art year in review!! As you can see, codywan still has a very good grip on everything going on in my brain. Though I’m surprised by how many other characters I got to explore this year.
Special spotlight on my unlucky command batch that, after about 9 months, I finished this year.
In total I got to finish 53 artworks in 2023, which is… insane, considering the year I’ve had. Thank you all for accompanying me on this art journey, being supportive, kind, and hilarious in your tags, comments, and conversations. 💜
I hate to be a hater, frankly I was really annoyed by haters of the kenobi show, whom I found were being mad at the most random things,
But with the Ahsoka show ending, I find myself sympathising.
Firstly I'd like to say the Actors, cinematographers, cgi artists, sound designers, musicians, costumers and literally everyone in post and pre production, did some of the best work I've ever seen on a show.
But unfortunately they were working on a script thinner than the paper it's on.
This series feels like the first draft that has glaring flaws.
Firstly, why are the two premises :Ahsoka grows from her trauma; and the ghost crew find ezra and thrawn linked?
They barely interacted in rebels and the only one she had a relationship with is dead (rip Caleb)
Secondly why the fuck is sabine a jedi, it took away from her character and just repeated the same arc we've seen a thousand times.
And most importantly theres already so many deep stories you can tell with any of the ghost crew w/o Ahsoka in this era like:
A grieving war hero general trying to navigate new Republic beuracracy to protect people while being a single mom to a force sensitive kid in a dangerous galaxy.
A guilt ridden mandalorian artist, who's secluded herself from the galaxy trying to complete a fools errand while running away from her past in which she inadvertently lead mandalore to its doom.
A once-lost lasat from his people and a repentant ex-imperial who almost destroyed said people and trying to make his way in that society while possibly falling in love
A Grand Admiral who always had relied on cold logic landing on a planet of witchcraft, with a boy who had defeated him through devilry which caused the boy to lose both his families just to protect his people and a chance to save the Galaxy from the admirals misplaced alliegences.
Like tell me all these stories couldn't have been told amazingly, with love and care, in an animated show, which wasn't wrapped up in the story of an unrelated character who's the main character for some reason.
Heck Ahsoka could've been given a better story herself where the plot could focus just on her and her important relationships with you know, Rex or Barriss?? Not just Anakin. And maybe tell us where she was in the original trilogy.
The High Republic: Escape from Valo is deeply heartfelt, moving, and full of hope and chaos that speaks directly to its readers. All while overflowing with action, fun, and laughs.

“We spent a year searching for the others. We couldn’t find any traces of them. They were gone. It’s just been us ever since.”Tep-Tep
Just when you think that The High Republic can’t get any more bombastic the dynamic duo of Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong double the chaos in Escape from Valo!

Feeling them exiled Mandalorian princess vibes while wearing my Heroes & Villains Mandalore blanket!
Just some some photos I took last fall.
Short review under cut:
I swear I don't JUST wear this blanket like a cape, but it's too nice not to! The fabric just feels so nice and heavy, while also being soft and comfortable (and ngl I'd love an actual poncho made of this stuff).
When I'm not wearing it, this blanket usually protects my couch chair from cat claws, and I think the fact that it's held up against 4 cats is all I really need to say about its sturdiness! You can see Cody having a go at it in the above video.
While this specific blanket is no longer on their site as of me typing this post, there are other really nice designs (including the Bad Batch), and a chance they'll bring this back.
This review isn’t sponsored, just sharing my honest thoughts.
That being said, here’s my non-influencer “refer a friend” code, for $25 off $75 the Heroes & Villains site!
Look, I was already on The Acolyte hype train but I'm so excited that it's the first Star Wars project to have a nonbinary lead and trans women in its cast and crew. And! For once! I'm actually decently confident that it'll be good!
"I initially had the idea of the film. So we were very much— Tom was doing the writing and we were doing lots of the discussing along the way. But what was great is we did sort of a feedback screening when were through with the edit and just wanted to get a feel for how other people were feeling about it. And the reaction was so good. So I'm very looking forward to seeing it with an audience tonight."

The Bad Batch Season 3 so far: No character scenes, just plot, plot, plot.
There might be viewers who enjoy the abundant plot arc around the mystery of Omega’s purpose for Project Necromancer. However the lack of, what some people like to call, “filler” episodes has really ruined what I liked about The Bad Batch to begin with.
There is so much forward movement in the plot and unraveling the mystery of Omega’s blood that there has been no time for the characters to breathe and sit with what has happened to them in the last two seasons. There has been no room for the characters to actually TALK with each other without just talking about the plot.
No soft and sweet moments between Hunter and Omega, no cute downtime moments with Wrecker and Omega, absolutely no discussion of Tech’s death and the Batch’s grief, no character development for Echo, and no real time to flesh out the trauma Crosshair experienced on Tantiss. All around the characters are just hollow versions of themselves. Absolutely infuriating.
Not a lot of scenes, just plot.
It drives me crazy when Star Wars does this. In the end what makes me tune in every week are the characters. So when they cease to have a personality and are bodies just to forward the plot it makes it harder to want to tune in. I liked the moments of the Batch being a family, snarking at each other, having internal conflict with each other and facing their problems and trials together.
What we have this season are those emotional scenes constantly getting interrupted by this Mystery Box plot that we are forced to care about because they want to make the sequel trilogy make sense.
I get it. Saga/story continuity and all that but you can’t do that in one last season with 15 episodes and expect it to be amazing.
