Earlier this year I threw star apple seeds in our potted plants. Was surprised to see them growing.

I am currently missing my home country (Jamaica)
I miss the days of walking down the street to pick up something from the supermarket and slowly walking back so I can eat the popsicle I got on the side with the things I was told to get.
I miss being hosed down in the middle of the road with all my friends because we refused to not play outside after it rained and our mothers didn't want us to track in mud.
I miss going down to Port Royal and making jokes with Mr Brown about things that have changed and things that never change all while walking on the black sand looking out to the sea because Mr Brown was one of the few people who built their home by one of the seas with a ten foot drop without a slope despite not knowing how to swim. "Di only company dats important mek di trip down fi si mi. Dats all dat matta"
I miss driving through the town and seeing the juice man selling ice cold bag juice on a hot dat alongside others walking around selling peppered shrimp, fresh fruits or just washing your windshield.
I miss the fruits that people don't know about in America that still can't be found even in the international stores like guinep, otaheite apple and star apple (at least where I live currently).
I miss the variety of mangoes to choose from. 41 different species of mango on the island and I still never got to taste them all. Now the markets are lucky enough to have 2.
I guess I'm missing it because staring at my son during Mothers Day made me realize that he very well could look at me as if I'm crazy as so many Americans do to me explaining my home and what exists. But until you live there and not just visit, you can never truly understand.
