The April 20, 2023 hybrid solar eclipse will begin in the eastern Indian Ocean and move eastward across parts of Australia and the southern Pacific Ocean before ending in the western part of South America. The eclipse will be visible as a total eclipse along a narrow path that starts in western Australia and ends in Chile. Outside of this path, observers will see a partial solar eclipse. During the eclipse, the Moon will move between the Sun and the Earth, blocking the Sun's light and casting a shadow on the Earth's surface. Because the Moon's distance from Earth is not constant, it will appear slightly smaller than the Sun, causing the eclipse to be annular along certain parts of the eclipse's path and total along other parts. Overall, the April 20, 2023 hybrid solar eclipse will be a rare and exciting astronomical event that many people around the world will be looking forward to seeing. #SolarEclipse2023 #StarGazingIndia #Astronomy #EclipseWatching #SolarEclipse2023 #StarGazingIndia #Astronomy #EclipseWatching #SunMoonEarth #CelestialEvent #AstronomyIndia #EclipseViewingTips (at StarGazing India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpiPlTgtnVi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A night flight over the moonlit Earth in the International Space Station. Timelapse created from images courtesy of the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit, NASA Johnson Space Center (ISS065-E-209206-210497 https://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/). The glowing yellow-green band visible over Earth's curve is a phenomenon known as "airglow", created when atoms and molecules in the atmosphere excited by sunlight during the day emit light to shed their excess energy. #StarGazingIndia #AstroTalk #astronomy #StarGazinIndiaTraveller #nasa #hubbletelescope #Stargazing #astronomer #amazing #Space #telescope #deepsky #deepskyobject #deepskyphotography Courtesy & Source @NASA @Twitter @iss (at StarGazing India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSLbHTYo8ZN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Let's talk about how huge our universe is. 🤯 The Hubble Ultra Deep Field led to an estimate that the observable universe contained at least 200 billion galaxies. But research from 2016 suggests that number is at least 10 times too low: #DeepFieldWeek Source : @nasa @twitter @nasahubble #StarGazingIndia #AstroTalk #astronomy #StarGazinIndiaTraveller #nasa #hubbletelescope #Stargazing #astronomer #amazing #Space #telescope #deepsky #deepskyobject #deepskyphotography (at StarGazing India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSImbVjIJLe/?utm_medium=tumblr

Wish You a Great World Astronomy Day... Clear Skies Who are we? Where do we come from, and where are we going? How and why was the Universe born? These were some of the eternal questions associated with astronomy that piques human imagination from ancient times to the present day. Astronomy started with observing the night sky; ancient people observed objects in the sky and associated these with god, and devised something we call astrology today. However, people were not scientifically approaching astronomy. That innovation came from India, where scholars like Aryabhatt and Varahmihir pondered upon the cosmic secrets and the ancient Greeks, with Pythagoras giving ideas of mathematics and Aristotle giving the notion of logic, an essential toolkit prepared to develop astronomy. Then came the Copernican Revolution, with the idea of the Earth not being the center, believed earlier but merely another heavenly body was orbiting some other center. Various other astronomers, Tycho, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton, came up with laws and theories to understand the movements of the planet, celestial bodies, and forces acting in the Universe. Off to the 18-20th century, astronomy moves towards discoveries in stellar and galactic areas. Today, astronomy deals with collecting data about celestial objects by using ground and space telescopes observing the cosmos over the complete electromagnetic spectrum, with getting precise data about the formation of the Universe. In the future, one can anticipate that astronomy might deal with the fact that life is not just limited to Earth. It exists elsewhere in the Universe also. Meet the @europeanspaceagency next mission to Jupiter’s icy worlds: JUICE. Next year, the spacecraft will launch aboard the @arianegroup Ariane 5 rocket to begin a 7.6 year cruise to #Jupiter to spend three and a half years in the Jovian system.— this jaw dropping mission will explore, not only the Solar System’s first born, but also its icy moons Europa, Callisto and Ganymede. It’s main mission will be to explore the huge planet’s three largest icy moons in the hope of determining whether life is possible on these dwarf planets. What if extra-terrestrial life does exist? For centuries, this question – which both fascinates and frightens mankind – has remained unanswered. But by the year 2030, answers to the questions: how do planets form? how does life emerge? how does the solar system work? may well have been found. It’s time to know where we are alone in the Solar System or not. Let’s go JUICE! Video credit by @nasajpl engineer @apoapsys and images by the @arianegroup SM team. NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter: Attempting the First Powered Flight on Mars Part - 2 NASA’s helicopter operation: A risky challenge As mentioned above, the atmosphere on the Red planet is extremely thin - about 1% of the density compared to the Earth’s atmosphere. Due to this condition, it doesn't give the helicopter much air to bite into. The scientists had to work in making the chopper extremely light as the gravitational pull on the Red planet is less. So, the Ingenuity has a mass of just 1.8kg (4lb). In order to provide required lift to fly for Ingenuity, the two 1.2m long rotors spin in opposite directions at a speed of 2,500rpm, which is extremely fast. To balance the situation, scientists are keenly monitoring the winds in Jezero. These could measure up to 20m per second, faster than what was tested back on Earth. But the team at NASA believes the helicopter will cope with the challenges. Importance of this flight? To mark the connection with the Wright Brothers’ first aircraft flight, a piece of fabric from a wing of the brothers' plane was attached to Ingenuity before it departed Earth. The demonstration of this small technology is essential as it will eventually transform how we explore some distant worlds. Apart from Ingenuity, Nasa has approved a helicopter mission named Dragonfly to Titan, the big moon of Saturn which should arrive in the mid-2030s. #StarGazingIndia #StarGazinIndiaTraveller #astronomy #nasajpl #nasa #mars #MarsHelicopter #Space #Astrophysics #JPL #marshmallow #saturn #future (at StarGazing India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN26gYQBNMl/?igshid=93lf3pi3nmll

NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter: Attempting the First Powered Flight on Mars NASA’s Ingenuity robotic helicopter that has been sent to Mars will try to rise a few feet (about 3m) in the air, hover for roughly for 30 seconds, swivel and come back down. With that, it would become the first machine to fly through the wispy and thin air of the red planet, Mars. Although NASA has stated earlier that this operation is highly risky because the air on the Red planet is extremely thin - less than 1% of the pressure of Earth's atmosphere, if the flight by the deployed helicopter becomes successful, this trip will mark the first-ever powered, controlled flight on another planet. Along with this, it will help NASA reap invaluable data about the surface conditions on Mars. The US space agency has been comparing this flight to the Wright Brothers moment, a reference to the first powered and controlled aircraft flight in 1903 on Earth because this will mark the first time an airplane or a helicopter to take off on another planet. Tracing the Journey of Ingenuity In a mission to search for signs of ancient life near a dried-up river delta, Ingenuity, the Mars helicopter traveled from Earth in February beneath NASA’s Perseverance rover. NASA’s Perseverance Rover landed in a region called Jezero Crater, on the Red Planet. A couple of weeks ago, ahead of flight tests, Perseverance rover dropped Ingenuity on a flat Martian plain. Ingenuity is targeting no earlier than 07:30 GMT on Monday for lift-off. The first data should start arriving back at Earth some three hours later, revealing whether the experiment worked. This information has to be communicated through Nasa's Perseverance rover and a satellite at Mars that will direct it to Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Continuing in next Post... #StarGazingIndia #StarGazinIndiaTraveller #astronomy #nasajpl #nasa #mars #MarsHelicopter #Space #Astrophysics #JPL #marshmallow #saturn #future (at StarGazing India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN26SWjhGqa/?igshid=4b4t7u6d6t81
