I'm not a good writer but I've always had this idea for a fic where in the beginning of quarantine, Andrew and Steven have already been living together but didn't want to share that to the public yet. So they try to film worth it videos to make it look like they're not together. But slowly people start to notice certain things in their background or comments they've made that would make you think they live together. Then finally, after months of hiding they get tired of needing to film in different rooms, Steven walks over to where Andrew is sitting for his taste tests and wraps his arms around his shoulders and resting his head on top of Andrew's.
"What do you want?" Andrew is beat red blushing
"Tired. Of. Hiding. Want. Kisses." Steven mumbles on the top to Andrew's head.
"Fine." Andrew reluctantly agrees with a small smile on his face.
Steven excitedly removes himself from the hug to kneel in front of Andrew expecting a kiss but Andrew offers him a bite of food instead.

Boner Appetit
Adam and Andrew have shown up on Watcher lately so idk this is at one of those points. "No two taste the same," Andrew said emphatically. "I mean, it makes sense, right, when you consider different body chemistries--" "Oh so this is where the party's at," Steven chuckled, walking over to where Adam and Andrew were chatting. He leaned against the wall, his hand pressed to the spot about a foot or two above Andrew's head. Andrew felt heat flood his face as he tried to mentally will Steven not to ask about the topic of conversation. (Absurd and futile sure, but panic wasn't exactly fueled by logic).
"So, what are we talking about? Somethin'...spicy?" Steven chuckled, noting Andrew's embarrassment with far too much acuity for Andrew's liking.
People often underestimated Steven Lim. Maybe it was because he was just so damn nice. Maybe it was because he was Christian, trying not to curse most of the time and having famously waited until marriage before having sex.
"Saint Steven" was far too mischievous and frankly open-minded to hold that title though.
Oh...that's right.
Steven was married now.
That meant Steven Lim...had fucked.
It wasn't that Andrew was unaware but the full realization hit him all at once, punching the breath from his lungs and making him feel hot all over.
He'd be lying if he said he hadn't noticed that Steven had been walking with a bit more swagger than back in his Buzzfeed days, but he figured that came with time, leadership, and accomplishments.
Lost in thought, he barely registered that not only had Adam answered Steven, but now Steven was talking to him.
"Sorry, I like totally zoned out there for a second. What'd you say?" Andrew told him.
"I said, 'You can't just say "eating" because you're Food Boys'," Steven repeated.
"We were talking about eating," Andrew defended, but Steven was smarter than that, and raised his eyebrows at Andrew expectantly.
"Eating...people, sort of," Andrew finally mumbled.
"Whoa, like cannibalism?" Steven looked flabbergasted.
"I, did say 'sort of'," Andrew pointed out.
Steven looked confused.
"Come on man, you're really gonna make me say it?"
"Well it can't be worse than cannibalism right?" Steven shrugged.
Andrew sighed. Between Steven's determination and stubbornness and Adam's comfort with uncomfortable silences, Andrew knew he was shit out of luck.
"The way that people...taste, in the um, bedroom, is very different from person to person," he finally said.
Andrew watched Steven's brow furrow in thought, and then his eyes widen in realization.

Prompt: Fun fact- Andrew can sing and often writes songs in his downtime. Fun fact- he is also hopelessly in love with one Steven Lim. After Steven moves to LA, Andrew is broken. His songs get sadder and the small collection of people who knows this are worried for him. Cue some help from Ryan Bergara, who also writes songs and sings- this time for Shane Madej, who he is moping after. The two help each other write songs, make a name for themselves, and find happiness in those they love.
I decided to interpret your prompt in a slightly weird different way. I apologise for my weird brain.
Also sorry about the tardiness, coming up with original lyrics is a lot tougher than I anticipated. Plus the story kept literally growing on me even though I wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Title: To the Tune of Your Heart
“What. The. Hell.” Andrew’s head immediately snaps around to look at Adam, those words don’t sound right coming out of his soft-spoken friend’s mouth. He’s flipping through Andrew’s notebook with a look of disbelief on his face. “Okay, some of these are downright depressing. Are you okay?”
“Not all the songs are from my perspective,” Andrew replies nonchalantly. He continues setting up the lights they needed for filming. Adam looks up, annoyed. Andrew sighs. “I’m okay. There I answered your question, now help me with this.” Adam obliges.
so i’m a liar, sue mei did what i had toyou never wanted to hurt mebut i did it for you
now you’re happy, without meam i the fool?i should be angrybut i’m happy for you
Ryan stares at his reflection in his phone’s blank screen, waiting… Yeah, seems like he forgot, no surprise there. Groaning, Ryan drops his phone on the pillow next to his head, and rolls over to where his laptop is. He lifts the lid and sighs. It’s looking like another solo brainstorm session.
Ryan clicks around aimlessly and accidentally opens a draft of a song he’s writing: ‘For You’. It’s incomplete, much like his life. Ryan cringes at his own thought. It’s been years but he’s still not over it.
Shane has a girlfriend now, and he’s happy. In fact, he’s so happy that he’s probably on a date with her right now, completely forgetting that he agreed to help Ryan out with coming up with ideas for their next videos. Ryan swears he’s not bitter, he swears he’s happy for Shane.
it’s not the samein two different citieswho can i blame?i just stood there and watched you leave
spinning round and roundwaiting for your calli’m still holding onnothing else matters more
if this is all there isthen i’m sorry to saythis is where it all endsthere’s no other way
This isn’t working. Andrew smacks his face onto the dining table, this is the fifth batch already. Adam has since been long gone, went home to get ready for work. Andrew lifts his head slightly, only to bring it back down onto the table. Hard. He repeats it several times, hoping the pain would give him some clarity of mind.
As fledgling YouTubers, the cards were already stacked against them. But now with his own ineptitude, Andrew’s certain he’s gonna delete the entire subscriber-base that he and Adam had worked so hard to build. Andrew groans, it’s loud and dragged out, and interrupted by a knock on his front door.
It’s probably Adam, having forgotten his jacket or keys or something. Andrew doesn’t care. He shuffles over to open the door, ready to make a snippy remark about Adam’s poor memory. But the words he planned dies in his throat as he realizes who’s standing there. It’s not Adam.
“Ryan?”
The man waves tiredly, a wry smile on his lips. Then his eyes suddenly grow comically large as he points at Andrew’s forehead.
“You’re bleeding!”
Andrew lifts his hand to touch his forehead and sure enough, it pulls back with a thick, bright red liquid covering his fingers.
“So I am,” Andrew states matter-of-factly, completely unperturbed.
i got a problemyeah, i got a problem with youdon’t pretend you don’t knowwhat’s the matter with you?
all i wanted to bewas just your friendand that would be the end of itbut you had to goand ruin everythingwith your stupid beautiful facewhat the hell
i got a problem with youi got a bone to pickdon’t pretend you don’t knowwhat i want from you
With Andrew all patched up, Ryan can finally relax. He tosses the towel he used into the sink, there is an obscene amount of red on the towel, the sink, and everywhere in between.
Andrew leaves the bathroom without so much as a ‘thank you’, eliciting an eye-roll from Ryan, even though no one is around to witness it. He follows his friend out to the dimly lit dining room.
“What are those?” Ryan points at the weird lumps on the table.
“They’re SUPPOSED to be giant cinnamon rolls.” Andrew sighs, and runs a hand down his face in dramatic fashion, decidedly avoiding the bandage on his forehead.
“Oh yeah, I see it now. I thought they looked like baked poop emojis… no offense!” Ryan gingerly prods the rolls, wondering if they would collapse on themselves as he did that. Andrew for the most part didn’t look angry, just tired.
“None taken. They did turn out pretty shitty.” Ryan bites back a laugh. “So what brings you here tonight?”
“Oh, the usual: boredom, loneliness, heartbreak,” Ryan replies, faux-cheerily. Andrew raises an eyebrow before giving a sympathetic smile.
“Yikes. Sounds bad.” Ryan simply shrugs in response, there isn’t much to be said about his situation, Andrew already knows most of the details. And reciprocally, Andrew had shared his own problems with Ryan. Critically, the one involving a certain someone whose name begins with the letter ’s’ and ends with the letter ‘Lim’.
It’s the main reason Ryan came over in the first place, none of his other friends can relate to his plight to the same degree that Andrew does. Granted, it’s still ways off from complete understanding but it’s better than nothing.
“How’s the side-business going?” Ryan asks as he flips through the notebook that was lying on an otherwise empty chair.
Andrew doesn’t answer verbally, only giving Ryan a weary thumbs-down. Scanning line after smudgy line, an idea suddenly dawns on Ryan.
“What if I helped you out? I may know jackshit about baking, but songwriting… I do know a thing or two.”
Andrew looks hesitant, he scratches at his beard absentmindedly. He’s the sort who would refuse to admit he needs help even when he’s completely and utterly at wit’s end. Closing his eyes, he sighs, tension leaving his body. Ryan knows he’s giving in.
“Okay, but I’m helping you too.”
“Deal.”
normally i can be cooland keep it togetherbut when i’m around youi can’t control myself
boy, oh boyyou just had to do me like thisjust one smile from youoh, and i melt away
“Do I really have to?” Andrew mumbles, he’s not exactly thrilled with this idea.
He and Ryan are in his living room, everything has been set up to film him performing one of his songs. They spent the past few weeks working on Andrew’s songs, some old, some new, but all Steven-related.
“Just trust me… even if you don’t post this online, you’ll be glad to have something to look back at,” Ryan assures him, while adjusting the lens on the camera to get the focus right.
Andrew pokes at one of the keys on the piano, the sound that it creates is shaky and uncertain, which is exactly how Andrew is feeling. Not many people know about this side of him. He’s always been too scared to sing in front of an audience, performing one of his original compositions is ever further out of the question.
What if he’s not good? What if people hate his voice? Or his lyrics? Ryan said he didn’t have to publish this online but… he can’t stop his mind from wandering into those dark thoughts. Worse still, what if HE hates it? What if he hates his own singing? His own voice?
A weight finds it way onto Andrew’s shoulder, pressing down so suddenly that Andrew jumps up, knocking his knees against the piano. Ouch.
“Hey, hey… relax. You got this.” Ryan’s smiling assuringly, he squeezes Andrew’s shoulder lightly. “You got an amazing voice, believe me… I’m actually jealous.” This line gets some laughter from Andrew, who shakes his head disbelievingly.
“Alright, here goes nothing…”
something’s differentmaybe it’s just mebut when you talkall i’m hearing isblah, blah, blah…
has the curse finally been broken?please let it bei’ve had enoughi did my time
“Nope, no way. ‘Bergara guitarrar’ is not happening.” Ryan is shaking his head so violently his glasses almost fly off. Shane merely laughs at his objection.
“I mean you don’t actually have to do it just because the hashtag is trending. I’m not going to force you to…” Shane trails off, a trying-to-look-innocent smile on his face. Ryan swears he can see the effort Shane is putting into trying to pop out a halo, and it annoys the hell out of him.
“What the fuck, Shane?! The entire reason you started the hashtag is to pressure me into doing it!” Ryan angrily snatches the bowl of popcorn out of Shane’s hands and stuffs his face with a handful. If he didn’t, he might end up saying something he’d regret.
“You got me there.” The playful energy in Shane deflates, as does his posture. Normally, this action puts a hole in Ryan’s heart but today it sits steeled, unpunctured. He needs to stay strong for this.
Ryan sets the bowl down on the table, one set of fingers clawing away at the popcorn, the other swiping across the trackpad on his laptop. The webpage is scrolling, slowly, but his eyes aren’t focused on the words. He doesn’t have the energy to read.
When he broke up with Shane years ago, he convinced the both of them that it’s because it wasn’t working. That Ryan didn’t feel the same way towards his boyfriend like he did before. But all of it was a lie. The real reason he ended the relationship was for Shane’s sake, the other man was still too uncomfortable with his own sexuality. Shane merely pushed onwards to please him, Ryan was certain of it.
He had initially though that Shane was just being awkward in a new relationship but as the months dragged on, it became abundantly clear that the whole experience was setting Shane on the edge. And that wasn’t what Ryan wanted for him, he didn’t want Shane to force himself to confront his bisexuality when he wasn’t ready. He didn’t want Shane to be miserable just so Ryan can date him, that’s a fucked-up relationship. Hence the break up.
It had initially devastated Shane but Ryan could see the tension in him dissolving over the next few days. Despite the uphill battle, they did eventually manage to return to being just friends. Ryan is certain that never in a million years will he regret his decision, but part of him still wishes that they can get back together. And that part has been getting louder and more insistent over time. Right now, however, all he wants is for Shane to go away.
Too bad the universe hates him, as Shane maneuvers around the dining table just to face him. He flips the chair around and sits backwards on it, leaning forward against the backrest. Ryan doesn’t look up from the screen but imagines Shane resting his head on his crossed arms.
“Ryan,” Shane pleads, sounding more tired than Ryan has ever heard him. “I just think it’s a waste to not showcase that talent of yours.” Ryan doesn’t buy it.
“Bull. Shit. You want to embarrass me.” His patience is running thin but Shane doubles down on his objective, much to Ryan’s chagrin. He leans in and lowers the lid on Ryan’s laptop, looking him straight in the eye. When Ryan refuses to maintain visual contact, Shane seizes the bowl and Ryan instinctually glares at him.
“I don’t. Serious! I’m not saying this simply because you’re my friend, but you got a gift! You should unleash it onto the world!” Ryan waves a hand, physically dismissing Shane’s compliment with certain irritation. He has a point, those words are almost identical to the ones he told Andrew last week, but he refuses to let Shane win.
“Yeah, yeah… still not happening.” Ryan raises the lid of his laptop back up, he cracks his knuckles and begin typing away. “Can we just focus on the research?
Shane sighs heavily, nodding reluctantly. He has given up, for now… Ryan knows him better than to think that he has seen the end of this.
back to the startjust a stranger to you nowno matter what i doyou won’t turn around
finally got to know youthen you just had to leave mebehind with all these memoriesoh, what am i to do?
The videos were a huge hit, just like Ryan said they would be. Andrew absentmindedly taps his fingers on his knees, watching the numbers on his phone’s screen climb. People are still very much into it, he’s uploaded three songs now and with each one receiving more praises than the last, they aren’t looking much like a fluke.
Andrew locks his phone and tosses it onto the pillow next to him. He should be happy about the success he’s found with his music. The reactions he got were well beyond his wildest imagination. The channel tripled in subscribers, and the videos individually garnered more views than all their previous ones combined. All good news. Except that one no-news.
There’s still no word from Steven, they did still message each other sporadically since Steven moved to Los Angeles to chase his dreams of starring on the silver screen. But ever since the first song went online, it’s been radio silent, and the lack of anything at all is beginning to kill Andrew from the inside. Maybe he’s on a shoot and hasn’t seen it, Adam had supplied so helpfully but they both knew that the chances of that was slimmer than Jim.
When Andrew first met Steven, he immediately changed his mind on the whole ‘love at first sight’ thing. It sounds incredibly cheesy but it’s like a fog had been lifted and rays of sun came piercing through the walls he spent years putting up. The boy was sunny, passionate, bubbly, kind, friendly, and oh so beautiful. Still is. Andrew was caught so completely off his guard that even Adam immediately noticed, and that guy lives in his own little world.
If only Andrew wasn’t so shy and reserved. The entire first month that they worked together, Andrew said nothing to him outside of the occasional instructions on where to point the camera. Their entire relationship was professional and strictly business, despite Andrew’s numerous attempts at opening up. When Steven questioned his standoffish behavior one fine day, all Andrew could return was a seizure-like spluttering noise and some brain-dead mumbling. It was an embarrassing time for everyone involved. Adam often voiced his desire to have been elsewhere when that went down.
Yet somehow, Andrew managed to convince Steven that he doesn’t hate him, and convinced himself that Steven meant more to him than just a for-hire cameraman that they found on Craigslist. The latter was easy, because it was so true. The two had so easily became friends, even closer than he and Adam was. And on the deeper, darker end, Andrew was certain he has fallen for Steven. How could he not? The man would show up on Andrew’s doorstep with his favorite pizza when he made an offhand remark about being peckish. At midnight. The extent that Steven would go just to make Andrew happy was so great that… there are no words for it. Andrew couldn’t imagine life without Steven, it was undoubtedly the best time of his life.
Then it all came to a screeching halt when Steven broke the news that he would be moving to LA after receiving an offer from an agency. He was finally going to fulfill his dreams of becoming an actor. But it just had to happen just as Andrew had finally gathered up the nerves to confess his feelings to Steven. All those words he spent countless nights preparing fell off to the side as he pulled Steven in for a congratulatory hug. Everything went downhill from there. Even now, almost an entire year later, Andrew can still recall the very words he wanted to say.
He needs to get out of here, he needs some fresh air to clear his mind. Andrew picks up his phone and grabs a jacket off the side table that he’s certain belongs to Adam. Keys. Wallet. Socks. And slip into shoes. Ready to leave, he pulls open the door and immediately freezes. At the bottom of the steps is a human-like figure. The stranger looks up and… that’s not a stranger, at least not in the literal sense. Then again, these days, Steven had become so distant that he’s basically one foot into foreign territory.
Andrew’s throat tightens, he wasn’t expecting this and it’s clear from Steven’s expression that he wasn’t expecting Andrew to open the door when he did. The two men remain frozen for several beats too long, neither were sure of what to do. Steven’s the first to break the silence.
“H-heading out?” Steven asks shakily, as if he were freezing. Granted, it can be objectively considered cold but this is nothing for Boston. Then it hits Andrew that had Steven had probably came straight from LA, the difference in temperature is probably something he hadn’t immediately gotten used to.
“Yeah…” Andrew replies stupidly, uncertain on what exactly to say in a situation like this.
“I’ll come back some other time-” Steven starts turning away and Andrew’s heart seizes for a split second.
“Wait!” Andrew yells and Steven freezes mid-step like a scared animal. “Actually, I was hoping you could… come with? I’m just going out for a breather.” The fear on Steven’s face melts away into relief, his eyes are uncharacteristically reflective.
Andrew sprints down the steps so quickly that he couldn’t stop himself from lightly colliding into Steven, who pulls back hastily as if that slight bit of physical contact had burned his skin. The unspoken tension between them is growing thicker by the second… but Andrew knows one place that can fix this. If it doesn’t work, nothing else will.
“Little Joys?”
“That’d be nice.”
look at me and tell me there’s not a thingthat you see that’s pulling you in nowor maybe… there is
look at me and tell me you want thisone, two, three, leaning closer infinally… kiss me
Shane’s not talking to him. Ryan knew it was a bad idea from the very start. Sure, it got over a million views… but at what cost? This was so not worth it.
Ryan’s reading over the lyrics again, trying to find what could have possibly triggered such behavior in Shane. He even got Andrew, who helped write it, to look through. They both came up blank. But Ryan hasn’t stopped reading the words on his screen, trying desperately to understand what happened. This is so frustrating.
The front door slams, oh good, Shane’s home. Ryan hops off his bed and walks out to the hallway, looking to confront his friend, hoping that he’s ready to talk. But Ryan stops when his eyes land on Shane, he mentally backtracks but it’s too late for him to physically backtrack. Shane is storming down the hall, heading straight towards Ryan like a homing missile, he stops when he’s merely two steps away.
“Are you fucking with me?” Shane asks curtly, the look on his face a perfect marriage of anger and hurt. Ryan opens his mouth and leaves his jaw hanging, unsure if it’s a genuine question that he’s expected to answer. After a few more seconds of uneasy silence, Shane grunts, fierce. “Answer me, Ryan!”
“I-I… What are you talking about?” Ryan is stunned by the outrage he’s facing, he knows Shane is talking about the song but he doesn’t know what part exactly.
“THE SONG!!” Shane yells at the absolute top of his voice. The volume sends a shiver down Ryan’s spine. “Why are you fucking with me like this?!” The eye contact is bordering on lethal, and it lasted almost an entire minute before Shane breaks it and looks down. His entire body is shaking.
“I know I shouldn’t have pressured you into doing it, Ryan, and I’m really sorry, but… but-” It takes Ryan far too long to register what’s happening before his very eyes. Shane is breaking down, crying, choking on the tears he’s spilling. That’s what the shaking was. Ryan’s heart is breaking into pieces, his ribcage tightens as he forgets how to breathe. Then Shane delivers the final twist of the knife. “You know I still love you, why would you do this to me?”
The world goes quiet. There are no sounds apart from the rushing of blood in Ryan’s ears. Time stands still. The waves of emotion retreats, the winds stop. It’s the calm before the storm. Then it hits Ryan all at once like a freight train. He’s tripping over his thoughts… Shane still loved him? He didn’t trust his ears to have heard it correctly. When he finally recovers, he pushes his need to clarify.
“Y-you still love me?”
“Yes, I do and yet you…” Shane stops to steady his breathing, his chest shuddering as he does so. “You g-gave me hope and then immediately take it away. What kind of sick joke-”
“It’s not! I love you, I really do!” It’s Ryan’s turn to cry now, the years worth of bottled emotions come rushing out. “I didn’t want to break up with you but I just… I-” Shane cuts him off with a kiss. It’s desperate, it’s resolute, it’s familiar… Like listening to an old favorite song that you haven’t heard in years.
A sudden thought hits Ryan on the side of his head and he quickly pulls back. “Shit, what about your girlfriend?!”
“My wha- Irene?” Shane’s tone is incredulous, as if he cannot even grasp the concept that Ryan could possibly think that. “There’s nothing going on between us, never was… never will be.”
Ryan heaves a huge sigh of relief. Shane looks onto him with the warmest smile on his face, and the happiest look in his eyes. They lean in and kiss again, this time softer and more gentle. It’s an apology, it’s an affirmation, it’s an ‘I-miss-you’.
They have a lot to catch up on.
when did everything becomeoh so messybetween you and me
if we could turn time backwould you pick meover the city of dreams
A mere two blocks away from Andrew’s place, Little Joys Ice-Cream Parlor is one of he and Steven’s favorite hangouts. The amount of time they had spent there was staggering, they were on first-names basis with all the employees there.
When they step through the doors of the establishment, several heads turn to look, mostly the employees. There’s a mixture of smiles and nods as a form of greeting their regular customers. There are few patrons around, typical of a weekday afternoon. Andrew and Steven immediately head for the booth in the corner without so much as a second thought, it’s their usual spot.
Normally customers are supposed to go up and get their food themselves but as regulars, Andrew and Steven gets a little VIP privilege. One of the employees, Jennie, was wiping down a table earlier but seeing the duo take their seats, she happily skips over to their table.
“Hey! It’s been a while.” Jennie greets with a giggle, the soaked cleaning cloth in her right hand is dripping a puddle on the floor right next to her but she doesn’t seem to notice. “What would you boys like? The usual?”
Andrew’s not in the mood to think about exactly which flavors he wants, so he simply nods at her question. It seems that Steven’s the same way as he mirrors his action. Jennie strangely doesn’t notice that something is amiss with their behavior and accepts their orders and merrily makes her way towards the main counter.
They wait in silence for their orders to arrive, neither ready to speak. Normally they would be sitting so close that their shoulders touched, despite the fact that the booth can easily sit six people comfortably. But this isn’t normally, and right now there’s just enough space in between for Adam to comfortably third-wheel them.
But even at this distance, Andrew can still feel the tenseness radiating off Steven’s body. His own body is stiff, aching, and uncomfortable, despite the plush cushioning of the seats. He desperately wants to shuffle in closer, put his hand on Steven’s knee, lean his head on his shoulder, and make things okay again. Before he can do any of that, Steven breaks the silence.
“Are they-” His voice creaks and he forces a cough to clear his throat. Andrew watches as a million different emotions flash across Steven’s face, but he doesn’t recognize any of them. Steven rests his elbows on the table, hands clenched together. He presses his hands against his lips in a frown, sighing. Then finally he leans back and lets his arms fall at his sides, he doesn’t look at Andrew when he asks.
“The songs… are they about me?” A lump forms in Andrew’s throat but not before his heart found its way into his mouth. He wants to answer but his tongue is tied up, scared. What if this is it? What if Steven’s here to denounce their friendship? Andrew tries to reason, why would Steven fly all the way here just to tell Andrew that he never wants to see him ever again? That doesn’t make sense.
“Please tell me they’re about me. They have to be! I… I really like you and-” The urgent pleading tone that Steven has taken on forces Andrew to look at him. There are tears running down his cheeks and Andrew’s stomach drops, feeling guilty for inflicting this on his friend.
Of course, Steven feels that way about him, of course! Andrew wasn’t blind to it, so why was he so scared? He tries hard to push aside the dizzying feelings to try and confess, but his thoughts are jumbled and his mind is fuzzy. He just can’t find the right words for the moment. Unfortunately, Steven misconstrues his silence for something else entirely.
“Oh my god, of course they’re not. I’m so stupid, I flew all the way here on a stupid hunch. What was I thi-” Andrew brings a hand up to cup the side of Steven’s face, and Steven immediately shuts up. Pinky trailing Steven’s jaw, Andrew takes in a breath to prepare himself for what he’s about to do. When words don’t work, actions will. Steven’s eyes are wide with wonder and he opens his mouth to no doubt ask what’s going on, but Andrew cuts him off with a kiss.
The kiss is slow and tender, as if Steven is something fragile that Andrew’s holding between his lips. He had dreamt of this moment so many times but nothing can prepare him for the real thing. And even though the kiss lasted only seconds, when they break away, the tips of Andrew’s ears are searing hot. His breathing is shallow and his cheeks are warm.
Steven looks lost, like he’s still processing the last few seconds. Andrew can almost see the 'buffering’ spinner in his eyes. When he finally catches up, he’s smiling like the ball of sunshine that Andrew knows and loves. The serenity of the moment gets interrupted by Jennie’s untimely return with the ice-creams.
“Aww!” She just can’t help herself, can she? With her usual grace, she sets down their orders on the table. “Don’t mind me, you two lovebirds carry on.” She cheekily winks at them and saunters off.
Andrew shifts his eyes back to Steven and he’s in a shade of red that rivals a freshly-picked cherry tomato. The entire scene is just too much for Andrew and he just laughs, completely enamored by the man in front of him.
“You still haven’t answered me…” Steven pokes Andrew in the side with his finger. Andrew ignores him and proceeds to take a huge spoonful of his multiflavored desert. When Steven pokes him again, he simply raises an eyebrow and makes a noncommittal noise, earning him a third poke.
Conceding, Steven picks up his own spoon and scoops a little bit of each flavor from his bowl, mixing them up. Just as he is bringing the spoon to his mouth, he stops to take a look at Andrew’s bowl and makes a face, one that Andrew is all too familiar with.
“For the last time, Steven, red velvet is not simply adding food colouring!” Andrew mock-scolds, flipping Steven off. “Stop judging.”
Now they’re both laughing and everything in the world is right as rain, once again.
is this love?i don’t knowbut all i ever wanted is in front of me nowi’m stuckwhat do i do?i want to tell you that i love you but i don’t know how

Closing Notes:
This was supposed to be short. Yeah, didn’t happen… I have no self-control. Also, I’m realising I’m really into certain tropes.

prompts for standrew
standrew la la land au
warning: contains spoiler for movie la la land
so i heard steven’s moving, and now i have just rewatched la la land. i want to losing my mind from reality, was planning to into this movie, but i can’t. whenever i tries to that, it just, made me remind of standrew a bit. okay mayve a lot. and at some point, i was only thinking like, what if they’re steven and andrew, what happened to these boys?
maybe they has been filled with hope and dream when they start to living in there. working at buzzfeed. or just disappointment and dejection, get tired of the life, the area. because nothing’s change, overwhelmed by the mighty wall and harsh realit.
but one day, they met one another at some buzzfeed party, instinctively they noticed each other in the crowds. it was love at first sight although they didn’t know at that time. (because andrew had a girlfriend at that time even though they were on the rock, because steven is hellishly oblivious in those thing and too busy to catch up, or simply both of them are idiots.)
in the beginning, they were bickering over such a trivia thing, or two, or everything. with some misunderstanding, they thought they’re didn’t mix well  but can’t help the mutual attraction for one another. you know, just like pride and prejudice.
as time passed, a lovely night they met at theater by sheer chance, it’s first time they bumped to another aside from work. after watching movie together rather awkwardly(couldn’t concentrated on the movie at all, god.) suddenly andrew insists to walks over steven to home. what? why? what’s going on? of course steven couldn’t get a single tiny signal, waved away the offer politely, but as always, andrew didn’t back down easily. in the end  they are walking side by side.
the night was still young and beautiful, especially in a lovely summer night, it was satisfied to just walking at here and there without good purpose. with not bad company. at the first they didn’t say anything, when steven asks where are we going(he don’t know why he asks, he was planning to go home straight!)  andrew took him his secret place. steven muttered and started puff a little from climb, when he was about to tell he’s going back to home, andrew just pointed at the view, and that was fucking amazing, up there, they can get the night view of the area at a glance. for a time steven was completely in awe. next time steven knew, he’s smile genuinely for a long time. he said thank you to andrew for bringing him here, such a wonderful place. andrew, who had stared at him whole time, instead of the view like he couldn’t stop, smiled at him, it wasn’t different from steven’s.  steven get blushed, it only made andrew’s smile wider.
they sit on some bench in there, started talking and talking again like it was first time they speck to one another. forgot tomorrow is still working day. even the night went to go sleep, finally they’re going home at around early dawn. andrew drives him home in the end. steven couldn’t think about that properly because he was too tired, though feel weirdly refreshed at the same time.  he invited andrew for crashing, but andrew said that he has to go home for preparing some work.
andrew watched steven until he disappear behind the door. as the door closed, he was punching the air in triumph. of course he was fucking tired. andrew couldn’t believe that he did this, he has to go work tommorow, no. now today. damn it. but it was fucking worth it. even he had to bribed jen for getting steven’s after work schedule. they’re gonna met again at office in few hours. if he get lucky enough, maybe they’re going for coffee together. or lunch. and andrew knows they’ll do the both.
soon, another day of sun is coming for them.
is there anyone for this prompts? please? just ignore above this line. i just need to read this au fic with standrew. or die. so. help me. and yeah i’m talking to you.

neko anon-ryan being a spicy boy at first and then, once he warms up to steven, a cuddly spicy boy. he will more than happily throw himself across steven’s lap and purr all loud (steven calls him purrgara). then ryan meets steven’s owner, andrew, and decidedly hates him. he gets introduced to steven and andrew at different times to avoid getting overwhelmed. that was a mistake because he’s possessive of steven and hates andrew for being steven’s actual owner. he’s scratched andrew before 100%

for the sentence starters............ “what does it mean when I can’t get you out of my mind?” and you already know who ;))))))
“What does it mean when I can't get you out of my mind?” Steven blurted out in a haste,
“What was that?” Andrew took off his headphones and looked at Steven quizzically, not having heard him the first time.
Steven immediately regretted asking. He knew what it meant of course, he’s not dumb. But denial is a force to be reckoned with. So is Andrew though, his mind unhelpfully supplied, to which Steven smartly replied back with: shut up.
He’s always liked Andrew, his quiet yet goofy demeanor. It always amused him how completely different Andrew was with other people. And yet for some reason his mind decided to crank the like scale up to 100, and the past few weeks his mind had been filled with nothing but thoughts of Andrew. The way Andrew smiled. The way he laughed. The gentle brushing of hands and shoulders when the two sat next to each other during locations.
At first Steven simply ignored these thoughts, opting instead to bury himself in his work so he didn’t have to think about a certain coworker. That didn’t work, so he decided to spend time reconnecting with the outdoors and talking with friends. However that was futile as well, all he could think about was how much more fun he would be having if Andrew were there. Which leads up to this moment of asking Andrew why. Why can’t he stop thinking about him?
“Steven? Are you ok? You kinda spaced out there.”
Steven startled. “No, no. It’s nothing, don't worry about it haha.”
Andrew did not look convinced, but let it drop in favour of returning back to his work. Steven slumped back in his chair, mentally scolding himself for being so rash. Adam gave him a knowing look, which Steven pointedly ignored. With a sigh, he heaved himself up and worked on finding locations for the next Worth It video, ignoring the way his heart beat when Andrew got him a snack and a drink, claiming that he noticed he hadn’t gotten up all day.
Hours later, Steven got up from his chair and stretched his limbs. He gathered his belongings and made his way to his car to go home, having been the last one of the trio to leave the office. He drove home and, once again, thought of Andrew.
When Steven was starting to doze off while watching a cooking show on Netflix, he got up and showered. When he came back he found two missed calls and texts from Andrew.
(11:49 p.m.) Andy <3: Hey Steven. I called, but you didn’t pick up the phone, obviously.
(11:50 p.m.) Andy <3: You’re probably sleeping right now huh.
(11:50 p.m.) Andy <3: Just wanted to say that I cant stop thinking about you either.

ok, so not a hc exactly? but all i could think when i saw where ryan comes up to in that picture is ryan just losing it over something silly shane says and burying his head in shane's shoulder bc he just cannot stop laughing. then shane starts laughing at how hard ryan is laughing and it just turns into a big loop of giggling and leaning on each other, meanwhile Steven's just there like ''idk whats so funny but i know there's no point trying to get you two to stop''
Here’s some cute shit from Steven’s point of view, Nonnie! This is based on THIS hella nice pic Steven posted a while back.
Tumblr media
(Read on AO3)
Going out with Ryan and Shane was always a mistake, Steven thought as he watched them goof around in line to get to the cameras. He should have known better, the voice so similar to Adam’s inside his head reminded him, but oh well—he thought it would be nice, a night out with his friends, who had just gotten together.
Maybe it was just the honeymoon phase, or the fact that they were complete and utter idiots when put together in any situation, the voice suggested. But whatever it was, Ryan and Shane were making him regret all the life decisions that lead him to this moment, right here, right now, as Shane poked Ryan’s ribs once again. Ryan jumped, threatening him with sweet, sweet death and whatnot, with the biggest smile in the world.
Dummies.
“Are you done? Can we please take some pictures now?”
“Aww, I’m sorry, Stevie boy, did we step on your moment?” Ryan said. The sweet tone of his voice could give him a headache were it not for the fact that he knew none of it was ill-intentioned.
“Did we dress up okay for your high class event?”
“Sure, too bad your faces ruin it all. Come on, it’s almost our turn.”
Shane giggled like a child, and Ryan rolled his eyes but walked with him. The person in front of them stepped into the photographer’s area, and they waited.
The conversation changed as quickly as it always did, with questions about each other’s work and the friends Steven hadn’t seen just yet. A week in Los Angeles and he still had so much to see, so much to hear. The fact that he didn’t know that these two were now official was just one of the many things Ryan had to tell him, and soon Shane had that face again.
That face of loving adoration as he listened to him talk and gossip. Steven blinked away the touch of jealousy that it brought; it reminded him of bright smiles and green eyes that never looked away from him when he was the one talking, laughing, eating and living his best life. He missed that, and he had missed this, these two loving each other and saying it all with just the way they looked at the other.
“His cat hates me,” Ryan commented, making Shane gasp in mock offence, one hand going to Ryan’s shoulder.
“He does not!”
Steven laughed, watching as Ryan turned around to face Shane, whose cheeks were suddenly pink, as though he had just now noticed that Ryan may mean that, just a little bit. He didn’t believe at all that his sweet boy Obi could hate anyone, but Ryan and his allergies were another story. He was a dog person after all, a dog person that took shots and meds to sleep in the same bed as the beloved cat of the man he was dating.
“He likes you, I swear he likes you!” Shane defended. “Obi is just a shy baby, give him some time!”
“He hissed at me today because I needed my shoe and he wasn’t cooperating! He always pushes my phone and caps when he finds them…” Ryan said, but there was a little spark in his eyes.
Ryan was doing this on purpose, working Shane up for some reason. Steven lifted an eyebrow, wondering what his friend wanted to achieve by this, what expression he wanted to produce on Shane’s face.
“And the other day, I swear to God, his hiss actually sounded like ‘kill’!”
“Oh for fuck’s sake, Ryan!” Shane shook his head. “Obi is a tiny little cat, what could he possibly do to you?”
“Close my throat and kill me?”
“That’s something he has no control over!”
Ryan laughed. Shane’s face was flushed and anguished, probably worried about the reminder of his boyfriend’s allergies. Whatever it was that Ryan saw in that face, it made him laugh with so much light that it made Steven’s heart beat like he was watching a movie and the two idiots were finally together.
Almost in slow motion, he saw the way Ryan was looking up at Shane, his eyes turning so soft at the same time as his head moved to lay on Shane’s shoulder, his back pressed against his chest. Shane looked down at him, frowning as he murmured something he couldn’t hear, but it made Ryan nod and softly say, “I know.”
They laughed again and Steven shook his head.
“What? What is so funny?” He asked, knowing there was no answer. Both looked at him and laughed again. “Ugh, there’s no point asking you, is there? Dorks.”
“It’s not good enough for your ears to hear, Steven,” Shane assured him. He rolled his eyes and looked back at the person directing the line when she called for them. “Picture time, baby!”
“Let’s show the golden boy how it’s done, big guy.”
Steven sighed, following them with a smile on his face.

prompt: one day the ghoul boys wake up in the golden boys’ bodies, and vice versa.
“I gotta pee. I gotta pee and I gotta pee with andrew’s dick but I don’t wanna touch it, I don’t—jesus christ—“
“you don’t wanna touch it?”
“of course not, shane! god this is so weird, I don’t wanna like, touch his dick without his consent? am I crazy? we didn’t ask to switch bodies like this.”
“it’s just peeing, man. he’ll understand. he’s peeing with your dick right now. or maybe mine? oh. I wonder who got my dick?”
——
“oh god, my back is killing me. just killing me. how does shane live?”
“do you want a massage?”
“[laughs] what?”
“I have ryan’s arms now. I feel like I could crush a car with these. look.”
“andrew please don’t make me stare at ryan flexing his arms. I have a reputation to mantain, I can’t have people seeing me drooling over ryan.”
“you look like shane now, though.”
“oh. you’re right, I do. well, then I guess there’s no problem, he stares all the time. and I’ll take you up on that massage, please.”

standrew + sasha sloan - runaway (angsty af) ┰ω┰
hello friend, this is so delayed and I am so sorry!
anyways, four months to the day after I posted my last fic, I’m back, with a metric ton of angst and unresolved romantic tension! set in the days leading up to Steven’s move to New York!
~4k, on ao3 here. the song that inspired this can be found here.
run away, runaway.
The Uber that picks Steven up at six o’clock in the morning smells like fresh leather and pine air freshener, like it rolled off the lot of a dealership only a few minutes ago. The inside is completely lacking in personality and customization. There are no trinkets on the dashboard, nothing dangling from the rear view mirror, nothing but NPR piping from the speakers.
Frankly, it’s almost strangely appropriate - a brand new car come to ferry him away to a brand new life.
The driver briefly greets him before pulling away from the curb and lapsing into silence, and Steven doesn’t try to pursue a conversation. For starters, it’s too early, and he’s too damn tired; he’d gotten maybe an hour of solid, decent sleep last night, even though he turned in around midnight. Most of his time in bed had been spent tossing and turning on his narrow couch, trying to find a spot that would send him off to sleep despite the racing of his mind and the way it had been desperately replaying every minute of the night’s events.
As the driver turns onto another street, one of a handful that will eventually lead to the interstate and then LAX and then New York City, the night starts unfurling again in the confines of his mind. He doesn’t bother trying to shove the recollection away, doesn’t try to distract himself with staring out the window at the passing scenery; it’s probably better that he get the replay over with now, so that he can get some sleep on the airplane and try to prepare himself for the hectic days and weeks to come.
So he closes his eyes, leans his head back against the firm leather of the seat, and lets last night (and the events that led up to it) wash over him in a wave composed of nothing less than pure and utter regret.
It’s Adam’s idea to have a farewell dinner.
He brings it up at lunchtime, a week before Steven’s official last day in the LA office, while they’re sitting at one of the picnic tables outside, sheltered from the sun by a massive umbrella and gorging themselves on food truck tacos. He says it so seriously that, for a moment, Steven can’t help but wonder if Adam has somehow misunderstood, that he’s gotten the impression that this is a permanent goodbye.
“You know I’ll be back here like, once a month, right?” he asks, wiping guacamole away from the corner of his mouth. “Probably more than that, actually.”
“I know,” Adam answers with a slight shrug of his shoulders and a fraction of a smile. “But still.”
“I think it’s a great idea,” Andrew chimes in from Steven’s side. Despite the fact that each side of the table could easily fit three people (or four if they squeezed together), Andrew is pressed against his side, elbow to elbow and thigh to thigh, like they’re filming an episode of Worth It, warming Steven even more thoroughly than the sun. “Who knows when we’ll be able to hang out again? We’ll probably be too busy working on the show whenever you come back.”
“I’ll make time,” Steven replies, feeling a frown tugging at his mouth. The three of them had discussed the logistics of his move, how it would affect the show, in fair detail when he’d initially told them about it, but he can’t help but feel that he’s missing something here, that he’s maybe overestimated how well they took the news. However, going down that path seems like it could be a tangent that could drag them all down in the dumps, so instead, he plasters a smile onto his face and leans across the table to steal a piece of chicken that has fallen out of Adam’s taco. “But sure, we can do dinner. Where do you want to go?”
“You should pick,” Adam says, carefully pulling his taco back so that it’s out of Steven’s reach. “You pick, and we can make the rest of the arrangements.”
Even though it’s really not that big of a decision (especially when compared to the decision that precipitated it, the decision to move across the country on what is really a hunch and a feeling), it distracts Steven’s mind for the rest of the day. Every time he opens a tab on his laptop, intent on researching something or checking his email, he somehow finds himself looking up restaurants both new and old, places they’ve visited over the course of Worth It and places he’s had on his must try list for months. No matter how hard he tries to concentrate, it keeps happening, over and over again, and finally, when five o’clock comes around, he throws in the towel and dedicates himself fully to the task.
After half an hour purely devoted to research, he makes a decision.
He’s just grabbed his phone to text Adam and Andrew when the latter comes up the stairs from the lobby, burying a yawn into the crook of his elbow. His shirt is dotted with dark stains and dustings of flour, and his hair is a strange mixture of flattened and spiky. Per the usual, Steven’s heart skips a beat at the sight of him and, also per the usual, he forces himself to ignore that particular skip so that he can speak without fumbling every word from his mouth.
“Think Adam would be down with Le Petit Paris for dinner?”
“For next week?” A small smile forms on Andrew’s mouth as he drops down into his seat at the desk beside Steven’s. “Yeah, definitely. Good pick.”
It’s such a casual phrase, really means nothing in the grand scheme of things (frankly, Steven is pretty sure that he could pick most any restaurant in the city, and Andrew would think it was a good pick), but warmth still flickers in his cheeks and chest all the same.
“Thanks,” he replies, busying himself with packing up his laptop so that he doesn’t have to focus on trying to pull his gaze away from Andrew’s smiling face. “See you tomorrow?”
“Bright and early. Night, Steven.”
There’s always been something different about the way Andrew says his name, something that makes it so much more than an absent minded way to end a sentence. It’s almost feels considerate, somehow, coming from Andrew’s mouth, and Steven has to swallow heavily before he answers.
“Yeah. Night, Andrew.”
&.
The week seems to pass in the blink of an eye.
Every available moment is filled with something to do. When he isn’t at work, he’s at home, figuring out which of his possessions should go into storage for the time being and boxing up the rest, or he’s out with his friends or people from the office, soaking up every last bit of California sun, because he doesn’t know when he’ll be returning for more.
By the time Thursday morning comes around, his apartment looks like he’s just moved in. The only article of furniture still in one piece is the couch, which he’s been sleeping on for a few days. He spends the first half of the day keeping track of everything as movers load the carefully packed cardboard boxes and furniture into a truck, ready to take it across the country. When they drive away, his apartment is so empty that every sound he makes, every footstep and hum, echoes back at him.
Even though there’s probably some more cleaning he could do, the echoing starts to get at him, and he heads into work shortly after lunch, aiming to have a productive afternoon, to wrap up some stuff that will be easier to handle in person than from a few thousand miles away.
Instead, he spends the afternoon saying goodbye to what feels like seemingly everyone in the LA office. He picks up stakes a few times, moves to a different part of the compound so he can maybe have a better chance of focusing, but each time is to no avail. Someone, whether it be Jen or Kelsey or Garrett or Alix, always finds him.
At four thirty, he gives up. He isn’t going to get anything done, not now, and besides, their dinner reservations are in an hour; even if he didmanage to buckle down and focus, he’d get torn away again just as he was starting to hit a groove. So instead, he heads back upstairs to his desk to make sure he hasn’t forgotten anything, to make sure he hasn’t left behind a mess for whoever will be taking his place.
He hasn’t. It could use a quick wipe down, but other than that, he’s already managed to remove all traces from it. The little trinkets that have accumulated on it over the years are gone, removed one at a time over the past few weeks. The drawer underneath it is empty of any personal effects; there are a few pens and other supplies rolling around, but he decides to leave them there as a kind of housewarming gift for his replacement.
Compared to Andrew’s desk on his left, with its box full of plushies and the photographs carefully peeking out of books, it looks downright sterile. At the sight of it, Steven’s chest grows momentarily tight, and he forces himself to tear his eyes away.
He’s not going to let this be a problem. He’s spent years carefully keeping his emotions at bay, keeping his feelings for Andrew tucked away the best he can. On the few occasions that they’ve escaped, he’s always been able to come up with a reasonable excuse, always been able to explain them away as a bit for an episode or the result of one glass of wine too many.
As much as it aches to swallow them down now, he’ll be damned if he’s going to let them slip out on today of all days.
Leaving his desk behind, he heads across the compound until he reaches the studio where Eating Your Feed is filming. He can hear laughter leaking out through the door, and part of him wants to slip inside, wants to watch his friends having fun, wants to watch Andrew having fun. Part of him wants to simply memorize the smile that’s no doubt gracing Andrew’s face, wants to keep it close to his chest so that he’ll have it on the long nights between now and the next time he comes into town.
But, as nice of a memento that would be, it would also hurt, having that smile living in his mind but not being able to access the real thing, and while Steven may be many things, he’s not that much of a masochist.
So instead, he leans back against the wall opposite the studio and distracts himself with his phone while he waits for filming to finish up. Thankfully, he only has to wait about twenty minutes before the door opens, and Niki and Rie come out. He says yet another round of goodbyes to them, and they’re just heading down the corridor when Adam, Annie and Andrew come out as well.
“Ready for dinner?” Adam asks.
“Whenever you are. Do you guys wanna change first?” Adam and Annie shake their heads, but Andrew nods emphatically.
“Yeah, please. That room is way too hot.”
“That room is the perfect temperature,” Annie responds, deadpan. “You just sweat more than any human being should.”
Andrew shrugs. “You’re not wrong. Meet you guys out in the parking lot.”
Adam is the only one of them who drove in today (Steven sold his car last week, and Andrew’s is in the shop), so they wait by his car, leaning against the hood and talking about how the shoot had gone. The evening looks like it’s going to be a beautiful one; the sun has begun to slip towards the horizon, still providing illumination but with less of the heavy heat that’s been sitting low over the city for the last few weeks, and there’s not a cloud in the sky, no sign of any rain that might put a wash on the evening.
Really, he couldn’t have asked for a better last night.
But that’s before Andrew comes out of the building.
At the sight of him, the words Steven was planning on saying to Adam and Annie die in his throat. Andrew’s plain white t-shirt is gone, replaced with a black button-up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, exposing the cords of his forearms and the watch strapped around his wrist. It looks like he ran water through his hair as well; it’s slicked over to one side, flyaways tamped down for the time being, although Steven wouldn’t be surprised if they reappeared soon.
Simply put, even though there’s nothing particularly new or unique about the outfit, nothing out of the ordinary, Andrew looks amazing, and Steven suddenly feels like this is a horrible idea. He feels like he should come up with an excuse, any excuse, to get out of dinner, because this is going to be painful. This is going to hurt more than he’s prepared to deal with.
But it’s too late to back out. Andrew has already reached the car, and Adam has dug his keys from the depths of his pocket. If Steven were to flee now, he’d be hurting his friends, and he wants that like he wants a hole in the head.
So, with his heart heavy in his chest, he slides into the back beside Andrew, tries not to catch the scent of Andrew’s cologne (and fails), and attempts to portion off the part of his brain that has a thing for Andrew, that has had a thing for him pretty well from the first day they met.
&.
Remarkably, he manages to keep himself under control for almost the entirety of dinner.
They keep the conversation light, turned away from the real reason they’re there. They talk about work and movies and the amazing food in front of them, about Andrew’s new cat and Adam and Annie’s new apartment, but they do not talk about the move.
Nor do they talk about the fact that there’s something between Andrew and Steven, something hovering between them like an unseen fifth person, something that has Steven’s nerves pulled taut.
The tables at the restaurant are not unreasonably small, but somehow, Steven finds himself repeatedly brushing against Andrew. When they move to grab a piece of cutlery or their respective glasses of wine, their arms touch, and it feels like fire singing Steven’s skin. Even when they’re eating, Andrew’s knee keeps bumping against Steven’s.
But even more so than that, Steven can feel Andrew staring at him, almost from the very moment they sit down. Andrew’s gaze has always heavy, borderline overbearing, but Steven thought that he’d become accustomed to it, that he’d become adept at shaking the weight of it off like it was no more than a feather.
Apparently not.
It has to be obvious to Adam and Annie, but neither of them say a word or draw any attention to it. What they do do, however, is conveniently excuse themselves to the washroom once they’re finished up with their meals, leaving Steven with no way out and nothing to focus on.
Nothing but Andrew.
He knows that something is going to happen; it has to. Something has to happen, something has to pop the tension that’s coiling tight around his chest like a predatory snake, threatening to take every inch of breath he has. If something doesn’t happen, he’ll suffocate.
“I can’t believe it’s tomorrow,” Andrew says quietly. His knee is pressed against Steven’s again. Steven is looking at Andrew’s scraped clean plate, but in his peripheral vision, he can see Andrew tilting his head to look at him. He can feel Andrew’s gaze on him. “I thought…” Andrew pauses for a moment, and his fingers momentarily twitch on the clean white linen of the tablecloth. “I don’t know. I thought we were gonna have more time, you know?”
“Andrew…” Steven doesn’t intend on letting the word leave his mouth, but it exits all the same, hangs heavily in the air between them, as visible as a gaudy ornament on a Christmas tree. Now that it’s out in the open, he can feel himself tiptoeing towards the road he promised himself he wouldn’t go down, for both of their sakes.
But then again, would it really be so bad? Would it really be so bad if, underneath the warm-toned lighting of the restaurant, surrounded by the peaceful murmur of other patrons and faint string music, he simply confessed everything? If he finally told Andrew everything that’s been filling his mind, to some degree or another, for the past few years?
He could finally say I love you. I’ve loved you for so long. He could finally say, I think we could make a life together, or you make me feel safe, or you make me want to stay.
Or maybe he could simply look up from the table, catch Andrew’s unwavering eye, and finally kiss him, the way he’s dreamed about for literal years.
Would that be so bad?
The answer, of course, is yes.
Even though the words ache to spill from his lips, even though he is fairly certain that his feelings would be reciprocated, throwing all of that on Andrew now, the night before he leaves, feels like a special kind of disrespect. It feels completely and utterly selfish.
It feels cruel.
If there’s one thing Andrew doesn’t deserve, it’s cruelty.
“Yes?” Andrew says. His fingers have moved to Steven’s side of the table, and they’re curled into the thick fabric of the tablecloth. There’s a hopeful note in his voice, something that almost makes Steven reconsider, makes him say screw it and lean in anyways.
But he doesn’t.
Instead, he mutters, “Never mind. I forget what I was going to say.” He flicks his eyes away from Andrew’s fingers and back to his own plate, where he spears a noodle and shoves it into his mouth.
Even though the sauce is exploding with flavor, decadent and creamy, he can barely taste it over the sour taste flooding through his mouth.
Adam and Annie return moments later, and after settling their bills, they step back out into the night. The evening has grown cool, and there’s a stiff breeze that makes a chill run down Steven’s spine, breaking through the uncomfortable warmth that’s been stifling him ever since his aborted confession.
“Want a lift home?” Adam asks once they’re outside. “Or to the airport tomorrow? I can come pick you up.”
Adam’s companionship would probably beat the hell out of an Uber driver, but Steven’s decision to shake his head is twofold: he doesn’t want to drag Adam out of bed that early, and he knows that if Adam comes, so will Andrew, and Steven isn’t sure he could deal with going through yet another goodbye.
If he has to do that, he thinks his willpower might finally snap.
“I’ll be fine,” he answers. “But I’ll let you all know when I land tomorrow, alright?”
“You better,” Annie responds, pulling him into a quick hug. Adam follows up, grabs him tight and thumps him on the back hard enough to make Steven cough with surprise. After he steps away, he glances over at Andrew.
“What about you, Drew? Want a lift home?”
“That’d be great, actually. Be there in a second.” While Adam and Annie drift over towards the car, Andrew comes to stand in front of Steven. There’s no escaping his eyes now, nowhere Steven can look that won’t make it painfully obvious that he’s avoiding eye contact. Steeling himself with a deep breath, he glances from Adam and Annie to Andrew.
The breath does almost nothing to prepare himself for the depth of emotion written in Andrew’s eyes, on his face. It’s not quite sadness; if anything, it might be closer to regret, tinged with a bit of weariness.
Steven is willing to bet that he’s probably wearing a similar expression.
Without warning, Andrew pulls him into a tight hug, and Steven’s walls temporarily fall down. He fully melts against Andrew, wraps his arms around his neck and hauls him in close, until he can feel Andrew’s broad chest expanding against his own. This close, he can smell Andrew’s cologne, along with a hint of wine from dinner, and he knows that smell is going to transfer onto his own clothes, that it might very well be the first thing he smells when he wakes up in the morning.
“You can always talk to me, you know,” Andrew murmurs. The words brush warmly against the side of Steven’s neck. “Doesn’t matter what time it is. I’ll always answer, Steven.”
“I know.” The words have to traverse a lump in Steven’s throat in order to leave his mouth. “I’ll reach out if I need anything. I promise.”
“Good.”
They stay like that for a few more moments, fully wrapped around each other, Steven’s mind empty of any thought that doesn’t directly relate to how wonderful Andrew feels pressed up against him. Eventually, Andrew’s grip slackens, and Steven loosens his own arms in anticipation of stepping away.
Andrew steps back first, and as he moves away, he turns his head and brushes his lips against Steven’s temple.
It’s too gentle to be much of a kiss, but gentle or not, Steven feels it as viscerally as a punch to the jaw, and it’s all he can do to keep himself from reeling backwards, from simply dropping to the ground.
“Have a safe flight,” Andrew says, cheeks faintly tinged pink. “I’ll see you soon?”
Steven can’t speak. All he can do is nod, so overwhelmed with the urge to lurch forward and kiss Andrew that it physically hurts to restrain himself. With a slight smile, Andrew turns and walks over to Adam’s car.
It’s only after he clambers inside that Steven starts breathing again. As soon as he takes in a deep breath, warmth starts pricking at the corners of his eyes, and he refocuses all his energy on keeping that warmth from spilling over.
He’s successful up until the moment he gets through his front door.
From that point on, there’s no stopping it.
+++
He can’t see the terminals yet, but LAX is still looming before him, present in the freeway signs overhead and the sight of planes taking off, disappearing into the sky.
He glances down at where his phone is resting in his lap. It’s still too early for Andrew to be up, but Steven can’t help but play with the idea of texting him, of saying something.
But what would he say? Everything that he wants to say is too long to be distilled down to a single text message, or even a string of them. He supposes that he could just say that he’s sorry, but that isn’t nearly enough. It’s not good enough. Not good enough for Andrew, who deserves nothing less than the entire world and all the joy in it.
Maybe one day, he’ll tell Andrew. Maybe one day, the spires of New York will no longer feel like home, and he’ll come back for good to the smog and sun of LA. Maybe he’ll come back, ready to spill everything, ready and willing to tell Andrew absolutely everything.
But maybe, by that point, Andrew won’t want to hear those words. Maybe he’ll have found someone else. Maybe he’ll have simply moved on, the distance between them, despite Steven’s occasional jaunts home, having killed off whatever exists between them. Maybe the distance will have killed or, at the very least, quieted everything that Steven is feeling right now.
With one last glance at the screen, Steven pockets his phone and sighs.
As painful as the thought may be, for the sake of both his own happiness and Andrew’s, he really, truly hopes that that ends up being the case.

It’s My Right to be Hellish // Standrew
Based off of this prompt (Title from Jealous by Nick Jonas)
Tumblr media
“Are you mad at me or something?” Steven frowned at his phone, looking confused. Andrew sighed and rolled his eyes, muttering that no, of course he wasn’t mad at him. However, Andrew didn’t exactly sound very convincing, and Steven wanted to scream. How on earth had he ended up with such an emotionless boyfriend?
“Baby,” Steven bit the inside of his cheek, unsure of what to do. There wasn’t much to do, considering the fact that he was in Europe. “Look, if you’re mad, we can facetime later instead, because this is just making me upset and I would rather sleep.”
“I’m not mad at you,” Andrew repeated. No one said anything for a while, and Steven was about to hang up on him when Andrew started rambling. “I’m just… why did you cuddle with Zach? Why have you seen Zach naked and not me? Why didn’t you do that episode with me instead?”
When Andrew spoke, Steven finally understood, and he began laughing, much to the slightly older man’s confusion. “Steven, why are you laughing at me? This isn’t funny!” Andrew whined.
“Wait, are you jealous? Of Zach?” Steven grinned, rolling his eyes at how foolish the other man was being. “Babe, I did that episode with him because of his back problems. No excuses for the cuddling except for slight click bait, and if you didn’t notice, I didn’t really want to see him naked.”
“You still did, though,” Andrew grumbled, still looking very much jealous, and Steven suspected that he wasn’t entirely happy with Steven’s explanations. Andrew was actually quite adorable while grumpy, Steven realized, and took a screen shot.
“Did you just screen shot me?” the other man exclaimed, his eyes filled with confusion as he let out a small chuckle. “Why?”
“Because you’re adorable, and I want to remember this,” was the simple explanation from Steven, and if nothing else, it made the blond even more confused.
“You want to remember this?”
“Yeah, I mean, what’s not to love about a grumpy and jealous Andrew?” Steven grinned, and the other man finally broke into a grin, laughing stupidly.
“You’re a dork. I love you,” he said fondly, and the slightly younger of the two blushed. They had never actually said those words, and hearing them from Andrew now made his whole heart melt.
“I love you too, and I promise, when I get back, you can get loads of cuddles,” he promised his boyfriend, who looked just as surprised as Steven by the fact that they had just uttered their first ‘I love you’s.
“Can you see me naked too?” Andrew asked, and Steven suspected that he was completely serious, due to his facial expression and the tone of his voice.
“Andrew!” he exclaimed, feeling himself blush already. And if he was blushing now, he had no idea how he would react if he actually were to see him naked.
“What?” his boyfriend asked innocently, and Steven just shook his head at him fondly.
“I hate you.”
“You love me,” Andrew smiled at him, and Steven had to admit it that yes, he really did love him. Even through the stupid food puns, dorkiness and jealousy. So instead of talking back to him, he just let out a cheesy:
“Yeah, I do.”
“I’m going to be sitting there naked when you get home,” Andrew told him, and Steven had to resist rolling his eyes, as his face inevitably went back to beet red.
“I…” he was about to protest, but it didn’t take long before decided to just give up. “You know what? Sure. Do that.”
“Wait, really?” Andrew’s eyes widened, looking genuinely surprised at Steven’s words.
“Why not, I mean, I’ll probably act like a 12 year old girl seeing a penis for the first time, but if you’re into that?”
“Oh my god,” Andrew laughed. “I miss you. Come home soon.”
Steven told him that he missed him too, agreed to come home as soon as possible, and told him good night, before hanging up. Steven had actually kind of liked jealous Andrew, and if Steven put the screen shot of Andrew as his home screen, it was not at all because of how adorable he had been. Not at all.

Prompt: Andrew finds out that Steven likes men with beards so he decides to grow one. Although he does learn that Steven loves him regardless, Steven still is quite into beard burn and he won't say no to Andrew growing his stubble/beard (Not necessarily NSFW, kinda up to you on the frontier).
Title: Growing on Me
(ao3 link for those who prefer: here)
Andrew’s trying his best to focus on this video he’s supposed to be editing but it’s hard to when his boyfriend is literally sitting across him, laughing his sweet ass off. Steven and Jen are going through a bunch of BuzzFeed quizzes just for the fun of it and they are having an absolute blast.
After a few more failed attempts at concentrating on the task at hand, Andrew decides to stop here for now. He yanks his headphones off and just when he does that, he hears Steven commenting on one of the options in the quiz.
“…definitely the bearded guy. Men with beards are HOT!” That’s information Andrew definitely needed to hear.
Andrew walks around the desk to cross over to where Jen and Steven are sat. As he approaches, Jen looks up from the screen to greet him, Steven is still too consumed by the questions laid in front of him.
“What’s this?” Andrew asks, intrigued. He rests a hand on the table and leans forward, trying to read what’s being displayed.
“Pick your favorite looks and we’ll tell you who’s your true soulmate,” Steven reads right off the screen. “I wonder who I’ll get…” Steven must see something in Andrew’s face that isn’t there as he immediately starts backtracking. “I mean y-you-… you! …you are the one for me, of course! I just- this is just- The quiz mean nothing, Drew!”
Andrew cackles loudly, causing a few heads to turn. He honestly can’t believe what just happened, they should’ve been filming it.
“I’m not mad, don’t worry.” And Steven breathes a huge sigh of relief, Jen is clearly amused by this exchange as she’s giggling away. Andrew gestures at the laptop. “Keep going, I’m curious too.”
After several minutes of in-depth pondering, Steven finally reaches the last question and…
“OH MY GOD!” Steven jumps out of his chair, and is stumbling over the wires running across the floor. Jen is screaming like a crazed sports fan whose team just won. The entire office is looking over at them but only for a brief moment, these kinds of outbursts are more than common around here.
Andrew reaches out and turns the laptop to face him so that he can get a better look at the result. It reads…
You got: Andrew Ilnyckyj! BuzzFeed’s very own ‘creepy’ guy. Don’t let that cool, stoic exterior fool you, he is secretly a lovable goofball. A man of many talents, Andrew is more than capable of whipping up a scrumptious dinner for you, and can even charm your socks off with his wide history and geography knowledge. Plus, he loves animals too! Who said the perfect guy doesn’t exists?
That little snippet put a hot blush on Andrew’s face. He doesn’t even think he’s that much of a catch, much less being ‘the perfect guy’. Steven appears to disagree as he pulls Andrew in for a kiss, hands wrapping around his waist.
“So does the quiz still mean nothing?” Andrew asks when they part. Steven’s grip on his waist tightens, and he brings his face in closer. Their breaths mingle as Steven replies in a low voice.
“Yes. I don’t need a dumb quiz to tell me anything.”
So that soulmate quiz thing may actually be accurate but… Andrew’s not taking his chances. It took him so long to finally get into a relationship with Steven, he’s going to do everything in his power to see it through. Even if said ‘everything’ is going to get uncomfortable for him.
Andrew has scratched at his jaw over twenty times for the last few minutes, so it’s no surprise that it caught his boyfriend’s attention.
“Beard problems?” Steven asks the next time he sees Andrew scratching away. Andrew stops mid-scratch, he smiles, hoping to make it look like less of a problem than it actually is.
“No, just…” He then continues scratching when he can’t stand the itch. “…really itchy”
“Why don’t you shave it off then?” Steven suggests nonchalantly, taking another bite of his pizza. Andrew feels his heart sink, if Steven is suggesting that… Does he think Andrew can’t handle a little prickling? Granted, what he has on his face is more stubble than beard, and he already has this much difficulty living with it. Maybe he should just- No. Andrew shakes his head, he’s not giving up.
“N-no, it’s fine. Just needs some time to get used to it, that’s all.” Andrew replies, aggressively rubbing the side of his face in hopes of ending the irritation.
“Oh-kay…” is all Steven says, continuing with consuming his lunch.
Damn the itchiness, Andrew’s just gonna have to grin and bear with it. He’s going to make Steven swoon so hard with his beard, and no amount of irritation is going to stop him.
Andrew picks up another slice, focusing on the chewing and the swallowing and the flavor, and pushing any thoughts of his facial hair to the back of his mind.
It’s been two whole weeks since Andrew has seen his boyfriend, and he wants to make Steven’s six-hour flight from New York completely worth the time. Andrew went ahead and tracked down the very quiz that Steven took to find that specific image of that bearded man. It took hours of preparation but Andrew thinks he has the look nailed down.
Andrew watches as waves of people pass him, he checks the time. Steven should be out by now. Just as he thinks this, Steven steps out of the arrival hall looking all around like a lost child searching for their parent at a mall. Andrew chuckles to himself and walks over to the bewildered man who is still looking the wrong direction.
“Hey kiddo, are you lost?” Andrew puts on a comically deep voice and a playfully concerned face. Steven spins around immediately, not yet recognizing his own boyfriend standing in front of him.
“No sir, I-… Andrew?!” His eyebrows rise up so high that they almost disappear into his white cap. Steven’s checking him out up and down, and Andrew is feeling just a little self-conscious to have that kind of attention on him, in public no less. “Is this your Halloween costume? Are you going as Adam?”
“What? No…” Andrew looks down at his clothing, which Steven is now thoroughly inspecting and oh god. He has a red and blue plaid shirt on, black skinny pants and with the beard… it’s the holy trinity of the iconic Bianchi look. All he’s missing is the glasses, which he fortunately doesn’t need. “I just… I heard that you’re really into guys with beards so…”
Steven laughs at that and it’s the most cute, innocent laughter Andrew has ever heard. Steven’s bent at the waist and doubled over, shaking with mirth. When he finally regains his composure, they are tears in his eyes that he has to wipe away. Andrew doesn’t understand what’s so funny.
“Oh my god, Drew! I wasn’t trying to hint at you or anything!” There’s a little tingle that runs down Andrew’s spine, like always when Steven calls him by that nickname. It’s sorta distracting him from the moment.
“I… I didn’t think you were, just thought that maybe I should take a little initiative…?” Andrew shrugs, unsure of how to explain his thought process.
“Even so, I don’t think Adam is a good look on you.” He frowns and yeah, Andrew already has thoughts to rework his style. Still, he feels it’s important to explain his intention here.
“I just want to make you happy,” Andrew kinda mumbles, not moving his lips as much as he should, as if he’s ashamed to admit it. He stares down at the floor like a shy high-schooler asking someone out to prom.
When he finally gathers enough courage to sneak a look at Steven… he is looking at Andrew like he’s the biggest dummy on the planet. He takes a step towards Andrew and brings a hand up to cup his face, soft fingers gently stroking his beard.
“And you do. I love you, Andrew… beard or no beard, it doesn’t matter.” Steven’s smiling at him with the intensity of a thousand suns, and the warmth bursting through Andrew’s heart matches it in magnitude. It’s sappy but true.
“I know. I love you too.” Andrew closes the distance between their lips, and maybe it’s from missing him so much but Steven’s lips taste way sweeter than Andrew ever remembered. Even over the hubbub of the airport, Andrew can distinctly hear the tiny noise of satisfaction coming from Steven. When they pull away, it’s Steven’s turn to look embarrassed.
“You know what? I actually really like it, it’s really rough but…” Steven leans way in, bringing his lips next to Andrew’s ear, the hot breath almost making him shiver. “…that kinda turns me on.”
Before Andrew can formulate any sort of response, Steven’s walking off with the baggage cart. What a tease. Andrew catch up to him with double-wide strides, returning to normal once he’s side-by-side with his man again.
“I didn’t really like it at first either but it’s growing on me.” Andrew pauses for dramatic effect, Steven is already preemptively rolling his eyes because he knows where this is going. “Literally!”
Andrew’s pointing finger guns at a very done Steven, he even pretends to fire a few shots. The taller man lifts one hand off the handle of the cart to slap him on the arm, but he’s chuckling at the pun regardless.
“Not your best work. I give it an 8.”
“Out of 10? That’s a pretty good score.” Andrew wrestles for control of the cart away from Steven, who initially resists but gives up to yawn.
“No, out of a 100. You’re failing miserably.” That’s what he claims but Andrew knows better. The fondness that’s on full display on Steven’s face tells him all he needed to know: he succeeded perfectly.
Closing notes:
Some of you may notice that I actually teased the title in the last prompt fic.

Magic = bad. Now Steven and Andrew have to look after smol! Ryan and Shane who have a crush on each other, while trying to hide the fact that they also have a crush on each other (or vice versa)
I woke up on cold sweat I know you’ve done a smol!aubefore I meant child ksjfks
I gotcha Anon no worries ;D
“Oh my God isn’t that a precious little guy!” Freddie exclaims, bending down to look into the face of the kid Steven’s carrying on his hip. The maybe five-year-old boy beams at Freddie with a huge, white smile before giving Steven a look she could almost interpret as smug and Steven rolls his eyes.
“A relative of yours?” She asks, when Steven doesn’t answer and the kid stays quiet. That question gets her offended glares, funnily enough from both Steven and the boy.
“Really, Freddie? Because we’re both Asian? I expected more of you.”
“Uh, no?” She gives him a judging look. “I’m asking because you’re carrying him around and I don’t assume you stole someone’s child. You also don’t strike me as someone who has a secret baby, so I figured he might be a cousin or something.
“Oh.” Steven deflates. The kid is giggling.
-
“You really didn’t have to make eyes at Freddie, you know.” Steven grumbles as he continues his way towards the Buzzfeed “Kiddie Corner” where employee’s with children can leave their kids in careful hands.
“I would have talked to her if you didn’t tell me to keep my mouth shut,” Ryan complains. It’s weird. The vocabulary and cadence is still the same, but Ryan has the voice of a little kid now and his tongue is clearly stumbling over a couple of words. He doesn’t have a lisp, but he sounds like he still has to get used to having a smaller mouth and less teeth and whatever other changes he went through when he got turned into a kid. Steven always told him not to mess around locations too much, but Shane was a bad influence on him. At least Shane got cursed as well. Steven briefly wonders how Andrew is doing. That thought makes him nervous, so he answers Ryan instead.
“I had to. You sound nothing like a little kid, Ryan. People would notice something’s up.”
“I doubt that. People usually are as stupidly dismissive as Shane is. They love to think up the dumbest of explanations.”
“Will you stop talking about Shane for five minutes, Jesus. You’ll see him again in a few.”
“I’m not- I didn’t-” Ryan starts stuttering and under normal circumstances, Steven would sit back and laugh at Ryan’s dumb crush on his co-host, but right now he is busy.
When he hands Ryan off to the caretaker and she asks for his name, Steven freezes. He can’t call the kid Ryan, people would notice how much he looks like Buzzfeed Unsolved’s Ryan Bergara. Ryan of all people saves his ass:
“I’m Ricky!” He calls out, childlike voice surprisingly believable as he holds out his hands towards the lady who just laughs and takes him out of Steven’s arms.
“He’s a cousin of mine…” Steven mumbles, but he is mostly ignored because the lady has started to chat with “Ricky” about the games they could play.
Not for the first time that day, Steven wishes that Andrew was with him.
-
Shane is a little bored. He likes kids, they are fun, but usually he is in some form of “authority” or at least intimidating in whatever way kids consider a very tall dude. Now, he is barely taller than the children around him. The other children because he is a child as well. It’s been a long time since he’s been one and he is sure he is acting suspicious. At least this places has Mega Bloks, even though Shane would have preferred Lego.
He is building aimlessly and without a real plan, when suddenly he’s tapped on the back. He squares his shoulders, preparing to discourage whatever kid is trying to join him when he spots a familiar face. It’s not quite as familiar as it used to be, but he can still see Ryan in this kid. Even if not, they woke up together on location yesterday, turned into little kids and panicking. Ryan looks a bit better now.
“Oh. Hey. Steven’s here, then?” Shane keeps his voice low so nobody listens in. Ryan nods.
TJ and Devon had transported the “kids” home and - in lieu of a better place - left one Ghoulboy each with one of the Worth It Boys. Adam was spared because he is currently assisting with another shoot for a couple of days. Andrew and Steven both thought they were being pranked for a Buzzfeed video, but eventually admitted that no child actor could reproduce Shane’s completely insane and off-track ramblings that well. Ryan had complained a lot about being handed off to Steven but Shane understood. They couldn’t just go home. Sure, they still had their adult minds so it wouldn’t be exactly like leaving children unsupervised, but a lot of things were way too dangerous to try alone and at their current height. Shane really doesn’t want to get smashed in the head with the microwave because he can’t reach it properly, so having Andrew for assistance had been really helpful. Shane made a point of telling him so.
He doesn’t know how Steven and Ryan spent their evening but he had a relatively normal night in with Andrew, except that Andrew insisted to bring him to bed at eight because at the moment, Shane looks to be about six and it eight is a normal time to go to bed for someone of that age. He had tried to protest, but realized that he was actually close to passing out when Andrew put him on the couch and tucked him in. That last part was so unnecessary, but Shane fell asleep before he could complain. Apparently, his body very much had the metabolism and inner clock of a little kid because he slept for ten hours and woke up feeling refreshed and energetic. He hadn’t felt like that in forever.
Ryan looks like he did yesterday. For someone who knows him well, it’s very obviously Ryan, just a little different. His hair is even messier than before and his cheeks are a little rounder, but his eyes and his smile are as big and as bright as before. Well, minus the constant bags Ryan usually has under his eyes. He looks a lot more fresh faced now.
“Wanna play?” Shane asks, indicating towards his half-finished whatever the hell he is building. Ryan looks at it before shrugging and dropping on his knees on the play mat, scooting closer. They are dressed in kid clothes now, thanks to Devon and TJ making a quick stop to buy them proper clothes yesterday. Until then, both he and Ryan and been wrapped in their ow (now way too big) shirts. Shane has to admit that Ryan looks adorable in his blue overalls. It’s a strange thought and it’s also weird to see such a close friend as a little kid. Well, weird and intrusive in a way that makes Shane uncomfortable.
“I’m glad I’m not alone in this.” He mutters, because he feels like he should say it. Ryan is looking at him but Shane keeps his eyes fixed on the blue block he puts on top of the little wall he set up. “Not that I want you in the same mess as I am in. Just… you know. Helps to keep sane when you’re not the only one.”
“Nah man, I get it.” Ryan looks around to make sure nobody is listening. “I just hope this isn’t permanent.”
“Otherwise we have to create “Buzzfeed: Kids” and milk this mess for all it’s worth.” Shane grumbles and he hears the first real wheeze from Ryan since they woke up in this mess. It turns into a full laugh and Shane finally looks over at his giggling friend. It makes Shane laugh as well. Sure, Ryan’s smile is still the same. But their laughs sound lighter, softer. More innocent, he thinks and immediately makes a face at that.
“What’s up?” Ryan rubs the corner of his eye as if he actually laughed himself to tears.
“This is weird.” Shane mumbles. “I feel like I shouldn’t see you this way. This is something that is kept to our childhoods and our family and stuff. Not your co-worker who probably got you into this mess.”
“I highly doubt it was just you.” Ryan rubs his nose. It’s kind of runny. Someone will probably make him blow it soon. “And… I don’t know. It’s kind of fun. We kept finding out about obscure stuff that we both did despite never meeting before. But now we kind of… get to be childhood friends. Because for some reason you don’t have five years on me now.”
“True.”
Shane sits back and looks at the building they made. It looks horrendous.
“We will never be architects.” He says sadly and Ryan laughs again.
-
Andrew and Steven pick them up after work and decide to just grab dinner together. It’s easier than cooking and being in public will force them to not rant and panic about what happened to Ryan and Shane. It’s supposed to be relaxing. Really.
It’s only when the four of them are seated around a table in a nice little restaurant with Shane and Ryan placed on extra big cushions and the kiddie menu in front of them, that Steven realizes what this must look like. A sweet gay couple and their equally sweet little boys. Fuck. He only hopes Andrew hasn’t noticed. He glances over.
Andrew has his elbow on the table and his chin leaned into his palm. His gaze is on Ryan and Shane, who are playfully squabbling over the menu. Ryan tells Shane that he is ridiculous for wanting chicken nuggets in dinosaur shape while Shane fires back that if there ever was any time appropriate for that kind of stuff, it was now. Andrew is smiling softly and Steven stares, not realizing he does until Andrew’s gaze drags over to him and they both start, returning to their menus. Steven is sure he can hear muffled giggles from the “kids” but he won’t address it
The waitress is very fun and sweet and chitchats with the “children” about their favorite foods. Steven thinks that Ryan and Shane lay on the “cute little kid” stuff a little too thick but she seems completely enchanted by them, so he can’t really reprimand them in front of her.
“Oh he’s not my brother.” Shane says when Steven tunes back in. “He’s my best friend. My ghoulfriend!” With that, he takes Ryan’s hand, completely oblivious to Ryan’s face lighting up and turning red at the same time. The waitress giggles and mutters something about them being cute before she finishes taking their order and leaves. Shane seems fine with keeping Ryan’s hand, but the other boy winds his fingers free after a while, muttering something about Shane’s hands being sweaty.
Steven rolls his eyes and looks over at Andrew. Andrew is looking at him, a thoughtful expression on his face. The smile he’s directing at Steven is careful and soft and Steven is about to ask, but finds that he can’t. They all eat in a strangely awkward silence.
-
Shane sits on Steven’s couch while the “grown ups” are busy in the kitchen and looks at Ryan. They picked a Netflix movie to distract themselves and nearly got into a fight about it. Shane had seen no reason why they shouldn’t watch a horror movie as always but Ryan had insisted that it felt weird to him to watch one while he looked like he was five. Sure, he wasn’t actually that young, but still. Shane thought it was dumb, but he had conceded to watch Coco instead, which was more “age appropriate”.
“Did I overstep earlier?” He asks out of nowhere after staring at Ryan for a while.
“What?” Ryan blinks at him.
“When I took your hand, I mean. I didn’t... I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, I just felt like doing it.”
“I don’t know.” Ryan frowns at him as if he’s suspicious. “Do you always want to do that or just because I’m... I dunno, small and adorable right now?”
Shane laughs.
“You’re always small and adorable, Ryan.”
“Fuck off!”
“Language!” Andrew calls from the kitchen.
“Shut up, Andrew!” Ryan shouts back. “I’m not a little kid! Not really at least!”
Shane takes a deep breath when Ryan turns back to him.
“Would it be okay if I wanted to hold your hand sometimes? Or maybe... do other things?”
“What things?”
Ryan has leaned in a little. His hand is brushing the back of Shane’s hands and he seems a little apprehensive at what might happen. Shane can’t really tease him when he looks like this. A scared little kid, even more vulnerable than usual. So he shrugs.
“Once we figured this out, I mean. I would like to take you on a date or something.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I mean. I figured life is really weird.” He gestures to their situation. “And I’m not so scared about making things between us weird anymore.”
Ryan looks at him for a moment. His bottom lip is pushed forward as he is thinking and his brows slowly pull together. Then, as if he made a decision, he leans in and kisses Shane’s cheek. It’s just a quick peck, but Shane feels his face light up anyway.
“Okay, big guy. Once... once you’re a big guy again.”
They both wheeze.
-
When Steven and Andrew check on “the kids”, they find them asleep. Curled together on the sofa with Ryan’s head on Shane’s shoulder and Shane leaning against Ryan’s head, they snore. Andrew is smiling again, the soft, domestic expression that Steven has seen on him a lot the past few days. It makes his stomach flutter all funny and weird. They each carry one of the boys to bed and watch as they immediately curl on their sides, faces towards each other.
“I’m sure things will not be the same once this is all over.” Steven says, as he closes the door behind them.
“Yeah, I think the same. I don’t really mind, though.” Andrew is glancing at the floor when Steven looks at him.
“What do you mean?”
Andrew shrugs.
“It’s kind of... fun. Playing house with you and all.”
“Really? Playing house? That’s what you’re gonna call it.”
Andrew shrugs and chuckles to himself.
“Okay. What is so funny?” Steven puts his hands on his hips. “You keep smiling and laughing and looking at me all weird since we have this whole kid debacle. What in the world is going on?”
Andrew leans closer, almost caging Steven against the wall.
“I just think... you’re really sweet like this. Even though you and Ryan keep calling each other names and stuff, you’re really caring and you want to help them and I think that‘s admirable. And also really cute.”
“Oh.” Steven blinks. “Well, okay.” He doesn’t know how to deal with this information but he definitely knows that his face is warm and his heart is doing funny things in his chest. He kind of feels like he should take Andrew’s hand or something. So he does. Andrew links their fingers and smiles his weird little domestic smile again. Okay then.
-
Ryan and Shane wake up in Steven’s apartment, curled into each other and the stretched out versions of kid’s pajamas straining over their bodies.
“Thank fuck.” Ryan mutters as he tosses the too-small t-shirt aside. He’s about to get out of bed when an arm sneaks around his waist and Shane pulls him back against his chest.
“Shane!” Ryan hisses. “What if Steven checks on us or-”
“He’s busy.” Shane mumbles into Ryan’s hair, forcing the other man to settle into bed again. “Heard them talking last night. Stuff happened.”
“What stuff?” Ryan asks, but he lies down again, curling up against Shane’s side.
“Later.” Shane yawns and cuddles closer to Ryan, rubbing his back. “Sleep now. You’re much cuddlier like this.”
“Fine.” Ryan rolls his eyes.
He could ask later and mock Steven for whatever happened.

Dating in The Dark
The concept of “Dating in The Dark” was slightly interesting to Andrew, despite the majority of his conscious mind screaming at him that he should just stay home and not put himself out there, vulnerable to some stranger.
Honestly, he is surprised to find that he actually likes the guy they have paired him with. Their conversation was a little stilted at first, understandably – it’s kinda impossible to read the body language of your date if you can’t see them at all. Eventually Andrew finds that freeing, allowing him to focus more on the conversation and be a bit more bold than he would have normally been when meeting a stranger for the first time. Turns our he and his date both love video production and food!
