i dont know if anyone has thought of this yet but i finished spn last night and well yeah

SO cas' true moment of happiness is in being, right? he said to dean 'i heard your prayer' cuz he knew that if dean said something, he'll be taken away at the wrong time. we know this.

but what if? what if the moment cas says 'goodbye dean' and pushes him out of the way, THE moment his bloody hand stains the green army jacket, dean doesn't just moves? he anchors his feet down. by now, cas' tears are streaming down his face because the empty is here, he sees the black goo coming out the wall and dean, still beautiful, still dean winchester, is here and he. won't. move.

but cas is happy. he finally admitted it but then dean surges forward pulling cas in by the trenchcoat and kisses the life out of him. and cas is happy. he's so fucking happy. and then it's followed by instant fucking regret because dean feels the same. cas has known for a while (by a while i mean 12 years) but he admitted it, actually made a move. but then it's immediately followed by 'i'll have to leave him. again.' it's followed by regret. everything has turned to shit and this he knows.

but the empty is here. and billie is right there but cas is no longer happy. because he knows he can't have dean in this sense. it's pure sorrow, regret, longing. and the Empty stays true to its word.

It takes Billie and leaves these two idiots together. "So that's what you meant in Purgatory?" Dean whispers.

The thing about dean and cas is yea there’s the whole pride and prejudice tenses hand after touching energy but there’s also the casual intimacy of someone you’ve known for a decade. They literally dig around in each other’s pockets, pull and push each other around to guide each other, even when they were first getting to know each other dean adjusted cas’s tie and collar. They’re far more casually intimate than ppl realize and DEAN in general is far more affectionate and willing to touch than what people give him credit for (including myself but I like to make my little jokey jokes on the internet) he is a tactile and effortlessly affectionate guy and that was one of his downfalls with his dads version of masculinity, one of the things he could just never live up to on a list of things he could never be.

I think people need to understand that Dean's response or lack thereof to Castiel's confession was completely in character.

You cannot expect a man who is affection starved and has been suffering in the conundrum of a violent self loathing having a ship full of insecurities to suddenly accept and reciprocate his feelings to a confession. Dean had no idea what Castiel was gonna do, the empty swallowing him moments after. It isn't fair to expect him to immediately respond to such an unbelievable fact. Because unfortunately for our hunter, it is utterly unbelievable to him.

I feel that scene was done masterfully. The writers knew Dean's psyche, knew how he would react. Ackles's acting only complemented that. It's in the eyes. All in the eyes. Verbal confirmations are good no doubt but sometimes the depth can only be found in the unspoken. If one looks at his posture after Cass's death, the suffocation he exudes, you can hear the desperation to speak, to scream clearly. I loved how Dean's face was transforming with Cass's words.

His 'Don't do this man' was a drowning man clutching at a straw. He couldn't force the words out. It is the stereotypical incoherent illogical and despondent 'No no no no please no' people tend to spew in a childlike hope that negating the ongoing scene would revoke it.

It was no grand confession, no eloquent speech and no way to put into words what he had always felt for his best friend. But then that is the tragedy of their love story isn't it?

Words and a simple exchange of I love you's would've cheapened the moment and oversimplified their feelings.

In my opinion, that scene was perfect.

all last holiday dean wanted was rice krispie treats for his birthday and he got made fun of and then literally died before he could even make it to his next birthday

#he was so close to his birthday too #bc ok we know 100% last holiday takes place in may bc they celebrate both sam and jack’s birthdays #and then i don’t think 15-18 could’ve spanned more than like 2 weeks bc each ep seems to take place pretty directly after the previous #and idk how much time passes in just 15x19 alone but i assume jack would’ve reset the date when bringing everyone back so doesn’t matter #then the finale took place 6 months later #all this to say they defeated chuck may/june so dean died at the end of 2020 before his birthday in january #like the finale ended up airing around the time it would’ve taken place #anyways this is all fake tho bc he’s obviously alive and well and the finale never happened #dean winchester #spn #supernatural

Ever since that day, the day where Dean nearly died for once last final time. He’s been different. Him and Sam had decided that was their last hunt, after weeks in the hospital and that rod leaving a nasty scar on Dean’s back they decided they were done. Dean was forty-one and Sam was thirty-eight, it was time for them to live their lives. Dean at the very least, Sam had a girlfriend for about a year, something he kept on the down low, during their final year of well everything. They moved to the nearby town, just in case a situation had arose, the one that once deemed them mysterious but now treated them like regulars.

Sam had moved in with his girlfriend, Dean getting his own apartment a few streets away. They had some form of peace. Dean became a firefighter, still having that urge to save people. Anyways, there had still been hunters across the country, killing monsters. But as of late Dean’s noticed something, more and more hunters are disappearing and there’s been seemingly more and more cases from the alerts he gets on his computer. Somethings happening. And one night, while out of state visiting an old friend, a man had came to the door, a hunter, covering in blood and god knows what, he was hurt. The injuries looked inconsistent, like a pack of different monsters had done this.

Just a plot I’d love to do! I’m fairly literate I’d say, regularly breaking the discord text limit! My oc is a bottom and I can provide a form for him if needed!

the way it has nothing to do with shipping

dean spent 15 seasons learning that he could be more than a soldier and that maybe he could live a comfortable life without having to sacrifice everything for it. his closest friend reminds him that he isn't daddy's blunt weapon, that he can be more. dean wants to try new things that he thought he couldn't have before - the freedom to be himself.

meanwhile sam was convinced that normal is best, all demons and abnormalities are evil. then he found out that he IS the demon abnormality, he has the autonomy that fought so hard for disrespected and stolen, repeatedly. but despite that, he gradually accepts that he's a damn good hunter and that maybe he can use his knowledge for good! he learns enochian, perfects sigils and exorcisms, and even embraces witchcraft, not because he has to but because he wants to.

cas sacrificed himself so that they could live that life, that even with cas gone they'd still have each other. he trusted them to be able to defeat chuck without him, because he was their family too. it would be worth it.

.... and then suddenly, as if chucks manipulations only stretched back a few years and not literal centuries, dean dies in the way he knew was coming, that he dreaded. a shitty hunters death. all of his character growth, but in the end he was ever allowed to live in the world he'd saved with his family.

and sam had to cope with that. his entire family, gone. he leaves The Life and his former friends. he lives the life he thinks dean wanted for him, blurry wife and all. he doesn't want to go through that pain again, not after having that hope. normal is best.

dean drives in a stupor, for decades until sam dies. showing that he too couldn't cope without slipping into that old role of being sams carer instead of his brother. family doesn't have to be blood, except it does.

cas was there btw, we establsihed that he had made a heroic sacrifice and he was dead dead, but rather than committing to his death, he's mentioned in a throwaway comment. a soldier to heaven once more.

they could have shown us the sam and dean who were able to live without each other and continue to follow their passions, until eventually reuniting in heaven and having tons of proud stories to tell one another as they watch the stars from the impala. the sam and dean who had confidence in the new heaven, that they'd meet again.

i think it could have worked even with deans death, dean meeting his family in heaven and working on the new heavens while sam lives his hunter-witch-father life to the fullest, bobby would be proud and point out that sam was always the smart one (and dean would remind him who his favorite is). sam eventually reaches heaven too and dean is so proud of his little brother for achieving ALL of his dreams. they stand on the bridge, etc etc.
