly and would require too much time and isn't safe fight now. He doesn't think it'd be worth it financially.
•Most of the hoodie are black instead of multiple colours because of limited supply and covid. Getting the colours are harder because if the pandemic which hopefully won't be an issue soon.
•He wants to do a short meetup tour with Sapnap and George with a few locations in the US (and if others nearby want to join like Quackity or Karl they can). He also wants to visit Australia, UK, Canada, Mexico and Philippines and do something like that there but definitely at least visit with George and Sapnap.
•He's never been to the Philippines but his mum has. He wants to set up a place in the Philippines where he can ship merch in bulk and it would help to reduce shipping. However it would probably be big milestone merch.
•He's not got the vaccine yet but will get it when he needs to. He doesn't leave the house so he doesn't see the point.
•He's the ideas man. George's footcam video was Dream's idea. The T-shirt video was Dream's idea. Most if not all of the Dream Team's videos are Dream's ideas.
•Said he's got a similar/the same hair colour as Froy (Dream buddy at this point the only difference between you and Froy is that one of you is dating Richard Madden /lh)

REDACTED verse - Another day in Dahlia
Summary: When worlds collide, Aaron and Smartass has the ‘old, married couple’ moment when a wolf is loose in a hypermarket.
-
Dahlia is lively today, the afternoon sunlight dazzling upon the city. Familiar faces, familiar sights and familiar roads are everywhere.
And yet, the man who couldn’t stop bickering with his lover since the two of them stepped out of IKEA is a changing man living in this familiar city.
Aaron likes to think that he retains his best qualities despite the passing of time. Firm, true and level-headed - traits that have served him well both in his personal and work life. Traits that have earned him recognition, achievements and praises. However, against a fiery soul housed within an infuriating yet gorgeous body, Aaron has never felt so breathless and helpless.
And most importantly, lovestruck.
Unstable and uncharacteristically hesitant, the pieces of himself that are held together with patience have been pulled apart by its seams. But they weren’t destroyed; no, they rearrange themselves into an amazing new form. Aaron isn’t quite yet certain what that new form brings, but already, he could feel himself grow into a man that wholly compliments his lover.
Like a planet revolving around a beautiful, bright star. He can’t help but be drawn by the star’s gravity.
There’s balance between them, despite their strong-willed personalities. They sooth the other when one burns too brightly, they offer guidance when the other is unsure. Balanced and happy, that’s what they are.
There’s never emptiness when silence envelops them. Isn’t there a saying that whenever you’re with your loved one, silence is never oppressive?
Although, to be fair, silence doesn’t last long whenever they’re together. Not when there’s always something to bicker, something to discuss and something to tease about.
Case in point, the ugly as fuck lamp that Aaron fought tooth and nail to convince his partner not to buy.
“Look, it’s not even your money; I was going to use mine for it!”
“It’s not about the money, Smartass.” Aaron replies back with a roll of his eyes. They’re at the parking lot getting ready to head off to the hypermarket next. The two of them had spent four hours of furniture shopping at IKEA after his Smartass made an offhand comment last week about his couch being way too old and lumpy for gaming nights and movie marathons.
But before either of them realise it, what was supposed to be a simple couch purchase turned into perusal of dining tables, desks and floor lamps. Aaron got them back on track when you excitedly pulled him towards that last part.
Aaron had never before questioned your taste in furniture before but at that point, he starts to draw the line at a red, human shaped floor lamp. It bows slightly with the most creepy smile he had ever seen on a statue before.
“I just don’t want to have a heart attack everytime I wake up, alright? You wanted it in our bedroom, beside our bed and it’s creepy beyond all reason.”
“It’s functional though.”
“So were the other floor lamps.” Aaron easily pointed out. He opened the car door and waited, unamused, for you to get in. Unfortunately, judging by how your arms folded across your chest in a stubborn pose, his spitfire didn’t want to drop their conversation.
“What if I put it in the living room?” You suggest instead, the familiar defiant spark made itself known.
Aaron held himself back from groaning in despair. Why are you so hung up about that lamp!? “I don’t think it’ll fit with the… aesthetic of our house, OK?” He tried the tactical approach first, knowing that a straight up no would not pacify his partner at all. “How about this; we’ll go with your couch and desk and my preference for the dining table. There. Is that good enough for you, Your Highness?”
You purse your lips, but the both of you know that you’re not so hung up about the floor lamp to drag this argument any further. Aaron wisely chooses not to comment how your lips slowly curve into a smile.
“Fine. I’ll let you win this round - ”
“Oh my god - ”
“But in return, I’ll be taking over for lunch later.”
Aaron immediately shut his mouth, surprise and secretly a little giddy that his Smartass had taken the initiative of making a meal for them. That lasted for about a split second before something dawn onto him.
“You want free reign at the hypermarket later, right?”
This time, you beam happily but say nothing as you finally slip inside of the Mercedes. And as usual, silence spoke louder than words. Aaron exhales loudly, not knowing whether to laugh or mutter a curse. Trust in his lover to have the final say, ultimately.
But that’s one of the many reasons why he fell so hopelessly in love with you.
-
The hypermarket is busy for a Saturday. Smartass pointed at the sales and promotions board display in big letters and numbers when the two of you entered the building, hand in hand. Ah, that makes sense. Children run about clutching snacks in their little hands to convince their exasperated parents into buying, worned out staff restock empty shelves and the scent of fresh produce and floor detergents clings in the air. A familiar sight.
“How do you feel about crabs?” Smartass begins the conversation. Aaron doesn’t understand why you bother asking him when you’re already dragging him towards the cold, seafood area. Aisles of fresh fish of all kinds are clearly displayed for visitors, the more expensive kind are packaged and a few men are working behind the butcher service counter.
“I can go for some crabs. It’s been a while anyway.” Aaron answered, grabbing a nearby stack of baskets for their grocery. He tried to recall the last time they had any seafood and his mind helpfully supplied a restaurant where they went to for dinner in March.
He lets you gather your thoughts as you stare at the frozen crabs critically as if they were spreadsheets. “I’m thinking of rice with a side of buttery crab meats, Salmon sashimi, Shiitake soup and lotus root salad. Sounds good?”
As soon as he invited his Smartass to permanently move in with him, you had totally taken over the kitchen. Apparently you weren’t terribly amused when he admitted that he’s not much of a cook but hey, he never once complained when you served the best homemade vegan burgers with a glare and a silent, “Go ahead. I dare you to say that they taste like shit. Make my day, Aaron.”
So instead, after he cleaned their dishes, Aaron proceeded to throw his lover on their bed to thoroughly thank you for the meal.
Four hours later, the flushed and surprised expression on your face was so worth it.
But we’re getting off tangents here.
“Sounds absolutely delicious.” Aaron replied and startled his Smartass with a sudden kiss on your cheek. “Now stop glaring at the crabs and pick some already. We have half of the ingredients back home and I’d rather not spend the rest of our remaining Saturday in the hypermarket. So let’s get to it.”
Smartass hum in agreement and grab your own basket. Together, they made quick work of what they needed to buy. Not just for lunch, but for the upcoming weeks too. Crabs, Salmons, some meat and later pea sprouts, red cabbages and lotus root - the both of them are more inclined to healthy meals rather than take outs and it really helps that Smartass suggest preparing ingredients that they could cook for the rest of the week, given their busy work lives. Vegetable dishes are flexible and easy enough to cook into anything anyway.
They moved on from the frozen, seafood aisles and the produce section to where the personal care products are. Aaron holds up his phone in between them so Smartass could check what’s next on the list.
“Oh shit. I totally forgot that my shampoo and conditioners just ran out.” Smartass blurted. “Thanks for adding that into our grocery list.”
Aaron scoffs. “You mentioned it twice during dinner last night - in between debating whether or not Game of Thrones is better than Lord of the Rings, mind you - so I can understand why you forgot” Colourful rows of shampoo bottles greeted them when they walk past a couple who’s pushing their trolley carts away from the shelves. He grabs your favourite brand and places them in his basket. “You’re brilliant, Smartass, but I can’t help pity that poor hamster living in your brain for having to run in its ball all day long.”
You gasp, affronted, while Aaron laughs at the look on your face. Even smacking his arm did nothing to stop his laughter. “You’re too easy to rile up sometimes, you know that Smartass?” He smirks and grabs a toothpaste next. They’re running low on that too. In retaliation for his remark, Smartass sneakily pulled that toothpaste out when Aaron was checking his phone and chose the one with the strawberry flavour instead.
When Aaron shot you an inquisitive look, you just smiled innocently and quickly distracted him by insisting that they need to get some snacks.
“That reminds me, it’s not on the list but we have to buy ramune soda. Oh, and some potato chips too.” You pointed out as the two of you rounded away from a large family who stopped in between the body wash shelves and hair serums. “Have you noticed that we go through ramune sodas like crazy lately?”
The snacks and beverage section is one of the highlights of this hypermarket, in Aaron’s humble opinion. Not only do they have an abundance of the local goods, they also have a wide selection of some really good imported snacks or as Aaon like to call it, your ultimate weakness.
“Yeah but be honest, are you really going to stop your addiction anytime soon?”
“What is this? Bully me day?”
“Hey, you’re the one who said it, not me, Smartass.” Aaron is quick to quip back and this time, you roll your eyes. Even if it’s true, it doesn’t mean that you have to like it.
But that’s Aaron - his words always serve a meaning and come straight from the heart when it’s for the things that truly matter. It’s annoying and yet, it’s one of his best qualities.
However, just as you were about to rebuke him, the two of you heard a passing conversation nearby the soda shelves.
“ - not going to play bartender at home again, Angel. Why not? Alright then; let me jog your memory, hmm? The last time I left you alone in the kitchen for more than 3 hours, you came out carrying a tray with the embodiment of everything unholy on this planet separated into three shot glasses.”
“It was just ramune soda mixed with rose syrup, grass jelly and vinegar!”
“Asher had a stomach ache for a week, Angel.”
“But Davey, how do you expect me to get better at it if you don’t let me practice? See? There’s a flaw in your plan!”
“I’d rather we go to a bar the next time you’re in the mood to poison the both of us.”
You didn’t mean to eavesdrop on their conversation but you couldn’t help snicker at the stranger’s very much put out and deadpan tone. It gives an implication that this isn’t the first time this ‘Angel’ did something as crazy as mix sodas with vinegar. Hell, even the man’s comment earned a soft chuckle from Aaron.
“Sounds like he got quite a handful lover over there. Remind you of someone?” Aaron whispered. They couldn’t properly see the couple due to a stack of Dorito boxes in between them but you could spot a tall man wearing a pretty nice looking leather jacket and his partner beside him.
“If you’re implying that I’m unreasonably difficult - ”
“No, no. Just… hmm, passionately stubborn, I suppose.” Aaron nonchalantly replies with a smirk. He guffaws when you poke at his sides and spin around to the rows of ramune with a dramatic huff. Aaron easily follows suit with a fond smile.
This section of the aisle is quiet unlike the previous ones that’ve been, Aaron noticed. The humming of the air conditioner above them and the crinkling of a plastic bag of chips in Smartass’ hand were the only sounds that broke the comfortable silence. Even the murmurs from the other couple melts into background noises the further Aaron and his walk away.
That is, until a hair-raising snarl shattered the quietness.
What’s worse, it sounded like a wolf.
Aaron reacted instinctively. He opted for the defense - grabbing his Smartass’ free hand, pulling you close to him. His searching eyes are frantic while his mind is trying to make sense that a wolf is somehow in this hypermarket. Full of people. What the fuck!?
Smartass, however, opted for the offense. You grab the nearest glass bottle by the neck and were about to smash it against the metal shelf if it weren’t for Aaron’s quick thinking. He immediately grabs your wrist and shoots you an incredulous look. Silently judging your choices in life.
‘You have a better idea on how to deal with a fucking wolf!?’ Smartass demanded in silence. Your expression is bewildered; as if you couldn’t believe that Aaron wouldn’t let you shank an unknown threat just around the corner.
In return, Aaron pulls you closer to his body and glares out, ‘I’m not letting you throw yourself in front of a wolf!’
‘I’m protecting us!’ Smartass countered back, glaring just as heatedly.
A sweet giggle suddenly interrupted their mental argument. Their hearts skip a beat in fear at the unknown.
“Ok, ok. How about this, Davey: I'll let you dress me up when we go to the bar tomorrow. How’s that? Does that make my Wolf not jealous anymore?” The same voice they accidentally eavesdropped previously bargained in a teasing tone.
Smartass and Aaron exchange a bewildered and confused glance. What the fuck did they just said? My Wolf? Was the realistic animal snarl came from the boyfriend!? He must’ve some serious vocal cords and throat to be able to make that sound!
Aaron exhales loudly while Smartass allows him to grab the glass bottle that you were still holding to put it back on the shelf.
“I think I just lost five years of my life.” Aaron complains.
Smartass said nothing. Without even saying anything, you march to where the couple are. Aaron curses under his breath and quickly chases after you.
The man in the black leather jacket and his partner glanced at his Smartass when you approached them with a practised smile. One that Aaron knew meant trouble. How could he not when he’s the receiving end of that smile more than he could count.
When Smartass wants answers, you’ll do everything in your power to get it and Aaron is really not looking forward to wrangling his partner from starting a brawl in the middle of a damn hypermarket.
“Hi there.” His Smartass began, your body language deceptively open and friendly. “Are you two alright?”
“Eh?” The one standing beside the tall, frowning man replies with a blink. Upon closer inspection, Aaron realises that he and what looks to be the leader of a local gang are similar in built.
“Can we help you?” The gang leader interjects. He’s frowning but he doesn’t appear angry. Just confused like his partner. Though he nodded in greeting when Aaron slid up beside Smartass.
“Didn’t you hear that noise just now?” Smartass plays shock. “It sounded like someone released a wolf in the hypermarket!”
The man in the leather jacket suddenly looked like he just sucked a lemon; his eyes are comically wide. Meanwhile, his partner’s eyes are equally as wide. Aaron detects a hint of realisation glint in their eyes. Now isn’t that interesting?
Well, Smartass thought so too. You pressed on. “You heard it too right? Damn near give me a heart attack! I wonder if the nearby staff also heard it - ”
“It’s probably the ventilation system or something.” The gang leader quickly replied, his expression oddly shifted to neutral. Beside him, his partner opens their mouth to say something but he quickly presses his palm over it. They throw a pointed look at him but he resolutely ignores it. “Anyway, good luck with your grocery shopping.”
Aaron watches him grab his partner by the hand and gently drag them away. It was only when they’re out of sight that they started furiously chatting.
“Wow, Davey, your slip up was even worse than Asher’s!”
“We’re so not telling him about this, Angel.”
“...Does this mean I can tell Babe instead?”
“Wha - No, that wasn’t an invitation to tell his Mate!”
Aaron turns to Smartass who just shrugs. Neither of them could figure out what just happened. He’s just glad that you let them escape.
“Maybe they have some really kinky roleplaying thing going on.” Smartass guessed, wiggling your eyebrows suggestively.
Aaron runs his palm down his face in exasperation. “I don’t give a shit, Smartass. Can we please just finish up our grocery shopping already? I’m starting to get hungry.”
“Alright, alright. We just have to grab a few more things and then we can pay.” Smartass assured him and off they continued on their way.
Though neither of them still couldn’t help but wonder how the hell that man managed to sound like a wolf so accurately.
Kinky roleplay or not.
-
I’m tentatively planning to make this into a mini series including the rest of the non-empowered characters with their lovers. I’m already writing for Oliver and Baby so we’ll see how that goes!

Bruh, imagine the family (and the Shaw fam) are having a barbeque and Owen samples the food first, not knowing the family tradition. So he says something like Jesse's prayer, "I'm thankful for juicy hamburgers, incompetent cops, and... *muttered quietly* family..." And the fam's like whatdidhesayy 😂
Friend, if there was ever anything that's passed through my inbox that I think would he 100% canon, it's this
If the FF writers ever wanted to make Owen a member of the crew, they would absolutely, without a doubt, have this scene
I feel it in my bones
~~~
Sitting down next to Roman, Owen eyed the large display of food across the table. He could almost feel himself licking his lips at the sight
All around Owen, his family was sitting down with the Toretto crew
At the head of the table sat Dom and Letty, who were both fussing over Baby Brian and making sure he didn't dirty the new outfit Deckard had bought for him
Meanwhile, across from Owen were Hattie and Ramsey, who were in a heated debate over a new piece of technology that had yet to hit the market
Further down, Brian was trying to get Jack and May to sit down, but they kept refusing and stayed firmly under the table
Chuckling, Owen looked towards the other end of the table. Tej was pressing Luke on all the car knowledge the man had. However, Luke was smirking up a storm and refusing to say much while Sam giggled next to him
Suddenly, his attention was caught by Deckard placing the last of the corn on the cob on the table. Mai placed several condiments next to the huge plate of burgers and sat down next to Brian, easily coaxing her children from under the table
Eyeing the ribs Deckard had spent hours cooking, Owen snatched one up
"A-ha!" Brian shouted out. "He took the first bite!"
Blinking, Owen went stiff and glanced over at Roman, who was had a huge grin splitting his face
"He's right, babe." Roman said mischievously
"What?" Owen frowned
"Whoever takes the first bite, says grace." Dom called out, his own smug smirk fixed on his face. Next to him, Letty was trying to stiffle her giggles
"Are you bloody kidding me?" Owen glared at the couple
"Family tradition." Mia said in a sing-song like voice. Narrowing his eyes at her, Owen could see she was relishing in this
Looking around the whole table, he was getting similar shit eating grins from the crew. His siblings just shrugged at him
Rolling his eyes, Owen let out a huff
"Fine."
Taking Roman's and Letty's hands in his, Owen waited until everyone's hands were linked
Bowing his head, Owen started to say grace
"We're gathered here, and all thankful for the incompetent idiots who can never arrest us,"
He could hear several chuckles at that and knew he received a few eye rolls as well
"We're thankful that both Deck and Mia took it upon themselves to feed us,"
"At least someone's grateful." Mia mumbled
"And ultimately, we're thankful for..." pausing, Owen could feel his face heat up, and he finished in a mumble. "Such a wonderful family like this one."
Pulling his hands away, Owen kept his eyes firmly on the table
"What? What'd he say?" Brian said loudly. "I think you need to do that again, Shaw."
"Yeah, Oh." Letty laughed. "Usually you love being loud!"
Owen glared at them both
"C'mon," Dom chuckled. "Give the man a break."
Owen sent Dom a grateful look
"It's not everyday we get to hear him come off his high horse, after all." Dom finished, smirking at Owen
Who promptly threw a roll at his head
"Oi! No throwing food!" Deckard shouted
That didn't stop Dom from launching a spoonful of peas at Owen's face
Sputtering, Owen couldn't help the laugh that escaped him
He might never have envisioned being part of this family
But he would do anything in the world to keep them by his side
~~~
I hope you enjoyed friend!
