The sheer statistical difference in the use of beta polls versus tumblr live is killing me. Look at this
Tumblr media
8 people go live. Clearly all bots or at least not your standard tumblr users. 315 total participants between the 8 livestreams including one with nobody tuned in at all.
Tumblr media
One poll. Snail race. Five options, all the same emoji. 41,482 notes. 125,259 votes and counting.
This is the platform I want to be on.

Some Interesting Stats From my YouTube Channel
YouTube tells me where my 'external traffic' comes in from, i.e. what websites people are using before they click on my videos. The vast, vast majority of my views come from people who are already on YouTube, but I like to see what other parts of the internet people click in from. So, on this latest video:
9.9% of external views came from Discord, the largest single share. Impressive considering I don't even have a Discord!
7.6% came from Twitter, and 1.1% from Bluesky. That's interesting because on Twitter I have 333,000 followers whereas on Bluesky I only have 19,000. So my Bluesky audience is punching harder than Twitter, despite being smaller!
🎉🎉🎉 5.4% came in from TUMBLR! Very respectable! 🎉🎉🎉
Only 0.5% came in from Patreon. This suggests that my Patreon subscribers are using the site as a payment processor to support the show, and aren't spending much time on the actual site at all
one person came in from chess.com
33 people came in from kiwifarms...
And that led to an interesting side-investigation! Twitter user @canslp_ asked which recent video of mine got the most visitors from KF, and the answer was surprising! 46 watched the Dracula's Ex-Girlfriend announcement video, which is more than watched my video on AI or my video on plagiarism and misogyny. In second place was my documentary on the NHS, with 179 views. But the announcement trailer for The Prince got 327 visitors from KF, the biggest by far! All of which suggests that KF users are far more interested in my personal life and acting career than they are my standard videos.

"For years, Sharissa Derricott, 30, had no idea why her body seemed to be failing. At 21, a surgeon replaced her deteriorated jaw joint. She’s been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition. Her teeth are shedding enamel and cracking.
None of it made sense to her until she discovered a community of women online who describe similar symptoms and have one thing in common: all had taken a drug called Lupron.
Thousands of parents chose to inject their daughters with the drug, which was approved to shut down puberty in young girls but also is commonly used off-label to help short kids grow taller.
The drug’s pediatric version comes with few warnings about long-term side effects. It is also used in adults to fight prostate cancer or relieve uterine pain and the Food and Drug Administration has warnings on the drug’s adult labels about a variety of side effects.
More than 10,000 adverse event reports filed with the FDA reflect the experiences of women who’ve taken Lupron. The reports describe everything from brittle bones to faulty joints.
In interviews and in online forums, women who took the drug as young girls or initiated a daughter’s treatment described harsh side effects that have been well-documented in adults.
Women who used Lupron a decade or more ago to delay puberty or grow taller described the short-term side effects listed on the pediatric label: pain at the injection site, mood swings and headaches. Yet they also described conditions that usually affect people much later in life. A 20-year-old from South Carolina was diagnosed with osteopenia, a thinning of the bones, while a 25 year-old from Pennsylvania has osteoporosis and a cracked spine. A 26 year-old in Massachusetts needed a total hip replacement. A 25-year-old in Wisconsin, like Derricott, has chronic pain and degenerative disc disease.
“It just feels like I’m being punished for basically being experimented on when I was a child,” said Derricott, of Lawton, Okla. “I’d hate for a child to be put on Lupron, get to my age and go through the things I have been through.”

on our most recent episode, we read an incredible email that we got from a listener, Mackenzie, in which Mackenzie gave us this incredible information:
You asked if anyone had read all of Destiel fanfiction, and I am here to tell you that it is physically impossible. After estimating the average length of a Destiel fic and multiplying that by the number of Destiel fics on AO3, it comes to 1,171,662,455 words. This would be like reading LoTR (including the Hobbit) and the Twilight Series 1000 times, which is about 6 years and 10 months worth of reading. This means that if someone read Destiel fic 12 hours a day, every day, since Castiel was introduced as a character less than 14 years ago, they would almost be caught up. Of course, if you include all Supernatural and RPF fic, the total reading time is 18 years, 10 months, which is longer than the show has existed.

Some notes:
No new tags that I saw this month, though as always I could have missed something! As you can see, we already have quite the assortment of canonized tags.
Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (740 of 842 are in spanish, from 731 last month), Tortillaland (110 of 115 are in spanish, the same as last month), and QSMP (752 of 7,375 are in spanish, from 668 last month.)
QSMP also shows 39 fics in French, up from 30 last month, and 405 in Brasilian Portugese, up from 375 last month. While I did not check every language this month, I checked on the languages I knew had a fic in QSMP and we see 1 fic in ASL (probably a misclick as it appears to be in english), 1 fic in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in German, 1 fic in Esperanto, 1 fic in Filipino, 5 works in European Portugese, 5 fics in Русский (Russian), 1 fic in Suomi (Finnish), 1 fic in Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese), and 3 fics in 中文-普通话 國語 (Mandarin Chinese, I believe), all the same as last month. New is two fics in Polski (Polish), one fic in Svenska (Swedish), and one fic in Dansk (Danish).
In the small and micro fandoms (under 200 fics), some of the most active small fandoms have grown out of this category so we only saw small amounts of growth. The standout fandoms all saw an increase of 6 works, and that was a tie between Content SMP, New Life SMP, and Witchcraft SMP. Note that Content SMP was coming up from only 24 works, so 6 new works is an increase of 25% of the fandom, truly impressive.
In the midsize fandoms (200-1000), Fable SMP has broken that 1000-fic mark and can no longer qualify for our standout fandom! Instead, our most active fandom was Evolution SMP, with 33 new works, followed by Mystreet with 20 fics and Minecraft: Story Mode with 24 fics. Mystreet and Story Mode are both new fandoms so it's unclear whether that's people retagging old work or true new fics.
For the post-canon big fandoms: Empires went up by 178 works, singificantly more than last month's 117, but not beating the previous month's 240, and Dream SMP's increase of 918 beat the previous month's 767, but is still only the second time I've seen this fandom fall under a thousand works plus a month. Hermitcraft is between seasons right now, but still experienced that holiday exchange boost, as its increase of 784 beat both last month's 574 and the previous month's 651. For active fandoms, traffic series posted a staggering 831 fics, which is its highest ever number, beating April 2023's 671 fics. QSMP saw 865 fics, which is part of a three month decline (894 last month, 913 the month before), but still posting numbers that are only exceeded by DSMP.
Overall, the number of fics posted under Video Blogging-RPF (the umbrella fandom that contains all MCYT) is 4,223 fics, a significant increase from last month's 3,489, and the previous month's 4,035, but still exceeded by October's record 4,702. Notably, it's higher than the summer numbers and almost exactly the same as the number we saw last January, 4,235 new works.
Detailed breakdown under the cut
The Cube SMP (8 works, 8 last month, 0-fic increase)
Slamacow Minecraft Animations (Web Series) (10 works, 10 last month, 0-fic increase)
iDots SMP (23 works, 22 last month, 1-fic increase)

THE FINAL SMACKDOWN.
Tumblr media
Big congratulations to "The Two-Headed Calf" for a solid win over "How to Be a Dog" (and to our Third Place competitor, "Wild Geese")!
Thank you to all who participated. I had a lot of fun with this and I hope you guys did as well! I've said it before but I had no idea this would get as big as it did, and it's been truly heartening to see this many people engaging with poetry and getting excited about it. I'm personally grateful to all the folks I got the chance to discuss poems with, and everyone who challenged me to see these poems in a new light. Whether you were introduced to new poems or reunited with old ones, whether you voted with the majority or against it, I hope you got something out of this as well.
As promised, here is the grand stats spreadsheet. The smackdown with the highest turnout was the semifinal matchup "The Two-Headed Calf" by Laura Gilpin vs. "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver with 17,449 votes! In second place, Round 1: "Poem" by Langston Hughes vs. "A Meeting" by Wendell Berry with 16,690 votes.
Unfortunately my real-life responsibilities have hit me like a truck and I don't have time to do a whole post dedicated to reviewing more of it, but I hope y'all might share any insights you have below! I also included the word count stats on the "summary" page, as suggested in this ask by @puddinginthemix. Nevertheless, they don't seem to demonstrate a concrete trend in one direction or the other—the mean word count difference technically gives a slight edge to longer poems in competition, but with such an insane standard deviation as to render the whole thing silly.
On the topic of a sequel.
After some deliberation, I've decided I would love to do another one of these focusing on poems that are lesser-known on Tumblr! In a perfect world I would just jump right in again, but it's quickly becoming clear to me that I will not have time to sort through/pair submissions and then run the thing while balancing work and school in the upcoming semester. With that in mind, my plan is to run it over the winter holidays so I'm able to give it more of my attention. That said, I've already made the submission form, and I'm tempted to release that ASAP so that I can use any downtime in the fall to read, review, and structure things thoughtfully. I also just figure it'll get a higher volume of submissions if I release it now. I know it's probably not ideal, but would people be cool with me opening submissions earlier, even if it means there'll be a significant time gap between submission and competition? If so, I'll get that out no later than Tuesday, and likely keep it open for a few weeks (unless it gets, like, seriously swamped lol).
Lastly, I've still got some asks I need to get through.....they're still on my mind. I'll do my best to respond to everyone within the next week!
Thank you again to everyone who participated, it's been such a joy!

Always Sunny Fan Survey
Hello, this post is coming to you from the Bureau of Always Sunny Statistics.
We, at the bureau, are dedicated to delivering the answers to your burning Always Sunny questions. Have you ever wondered who the silent Charlie majority are that sweep every poll? Do you want to know who the public think the funniest/most attractive/most pathetic member of the gang is? Would you like to know what the most loathed and loved ships and episodes are? Would you like to pretend to be surprised when Charlie turns out to be the most popular character and macdennis the most popular ship?
Most importantly, would you like to spend way too much time (around 30-40 minutes) filling out a survey?
When I have received enough data I'll make a post going over all of the Bureau's findings. There are probably too many questions but it should autosave and so you can take breaks and complete it over a few days. Please reblog and share among IASIP fans so the Bureau can obtain lots of data.

Some casual Supergirl math:
Confidence Women appears to be a bit over 5k words (though there will probably be variance - high conversation vs. high action episodes will vary).
Supergirl had 126 episodes. That puts the show at 630k words.
We have 8 works that individually are longer than the original show. I think some writers like @jazzfordshire are over a million words across their works. (I've been around for 2 years and have 200k words across my works.)
I don't have an easy way to compute a mean average, but the median fic (of the 21,297 fics we currently have on AO3) is at 3,260 words... if we have an even distribution, that suggests about 69 million words total.
This is all handwavy math that I did in 5 minutes, but... it looks like we may have done the show's words over 100x over as a fandom.
And that's pretty cool ❤️

Hi!!! I love stats and I've been absolutely entranced by @haveyouseenthismovie-poll and @haveyouheardthisband, so I made my own one for food!
>>>>>Here's where to suggest foods!<<<<<
(foods already suggested)
If you’re here to make fun of ethnic foods this is not the blog for you goobaba
Mods: @lesbianplissken, @gothglam, @jade-harley-lesbian, @kevinsteen
terfs aren’t allowed to have food or fun
The pictures we choose are to give a general look at the food and add an element to our posts. It’s hard to find good photos, especially ones of high quality and with the dimensions we prefer. Apologizes if we get things wrong!

In the shy v bold story sense, is there the possibility for a shy/bold Hound to have moments were the act bold/shy instead? Would you have something in coding/writing that accounts for such a scenario?
For shy MC it could be a moment of sudden passion taking hold, making them more forward for just a single instant.
In the case of the bold MC maybe it's a feeling of realization almost cowing them into becoming tongue tied.
To be clearer, in game you'll have a variable that tracks how your MC flirts. The options will be either direct or subtle, which isn't exactly the same as MC being shy or bold.
Because direct may mean MC flirting openly, but with a straight face. MC taking RO's hands in theirs. MC publically defending RO's name.
While subtle may mean MC leaving gifts for ROs in their room. Making sure they are safe from a distance without words. Or simply subtly taking revenge after someone did/said something against RO.
Yes, the variable will be tracked, and at one point in game (probably when the courting begins) it will be fixed. After that, a MC with a subtle trait will have slightly different options in interacting with their ROs than a MC with direct trait. Which, yes, sometimes they could include MC being uncharacteristically different than usual.
