man ykwhat, i didn't wanna say it but i was thinking about it earlier and swan being released so soon after abyss monarch, after something like three years of no new legendaries (not counting the dragons here), it feels like devsis was riding the high of releasing a good legendary with an interesting story and worldbuilding. feels like they were trying to cash grab what they got from the success of abyss monarch by quickly releasing swan so soon after. like, come on, i dont even think there were two events between abyss monarch and the sugar swan's releases, and those are two LEGENDARIES. bam bam. we had like zero room to breathe between them

also like, come on. they released swan from NPC hell after SEVEN YEARS and her whole event is unsatisfying because she wasn't even in the event for like 90% of it. i like the worldbuilding they did for the dessert paradise and i love blue slushy, but it really didn't feel like a new legendary release event.

if you ask me, sugar swan shouldnt have released at all during that event, ESPECIALLY because of that teaser cliffhanger at the end of the story! if they had used the dessert guardian test event to build up to the sugar swan's legendary release at a later date, that ending cliffhander would've given devsis room to make a future event to release her! they could've given swan the same proper build-up they gave abyss monarch. did you guys SEE how in-depth the designers went with "The Making of Wandercrab"??? why did swan get SHAFTED so hard

swan is an extremely indifferent character and i like the angle they're going for with her but. their execution of her story and the timing of her release and everything...??? it just felt SUPER flat. like they went all in building wandercrab for abyss monarch and shafted swan SO bad bc they wanted money. swan doesnt get an intricately built story and setting the way abyss monarch does with the tower of frozen waves leading into sugarteara leading into wandercrab, and it KILLS me bc swan's release could have actually been REALLY cool if they'd just teased her in the dessert guardian test event and then waited to release her in a future event.

like, hear me out. what if it had gone like, blue slushy, epic cookie, first release, they introduce the spring and summer sections of the dessert paradise. red panna cotta cookie, epic cookie, second release, they introduce fall and winter sections of the dessert paradise. everything goes as is, but the swan isnt released, she's just touched on in the story and is a little cameo at the end! like wow, she CAN turn into a cookie that's pretty cool. and its this big payoff for blue slushy's character arc and it gives some closure to red panna cotta's conflict with blue slushy too, all without dropping the sugar swan too much in there because the story wasn't really ABOUT her as a character, just her as an IDEAL.

and then, there's the ending cliffhanger with the black sugar duck, which gives them a perfect opportunity to springboard from that into a future event where swan is released!

and remember how in the event they said if the swan doesn't return, winter will come? well, what if in this hypothetical future event, something does happen to the swan, and it's the black sugar duck's fault, and winter DOES come.

i think it'd be an interesting spin to add elements of the demeter persephone hades story too, where persephone spends three months in the underworld with her husband and demeter is so upset at being away from her daughter that persephone's absence causes winter

black sugar duck does something to the swan, winter comes. the dessert paradise guardian birds have to go find and free/save the swan to stop winter! MAN THIS COULD'VE BEEN THEIR WINTER TO SPRING EVENT NEXT YEAR TOO

idk. maybe also the black sugar duck becomes a cookie because of whatever they did to the swan and is the first release cookie, but we don't KNOW it's them. we can only guess until halfway through the event where we find out they're purposefully leading the dessert guardians astray from finding the sugar swan because they want to continue being beautiful and its a huge conflict! and then swan releases as the second cookie in the event, and we get some characterization for her that's beyond just "she's an indifferent goddess, neither malevolent or benevolent". maybe she willingly GAVE some of her power to the black sugar duck. maybe she's the persephone to the black sugar duck's hades. maybe she's the indifference to the black sugar duck's extreme passion and they balance each other out.

meh idk. i just feel like the sugar swan's release event could have been better thought out instead of being a transparent cash grab. also red panna cotta SHOULD have been playable.

Back in his restraints, Tamlin’s body burned with more need than ever before. It had been ages since they’d tied him back up here and left. Tamlin’s only sense of time was the steady drip drip of his blood as it fell to the ground and hissed. His entire body ached, no part more so than his cock, and he couldn’t get the images out of his mind. Lucien tying him up, Elain forming that collar on him, Lucien biting him, Tamlin’s hands on each of their legs before Lucien stopped him from touching further. He began to worry they’d never come back, but finally they strolled back in, dressed immaculately in clothing fit for a ruling couple. A very familiar crown sat on Lucien’s head. “Yes,” Lucien replied to Tamlin’s unspoken question. “We were just crowned High Lord and Lady. We’ve sent out notices to Summer to start migrating back into Spring. Everyone thinks you’re dead. But you will be soon, anyhow, won’t you?” Tamlin knew better than to answer. Lucien smiled viciously at his utter obedience before saying, “Speak.” “Yes,” he gasped. “Yes, I will be dead soon. So, I ask for one parting gift from you. Please.” Lucien casually slung an arm across Elain’s shoulders, staring Tamlin down coolly. “Yes?” Tamlin shuddered, then got out, “Touch me. Please.” Lucien turned to his wife and ruling lady with amusement. “Did you hear that, Elain? He’s so touch starved he wants us to touch him before he inevitably dies.” Elain laughed lightly. “What do you think, husband? Should we fulfill his last wish?” Lucien tapped a finger to his lips as if he were thinking, and Tamlin was torn between wishing that finger was his own and wanting to suck Lucien’s finger into his mouth. “Well, I’m a benevolent male, so I’d be willing to grant him one last gift before he dies. But only on one condition.” Lucien slowly walked up to Tamlin, savoring the way every step closer made Tamlin more and more desperate. Then he gripped his chin, fingers digging against Tamlin’s cheeks. “One more piece of your power. Not for me,” Lucien said. He turned to Elain. “But for her.” Lucien began to glow like he was the god of the Sun. “Recognize this light, Tam?” Lucien asked seductively as Tamlin gritted his teeth to draw out one more orb of power. “It’s Helion’s light. I’m his son, you see. Have you ever wondered how hot someone could get with both fire and sunlight running through their veins?” Tamlin finally produced the orb, and Lucien nodded at Elain to step forward and take it. Tamlin’s hand dwarfed Elain’s by quite a large margin, her hand unexpectedly rough as it brushed against his. Tamlin found himself stroking his thumb across her hand, unable to resist the urge to touch her-                         Quick as lightning, Lucien’s hand darted to Tamlin’s forearm, fingers digging in. Tamlin hissed as Lucien’s touch heated up, and he dropped Elain’s hand, staring at the brand marks as Lucien released him. “I didn’t give you permission to touch her,” Lucien said in a low and dangerous voice, and Tamlin heard Elain suck in a breath: she was just as aroused as him. Then Lucien turned to Elain. “Let us yield to our beast and conquer him together.” Elain smiled flirtatiously at Lucien. “It would be my pleasure.” Tamlin stared at them in awe as Lucien transformed into an enormous dark red creature with gold spikes all across his back, his eyes the same shade, and wings so large that they would span the length of the stables if he stretched them. He snarled and fire blew out from his mouth. A dragon. Beside him, Elain had also transformed. She had a head disproportionate to the size of her body, with long white wings as graceful as a dove’s. But it was the inquisitive eyes that gave her away: her beast form was a gigantic owl. And all of a sudden, Tamlin knew why Lucien had wanted Tamlin’s orb of power.

Autumn is also the mark of a new semester of anime for me to watch with the anime club I'm in. We started 6 new shows and will pick up 2 more in the spring, as we ended up with shorter ones this time around.

First of, we started with Odd Taxi, which I voted for and am happy to be watching. I tried to watch it when it originally aired, but something about the tone and atmosphere put me off from it. However, it also seemed unique enough that I always felt like I was missing out and needed to get back to it one day, and now I will be forced to watch it, yay!

Then we're watching Gankutsuou, which I also voted for and have been wanting to watch for years. I cannot state how much I love the style. I'm always here for tragedies and revenge stories as well. Beyond that I'm not sure what to expect, since this is NOT the Count of Monte Cristo story I'm familiar with, but I'm super exited to finally be watching it!

Although I didn't vote for Great Pretender, I'm happy to be watching it as well. It always seemed like a fun series, but I think Netflix kept it from me with their dumb release schedules. It's refreshing to watch anime not set in Japan and I love watching the scams unfold, so I'm hoping to have a good time with it.

Then we're watching Kamichu! I like the older style and setting, the gods seem cool, but the protagonist has been a little meh. Others in the anime club said that all the anime we're watching now can be divided into tragedies and dense romances, and I hate dense romances (at least with straight characters) so I'm worried I'll have a bad time with this show. So far I'm pleased that her romantic interest doesn't show her any interest at all, because I'm dead inside I like stories about unrequited feelings (although I'm sure he'll come to like her eventually) and it prevents this from being a "dense romance" in the sense that the characters clearly like each other but are unable to progress their relationship, which is very frustrating most of the time. I'm coming in with some petty prejudices, and I'm hoping to get something more out of this, since I will be forced to watch it anyway.

Back to something exciting and tragic, we're also watching Bokurano, which I've also been wanting to watch for years. I only know that it's a mecha anime where all the kids will die, and that it's apparently one of the most tragic anime ever made. It's a little annoying to be watching it with company, since others keep making comments about that, but the first two episodes had me hooked. I'm super interested in seeing where this will be going, and as an aside, I'm a huge fan of both the opening and the ending. As soon as I left the meeting I had to open up youtube, tap the search bar, and then close my eyes as I typed in "bokurano full op/ed" without a single glance at some unwanted suggestion of "x death" or whatever twist might be coming up.

Lastly, we're watching Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! I've seen the first episode before, and almost left without watching it again, but my fomo and uncertain personality made me stay, and I'm glad I did, because this show is actually quite funny. It helps that the two mains have a close relationship already, and that they're both oblivious to some social cues/norms, so it's not just about them two awkwardly blushing and stuttering together, but them being oddballs in general with good chemistry together. It keeps the denseness less frustrating and more fun. I'm not sure if it'll continue to be funny for 12 more episodes (there are shows that manage that, like GSNK), but so far I don't hate it!

Once we finish the shorter shows, we'll start watching Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road and Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo. I've seen Shoukei Shoujo before, and I liked it okay, although the anime suffers from only scratching the surface of who the characters are. At least I'm looking forward to seeing some of the twists again, because they were really cool! I have no idea what to expect with Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo. I'm hoping for it to be a forgotten gem, but we'll see. I'll keep you updated whenever I have something to update you with!

It’s a date………..It’s literally a date……

Suzu and Kisa went on a date for Christmas, there’s nothing to be said about it. They spent the whole day together, they had Christmas themed lunch and drinks, they went window shopping, they had a super adorable argument about Suzu and mugs. A couple randos even commented on them being a cute couple! Also, Suzu saw Kisa eyeing a pretty hand mirror (which she didn’t buy out of concern for if it would look odd since she’s disguised as a boy) and pretended to go back for a mug when he was secretly buying the hand mirror as a Christmas present for her!

These dumbos haven’t even confessed or even acknowledged having romantic feelings for each other and yet they went out on a date for Christmas, a holiday that’s more romantic coded in Japan…

Also I FUCKING CALLED IT!!!!! Suzu figured out Kisa was a girl!!! And his suspicions became more concrete during the scene from the fourth affection event with the weird guy! Gosh, when he remembers he entered the hot springs with Kisa, it’ll be fantastic!

The scene between them was so wonderfully achingly sweet…Suzu got so stressed when he heard there were conditions for Kisa staying at Univeil. And the way he so aggressively swore to protect her secret……before so softly and desperately begging her to stay. The way he talked about how Kisa’s dream is Univeil itself and Suzu’s dream is to become a Jack Ace with Kisa at his side as his partner….I was clutching my chest and cooing over just how beautiful and precious the moment was, especially with Kisa now having someone other than Sou to confide in, and it’s someone who understands her as well as Suzu does.

Sou’s whole reaction when Kisa and Suzu spoke to him about Suzu now being in the know was so funny 😂 Boy really just punched Suzu and got a boo-boo over it!!! But I love how Suzu just brushed off the punch like “yeah Yonaga punched me but he looked cool like Figaro so I don’t mind!” I can’t wait to see where we go from here now! The casting for the final performance is gonna be released soon, right? Oooooh!!!!!!! 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀

After their second little date they had started texting. A lot. No more insta DM’s. It was proper texting, on kakao, with their numbers, the whole thing. Not like they could help texting a lot, seeing that Taehyung would soon go out of the country, and they could not really do much else for the following four weeks. But. . . you can say it was a bad decision. Bad meaning good.

Lia had not told Jihyo yet, nor anyone else, about the rest of their date. Just a hint at it being perfect, period. She wanted to keep that bliss for herself. For the moment. Nobody else knew a water-lily-wrapped present waited for her back home, nor how anxiously she waited for the sign to open it. So now here she was, on a Monday in March, back from the winter and spring holidays, giggling like a dumbass to some texts from her secret boyfriend.

“Nothing my as—aspirator,” started Junhae as a bunch of kids passed them by.

“Aspirator? That’s one of your best diversions yet,” said Lia.

“Thank you, thank you. All for the innocence of the children. Speaking of which…,” Junhae pointed across the hall and looked at Jihyo. “One such creature is coming to you in tears.”

Jihyo rolled her eyes.

“For the love of bangtan, there’s no peace.”

She turned around.

“What happened, sweetie?”

“Seonsengnim, Yoona and Taeyeon are fighting over girl groups again.”

“Ah, here we go.”

The table was suddenly surrounded by girls. Lia took that as a cue to return to her phone.

She had another message.

Lia caught her gasp before it came out.

She peeked around.

Jehyun was busy pretending he wasn’t listening to the girl’s dramatic retelling of the feud. Jihyo was, well, solving feuds.

She looked back at the text.

He’d texted her a number of things that were bad for her sanity and her physical health, cardiacally speaking. Like the clichéd, “how did you sleep?”. There was also the infamous, “I’m looking at dusk and it reminded me of you”. Like, how dare he? But this. This? The “I would be able to kiss you more too” is by far the worst. Going down the history books of texting that is fatal for the heart.

“Then visit me more often,” she wanted to write. “So you can kiss me all you want.” She settled for something more staid.

Lia glared at Junhae. She turned to Jihyo. The girl group drama kids were now gone. For how long had they been gone? Why were they staring? She pretended her face was not red.

Jihyo looked at Lia funny, and she was going to say something. However, the bell rang and Lia flew off the bench before anyone could say anything. She ignored the questioning look on their faces and shot them an apologetic smile.

“It’s arts o’clock.”

A lie. She had a free period.

She dashed across the corridor and checked the last incoming message.

           tvh: I will be there soon

           tvh sent a voice message

“TEACHER, LOOK OUT!”

Lia bumped into the wall.

A bad decision, you could say.

“I’m good, I’m good!”

Good as new. Good as a goat. Good as hell.

She zoomed through the halls and crowds of kids faster than the beating of her heart. Her mouth was dry, as if she had eaten a sunflower.

She ran to the teacher restroom and played the voice note, phone pressed against her ear.

“Hi,” his deep voice uttered, “Just wanted to say that I can’t wait to see you. Wait for me, sunflower.”

Wait for me, sunflower.

Behind the Scenes of Noah Schnapp’s ‘Stranger Things’ Premiere Look

"I had many fans of him contacting me on Instagram and suggesting to see Noah in pink," says his stylist. "So after discussion and many times trying to find the perfect outfit, we finally decided to go with the pink tone."

The fourth season of “Stranger Things” comes to Netflix this summer and over the weekend the cast gathered for the premiere in New York. WWD chatted with star Noah Schnapp’s stylist Philippe Uter about the Dior look he chose for Schnapp, accessorized with an unreleased Hublot watch.

WWD: Tell us about the look you created for Noah for the premiere.

Philippe Uter: I really had the desire of dressing Noah in a brand that we never used before. Something trendy, cool but still luxury. Noah is between the teenager and adult life so I couldn’t go too classic nor too young. That is why I decided to collaborate with Dior on this appearance. It is the perfect combination between elegance and streetwear. I always have been a fan of Mr. Kim Jones and I thought this could start a great relationship between the iconic fashion house and us.

WWD: What made you go in this direction?

P.U.: Noah wore lots of toned down colors such as black, navy, beige or light blue. He only wears stronger colors for press appearances where we can play a little bit more. I had many fans of his contacting me on Instagram and suggesting to see Noah in pink. So after discussion and many times trying to find the perfect outfit, we finally decided to go with the pink tone from the spring/summer 2022. We didn’t want to do a full pink look either so I thought, due to the summer coming (finally), mixing with white can be a nice touch on the carpet.

WWD: How long have you worked with Noah?

P.U.: I have been working with Noah since he was 12 year old, so five years ago (I can’t believe he is turning 18 soon). We started our collaboration a bit before the promo of “Stranger Things” season two. I was already a fan of the show and loved these kids’ energy on carpets and promo.

WWD: Are there messages/themes you’ve tried to convey with his style this press tour?

P.U.: The last press tour, we tried to find the best combo between fashion and comfortable/young. This season, it is a bit the same but with a grown up version of it. I tried to go with trendy brands but also cool and easy to wear. Such as Jacquemus, Celine, Acné, Ami Paris, Lacoste, Fauré Le page, Santoni.

WWD: What are some special details about the look?

P.U.: To complete the look, we added a Hublot watch. It resumes pretty well what I said earlier, as it is very luxurious but young and super fun due to its violette shades. This watch is actually showing in exclusivity on Noah’s wrist as it has not been released yet. Also, Noah is wearing a silver necklace chain by Dior. It also gives a little kick to the look.

WWD: Who is your style inspiration for Noah?

P.U.: I am trying as much as possible to not have any inspiration so I can create with Noah something unique to him. I do think about Timothée Chalamet and Justin Bieber a lot. First, due to their similar body shape but also as both have a very strong style: one more fashionable and chic, the other more trendy and street.

Summary: Returning to Hawkins for spring break, Aria is finally glad to be back at home to see her mom and friends. However, she soon finds out that the danger they’ve all faced before, is back yet again. This time, she may or may not fall at the center of it.

However, her race does not affect the story, whatsoever. You, as the reader, are free to imagine her however you want. If you don’t see her as South Asian, then that’s fine. It won’t affect the storyline.

“When he attacks, our friend described it as a trance.” Aria told him. “Like a waking nightmare. Which is why we think he's coming for her next.” Aria breathed out, trying to get him to speak. “Does any of this, anything we just told you, sound like what had happened to your family?”

He continued to stay silent, rubbing his hands together.

“Victor.” Aria spoke out his name. “I know this is hard…”

“You don't know anything!” He shouted.

Aria took a deep breath, drowning out absolutely everything around her. “No. I may not know exactly. But…” Her heart raced. “I know what it feels like to lose your entire family in a matter of minutes.” Victor stayed still, not moving. “I…I lost my parents. My mom and dad. They died in a fire.” She didn’t even realize what she was saying, she just found herself releasing the words out of her lips without thinking. “I was left alone. The only one left.”

Nancy and Robin’s gazes were on Aria the entire time, processing the girl’s words. They were confused. Extremely confused. Nancy’s eyebrows were furrowed, her lips parting. She couldn’t tell if this was entirely made up but the way Aria spoke was genuine. Super genuine.

“So yes. I may not completely understand what you went through but we want to. Which is why we're here.” Aria continued. “To learn, to understand.”

Aria didn’t even realize the two girls were still next to her until Robin started talking. “We need to know how you survived that night.”

“Survived?” Victor exclaimed, standing up. “Is that what you call this? Did I survive?” He walked closer to the bars. “No, I assure you, I am still very much in hell.”

The girls listened intently to Victor’s words, his story of everything that happened. From the start of them moving in, to the sudden happenings in the house. He talked about dead animals, to the spiders, to the nightmares. He explained how the demon tormented them, even their daughter Alice.

He said he could tell the demon was always close and that it was always hiding in the shadows of their home. How it had cursed their town, their home, and them.

He talked about how one night while they were having dinner, the radio started to play music by itself, the lights flickering all of a sudden. He said it had taken his wife, Virginia, first. Her body levitating towards the ceiling, her bones breaking, and her eyes sucked to the back of her head.

He said he tried to get him and his kids out of the house but the door wouldn’t open. Then suddenly, he was back in the war. A memory. He was so sure the demon was going to take him next but then he heard an angel’s voice. He followed the voice but then he was back to reality, facing his children who lay dead on the floor. Alice died immediately, while Henry had fallen into a coma, where he died a week later.

He said he tried to join them by cutting out his eyes but Dr. Hatch stopped the bleeding, not letting him die.

“The angel that you followed…” Nancy started to say. “Who was she?”

Victor didn’t answer. Instead, he started to hum, laying down on his bed and hugging his pillow.

“Victor?” Aria called out. “Victor.”

The door suddenly opened, the girls turning around in surprise. “Is he everything you hoped he would be?” Hatch exclaimed angrily. “I just had a very interesting conversation with Professor Brantley. Perhaps we should discuss in my office while we wait for the police.”

Aria breathed heavily, knowing they were now caught red handed. They just had to find a way to leave before the police came.

“You're not listening!” Aria exclaimed. “Our friend is in danger.”

“Do you really expect me to believe anything you have to say at this point?” Hatch responded.

“It's the truth.” Nancy told him.

“You are free to tell your sob story to the police.”

They walked outside. “Victor said the night of the attack, everything went on in the house, but he made specific mention of music. He said music was playing.” Robin told them. “And then, when we asked him about the angel, he started to hum.” Robin started to sing the song Victor was humming that Nancy immediately recognized.

“Dream a Little Dream of Me.” Nancy said in realization.

“Yes. Ella Fitzgerald.” Robin said.

“The voice of an angel.” Aria said, catching on.

“Yeah.” Robin answered. “Hatch said that music can reach parts of the brain that words can't. So maybe that's the key, a lifeline.”

“A lifeline back to reality.” Aria stated, looking between Nancy and Robin.

“It's worth a shot.”

Aria looked behind her, seeing the guards still behind them. “I think we can beat him.”

“What?” Robin asked.

“To the car.”

“Okay. I'm warning you right now, I have terrible coordination.” Robin admitted. “Took me six months longer to walk than all the other babies.”

Aria shook her head. “Just follow my lead.”

She started to run, with Nancy and Robin following. Robin screamed out an “Oh my God!” Before trying to keep pace with the two girls, running very strangely.

They managed to outrun the guards, with them chasing after the girls. The girls finally made it to Aria’s car, getting inside. Aria quickly locked the doors as both Nancy and Robin screamed at her to go. The guards started to knock on the doors, trying to get them out, but Aria drove off, leaving them all behind.

Aria laughed nervously, looking at Robin through the rear view mirror. “You really are a weird runner.”

Suddenly, the walkie-talkie went off next to Robin, the sound of Dustin’s voice yelling being heard throughout the car. “Robin, where the hell are you? This is a code red. I repeat, a code red!”

“Dustin, it's Robin. We copy.”

“Holy shit. Finally! Please, please tell me you guys have this figured out.” Dustin exclaimed.

Aria continued to drive as Robin told Dustin that music was the key to help a person escape Vecna. Dustin told them Vecna had finally gotten to Max, the girl not waking up in the slightest.

When Aria heard that, her heart raced, speeding the car towards their location when Dustin mentioned where they were. She needed to get to her as soon as possible because if anything happened to her, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself. She swore she would always try to protect the kids.

She sped as fast as she could, making their way towards the graveyard where Max and the others were. The girls got out of the car, Aria running as quickly as she could towards their figures. She saw Max in Lucas’ arms, tears streaming down her face.

“Oh my God,” Aria breathed out, the others looking up to see the three girls now present. She crouched down onto the ground, bringing her arms around Max to hug her, the redhead pulling away from Lucas to squeeze the older girl tightly in return. She could feel her shaky breaths vibrating on her chest, her heart aching. She rubbed Max’s back, trying to calm her down. “You’re okay. You’re okay, Max.”

They all drove back in the two separate cars to the Wheeler’s house in silence. No one said anything to anyone. They were so close to losing Max and if the girls hadn’t given Dustin the information in time, she surely would have been gone. Aria didn't even want to think of that

They situated themselves back into the basement, everyone at a loss for words.

“So, basically, we now know music is the key to escape Vecna.” Steve said, trying to break the silence.

“Supposedly.” Nancy answered. “I mean, we weren’t even sure because Victor didn’t exactly say what he heard while he was explaining his story.”

“So, you guys just assumed?” Lucas asked, furrowing his brows.

“I…yes.” Nancy responded. “But, it’s a good thing we were right.”

Aria was about to leave the basement to get a glass of water when she heard Robin’s voice, causing her to stop. “Speaking of stories…Aria made up a pretty crazy one to get Victor to talk.”

“Like what?” Dustin asked.

Nancy’s eyes stuck on Aria’s form, her body turned away from them so they were only able to see the back of her body. She noticed how she didn’t move, standing very still.

“She talked about how she lost both her parents in this fire or whatever, which is like, kind of messed up to make up just so you could get a person to talk but I guess it worked out.” Robin laughed. “But, the funny thing was that she sounded so genuine that I almost believed her. It obviously wasn’t true though because her mom is literally alive.”

Aria’s breath hitched, her mouth slightly agape. One of her hands was gripping the railing of the staircase harshly, as if she were to let go, she would collapse onto the ground.

Steve noticed Aria’s unmoving body as well, watching her be completely stiff. “Aria?”

The others stared at her form, waiting for any sort of answer or movement.

“Riya? Are you okay?” Steve asked again.

This time, Aria turned around. They all noticed the tears streaming down her face. Everyone’s mouths parted in surprise and confusion.

“It wasn’t made up.” Aria answered truthfully.

Jellycat Review: Bashful Bunny (medium, apple) 🎀

It's almost Easter time. My store has just completed our yearly "Bunny Buy" in anticipation of the influx of Rabbit Enthusiasts. I wade through seas of Bashful Bunnies every single day, and to be honest, I'm not crazy about them. But what's this? A single Bunny in particular catches my eye. It's lime green (green is one of my favorite colors), it has a cute white tail, and its flopped over from a severe stuffing deficit. Apple is one of my favorite words, and this particular beast is irresistibly flopsy, so I'm unable to restrain myself from purchasing my first Bashful Bunny...

The specs 🎀

Fur texture: 7/10

Bashful Bunnies are soft. Their fur is pretty inoffensive... it has a nice, pleasant silkiness that unfortunately gets disheveled rather easily. I can't really rate it too low because jellycat fur, even at its most average, is way more pleasant that the norm, but compared to the "Beautifully Scrumptious" fur of the coveted smudge collection, it's nothing to write home about.

Design: 6/10

Something about the Bashful Bunnies... They're not ugly by any sense of the word, but personally, I'm not super fond of them. Their arms are very thin in person, their faces are occasionally laughably malformed, and their noses are just a bit too big for my tastes. HOWEVER... The brightly colored spring Bunnies of the most recent release are pretty adorable! Their precious white tails add a great pop of contrast, and the vibrant colors just add a special something to their design that I feel the more muted BB's lack. I appreciate their large ears, though, and they're pleasant to hold. Their necks fit well in my hand, and those long ears are great for grabbing and stroking. My bunny is slightly understuffed, which I adore, since slouchy plushies have a great appeal to me. Keep in mind that every bashful bunny has a unique face, so I recommend purchasing in person, if at all possible.

Size: 8/10

Medium BB's are superior to their larger counterparts, in my opinion. They can sit in your hand, provide an acceptable hug, and be carried around easily. They're not TOO small, at a respectable H12" × W5" inches, but they're not particularly big either. A great every day plush that fits in a bag or can be carried around somewhat discreetly.

Accessibility:

As of 2/13/23, Bashful Bunnies are literally everywhere. They're one of, if not the most, beloved and well known jellycat designs, so they're not in danger of retirement any time soon. If you can't find a bunny in the Apple color, they also have Zingy (chartreuse), Fern (a softer, more understated green), and Forest (a deep, darker green). Retail price is $25.00 (all BB's are), and the second hand market seemingly isn't asking for too much. You can find an Apple bunny if you look.

Overall 🎀

I like my Apple Bunny! I liked him enough to buy him, which is more than can be said for literally every other Bashful Bunny. Mine also had a few appealing defects which drew my attention, though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. This is one plushie I'm not afraid to cuddle with, because I'm not particularly worried about damaging him or ruining his fur. For that reason, I actually spend more time with Apple than I do some of my favorite plushies. Apple Bunny provides a valuable service. It is a thankless job, but an essential one. I can't lay my entire body onto my precious Wilf, for example, what if I crush his fur? His brothers and sisters are too valuable for this task, so it falls to the intrepid Apple to suffer being flattened every night, and shaken violently about like a fuzzy maraca whenever I need to stim.

Overall, I'd rate my Apple Bunny a 7.5/10. Here's a picture of my unfortunate friend. Note the misaligned eyes and the slouch.

Here’s everything I opened during my Transformers unboxing birthday stream on my Twitch Channel. I haven’t really transformed them, unless I needed to out of the box, and probably won’t transform all of them any time soon.

Generations Selects DK-2 Guard - Is that really his name or is it a job designation? Cool color scheme inspired by 80′s vans and a great chance to actually own the Ironhide mold since the actual Ironhide is so freaking hard to find.

Kingdom Tigatron - Pretty good figure! Was it the best of last year? Maybe. I actually got 2 of these because the first one I ordered took so long that I figured it was lost in the mail. So I got a refund and ordered another one, but then the first one eventually showed up. Year of the Tiger!

Kingdom Airrazor - Nice to have.I already felt familiar with it due to previously opening the Amazon exclusive set with Maximal Skywarp, and that is a great figure. Now I only need Dinobot and I’ll have all the Beast Wars season 1 Maximals.

Kingdom Tracks - I’ve heard some bad things about this figure as far as how it holds together. Mine seems ok so far. I wonder why there is what looks like a hex code that says #F0680 on his right leg.

Earthrise Cybertron Villains - Skywarp and Thundercracker! Very greatful to have been able to obtain this set when I did. I like that they have different faces and I really like the shade of blue used on Thundercracker.

Kingdom Hot Rod - Very cool tiny Core class figure. To me, he’s going to be partnered with Star Convoy. I really dig the sword.

Kingdom Waspinator - Very different from the Generations Waspinator released in the 30th anniversary line a few years ago, but still feels like Waspinator to me.

Generations Selects Artfire and Nightstick - Picked these up at TFcon in December. Very cool to own a new version of what was once an obscure, difficult to find Japanese release in the vintage line.

Legacy Iguanus - An awesome little figure with such a cool monster lizard look! The hips on mine are a bit floppy though. Not sure if that’s common or not.

Kingdom Ractonite - You gotta love Fossilizers! So much creative possibility in these bony figures. The recent Hasbro Pulse sale also included another Fossilizer named Tricranius and I have no idea why I didn’t add that one to my order. I should have bought it.

Kingdom Blaster - Super cool figure! Very successful at evoking the vintage character in his animated look. I love the spring loaded cassette slot. I could just open and close it all day long. It’s cathartic.

Studio Series 86 Perceptor - Looks pretty good. Maybe wish his colors were a little more vibrant and that the dials were somehow functional. He looks like he should be more interactive but those details are just molded on.

Earthrise Skylynx - Impressive. Magnificent. What more can be said? Probably the best possible version of Skylynx we ever could have gotten.

Siege Omega Supreme - Finally! Been waiting a long time to open the box of this big fella. Took awhile to actually get one in the first place! He looks huge and impressive, and I’m looking forward to putting him on my shelf, squaring off with Devastator! 

As you can see, there are still a few more boxes to be opened, and with TFcon happening in a few weeks, more will be added to that stack, so there will be definitely be another unboxing on Twitch in the near future.

Lily Meola

Recently I was able to connect with Lily Meola for a Zoom interview to discuss her uplifting new single called “Without You.” I asked Lily about her music upbringing, how she stays motivated as an artist, how she measures success as well as her breakthrough single “Daydream,” and what next year has in store for her promising musical career. Thank you so much for your time today, Lily. I heard your new single, called “Without You,” that was recently released and I immediately gravitated towards your sound on this uplifting breakup anthem. Can you walk me through the writing process for this particular song? Well first off, thank you for having me and taking the time to chat, and being interested in the song. And yeah, the writing process on this song, it was my last day in Nashville, on a long writing trip, and I had a flight to catch. And this song for some reason just came super naturally to us. It was done in an hour and a half if I remember correctly…sometimes it just really flows. And for some reason, this day, it all came out really fast. And I was kind of inspired by the feeling of young love and how heartbreaking it can be, but also wanted to keep it light-hearted. And even though you feel those pains, it’s all just part of the journey. Those ups and downs, you got to just still appreciate the moments. Absolutely! Who’s in your “trusted circle” that you test out new music with? Is it the live audiences that you play to, or your management?  Honestly, a little bit of both of that. I’ll send it to a couple of close friends, and I’ll even test some of the songs live and see what the audience reaction is like. And then, yeah my management definitely weighs in as well. But if there’s a song that I’m really into, I don’t care what anybody else thinks. If it just feels natural to me, and I’m excited about it, then others opinions probably aren’t gonna change my mind haha. Is that sassy? No, that’s a sign of a true artist, in my opinion! But honestly, sometimes they are convincing me that other songs are better than I think they are. That’s always funny, too. So I forget their opinion. I first got word of your musical career when my son and I attended one of your concerts in Washington, DC. You opened up for Imagine Dragons on that big Capital One Arena show… Yeah, that was such a fun night! You performed cover songs like Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” which went over really well with the audience. I think people were grooving to that, as well as a lot of from your previous EP Daydream. So what was that experience like with sharing your music with such a large audience? Oh, it was so fun, honestly. One of my highlights of last year. His audience is just so into the music, and they’re there to have a good time. And it’s a wide range of audiences, from kids to adults, and everyone’s having fun. And so it was just a really, really good time. I hope one day I get to open for them again. And DC is a really cool place.  Yeah, that’s where I’m from.  Have you been there for a long time? Oh, yeah. I grew up here my whole life. I live in Silver Spring, Maryland, which is about 30 minutes on the metro to Capital One Arena. Did you guys have fun at the show?  Oh, absolutely. Yeah, my son said, “This lady can sing!” So he’s got a little bit of that sweet talent in there too, and an ear for music. He’s 12. So he could have a sassier opinion for sure. Do you have any other upcoming touring plans at this time or for the next year? I just got off a little mini tour with Steven Sanchez, which was so fun. He is just the sweetest person ever. And an unbelievable artist. His show, if you get a chance to see him, unbelievable performance. It was such a great time! I’ve really just been focusing on new music. So I’ll be spending some more time in the studio finishing up some songs. Not doing too many shows right now, but probably more soon. My predictions are usually wrong, anon, heh. The new NCT unit will be a Japan based unit not SEA afterall... WayV became the SEA unit in practice...

With SM being on fire, 127 and Dream renewing their contracts (with new terms), Super M coming back (but not this Spring I think, postponed), Taeil enlisting there is too much uncertainty. Look at how aespa's new song was scratched to get rid of LSM's involvement with it.

In the past SM said it will hold auditions for NCT Tokyo. I guess 2 or 4 Japanese trainees will be added to SungTaro+SRB2022. These days bigger groups are more popular with agencies. Probably 2 members, it's easier to get 2 good ones than 4 good ones. Plus, it will make the unit almost 50/50 to promote in Korea as well (4j+3k).

We know there will be a 127 concert in Hong Kong in 2Q-3Q. SM execs signed the deal after like a week of an offer from the promoter. Johhny said he wants a new concert (not Link). And SM wants 20 concerts per artist. 127 will get a tour with Taeil being shown on screen how they did with Hyuk for the Link US leg, I suppose. And new solo/unit numbers.

WayV is promoting as 5 members right now, however I noticed that many articles used 7 member group pictures (and they were not corrected by SM PR team) to announce the album release. One, two, three, four, five, six. WayV has a storyline with members being kidnapped, so it's not hard to explain an absence of someone lore wise.

New songs for Ten as a soloist and units in summer?

Understanding ABBA's Timeless Appeal

My 50-year-old Puerto Rican father recently became an ABBA super fan. I thought it was just a phase at first. Still, there has not been a single family gathering in the past year in which “Gimme! Gimme!” has not been played at max volume while my Dad's singing completely overpowers the song (And yes, he does know every word, thanks to the Spotify karaoke feature). There is something particularly amusing but also very fascinating about the fact that a Swedish Europop group from the 1970s has managed to catch the attention of not only my father, but enough people to prompt them to go back on tour for the first time in 40 years with over hundreds of thousands of tickets sold. The band was among the most commercially successful music groups during its peak, completely dominating the European charts in the 70s. They received a lot of attention in the U.S. with their catchy pop songs, but their European success was unmatched. In the past few years, ABBA has gained popularity among Gen Z TikTok users, as many video trends on the app have the music group’s hit songs playing in the background. See here. So, what is with this eternal appeal that ABBA has seemed to maintain? Let’s take a trip back to the beginning of ABBA in Stockholm circa 1972, to unpack what it is that made the members of ABBA the Pop Icons they are today.

The supergroup consists of four members: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The name, ABBA, is actually an acronym for the first letter of each of their names. Fun fact: ABBA was also the name of a Swedish canned fish company, but fortunately for the pop group, the company agreed to lend their name. According to their official website, the story of ABBA began when the two men of the group met for the first time in June 1966. Both were already established members of separate music groups- Björn in the folk music group The Hootenanny Singers, and Benny in the Swedish pop group The Hep Stars. They both were creatively inspired by each other, prompting them to write their first song together just a few weeks after meeting. They soon went on to establish a music partnership together, leaving their individual bands behind to pursue a career with each other. In the spring of 1969, Björn and Benny both met two women who went on to become their fiancees, and also the other half of ABBA. Agnetha Fältskog caught the eyes of Björn, and was a successful singer with a solo career that began when she released her first single in 1967. Frida Lyngstad, wife of Benny, had her own recording career that began shortly after Agnethas. In the spring of 1972, the married couples released their first group song, “People Need Love.” Encouraged by their early success, the group went on to enter the Eurovision Song Contest of 1974 with the song “Waterloo,” which took them all the way to the finals in Brighton, England. This Eurovision triumph was one of the most notable moments in ABBA history, prompting “Waterloo” to reach No. 1 on the music charts in Europe and the Top Ten in the United States. 

It can be said that by 1976, ABBA had firmly established themselves as one of the most popular music groups in the industry. By this time, they had released four commercially successful studio albums alongside classic single releases such as “Dancing Queen” and “Fernando,” which topped the charts worldwide. Following the 1976 release of their fourth album, Arrival, the group decided to go on their first tour in Europe and Australia, which was a complete success. The Australian leg of the tour was particularly notable because of the already-high amount of popularity the group happened to garner there. There were around 150,000 people in the audience, with even more fans listening from outside of the venue. The tickets for these shows ranged from around $9 to $12 (!!!!) and the cost for the tour was around $700,000. Despite these high costs, the tour brought the music group a substantial amount of income. Around 1978, the group began a major promotional campaign in the USA, accompanying the release of their sixth studio album, my personal favorite, Voulez-Vous. Some of the standout songs from this album include, “Chiquitita,” “Does Your Mother Know,” and “Angeleyes.” Alongside the positive attention this album received, ABBA’s hit single release, “Take a Chance On Me” reached No. 3 on the U.S. charts and was also certified gold for having one million sales, according to the Billboard official site. It was around this time when Björn and Agnetha publicly announced that they had filed for divorce. This did not equate to the end of ABBA, but it did distort their public image of two happily-married couples making music. 

The track “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” was released as a single a year later, alongside the release of a compilation album titled  Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Both of which received positive reviews and international success. Only emphasizing just how popular and catchy the track truly is, the  Queen of Pop, Madonna, sampled the song “Gimme! Gimme!” in her single “Hung Up,” which debuted at No. 1 on the music charts. It was considered by critics as “Bringing disco back” and ended up becoming one of the biggest hits of her career. Madonna herself has even revealed that she wrote a letter begging the music group for permission to sample this track. Eventually, the last standing couple in ABBA, Benny and Frida, announced their divorce in 1981. This sparked the beginning of the gradual “end” of ABBA’s active career in the limelight. What was portrayed to be their final album, The Visitors, was released to the public that same year. Despite the positive criticism it received, the group proceeded to announce that they were taking a break. Each member individually went on to pursue music in their own right, and they would not work on music as a group for the next 40 years. Most recently, to the surprise of many, ABBA reunited and debuted their first new album since 1981, Voyage. To top it off, they also announced a revolutionary concert experience in which digital avatars would perform in place of the group members through the use of CGI and motion capture technology. 

ABBA’s overall success can be attributed to their uniqueness and theatrical style of music. During a time when rock and roll dominated music, ABBA stood out. And during a time of global conflict, ABBA’s songs provided hopefulness and optimism. Catchy pop melodies and clever wordplay were two elements of the special formula for an ABBA song. Variety magazine uses three words to describe the group: Grand, Pop, and Feminine. And with anything that encompasses these three qualities, there were times when the group was often dismissed and met with negative criticism. Still, ABBA rose above all doubts and judgments. Popular and entertaining enough to have the soundtrack of one of the highest-grossing films ever, Mamma Mia! comprised solely of their songs, there is no doubt that ABBA has a chokehold on the entertainment industry and refuses to let go.

Thrilled to Announce That The Pearlfishers Are Supporting Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas

When curating V4Velindre, I couldn't have imagined that a number of my all-time favourite artists would end up contributing to the album. I still haven't quite got over the shock of having The Wedding Present, Nightingales, Tot Taylor and BOB featuring on an album that I had actually compiled. As soon as I had conceived of the idea for Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas, The Pearlfishers became my number one target. Back in 2014, I blogged a feature on my top 5 Christmas albums. This is what I had to say about The Pearlfishers' A Sunflower at Christmas:

'The Pearlfishers have been making rather wonderful Bacharach/Beach Boys-influenced pop music for over 20 years without anyone paying too much attention to their worthwhile efforts. Their somewhat unheralded mini-album from 2004 should put you in a feel-good mood for the festive period ahead. Lead-singer David Scott penned a half dozen of the seven songs on the album and he generally makes a good fist of capturing the spirit of Christmas, albeit filtered through a modern take on the festive season. The opening track, “Snowboardin”, suggests taking up this winter pastime as a whimsical cure for the stresses and strains of Christmas shopping, while “Winter Roads” and “Blue December” are both well-crafted love songs, reminiscent of mid-period Prefab Sprout, which benefit from a Christmas setting. Perhaps the best track on the album, though, is “The Snow Lamb”. Scott is aiming a lot higher here, endeavouring to write a Christmas classic, no less. It’s a beautiful song, with more than a touch of poetry about its enchanting lyric – 

“A sailing boat of leaves and hay / A silver coat of moonlight rays / A jewelled string from drops of dew / A star to light the path for you”.

The album may be a tad lightweight for some, but the Glaswegians have turned in a memorable collection that’s guaranteed to put a spring in your step as you trudge through the snow to do your last-minute Christmas shopping’.

I want to say a massive thank you to David for taking the time to make this happen. A thank you to Marina records as well. The one difficulty that I had left was to choose a song from the album. “Winter Roads”, above, is one of David’s favourite tracks, but it’s not the one I ended up choosing (but it was very definitely on the shortlist!).

And just so this isn’t all about my personal opinion, here is the introduction to Stewart Mason’s All Music bio of the band - ‘An ever-shifting Scottish group led by singer/songwriter David Scott, the only constant member, The Pearlfishers are a glorious soft pop band mixing acoustic-based music with subtle orchestral flourishes, rather like a Glasgow-based Prefab Sprout with a major Brian Wilson fixation. Since forming in 1989 The Pearlfishers have refined and broadened their sound while maintaining a steadily growing cult following’.

Also contributing are The Photocopies. The Photocopies self-identify as "unapologetically old-school indie pop in a mid-80s-to-early-90s vein, made without secret plans to fill stadiums (ugh). Think lo-fi c86, twee, postpunk janglepop etc". It's no surprise then that they have just released Pop Trivia, a whopping 45-track retrospective on South Africa's super-cool Subjangle label.

Sean Turner, a Londoner based in Michigan, was kind enough to offer up a few Christmas songs, old and new, for our album. In the end, I plumped for "Under Christmas Lights", released in December last year, mainly because its forlorn lyric appeals to a hopeless romantic like me. How can you take issue with an opening verse like this:

'I'm such a loser, sat in the boozer 'Cause you've been gone now all this time Here I remember the day in December Last year when you said you'd be mine'. The band has a busy period ahead intending to release Sweet Sixteen (16-track compilation vinyl LP), Hopelessly Devoted (all-new 7-track mini-album on cassette), Wrong Century (28-track compilation CD) - “Christmas Alone” / “I Know You’re Gonna Ruin This Christmas” (digital single).
