5th March 1953 saw The Maid of the Loch, the last Loch Lomond paddle steamer, lowered into the water.
She was a replacement for the elderly Princess May and Prince Edward, and she remains the largest vessel to have sailed our inland waterways.
Built by the Glasgow firm of A & J Inglis, she was dismantled and taken by rail to Balloch where she was reassembled. She operated on Loch Lomond for 29 years and as of 2016 is being restored at Balloch pier.

S.S. Klondike National Historic Site, Whitehorse (No. 1)
SS Klondike is the name of two sternwheelers, the second now a National Historic Site located in Whitehorse, Yukon. They ran freight between Whitehorse and Dawson City, along the Yukon River, the first from 1929 to 1936 and the second, an almost exact replica of the first, from 1937 to 1950.
Klondike I was built by the British Yukon Navigation Company (a subsidiary of the White Pass and Yukon Route railway company) in 1929 and had the distinction of having 50% more capacity than a regular sternwheeler, while still having the shallow draft and meeting the size requirements in order to travel down the Yukon River. Klondike I had a cargo capacity of 270 metric tonnes without having to push a barge.
In June 1936, Klondike I ran aground north of The Thirty Mile section of the Yukon River (at 61°40′17″N 134°52′22″W). The company salvaged the ship's boiler, engines, and many fittings to build Klondike II the following year. The remains of the hull of the Klondike I can still be seen at low water by canoeists on the Yukon River.

Do you have any interest in tall ships?
Are you referring to like, sailing ships? If so, unfortunately, not much. I'm specifically into ocean liners, which started in the mid-1800s when steam power became trustworthy enough to offer a regular trans-Atlantic service. Many ships carried sail as backup up until the 1880s, when twin screwed ships became more popular. White Star Lines Oceanic class actually carried square rigged sails. They're gorgeous ships. Part Time Explorer has covered a few traditional sailing ships on YouTube, but that's about the extent of my knowledge.

Arthur Streeton (1867–1943) - From McMahon's Point - Fare One Penny, NSW, Australia,1890, oil on canvas; Sydney Harbour, 1907, oil on canvas on plywood; Sydney Harbour from 'Penshurst', Cremorne, 1907, oil on wood
Sir Arthur Ernest Streeton (1867–1943) was a great Australian Impressionist landscape painter. He was born in Duneed, Victoria, Australia. Aged 15 years, he began night classes at the National Gallery of Victoria School of Design. He also learned the rudiments from studying art manuals and photographs.
At age nineteen, he began an apprenticeship as a lithographer. He also joined a painting group where he painted plein air, alongside Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, and Louis Abrahams. He soon became a full time painter and developed a friendship with Charles Conder. The group of artists often camped and painted outdoors at Box Hill, Heidelberg, and the Yarra. They also provided art lessons and formed the Heidelberg School. During the 1890s, Streeton traveled further inland in New South Wales to explore the outback and the Hawkesbury River.
Streeton traveled to England. He took some time to adjust his artistic identity and become acquainted with very different landscapes. His best market was sending his English works for sale in Australia. Gradually, he began to win recognition in England, France, and the United States.
In 1915, Streeton served as a private in the Australian Army Medical Corps. After three years, he was appointed an official war artist and painted the Western Front in France. After the war, Streeton returned to painting romantic visions of the Australian landscape. By this time, he was a well-established painter. In 1937, was knighted for services to the arts.

S.S. Klondike National Historic Site, Whitehorse (No. 2)
Klondike II carried freight until the early 1950s. Due to the construction of a highway connecting Dawson City and Whitehorse, many Yukon River sternwheelers were decommissioned. In an attempt to save Klondike II, she was converted into a cruise ship by White Pass and Yukon Route. The Duke of Edinburgh (consort of Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada) was invited to tour the ship in 1954, being taken on a short trip down the Yukon River and back to Whitehorse during his day-long visit to the city. The venture shut down in 1955 due to lack of interest and Klondike II was left on the ways in the Whitehorse shipyards.
The ship was donated to Parks Canada and was gradually restored until 1966, when city authorities agreed to move the ship to its present location, at that time part of a squatters' area. The task required three bulldozers, eight tons of Palmolive soap, a crew of twelve men, and three weeks to complete. Greased log rollers eased the process. On 24 June 1967, the SS Klondike was designated a National Historic Site of Canada, and she is now open during the summer as a tourist attraction.

Did anyone else notice steamboat Mickey and Oswald the lucky rabbit are both in the public domain? Because I did :) to celebrate I drew this!
Description under cut
Description of drawing: [ID: Two digital drawings showing Oswald the lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse. Oswald is drawn as monochrome blue, with dark blue fur, grey shorts, and a white face and gloves. Mickey has dark red almost black fur, grey pants, white shoes and gloves, and a grey, white, and grey-red cap. The buttons on his shorts, gloves, and the blush on his cheeks are grey-red.
In the first drawing, Oswald is posed looking at the camera with a frown, while Mickey seems to be saying something to him, leaning forward with one hand on his hip and the other held up to gesture.
In the second, the two are sitting on invisible chairs, Mickey surrounded by hearts and holding his face in his hands with a lovesick expression, his thin tail crimped into a heart shape at the end, while Oswald looks over, looking shocked, sweating nervously.
Top corner signature: juni Oleary 2024
((Special thanks to @describe-things for reminding me to add a drawing description! ^^ this is there description they said I could use ((but I tweaked it a little))
