a/n: i've been rewatching squid game and falling in love with saebyeok again so i made this. i'm thinking of writing for her so feel free to send any requests (male/gn only)
requests open !! read my rules first
Tumblr media
your shoulder just barely brushes against saebyeok’s as you sit down next to her. you set the soda down by your feet, peeling the boiled egg in your hands. you remain in silence as you watch the other players continue shuffling through the line, each taking one bottle of soda and a boiled egg each.
your attention is stolen away from your food when a man starts yelling at the guard in front of him. “where’s my food?”
“we prepared enough food for each of the players.” the guard says.
“i didn’t get any! how can you prepare enough if you leave five people without anything?”
from across the room, a woman stands, pointing over at deoksu and his group. he seems unbothered by the sudden attention, simply taking another swing from the bottle of stolen soda. “i saw them take food twice.” deoksu scoffs, looking over at her. the man spins on his heel, walking over to him. he walks up to deoksu, leaning in so their faces almost touch. “do you think it’s funny?” the man asks. “taking someone else’s food?”
deoksu steps back, tilting the bottle in his hand. “this is yours?” he raises an eyebrow. “i don’t see your name on it.”
“you asshole!” the man yells out, grabbing at the bottle. deoksu refuses to let go. they scuffle for a few seconds before the bottle slips from their hands, falling to the ground and shattering. soda spreads across the floor, mixing with the broken glass.
“you fucking idiot,” deoksu hisses, punching the man. you flinch as the man falls to the ground, failing to fight back. deoksu is unrelenting as he continues hitting him until the man lays on the ground, unmoving. he kicks the man’s stomach until he coughs up blood onto the tile floor before finally walking away.
the guards stand unmoving from across the room. dread builds in your stomach as you watch deoksu walk back to his group. you can almost feel the tension spreading across the room, a silent agreement between the players that a fight is going to break out sooner rather than later. a man walks over to the unmoving man, kneeling down next to him. he shakes him a little. “hey, are you alright?” the man presses two fingers against his neck, searching for his pulse point before looking up, confirming what you’re already fearing. the dread starts turning into fear. the realization that it may not only be the games that kill you, but the players as well, sends shivers down your spine.
a man - player 456 stands. “a player is dead!” he yells. he ignores his friend’s pitiful attempt to stop him, walking up to the guards. “how could you just let a player die?”
the guards don’t respond. behind them, the doors open. two more guards enter, carrying a box. “player 174 has been eliminated.” the announcement plays. your eyes stay glued to the guards as they kneel down to place the man’s body into the box before placing the lid on top and carrying it out of the room.
you’re brought back to reality when saebyeok gently nudges you with her knee. “are you okay?” she whispers.
after a few seconds, you reply. “we’re not safe here. what if the fighting continues?”
she glances over at deoksu and his group before refocusing on you. “hey, don’t worry, okay? i’ll protect you.” you look over at her, nodding. despite her reassurances, the fear you’re feeling remains, settling deep into your stomach. saebyeok subtly reaches over to grab your hand, stroking her thumb against your knuckles. “nothing will ever hurt you. not while i’m here. i promise.”
she stares deep into your eyes. their darkness is alluring. you allow yourself to get lost in them. the death games and murder and your suffocating debts don’t matter. at least not right now, with saebyeok holding your hand and promising your safety.
Tumblr media
you’re stiff as you lay in your bed, staring up at the bunk above yours. “lights out in 30 seconds.” the announcement plays. you can barely see the timer on the wall as it counts down. each second feels simultaneously agonizingly slow and increasingly fast.
anxiety continues to build in your stomach as the lights shut off. there’s a few seconds of tense silence before you can hear someone leaving their bed. they creep through between the various bunks until they stop moving. his words are barely audible as he whispers something before a woman screams. the sound makes you flinch. your body freezes. the sound paralyzes you.
you aren’t given any time to react before more people start leaving their beds, mindlessly attacking each other. the overhead lights start flickering above you. you slip out of your bed before the bunk starts falling, desperate to put any distance between yourself and any other players.
you gasp when someone grabs your arm, pushing you back against the brick wall. the breath is stolen from your lungs as they pin you there. you bring your hands up to protect yourself. something slashes into the flesh of your forearm, barely missing your face.
you kick at your attacker, trying to get away. their grip falters slightly, but it isn’t enough for you to break free. adrenaline controls all of your actions. the man pinning you to the wall brings his hand up. he’s holding a piece of broken glass from a soda bottle. he stabs forwards, aiming for your chest. you desperately twist your body away from him. it pierces your shoulder instead, digging deep into your flesh.
you aren’t given any time to dwell on the pain when the man is forcefully pulled off of you. he yells out as he hits the ground, tumbling down away from you. your savior grabs your forearm, pulling you away from the group of men chasing you.
you pant as you follow them into the darkness underneath a bunk. when the lights flash again, you can finally see who they are. saebyeok. she holds your face, eyes fixated on your own. “i’m okay,” you pant, reaching up to grab her hand.
“you’re not,” she murmurs, pressing a hand against your shoulder. you wince at the pressure.
“i will be.” in the flashes of light you can see the blood that coats her jacket and shirt. deep red soaks into the fabric, staining it. “you’re covered in blood.”
“it’s not mine.” the words bring an odd sense of comfort to you. despite their connotation, you feel selfishly grateful that saebyeok’s life was spared in place of someone else’s.
your internal debate is interrupted when she grabs your hand. in the momentary break from the chaos she quickly squeezes it three times. your code. i love you. “come on,” she whispers. “we’re not safe here.” you nod, forcing yourself to stand on shaky knees. she lets you intertwine your fingers, leading you to the other side of the room.
you recognize the man she approaches. player 456. he lets out something akin to a relieved sigh, glancing over saebyeok’s shoulder at you. “you came.”
“you asked.” the shake in her voice is barely noticeable, but you can tell that it’s there. you squeeze her hand, glancing behind you. deoksu pants, gripping saebyeok’s pocket knife in his hand. you pull her with you out of the way, grunting as your injured shoulder slams against the ground.
another man steps in, swinging a metal pipe he must’ve gotten from the bunks at deoksu. you clamber to your feet as saebyeok positions her body in front of yours.
all around you, the fighting continues. you kick another man away from you, wrestling the pipe he holds out of his hands and swinging it against his temple. bile builds in your throat as his body collapses to the floor.
saebyeok’s hand slipping into your own once again spreads relief throughout your body. she keeps you close to her before the old man starts yelling from somewhere above you. “stop it!” his voice shakes. “at this rate, we’re all going to die! i’m scared!”
the lights turn on almost immediately. the doors swing open to reveal a group of guards. a man in a square mask raises a handgun, firing multiple shots into the ceiling.
the chaos stops almost immediately. you drop the pipe in your hand, watching as the guards begin to approach. you only let go of saebyeok’s hand when they raise their guns at you, ordering you to turn around as they pat you down.
your hands shake as you keep them raised. behind you, a guard leans in, his voice low. “player 456, is there a man named hwang in-ho here?”
“we don’t know each other’s names.” he responds. the guard doesn’t outwardly react, instead moving on to pat down the rest of the players.
you drop your hands back down to your side when the guards regroup in front of the door. they hold their guns over their chest. behind them, another swarm of guards approaches. they carry coffins decorated to look like a present box.
you sit back down next to saebyeok on the remains of a bunk bed. she reaches over to grab your hand, squeezing it in hers. you watch as the guards silently pick up each corpse, placing them into the coffins before setting the lid on top and carrying them out - two per box.
once you’re sure the fighting has stopped, saebyeok turns her attention to your shoulder. her hands are gentle as she peels your jacket out of the way before you slip your arm out of the shirt underneath to give her full access to the wound. she presses a nearby blanket against it to stop the bleeding, cursing under her breath. “i don’t think you’ll need stitches.”
you nod to yourself. “that’s good.” the words feel as hollow as they sound.
“do you know who did this?”
“no,” you wince as she increases the pressure. “it was too dark.”
saebyeok doesn’t outwardly react again, instead ripping the blanket apart into a makeshift bandage. she wraps it around your arm, checking it periodically to make sure it isn’t bleeding too much. her voice is barely a whisper when she speaks again. she leans in so her lips ghost against your neck, breath warm against your skin. it sends shivers down your spine. it always has whenever she takes care of you. “come find me tomorrow. the fighting won’t stop tonight.”
saebyeok pulls away when you give a curt nod. carefully, you guide your arm back into the shirt before pulling your jacket back up over your shoulder. she reaches over to grab another clean blanket from a different bed. she places it over your lap before sitting down so close to you that your knees touch. she sits on your right side in between you and the group of men you’ve tentatively agreed to work with. you move the blanket so it rests over her lap as well. you can tell she’s grateful when her knee gently knocks into yours three times. i love you.
silence falls over you for a few minutes before player 456 speaks again. “we don’t know each other’s names.” he says.
“i know yours,” one of them points. “ssangmun-dong.”
“ah, that’s where i’m from,” the man chuckles. “my name is seong gihun.”
“i’m cho sangwoo.” another man introduces. he’s wearing a thin pair of glasses that frame his face. “what’s your name?”
“ali,” the man smiles, glancing between sangwoo and gihun. “ali abdul.”
gihun nods before turning to you and saebyeok. “and you?”
saebyeok glances at him. you keep your gaze fixated on her, waiting for her cue on what to say. “why do you need to know our names?”
“if we’re going to work together we should at least build a little bit of trust, starting with our names.”
saebyeok looks away, staring straight ahead. “i don’t trust you. especially not someone who was dumb enough to end up here.”
“you trust them,” gihun gestures to you. this time she glares at him.
“don’t talk about them. don’t even look at them.”
he sighs. “you don’t trust people because they’re trustworthy. you trust them because there’s nothing else to rely on.”
saebyeok glances at you for a second before turning back to gihun. “kang saebyeok.”
“saebyeok,” he repeats. “that’s a nice name. it doesn’t suit you, though.”
“l/n y/n.”
gihun nods in acknowledgement, turning his attention to the old man. “and you, sir? what’s your name?”
“my… my name…” his voice shakes. his eyebrows furrow. he squints as if he’s searching through his memory. a part of your heart aches for him. you wonder how he’s ended up here. “my name…”
you can practically watch as gihun’s face falls. he leans down to place a hand on his shoulder, patting it gently. “it’s okay,” he smiles. “you know, sometimes when i get really stressed, i can’t remember my address or my security code.”
the man dismissively nods at him before he continues staring at the floor. “my name…” he mutters to himself.
“we should get some sleep,” sangwoo interrupts. “we’ll need it for our game tomorrow.”
“that’s a good idea,” gihun agrees. he sits down on the stairs, leaning against the metal of the bunk.
silence falls over the room once again. suddenly, without warning, the lights turn off, leaving you in darkness. apprehension builds in your stomach. saebyeok reaches over underneath the blanket to grab your hand, squeezing it three times. i love you. she coaxes you to lean your head onto her shoulder. “sleep.” she whispers. you glance up at her questioningly. “don’t worry, i’ll protect you.”
you nod, letting out a sigh. exhaustion hits you hard and sudden. despite your circumstances, saebyeok’s presence next to you manages to make you feel safe, as she always does. her body feels warm against yours. her arm wraps around your waist, coaxing your head from her shoulder down into her lap. she runs her hand through your hair, twisting the strands in between her fingers. a warm feeling spreads throughout your body. overwhelming warmth. safety. love. your body relaxes until you let yourself fall asleep, safe in saebyeok’s protection.

Hi! Your writing is wonderful, and I wanted to wish you the best of luck on your exams in advance 🥰 could you imagine the stoic Sang-woo proposing to his girlfriend? Idk the idea of him being in a relationship and coming to terms with his emotions fascinates me. Thanks!
Sweet Proposal
Pairing: Cho Sang-woo x GN!Reader
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 2,2k
A/N: Awww thank you, dear anon! I truly appreciate your kind words, it means the world to me 🥺💓 I have to say that I agree with you and I absolutely loved your idea for this request! I hope you enjoy my writing and I wish you the best <33 I wrote this request a long time ago and never posted it idk why, but here goes (my apologies🥺)
Tumblr media
You and Sang-woo have been dating a few years now: you met him through his mother, the woman who you visited everytime you passed by her store and who you always bought something fresh to eat. Her products were of great quality, besides the fact that she was the kindest woman you have ever met in your entire life. She treated you like her own daughter/son, and since you lived by yourself in south korea, you really appreciated having someone who you could count on. Whenever you had a bad day, you would tell her and she would help you by giving you the best advices from her life experience, so your relationship was pretty close. Until one day, her son visited her, and that's when you met the love of your life.
"Good morning, miss Cho!" you greeted your second mother as you liked to call her, only for her to turn to you with the biggest smile and bright eyes on her face, as always. However, this time she had company.
"Oh, my sweet Y/N! Come here sweetie, please let me introduce you my wonderful son, Cho Sang-woo!" she seemed so excited, in contrast to her son who seemed pretty serious and uncomfortable with the all situation.
"Hey." he simply said with a low, yet neutral tone, making you realize that he was quite the opposite from his mother: she shined even in the darkest days, while he somehow brings darkness wherever he goes to. But the fact that he had such a hard personality to deal with and understand, instead of pushing you away, only made you even more curious about that mysterious man. Besides the fact that he is incredibly handsome, but that's another story.
"Hey there! I'm L/N Y/N, nice to meet you." you put your hand in front of him so you wouldn't be just standing there looking awkwardly at each other. He looked at it for a second, before taking it and shaking it gently, like he was afraid to break your way smaller hand.
"I'm so happy you finally met my son! I'm sure you two will get along just perfectly!" her joy was contagious, yet her own son didn't seem to let his mother's charm get him. You heard her talking about her amazing son so many times, saying how he was a kind man, and extremely intelligent and responsible. Yet, here he is, looking like his life was a complete chaos.
"Yeah, I'm sure we will." you answered shyly, only for him to look at you with a surprised expression. You simply smiled at him, making him blush slightly at your cuteness.
Now you are in the bed with your soulmate by your side, watching him sleep peacefully: who would have known you two would get here? Together?? You didn't know the right answer for that as well, but the truth is that life can really surprise you.
You were Sang-woo’s first love: the only person who stood with him no matter how many problems he had, both professionally and psychologically. You would never give up on him, and that's what made him realize you were the love of his life, the soulmate he was unconsciously looking for so desperately. No one would ever guessed, but one of Sang-woo’s main goals in his life is creating a family who loved and supported him until the end, to feel the happiness and comfort of waking up every day next to his significant other. However, before meeting you, his problem was that he never had the patience or motivation to find love or to continue to please his possible partner until they fell for him. No, he wanted to focus on his professional career first, the rest just being mere details. What made him fall for you, was your dedication to be with him and build a promising life by his side, supporting him and helping him whenever he needed: you were also the first and only person who he told about his fears, insecurities and feelings about certain topics, but only after a few, long months of building trust and courage. And you did the same: you considered him your best friend, because he always helped you with the most racional advices, which were the best in your opinion.
After a few minutes of analyzing lovingly every feature that you knew so well of your loved one, you noticed him moving slightly and groaning from waking up from his precious sleep.
"Good morning, tough guy." you joked, only to receive a confused expression from him just before he rolled his reddish eyes and laugh at the nickname.
"Good morning, babe." his voice was so deep that it made you have inappropriate thoughts, however you knew he was too tired for it right now. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, I actually did. As for you, I think I don't even have to ask." you laughed at his still sleepy state, before putting your legs over him and hug his long torso. He pulled you closer, closing the space that separated your hungry lips before kissing you slowly, yet with the perfect amount of passion and love.
"Yeah, I really needed to rest my mind and body from yesterday." you shyly laughed at him before hitting his arm when he reminded you from your passionate love session from the night before.
"You silly!" the moment you called him that, he rolled you over so he could be on top.
"Call me that again and see what happens." he warned you with a serious face, yet you knew him better. He was obviously messing with you, and you would be lying if you said you didn't like his demanding behavior.
"Can you join me in the shower, babe? Please?" you decided to change the subject, giving him the pleading look that you knew he couldn't resist.
"Yeah, sure." he smiled before giving you a quick kiss on the lips. "Just wait for me, I'll be right back."
"Ok, I'll wait for you." you gave him a last peck on his lips, before making your way to the bathroom, unconscious of what was coming for you.
That day your boyfriend invited you to dinner at a fancy restaurant, so you thought it would be a simple date like the many you've had before. But this time, he had promising plans for you and your future together, something you weren't expecting to happen so soon. It was already 7:30 pm, so he called you to hurry so you could be on time at the restaurant.
"I'm coming!" you warned your handsome boyfriend, before you appeared in front of him dressing your favorite date outfit that he bought you a few days ago.
"You look gorgeous, sweetheart." his eyes were full of love, admiration and pride for you, making your heart melt with happiness. You felt so loved at that moment... you still couldn't believe you were dating that man.
"Thank you, love. Let's go." you thanked him, before leaving your house and walk to get into his expensive black car.
You and Sang-woo arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes earlier, so you took your time to sit at your reserved table. The restaurant was outstanding: everyone was dressed nicely and the environment was peaceful and romantic; it was an expensive and well known restaurant from your city, which made you feel important. You also felt really happy to know that your boyfriend took you on a date at a very welcoming and beautiful place: it meant that he really loved you and makes a real effort to build up your relationship by changing your routine from time to time, which was healthy for both of you.
A few hours passed and you talked about everything and anything: your plans for your future together, funny stories that happened in your childhood that you didn't know about, how work was going and who are the people you like or dislike... it was a really nice, yet nostalgic and interesting conversation. After that, he insisted to pay your dinner. You felt bad, so he promised next time you could pay, which you knew he was lying.
When you left the restaurant, hand in hand, he told you that his plans for that night weren't done yet.
"I need you to do something for me, honey." your future husband said as soon as you entered the car. You looked at him suspiciously, waiting for whatever was coming. "Close your eyes." he simply said.
"What? Why would you-"
"Just trust me, ok? It's not like I'll kidnap you or something." he made sure to use his sarcasm to relax you a little bit, indirectly telling you that he wasn't going to do anything bad.
"I wouldn't mind if you did so." your sassy comment made him laugh quietly, before you closed your eyes and heard his car running.
Minutes passed and you were starting to get bored with having your eyes closed for so long. At least his strong grip on your inner thigh kept you entertained during the car trip. Suddenly, you felt the car stop slowly, and that's when you realized you had finally arrived at your destination. You were about to open your eyes, when you felt a smack on your thigh.
"Ah! I didn't say you could open your eyes already, did I?" his demanding tone made you internally scream and blush hard, but you needed to remain calm to not lead things to another way, since you didn't want to ruin the plans he made for you.
He helped you getting out of the car, before putting his hand on your waist to guide you to the place where he would make the big proposal.
"Open your eyes, love." he whispered into your ear. The moment you opened your eyes, tears instantly made their way to your warm cheeks: you could watch and admire each star on the sky, shining in your direction; it was full moon night, which made you think that Sang-woo chose this specific night for that reason; in front of you, you could also see and hear the calm and relaxing dark-blue sea moving at a slow and therapeutical pace. It was the most romantic moment you ever had and even imagined. You were too focus on the ocean and the brilliant stars above you, that you didn't even notice what was written on the sand: "Will you marry me, Y/N?" was written in huge and well marked letters. This made your heart beat at an incredibly fast pace and your vision to go blurry due to the emotional warm tears that wanted to escape from your eyes.
"Baby, what's all of thi-" when you turned around in hope that the man of your life would explain what was happening at that moment, even tho you knew already, you saw him kneeling instead, looking at you nervously with a small black box on his hands which contained a shining ring inside.
"L/n Y/n, I know I'm not the best lover sometimes due to my emotionless personality, however you liberate a more loving, caring and passionate side of me that I never knew I could have until I met you. I never thought I could be so in love with someone... and to be honest, I didn't even know what was love before I kissed you for the first time. I'm sorry for all the times I made you upset, but I promise I'll be a better person for you. So... will you marry me, my love?" you never saw your boyfriend being so open with his feelings, not even towards you, so you knew this was extremely hard for him and that all what he was saying was the pure truth. Also for the first time you noticed Sang-woo cry in front of you, even though he remained with a neutral facial expression.
Deep inside, you knew he feels a lot, he just used this "mask" to hide his vulnerability and pretend he is emotionless. But with you, he doesn't feel the need to pretend to be strong all the time. And that's when he realized it was you who he was going to marry and spend the rest of his life with.
You couldn't help but cry in front of him, his action caughting you by surprise, in a good sense.
"Of course my love, of course I will marry you!! There is nothing I desire more than to have you as my husband." he smiled until his cheeks started to get sore: this moment was unique and special for both of you. You always made him forget any pain he might feel. He quickly stood up and picked up into his arms, spinning you over and over again until you both felt almost dizzy.
That night was unforgettable for both of you, and now that you had a wedding ring on your finger, you couldn't think about anything else than stepping onto the altar and marry the man of your dreams.

Can you do kang saebyeok with "come over here and make me."?? Pretty please ♡
Tumblr media
— pairing saebyeok x fem!reader | wc 0.4k | prompt "come over here and make me." | note AHHH thank you <3
Tumblr media
12:24 pm
even with her introverted demeanor, kang saebyeok was still incredibly bold. you had the lovely chance of learning this after you had grown the balls to ask her out, and since that moment on, your girlfriend took every opportunity she got to remind you just how much she had you wrapped around her finger.
like, right now for example. out of all the possible conversation topics, you didn’t want to hear about how jealous you had been when the woman at the cash register eyed saebyeok up and down before taking her coffee order. or, rather, how snappy you had been to the cashier when her gaze reluctantly slid to yours.
“you’re absolutely insufferable, i hope you know that,” you told saebyeok bitterly, avoiding her amused look by turning to face the large window on your left.
she scoffed in her seat across from you, but her smile continued to tug at the corners of her mouth. “people have already told me that. many times.”
you huffed out a breath and turned back to her. “that doesn’t mean you actually have to be insufferable.” there was a beat of silence before you grabbed your drink from the table, smoothing over the warm plastic with a thumb. “and of course i was jealous of her! she’s pretty and kept talking to you—and you entertained the conversation, which you never do. like, ever. so just shut your mouth about the whole thing, okay?”
saebyeok’s grin grew a little wider as she licked her pink lips, sitting back against her chair as she watched you.
part of you thought that her quietness meant compliance, and you counted yourself lucky that she actually listened (for once). but as you went to take a sip of the drink clasped in your hands, she countered with, “come over here and make me then.”
liquid suddenly caught in your throat, you coughed and sputtered into your elbow with widened eyes, trying to process if you had heard her correctly. when you finally cleared your airway, you glanced at her, cheeks flushed. the confidence she wore frightened you a bit, you couldn’t lie, but it also brought goosebumps to your heated skin. mainly because you knew she wasn’t kidding. she may not be very big on pda, but she got handsy when she was jealous, and now that the roles were—for the first time—reversed, you were betting that she liked the idea of you taking an initiative and shutting her up.
when you did nothing but stare at her with large eyes, though, mouth opening and closing like a gaping fish, she sighed through her nose and leaned forward. saebyeok reached over the small table, lifted herself from her chair, and grabbed your chin.
before you could muster up the courage to object, she kissed you. it was quick but strong, and after she pulled back, your noses inches apart, she said, “that’s how you get me to shut my mouth.”

Any neil& aaron recs? Not with a relationship with them necessarily as endgame but something like triptych or the one where they're on the hunt for andrew (cant remember the name rip, but i love that one)
There are a good amount of fics for Neil and Aaron — their relationship is fertile ground to explore angst or growth! The stories run the gamut from mutual disdain to familial warmth, from bad or awkward situations to quests (like hunting for Andrew together in ‘I'm leaving this town…’), from friendship to lovers and even plain ol’ sexual experimentation (see ‘triptych’).
Though you weren’t keen on Neil/Aaron as a couple, you might enjoy ‘Every Sinner Has A Future.’ It’s friends to lovers and spends significant time developing their relationship. Find it and the fics you referenced among those featured below. -A

hi! could i request a sae-byeok x fem reader fluff / hcs where it’s christmas and they do a bunch of activities together like putting up / decorating a christmas tree, baking cookies, buying matching pjs and drinking hot cocoa while having a christmas movie marathon with face masks, dancing to christmas music together, making out under the mistletoe, shopping for presents for cheol (and each other) etc ?? i’ve been missing christmas lately and christmas with sae-byeok just sounds so comforting rn! (sorry if i sent this twice, i’m not sure if it submitted the first time)
all i want for christmas is you
Tumblr media
tw/cw - none
a/n - this is so vv late ik im horrible but uh the christmas spirit changes people so :D
Tumblr media
- sae byeok wasn’t one to go all out for christmas. growing up poor her family could barely afford a tree, let alone presents and the sparkling lights strung along rooftops and trees. she didn’t own a single pair of fuzzy sweaters that families matched with during their christmas photos. she didn’t even have a photo, not a single one from all the years she lived. call her a grinch, but christmas felt like a reminder what she and her family couldn’t have every year.
- then you came along. and god, you adored the holiday, putting up everything the moment halloween passed. sae byeok was a little annoyed about it at first, at a loss for words walking out of your shared bedroom and finding the house decked out in boxes of christmas decorations. but she couldn't feel resentful of the holiday when you smiled like that. when cheol brightened at the sight while tugging on the hem of her shirt. she found herself mirroring his expression, despite wanting to ask the hundreds of questions swirling around in her mind.
- she released a sigh. her grumpiness would have to rest for a bit.
- you and sae byeok would dedicate a whole afternoon to decorating, insisting it had to be done all in one day. the girl would follow you around like a lost puppy, holding up foreign objects and asking where they went. she felt a little useless during that time, unsure whether she was handing over the correct ornament or setting up the tree properly. but you were patient with her, gently reminding the girl of what was the correct object and showing her the easiest and quickest way to flock the tree. and even though her placement of the decorations looked horrible compared to yours, you simply told her it looked beautiful.
- shopping for christmas presents was something new to sae byeok. she had gone before for her younger brother, but the gift was usually something cheap and used. and even though they weren’t as poor as before, she still felt guilty spending so much money on material things. so christmas shopping was a whole other level of guilt.
- but she eventually grew used to it. after all, this would be their first official christmas without the looming shadow of debt. she wanted to make it as memorable as possible for her younger brother.
- you accompanied her on one of her trips, your excitement making her enjoy the shopping more so than usual. every time you found something you believed the young boy would like you’d hold it up, examining the functions and appearing like a child wanting it for themselves. as quick as your attention found the object however it would disappear, grasping another that would repeat the process. it took many hours for sae byeok to settle on just a couple things.
- shopping for you was a whole different story. she thought long and hard about what to get you, wanting it to be special. you meant a lot to the girl after all, and even though you insisted on her not getting you a present she wanted to see the same bright smile on your face as you opened her gift. sae byeok would spend hours in the shopping center, asking for several different opinions. when she finally settled on a bracelet she was excited, beginning to think that christmas couldn’t come sooner.
- while you waited for the day to come, you made sure to have the pair participate in many classic holiday traditions.
- a gingerbread decorating contest was the first on the list. you bought two sets, pairing up with cheol to decorate one while sae byeok was left to fend for herself. the afternoon was filled with laughter, hundreds of photos and a messy amount of icing. somehow, when cheol was announced the winner for the contest, sae byeok was left with a face covered in white frosting and a chunk out of her gingerbread house (curtesy of you, of course).
- ice skating is another activity you felt was better appreciated during the holiday season. the siblings joined you on the ice, arms spread out as they struggled to stay upright. you quickly handed cheol a walker so he was less likely to fall before grinning mischievously at his older sister. sae byeok could only widen her eyes when you grabbed her hand and pulled her around on the ice, laughing when she screamed from both fright and adrenaline. it didn’t take long for you both to fall on a heap on the floor, breathing heavily with your hands still clasped tightly together. eventually you find yourself laughing loudly, the girl letting out a soft sigh before allowing her own snickers to leave her lips.
- mistletoe is practically everywhere in the house. more often than not you purposely meet the girl under the plant, grinning when she finally glanced up and realized why you kept staring at her so expectantly. after having dealt with your antics several times already, sae byeok released a small sigh, the smallest hint of a smile on her lips as she leaned forward and captured your lips with her own.
- when christmas came around no other music was played except the classics. you insisted upon this fact, your excuse being that it was only acceptable to listen to certain songs during a small window of the year. sae byeok used to mind at first, eventually growing tired of the repeated songs playing in the living room. but when you took her hands and pulled her to her feet, swaying your body with her own, her irritation disappeared. instead she focused on the way your body followed hers and how your head would dip back in laughter when she would accidentally step on your foot. her eyes traced the smile on your face and the sparkle in your eyes, voice humming softly to the tune.
- when christmas eve finally came around you spent the day preparing for ‘santa’. you showed cheol how to bake cookies and stir hot chocolate, putting on a christmas movie while they heated in the oven. you allowed the siblings to open one gift, matching pjs for you all to wear while watching the movie. your hands easily found their way curled against sae byeok’s chest, warmth radiating from your bodies as her fingers found purchase in your hair. when cheol began to grow sleepy you helped the small boy put out a plate of cookies and a glass of milk, tucking him into bed and kissing his forehead. as soon as the door clicked shut you and sae byeok shared a look of understanding, rushing to the closet filled with the presents santa would be leaving for the young boy in the morning. your words are hushed throughout the night, giggling from excitement and the rush of trying to stay quiet enough as to not disturb cheol’s sleep.
- you and sae byeok share a lingering kiss under the mistletoe, before falling asleep under the blankets and twinkling lights.
- you both awake in the morning to cheol tugging on your limbs and pulling you into the living room excitedly. you match his excitement when he takes notice of the half eaten cookies and small pile of presents, eager to begin the morning festivities. you hold up a camera and record the morning filled with torn wrapping paper and bright smiles, many hugs shared followed by words of gratitude. it was the perfect christmas morning.
- exactly what you had hoped for.
- sae-byeok’s hands are cold during the winter season, abnormally so. each time your fingers found her own you hold on tighter than necessary, hoping your warmth will eventually ease itself deep into her skin. your thumbs stroke her knuckles, finger pads rubbing along every inch they can find. you believe it works when you finally (and regretfully) pull away, palms a little sweaty but her skin back to its normal temperatures. and then you smile, catching sight of her reddening cheeks and equally red nose. you lean forward, placing your hands over her cheeks and begin kissing them. softly, gently, hundreds of times with the excuse to warm them enough so she’d never feel a bite of cold ever again.

Tumblr media
Laughter filled the room as you and Saebyeok side by side, simply just enjoying one another's company. She listened carefully to everything you said, eyes shining with fondness as you rambled about your crazy day. Your hands are intertwined, her thumb rubbing your knuckles soothingly. The soft hum of music played in the background.
It wasn’t often the two of you got to have some time to yourselves, so Saebyeok had set up a little home date for you. She had dinner prepared for when you arrived home, table illuminated with scented candles. You were overjoyed by her thoughtful gesture, a smile plastered on your face for the rest of the night. After eating you moved to the couch, relaxing with a glass of red wine in hand.
Now, the two of you sat in a comfortable, faint music lulling you into a peaceful state. Taking you by surprise, Saebyeok abruptly stood from the couch. You looked up to her, curiosity swirling in your eyes as she held out a hand to you. “Dance with me?” She asked, a pink tint coating her cheeks. Grinning toothily, you didn’t hesitate to take her hand, allowing her to pull you up from the soft cushions.
Her arms were quick to loop securely around your waist, your own coming up to wrap around her neck. You let your fingers tangle in her hair, combing them through her locks gently. Swaying to the music, Saebyeok you are impossibly closer, leaning down to press her forehead to your own. She affectionately nudged your nose with hers, looking rather cute as she scrunched it up.
You let yourself get lost in her eyes, noticing the way her own gaze flickered down to your pink lips occasionally. Rising up on the tips of your toes you connected your lips to her own, the kiss sweet and longing. She instantly kissed back, sighing blissfully at the sweet taste that invaded her senses.
Neither of you could resist the wide smiles on your faces as you filled apart, exchanging gazes of adoration. “I. Love. You.” Saebyeok paused between every word, pressing a series of short pecks to your lips. “I love you too,” you mumbled shyly, hiding your face in her chest. Smiling contentedly to herself, she pressed a gentle kiss to the top of your head, holding you tightly in her arms for the rest of the night.

I have this idea for a while, and thought if you are okay with it. It is similar to my previous story. Maybe the Gender Neutral reader gives Gi-hun a relaxing (SFW) massage after he had a very tiring and exhausting day?
Sorry for late response to this. Have been really busy😭❤️
Calming your nerves (gihun x gender!neutral reader)
"hey baby-"
You said as you heard your boyfriend enter the room after his 8 hour day of work. Without saying a word, he dropped his jacket and bag on the couch, heading towards the bathroom. It was unusual that your boyfriend didn't respond to your cute words of worship.
So you immediately suspected he had a hard, and painful day at work. You heard his coughs as the shower turned on, you not feeling like having to lecture him on bit water that day...
He always showered in steaming hot water, you can't keep that up for too long before your water bill is more expensive than rent itself.
You decided to do him a little favor after a hard day, and prepared a sandwich for him. The both of you didn't have much money, so sandwiches were pretty much all you ate-
Not that gihun minded, he's grateful for anything.
After a few minutes, ghr water shut off, and gihun left the bathroom, entering the living room where you sat with his sandwich.
"hey darling... I'm sorry-I had a horrible day at work. How are you?"
He asked, smiling as he sat down beside you.
"could be worse"
You giggled as you handed him his sandwich.
"got some after work food for you hunnie"
He smiled, he smiled wide. The charming crinkles around his eyes lighting up.
His hand rested on your cheek as he pressed a kiss against your forehead before taking the plate, and placing it on the table.
"thank you baby, I'll eat it in a minute alright?"
"is there anything I can do to cheer you up a bit?"
You asked, pouting your lips slightly as a joke, which he understood. He could never get angry at you. Not his precious angel. Never.
"no sweetheart. Just being here is enough for me"
Raising an eyebrow, you chuckle.
"I could give you a massage. Your tired back could really deserve it"
Now it's his turn to laugh. It does happen often that you call him old, often because of the age gap, but he never minded. He thought it was cute, adorable, and funny.
"sure, I'm not opposed to that"
He stated, slowly turning around, facing his back towards you. He was wearing no shirt which made it easier to find the many sore spots from working too much.
Gently starting at his shoulders, you make you way towards the center of his back, squeezing the skin in a relaxing motion.
"that alright?"
You asked, as you upped the pressure a bit more. Focusing all of your strength on the knots in his muscles, making him let out a long sigh of release.
All that stress from work and life in general, all gone at once.
"yes, that's alright"
He responded, his voice deep and slightly raspy as it always was. You always imagined gihun to be the perfect man to read stories, his voice was so deep, so soothing-
"what happened at work today?"
You asked, now moving between his shoulders, squeezing the skin as you tightly massaged it.
"not much, just my boss had a bad day I suppose... I came in and just starting going off"
"and here I am, thinking that being a chauffeur is a easy, well paid job... Guess I'm wrong"
You answered actually meaning what you said.
"it can be hard at times"
Gihun chuckled, gently shaking you off his back. You looked at him confused as he turned to see you. His facial expression depicted his loving side, the side you loved of him the most.
"thank you darling. I don't know what I'd do without you"
He said, as his lips met yours for a passionate kiss, filled with adoration, and his and your appreciation for each other.
His hand stated on your waist, as you snuggled close

kang saebyeok as your guitarist girlfriend | bullet point story [1] . . ♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- kang saebyeok x gn!reader
note: this is just the intro so she isn't your girlfriend yet
Tumblr media
- you actually met saebyeok at a show that she was playing at a bar
- the whole band was good but you couldn't keep your eyes off of her
- she noticed at one point and made eye contact with you, sending a cheeky smile your way
- you couldn't help but feel butterflies in your stomach - she was really pretty
- she had on a tux, but the blazer was off, leaving her with a messy bow tie and a white shirt - it was perfect
- after the show you stayed for a bit to have one more drink and hopefully see the guitarist (who you now knew as saebyeok since the whole band introduced themselves)
- as you took a sip of your drink, the seat beside you was suddenly filled
- looking over, you noticed saebyeok
- you almost spit out your drink because of how beautiful she was
- she noticed your stare and laughed. "hi"
- "hi," you replied back. "the show was really good"
- she grinned, taking a sip of her drink. "thank you. were you staying after the show just for me?" saebyeok teased
- you felt your cheeks heat up, not knowing what to say at first. "well, i did want to see you, but i didn't expect for you to sit next to me"
- saebyeok chuckled to herself before taking a napkin and a pen, then writing down her phone number
- "call me when you get home, okay?"
Tumblr media
- you practically ran home after saebyeok gave you her number
- after waiting a bit, you decided to text her
you: hey its y/n :)
- a few minutes later, she texted you back
saebyeok: hey there, didn't think you'd text me haha
y/n: how could i not? you're really interesting
saebyeok: ohhhh you're interested in me?? ;)
- you couldn't help but smile like an idiot - why was this girl so interesting to you?
saebyeok: we should hangout soon. let's go to a coffee shop
y/n: im down
Tumblr media
- the two of you actually followed through with the plans of going out, and today happened to be the day
- you changed your outfit three times before coming to a decision - it wasn't too casual, but not too fancy
- suddenly you heard a knock at your door. shit she was here a bit earlier than expected
- rushing over to the door, you opened it and saw saebyeok. she was in cargo pants and a loose top - she was beautiful
- "hey," you smiled sheepishly. "come in"
- she entered your home. "sorry im here a bit early. there's gonna be traffic soon so i thought that i should come here a bit earlier"
- "that's okay," you nodded. "i just need to get my bag and then we can go"
- as you went to get your bag you couldn't help but smile to yourself. you were so excited !!
- the two of you eventually left and drove over to the coffee shop. you learned some things about the girl
- she was the same age as you, her favorite color is blue, she's been playing guitar for a few years now
- you also told her some facts about yourself, it was nice
- the both of you talked and had some coffee, laughing at all the stupid and cheesy jokes that saebyeok told you
- she complimented you a few times too, and you couldn't help but blush because of that
- "you're really pretty" "you really light up the room" "your laugh is pretty too"
- the hangout didn't end after that because the two of you then went to the pet store
- you practically dragged saebyeok over to the section where the cats were, squealing over the little animals
- "this one is so cute i want to adopt them all"
- "that would be a lot of cat food"
- "but it's worth it!"
- saebyeok was more interested in the birds and frogs - she thought they were cool
- "these little guys would be great companions, don't you think?" "they are really cute. netflix frog!"
- "you're adorable"
- after that you would go to a video game store (this was for saebyeok as she played games on her days off)
- "what games do you like?" you asked her
- "i like survival games. i played one recently called the forest, you should play it with me one day"
- "that would be fun"
- saebyeok ended up buying a copy of minecraft for one of her consoles after you said you played that game often
- the day would soon end and saebyeok would bring you home. she made you stay a bit longer because the sunset was nice (others would argue she just wanted to spend more time with you)
- you would take a picture of the sunset before turning to saebyeok. "we should take a picture in front of the sunset, what do you say?"
- "of course"
- the two of you would huddle close and take a picture - saebyeok was stunning as she was drawn out by the sunlight
- saebyeok would walk you to your door and smile at you. "did you have fun?"
- "that was the most fun ive had in a while, thank you"
- "would you wanna do it again?" she asked, putting her hands in her pockets
- "if you have ideas on where to go, and if you plan to get me that cat, then yes" you teased
- she grinned and nodded. "alright, y/n. i don't know if i can get you that cat, though"
- you rolled your eyes playfully. "i'll see you again soon, saebyeok. text me when you get home"
- "will do"
- and with that, your first hangout with saebyeok was done
- you couldn't help but feel giddy and excited over spending the whole day with her
- you couldn't wait until your next adventure

Tumblr media
- the classic dating trope.
- you both were, of course, friends before the strange mutual agreement, having met due to several similar classes and a group project.
- at first conversations bled with unfamiliarity and caution, but with the amount of days spent huddled into a corner of the library, eyes burning and sleep tugging at the back of your minds, contact remained even after the assignment had been finished.
- sae byeok brought up the idea one evening whilst in her room, during the time midterms were coming up. the looming dates had almost all students scrambling to their books and cramming as much information as possible, all for the sake of a relaxing winter break.
- leaning against the frame of her bed as she scribbled into her sketchbook, sae byeok had nudged you gently against your foot, “are you doing anything for the holidays?”
- you repeated the action, before dropping your pencil against the blurring words of the page, “not really. i was honestly just thinking of staying on campus.”
- she hummed, still heavily concentrated on whatever drawing she was currently working on, “you should come with me.”
- “you mean spend christmas break at your house?”
- “yeah.”
- you leaned forward, grinning from ear to ear, “awh, your parents liked me that much?”
- you had gone with sae byeok to visit her family only once, a birthday dinner hosted at her home. it had surprised you at first, that she’d invite you to such an event when at the time you were still in the early stages of your friendship, but you had agreed nonetheless, meeting the lovely parents and younger brother.
- “they do. especially cheol.”
- “alright, i’ll go then.”
- you had returned your attention back towards your book, only to pause when the scratch of pencil against paper had stopped. a quick glance showed sae byeok had finally paused her actions, staring at you and appearing conflicted.
- “is there something else?”
- “well, you should know. my parents think we’re dating.”
- you snorted, before laughing even further when she stared at you confused. she had always looked so cute clueless, “seriously?”
- she nodded, causing you to lower your book and shift in your position.
- “okay, so, what did you tell them?”
- “i told them yes.”
- “could’ve at least asked me out first.”
- “they’ve been bothering me about it, i just wanted to get them to stop.”
- “so now i’m going to your house as your partner?”
- “just for the two weeks.”
- “and what’s in it for me? my affection isn’t free, sae-byeok.”
- “i’ll do your homework.”
- “deal.”
- “you agreed to that quickly.”
- “no homework is no homework. now when do we start?”
- it was about an hour car ride to sae byeok’s home. as she sat relaxed behind the wheel, you laid sprawled across the passenger seat, mindlessly switching through the stations for a song. eventually however, she let out an irritated sigh at the continuous clicking of the buttons.
- “just pick a song already.” she muttered, sending you a quick glare from the corners of her vision.
- “they all suck!” you defended, switching the station a couple more times before finally sinking into the cushions of the seat. you reached for the bag of chips bought previously, popping a chip into your mouth before speaking.
- “so, any rules we gotta establish?”
- she shrugged, reaching for your bag, “as long as it looks real i don’t care what we do.”
- a mischievous grin laid playfully on your lips, reaching over and pinching her cheek, “so i can call you my beautiful angel?”
- sae byeok groaned, releasing one hand from the wheel to swat your hand away, “anything but that.”
- you laughed at her expression, dropping your arm and waving off her worries,“fine fine, no nicknames.”
- a silence would settle, and you’d direct your attention towards the houses blurring by outside the window. a small tapping, most likely her fingers against the wheel, also filled your senses, and you’d believe that the subject had been dropped before she spoke in quite, mumbled words, “you can call me love.”
- you turned your head and rested your gaze on her face, unchanging but heavily set on the expanding road before her as if to escape the knowing smile you wore, “oh? what’s this? the cold hearted sae byeok has a preference?”
- “shut up.”
- “you shouldn’t be so mean to your partner.”
- “technically, you aren’t my partner yet,” somehow she had stolen a chip from your bag, causing you to yell out a small ‘hey!’ in response, “so i can be as mean as i want to.”
- when you arrived, you were greeted by two heart warming hugs.
- the first was from cheol, who came stumbling down the stairs and practically threw himself at you. brown eyes peered up at you excitedly, and you laughed while ruffling his hair and squeezing him just as tight.
- “hey buddy! missed me?”
- “yeah! does this mean you’re spending christmas with us?”
- “yup! you get me for two weeks.”
- “we have to play board games together! i’ve been practicing.”
- “oh so you think you can beat me? i’d like to see you try.”
- “cheol, aren’t you excited to see me?” sae byeok asked, to which he shrugged while continuing to pull on your arm.
- “i see you all the time.”
- “ha! hear that, love?” you grinned, the nickname easily falling through the cracks of your lips. you ignored the skip of your heart when she stared at you in a way you couldn’t explain, “your brother likes me better.”
- she narrowed her eyes at you, opening her mouth to speak only to pause when her mother came to the front door and embraced the girl in a tight hug, “sae! how was the ride over?”
- “it was fine mom.”
- “and you brought (name)! hello dear,” she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around your figure, a small laugh escaping your lips, “i’m so glad you could join us this year.”
- “me too ma’am.”
- she gasped, pulling away but still firmly gripping your upper arm, “oh no call me mom! you’re basically apart of the family now.”
- “ah really?” your cheeks heated up, sharing a quick look with sae byeok before smiling nervously, “thank you.”
- “dinner will start soon, so you two can drop of your bags in sae-byeok’s room.”
- said girl helped you bring the small suitcase filled with your belongings up the stairs, kicking open the door of her bedroom before dropping them on the floor. quickly, while grinning, you sprawled yourself over the mattress laid out onto the floor.
- “so much comfier than the car.” you followed her figure as she shuffled around the small room, eyeing the way she gazed fondly at the photos stuck to her walls, “you think i’m doing a good job so far?”
- she shrugged, kicking you lightly on the side as a indication for you to get up, “we’ll see how you do during dinner.”
- it was almost overwhelming the amount of questions you both were bombarded with while sitting around the small table filled with food.
- “how did you two meet?”
- “when did you guys get together?”
- “what kinda wedding do you want?”
- “have you kissed?”
- the last question was cheol’s, to which a pink flushed both you and the girl’s cheeks. neither of you discussed the physical part of the fake relationship, making it hard to answer without stuttering over your words.
- “uh of course!” you laughed, before quickly stuffing some rice into your mouth.
- “cheol, you shouldn’t ask such questions!”
- “how about you all stop asking questions?” all eyes turned towards sae byeok, who was currently glaring at the three guilty for their previous actions. you huffed out another small laugh, before proceeding to stuff your face once more.
- night came, and when cheol had been tucked away and both parents left a small kiss against the side of your head, sae byeok smoothed down the sheets of the mattress.
- both of you had already freshened up, showered and changed into comfier clothes for the night. the girl leaned back once she finished, staring at the small space surely not fit for two people.
- “i can sleep somewhere else.” she spoke, shifting so she could stand. hastily, and without thinking, you gripped her wrist, causing her to pause on her actions and stare at you.
- “it’s okay. we’ve slept in the same bed before, haven’t we?”
- she blinked, and you could feel the heat scorch your cheeks at her own flushed ones, “well, yeah-”
- “then let’s sleep. together.”
- another long beat of silence, before sae byeok nodded. quickly, to save any further embarrassment, you laid down into the comforter, burrowing yourself under the blanket and breathing out a shaky breath when you felt her do the same.
- you couldn’t quite place why it felt different. it was true that more than once while studying or simply hanging out you’d fallen asleep in her dorm, and sae byeok had done the same. and yet, you could barely relax, let along close your eyes, not when you were suddenly vaguely aware of the breaths leaving her lips, or the small shifts of movement as she tried to get comfortable. you couldn’t ignore the warmth of her body pressed against yours, tightening your chest and leaving you restless.
- “i cant sleep.” you eventually mumbled into the dark, feeling her shift as if to let you know that she too, was still awake.
- through what little darkness your eyes had adjusted to, you could see the outline of her face close to yours, though you could not see the expression on her face as she spoke, “sorry about dinner.”
- “it’s alright,” you pause, before averting your eyes towards the side and picking at the edge of the blanket, “although, cheol is right.”
- you could feel her eyes on you, tilting her head towards the side in confusion, “about?”
- “the uh,” you were grateful for the absence of light, for she wouldn’t be able to spot the flustered expression on your face, “the kiss thing.”
- “oh.”
- “i uh-i saw the mistletoe around your house. what are we gonna do about that?”
- “we can just avoid it.”
- you couldn’t help the disappointment that settled on your chest, nor the words that continued to spill through your mouth, “but what if-what if we can’t? then…”
- “hm?”
- you swallowed thickly, feeling the pounding of your heart carry on in your ears, “we should practice.”
- “practice?”
- “yeah! have you ever…kissed anyone before?”
- “no.”
- “really?”
- “i haven’t liked anyone before.”
- “then…maybe we should-uh just so your family doesn’t get suspicious-”
- “okay.”
- “i mean-wait, really?”
- another nod, and you found yourself drifting your gaze to the appendages of her mouth. you swallowed thickly once more, voice coming out shaky.
- “then…can i..?”
- sae byeok didn’t answer, simply shifting within the dark to get closer. your heart skipped a beat feeling the gentle placement of her hands on your cheeks, breaths coming out shaky from both your lips. there truly was no need for you both to practice, she was right in being able to avoid such an action throughout the two weeks. and yet…you didn’t stop her from brushing her nose against yours, or the gentle press of her lips against your own.
- a small sigh, content, was pressed against her skin, and your own fingers found themselves reaching up and tugging lightly on the strands near her neck. the pressure was gentle, unsure, and when she had pulled away, the appendages still ghosted along your lips. it wasn’t until you leant forward, craving the essence that dripped with the gentle movements of them slotting together did you realize the pounding of your chest and the burn scorching your face.
- when you pulled away once more, you were quick to bury yourself into the pillows supporting your head, both to save yourself from her spotting your flustered state, and the need to continue crossing the boundary that should’ve stayed unexplored.
- how would you go about the next two weeks without wanting to kiss her every night?
- “sleepy now?” she asked quietly, receiving just a small nod from you in response. you could hear the small breath she let out, and sae byeok gingerly pressed her lips against your hair, or at least if felt like so, before remaining quiet for the rest the night.
- mornings at sae byeok’s home were your favorite.
- perhaps it was waking up to the warmth of her body still tightly pressed against yours, even more so than when you had fallen into slumber. seeing the relaxed expression on her face while she slept and the messy strands and groggy tone of voice when she did eventually wake up.
- maybe it was the breakfast her mother made when you both stumbled down to eat, aroma filling your senses and the taste of home lingering on your tongue.
- eventually however, you’d find yourself being torn from the warmth and into the bitter cold outside, bundled in layers upon layers of sweaters and shivering limbs. all cheol’s idea, despite his mom arguing it was far too early in the morning for you all to be out and about. but you couldn’t sit back and watch his defeated look, offering to accompany him through the blankets of white.
- “ever made a snowman?”
- “sae tries to help me, but she sucks at it.”
- “unsurprising. let’s show her how it’s done.”
- you and cheol would get to work, rolling large lumps of snow into spheres and heaving out breaths when trying to stack them atop each other. your hands could feel the cold through the fabric of your gloves, cheeks stinging from the temperature of the air. and laughter would ring in your ears, especially when the young boy would come running with rocks for a mouth and two sticks for hands.
- “aren’t you freezing?”
- sae byeok would grin down at you, hugging her own jacket close to her body. it appeared she had just left the heat of her own home, eyeing the half finished snow man in her front yard and you and her brother decorating and smoothing the molded snow.
- “me? cold? never.”
- “actually, they’ve been shivering since we got here!” cheol’s blunt response had you laughing and throwing a handful of snow in his direction, causing him to shake of the excess before speaking, “you should hug them big sis!”
- the look exchanged had you trying to determine if the red on your cheeks was due to the cold or the flustered expression on her face. quickly, despite how the image had already engraved itself into your mind, you busied yourself with adjusting the scarf around the snowman’s neck.
- “ah, i’m sure a hot drink would be just fine-”
- the rest of your words got caught in your throat, encased by the warmth and sudden weight of a human body. you didn’t have to look to know it was her, only you would recognize the smell of clean laundry and feel the strands tickling your skin. even her breaths, shaky, were hot against your skin upon the back of your neck.
- “better?” she mumbled quietly, tracing those very words until they engraved themselves on your figure.
- “yeah,” you’d breathed out, swallowing thickly to let the lump in your throat pass, “much better.”
- the rest of your time outside would be spent finishing your snow men, then proceeding to the ground to allow your weight upon the blanket of white. laughter would ring in the air, heavy with euphoria as you spread your arms and legs in hopes to mold them into an angel. even sae byeok, with only a jacket around her figure, lay beside you, fingers brushing against yours.
- the rest of your visit went by smoothly.
- when gifts were opened a smile broke out upon everyone’s lips, and hundreds of pictures were taken in order to hold the memories.
- hot cocoa would be made, whipped cream swiped on your nose, and marshmallows stuck to the roof of your mouths.
- nights were spent at the kitchen table, a competition between you and cheol to see who would prevail in the board games he had accumulated since your last visit.
- and your favorite moments were in bed, sae byeok’s body against your own as your lips ran across her skin. each press was gentle, lazy even with the sleep always accompanying the back of your minds. yet you ached for just one last touch, one last kiss to leave upon the freckles kissing her skin.
- disappointed was an understatement to describe how you felt your last day there.
- you tried to make the most of it, helping sae byeok’s mother with breakfast and playing one last board game with cheol. you took in the framed photos running along the hall as well as the shoes by the front door. you engraved every little detail in hopes to remember the feelings and memories made within the walls of her home.
- “hey,” she had spoken from the doorway, leaning against the frame as you had sluggishly gotten to work folding your clothes. it surprised you, the way she dressed as if about to leave for somewhere, yet you listened intently nonetheless, “i have something i want to show you.”
- the drive there wasn’t long, and the silence was deafening. normally you were content with no words exchanged, however it felt different. as if something, a question, lingered in the air.
- eventually the car pulled to a slow stop by a small hill, tall enough that you could not see past it but not too overwhelming to have you breathless from the sheer thought of it. sae-byeok’s hands click off the low hum of the radio and proceeds to turn off the car, her figure smiling at you through the fog of your window.
- you followed her quietly up the side of the small landform, hands buried within the pockets of your sweater and the texture of your scarf scratching the side of your neck. it was dark, only the streetlights illuminating your path, and your breath could be seen in small clouds that lingered in the air. you almost laughed at the sight, purposely exhaling to make them bigger.
- your breaths came in short by the time you made it to the top, finding the girl in a similar state. red seemed to singe her cheeks more noticeably than yours, and although you found the sight cute and wanted to tease her, you remained quiet still, suddenly finding it hard to speak. why was that so? you had no problem before, finding every opportunity to mess with her. and yet, your heart seemed to beat too fast within your chest to allow the words to fall as easily as they did before.
- “it’s over there. the uh, the thing.” she mumbled, proceeding to take those last few steps towards a lone bench seated in front of a railing. you followed her, eyes sparkling when you were finally able to look over the heavy mounds of snow.
-hundreds of lights twinkled in the distance, some a warm yellow glow from the rooms inside a building and others from the decorations still left up despite the passing of the holiday. you imagined she came here often, if not for the fond look in her gaze but the engraving of her initials in the wood planks of the seat.
- your fingers moved to grip the railing, leaning over ever so slightly to peer more closely at the scene. you could hear her find her own spot beside your figure, close enough that her arms brushed gently against your own.
- silence settled once more, yet tension still rose like before on the drive over. you would’ve let it be similar to that time, however the words were already fumbling from your lips.
- “i…had a lot of fun. you’re family is great. really.”
- a small, wistful smile settled on her lips, “i told you, they really like you.”
- “yeah.”
- “things…they looked real, right?”
- you sputtered a light laugh, “had almost everyone fooled.”
- “(name)”
- “sae-byeok”
- you both laughed, before you motioned for her to proceed.
- brown eyes moved to settle back onto the landscape of the city, her body gently rocking back and forward on her feet, “i just uhm, you’re welcome to come back. we’re friends, you know?”
- friends. right. the past two weeks were just pretend after all. even the late nights spent growing drunk on each other’s touch was for the sake of pretend.
- “yeah, we are.”
- she nodded, continuing to stare quietly. and you took the time to watch. to take in the never ending red covering her cheeks and the freckles hiding behind the hues. the curly strands peeking out from the hat you forced on her head so her ears wouldn’t hurt. the gentle clouds escaping her lips, one’s you had engraved upon the expanse of your skin and could know based on touch alone.
- you had spent so much time learning about each other. and this girl, you had learned to love her too.
- “but what if i don’t want to be friends.” you had said to quick too take back.
- “you don’t?”
- “no, i dont. i don’t think i can be your friend sae-byeok.”
- your heart broke at the hurt that flashed across her features, and more so when she spoke quietly with another nod, “alright.”
- “i just mean,” you paused, exhaling a shaky breath and reaching a hand up to bundle up the fabric across your chest, “i can’t be your friend when i feel this way.”
- sae-byeok gave you a curious and confused glance, and you internally screamed in frustration at her lack of understanding.
- with whatever last bit of confidence you possessed you took her hand and placed it over your chest, allowing her warm fingers to feel the rapid pounding of your heart.
- “i know we said it’d only last the two weeks. but i want to alter our agreement.” slowly you pushed her hand away, and instead interlocked her fingers with your own, “let’s extend it. i want to fake date you for longer than that.”
- she blinked, hickory blending with your own as you tried to focus on standing still. each second that passed in silence however had you only more restless, and you could feel the pounding in your heart increase.
- “okay.”
- “really?”
- “i’m not doing that much homework though.”
- “no! no i just mean,” you brought your free hand up to your face as a poor attempt to hide your flustered state, “i just want to stay by your side.”
- sae-byeok, lovely and warm, embraced you, head burrowed in the fabrics on your body. your surprised only lasted a moment before you returned it, holding on as if she would leave were you to let go. fingers bunching fabric, hot breaths tickling skin and her presence so close you were practically one, leaving you struggling to find purchase on the ground.
- “okay,” she agreed once more, her lips pressing gently against your face as she spoke in soft, quiet whispers, “as long as you stay by my side too.”

The cold wraps around Sang-Woo and Gi-Hun as they enter the air-conditioned store. Sang-Woo takes a shopping basket and heads to an aisle without looking back to see if Gi-Hun is following him.
This is probably the worst fight they've had since the start of their relationship. And to think, just a few days ago, things were going great since that kiss. He couldn’t take his eyes off Gi-Hun, and now he can't even look at him.
They've made out plenty since then. When he had Gi-Hun over to tutor him, at the school library, where they were almost caught by a teacher, even at the riverbank, where they were caught by Ji-Yeong. They've gotten better at it too, with Sang-Woo copying what he saw at the movies.
But then Thursday came along. Fucking Thursday.
Gi-Hun's footsteps get louder beside him, almost drowning out the muffled sounds of a drizzle starting. Gi-Hun catches up to Sang-Woo's pace. It takes everything in Sang-Woo to not look at him.
Gi-Hun’s guard is up. It’s like he’s built a wall between them that Sang-Woo can’t break or climb over, but he looks up and sees Gi-Hun peeking over, looking at him with an expression that tells him that if Sang-Woo brings his pride down, Gi-Hun will bring down the wall.
Sang-Woo halts next to the colored papers. “What colors do you want?”
“You choose,” Gi-Hun mutters.
Sang-Woo rolls his eyes and turns to face Gi-Hun. His brain stops working, however, when he makes eye contact with Gi-Hun's piercing eyes. Gosh, he thinks. What happened to the puppy dog eyes Gi-Hun's always had?
Sang-Woo takes a breath. “Look, I know you're mad, I am too, but if we're gonna have to work on this stupid project together, you're gonna have to cooperate, okay?” It came out more aggressive than he meant.
Gi-Hun looks shocked, but he just closes his eyes. “Blue, yellow and green,” he says through his teeth.
Sang-Woo huffs out a frustrated thank you, grabs the papers, and puts them in the basket.
YESTERDAY, THURSDAY
Gi-Hun is leaning against the bookshelf as Sang-Woo’s hands ruffle through his hair. Their lips are pressed together, noses brushing while taking in each other’s scent. Gi-Hun pulls away for a second to catch his breath but is immediately sucked back to Sang-Woo’s mouth, causing their teeth to clash for a moment. Gi-Hun emits a small yelp of pain, or maybe it was a moan, Sang-Woo can’t tell.
Sunlight shines through a window and puts a spotlight on them, adding to the heat of their kiss and brisk heartbeats. Their uniforms get warmer from the friction of their chests. Sang-Woo is a little scared that they’ll get caught, but probably not nearly enough as he should be.
The books behind Gi-Hun shake. “Wait,” Gi-Hun says, pulling away. “We’re being too loud, this is a library.”
They are positioned at the very back of the room, bookshelves covering them. Barely any people are in the room, just them, the librarian, and a few students studying.
Sang-Woo wipes a sweat running down Gi-Hun’s forehead. “Then kiss me slower.”
Gi-Hun’s cheeks flush as Sang-Woo’s thumbs caress them. Sang-Woo leans back in. Gi-Hun’s eyes close a moment before Sang-Woo shuts his. They meet again. Gi-Hun’s mouth opens as Sang-Woo’s tongue finds its way in. They move in a rhythm, Sang-Woo’s hand travels down to Gi-Hun’s waist as Gi-Hun holds Sang-Woo’s neck.
A thud near them.
They stop abruptly, quickly getting off each other, a thread of saliva snapping at their divergence. Sang-Woo grabs a book and pretends to read. Gi-Hun wipes his mouth with his arm.
The teacher emerges from the bookshelves, halts, and looks at them for a few seconds. Sang-Woo keeps his eyes on the book, which he’s too nervous to even see. He’s looking at it, but he’s not seeing it.
“You two,” the teacher says. Sang-Woo and Gi-Hun stiffen up as they turn to look at him. “It’s almost one o’clock. Shouldn’t you be going to your classrooms?”
“Uh, of course, sir,” Sang-Woo says. “We were just about to leave.”
The teacher nods. “Your book’s upside down by the way.” He pushes up his glasses and walks away.
They looked at each other and burst out into laughter as Sang-Woo closes his book shut. He looks down at the cover— Three Generations upside down.

Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo sit next to each other in class. The teacher stands behind his desk, holding a stack of papers. “Alright, everybody listen!” he says as he taps the stack of papers on the desk, evening them out. “You’re gonna do your project in pairs. I’ll call out the names of your partners!”
The teacher looks at the papers. “Jiyeong and Jun-Ho. Ali and Sae-Byeok…” He continues, then, finally, “Gi-Hun and Sang-Woo.”
Sang-Woo smiles. He would probably do the entire project by himself if Gi-Hun asked, but Sang-Woo knew he wouldn’t. Sure, Gi-Hun can be irresponsible at times, but that doesn’t mean he’ll let anyone he loves suffer. It’s one of the things that gives Sang-Woo a fuzzy feeling every time he looks at Gi-Hun.
He looks at Gi-Hun, who is giving him the same loving smile he has on his face.
“Okay, you all got that?” the teacher says. “Now, for your project, you’re going to make a pop-up card made of colored paper cut in the shapes of different quadrilaterals. It’s up to you what object you’d like to create. Does everybody understand?”
The whole class says, “Yes,” in unison.
The bell rings.
“And remember, the school dance is on Saturday.” The teacher exits the room. It’s their last period, and the students start to stand up and put on their backpacks. Sang-Woo does too. He sees Gi-Hun stand up and Sang-Woo grabs his bag before him.
“I’ll do it for you,” he says smiling, wearing the backpack at the front. Gi-Hun smiles back at him for that. Sang-Woo feels his cheeks heat up and that fuzzy feeling grows in his chest again.
“So, about the school dance…” Gi-Hun says. Sang-Woo smiles, he's already asked Gi-Hun to go with him earlier this morning. Of course,  Gi-Hun said yes.
“Pick you up at seven?”
Gi-Hun nods.
They walk slowly through the hallway side by side. Sang-Woo thinks Gi-Hun’s hands must be metal and his must be a magnet because the pull when they’re only inches apart is excruciatingly strong. But Gi-Hun takes Sang-Woo’s hand, and his palm doesn’t feel like metal. It’s soft and warm and feels like home, and he can imagine the rest of his life like this: Gi-Hun’s warmth sprawling through his body while they grow old and live together.
The heat of Gi-Hun’s touch travels through Sang-Woo’s entire body, and embarrassingly, that includes the place in his crotch. Sang-Woo feels his boxers getting tighter.
Shit. They’re still in school. Sang-Woo can’t be caught in public with a hard-on while holding hands with his boyfriend!
Sang-Woo’s palms grow sweaty from the fire in his thumping chest. He jerks his hand off of Gi-Hun’s. His boyfriend flits his head to him with shock and concern in his eyes.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” Gi-Hun presses his hand onto Sang-Woo’s neck. “Your pulse is heavy… and you’re sweating so much again! Did your fever come back?”
Fuck. With Gi-Hun this close, Sang-Woo will overheat. And the worry in his voice too. Oh no, Sang-Woo can’t take it anymore.
He puts his hands on Gi-Hun’s cheek so suddenly that he’s practically slapping him. Sang-Woo pulls Gi-Hun in and catches his lips with Sang-Woo’s own, closing his eyes. All of this before he could even think.
Sang-Woo parts his lips, but instead of Gi-Hun doing the same and taking in Sang-Woo like how he did earlier in the library, Sang-Woo feels Gi-Hun’s hands pressing on his chest and pushing him away.
Sang-Woo opens his eyes and sees Gi-Hun looking at him with those same eyes, and they’re still filled with shock. But this time, they’re not filled with concern.
They’re filled with fear.
“W…what are you doing?” Gi-Hun whimpers. And it’s then that Sang-Woo realizes how many people are staring at them.
What did he do? Sang-Woo feels his insides sink and shame weighing down on him. It’s suffocating.
“It’s… I—  Well—” he struggles to get a word out.
“Let’s talk somewhere else.” Gi-Hun blinks. His eyes are starting to water. “Just… follow me.” Gi-Hun starts walking off. Sang-Woo stares at Gi-Hun’s shrinking silhouette for a few seconds, not fully registering what’s going on.
He hears Deok-su’s voice from behind. “Well, well, well, are the two fairies having a lovers’ quarre—”
“Shut the fuck up, Deok-su.” Sang-Woo follows Gi-Hun, flipping off the teasing boy from behind.
Gi-Hun leads Sang-Woo to a nearby vacant boys’ bathroom. It smells like garbage, one of the lights is broken, and the mirror is smudged with Lord knows what, but it’s the nearest place where they can get privacy. The two are about three feet apart. They stand quietly for a moment.
Gi-Hun turns around to face Sang-Woo. “W…” he starts, but doesn’t finish. He looks at the stalls, probably to make sure that no one is there to eavesdrop. “Why did you do that?” Gi-Hun’s voice wavers a little.
“I thought you wouldn't have a problem with it. We’ve kissed a bunch of times before and you were fine—”
“That’s because you asked first so I was prepared!” He fidgets with his hands. “And it wasn’t in front of that many people! And, and…”  Gi-Hun bows his head, but Sang-Woo can tell he’s about to cry.  “And you weren’t so forceful like that those other times. You just… suddenly grabbed me and smushed your lips on mine.” He pauses between each sentence. “It hurt. And it was scary.” He was shouting at first but now he’s whimpering each word. Sang-Woo could hear him whisper, “Plus, fevers are contagious.”
But, that isn’t fair! Sang-Woo thinks. He’s heard many times that it’s normal for teenage boys to have raging hormones. Every time he’s seen a guy being disruptive or doing something he isn’t wanted to do, Sang-Woo has heard people say, “Boys will be boys.” He’s only seen movies where even if the man kisses the girl without asking, the girl doesn’t mind. So, why is it his fault? Why is Gi-Hun blaming him? He didn’t do anything wrong.
Right?
He thinks of the way Gi-Hun looked at him with fear, and the shame and guilt press down deeper on him but somehow, his ego upholds his pride and pushes the remorse away.
“So, what? You’re embarrassed to be seen kissing me? Does it embarrass you to love me?” Sang-Woo says.
Gi-Hun looks at him with disbelief and a tinge of sadness. His brows furrow in anger. “Don’t try to turn this around on me, Cho. When did I fucking say that? All this time, you’ve respected my space and decisions, so why are you doing this now? Is it so hard to keep on asking me before you do it for fuck’s sake?”
Sang-Woo huffs. Cho. His last name. Gi-Hun hasn’t called him that since elementary.
Gi-Hun’s eyes are red and filled with tears. It makes Sang-Woo’s heart ache. Gi-Hun storms out of the room and Sang-Woo is left in this shitty, stinky bathroom. Sang-Woo looks at himself in the mirror. Was he really in the right?
Or did he just fuck this whole thing up?
TODAY, FRIDAY
The fresh smell of an air-conditioned store lingers. Sang-Woo’s hands grow cold around the plastic handle of the shopping basket. He wonders if Gi-Hun’s hand is cold as well. It must be. Sang-Woo wants to hold it and keep it in his warm pocket. And maybe it will still feel like home. Even after that fight, the magnetic force is still there.
Sang-Woo looks out the window and sees the cloudy skies, the drizzle slowly turning to rain. The stars are no longer visible unlike that night during the field trip when they first kissed.
And yet again, he’s thinking about kissing Gi-Hun. Gosh, how frequently has he been thinking that?
Sang-Woo’s mother found out about the project and had him call Gi-Hun to arrange a date and time to work on the project together. Sang-Woo thought it was gonna be a hard call but it was Gi-Hun’s mother who answered and she told Sang-Woo that she’ll have Gi-Hun come to their house this evening.
So now here they are.
The store is pretty quiet, except for the nearby beeping of the cash register and the quiet voice of the cashier handling the customers’ purchases. And somehow, the silence is making things worse for Sang-Woo. It lets his thoughts sit and rest and allows the guilt to slide back in, where it belongs. The pride has diminished over time, so there is nothing to push it back.
Ever since the argument happened, he’s had nothing else to think about other than the situation. He went over every word that was said and each feeling he experienced.
Only now has he thought about what Gi-Hun might have felt.
The guilt sprawls over him wider.
“I’m s…” Sang-Woo heard himself mutter before he knew it. Gi-Hun looks at him.  The hostility and anger in his eyes seem to have lessened a little. “I’m s…” he tries again.
“What?” Gi-Hun mutters. The bricks of the wall are slowly cracking.
“I’m…searching for the card stock. Have you seen it?” For fuck’s sake! He can’t even apologize. How on earth is he gonna make this right?
Gi-Hun sighs. And just like that, the wall is back up. The chain is on his door again and the defenses are up once more.
Gi-Hun’s eyes slowly get wet. “Are you really that impenetrable to guilt?” he snaps. The beeping of the cash register stops and the light chatter ceases. The sounds of the impending rain outside grow louder. They should’ve brought an umbrella.
Sang-Woo can tell people are staring at them about to have an argument. Just like yesterday.
“Gi-Hun—”
“I can’t do this.” Gi-Hun walks out of the store. Sang-Woo drops his basket, spilling all the items they were about to purchase.
“Wait, no, Gi-Hun, it’s pouring, you’ll catch a cold!” He chases after him, opening the glass door and trading the cold air of the store for the frigid rain outside. He gets drenched instantly, and the raindrops hit them briskly. He catches up to Gi-Hun and grabs his hand. Gi-Hun halts, and Sang-Woo feels his wrist tighten.
“You know I’m faster than you,” Sang-Woo tries to joke, but Gi-Hun turns to face him and his expression says that Gi-Hun’s in no mood for jokes. Gi-Hun yanks his hand off Sang-Woo’s.
His eyes transform from angry to heartbroken, restoring his puppy dog eyes. Seeing him like this, drenched with a sorrowful look on his face, the guilt takes over Sang-Woo’s body. And he can no longer fight it. He can no longer try to evade the truth.
He fucked up. Really bad.
“You know,” Gi-Hun starts, “one of the biggest reasons why I fell so hard for you is because you were caring and gentle and responsible and you cared for my feelings .” Gi-Hun sobs. “I don’t why you’re like this now but I don’t know if I wanna stay with someone who doesn’t respect my boundaries.” His eyes are so red. The tears from his eyes blend with the rain.
“And you can’t even say sorry,” his voice crumbles. “If you still want to take me to the dance, fine. But, I think we need a break,” he finishes off. And with that, he walks away.
Sang-Woo wants to chase after him, to say he’s sorry and that he’s realized he’s wrong and that he swears it’ll never happen again. That he’ll never hurt him again. That he can’t stand to see him hurting so much because of him.
But he doesn’t. He just stands still in the pouring rain, not sure if it’s the gelid rain or time that froze him.
Realizing that Gi-Hun just left him. Under the same sky they fell in love on.
