Steve's on an off-world team with three people who are infinitely smarter than him--a marine tech, a whosawhatsit engineer, and a xenobiologist with a bad attitude and a lamentable inability to keep it in his pants.
He doesn’t know if whatever he’s doing here means anything, or is worth the high likelihood of getting all his good years sucked out of him by space vampires, but, honestly, there was never going to be any normal for him, anyway.

That time Steve accidentally gets knocked up by Billy... IN SPACE!

au idea: lorne stays in the sgc post season 1, gets promoted twice bc of reasons and instead of sam, hes the one sent to run atlantis in season 4
Oh gosh, I love this idea! Okay:
Before he leaves Earth, he reads all of the Atlantis reports twice, once for the details, and then again for the vibes. He's been around long enough to know how to read through the bullshit, what to take at face value, and what to question the hell out of. He takes notes about the last point, because when he gets to Atlantis, he's going to be asking all sorts of questions.
He honestly never thought he'd be asked to lead the Atlantis expedition. It makes sense, he can see the logic, but it doesn't quite fit. And it's not just because it seems wrong to be replacing someone like Dr. Weir. (Two weeks in, he realizes he feels the fit. He feels how Atlantis folds itself around him, and maybe he doesn't know the people very well yet, and maybe some of them look at him with a wariness that's understandable and slightly disconcerting, but the city? The city wants him there. He wonders if General O'Neill knew it would be this way).
The city is a smoother operation than he'd anticipated. It's chaotic, but in a way that make sense, somehow. The people are tight-knit, and he gets that, he's felt it in the SG teams, though not quite in the same way. Here, there's trust and cooperation and a sense of purpose, and maybe people don't always like each other, but they'd die for each other. He thinks they'd die for the city too.
He likes Teyla Emmagan. A lot. He's not surprised by this. She seems to be surprised by him, though.
Dr. Weir often stayed on the city while her people went out on missions. Technically, Lorne knows he should do this too. But he can't. He wasn't made to sit behind a desk. He's a field officer, at heart. He wants to be out there. So that's how he leads. It works for him.

AU where Laura and Rodney meet when Laura goes to Canada for a tap dancing competition and he's the local kid picked to play the piano for her team.
The two of them interacting as highschoolers would be gold okay, literal gold.
Because they win.

“What- no, I mean- this isn’t my fault!” Rodney splutters. “The cat’s just dumb! There’s nothing but cobwebs and friskies between his ears!”
Or
John's straight out of a porno, Rodney's an irresponsible pet owner, and Newt just wants chicken noodle soup.

Places on the Winterstar John Sheppard will use for naps:
The ledges where the light membranes are. Pros: Warm (for a hiveship), soft backing. Cons: Has a heartbeat (sometimes a pro). Also bright (for a hiveship)
Unattended dart cockpit Pros: Private, dark, cozy Cons: Not intended for a human to lie down in, awkward shape.
Dark corridor not recently in use Pros: Unlikely to be disturbed, dark. Cons: Cold, kinda humid, could get stepped on by a Masked
Snowdrop's discarded overcoats she only wears for fancy screen calls. Pros: Soft, warm, smells like Queen Cons: Embarrassing
The Commander's bed Pros: Warm, soft, smells nice, perfect for sleep. Cons: Wraith heavy, can't move. Also they have cold feet.
Bonus - Places he doesn't use for naps:
His own damn bed.

places unknown | t, 3k jennifer/rodney, rodney/john, jennifer & john
for the polyshipweek23 prompts: long distance relationship, qpp, metamour, and comfy couch.
“There’s really no easy way to say this,” Rodney says on their very first date. “Well, no. It’s actually very easy to say, I just have no idea how you’re going to respond.”
“You haven’t actually said anything yet,” Jennifer says, taking a sip of her beer. The bar is loud around them and it’s late enough that some of the tables have been pushed aside for dancing, which was the whole point of choosing this bar in the first place. “So maybe say it, and then we can worry about my response.”
Rodney looks up from where he’s tearing up a straw wrapper on the table. “I have a boyfriend.”

potential au: lorne is on the daedalus expedition, sent out 5 years after the first atlantis expedition stepped through the gate to pegasus, on a mission to find out what happened and if there's anyone left.
OMfreakingG. I love this idea. So much.
Lorne isn't commanding the Daedalus, but he will be commanding the ground team if/when they find Atlantis. All he knows about Atlantis - all that anyone knows - is that the expedition radioed that they'd made it, everything looked good, and they'd be in touch. They were never heard from again.
Post-Ori, the SGC is limping along a little bit. The Ori are defeated, but it took a toll, and rebuilding is going to take time. Lorne was glad to take the expedition offer, because sure, he could help with that rebuilding, and he knows he should, but he's not sure he wants to. Atlantis is a risk, a pipe dream, a distraction. Lorne tries not to think about exactly how many people the SGC lost, how many people Earth lost, and what it might have been like if they'd had an ancient city with them, or at least as a safe-haven for evacuees.
Sometimes, on quiet moments on the trip, when he looks at Vala Mal Doran and she doesn't see him looking, he can tell she tries not to think about it too much either.
(She does see him looking, and she lets him see it, because yes, she's good at pretending she doesn't miss things she's lost, and yes, she'd made it clear (loudly) that she was joining the expedition for the possibility of treasure and new, shiny things, but that's not the reason. And she's fairly certain Lorne knows that).
None of them are prepared for what they find. They think they're ready for destruction, or a city limping along, more missing comrades and more losses. They're ready for tales of woe, for anger, for desperation and desolation. They're ready with supplies, and explanations, and a way back home. Instead, what they find is...confusing. It's a city, rough around the edges, but impossibly beautiful and intact. It's personnel they recognize from the past, or from dossiers. And when John Sheppard and Elizabeth Weir greet them on a bright pier of the shining city - in a style of clothing that Lorne's never seen, and that doesn't match anything in any dossier he read - he has questions. So many questions. But he says, "Major. Doctor. I'm Colonel Evan Lorne. General O'Neill sends his compliments on behalf of Stargate Command. We're here on a resupply or rescue mission," and he expects relief, or questions about Earth. He expects anything except for puzzled expressions and a wary exchange of glances between Sheppard and Weir. It's silent, awkward, for too long, and Vala is shifting beside him, uncharacteristically silent. Finally, Dr. Weir says, her tone pleasant and mildly curious. "Welcome to Atlantis, Colonel Lorne. Forgive me for asking, but would you mind explaining what Stargate Command is? Or where it is?"

I love the alternate stargate universes we've seen, because it's just like. what if the worst case scenario with the goa'uld happened. but also what if Carter and o'neill were married and were annoyed that the goa'uld put a stop to their anniversary date night. what if John was the obnoxious mensa student and rodney was the annoying playboy. what if teal'c had hair. what if John was a loner sherlock-type but in Vegas.

🤠🌟🚪🐓Stargate & Top Gun (AU) - Hangster in Stargate AU🐓🌟🚪🤠[Part 8]
Major Jake Seresin and Major Bradley Bradshaw’s first meeting (totally based on Carter/O’Neill first meeting in Stargate SG1 S01E01!💜 )
Tumblr media
Major General Kazansky: SG-1 and SG-2, take your seats. We’re still expecting somebody else, but I’m told he’s just arrived.
Colonel Mitchell: Who, sir?
Major General Kazansky: I'm assigning Major Jake Seresin to this mission.
Colonel Mitchell: I'd prefer to put together my own team, sir.
Major General Kazansky: Not on this mission, sorry.
Colonel Mitchell: Where's he transferring from?
Major Seresin: He is transferring from the Pentagon. I take it you're Colonel Mitchell. Major Jake Seresin reporting, sir.
Major General Kazansky: Let's get started. Colonel?
Colonel Mitchell: Thank you. Those of you on your first trip through the 'gate, you should be prepared for what to expect.
Major Seresin: I've practically memorised your report from the first mission. I'd like to think I've been preparing for this my whole life.
Major Bradshaw: I think what the Colonel is saying is, have you ever pulled out of a simulated bombing run in an F-16 at 8-plus G's?
Major Seresin: Yes.
Major Bradshaw: Well, it's way worse than that. By the time you get to the other side, you're frozen stiff, like you've just been through a blizzard, naked.
Major Seresin: Already picturing me naked, are you? For your information, that's a result of the compression your molecules undergo during the millisecond required for reconstitution.
Major Bradshaw: I can’t believe it. Another scientist, really? General, please.
Major Seresin: Theoretical astrophysicist, to be accurate.
Major Bradshaw: Which means?
Major General Kazansky: Which means he is smarter than you are, Major Bradshaw. Especially in matters related to the Stargate. Dr. Blackwood personally vouched for him.
Major Seresin: Major, I was studying the 'gate technology for two years before Dr. Blackwood and I made it work and before Colonel Mitchell went through. I should have gone through then.
Major Bradshaw: Well with all due respect, Doctor, I…
Major Seresin: It is appropriate to refer to a person by their rank, not their salutation. You should call me Major, not Doctor.
Major General Kazansky: Major Seresin’s assignment to this unit is not an option, it's an order.
Major Seresin: I'm an Air Force officer just like you are, Major. So, you might as well accept the fact that I am going through this time.
Major Bradshaw: I just have a little problem with scientists. They’re not cut for this mission, it’s too dangerous.
Major Seresin: Major, I logged over a hundred hours in enemy airspace during the Gulf War. Is that tough enough for you? Or am I going to have to arm wrestle you to prove you I’m the best?
Major Bradshaw: I’m sure I can take you down. Anytime. Anywhere.
[Dr. Nick Bradshaw is facepalming meanwhile Dr. Carole Bradshaw is snorting. And she’s not the only one.]
Captain Mitchell: You have sass, Major Seresin. I like that. Welcome to my team.
Major Seresin and Major Bradshaw have been arguing ever since their first meeting. As SG-1 and SG-2 work quite a lot of missions together, it’s not rare to hear them exchanging barbs when they’re at the base, in Major Seresin’s lab, in the mess, in the lockers, in the infirmary, …
Everyone around is suffering, and some even have flashbacks from when another blonde (now Major General) and another brunet (now Captain) were arguing…
[More below the cut.]
*
Major Seresin: I'm picking up a strange reading from right over there.
Major Bradshaw: Define strange.
Major Seresin: You don't know what strange means?
Major Bradshaw: I know what strange means, asshole-
Major Seresin: Weird, freakish, odd-
Major Bradshaw: I'm just trying to determine whether it's worth getting off the route back to the village.
Major Seresin: It's radioactive readings in an Amish world. Your call. Look, we're lost anyway. What difference does it make?
Major Bradshaw: I am not lost... All right, let's check it out.
(incorrect quotes based on Stargate Atlantis S01E08)
*
[Majors Bradshaw, Machado, and Seresin need to disable the security devices scattered all around the city in order to escape.]
Major Seresin: Javy, you take station two; I'll take station one. Bradshaw, you take stations three and four.
Major Bradshaw: Whoa, whoa, wait a sec, where are stations three and four?
Major Seresin, indicating on a map: Here and here.
Major Bradshaw: And we are...
[Seresin has chosen nearer stations for himself and Javy.]
Major Seresin: Here, yes. I need to get done quickly so I can start working on the sub-routines, and Javy was complaining about his knee the other day, so-
Major Bradshaw: Whoa, wait a second. Are these things even close to a transporter?
Major Seresin: Uh, yes, Javy's is.
Major Bradshaw, probing: And mine?
Major Seresin, cagily: It's a brisk walk away.
Major Bradshaw: And by brisk you mean far?
Major Seresin: By walk I mean run. It’s an opportunity for you to use those long legs of yours! Fly away, chicken! We’re on a schedule!
(Major Bradshaw sends a dark look to Seresin before running like a madman towards stations three and four.)
Major Seresin, whistling: Hate to see you go, love watching you leave.
Major Machado: …
Major Machado: You know you could just ask him out, instead of doing this weird pigtail-pulling dance. Also, now’s not the time, Jake!
Major Seresin: You’re no fun! You’re supposed to be my wingman, bro!
Major Machado: Yeah. No. You already have a “wing”man with the way you sweet-talk your “chicken”.
(incorrect quotes partly based on Stargate Atlantis S01E10)
