Was thinking a lot about the Shade, especially in regards to our AU/clan lore. Mostly just some ramblings and headcanons thrown around. We were reading about entropy and strange matter lately, and things just tumbled into spooky.png from there.

So it's like, the Literal Void ™️ right-? I know in the canon lore (iirc at least) it's depicted as like, smoke sorta-? Shadow but Not ™️

Imagine Shade but ten times more eldritch, though-

Like, instead of just a manifestation of nothingness, it's just straight up nothingness given un-form, if that makes sense. Incomprehensible.

A literal gap in reality. It hurts to look at because you're quite literally looking at nothing. It bends light weirdly and messes up the passage of time at the edges of its form because it's like a black hole without y'know, the spaghettification-

In the light it looks like straight up.. an ink blot in the air. A dimensional stain from all angles; "outlined" in light like a drawing in a way (because of the way it messes with light).

In the dark, though? Ten times worse. Instant hallucinations of a sort just from looking at it too long. It's not defined by any edges, it's everywhere, there's a bit of nothingness everywhere. If there’s any scarce light, you can see it quivering like a mirage.

You can't really touch it. All "fighting" it does is fill the space that its presence hollows out, and drives it away that way, for a while at least.

It's not energy, more like the absence of it. Unenergy. Energyn't. Entropy and nothingness packed into one insubstantial “smog”.

Perhaps it’s not inherently evil, just a force of the universe.

At least in this AU setting, that is.
