Gravity Falls One shot Challenge!

Hey there everyone! Thehetaliaotaku back at it again with an idea I had. I saw these amazing 200 dialogue prompts by @drink-it-write-it that I am using for this challenge.

What's the challenge? I've had a bunch of my close friends, family, and partners choose a number between 1 - 200. Then I will write a ficlet or One shot based on the prompt I got with the number they chose.

Behind the Muse

Last Song(s): The Marriage of Coyote Woman, All Them Witches -- Honestly this just randomly came up on Spotify, but I am so into this slow bluesy jam rock vibe. Motion Sickness, Phoebe Bridgers -- The chorus of this song just makes me want to sing. I can’t get it out of my head. Archie, Marry Me - Alvvays -- This song is another one that is just in my near-constant rotation. I love the swelling height of the chorus. It just feels so big, and sweeping, and epic. Currently Reading: Persephone Station, by Staina Leicht -- I’m not a super voracious reader anymore, because part of my job dictates my reading time be dedicated to other things... but I’m slowly making my way through this sci fi book and I’m really liking it :) Currently Watching: I’m watching two things at the moment... The Nevers -- It’s Whedon-y, but not in an overpowering way. It’s hard to go wrong with Steampunk X-Men... plus they nail intersectional struggles in a way that X-Men often struggles to. The Vikings -- I know I’m late to this party, but someone told me that my character Ylva had “big Floki energy” and I don’t know who Floki is so they’re making me watch The Vikings. Honestly it’s pretty cool. Currently Craving: Boba tea. Mad Mex burritos. I’ll probably get boba tea on the way home from work today, but Mad Mex burritos are just a liiiiittle bit out of reach. That said, there’s a little food truck called Super Burrito that just makes the absolute best fuckin’ breakfast burritos with chorizo on the planet. That’ll be an okay substitute in the meantime. the pants for my sal cosplay got ruined... it has bleach staina on the waistband and on the legs. I think my uncle sprayed bleach on them with his stupid bleach and water mix thing while cleaning or something.he had the audacity to lie about it, and said he didn't use his spray thing but I smelt bleach when I came home from the store yesterday,, he always lies about stuff. even if it was an accident, why the fuck did he spray that stuff when he could clearly see my laundry wasnt put up yet

an amalgamation between human and octopus who's affiliated with a not-so-malicious gang known as "secret". known in secret as malachite, he acts like an older brother towards onyx, another member. outside of secret he's known as a practitioner of chaos magick and is also known for accidentally fusing himself with his pet octopus when trying to cast a spell as a child. he's very quiet yet when he talks his voice could be fairly booming since it's deep and sort of gravely. he is also aloof and is not afraid to show people that despite not being entirely human he can still stand superior.

trivia: as a child he was often called "octo-man" and (more frequently) "cthulhu" and has still been called "cthulhu" even by onyx to this day. he does not like it.

hi! i want to tattoo "lucky in my path" in runes, but i have no idea of how to make it; do you got any resources?

The first step is to answer a few questions. Maybe you’ve already done this, maybe you didn’t realize that you had to. But without doing this, and without me knowing where you’ve landed, all I can really do is point you to my runic resources page and hope for the best.

I’m emphasizing Elder Futhark in this post because that’s what most people seem to be interested in but definitely send another ask to correct me if that’s an incorrect assumption, especially since Younger Futhark is unambiguously cooler in almost every imaginable way I am interested in increasing the general rune-oriented community’s familiarity with Younger Futhark.

What language do you want it in?

If you just want it in English that’s cool but it will make the next step harder. There is no traditional way to write runes in English so whatever you do will be correct, which relieves the pressure somewhat but also nullifies your question, and it seems like you’re looking for something other than arbitrariness.

Traditionally different sets of runes are going to map to different linguistic groups/time periods with different precedents for using them which are bound to those languages. For example there is no “correct” way to write Old Norse using Elder Futhark. While classification of runes and languages are both less cut-and-dry than such a list suggests, some futhark-language pairs that can be associated with each other could reasonably include (but not be limited to, and every single one of these can be further broken down):

24-rune “classical” elder futhark : “Proto-Northwest Germanic”; “Proto-Norse”; “Urnordisch”

“transitional” (roughly 21-rune) elder futhark : “transitional” mid-syncope North Germanic (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stentoften_Runestone)

Anglo-Frisian runes : West Germanic, early Old English

Anglo-Saxon futhorc : Old English (in various dialects)

16-rune younger futhark : early Viking-age Old Norse

younger futhark with a few dotted runes: also Viking-age Old Norse

“medieval runes” : Classical Old Icelandic, Old Danish, Old Swedish, Old Norwegian (each with their own regional variants)

So like for example if you wanted it to look like it came from the Viking age you would have to start by translating it to something like “hæpin(n) ã mínum vegi” (which honestly you kinda need some training to do, this is earlier than the stuff you would find in an Old Norse dictionary). Then you could use a resource like this page I made years ago and arrive at something like ᚼᛅᛒᛁᚾ᛬ᚬ᛬ᛘᛁᚾᚢᛘ᛬ᚢᛁᚴᛁ habin.ą.minum.uiki.

transliteration or transcription?

If you’re writing in Modern English you have to choose whether you’re going to use Modern English spelling customs by mapping each letter to a rune, or if you’re going to try to transcribe the sounds (”sounding it out”; [lʌki ɪn mai pʰeəθ] in my accent). Pre-literate rune-writers seem to have leaned closer to transcribing sounds although some arguments have been made for specific instances of traditional spelling here and there (e.g. writing ai for what we believe was actually “ē” in the language).

If you’re transliterating (letter-to-letter) you probably don’t need any advice, you can just kinda go ᛚᚢᚲᛁ᛬ᛁᚾ᛬ᛗᛁ᛬ᛈᚨᚦ luki.in.mi.paþ and be done with it, there’s nothing wrong with that even though people are going to tell you there is. If you’re transcribing it you have to make up your mind about how to write the “u” in “lucky” and your accent will effect how you write “path” (I say it basically with the vowels in “air”; if you’re British you’re probably just saying [a] anyway so you don’t have to think too hard about it). The sound in “my” is written ᚨᛁ ai in Elder Futhark (e.g. staina ‘stone’ (accusative)).

If you want help with sounds of the Elder Futhark you can check out this page here although to be honest I made that page years ago and there are probably things I would do differently if I did it now. It should get you pretty close to understanding though.

Livskraft.

O där va dem. En familj som skulle grilla. De såg ut som en hurtfamilj i lite sådär träningskläder. Tikmēr Alien III ir it kā turpinājums daudz labāk dramatizētai Alien: River of Pain grāmatai. Ja filmās iepatikās/nošarmēja pašas pirmās ar Elenas Riplijas tēlu, tad rekomendēju noklausīties Alien: Out of the Shadows, un nākošās divas, ja patīk arī dabrs pie audio ieraksta. Bet ne šo, kur var just, ka ir dramatizēts filmas scenārijs, un, lai cik ļoti visi ierunātāji necenstos, rezultāts ir tāds nekāds. Domājams varētu just, ka kaut kas tomēr pietrūkst, pat ja nezinātu, ka oriģināls ir bijis scenārijs.
