What if each generation of Pokémon had a fourth, Normal Type starter?
The hard part was fitting each starter into the others’ themes, especially for Generations 1-3. The Normal Types don’t have any strong theme besides “wild animal versions of things that can kind of be pets”, but since Skeledirge’s not a snake, Primarina’s not a weapon, and Venusaur’s just a regular bullfrog, I think I’ll be fine.
Protori, the Hatchling Pokémon
The Generation One starters are all pets/things you’d bring home from the forest against your parents’ wishes. Bulbasaur’s a frog, Charmander’s a lizard, Squirtle’s a turtle…therefore, Protori’s a bird.
Grynndon, the Playful Pokémon
The Gen 2 starters are all ancient. Alligators and echidnas are all incredibly old, and Chikorita’s a straight-up dinosaur. And that’s ignoring the fact Croconaw’s based on a caveman and Typhlosion a volcano. You can imagine where I’m going with this.
Tarsii, the Lookout Pokémon
If you’ve watched HoopsandHiphop’s video, you’d know the Gen 3 cast are all relatively rare pets. I was gonna do a monkey instead, but I couldn’t come up with any good ideas.
Coyoki, the Coy Pokémon
Here’s where the themes get more cohesive. The Gen 4 crew are all myths. The World Turtle, Son Wukong, Napoleon’s hopes and dreams Poseidon, and now, the trickster coyote. I was thinking a rabbit, but y’know. Buneary.
Elephone, the Calf Pokémon
Gen 5. America. Melting pot. Different cultures. Snivy’s French, Tepig’s Chinese, Oshawott’s Japanese, so Elephone’s Indian with a snake charmer theme. My first idea was an actual snake for the theme, but then I remembered Snivy herself’s a snake.
Foldock, the Lamb Pokémon
This one makes more after evolution. This one’s the white mage to Gen 6’s fighter, black mage, and thief. As you can infer by the shapes of the curls on the head and chest, he’s supposed to be a doctor.
Kokonu, the Smooth Shell Pokémon
This is another one that makes sense after evolution. Aside from being the thief to Gen 7’s black mage, fighter, and white mage respectively, they also round out their circus theming; he’s the “human” cannonball.
Goslit, the Fowl Pokémon
Gen 8 is British entertainment. As the name, ink pot body, and quill tail insinuate, he’s themed around writing and poetry.
Teaturro, the Foal Pokémon
Lot of starters in show biz these days. Teaturro’s a theater kid in its rawest form, down to the name being a play on “teatro” and “burro”.

So I just watched the trailer from two/three hours ago here are some comments
Interesting that this trailer only focuses on The Indigo Disk
I knew all the starters were leaked to be returning and I mostly hate that fact (why did you think we need even more ugly fire-types surely the Fuecoco line is enough did you really have to bring back the Chimchar line too?) but at the same time Primarina!!! Also Incineroar but I didn’t see it in the trailer (I was in a Cinderace and Meowscarada celebrate Meowscarada’s inclusion in Unite mood until I saw this trailer. I partly blame that on Chimchar being ugly but at the same time I also blame it on new info for Raging Bolt and Iron Crown)
Speaking of starters, as much as I love them you really didn’t need to put so much focus on Cyndaquil, Oshawott, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Rowlet, Grookey, Scorbunny or (I don’t remember seeing it in the trailer but I’m listing it anyway) Sobble because they’re in the base game you just need HOME or an event+breeding to obtain them (that’s how I got Kitsune the Fennekin)
Probably not surprising but the Proto Beasts share the Dragon type and the Neo Swords share the Psychic type (I prefer Psychic to Dragon so this is a win for Violet as ever) and it seems we’ve got signature moves for Raging Bolt and Iron Crown but I can’t remember their names. All I remember is that Idk how to pronounce Iron Crown’s signature move (specifically the word beginning with t). But being guaranteed to strike twice let’s go!!! Also I think they use their primary types for their signature moves which is interesting. It’s now really gonna annoy me if Iron Leaves doesn’t get a Grass-type signature move. Edit: their names are Thunderclap and Tachyon Cutter. Thunderclap is a priority move
Also in this section I think there was way too much focus on Raging Bolt and nowhere near enough focus on Iron Crown
I was honestly convinced you were gonna give us a shot of Terapagos in the end but apparently we don’t get to see every-Tera-type-Crown Terapagos. Actually before that I thought we’d get more exclusive Tera Mask forms but again apparently not (though I do appreciate the shot of Fire Tera type Ninetales) Edit: it’s not exclusive to Terapagos

Trying to narrow down who our possible starters for Z-A could be; if we take out starters with Megas, regional forms, recently used (Gen 9 and Gen 4), and of course the Gen 6 starters if this is gonna be like Arceus, then that leaves us with:
Chikorita Line and Totodile Line
Snivy Line and Tepig Line
Litten Line and Popplio Line
Grookey Line, Scorbunny Line, and Sobble Line
Of course, GF could use the Gen 4 and 9 starters if they wanted - there’s no law against it. But I feel like they’d want to draw attention to starters that haven’t been in the spotlight recently.
Looking through this list, Snivy is the best bet for the Grass starter considering Serperior’s draws a lot of inspiration from France.
If Snivy is chosen for the Grass starter, that would leave us with Litten and Scorbunny for the Fire starter. I’m honestly fine with either of them, especially if we get a regional form, mega, or both for them and the other two starters.
If I had to choose, maybe Scorbunny since Rowlet was chosen for Arceus? Also soccer is apparently popular in France, so why not?
For the Water starter, I know the popular option is Piplup because Empoleon is based on Napoleon. But again, I feel like Gen 4 having represented so soon is a bit much.
If Scorbunny is in, then Sobble would be out, although Inteleon could work as a “private detective in the harsh city” kinda vibe.
Totodile would be a fun choice, but i don’t think France has alligators. Not that that actually matters, I mean France doesn’t naturally have lions either.
Popplio might be a good choice, maybe give Primarina a more “Cirque du Soleil” vibe to it if it has a regional form? Sure Cirque du Soleil is Canadian, but it’s French-Canadian so I think it would count 😂
So, in conclusion, this is my Z-A starter Pokémon prediction:
This is definitely a weird, but pretty fun line up.
It kinda reminds me when the starters for Arceus was revealed - a kind of “wait, why those three?!” at first, followed by a collective “ooohhhh I think see why”
Again, this is just my personal prediction, I’m curious to know yours!
