Hey y'all!

I just want to thank everyone for responding to my GG fandom temperature check last week. It was wonderful seeing each and every one of you pop up again after what feels like too long.

With that being said, I'm SO excited to see all of the interest in a 2022 Good Girls Appreciation Week. I put together a short survey just to see what you're all thinking with timing/theme/content.

🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.

Rio and Stan

Together? Oooo, I actually don't think they'd ever become real friends? That's not a hugely popular opinion in this fandom, but I really do think that they've just got such different values, and that wouldn't change even if Stan became fully embroiled in crime as he started to in canon.

I think they'd respect each other, but Stan in particularly would have trouble negotiating Rio's status in the crime world and the things that's he done and what he wants and hopes for his own life and the lives of his children. The lines would blur over time though, and I think they'd find a rhythm with one another from Harry turning Jane and Marcus's friendship into a trio and basketball and the love they both have for their families, and I especially like the idea that maybe one day, shit goes just wrong enough with the business that they end up getting a drink together, and it doesn't clear the air exactly, but for once that air isn't something they choke on, and everything after that gets a little easier, even if it never gets easy.

Shiv

Ooo, okay okay okay, I love this idea that Shiv, deep down, has this really romantic idea of being an artist. That she studied theory in college and spent her early twenties obsessed with the punk work of Linder Sterling (like you can't tell me Shiv wouldn't see herself in something like this) and Cindy Sherman and Barbara Kruger, and she fantasised about being them. Living somewhere small and shitty in London or New York and having something to say and being heard, but the thing is, it won't ever happen for her - she won't ever allow herself the vulnerability of creative expression (especially when she sees Kendall's soft, sad underbelly every time he tries to rap, and it really does gross her the fuck out), and she doesn't have the patience to develop or the confidence in her own voice to really know what to say, and the thought of it curdles up inside her and plants like a bitter seed.

And she resents it, when she sees people creating, hides behind a veneer of snobbery and political then capitalist self-importance, but there's still this part of her that's so jealous of artists. Worse, jealous of Kendall who somehow hasn't crushed this thing inside him, and she hates that she's pleased when his art app investment falls through or when Roman and her can roast his rapping, hates that she knows he'll keep trying anyway because he wants to be adjacent to art when it's all she can do to pretend she's above it, but maybe when she takes off her wedding ring after Tom's betrayal, it's art that finds her again. It's Linder's work that sits in her head, behind her eyes, and her anger is fuelled by these women who could maybe articulate things Shiv never knew how to, and she thinks she might not have the hands to create art, but she has the head to create something out of the mess her life's become, and this time, she will.
