2022 fic roundup

happy belated new year, everyone! now that 2022 is over, I’m back with my annual self-rec list! I honestly missed doing these -- in 2021 I hadn’t written any fic at all, and I’m really happy that I’ve managed to get back into it this year. I still didn’t write any longer fics that I’d usually post to ao3, but I did manage some ficlets.

“Tony,” Steve breathed, as he did another lap of the room, taking his time to admire the easel set up in one corner and the stacks of blank canvases by the window. There wasn’t any furniture in the quaint, cozy brownstone, at least not yet, but there were more than a few wooden crates overflowing with paint and brushes and sketchbooks lined up along the wall. “This is way too much.”

Tony just offered a casual wave of his hand. “Oh, c’mon, I’m sure you’ll use it all up eventually,” he said from his spot in the doorway, where he’d been taking in Steve’s reaction with a pleased grin. “You go through pencils quicker than you go through punching bags, no harm in having a little extra.”

Steve shook his head, gawking at the boxes of art supplies tucked away neatly just for him, still slightly overwhelmed by the sight of it all. Everything Steve had ever mentioned wanting, even in passing, was here, from a homey studio in the heart of Brooklyn to his favorite brand of watercolors, and while all of the thought that Tony had clearly put into this was very much appreciated—and heart-meltingly touching—Steve was having trouble wrapping his mind around the scale of it.

Over the course of their relationship, Tony had given him some pretty extravagant gifts, but nothing as big as a four-story art studio.

Alpine’s affectionate, but usually not this affectionate.

She butts her head against Bucky’s arm when she needs attention, she nuzzles against his hand when she wants to be pet — but recently, she’s been doing something new. More and more often, whenever Bucky finds himself laying in bed or sprawled out on the couch, Alpine will come over and burrow under his shirt, curling up next to him.

He has to admit, it’s pretty cute when it first happens. It starts becoming strange the second time. And by the third, Bucky’s downright confused.

Tony had always thought that Bruce’s love language was quality time.

It made sense, with the way Bruce had proposed weekly team dinners once they’d all moved into the Tower; the way he always offered to come along whenever Nat announced that she was going on a grocery run or Steve mentioned a new bakery he wanted to try out; the way he gravitated toward the common areas, though primarily the kitchen, as if waiting to be joined by someone else in silent companionship.

But now, Tony could see that he was only half-right.

Because Bruce’s real love language was food.

Q: Where can I get my bingo card? A: On December 1, a form will be available to pre-order your customized cards. You’ll be able to request a custom card until January 31 and then we’ll offer generic cards until May 31, 2021.

Q. What are the prompt categories? A. We’ve divided the prompts up into four categories to help tailor your card to your interests. Keep in mind that your fills don’t need to fit in the category of the prompt - you could write light fluffy G fic for a kink prompt if you wanted! Generic Prompts: These are all the sorts of tropes, settings, and concepts you might see on a bingo card. While some of them might have an edge to them, there’s nothing very dark and nothing explicitly kinky in this category. Dark Prompts: These are for our angst weasels and lovers of all things hurty and painful! These prompts range from mildly dark to deeply dark. Remember you can specify do not wants on your sign up and we’ll exclude those prompts from your card, even if you choose dark prompts as an option. Kink Prompts: These prompts are kinky, filthy, naughty, and dirty! While your fills don’t have to be E-rated, these topics have something inherently sexual or kinky about them. Only 18+ participants can request kink prompts. Character Prompts: These are single character names for characters that have appeared in MCU and comics canons. 

Q. What if I don’t like a prompt on my card? A. We urge you to be as creative as you can to find a way to use your prompts, but each participant will also be able to make one replacement request with up to three square replacements. Those replacements will be chosen randomly from the categories you requested. Q: Am I allowed to use a fill for STB Bingo for another event? A: From our perspective, absolutely. Cross-posting with other events/bingos is allowed as long as the other event allows it as well. Be aware that the other event may have minimums or requirements that are different from ours. Q: Do I have to write only Stuckony for this bingo? A: Absolutely not! One of the four ships (Winteriron, Stucky, Stony, and Stuckony) must be the primary focus of your work. Works can be gen or shippy. Poly relationships can be triad or V or any arrangement you like. Both happy and sad endings are allowed. The focus ship(s) do not have to be endgame, but please tag appropriately.

Q. Are there any content limitations? A. Nope! Again, please tag appropriately. Q: What are the minimum fill requirements? A: None. We promise. If you created it and you were inspired by the prompt in your square, then it's approved. Honest. Works must be made for this event and not previously posted elsewhere. Q: Where should I post my works so I can make sure to get a badge? A: You can post your works wherever you want, because in order to get a badge you must request a badge; we will not be tracking your cards.

Q: Does this mean that if I want to create a work far, far outside my normal brand and I’m not comfortable sharing it, I could link you a Google Doc or something for badge collection purposes? A: Yes. While we would obviously encourage you to share it in another method (Ao3 has an anonymous collection!), we understand that sometimes testing your own limits isn’t a thing for public consumption.
