Y/N takes a few deep breaths as she waits for her turn in the backstage area. She’s going through her lines in her head, making sure she won’t forget anything once she steps on the small stage, even though this isn’t the opening night.
She has been part of a youth theatre group for over two years now, and this is the first time she has gotten the lead role. Her nerves are high, but so is her excitement. This is a big moment for her, she is proud of herself, and she really hopes her moms will be proud of her too.
As her costar finishes their line, Y/N rolls her shoulders back, straightens her posture, and walks out to the stage. She starts speaking her lines to the audience, not yet acknowledging the other actor on the stage, this is her character’s inner monologue.
Her eyes scan over the crowd of people as discreetly as possible. There isn’t one empty chair in the room. This play became fairly popular after getting a spot in the local newspaper. She showed the page to her moms, practically glowing with pride. Her face isn’t showing any changes, but her mind is turning blue. Her mothers aren’t here. It is the last show, and her mothers aren’t here.
Still, she continues on. And she does wonderfully. All the teens come up to the stage at the end and take a bow as they listen to the applause with wide smiles. Someone’s parent brought everyone flowers, and it makes Y/N bitter, but she smiles and thanks them, her grip tight on the bouquet.
After changing out of her costume and packing her things, Y/N walks back home. It’s only a fifteen minute walk, so she is unlocking the front door by no time.
“I’m home!” She yells out, shutting the door and throwing her keys on the table in the hallway. “Anybody here?” Kicking off her shoes, she walks deeper into the house, only to find it empty.
Y/N sighs and walks into her room. She should’ve expected this. Both of her moms have demanding jobs, they won’t be able to attend to all of her achievements..or any of them.
This is just how it is.
Y/N’s hand shakes as she holds onto a piece of paper. It’s already crumbled by her grip, but she makes sure the text in it is still readable. Her body continues moving slightly, either from nerves or the uncomfortable feeling of the hard plastic chair she is sitting on.
She lets out a quiet sigh. Her turn is coming up. Soon, she will have to get up in front of all her peers and their parents, and give a speech that she wrote. Of course, Y/N accepted this responsibility when her teacher came up to her and said they believe her to be the best person for the job. And who is Y/N to say no to that? An adult figure comes to her and gives her a compliment, basically telling her they’re proud of her. She craves that. She needs it.
A round of applause brings her back to the moment. The teacher in front of the microphone is looking at her with a smile on their face, they’re signaling it’s her turn next.
Taking a deep breath, she straightens her posture and listens to the teacher’s introduction of her. After it, she stands up and walks in front of the microphone, thanking them for this opportunity.
Her eyes glance over everyone in the room. She doesn’t see her moms, but Y/N doesn’t panic. They have to be in the back, maybe they got in late, she reminded them of this event too many times for them to not show up.
She unwraps her paper and places it on the stand. “Good morning, students and parents. I’m thankful to be up here today, especially when knowing my school days are minimal.” She smiles. “The last months of school are scary, I’m sure many of my peers agree, there’s so much uncertainty in change. What am I supposed to do after? Where do I go? Who am I?”
Y/N takes a deep breath, “I don’t know what I want to do with my future. The fear of not being or doing something great debilitates me, because wouldn’t it be a waste of a life if I never did something memorable.” Her eyes stay on the audience, only occasionally glancing down at her paper. She has memorized this speech. “My moms change lives everyday, one of them is a firefighter and the other is an OB-GYN, she literally brings new life into this world.” She giggles quietly, though her worries are growing by the minute. Her moms are nowhere to be seen.
“You’d think that with parents like that, my need to change the world would be bigger. But they’re actually the reason why they shrink every day. They tell me that life isn’t about doing something big and great that future generations will remember you for. It’s about love, friends, family, the goodness of your heart, it’s about making yourself proud.” Y/N turns the page around. “My mother Maya tells me to imagine being with little me and telling her about my life. Would she be happy? Would her eyes shine in wonder because she knows I haven’t forgotten her?”
Swallowing, her eyes cast down. She’s gripping the sides of the paper tighter now. Her moms aren’t here. “I would like to say yes. Because even though I haven’t always done the right thing, she would still hug me and tell me it’s okay, because I’m still me, no matter what. You know why?” She looks at the audience with a lopsided smile, “because even though I can’t always recognize my reflection in the mirror, my laugh is still the same horrible cackle I had as a kid.” There are some laughs in the audience, especially from her friends, who have heard her laugh before.
“So, change is scary and you’ll probably never figure out who you truly are. But that’s okay, the little kid you imagine sitting next to you knows, and they think you’re pretty great.” Y/N folds her paper and gives the audience a bright smile. “Thank you again for giving me this opportunity, I hope you all have a great day, and remember to stay true to yourself.” The audience starts clapping and Y/N walks back to her seat.
“That was awesome!” One of her friends whispers, holding her arm with so much excitement.
“My moms aren’t here.” Is the only thing Y/N whispers back.
“Oh shit,” her friend frowns, “I’m sorry.”
She shrugs and gives her a small smile. “It doesn’t matter.” With that, she turns back to the teacher who has gone back to the microphone.
It’s already two in the night and Y/N is still up. She is sitting on the couch, watching the television while she waits for her moms to come back home from work. They wouldn’t like her being awake this late, but she doesn’t care. She is angry, and sad, and she needs to yell to someone, preferably her moms.
The front door opens quietly after twenty minutes, it’s her moms trying to come in without waking up sleeping Y/N. Their steps sound slow and sluggish, but they’re still giggling together. Somehow it angers Y/N even more.
“What are you still doing up?” Maya is the first one to come to the living room, though Carina is right behind her. “Is everything okay?” She drops her bag down to the floor before sitting on the other couch.
“Where were you?”
Carina looks confused, “we were at work, mia cara.”
Y/N scoffs, “my school event was today.” She states, glaring at her mothers. “You know, the one where I held a speech that I wrote. I reminded you about it like a million times!”
“Oh, honey,” Maya sighs, “we told you we’d try to get out of work for it, but you know how our jobs are.” She looks genuinely remorseful, but none of that matters to Y/N at this moment.
“It doesn’t look like you tried hard enough. I first told you about it months ago! They couldn’t give you one day off with that much notice?”
“Do you think we wanted to miss it?”
“Well it sure looks like you didn’t care about it, or me for that matter.”
“Y/N-“
Carina tries to speak up, but Y/N doesn’t let her speak, “no! I do think you wanted to miss this, I think you’ve wanted to miss every single event I’m in. You know why?” Her brows are raised as she stands up. “I don’t remember what the last important event of mine was where you actually showed up. You’ve missed all of my plays, my school events, sports games, everything. You’re never there! Nor are you ever here. You guys never have time to talk to me, or, or help me with my homework.” Her speech is starting to get faster and tears are starting to gather in her eyes. “I doubt you even know what’s going on with my life anymore!”
Maya and Carina try to defend themselves, but nothing comes out of their mouths. Y/N is right. Even they can’t remember the last time they spent proper quality time with their daughter.
“So what’s your excuse, huh? You don’t care about me anymore? You don’t want me anymore?” She shrugs, sniffling quietly. “I’d rather know than wonder why my moms don’t make time for me anymore.”
The hurt and vulnerability in her voice breaks Maya and Carina’s heart. Their daughter should never have to doubt their love for her. “I’m so sorry, love.” Maya stands up, taking a few steps forward. “We’re both so sorry. We just- I guess we didn’t realize how much time we were spending at work.”
Carina stands up and pulls Y/N into an embrace, which she resist at first, but gives up and leans in right after. “I’m sorry, mia cara, I’m sorry. You’re my baby and I love you more than anything else in the world.” Carina whispers, tears falling down her cheeks. “You’re right, we haven’t been very good moms lately, but I promise you that will change, okay? We will do better.” She pulls away, setting her palms on both of Y/N’s cheeks to look at her face. She can’t stand seeing it with such a painful expression, especially one that she caused.
“You’re just saying that.” Y/N’s voice is more quiet now, her anger having turned to sadness.
“We’re not.” Maya states with a firm tone, setting her hand on Y/N’s shoulder. “We will start taking days off work, you’re more important. Do you think you could hold your speech for us now?”
Y/N shakes her head, looking down. “I don’t think I want to, not today at least.”
“Okay,” Maya frowns but she understands, “some other day then.”
“Yeah,” biting the inside of her cheek, Y/N wipes the wetness off of her cheeks, “do you think I could sleep in your bed this night?”
“Yes, yes, of course.” Carina wraps one of her arms around Y/N as the three of them start walking towards the master bedroom.
They change into their pajamas and do the rest of their evening routine in silence. Y/N is the first one to climb onto the bed, already getting under the covers while her mothers whisper in the bathroom. She’s already half asleep when they turn off the lights and limb onto the bed, sandwiching her.
Carina starts playing with Y/N’s hair while Maya wraps her arms around her. “We love you so so much, you know that, right?” Her voice is quiet, not wanting to disturb her.
“Usually,” Y/N’s eyes are already closed, “but sometimes I doubt it. I really love you guys too.” She whispers.
Maya tightens her hold at the words. They pain her, but she doesn’t have anyone else to blame but herself. “We’ll make sure to remind you everyday.” The two women kiss Y/N’s forehead, saying their goodnights when they notice their daughter’s tiredness.
In their heads, they both vow to make Y/N feel more loved and cared for than she ever has.

hi could you possibly do a maya and carina x reader where reader is maybe drunk and stubborn and it is them taking care of her and just complete fluff 🫶

ᕚ---ᕘ
You staggered around the room, completely losing your balance. You got drunk into oblivion on your best friend's birthday and your two girlfriends had to pick you up from the restaurant. As soon as Maya and Carina arrived, they quickly rushed to a private room at the other end of the building to come to your aid. "Bella, are you okay?" The brunette asked worriedly as they saw you leaning against a wall, your cheeks burning red and your eyes bloodshot and glassy.
Maya had immediately jumped to your side, hooking your arm over her shoulder so that she could catch your body and hold it upright before you stumbled and fell unhappily. "Sure thing, pretty. I'm awesome! I swear I can walk straight!" You muttered in an unintelligible slur and started to giggle, but all you got was serious faces, eyes looking at each other in incomprehension.
Using their combined efforts, they tried to gently lower your heavily intoxicated body onto one of the wooden chairs. “Y/n, darling, how much did you drink?” she requested, reaching out physically to lift your head and catch your gaze. You, however, looked back at your fingers, tried to count the shots on them, but failed miserably as they blurred and wavered in front of your eyes. "Um, I think a few more than I should? But hey, you suddenly have four eyes that I can look into, and all of them are beautiful!"
The blonde's hand fell to her forehead, trying to smooth out the wrinkles that had formed on it as she bit her lip. She looked up at Carina, who couldn't resist a gentle chuckle. Maya scuffled her hair and asked herself what you had gotten yourself into. Normally you were never the drinker. “Let’s get you home,” she sighed out loudly and rose from her kneeling position in front of you.
Both Carina and Maya helped you get up and carefully brought you into the car to take you home. During the journey it became quiet around the two of them. While Carina tried to keep the car straight and not swerve too much, it was Maya who turned around every minute to check on you. However, you were caught up in your own daydream, humming shrilly to the tune on the radio as you traced the tears of rain on the window. "Why didn't you call us and let us know? We could have picked you up beforehand. Then maybe you wouldn't have drank so much."
You looked at her with wide eyes, your pupils greatly dilated from drinking alcohol. You tried to remain serious, tried to think of a clever answer for your friend but failed and started laughing instead. "But then I would have denied you this wonderful trip!" This time, Maya and Carina couldn't help but laugh at your rambling, although they remained worried about your condition.
Both women were happy when they unlocked the door to their shared apartment and you were finally back in your own four walls. Up the stairs to the second floor with you in their luggage, the two of them were completely exhausted. While the blonde struggled to get you onto the couch, the brunette grabbed coffee and a blanket to help you get over the alcohol rush and keep you warm.
When she came back with the things, she also got salty crackers to balance your blood sugar levels and avoid side effects. Maya gratefully took the warm drink, handed it to you and supported the glass with one of her hands to avoid any accidents. "Here, drink some of this. It will help."
You nodded perfusively, pulled the glass closer to your face and sniffed it. You immediately wrinkled your nose, grimaced and pulled your head to the side to stop the smell from lingering in your nasal cavities. "That smells like burnt hope and Monday morning! Speaking of which, what kind of day is today?"
"Saturday morning," Carina laughed once more and moved back towards the kitchen while Maya stayed behind with you for a moment. When the Italian woman came with another glass, this time she put it to your lips and let you take a few sips. "This is water, maybe it will help you a little better."
"This tastes like the opposite and not as good as what I had before. Ugh!"
Maya shook her head miserably and began to take off the jacket she was still wearing, all the while standing next to you and making sure you didn't suddenly tip over to the side or fall forward onto the floor. "Maybe we should go easy on your taste buds? I think they've already experienced enough today."
You nodded in agreement, knowing she might be right. There was a short silence in which the two of them joined you on the couch. Carina took your legs on her lap and pulled them close to her middle, hoping that you would slowly relax and become calmer. But suddenly you started singing loudly, the words barely understandable, startling the two women who were tired and just waiting for you to fall asleep.
Shocked at the sudden noise and shrill tones that left your throat, they both looked at each other with wide eyes. The brunette held a hand over her mouth and looked away for a moment before she burst out laughing and couldn't stop herself. With this she also drew Maya under the pure spell of laughter. "Babe, is this your take on karaoke?" The blonde asked, holding her now aching stomach, but you didn't listen to her, got even louder and held your hand to your heart. You swayed on the couch, Carina holding your hand as you tried to sit straight on your shins and sang a tune that resembled the national anthem. "Bambina, I think you could make a new hit out of it if you sang the words a little more clearly!"
You laughed yourself at the incomprehensibility and the mood of the two women became increasingly relaxed. There was barely a shred of concern in their hearts, more happiness that you were doing well and that despite the poison in your blood, you generally made a good impression. "You know, you're probably the most entertaining drunk I know. And I've seen my entire fire team drunk."
Grinning widely, you bowed your upper body to her and punched your chest a few times before kissing the palm of your hand and holding it up in the air. "I take that as a compliment, my wonderful and beautiful Maya Bishop!"
The three of you sat together for a while until you noticed that you were getting more tired and slowly falling asleep. The blonde carefully covered you more tightly with the blanket and spoke to you gently to show you that you were cared for and safe. After the two were sure you had fallen into a deep sleep, they stayed close to you to continue to provide attention and support until you were stable again. Meanwhile, Maya and Carina kept exchanging amused looks.
"Hopefully she learns from this," Maya whispers in a gentle tone and squeezes herself next to Carina, wrapping her in a deep hug. The brunette leaned back, letting herself fall and trying to let the tiredness take its place. "Yes hopefully."
They stayed vigilant through the night to make sure you slept peacefully and didn't fall into a nightmare before deciding to seek some peace near you as well. They clearly deserved it.

Feel free to ignore but if you feel like would you consider writing being in a relationship with Maya and Carina. Reader is a detective / cop , just the whole dynamic would be interesting I think.
Dating Maya Bishop & Carina DeLuca Would Include . . .
Tumblr media
(I made Reader an FBI Agent partly b/c I love Criminal Minds, hope that’s alright)
You guys are such a power couple. Carina as an OB/GYN Attending, Maya has a Lieutenant of Station 19 (she should be Captain tho), and you as an FBI Agent
Unfortunately with your important jobs, it’s hard to see a lot of each other
It’s definitely made your relationship a little more difficult, but you all love each other so much, and you put in the work
Carina and Maya are always worried about you when you’re on your FBI missions and often won’t be able to rest unless they get a text from you
When you come home from your missions, Maya and Carina are always there for you no matter what
They’ll always insist on Carina checking you out for any injuries, no matter how small
They also let you vent and talk about the case, often encouraging you to let it out
And even if you don’t get any injuries, Maya and Carina insist on you taking at least a day to rest
I think Maya would definitely cuddle with you like a koala would, arms and legs wrapped around you
Meanwhile Carina would have you laying against her chest, her arms wrapped around you and your legs tangled together
When it’s the three of you, you take turns being in the middle
After missions, you are. After hard shifts at the station, it’s Maya. And after had shifts at the hospital, it’s Carina
Maya and Carina will listen to you ramble about psychology and such for hours. They adore how into it you get
You also can’t help but profile them — oops
And they think you are so hot when you’re training/fighting
Maya will hold you while Carina tends to any injuries, cooing about how great you’re doing
You often take baths when coming home from missions and Maya and Carina insist on at least one of them checking in on you after you fell asleep in there multiple times (but they also think it’s very cute)
Maya and Carina are always texting your coworkers to see if you’ve been overworking yourselves
You all have little ways of getting each other to relax
More often than not, you’re hunched over case files. Carina will start massaging your neck, shoulders, or back while Maya will cup your cheek or your head and close your laptop
They’re most effective when they tag team, though
Maya and Carina are really in sync, so they’re often tag teaming you anyway
They absolutely adore how you turn to putty and melt. It’s the cutest thing ever!
If you ever have nightmares about cases, Maya and Carina will both hold you and assure you that you’re safe and that they’ll protect you no matter what (you and Carina do the same when Maya has nightmares)
You and Maya also try to learn Italian together and Carina adores it (she also teases you)
If anything more serious ever happens to you, Maya and Carina are always the first ones there
With how busy your schedules are, you make a promise to each other to always take time off to spend and devote to each other
You and Andrew would also be good friends because he’d think it’s so cool that you’re an FBI agent
You three also love to watch each other work because all of you are so amazing in what you do
Whenever Maya gets jealous that Carina’s around women all day, you’re there to distract her with hugs and kisses
There are definitely some conflicts and arguments, but your love for each other conquers all

Mistletoe (1/1)
Fandom: Station 19
Characters: Carina DeLuca, Maya Bishop
Summary: When Carina attends a hospital fundraiser, she has no intention of spending the evening alone. After all, it's Christmas Eve Eve and all she wants is to be kissed under the mistletoe. When a pretty blonde woman with piercing blue eyes captures her attention, it is the start of a magical evening for both of them.
* * * * * * * * * *
Carina takes a sip of champagne as she steps away from the bar, squeezing through a small crowd of people to find some space by a large fireplace. The fire, protected by a thick grate, rages and the heat wraps around Carina like a cloak – a stark contrast to the icy cold weather outside. The main hall of the Archfield Hotel is filled with chatter and music, a melody of festive songs to match the elaborate décor. A grand Christmas tree sits one corner, decorated with soft white lights, multi-coloured baubles and garlands of beads, the gold star on top only inches away from the ceiling. Twinkling white lights have been wrapped around the wooden beams overhead, an array of gold, rose gold and bronze baubles hanging from them, interspersed with a few sprigs of mistletoe.
On the opposite side of the room to where Carina stands is a tall Nutcracker soldier, dressed smartly in a blue and grey suit, a tall crown on its head and a staff in one hand. A few people are taking selfies with it and Carina’s instinct is to roll her eyes, but she finds their playfulness endearing. Lanterns sit on almost every surface, bringing light to the dark-panelled room.
Carina feels the Christmas spirit igniting in her as she drinks from her champagne flute. It has the desired effect as it immediately helps her relax, her shoulders dropping from where they have been hunched by her ears. It has been a long week at work as she has juggled multiple deliveries at a time, all those families who wanted a Christmas baby seeing their dreams coming true. She is happy for them, the joy she gets at placing a newborn baby in their parents’ arms never growing old; but the longs days have taken their toll and she had been tempted to stay at home tonight – her pyjamas and a blanketed couch appealing. But she knows she would have ended up in Doctor Bailey’s bad books if she hadn’t shown up and that is not a place she wants to be at any time of year.

Congratulation....Captain?
♡Chapter 1♡
Congratulations Herrera… you will be captain of Station 19! ……
2 weeks later
………-Engine Company 19, Ladder Company 19, Aid Car 19 und Emergency Medical Services Response Unit 19 in E Madison St.-
"GO! GO! GO! 19! We are now dealing with a 5th grade emergency call! Bishop and Sullivan Aid Car! Montgomery and Hughes you're driving E19! Warren and Ruiz EMS19! Probie you're coming with me! Move!" Andy yelled and everyone was ready.
You nod resolutely and when you arrive at the address you can see the immense smoke despite the darkness.
"Oh shit….", Andy looks shocked as a picture of devastation becomes clear.
"Damn….that's a crane that's tipped over!" Vic gets out and looks around.
"Captain, there's fire everywhere, we have to contain it!" said Travis, looking tense.
"Can't you see the debris everywhere? And there are still injured people everywhere. Station 88 is also on the scene…we definitely need more support here!" Sullivan right in the mood looking at Andy, who realises the burden of this distress call, trying to orientate herself.
"Ok guys! Bishop and Sullivan check on all the survivors and get them to safety!" Andy yells.
"Captain I can help with the injured!" Warren looks at her seriously and Andy nods after a few seconds of consideration. She organises the remaining people and always passes on the situation report to the battalion chief.
"Captain!" With a leap you knock Andy over and the next thing you hear is a massive noise, close beside you as a large section of the crane has melted due to the heat and almost toppled onto Andy. Completely distraught, Andy looks at you, realising that she could have died here and now, you both stand up and Andy's breathing quickens. A loud beeping prevents her from hearing you.
"Captain! hey captain come to you!" you shout at her and grab her by the shoulders "breathe!"
Her first call as captain and then such a big one. Andy looks you in the eye.
"That's good, just breathe," you try to reassure her.
"Hey Andy, is everything ok?" Sullivan comes in to check if everything is ok. She just looks at him briefly and focusses on you again, then nods and takes her walkie talkie. "All units, we need reinforcements here, now!" Back in reality, she gives all the information to chief Ross and then looks at you.
"Contain the fire with the others, but keep your distance!" You nod at Andy's words and set off straight away, but you can clearly feel Andy's gaze on your neck as you leave.
The mission lasted a whole 40 hours and on the way back to the station everyone was simply exhausted. Andy leant back, lost in thoughts, looking out of the window.
"hey….good job Captain," Maya tries to cheer her up, the mood is too depressed after everything that has happened, but Andy simply ignores her. Images of the mission flash before her face in an endless loop and she can't relax which is also not unnoticed by you.
Back at the station, everyone literally falls into bed, only Andy is still in the captain's office finalising the report. She pauses for a moment as everything comes back to her. As captain, she is responsible for everyone. Tears well up in her eyes and she catches her breath, completely exhausted, when Sullivan suddenly comes in at the same time.
"tough first mission captain", he comes to her and sits down at her table.
"tch…" she closes her eyes and smiles. "How did you get through your first day as captain?" She looks at him for help.
"I just pulled it off, Andy, you've worked long and hard for this position. You're a born leader," he takes her hand, causing her to look at it thoughtfully.
"I was almost flattened by a crane today," she pulls his hand away from Sullivan. "Y/N saved me…. a new recruit," she huffs, almost embarrassed.
You were just about to open the door, but you hear her last words and pause with your hand on the door handle.
"The situation was also confusing, it's the first time I've ever seen a case like this involving a crane. Everyone was overwhelmed. You did your best and for the new recruit, it was an immediate experience.", Sullivan stands up and smiles.
You knock and slowly open the door. "Please allow me to come in Captain!" Andy looks at you and lets her eyes wander demandingly to Robert, who understood and left the office.
"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" Andy looks at you questioningly.
"I wanted to ask if you're okay, Captain…" you look at her carefully, her look completely tired. She stands up and leans against her table with her hands in her pockets, her eyes on you. "yeah....Thanks for asking, but I should ask you that. For your first shift here, it's probably difficult to process at first.
"Well, I've already experienced a lot, but the fact that I have to save the captain on my first day here is really crazy," you smile, but the words hit Andy harder than expected. She closes her eyes and takes a sharp breath.
"good job, probie…but you should go sleep now", she smiled unexpected softly.
A tinge of red spreads across your cheeks, which she doesn't know came from her smile, not her praise. "ok…
good night, captain", you turn back to your bunk and lay down, looking at the ceiling of the room smiling.
A new morning after the team finally got some more sleep, you are the first one awake and already making breakfast at the Beanery. Travis was the first to arrive. "hey well…your effort yesterday wasn't bad, well done probie" a peaceful smile from him, he helps you making breakfast when Andy joins you.
“Good morning,” came Andy quietly and formally. Travis looks between the two of you and was about to say something when Vic joins him. "heeeey, good morning!", she dances as she takes coffee and then suddenly looks back and forth between Andy and you. A simple silence between both of you and Vic then looks at Travis, almost looking for help, who just shrugs his shoulders and also sips coffee.
You remain silent and put the last things for breakfast on the table, sit down and drink coffee.
“thanks, looks good,” Vic grabs something and stuffs it straight into her mouth while Andy sits down right across from you. You concentrate on your coffee and have to swallow hard, but you are immediately pulled out of your thoughts when the rest of the group joins you. Andy looks briefly into your eyes, but her gaze is completely electric, she just suddenly gets up and leaves the Beanery with her coffee and goes to her office.
"Um…ok?", Vic watches her go, followed by the others except you.
“Surely the call is still in her bones,” said Sullivan and then looks at you quietly, which you don’t notice.
Andy stands with her back against her door, closes it and looks into the room, completely lost in thoughts, with a questioning look. "I swear…." She jumps at the sudden knock on her door, turns around and opens it….
who is the person behind the door? Next chapter will show it, also containing more fluffy moments between Reader and Andy

Settling in | Station 19 fanfiction
Summary: A look into Maya and Carina transitioning into parenthood, a week after Liam is placed under their care.
A/N: Wow, the season premiere was amazing! Needless to say I was an emotional wreck when Maya and Carina decided to adopt Liam. I know we still want pregnant Carina, but I am happy about them being moms in any capacity. Kudos and comments are appreciated! Enjoy!
-
Maya stirs when she hears soft whimpering on her right side. Carina doesn’t stir, so Maya plants a soft kiss to Carina’s shoulder before slipping out from under the covers.
She walks the short distance to Liam’s crib, glancing at her son. His face is scrunched up in discomfort, and this unpleasant smell that fills her nostrils quickly explains why. “Alright probie, let’s get you changed, yeah?” She murmurs, lifting him up and bringing him over to the changing table.
He doesn’t fight her as she takes off his soiled diaper and cleans off his bottom. She straps on a new diaper, and buttons his fire truck onesie, a gift from his fire family.
The whole station is thrilled for Maya and Carina, and she’ll never forget when her and Carina brought their son to the station. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Vic was the one to buy the fire truck onesie, gifting it to them as she embraced them joyfully.
Liam curls into his mother’s shoulder as Maya holds him. She places a gentle kiss to his forehead, smiling when he sighs contently.
Maya never thought her heart could feel so full. But this baby boy has stolen her heart. When she sees Carina holding him and talking to him in Italian, it practically knocks the air out of her lungs, and nearly makes her heart stop.
“You are just the cutest little boy, Liam Andrea.” Maya whispers, covering his cheeks in kisses, relishing in his giggles.
Carina stirred at the sound of her baby’s laughter. Her heart melts when she sees Maya peppering Liam’s cheeks with kisses.
“Did the bambino wake you up?”
Maya turns to see her wife blinking at her sleepily. “Yeah, he needed a quick diaper change, and now he’s a happy boy again.” Maya explains. “I could hold him forever.” She continues.
Carina nods. Maya sits down on the bed, still holding Liam to her chest. “Say hi to mama.”She says, turning Liam to look at Carina. Carina smiles. “Hi bambino.”
Maya soothingly rubs his back and hums to him quietly until he falls asleep. She places him back in his crib, tucking the blankets around him and kissing his forehead. “Good boy.” She praises quietly.
“You’re so good with him.” Carina compliments, and Maya smiles bashfully. “Thank you, baby.” She murmurs, kissing Carina gently. “Let’s go to sleep.”
Carina nods, curling into Maya’s arms.
-
Maya wakes up around 6 a.m. due to her internal clock. She stretches, pressing a kiss to Carina’s neck. Carina stirs, turning over so she’s facing Maya. “Good morning, bambina.” She mumbles, her voice thick with sleep. “Good morning, my love.” Maya smiles, pressing a kiss to her lips.
A loud cry from beside them causes both of them to jump out of bed. Liam’s face is red with tears, as he squirms around. “Oh baby boy, it’s ok. Mama will prepare you a bottle. Shh…” Maya rocks him back and forth, soothing him while Carina goes to the kitchen.
A minute later, Carina comes back with a pre-prepared bottle, all warmed up. He latches onto the nipple, which soothes him immediately, quieting his cries. “There we go, that’s it, tesoro.” Carina praises with a wide smile.
Maya brings him to the changing table, changing him while Carina holds his bottle steady.
“There’s my little probie.” Maya whispers, kissing his nose. He gurgles at her, causing some spit to drip onto his face. Carina giggles, wiping his face off.
Maya settles onto the couch, cradling Liam in her arms. He rests his head on her shoulder.
“I never thought I would get here.”
Maya’s murmurs makes Carina furrow her brow.
“I just…I nearly died last year. I nearly lost you. I messed up so much and…I never thought I would make it out.” Maya confesses, her eyes filling with tears. Carina’s eyes fill with tears too. “I know, bella. I was worried too. But we’re here. We’re here, we’re ok, and our baby boy is ok. That’s what matters.” Carina reassures her.
Maya nods, pulling Carina in for a kiss. It only lasts a second before they are interrupted by a squawk from their baby.
They pull apart, looking at Liam expectantly. Carina pulls Maya in for another kiss. This time around, Liam reaches his tiny hands out, pushing their faces apart. “What’s the matter Bambino? Can Mommy and I not kiss?” Liam let’s out a little huff at Carina’s question.
Maya Smirks, suddenly smothering Liam in kisses on his cheeks and neck. He giggles loudly, squirming in his mother’s hold.
Carina looks at them lovingly, her heart feeling more full than ever.

when Maya found out
when Maya Bishop found out that the girl of her dreams, her favorite person, her amor, was on the autism spectrum she wasn’t really surprised, Carina exhibited many commonly autistic traits, sensory issues (particularly with things being too soft) her inability to express and understand her emotions, and the constant need for reassurance along with the misunderstanding of social norms and ques. But Maya knew that this was not something that defined her wife, it was just simply another amazing part of her, and if other people didn’t see that, then they were missing out,
Today was a particularly rough day for Carina, she had lost another patient, making that three in her entire career as an OB/GYN, and she couldn’t get off the floor of the OR, so Meredith, whom has know about carinas ASD since she was diagnosed, took it apon herself to call in the brunettes wife to come get her.
when Maya arrived at grey Sloan, she was met by Amelia and Meredith who guided her to the OR where Carina was sitting on the floor, with her knees to her chest, tears streaming down her face, clothes and hands covered in blood, unable to move or speak. Shit, Maya thought, this is almost as bad as when Andrew passed, how am I gonna get her home?, “Carina, amor are you okay?”… nothing just silence “okay love here’s what we’re gonna do okay?”… more silence “we’re gonna get up and go to your office for a minute, then we’re gonna get you some fresh clothes, okay? Then we’re gonna get a shower, and then walk to the car, then drive home, have a glass of water and your meds, and finally we are gonna lay in bed and watch Luca again okay?” Maya explained carefully so Carina knew every step and wouldn’t get even more overwhelmed or anxious, Carina looked up at her, eyes completely dialated, and gave her a small nod reaching her arms out for maya to pick her up, once Maya securely had her in a koala bear hold Carina turned her head into Maya’s neck and whimpered “mayaaaaa” “Aww I Know honey it’s okay, Ive got you, then they slowly walked to Carina’s office and carried out the steps that they had talked about

Maya, Carina, and Y/N are walking along a small park near their home. The sun is setting down alongside a hill, and the cool autumn air is moving the few already fallen leaves around. There aren't many clouds in the sky, making the brightest stars already visible on the evening sky.
Y/N smiles, closing her eyes as she takes a deep breath, smelling the fresh air around them. They all wanted to get out of the house, starting to feel a little like the walls were falling down on them, especially Y/N, as she doesn't have the same crazy schedules as her girlfriends.
"Want to go up the hill to see the sunset better?" Maya asks, knowing how much Y/N enjoys seeing the sky change its colors.
They all decide it's a good idea, so they start to walk towards the hill. From further away, it deosn't seem like a too big of a climb. However, as they continue walking, Y/N can properly see how steep the hill is. She can feel her breathing get heavier and quicker the moment they step foot on the base of the hill, but she doesn't say anything. It's just a hill, she feels embarrased to struggle while her girlfriends walk on with ease. At the middle of the hill, Y/N's pace begins to slow down. Her breaths in and out are short and quick paced, but she makes them as quiet as possible so Maya and Carina wouldn't hear. She continues pushing on.
Right before the top, the hill becomes even steeper. Maya and Carina are already at the top, enjoying the way the sun is painting the sky. At the last steps, Y/N's breathing turns audibly wheezy, getting her girlfriends' attention. They walk over to her, worry clear on their faces as they try to ask Y/N what's wrong, but she can't hear properly through the thumping in her ears.
She feels Carina’s hands gently pushing her to the ground. She sits down, her panicked eyes moving between Carina and Maya. “I c-“ she gasps, her lungs feeling like they’re collapsing, “I can’t breathe.”
“You have to calm down, bellezza.” Carina rubs her back, while Maya helps her take off the tight shirt she is wearing. “Take long and deep breaths for me.”
Y/N follows Carina’s instructions to the best of her abilities. It takes a while for her breathing to settle down, which scares both Maya and Carina, as they’ve never experienced something like this with Y/N.
Once Y/N’s breathing is normal, though slightly heavier, Maya grabs her still shaking hand. “What happened?”
“I have asthma.” Y/N tells with a sheepish look on her face.
Her girlfriends look shocked, and slightly alarmed they weren’t made aware of her condition. “Where’s your inhaler?” Maya is frowning.
“I don’t have one.” She mumbles, biting her lower lip. “Well I do, but I haven’t picked up my new dose yet.”
“That could’ve ended very badly, bellezza.” Carina sets her hands on Y/N’s cheeks, making her look at her. “You have to tell us these things so we know what to do when something like this happens. You also need to have an inhaler with you at all times.” Her doctor voice comes out, which Y/N usually finds very attractive, but right now she just feels like a scolded child.
“I know. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”
Maya helps Y/N up, giving back her shirt that she slips on. “Tomorrow morning, we’ll go and get it right when the pharmacy opens.” She states, leaving no room for negotiation.
Y/N nods with a small smile, her gaze moving to the sky. “The sun has already set.” She pouts, feeling guilty they missed it because of her attack.
“It sets every night, we’ll catch it again.” Carina tubs her back while they start walking down the hill and back to their house, now in a much slower pace. “But lets not up that hill again.” She grins, kissing Y/N’s cheek.

Tumblr media
⚠️Trigger Warning⚠️ This one-shot includes the mention of a rampage and a brief mention of a hostage situation. Those plots are presented. If this triggers you too easily or you just can´t handle the subject, I urge you NOT to read this work. I am NOT embellishing this topic under any circumstance. Read at your own risk.

For you, the university was not only a place of learning, but also a melting pot of emotions. As the daughter of Maya and Carina, you felt the expectations weighing on your shoulders. Your mother, a respected obstetrician-gynecologist, had already made her mark in the medical world, and you felt the urge to follow in her footsteps.
Your parents had never put any pressure on you to follow the same path as either of them. Nevertheless, you felt an inner obligation to continue your family tradition. Even as a little girl, you listened with fascination when your mother talked about the challenges and successes of her job. The love of medicine seemed to be embedded in your DNA.
The campus pulsed with life as you moved through the crowd, clutching your books on anatomy and surgery, eager to head to your lectures. Like every day, your heart beat faster with excitement and a hint of uncertainty.
In your first year at university you found yourself in a world characterized by complex theories and demanding internships. The anatomy books became your constant companion and you learned to understand human anatomy like a puzzle. In the labs, you made precise cuts and analyzed tissue samples with the dedication of an artist who wanted to perfect every detail of her work.
The challenges of studying became clear as you approached your first internship at the hospital. Beads of sweat appeared on your forehead as you assisted in your first procedure. The smell of disinfectant and the hum of medical equipment surrounded you. You felt the responsibility getting bigger and bigger.
But with each passing day, not only did the challenge grow, but so did your passion. You soaked up the knowledge like it was the sweetest honey and found comfort in the advice of your professors.
The lecture hall you had just entered was filled with a hushed murmur of inquisitive students as you slumped in your seat. The excited atmosphere before another exciting lecture permeated the room as the professor began to talk about the latest advances in surgery. Surrounded by attentive fellow students, you listened intently to the expert's words and the technical details that rained down on you.
The projections on the wall showed complex surgical procedures as the professor delivered her explanations with enthusiasm and expertise and you tried to understand the connections between the details. You found yourself in a stream of information that took you into the fascinating world of medical innovations. Your eyes sparkled with excitement, taking in every sentence as if they could be keys to some secret knowledge.
Just before the professor was about to play a video showing complex open-heart surgery, a shrill alarm code, followed by an urgent warning, ripped through the air. "Attention, active shooter. Barricade yourself in the rooms." The room froze for a moment. You sat up, your eyes wide in surprise. An uneasy feeling settled in your stomach.
Students frantically ran to corners and sought shelter under tables. The professor tried in vain to calm the panicked crowd. But the situation escalated further when muffled shots were heard from outside the building. Recognizing this soundscape captured the attention of everyone in the room. Faces faded with fear and a feeling of helplessness spread.
Your heart was in your throat, you could hear the pulsing of your own heartbeat as you also pushed yourself into a corner, trying to keep a clear head. Panic was in the air, and thoughts of the surgical procedures and advances paled in front of the pressing reality.
A wave of fear passed through you and your thoughts whirled wildly. The idea of the place of learning becoming a scene of violence shook you to the core.
In a moment that seemed like an eternity, doors were thrown open and hooded figures entered. Another wave of fear swept through the room as people realized that this was no mere alarm, but a cruel reality. The shadow of disaster had entered the lecture hall.
Armed men in dark clothes now dominated the scene. Your class was taken hostage and a cold shiver ran through your body. Your eyes searched for allies, for a means of escape, but the men with weapons clung to their control over the desperate crowd.
The professor, your fellow students and you were trapped in a nightmare that was unfolding at breakneck speed. The situation worsened when the men began making demands and firing wildly in the air. You suddenly found yourself in the middle of a threatening drama that you never thought possible.

Maya and Carina stood in the fire station's supply room, surrounded by boxes full of medical supplies, taking inventory of necessary medical supplies. The mood was focused as the two checked lists and made sure all life-saving supplies were present.
"Do you think we should order more bandages? To be on the safe side?" the blonde asked as she pulled out individual small packages, counted them and then sorted them into the cupboards. "Yes, I think so. You can't have enough of them, especially on larger missions."
The sounds of the plastic wraps and packaging had created a calming atmosphere, but it was suddenly broken by a shrill voice. Victoria, who until recently had been sitting in the relaxation room, stormed into the small inventory room, her eyes wide with dismay. "You must come with me immediately," she said in a trembling voice. Her hands were gripping the remote control tightly.
Maya and Carina exchanged a worried look and dropped everything. Both women's hearts began to pound wildly in their chests as they quickly left the room and followed their friend. As they entered the room, they both stopped in the middle of it.
The television flickered as the newscaster solemnly announced the terrible truth. "A serious incident has occurred at Seattle University. Armed attackers have entered the building and taken hostages. Police are on scene, but the situation is extremely critical."
Maya and Carina stared at the screen in shock as the reporter reported on the dramatic scenes, hitting them like a blow. Images of students running out filled the room. An icy shiver ran through the two of them when the name of the affected university was mentioned several times. A feeling of helplessness fell like a leaden veil over their hearts. The words invaded their thoughts, and the images of their beloved daughter studying at this institution seemed like a fragile glass threatened by an impending storm. "Y/n.. she has classes today. She's there."
Carina felt her knees weakening and tears forming in her eyes. The blonde reflexively clung to the back of the sofa. The world of the two, which had just seemed so familiar and safe, was thrown out of control. The maternal instincts awoke with frightening intensity when they thought of the dact that you were currently in a dangerous situation. "Oh mio Dio, no," the brunette whispered, her voice shaky. Maya, usually a rock in the surf, felt tears burning in her eyes too. Fear for her daughter engulfed them both like a blazing fire.
"We have to go to the university immediately," Maya spoke, interrupted by the muffled sound of the news in the background. Carina nodded, the determination in her eyes reflecting the inner strength that mothers could mobilize in times of crisis.
The fear, worry and hope blurred together as they set off together, seeking reassurance that they would do everything in their power to get you out of there.

jealousy
The clinic at Station 19 was abuzz with activity, and Maya found herself in the thick of it, tending to one patient after another. The unending stream of cases had her juggling paperwork and patient care, and she couldn't help but feel grateful when Carina and Elena entered following a shift at the hospital.
Maya's face lit up with relief as she spotted them. "Carina, Elena, you have no idea how glad I am to see you both! It's been absolutely non-stop. We only had Warren for the past two hours and it’s been a LOT."
Carina leaned in for a quick kiss, and Elena greeted Maya with a warm hug. Their arrival was a welcome sight amidst the chaos.
As they exchanged pleasantries, their collective attention shifted toward the patients' waiting area. Carina took a patient with Maya while Elena took another.
"So, Dr. Rodriguez, I have to say, you're the prettiest doctor I've ever seen."
Elena, in her usual professional manner, handled the situation gracefully. "Thank you, that's very kind. Now, let's talk about your symptoms."
Despite Elena's attempts to redirect the conversation toward the patient's medical condition, her persistent glances and playful comments made it clear she was more interested in something other than her ailment. Elena played into it a bit, having a bit fun at work never hurt anybody as long as she stayed professional and didn't cross any lines.
Carina, ever perceptive when it came to Elena, observed the patient's interest and the subtle undercurrent of tension behind the curtain. She leaned closer to Maya, her voice a whisper filled with playful jealousy. "Looks like someone has a little crush on Elena."
Maya's eyes sparkled mischievously as she glanced at the patient, then back at Carina. "Well, who could blame her? Elena is quite the catch."
But Maya's comment didn't go unnoticed by Carina, and she felt a twinge of jealousy herself. Her competitive spirit kicked in as she leaned closer to Maya, whispering. "Maybe I should remind you and Elena why you're lucky to have me."
Maya grinned, loving the playful rivalry between them. "Oh, please, Carina. You both are a handful." Maya and Carina treated their patient before making their way outside of Elena’s treatment curtain.
Carina watched the interaction closely, her jealousy growing more pronounced as she noticed Elena’s interest in the situation. She watched Elena's body language and comments in depth. Maya, sensing Carina's feelings, reached out to gently grasp her hand, a silent reassurance that everything was okay.
Maya's grip on Carina's hand tightened, and she leaned in to whisper. "Carina, let's not make a scene. Elena can handle herself."
Carina nodded, grateful for Maya's calming presence. She knew that jealousy was irrational in this situation, but it was hard to suppress.
As Elena completed her examination of the patient, she returned to Maya and Carina, her eyes sparkling mischievously. "Well, that was an interesting case. She seemed more interested in flirting than discussing her symptoms."
Carina couldn't help but grin, feeling reassured by Maya's touch. "Can't say I blame her."
Maya joined in the playful spirit, giving Carina's hand a reassuring squeeze. "You've got quite the fan club, Elena."
Elena feigned exasperation. "Oh, please. You two are impossible."
The banter continued as they finished up their shift at the clinic. But as they made their way back to their apartment, the undercurrent of jealousy that had sparked earlier began to simmer beneath the surface. Maya couldn't help but notice that Carina's playful jealousy had taken on a slightly different tone.
As they settled into their cozy living room, the tension became palpable. Elena excused herself to take a quick shower, leaving Maya and Carina alone. Maya turned to her with a concerned look.
"Carina, is everything okay?" she asked softly.
Carina hesitated for a moment, her insecurity bubbling to the surface. "Maya, do you think Elena is more attracted to other people sometimes? Like that patient earlier?"
Maya was taken aback by the question but quickly realized that Carina's jealousy had triggered some deep-seated insecurities. She took Carina's hand gently, searching for the right words to reassure her.
"Carina, you know how much Elena loves you. We have a unique dynamic, and sometimes, playful flirting happens. But it doesn't change her feelings for you. She's madly in love with you, just as I am. We both are," Maya said earnestly.
Carina sighed, feeling a mixture of relief and embarrassment. "I know, Maya. It's just that sometimes, I can't help but wonder..."
Before Carina could finish her sentence, Maya leaned in and silenced her with a passionate kiss. Their lips met with a fiery intensity, fueled by a potent combination of love and desire. Maya's hands moved to Carina's waist, pulling her closer.
Carina responded eagerly, her hands roaming over Maya's body, igniting a passionate hunger between them. The insecurity that had momentarily clouded the atmosphere was forgotten as their desires took over.
Elena, having finished her shower and sensing the shift in energy, approached the living room. She paused in the doorway, a smile playing on her lips as she watched her two lovers entangled in a passionate embrace. It was moments like these that reminded her of the depth of their connection. She cleared her throat softly, announcing her presence. Maya and Carina broke their kiss, their flushed faces turning towards Elena.
"Looks like I interrupted something," Elena said with a smirk.
Maya grinned, pulling Elena into their embrace. "Not at all. You're just in time to join the fun."
Maya's fingers fumbled with the buttons of Carina's blouse, her eagerness making her hands tremble. The sound of fabric hitting the floor was followed by a momentary pause as Carina's bra joined the pile.
Elena, standing by the bed, couldn't help but watch with a hunger in her eyes. She had always admired Carina's curves, but seeing her now, in the throes of passion, ignited a longing that she couldn't resist. Her lips found Maya's neck, leaving a trail of soft, wet kisses that made Maya's breath catch.
Carina's hands, determined and possessive, slid down Maya's back and gripped her hips. She pulled her closer, their bodies pressed together, a perfect fusion of desire. Maya's nails dug into Carina's shoulders as their lips met in a fervent, hungry kiss.
The room was filled with the sound of their ragged breaths and the soft rustling of sheets as they tumbled onto the bed, limbs entangled. The sensation of skin against skin sent electric shocks through their bodies, their moans of pleasure punctuating the air.
They weren't holding back tonight. The earlier jealousy had lit a fire in them, and they gave in to the primal need to possess and be possessed. Elena's fingers traced patterns of desire along Maya's inner thighs, while Carina explored every curve and contour of Elena's body with a fervor that left her breathless.
Hours seemed to blur together as they explored each other's desires. They switched partners, their lips and hands seeking out new heights of ecstasy. The room became a sanctuary for their passion, where inhibitions faded away, and they were free to express their deepest desires.

Okay so, I wrote a little thing 🥹
I started writing this story right after season five, then I abandoned it because I wasn't inspired anymore. The recent developments in Travis and Emmett relationship inspired me all over again so I finished it, and here we go. It's not related to canon in season 7 because I didn't want to delete what I had already written, but I'm definitely going to write something related to season 7 asap.

"Maya's sensory Sunday Fun-day" [Ao3 Link]
Summary: Maya runs a sensory workshop for neurodivergent kids. Queen of the clipboard is deep in preparation mode, trying to make the session even better than the last time. With a little help from her wife and the firehouse fam.
“What are you doing here?” Maya asks, her voice a little hoarse. Carina raises an eyebrow and smirks. “Is that any way to greet your wife ?” Maya's eyes widen comically, shoulders slumping as she deflates. She shuffles on the spot and wrings her hands, avoiding eye contact like a child that's been caught sneaking cookies after bedtime.
Note: the moodboard was created by me. Major props to @krysanteemi for beta'ing and helping me transform this fic into something amazing. I appreciate your help so very much <3

august 26th : homemade lemonade
Carina arrives home a little after eight o’clock, her body weary after back-to-back surgeries all day. The summer heatwave they are currently experiencing didn’t help. The hospital’s infrastructure is struggling in the hot temperatures and the vents had broken down at least three times today. Carina had escaped to her Porsche in between patients just to enjoy its air conditioning. Her feet ache, her legs are tired, and all she can think about is a cool shower and falling into bed – preferably naked, with her wife.
She is immediately greeted by the overwhelming smell of lemons when she steps into the apartment and, for a moment, she wonders if Maya has been on a cleaning spree. And then she sees her wife in the kitchen, rolling out and squeezing lemon juice into a small bowl – hears her too, as she sings along with the radio, a little off key as always. She doesn’t hear Carina or the click of the front door, so Carina lingers for a while, watching her.
Maya is relaxed and happy, and Carina feels her heart swell at how carefree she is, so different from the woman shrouded in darkness who shared their bed twelve months ago. So many times these days, Carina finds herself just watching her and soaking in her happiness.
As if sensing she is being watched, Maya looks over her shoulder and smiles when she sees her wife.
“Hey,” she says cheerfully. “How was your day?”
“Hmph. Long,” Carina says, kicking off her shoes and padding into the kitchen. “What are you up to?”
She greets Maya with a kiss, then leans back against the counter to watch her work. How her wife makes squeezing lemons look sexy, she will never know.
“Making lemonade,” Maya says. “I stopped by the grocery store on my way home from the station and they had all these lemons going cheap. This heat is insane and it reminded me of when I was a kid.”
She wipes her brow with the back of her hand.
“My dad went away for a few days on a work trip, so it was just me and Mason with Mom. We had a neighbour with a lemon tree who came over with a bag full of lemons, so Mom taught us how to make lemonade. We set up a little table on the sidewalk in front of our house and sold it for twenty cents a cup.”
Her eyes glaze over as she tells her story.
“Mom said we could spend the money we made on whatever we wanted. I chose an ice-cream sundae and Mason wanted a new comic. Mom took us to the cinema afterwards. It was a Disney movie, I think. She even let us have popcorn.”
“It must have been a good day to still remember it,” Carina says, picking up on her wistful mood.
“Yeah, it was,” Maya says. “We used to make lemonade every summer after that, until my dad started coaching me.” The smile drops from her face. “Then every holiday was spent training.”
“Maya…” Carina says softly, but Maya shakes her head.
“It’s okay. Diane says it’s important to remember the good parts, I just have to learn not to let it be tainted by the other stuff.”
“That’s good advice,” Carina says.
Maya exhales, a habit she has picked up on when she is letting go of what used to haunt her.
“Okay, I think that’s enough lemon juice,” she says, pouring what she has into a jug of water and adding a cup of sugar. “You know, my mom always swears by adding a little bit of honey too.”
Maya searches the cupboards until she finds the jar she is looking for. She adds a spoonful of honey and mixes it together. Meanwhile, Carina grabs two glasses and fills them with ice. Maya pours the homemade lemonade over the top and swirls it around, then passes one glass to Carina while keeping the second for herself.
“Cheers.”
“Cin cin.”
They clink glasses and each take a sip.
“Hmm, so good,” Carina says, sighing with delight at the sensation of the cold liquid down her throat. She nods towards the pile of lemons left over. “Maybe tomorrow I can show you how to make lemon gelato?”
Maya smiles. “I’d like that.”
Carina returns her smile as she slides her hand into Maya’s.
“Come on, bella, I need a shower to wash off this day.”
She starts to pull Maya towards the bedroom.
“And you need my help with that?”
Carina smiles over her shoulder. “Not a need – a want.”
