This post is something I’ll probably delete later but here are my thoughts as I am halfway through the final book in the Raven Cycle.

Okay... I really enjoyed book 1. The only complaint I had was that the ending didn’t really make sense. But I liked the premise and the characters, and I figured the series was set up in a way where once I continued, the ending of book 1 would make sense.

BOY WAS I WRONG

This entire series makes no sense. These books are written as if the reader is thrown into the deep end of a pool and is forced to figure it out. What do all these hidden caves and magical forests and dream symbols mean? Fuck if I know. Fuck if I know why they’re there besides to further the ~~~mysticism~~~ of the books.

I think that’s what turns me off from these books. I’ve been trying to figure this out for months. But I think the fact that these books are so atmospheric and so caught up on how ~mystical~ and mysterious everything is, that it impedes on me as a reader getting to know the characters and impedes the reader from getting to know the stakes in the story, thus not letting me as a reader feel the need to be invested. 

Why is Noah getting possessed? Beats me. (because whaaaat the ley line is mad~~) it’s because Noah isn’t an actual character, he’s just a vessel for the author to give us more mystery and spoopiness even though he had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. YOU GAVE US A CHARACTER THAT IS DEAD AND CAN MANIFEST IN THE HUMAN WORLD FOR FUCKS SAKE, STOP THROWING HIM SPOOKY SCENES WHEN YOU FEEL IT’S CONVENIENT AND THEN MAKING HIM DISAPPEAR FOR THE REST OF THE BOOK

What are the stakes in Adam connecting himself with the ley line? ...........more convenience to give the reader more mystical scenes well

I’m 60 percent through book 4 and Glendower has only been mentioned once, did you forget you set up a plot here, Stiefvater?

What was the point of Glendower’s sister being brought out of the cave? 

These books feel like they follow the same rules as Whose Line is it Anyway. Everything’s made up, the plot points don’t matter, and nothing makes sense.

Also, for anyone who is holding up this series as great LGBT rep or a pinnacle of queer YA books.... get the hell off of my porch. Yay for the inclusion of the m/m couple but there was no buildup besides one scene in book 3 and then suddenly Ronan had feelings for Adam 1/3rd of the way through book 4.
