Ok, idc how wrong of a theory it is that Rayleigh is Mihawk's dad but i'm obsessed with the fact that Mihawk probably didnt get to see much of his dad while growing up because of his pirate life.
And on the rare occasions when he gets to see him, he's constantly sulky because Rayleigh keeps talking about these two other kids that he adopted with his captain and how "You would totally love Shanks and Buggy, Hawks. They are trouble makers but i'm sure you would get along!"
And Mihawk isn't so sure he would love the kids that stole his dad from him so he just humphs his way out of the conversation everytime. He did ask his dad to take him with him on his adventures since it's kids safe (he's bound to think that when there are two kids, younger than him, parading on the ship) but Rayleigh always refuses because he wants his son to live away from piracy, an honest and safe life.
(Except, joke's on him. Mihawk had his rebellion phase and said fuck you, dad! Discovered his obsession with swords and went on his own adventures.)
Fastforward, post Roger's execution, Mihawk meets Shanks for the first time and the bitter feelings he had from his childhood resurface and he's full on grudge and salty so he challenges him to a duel to kick his ass. Except, to his surprise, Shanks is actually a decent opponent and instead of wanting to kick his ass, he relishes in the fact that he finally found someone that keeps up with him, so he keeps coming back asking for more duels.
On the other hand, Shanks sees this dark haired guy with magnificent yellow eyes and he knows him, he knows him from his bounty posters and because Rayleigh has spoken few times when he cameback to the crew from his short family visits about his stubborn son, and he wonders if Mihawk knows him or if the guy just randomly challenges people with no regard to his life.
Obviously, to no one's surprise he falls in love mid fight, with the sassy quips (now he confirmed that Mihawk does in fact know him and he does seem angry about something) the audacity to roll his eyes in the middle of a fight and he's absolutely breathtaking with a sword in his hands. Shanks wants to impress him no matter what since this guy seems to genuinely be onto the fight and ignoring his flirty comments. He figured he did impress him a bit, if the way that Mihawk said they'd meet soon again is anything to go by.
Bonus:
Mihawk took an immediate like to Buggy when he met him but he refuses to admit it to anyone ever, especially not the clown himself but he does enjoy teasing Shanks that Buggy was much easier to "tolerate" first, just to get a raise out of him.
+
Rayleigh is totally against two of his boys dating each other but Mihawk keeps telling him off ("You were barely ever here for me as a dad, you don't get to boss me around!") and Shanks is too busy being heart eyes to listen to any word coming from the man. At the end, he just ends up giving both of them the shovel talk.

next
“Doctor?” You stood there, frozen in your spot as you stared at Myra through the window. You had kind of forgotten all about her over the last few weeks, being too busy to really think about everything that’s happened. Now, it all came flooding back. You felt like you were drowning.
“Doctor!” Toko’s voice rang through your mind, ripping you from your thoughts and back into reality. You looked down at her and you could see the concern in her eyes. You looked over to see Hiyori also looking at you with a concerned expression. “Are you alright?”
You sniffled and nodded. “Ah, yeah. I’m just fine.” You cleared your throat.
“So, do you know them?”
You looked back at Toko and nodded. “Yes. I do. We used to work together.”
“You’re not friends though?” You shook your head. “She…” You paused, not even knowing if you should tell Toko this.
“Shall we send her away?” You looked at Hiyori before looking at Myra once more. Your chest hurt, but you also felt anger deep down. You supposed that this was the universe making you deal with something you had originally planned on just leaving alone. Fate could be cruel.
You shook your head. “I suppose that this is something I need to face head on.” You looked at the two of them. “Thank you both for your concern.” They might not have outwardly voiced it, but you could hear it in their tones and faces.
“I’ll take care of this.”
--
“What the hell are you doing here?” Myra and you were in your lab now. You folded your hands across your chest and locked the lab door. You were shooting daggers at her - if only looks could kill.
“I’m here to help you with your research.”
Huh? You narrowed your eyes at her, stepping towards her. “And how would you know what I’m doing here?”
She blinked, pursing her lips. “A little bird told me.” Ah, her messenger bird you’d seen during the battle? It was still here?
“And what makes you think I’d want to see your face?”
Myra gave you a blank expression. “I’m not sure what you mean? I thought you’d be happy to see me.”
You walked over to her and her eyes widened, backing away until she couldn’t anymore. “You can’t lie your way out of this one - I know everything.”
She pursed her lips and stared at you. You could see the guilt in her eyes, but you weren’t falling for it. You were angry at the pain and hurt that she had caused for those you held most dear. You weren’t going to let her out of it just because she batted her eyelashes and flashed some puppy dog eyes.
“I’m just trying to repent for what I’ve done,” she said with a sigh. However, her words didn’t feel very sentimental, so you weren’t sure what her ulterior motive was - or if she was telling the truth.
You couldn’t help but chuckle at her words. You shook your head. For a moment, you wonder how many people she’d done it to. How many people has she manipulated into joining her on her island? “Being righteous isn’t quite enough,” you said with a shake of your head. You backed off of her, going to your desk as you thought for a moment.
“But, I will accept your help. Only because two heads is better than one. I’ll be the one using you this time,” you said, glaring at her. Myra pursed her lips once more and nodded solemnly. “Fair enough.”
You turned to her once more. “Know this - this is not me forgiving you. I won’t pretend that I’m not disgusted with everything you are. I won’t deny that I’m revolted by everything you say you stand for.” Lies and manipulation. There was nothing more you hated more than someone who lied. Especially someone who lied for no reason.
You walked over to her again, glaring right into her very soul. “Oh, I swear - it’s the last fucking time that I let you let me down too, so you better keep up, Myra.” She just stared at you with wide eyes that were in pure fear. She was terrified of you - as she should be. She poked the beast and now you were lashing out.
You took a deep breath, walking away from her. You were seething. You needed a moment out of this lab. Without another word you marched right out of the room and headed out of the building. You plopped down on the ground outside and let out a large sigh.
You closed your eyes and leaned against the wall. You felt that numbness come back again, washing over your whole being. The emptiness inside - just like when you first learned of her betrayal. You’d fallen for her disguise, thought she was doing you a favor by letting you stay on that island. As your memories resurfaced, you could feel them dragging you under.
“Everything alright, y/n?” You opened your eyes, slowly coming from your sea of thoughts as you focused on the figure in front of you. “Hiyori.” You blinked and shrugged. “As good as it can be.”
“You seemed stressed. Was she not a friend after all?” You sighed, thinking for a moment. You shook your head. “She…betrayed me.” You gave her a quick summary of what happened. The woman listened to you, nodding along.
“Well, I can see why you’re so upset. Are you going to let her stay and help?”
You nodded. “Yes, because even if she’s the worst, she is brilliant. Both of us working on this is better than just me. We could at least get things done faster and…we did end up working well together when we were together.” You sighed, running a hand through your hair. “It’s just, she seems so unbothered by everything despite her somewhat apologizing? And I’m here drowning in my own fucking mind, but I’ll be damned if I let her be the death of me,” you grumbled. You were just rambling at this point, the words pouring out before you really thought about them.
“You don’t have to put yourself through that, though.” You just looked at her for a moment. A small smile spread across your face. “Look who’s talking. You forget all the things you put yourself through for those you cared about?” Her cheeks darkened and you laughed.
“I’m willing to do anything to help those I care about, okay? I’m doing this for your people - for Toko.”
A small, knowing smile spread across her face. “And that vice captain from your crew?” Your eyes widened at her and she laughed. “Oh, I saw everything at the festival.” Everything? Hardly anything happened as far as you were aware! Sure, his hand was on your thigh the whole time, but that was…how the hell did she see that?
Hiyori laughed at your reaction, clearly pleased with herself. “You two clearly care for each other. You seem to have that…” She thought for a moment. “You guys give off the vibe of a very happy couple that’s been married for a very long time.” You could feel your face growing more and more red by the second. “Just happy being in each other’s presence, not having to do anything but exist next to each other-”
“Okay, I get it.” You hid your face in your hands as she laughed even more. She wasn’t completely wrong. Killer always kept you calm, you were always more balanced when he was around. You were more than content to just…exist next to him. After a moment, she looked at you. “How long?”
“How long what?” you grumbled into your hands.
“How long have the two of you been an item?”
You looked at her through your hands. “We haven’t?” You narrowed your eyes at her, you face feeling like it was on fire.
Hiyori blinked as the situation seemed to sink in. Her eyes grew wide and she laughed again. “Oh, that’s absolutely hysterical!” She covered her mouth as she laughed and you buried your face again. “Hiyori~!” you whined.
“Okay, okay. I’ll cease. Oh, but that’s too cute. You two clearly like each other, I don’t know why nothing has come from it yet. Especially how it seems that your brother knows.”
You stopped, looking at her fully this time as you took your head out of your hands. “I’m sorry, huh?” You blinked. Your brother knows? Know what?
Hiyori just smiled at you. “It’s clear he’s on team whatever you two are going to have going on in the near future. I saw the looks of fondness he gave the two of you. Despite all his boisterous conversation at all the other times.”
You just stared at her for a moment. Did your brother fucking know? Now you were even more curious what Killer apparently needed to talk to you about. For fuck’s sake. This was getting all convoluted. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes.
“Well, whatever happens - make sure you invite me to your wedding,” Hiyori said with a smirk and you stared at her. Your face felt like it was on fire and you couldn’t help but burst into laughter. You had no idea what fantasy land she was in, but you wished you were there with her.
After a bit more talking, you decided to head inside and face this whole thing head on. You had people counting on you and you weren’t about to let them down.
