and i'm to feel normal about the fact that dean personally scattered castiel's ashes??? that he dredged his waning will to wrap castiel's body in shrouds and place him upon the pyre; bearing unwavering witness to his crackling departure? that he was so wayward in his grief as to accept the risk of death; as to inform death herself that he was all but done?? that despite or perhaps in spite of it all, he sought a resting spot that would bring solace to cas?? a field, a windmill, a meadow? that he went alone and decided not to bury but to scatter his ashes!?!! to gift cas peace and freedom as best he could??!!!?!?

WHY at no point in the show's history did my best friend castiel angel of the lord get called a dilf. yeah yeah yeah he got the early seasons pretty boy commentary, mr wisp of an angel dawdling about the twinkish gait of jimmy the salesman I'M TALKING S13 ->>>>>> that gay angel's a FATHER. he's a dad and he's fucking built, okay. he's tired, he's got eyebags, he's got wrinkles, he's juggling all sorts of shit. ongoing divorce, hunt at 3:00pm, pick jack up from the become god at 6:00. he's fuckin broad chest, fitted coat, he drives a truck but let's be honest it's like if a truck were a minivan

forever obsessed with the samdean conjoined twins submotif reiterated throughout and through the means of visualization, symbolism, and text; there's this sheer panic of bodily separation (‘you two are never seeing each other again’ - while shackled in one chain in one cell on one bed; ‘we're in separate rooms?’; banging at the physical and unbodied barriers between them like wild dogs) that bleeds into violence and zeal of the two homogeneous moieties gluing back into one entity, however incongruous and transgressive. transgressive in the sense that this codependency defies expectancy of societal normativity and operates solely in a scope of self- and mutual necessity that turns grotesque, asocial: no, i will not bury my brother's body, says dean, no, i will not burn my brother's body and will preserve it in a casket til he comes back to me, says sam - the idea of flesh rot appears as a wraithlike afterthought irrelevant to their mental corporeal knot. it is also riot against reality. grave will not eat him. death will not take him. demons won't hold us apart. the only association of completeness is related to each other, whether marital, spiritual, or consanguineal, because ultimately the denial, or absence, of any distinction between those is their fusion into synonymity - they are the namesakes of their married grandparents, they were subjected to the embarrassingly blatant realization of being soulmates, ‘i shall be your little brother’ says siren, comingling familial with erotic; ecclesially nuptial, too - spewing oath-confessions in a church. any revolt from either of the halvings against this ingrownness or an attempt for autonomy is stifled by the other until one brother-extremity swallows, subjugates the opposing one, and the pair turns into oneness again: sammy cannot have his own life and his own body and his own sexuality unless it is curated by dean but so is dean cannot have his own thoughts and his own experiences and motifs unless sam is the prime participator, prime confidant, or the object of. there is a dialogue in season iii where sam tells dean that if he cannot save him from death then he has to become dean. if i can't have you through you then i'll have you in me. he resorts to absorption of dean's persona into seity in his denial of separation just because (‘there ain't no me if there ain't no you’). it is a deeply abusive, cannibalistic, intrusive concept that also implies the smothering, terrifying totality of love and all its manifestations both subtle and extreme. it is painful and yet it is not improper because it is sought and anticipated and relished like a final homecoming (‘sam is the age he was when dean died’, ‘like he's been waiting for dean for years...and in a lot of ways he has’). it also happens to be fucking deranged.

the way dean would have been such a good dad. he would have been so terrified he was doing to all wrong, and constantly trying to make sure he didn't turn into his dad. of course he would have his moments, make mistakes and get angry, but all parents do. but you know what he wouldn't do? forget a single birthday or holiday. he wouldn't miss a single ball game, recital, play, or anything between. he would be the type to wear a costume to school drop off if his kids were embarrassed to wear something. he would be so involved in the things they liked. learning about a new video game or movie series that was out. watching youtube videos on how to do hair for ballet. he would give a 30 minute speech before teaching them how to drive in the impala, and wouldn't even get mad if they accidentally slammed on the breaks or ran on the curb (but would frantically check every inch of the car once they got home). he would be the kind of parent he and sammy always wanted.

Thinking about the s11 finale again, and Dean telling Cas to take care of Sam the way biblical stories call for brothers to marry their dead brother's widow. (Sam is the widow, obvs)

OBSESSED with fics where Dean can have entire conversations with Cas through eye contact alone I think we as a society would evolve so much faster and better if we had more fics like that send tweet

Yk what, I am grateful for how mentally ill I am. My crippling disassociative disorder made me forget the first three seasons of supernatural, and now I get to watch it again with no memory of what happened. Who is the villain in season two? No fucking idea and I love it.

Thinking about how everyone always blamed Cas for his choices during the show, but his choices, as dumb or naive or reckless as they were... were the only REAL choices (out of Chuck's control). Cas was learning to excerpt his free will, like a baby learning to walk, and sometimes his choices were stupid, but that's what happens when growing up, you make mistakes and you stumble before you can learn.
And so I'm thinking about how they all made stupid decisions during the years but Cas was always the one blamed for his (more than them). Could this be because the brothers' decisions were actually Chuck's, so he wouldn't let them blame themselves for them, but he would always take the chance to use them to blame Cas for HIS because Cas' choices were out of his control and it was an indirect way to discourage it??? Having Dean excessively blame Cas, so that Cas would feel guilty and stay put.
But Cas kept going every time, following his heart as he kept choosing, he really was the key to defeat Chuck, the crack in Chuck's narrative, and it was his love for Dean that made him crack I CAN'T--

being an absolute and complete nerd is as integral to a reading of dean's character as having a cunty streak is to castiel's

i can't believe castiel hit dean with a "what's the matter?" [leans in close, tilts head] [softly] "you... don't think you deserve to be saved?" ON DAY ONE! DAY ONE! TEN MINUTES INTO DAY ONE!

Loving Human!Cas
Thinking about falling in love with Castiel after he loses his divinity. After he’s been kicked out of the bunker, he loses his best friends, his family, his home, and the man he loves, all in one fell swoop. He’s lost his power, his defense, and he’s lost in a world that wasn’t his home, and he has no one to rely on. Not only that, but he’s learning how to do things that he’s never needed to do before. Eating, drinking, sleeping, even holding a job, just as a means of survival. He’s learning what it’s like to actively live in a human body; to take care of it and survive in it, instead of just inhabiting a body like we would clothing or an apartment.
Falling in love with his quirks and social oddities. Getting to watch iconic movies with him, and enjoy his reactions as he sees them for the first time. Loving him as he struggles with this new, human identity and holding him through the times it all becomes too much. Getting to watch as his self-worth gradually begins to sprout, as he realizes he is priceless because of who he is, not because of what he can offer others. Listening to him talk about things that confuse or enamor him about being a human being. Listening to him talk about the things that make him feel, and getting to see his eyes shine as he takes on a task that he enjoys. Getting to be the person who loves him when he doesn’t feel like he deserves it, and loving him even when he struggles with loving himself. Becoming that comforting safety, that only someone you love can offer, for him.
Loving Cas as he navigates being human would have heartbreak and hardship, but sticking with him and loving him through it would offer loyalty and love that is hard to fathom. The heartbreak of hearing his story, and the way that he was treated by the people he loves would be one that haunts you, even when he has long since healed and moved forward from it. The sting of that heartbreak would be the very pain that pushes you into Dean’s path as he tries to reach out to Cas again, and it’s the same thing that makes you rail against each hurtful word and cutting expression that he throws Castiel’s way over the course of the years. That haunting pain that Cas bears in his heart is what makes you fight to stay by his side when he inevitably agrees to return to help the Winchesters, and it makes you protective of him, and his heart, angelic or otherwise.
