Agere Glimmer headcanons

(Agere Catra headcanons, agere Adora headcanons)

Content warnings: war/trauma/grief mention, negative emotions while regressed; SPOP spoilers

Glimmer has experienced regression since a very young age. Over time she kept learning about it, understanding her own triggers, and so on. It's been a difficult journey, to be honest.

Her parents have been very loving and generous but even so, the war still took a toll on Glimmer since she was little, especially after King Micah was gone. Her own and her mother's grief, the trauma of it all, and the need to step up and take on all kinds of new responsibilities, the anger, the desire to help the Rebellion... it has been a lot for a young girl to deal with and unfortunately, she had less opportunity to be a kid, she had to grow up too fast too soon.

Glimmer tends to have pretty big and strong emotions and they can seriously drain her when it gets out of control.

Age regression has helped Glimmer cope with things quite a lot. It's like coming home, to the days long gone, back when Angela and Micah were both around and when Glimmer was somewhat more protected from the horrors of war. It's so comforting to her.

However, sometimes Glimmer’s age regression can be full of pretty heavy emotions. Sometimes the regression doesn't help, sometimes she regresses and only feels worse. It's scary, too vulnerable, too frustrating and confusing. Sometimes it can only heighten her already strong emotions, make them more destructive. Glimmer finds it hard to control this. It can be very inconvenient.

Bow, of course, knows that Glimmer regresses. He fully supports her and is happy to assist her during these times.

Later on Adora learns of Glimmer's regression as well. Both her and Bow are willing to join in and support their friend.

Once Glimmer becomes the queen, she simply has no time to regress anymore. At all.

She ends up repressing this part of her until the war ends.

But even when it's over, Glimmer still has a lot of work to do, of course. She still has to deal with all the damage that's been done.

Both Bow and Adora can see that Glimmer simply doesn't let herself rest that much. That she's tired and stressed out. That she really needs to have some time to herself.

Bow and Adora do their best to help with Glimmer's responsibilities and lessen her workload, just so she can get more free time and maybe finally regress. King Micah also does everything to help his daughter.

At first, Glimmer resists that and refuses. But over time she starts experiencing burnout, becomes particularly irritable, exhausted, depressed. She has so much to do and she still needs space to process all the grief she'd been accumulating because of the war. It's just too much.

When she tries to enter the regressed mindset, it's too hard. There's still that inner resistance that tells her that it's simply not safe to regress just yet. But gradually, with Adora and Bow's help, Glimmer learns how to relax again, how to stop repressing all these feelings, how to process everything and let it all out instead, and as a result, how to regress again.

She's a very emotional and active kid! She likes to play active games like running away from someone and them trying to catch her and she cheats a lot by teleporting. She also likes to do a lot of harmless sparkley magic!

Regressed Glimmer likes to listen to various stories being read to her or stories made up by Bow or Adora and gets really invested and tends to also make additions to them!

Generally she likes to create when regressed. Stories, drawings, sand sculptures… it's a lot of fun!

Glimmer is a very affectionate kid. Constant hugs, kisses, she can't get enough of that!

It's kind of hard to make Glimmer go to sleep. Overall, she's pretty stubborn when regressed – even more stubborn than usual! – and doesn't like to listen when being told to do something.

She can be quite a handful for anyone who decides to take care of her! But she's also very grateful for that.

Dr. Lt. Yarrow Cala, Ships Counselor

Backstory: Yarrow was born on a world near the Federation border.  Their parents were farmers, with their father being a romulan expat.  They had a good childhood, but Yarrow wanted to do more with their life than just farming.  As they got older, the idea of joining Starfleet entered their mind, and after a lot of intense study, they were accepted to the academy.

While there, Yarrow found that they had a strength for mental health skills, and was told by many people that they were very approachable.  Yarrow entered into the medical track with a concentration on mental health and excelled.

Description:  Yarrow is female presenting but is intersex.  They are shorter and heavier then average, with short blonde hair they usually have styled in a bob cut (this is also the only outward sign of their human ancestry, as bonde hair is practically unheard of in romulans)  They wear eyeglasses as well, both out of necessity but also serves to help put their patients at ease.  Unlike many mental health specialists in Starfleet, they prefer to wear their uniform on a day to day basis, but usually a short sleeve version of it.  

Personality: When seeing people as a mental health expert, Yarrow is extremely intuitive and generally very good at helping people get to the core of their issue, and then, being able to help them find ways to manage the issue.  They are fond of nontraditional therapy, such as art or animal based therapy. (They were the one who recommended a therapy animal for Emily, as well as helping her with art therapy)

Outside of seeing patients though Yarrow is extremely socially awkward.  They want to make friends and be with people, but often don't know what to say in those situations.  They are good friends with Saissano and Chee, and have adapted well to earth culture.  Yarrow is fond of cheesy romance/adventure stories, green teas, and likes spring as a season the most.  They dislike fish as a food, (finding it an unpleasant texture) as well as hot weather.  

Yarrow is pansexual, and had a major crush on Kohl-To, a Skorr and fellow member of the medical staff.  Kohl-To also has a major crush on Yarrow, but alas, the two are very oblivious to the other’s feelings.  

Random Facts about Dr. Yarrow Cala

Their favorite color is teal.

Yarrow had a few minor crushes growing up and at the academy, but their first major crush is Kohl-To.

Ironically for a crewmember of a spaceship, Yarrow has a fear of heights. Being hundreds of kilometers in orbit is fine, but a 2 meter ladder makes their knees wobbly.  

Keeps their personal PADD with a wallpaper picture of Gus (her golden retriever therapy dog she has for her patients) being a silly doggo.  

Dresses conservatively when off duty.  Usually casual pants, a sweater and jacket or vest of some kind.

It's amazing how 95% of the fandom discourse would once people remember how there isn't even one reliable narrator in the entire show.

The princesses? Only know what their parents told them.

Angela? Too grief minded to think things through as called out by her own daughter.

Hordak? Is a literal brain washed clone who most likely changed his memories as a coping mechanism. Only got all of his memories back by the end of the show. I'm pretty sure all of the characters knew his backstory was wrong but none of them said anything.

Shadow Weaver? Has a bigger victim complex than Catra (she had to get from someone). There's isn't one character that didn't call her out on it. Her piers literally told her how power hungry and selfish she is and she blamed their rejection on her birth status. Yeah, sure Jan.

Light Hope? Was the probably the closest thing he could have had to a reliable narrator but the evil virus ruined that. The only way we could possibly know what exactly happened is if she comes back but let's face it, she's been through enough. Let her rest in robot heaven.

In conclusion, no one, and I mean no one, could tell a coherent background story about Etheria even if they wanted to. Which is great for a black slate for storytelling. Not so much for adults who need an explanation for everything while forgetting they're watching a goddamn kid's show.

Is anyone else still messed up over the permanence of Angella’s sacrifice? Like, I didn’t expect her to remain dead... The way the show phrased it, it was still somewhat open to her return?

But now she really IS gone, and it’s just been hitting me ever since. Micah is probably low-key haunted by his memories of the Portal Reality, knowing his wife died without ever knowing he was still alive, and under the impression that her last moments with him were ‘fake’ in a way. Those moments, fruitlessly calling out to Angella, were Micah’s last moments with his loved one, and he probably wonders that if he got the message out in time over his survival, would things have gone differently? Could she at least have gotten some comfort and closure, knowing her beloved still lives, that she DID have some final happiness with him, that here daughter wasn’t completely orphaned?

Just... man.

hi I don’t know if anyone’s talked about this before but in season 3 of spop when reality was falling in on itself or whatever, Micah was there, alive as king. At the time at least I was like ‘oh yeah he’s dead though so it’s just a projection of his consciousness’ but Micah was alive that whole time. He was alive and was experiencing this. He was on Beast Island but then he was with his wife and his daughter. And then when everything went back to how it was, he was back. He went from everything he’d ever wanted back to complete isolation and that’s so fucking sad.
