For those who steal content for clout, FYI not everything on the internet is ‘’free’’.

People’s own original creations like their words, their artwork or even the images they make (for example, GIF’s) technically count as one’s own intellectual property. It belongs in some way to the OP and should not be re-posted elsewhere without proper credit or permission from the OP.

Tumblr is a website built to reblog, as in sharing the original post. There should be no issue of claiming someone else’s work as your own, right?

Right?

But I know most of y’all be like: "Well you put it online, so it is mine now. You get no credit, compensation, and I don't need your consent". Smells like theft and a denial of the origin where it was stolen.

Unfortunately people who steal content from other people’s blogs don’t care. They're doing it for free and for fun. Artists and writers are naturally upset when their work is stolen because it takes serious skills to create what they've spent years honing and perfecting. Imagine spending hours or even weeks making GIF’s, drawing art, or writing poetry or fiction only to see someone else re-post it for their own personal gain in a matter of minutes--less than half the time it took for you to make it. Stealing content doesn’t require a large amount of skill. It’s plagiarism.

So, next time you think about stealing someone’s work, keep this mind:

It can take five hours (or more) to create that post.

It takes you five minutes (or less) to simply copy and paste it (or download the image and reupload it on another website or whatever).

Think before you steal.

Don’t claim the work as your own.

Use the reblog button. That’s what it’s there for.

And for the love of hay, don’t edit the original post and remove the author’s/ artist’s credits. That’s just petty.
