Hbomberguy referenced Russian Spoony uploads at the end of his 4 hour plagiarist takedown video, that is doing crazy numbers.
At that part, I felt like he came directly into my apartment and pointed and hissed at me. In a good way.
Spoony was my first content creator love, and I'm thrilled to know other people are as desperate to watch his lost content via Russian sub reloads as I am.
And now tons of younger people are seeing this and can check those out.

Neurodiverse based cleaning ideas/tips
I want to preface this by saying that there is no perfect cleaning solution that works for everyone, and even when you find a method that works really great for you, it doesn't mean that you'll always be able to clean as much as you'd like on a daily basis. The focus i take is "progress is progress" or "something is better than nothing, even if that something is 'small'".
Something a lot of us seem to struggle with is feeling overwhelmed over the whole picture. If your whole house is messy you may lose all motivation because it feels impossible to tackle all of it in one go. Frankly, it's really unrealistic to tackle a whole messy home in one spurt. My partner has big issues with task paralysis because they'll stand there staring at the whole area and not even know where to start. Or sometimes you may lose motivation because of how fast things get messy again so you lose that dopamine from getting things done like myself. Remember that progress is progress, and doing what you're personally capable of doing is what's important.
Now to some tips/ideas.
Multi-step check lists
Something that I personally do a lot is make check lists. For cleaning I always put every individual task down rather than the entire chore. A good example of this would be laundry. Instead of writing "do laundry", I will put every step in the laundry process as their own things on the check list for me to check off as I go. For example:
*start load of laundry (washer)
*switch over laundry (dryer)
*fold clothes
*put away clothes
If you have multiple loads of laundry that need done, you can do Multiple of each. For me, if I don't end up finishing the entire load or every load of laundry in one day and only have "do laundry" on the list, I feel useless and sad I didn't get it all done, and I can't check it off my list to show myself that I at least started it/got it partially done. Doing every step still takes energy, it can still take spoons. I DID do something, but a traditional check list wouldn't show for that.
For some people a multi-step list could look overwhelming if you do every single task in one list. You can totally make separate check lists for different rooms or for different days, but if you're okay with a large check list, it may make you feel an even bigger dopamine rush having multiple things checked off of a large list. If there's too much to tackle and a singular list is too overwhelming, it's okay to not make the entire list at once and make it as you go, or you can categorize your list by rooms or specific types of tasks. If I have 30 things on a list and check off 10-15, that's a lot! I can always do more of the list tomorrow, or another day, or add those things to the next list I make.
But what if I don't even know where to start with cleaning?
This one is tricky for a LOT of ND people/spoonies and the answer will vary from person to person. Do you like to start by importance to be motivated? Or does something being super important make you experience executive dysfunction? If it's the former you can think about what needs done the most. Don't have enough dishes for tomorrow or dinner? Start with the dishes. Maybe that looks like gathering dishes from around the house and putting them in one spot, maybe that looks like only having some plates in the sink at a time to make it look less overwhelming. Maybe that looks like only focusing on a specific type of dishware one at a time (I.e. plates, bowls, silverware, cookware). Maybe you use a dishwasher so if you do a multi-step checklist it can look like:
*gather dishes
*rinse dishes/get off hard grime
*put dishes in dishwasher
*start dish washer
*unload dish washer
But let's say something really important makes it overwhelming/hard to start..then do the exact opposite. Start with something that could technically wait but you want to start cleaning now! You may find yourself having motivation to also at least start important things. Something to keep in mind that you can try is rather than thinking about things as detrimental, thinking about them as all neutral tasks you'd like to accomplish.
Just pick something and go for it
Sometimes we do better by just seeing something and doing that. If you don't like checklists or structure, you can just do things you see around the house. If you DO want something to show you what you've accomplished, you can write down the things you've done as you go. You vacuumed? Write it down. You picked up a few dishes around the house and put them in the sink? Write it down. You took out the trash? Write it down. It may not be structured, but you did those specific things anyways so why not show yourself that you were productive. Maybe you didn't get every dish in the house, maybe you didn't vaccum every room or take out garbage out of every room with a garbage bin, but you DID do it for some places.
How to balance self care and chores?
For me, I tend to include self care in my check lists to view it as just as important as a chore. Yeah my self care should take priority but when I see them all as equally important I personally tend to get them done easier, while putting in a mental note that I absolutely have to do some of those self care things like eat. Maybe I'll put "eat" in all caps or with emojis around it so it keeps drawing my attention to remind me to eat. Self care can take energy just like chores do, so keeping in mind that they all take energy and motivation can help you see that you accomplished things, even if a lot of people would see those things as "basic necessities" it can be hard to have enough energy to even do those things.
This way, even if I don't get a lot of cleaning done, I still ate, I still brushed my teeth, I still took a shower, and I happened to put laundry away. All things that may be difficult to do.
Or perhaps you could put necessary self care above chores. Maybe you'll make sure you eat beforehand, or brush your teeth, or agree to yourself that after you get some tasks done you'll take a shower so trying to preserve enough energy to do that. And then when you're done showering you may or may not have enough energy to do more chores. It's entirely dependent on your energy levels and you as a person!
Self rewards
Some people do well with a self reward system. This could mean rewarding yourself at the end of your chore list, or giving yourself a reward after so many tasks. The reward will vary..maybe it's sitting and watching a few TikTok videos or a single YouTube video (maybe you have to set a timer for this), maybe it's some candy or a snack. The idea though is if you're rewarding yourself mid-chores, to figure out what you can reward yourself with that won't completely make you lose motivation to continue. For some people this may not be possible so It could be easier to give yourself a minimum you want to get done before this reward. "Im going to do X, Y, and Z and then I'll reward myself" or "I'm going to check off 5 things off my list before I can do this" whatever works for you.
Lastly, you can try starting one room at a time
Some people do better by tackling a whole room. You could start with the smallest room, the least messy room, or the messiest room depending on your motivation levels. I would still encourage you to feel accomplished even if you didn't finish every possible thing in the room! Some people may even find themselves wanting to start with a specific room but end up branching out to tasks in other rooms as their mind makes them wander. This doesn't mean you did anything wrong, because again, you did something. Or you did multiple somethings. Even if the room you planned didn't get done, you got other things done in other rooms as you got bored or side-tracked
Anyways I hope this list of ideas is helpful. Cleaning can be super difficult to achieve, perfection even harder. Remember that almost nobody is perfect. And I also want to remind you to take care of yourself if you find yourself hyperfixating on cleaning. Please don't forget to eat, pee, or drink some water as you go 💜💜
