+ here’s a question, what are like some hc voices for Narilamb?
I think Mao Mao for Nari but idk abt Lamb, I think I don’t like the idea of them having an overtly feminine or masc voice, if that makes any sense, but I don’t have a good idea of what that voice would be ??
I think I said Raine Owl House to myself before. But tbh idkk

I am begging you, watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.
This show is so slept on, but lemme tell you - it’s good. The show has a plethora of good racial, queer and neurodivergent representation, and it’s just good.
Legit none of the main characters are white. We have Kipo, the main, who is half-Black and half-Korean (ignore her pink skin) and her crew Benson and Wolf, who are both Black. Benson’s love interest is Latino/Asian. In fact, if I’m correct, the most important white character in the entire show is the main antagonist for season 3.  Edit: why the hell did I write black twice.
(Spoilers in this paragraph) A side character, Asher, who is in seasons 2 and 3, is canonically non-binary. I can’t remember if their pronouns are used in-show, but the creator confirmed it on Twitter. On top of this, Benson’s love interest I mentioned? Yeah, his name is Troy, and he’s canonically pansexual. On top of this, Benson actively comes out in an episode where Kipo asks him out; “I like you as a friend...because...I’m gay!” Very sweet episode.
While there are no canonical neurodivergent characters, Kipo is heavily adhd-coded. Wolf has clear trauma from her “family” and the abuse she went through. The show tackles racism (in a way), abandonment, betrayal, found family and healed trauma from families.
Now the plot. The story is a refreshingly original tale of Kipo, a girl that lived in an underground city her whole life. This is because “the surface” has become overrun by “mutes”, animals that have doubled, tripled, quadrupled or plus in size. They can also think, talk and scheme - and they hate humans. However, when Kipo is thrown to the surface with no hope of getting back home, she has to work with what she’s got - which is a small but angry Wolf and a flaky but loyal Benson. And a whole lot of mutes that would like her head on a stick.
Last thing - the cast is actually pretty star-studded. Kipo is played by Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko Miyashiro, The Boys - Glimmer, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power - Katana, Suicide Squad). Seasons 1 and 2 antagonist Scarlamange is played by Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley, Downtime Abbey - The Beast, Beauty and the Beast - Alexander Lemtov, Eurovision; the story of Fire Saga). And Dave is played by comedian Deon Cole, who was also in Black-ish at a point. Edit: probably the biggest name, at least to me, is the side character Lemieux, portrayed by Grey Griffin (Azula - Avatar, The Last Airbender, Moon and Jackie - SVTFOE, Ice Queen - Adventure Time, Masha - The Owl House, and many more).
Honestly, this show is so good. Please please please give it a shot. If you like Amphibia, The Owl House, Hilda or SPOP, watch it.
Okay final edit I promise: The soundtrack fuckin slaps. Apologies to everyone in the tags pointing out that I missed it

20 Ways how you know you might like RWBY?
Remember, there is no best show ever. Every show has its ups and downs. We’re just going to explain why RWBY is a show worth watching, that’s it.
1) Do you like ATLA, TOH, SPOP and LoK? -> Chances are, you’ll also like RWBY. Its not the same, and its never meant to try to be the same. But it does carry similar things.
2) Do you like stories with badass women taking on the roles typically held by male protagonist?  -> Then you should like RWBY.
3) Do you like stories with found family themes AND positive Step-family relationships?  -> Then RWBY should be on your list.
4) Do you enjoy stories with in depth fantasy lore and history?  -> Then RWBY would be a fantastic show to watch, because it does have them.
5) Do you like analyzing shows that have lots of significant hidden details, foreshadowing, easter eggs, callbacks, and references?  -> Then you’ll quite like RWBY.
6) Do you enjoy watching character development?  -> Chances are then that you’ll like RWBY.
7) Do you like slow burn WLW relationships?  -> RWBY, because BUMBLEBY KISSED TWICE, BABY!
8) Do you like shows with badass soundtracks made specifically for the show with lyrics that even add foreshadowing and other fun details? ->  RWBY has that.
9) Do you enjoy shows that are all about hope and love in the face of despair and hate?  -> RWBY!!!
10) Do you like shows where all of the characters are based on fairy tales, myths, legends, historical figures, etc. with wee details added here and there to give clues as to who each person is based on?  ->RWBY
11) Do you enjoy shows that are more light hearted and fun but then also still get into serious topics like dealing with loss, alcoholism, PTSD, abuse, neglect, abandonment issues, etc?  -> RWBY
12) Do you like badass fight scenes where the animation just keeps getting better and better as the show continues? -> RWBY
13) Do you like Warrior Nun and other similar shows? -> RWBY could very well be enjoyable for you too
14)Do you like long form story telling where details come back from all the way in the beginning of the show? -> RWBY definitely does that. We’re on Volume 9 and they brought up stuff from back in Volume 1 during it.
15) Do you like shows that are even better when you rewatch them cuz you can then pick up on all sorts of details you missed previously that MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE NOW and make you love the show even more? -> RWBY is so damn easy to rewatch
16) Do you like stories that constantly subvert expectations in brilliant ways? Like in ways that MAKE SENSE? -> RWBY!
17) Do you like stories about HOPE that aren’t just naive and blind to everything and to reality? -> RWBY 100%
18) Do you like fantasy-mecha type weapons that can transform and badass n creative character fighting styles? -> Have I said it enough yet?
19) Do you like shows with INTERESTING villains that actually have interesting backstories and motivations that isn’t just simply cuz they’re “evil”? RWBY
20) FINALLY:   Do you like shows that take a very fanservice concept (girls fighting monsters) and gives them stories, personalities, development, and Bechdel-passing relationships, while it takes two male power fantasies (gritty edgelord who uses prolific violence and morally grey actions to pursue a noble goal, and tactical mastermind who makes difficult sacrifices for The Mission) and made them failures?...--> Again, RWBY.
Here’s something else to consider for you
https://yinyangofnevermore.tumblr.com/post/710346324045856768/so-youre-considering-watching-rwby-or-youre
Just remember. NOBODY is saying that RWBY is the best show out there.
We’re simply saying its a good show and that its enjoyable. So please? We’re simply asking you to give this show a chance.

Miscellaneous Thought Post 💭 (4)
I was listening to the Spop soundtrack (kudos to Sunna Wehrmeijer) and I noticed that “Razz” and “Coronation” both start with this triumphant and mystical style of music followed by an ominous minor key that ends with Catra’s guitar theme. Which got me thinking.
Not only does Catra serve as Adora and Glimmer’s character foil in Seasons 1 and 4 respectively, but the two episodes also parallel one another quite a bit too. In each episode both Glimmer and Adora have recently experienced a huge shift in their lives that cannot be undone and must now face a new normal. Their first attempts at this goes poorly and they each need to distance themselves from the situation. After finding a bit of their equilibrium again with the help of a friend they’re able to put on a brave face and stand before the entire Rebellion pledging to give their all to the cause. They are coronated and granted a new title. Prepared to face the upcoming struggles head on. Back in the Horde after a couple of her own missteps Catra is also able to strong arm her way into a similar position. Foreshadowing that the audience should be expecting a parallel story arc moving forward. Man this show’s story is told brilliantly.
However, I feel like the fandom focuses so much on Catra’s parallels, we don’t always appreciate how similar the other characters’ arcs are to one another, especially Glimmer and Adora. They’re a lot alike. They’re both incredibly brave and stubborn. They’re natural leaders who inspire others through their actions. They also have major character flaws that make them not great at listening, causing them to disregard how other people are feeling in pursuit of the “greater good.” (In other words self-righteous jerks). It’s part of why they worked so well together in the earlier seasons yet butted heads throughout season four.

I love slow songs in minor keys so much.
(This is a slower version of the Aliyah Rose title theme... I don't remember if it showed up anywhere in the show, but I feel like it should have.)

ok let’s talk about that transformation music snippet
for those of you guys who don’t know what happened, apparently on amazon or spotify, there was a theme that sounds,,, suspiciously like a combo of the she-ra transformation theme and catra’s instrumental theme.
now, i am by no means an expert on music theory, however i have been playing classical viola for about 7 years now and i’ve taken a few classes on theory to hone in on my craft, so let’s talk about that theme and what it could mean for the show.
first of all, let’s talk about she-ra’s theme and catra’s theme. they share a motif- a part of music that repeats itself during a certain part (there’s a great video on motifs using hamilton i will link in the replies). that motif is at the start of both the she-ra theme and the catra theme- it’s also on guitar, and is pretty recognizable for people who have watched the show. however, where they deviate is where it starts to get interesting. after the motif in catra’s theme, the next note is a half step down, and it makes the theme into a song in a minor key as opposed to a major key, meanwhile while she-ra’s theme also goes down, but it stays in key making her theme into a major key. this can pretty easily be seen in the show- catra and adora start in the same place and then deviate- adora towards the light and catra towards the dark.
but let’s talk about what’s really interesting: that “transformation” theme that was leaked(?). it contains our motif, however it lingers on it, unlike both the she-ra theme and the catra theme. it also goes down, and goes down in a similar way to how catra’s theme descends, even using the harsh electric guitar associated with her theme. in the background at that point, you can hear some strings that are pretty heavily associated with she-ra, and those offset it from being in a minor key. then we hear our motif again, and this time it goes up. still in catra’s guitar, but this is how it is in the she-ra transformation sequence.
what do we make of this? based on the scene with double trouble from s4, i doubt that catra is going to be willing to work with horde prime, and that she’s probably going to start working with adora again. this theme tells me that they’re definitely somehow going to be working together at some point, maybe in a fight scene, maybe something else. but this, above all else in my mind solidifies that catra is going to make amends with adora this season.

What if the reason the new Transformation track is a mix of She-Ra’s and Catra’s themes is because they’re both going to transform? 👀

Makeup and Music
Hordak wore some lovely black lipstick as a part of his corpsepaint during the early fourth season. \m/ \m/ To think that he was stripped of all these little privileges during his subsequent time as a cult slave. :( I keep wondering what his favorite black metal band is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of music, Entrapta has a very prominent leitmotif (a recurring musical piece associated with someone/something in particular), and it often keeps playing during her scenes together with Hordak (he doesn’t seem to have a prominent theme). I wonder if that was done on purpose to emphasize Entrapta’s influence on his character arc?
The SPoP soundtrack is available on Spotify, in case anyone has missed it.
