Is it bad I REALLY want to see more halloween fae shenanigans?
Like, for example, a horror house where its all pinks, blues, light purples and whites, but as you go in you see fae of inhuman horror that delightedly take part in chaotic insane shenanigans as fae do, all while being very innocent and unaware. Then, they offer you food at the end of the tour, if you take it, the fae then lock you in the room and you think they went rogue for just a moment, only for them to open a back door and you exit the attraction, seeing a fake mirror that has a faceapp-esque distortion to make them have fae eyes.

if you would all allow me to be delusional for a moment - so i went back to staring Very Hard at the neighborhood map and. um. well. im chucking my marbles out the window! as always take all of this with a Hefty grain of salt!
i thought i saw a weird pixel in Frank's window so i zoomed in. then i took a screenshot, and fucked with the contrast/brightness settings. and uhhhhhh
Tumblr media
UHHHHHH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FRANK??? HELLO???? HE'S IN THERE? i'm pretty sure im Not seeing things bc that is definitely a vague gray tube-outline with a yellow spot in the shape of Frank's nose. hidden in the dark. and i might be seeing things but in the pane next to his face it kinda looks like his hand is on the window? but! Frank's in there! what the fuck!
so naturally i slowly scrolled through the neighborhood Zoomed The Fuck In. obvi there's nothing in Home's eyes, and Barnaby's & Sally's single visible windows(?) are closed. I couldn't find any out-of-place pixels in Julie's or Poppy's.
but! Eddie's kinda freaked me out a little! look at this shit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
on the top left pane... are those fingerprints pressing into the glass? and in the lower left, is that a fucking Face peering out? a creepy ass face that almost looks like some sort of mask? there seems to be another Shape in the upper right... another face perhaps?
and then there's the weird window shine in the lower right (along with maybe Another face...). it almost looks like a string of letters. there isn't a single pattern/design like that anywhere else in the neighborhood. what's up with that....
oh and also, just went back to double check the post office's display window
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there seems to be another face - all the way to the right in the darkness. judging by the shape of the paler (yellowish?) pixels between what must be eyes, i think that's Eddie. and i think i see ears and a hat... not sure though. this one is really tough to see but it's There
(side note: Eddie is totally fucked, isn't he? between the faces(?) and hands behind his door, Home sitting in his display, and the hyacinths by his building, the emphasis on his memory (or lack-thereof) in a project that is, in a sense, About memory... i'm concerned! and eating it tf up! hell yeah lets get funky!)
now i couldn't see any, like, concrete Faces or anything in Howdy's store. but! you can kinda see inside! observe~
Tumblr media
in the big open window, you can kinda make out some sort of container on a counter and what might be shelves or a kind of brick pattern. and then above the 100% sign... hold on are those fuckign Eyes? lets take a look zoomed in & without the image adjustments!
Tumblr media
yeah those uh. i think those are eyes. Wally-esque eyes peering out of the darkness. though they also mildly remind me of eyespots on insect wings. butterfly eyespots, perhaps. inch resting indeed...
WAIT I LIED!!! there DOES seem to be another string of letter-like symbols in the neighborhood, not just the post office's window shine. now it could be just a wild coincidence, but at the same time it seems kind of... purposeful. like that's not normal shading/coloring.
Tumblr media
check out the blue window border on Howdy's Place, next to the apples. the lighter blue pixels seem Arranged. i think i see a clear N, and either an R or a P... along with some other symbols that i don't recognize as anything. the lower ones look kinda like faces? what could the top one be? is any of it anything or am i looking too hard?
in short: they're watching us watch them and there's way more to the map than initially meets the eye....
(edit: i've added a reblog w/ the images outlined! badly outlined but a clearer View of what i see nonetheless! + some notes on more little things outlining helped me notice)
#throttling my laptop WHAT DOES IT MEAN??? WHAT DOES IT MEANNNNNNN#got a little spooked there ngl....#noticing the faces(?) in eddie's gave me a lil startle. got a little chill up my spine#I LOVE IT!#im gonna be reeling over this all night....#the implications! the arising questions!! the Choices!!!#frank and eddie being the only ones with their faces in their windows (plus a couple extra)#eddie and howdy having letters/symbols(?) on their buildings#THE EYES IN HOWDY'S STORE!!!#i feel like these are important misplaced pieces of a puzzle i havent even opened yet#god and like. tiny home in eddie's window yeah but that With the eyes in howdy's store?#both buildings - both Stores! - seeming to have hidden letters on them??? WHAT DOES IT MEANNNN#of course i could be just plain insane and seeing things#but some of it.... ough i dont think i am fellas#welcome home speculation#wh speculation#homebogging#ive been meaning to Examine the updated map.... not much Changed or caught my attention but a few things did#why does barnaby have a carton of milk outside his house? something to do with the phrase 'no use crying over spilled milk'?#the flower patch behind julie's house is Oddly green.... kinda reminds me of a body dump#that plus the red thing next to the bowling ball (a ribbon? scissors? something else?) makes me Suspicious#along with a mildly delusional Theory i've had since my first good Examining Of The Map (before the update!)#but thats not what this post is about#theres just. theres interesting things in there!#thank you for reading! i need to go Think about this all....#im feeling the urge to up the contrast/brightness of Every Single Slightly Dark image on the site <3

I have a lot of feelings about how awareness of the difference in social standing worked a heavy role in how Merlin slowly stopped talking honestly with Arthur or anybody else and started isolating himself and working more in the shadows, but I don't have the cool to put them into a proper analysis so have just a collection of scenes that make me want to scream on the edge of a cliff.
I'm talking how all instances of Merlin ending up in the stocks belong in the first quarter of the series and happen less and less often, and sure that's in part because of Arthur growing but it's also because Merlin learnt to play the game. Thrice in one episode, the one with the Sidhe, and always for Arthur, to cover up for him - and sure, that's completely unlikely behaviour for the prince, that's literally how Gaius started suspecting enchantment, but Merlin was so eager of being treated like a friend - the kind he and Will were, getting into trouble and protecting each other - that he just went along with it.
I'm talking the poisoned chalice, Nimueh's trickery, and Uther saying "He'll drink it" "But if it's poisoned he'll die!" "Then we'll know he was telling the truth" "And if he doesn't?" "Then you're free to do with him as you wish" A servant's life spent only to settle the score, ending nonetheless, loyal or not doesn't matter. Drop her in the lake and if she dies she was innocent but if she lives she's a witch so burn her at the stake.
I'm talking Lady of the Lake and Merlin being made to stand in the line with all the other peasants for identification - and then being arrested on nothing but suspicions and almost getting beat up for so much as your shilouette looks a bit like the dark shadow I saw that night and you look suspicious to me. Sure Arthur saved him but all he had to say way ''Nope''; Merlin said he was innocent, there was no proof against him whatsoever, and he was about to get it nonetheless on the grounds of "I don't believe you".
I'm talking The Witchfinder and, again, Merlin being arrested on so much as a man of higher rank's word. I'm also talking about him not truly having a choice when Uther asked him to let his chambers be searched, and how when he was dragged out of the cells it was just because Gaius was being arrested on his place. I'm also also talking about Merlin getting back home and finding it destroyed - all of their things, Gaius' life work, every single one of their meagre possessions broken and abandoned with no regard like trash by a search of the royal guards, by Arthur and Leon themselves. No one to help him as he tried to pick up the pieces, all the while desperate because his only parental figure in the whole kingdom risks death, and it's all his fault for being stupid and reckless (is it?, is it really?! such a heinous crime, a boy playing with shapes in the smoke the way kids look for figures in the clouds?!). Even when they save Gaius, it is not Merlin's word that stops the execution, it's not even Gwen's, it's Arthur's - because they have his ear, sure, but he's the one who stops Aeridian, he who talks Uther into searching his chambers. Matter of fact, when Merlin proposes the very same thing, Uther whales on him immediately.
I'm talking The Sorcerer's Shadow, when Merlin tries to tell Arthur that the whole idea of a tournament with a huge prize where everyone can contend is a bad idea for everyone who'll have to work during the event, and then is proved right barely a handful of hours later when he gets cornered in the armory by those two contenders. Again, sure, Gilli steps in and saves the day because he's a contender himself, because he has no hesitation using magic in a fight, but before his arrival Merlin was playing the game and losing badly. He kept his head down, he answered plainly, he flinched back when the man threatened him with the whip and in the end he even tried to do what they were ordering him to. He tried to clean their boots as they wore them, because the one chance he had to get out of the whole thing unscathed was to go along and hope for the best. And it wasn't working even then, remember, he got a lash for his trouble and he was realising very quickly that there was no winning in that situation, because those bullies were not like Arthur when they first met - aching for a fight but respectful of an opponent that can land a punch. It's two on one and if Merlin fights back it's only going to get worse.
I'm talking episode Gwaine and the bandits from the inn tormenting Merlin with nothing but the rank of the men they're impersonating. When they find him in their rooms and play throwing daggers at him and what he's to do but stand there and lie that he wasn't doing anything? These are knights. The only person to come to his aid is Gwaine himself, and because he's no nobleman his payback is to be dragged before Uther and banished from Camelot. And that's the good outcome, because Sir Ewan tried to ask for his head.
Speaking of Gwaine, in the Lamia episode Merlin had been travelling with the knights for a while, he knows all of them, Gwaine is his friend, Elyan is Gwen's brother, Leon had known him for years now. But the moment the knigths start picking the Lamia's side over Merlin's, his entire attitude towards them changes. He doesn't give orders, he's nowhere near as assertive as he can be with Arthur - he bows down, he goes along with what they want, when he tries to speak up it's always less rudely than he would if Arthur was there, and he folds the moment they pull rank on him. "You dare to question our judgement" "We're knights of Camelot" "You're just a servant" Even Gwen tries to push harder than Merlin does, and she's a servant and a woman, but at least that's her brother right there, her family. Merlin has nothing to stand on but his role as physician's assistant, and it doesn't count for much.
And Gwen's journey is different, it's one of rising above her birthright, it ends with her on the throne, whilst Merlin sets himself very early in the series as Arthur's servant. He tells Sigan "Better to serve a good man than to rule with an evil one" and he means it, he really does, but that's also because it's all he's been hearing since he's come to Camelot. The dragon tells him that it's his destiny, that he must be at Arthur's side if he wants peace and safety for everyone to happen, or else people with magic will keep on dying; and the people in the castle tell him that the only proper place for him near Arthur is at his feet, keeping his head down and his mouth shut, offering his input only in the privacy of the prince's chamber, being careful not to step on the feet of his better.
"You're just a serving boy" - he might have answered back most of the times he's heard the words thrown at him, but it doesn't change the fact that he's been hearing them again and again and again, and he's seen the truth of them proved always at the price of dire consequences.
Ironically enough, the one person who values Merlin beyond his status, who actually enjoys the Merlin of the early seasons who didn't play by the rules, the one who got humiliated by a peasant boy in the marketplace and ordered his release because he appreciated his guts, "royal prat - what are you gonna do? get your daddy's man to protect you?", dumb "you're not talking rubbish as usual", eager "tell me - what should I do? - be honest with me", is none other than Arthur. This stupid prince who's only ever had people cater to his whims took one look at feral Merlin and decided "I want someone like that - someone who'd tell me to my face that I'm being an idiot"; the very same whom, by season five, is actively goading Merlin into breaking etiquette, in acting less like a servant and more like a friend. The guy who went from putting Merlin in the stocks, to forcing him into lessons with George (the man is so dull, he says, implying Merlin is not and what a good thing that is) to getting on a horse and personally scouring the forest to find Merlin himself because no one else did. Agravaine's "the boy was a good servant" being cut off with a gestue of the hand because how dare you. How dare you. Merlin is more than that.
But then again, Arthur is no innocent in all of this, is he? Genuinely, I believe the end of any hope that Merlin would speak to Arthur the way he did in S1, the way he did in Valiant, truly happened when Agravaine framed Gaius. Because Arthur did as Uther with Aeridian, and when Merlin tried to speak up - back to the column, head bowed, eyes downcast -, Arthur said "I already lost a friend - I couldn't stand to lose another"
There is no room even in Arthur's court, at that point, for a servant's word to weight against a nobleman's.
There is, later. Frames of the Round Table emptying out and Arthur turning his back to his whole court to seek Merlin's council alone, nights spent just this removed from the fires of the camp because these are Arthur's knights but this is Arthur's most loyal friend. It is just a bit too late, I fear, because Merlin has learnt the rules and no longer knows how to play outside of them.
By the time Evil Gwen lies to Arthur about Merlin being with a girl, he doesn't even try to contradict her. He knows she's lying, knows she's dangerous, knows there's something wrong. But this is not the Merlin who barged into Arthur's room and begged him to believe him when he said that Valiant was using magic, and he's too scared that Arthur will take her word over his to even try and explain himself.
So he keeps his mouth shut, and he pours the wine for her.

The Haunting of Simon Snow
A collaboration for the @carryon-reverse-bang fest!
Art by @bubble-gumhead, Fic by @iamamythologicalcreature
Status: 1/many chapters // 5.5k so far
Rating: Mature
Summary:
Simon never expected to take a job repairing fire damage at Pitch Manor. First off, his old schoolmate Dev Pitch never liked him. And there's the small matter of it being an empty, recently-abandoned mansion in the middle of the Hampshire dead spot. But the money's good. The fridge is stocked. There's cell reception. It's fine. Except, he's starting to think maybe those stories about Pitch Manor being haunted are more than just rumours. There’s a particular portrait, too, that’s caught his eye. Some stuffed-up tosser with the most pretentious name imaginable. It keeps… Well. It keeps changing. (But that’s not possible. Right?)
Read Chapter One on AO3!
Gushing and additional info below the cut!
I'm so thrilled to share Chapter 1 of my @carryon-reverse-bang collaboration with the amazing artist @bubble-gumhead! This is my first ever fanfic, and I'm so psyched I got such gorgeous art to inspire me! The line art that originally inspired me is in the header above (with the full color masterpiece to be unveiled in a later chapter!). I was drawn immediately to Bubblegumhead's beautiful style, and the sweet pose. The idea of including an historical element took root in my brain and turned into a ghost story. XD Check out Chapter One for an additional (?!) illustration! (Amazing.)
Stay tuned for more! I have most of the story drafted. It'll be long, but not gargantuan. XD

[ID: A digital illustration of Lucy, Theodore, and Phee in flight. Lucy has bat wings and grins excitedly at his siblings, eyes glowing slightly red. Phee is patting Theo's head, and both of them are smiling up at Lucy. End ID]
@davidbowielovesyou mentioned this idea in the most recent chap of On Your Shore, and it was too cute not to draw :3
