Steve did not know when he bought the house that it was haunted. Tired and world-weary, he doesn't leave. It'll take more than a ghost to scare him away. He's more scared of the world than whatever this house could throw at him.
(And just maybe, he finds the presence of ghosts a more familiar company in this century than anyone he would care to meet.)

MARVEL Headcannon #6:
Everyone knows how Steve (and probably Bucky, let's be real) are technologically inept, right? Well, you know who else would also be technologically inept? Thor and Loki, but not for the reasons you think.
See Steve (and Bucky, but maybe he has some tech training as the WS, I can't see HYDRA not teaching him how to hack, so really just trivial things such as using social media might confuse him) has the problem of literally jumping forward in time. Thor and Loki would have the exact opposite problem.
Asgard is like this super advanced place that has literal magic and stuff. It's more than safe to assume that despite keeping older aesthetic, they are a highly advanced civilization that is a perfect blend of traditional and innovative technology. The technology of the 21st century here on earth would probably be something that predates them on Asgard, like how telegrams predate everyone currently alive.
So, while Steve is coming forward in time, Thor and Loki are going back in time technology-wise. And that's why they struggle. It would be like if teens today tried to figure out how to use a telegram (or a phone booth/rotary phone) when they are so used to touchscreen.
Loki is a very adaptable person and is the literal God of Fake-It-Till-You-Make-It, and Bucky has been trained (conditioned) to observe and learn (hence the staring problem) so those two are better at hiding their confusion with technology, but Steve and Thor? Yeah, those two visibly struggle.
The four of them have a "support group" of sorts, where they're just trying to figure tech out. Honorable group members include Carol Danvers and Peter Quill, who are alien tech whizzes, and yet are still stuck using 80's tech Earth-wise.

Sunday Steve - Day One
Things that would be new or unfamiliar to Steve in the 21st century, either due to the time period he grew up in, or his social-economic status and other such factors.
Day One: Ball Point Pen
The history of the ball point pen is actually really interesting and I spent a lot of time digging through articles trying to decide if Steve would have used them.
See, ball point pens were technically invented right before World War Two (there's a complicated history of just who invented it first, but the one that caught on and began to be used in the states was invented by a Jewish refugee in the 1938s.)
László Bíró was able to get a contract with the British RAF to supply ball point pens to pilots. These pens worked better in cramped spaces and at high altitudes than fountain pens.
But outside of military use, the ball point pen did not catch on in America until the The Reynolds Rocket first sold for 12.50 each ($214 in today's money).
It may be possible that Steve had encountered a ball point pen before, given that Howard is an inventor and a pilot, he could have learned of them through him.
But there is a very high chance that Steve never used a ballpoint pen before going into the ice, and he may have never even seen one before. (As for retractable 'clicky' pens? Not invented till the 50s.)

pairing: steve rogers x platonic child!oc
summary: shortly after getting out of the ice in 2011, Steve finds out that the descendants of one of his friends live on New York, and he decides to visit them, thinking that maybe he won’t have to be all alone anymore. thanks to this, he finds a family for him in this new time.
content warning: brief mentions of death.

Tumblr media
Doubt had started to creep in as Steve hesitated on the doorstep, staring at the wooden door in front of him. An elderly man had opened the building’s door for him, recognising him from the news, or maybe from a museum exhibit — he was supposed to be ancient history by now, but yet there he stood. The second World War had been almost seventy years ago, and while having lived it, Steve was barely thirty. And his friends were dead, as he should be.
That was why he was standing in front of the apartment, really. It turned out that according to SHIELD’s extensive database, a past teammate of his, Dum Dum Dugan, had family living in New York, close to where he lived in Brooklyn. It was a no-brainer that he had to visit, at least drop in to see what had become of something he’d known. Something that wasn’t a grave. (Or Peggy Carter, of whom he didn’t want to think about too much, for the sake of his heavy heart.)
He would be intruding in their life, he knew that. It was probable that none of them ever wanted a super soldier in their house, stirring up memories from long ago, which was why he decided that, in reality, it was a bad idea from the start. He heaved a sigh and turned around. Maybe next time he would have the courage to go in. Third time’s the charm, isn’t that how that goes?
The sound of a lock turning made him stop on his tracks. The door to apartment 9B creaked, and Steve had to look down to see a head peeking from the small opened space left by the door. It was one of the kids he’d seen on the files, barely ten years old and grinning up at him like she knew something he didn’t.
“Hi,” breathed Steve, tripping on air as he made his way back to the door.
The girl giggled, sharing a look with someone still hiding behind the door. “Hi. You’ve been standing there a whole lotta time, Mr. Steve. Are you tired?”
He blinked. Maybe she did know something he didn’t.
“You know who I am?”
“Yeah! It’s the second time you’ve been to our house, but you never go in. Daddy says to give you time, but I think you need a little push,” she said, big green eyes looking up at him. “So this is me pushing you. Come on in, Dom even had time to bake some cookies while you were there!”
She made a motion of inviting him in, but as she walked towards what he guessed must be the kitchen, he stayed on the doorway. He knew her name was Flora, she was ten and a half, and barely four feet tall, which was short for her age. She was in fifth grade in a primary school in Brooklyn, and she already knew she wanted to be a doctor. Steve knew all these things about her, and he was a stranger to her — yet she was so trusting.
She turned around to look at him, a cheeky grin on her face as she said, “We have star sprinkles for you, Mr. Steve. Dad said maybe you wouldn’t like them, but Dom and I thought it would be so funny. Do you like red, white and blue sprinkles, Mr. Steve?”
It had been a while since he’d been around children, so he was unsure if Flora was some special case, or if all kids talked that much in so little time.
He managed to smile at her, about to answer—
“Flora!” a man’s voice chided, and Steve looked the other way to see who couldn’t be other than Ronan Dugan, her father, and Dum Dum’s grandkid. Ronan’s gaze settled on him, and he could see the apology swimming in his eyes. “Mr. Rogers, I’m so sorry about my daughter’s enthusiasm. They’ve just been excited to finally meet you.”
“They have?” he asked Ronan, startled. “I don’t mind it, it’s… refreshing, actually. And call me Steve, please.”
His eyes lingered on the girl running into the other room, her giggle echoing off the walls, and he was reminded of little Rebecca Barnes, who had just turned twenty the last time he’d seen her, which had been… a long time ago. She was probably dead, too.
“Director Fury told me you’d been asking around about us,” Ronan said, “and if there’s something my kids are, is nosy, so they found out about it.”
Steve had almost forgotten that detail. Most of the family had or was currently working for SHIELD both as agents on the field or offices, ever since Dum Dum had become one of the founding members of the organization—it was their legacy, and they clearly treated it like it.
Ronan stepped closer, lowering his voice. “If you think this is too much, I totally understand. You’re not obligated to be here, Steve. I can tell the kids you were called aw–”
“Nonsense,” he rapidly said. He didn’t know if he would have the courage to try again otherwise. “I’d love to meet all of you, if it’s alright with you.”
“I’m afraid Flora and Dominic would kick me out of my house if I kicked you out,” he joked, bringing an easy smile to Steve’s face. “You can leave your jacket on that hanger, by the way. The kids are in the kitchen, when Flora sensed you coming they started baking, as I’m sure she told you.”
Steve hesitated at the strange choice of words, but thought nothing of it and closed the front door behind him, hanging his aviator jacket. Soon he was being met with the smell of freshly baked cookies coming from the kitchen, where he could see Flora and a much taller boy, Dominic—who liked to be called Dom, as his file said.
As soon as he saw him, the teenager perked up, stretching a hand toward him.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Ro– Sir… Captain America,” he rushed the words out endearingly in a nervous manner.
Steve shook his hand, briefly surprised by the strength of his grip. “Call me Steve, Dominic.”
“Then you can call me Dom,” he replied, with a grin.
He glanced at the countertop, where Flora was working very hard in concentrating on handling the sprinkles she had told him about by the door. In the time he’d been deciding on whether he would enter or not, they had baked cookies that looked very appetizing—all with the color of his uniform, the flag of the United States.
The kitchen was bigger that the one he had at his apartment, which made sense given that it was for a family of three. It was cozy, and lived in, noticeable on the way the fridge was filled with stickers and photos stuck to it with magnets of places they’d visited—he felt a sudden sensation of longing in the way this house screamed home, a stark contrast to the cold place that awaited him just two blocks away.
“Can you eat cookies?” asked Flora, bringing him out of his evaluation of their home. “Dad isn’t really allowed to, he’s supposed to be on a diet.”
“I can eat pretty much anything,” he confessed, with a smile. “And however much I want, thanks to being a supersoldier.”
“Great, because we made too many cookies!”
“Come on, Flora, there’s no such thing as too many cookies,” said Ronan, bringing one to his mouth. “Especially when they taste this good. I might have to ban you two from the kitchen, eh? Not all of us can eat without getting fat.”
Steve laughed at the dig, and took the cookie that Dom was offering. His eyes widened. “This is really good.”
The kids high-fived each other, bright smiles on their faces for a job well-done.
Tumblr media
“What’s that?” asked Dominic, lazily pointing with his index finger to the leather notebook in Steve’s hands.
They had brought the trays to the living room and had turned on the television, and Steve had gotten it out of his pocket when something interesting had shown up on the News, ready to write it down for later.
“It’s where I write general knowledge events that I missed, so I can learn about them,” he said, handing it to him. “Director Fury gave me some of those, but I’ve been collecting them ever since I woke up.”
Flora stood behind the couch, reading the notebook from over her brother’s shoulder. “Steve, you’re missing a lot of stuff! I can’t believe Mamma Mia isn’t there,” she whispered in shock.
He hummed, recognizing the name. “That’s a song from ABBA, right?”
“And only the best musical of all time!”
“Says a ten-year-old,” laughed Ronan, sharing an amused look with Steve.
“Whoever recommended just Star Wars has clearly never watched Star Trek,” said Dom, a frown on his face as he read.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” breathed Steve, brows knitted together. “I tell you what, you both can write whatever you think I’m missing from this century—“
“—and the previous one,” piped in Ronan.
“And the previous one,” he agreed, and hesitantly looked at the kids. “And maybe you could show me some of it?”
Their eyes lit up, excitement shining in them.
“You are so watching Mamma Mia!” squealed Flora, running out of the living room.
Steve’s eyes followed her as she left, Ronan’s laugh filling the room. “You have a problem in your hands, she’s getting her CDs from her room.”
A beat passed.
“What’s a CD?”

Stucky headcanon of Steve and Bucky meeting in the 21st century...
"The mission is simple, get in, get the containment, get out. Minimum casualties."
Steve nods at Fury's instruction, accepting the report he'd just been handed.
"Thought this was a one-man job?"
The sound of heavy, thick-soled boots echo throughout Fury's office. Steve turns to look at James Buchanan Barnes, otherwise known as The Winter Soldier. Natasha had given him the run-down on Barnes and according to her, he was the best assassin SHIELD had ever commissioned. With over two dozen assassinations, one being a U.S president and top World Court officials making up the rest, Steve had to admit that the guy's resumé was impressive.
He rises to his feet and holds out a hand, a gesture in greeting cos his Mama always taught him to be polite.
"Hello, I'm Steve," he says with one of his best smiles.
Barnes watches him, then his outstretched hand and then turn backs to Fury with a dry look of mild annoyance.
"I work better alone. You know that."
Steve's smile drops along with his hand and he returns to his seat a little put out by Barnes's hostility. He could feel his cheeks burn from embarrassment.
"Well, Captain Rogers has been added to the scheme. He is at your disposal. And when I say disposal, I mean, he's the reason why the mission is minimum-casualty-coded."
Barnes lets out a frustrated sound, a hand on his hip. Steve takes in his black combat gear, noting the probable location of several knives and guns. He's got a black hoodie on but only one hand is gloved. Steve assumes it's simply a training preference. Natasha never mentioned just how good-looking he was, though.
Steve usually kept his attraction to other people carefully hidden beneath a veneer of indifference. Barnes just shattered it. He was Steve's height, with dark, chocolate hair that was swept up into a lazy bun, strands framing his face fashionably. His eyes were a wolfish blue, deep and intimidating. He was thick and brawny where Steve was slim and agile. Steve found himself wondering how it would feel to be under all that muscle during training.
He blushes from the absurdity of his own thoughts and looks away while Barnes continues to plead his case.
"I don't need help-"
"These orders come from the top, so there's really nothing I can do, Barnes." Fury tells him tiredly. "Now, quit pestering me and help your newest teammate get acquainted with mission training. Goodbye."
Bucky rolls his eyes and stalks out of the room before halting at the doors. He doesn't even turn around to look at Steve, but grunts,
"You comin' or what, Spangles?"
Steve hesitantly follows, heart in his throat because it was obvious this Winter guy didn't like his guts. He assumes his rep as the legendary Captain America would have some of the top guys at SHIELD skeptical, hell, he wasn't even well-liked back in his day. He vividly remembers being attacked with fruit during the USO tours. Remembers the resentment on the faces of men like Hodge and Greg, and most of the unit he'd served with until he'd earned their respect when he brought back the 107th.
If he hadn't done that, he imagined he'd be a poster boy for war bonds for his entire miserable life. He'd been to the Smithsonian, seen his exhibit and how they emphasized his time in the military. It was almost as if they didn't know there was an actual Steve Rogers underneath it all. As if they just wanted the world to know that he was all gung-ho for the war. Like he hadn't joined because he'd just lost his mother and wanted to do his best to follow in her footsteps and protect people from bullies.
Suddenly all his nerves had gone out and he was left in a state of shocked despair and depression.
It made sense for Barnes to despise him. Everything he was screamed self-righteousness.
"You comin' or what?" Bucky asks gruffly, shaking him from his thoughts. The elevator had stopped, he realizes, onto a new floor. He follows Barnes, finding it suspiciously hard to keep up with the man's quick and powerful strides.
They enter a standardized training room that's already buzzing with what Steve guesses is Bucky's team. There are about ten men milling about, some doing weights while others are working on weaponry. Steve notices one guy he'd worked with during the New York invasion with the Avengers.
"Holy shit," the man cackles, approaching them covered in sweat.
"Rumlow," he greets with a more professional air. If Bucky's reaction to him was anything to go by, he figured it'd be smarter to be professional, rather than polite. He was used to people not liking him very much.
"Rogers, didn't expect them to bring you in already."
"You knew about this?" Bucky snipes in a pissy tone.
Brock shrugs, "Heard a rumor a couple weeks ago, didn't think of it til now."
"Great," Bucky mumbles while the other guys approach them. Steve takes a step back warily, feeling a bit like a specimen under a microscope.
Bucky glances at him, eyes narrowed for a second before he talks again. "Captain, this is my STRIKE team. I'm assuming you know Rumlow, he's second in command. After him, Rollins. Wilson is one of our newer recruits but we've worked with his team before. He's pararescue. And our two specialists, Lopez and Murdock."
Lopez signs "hello" at Steve and he signs back in greeting, offering her an easy smile. Then he glances at Bucky who's eyes seem to harden and his smile drops again. Great, now his team captain thinks he's flirting with the only woman on the team.
Keep it up, Rogers. You'll be kicked out within the week.
"We have roughly two weeks to prepare for this retrieval. And now, thanks to Fury, we also have to bring Spangles into the loop." Bucky announces, matter-of-factly. Steve winces at the nickname he can already see as a permanent moniker in the very near future.
"Let's get to work."
This is for @thebrooklynnway as per my last post about Marvel villains being absolutely enamoured with "the pretty blonde himbo with big tits and a nice ass."
Also, I feel like I should write a fic about this.

Bucky was second in command for the Commandos therefore should've planned strategy with SSR as much as Steve. yet there's zero indication that the SSR personales knew Bucky well enough to even call him by his name??
Peggy has never addressed Bucky directly, even after his death Peggy used 'your friend' in her conversation with Steve. that's, if not avoidance out of jealousy of his relationship with Steve, detachment. there's no personal relationship between Bucky and her. plus Howard Stark calling him 'sergeant Barnes' which literally couldn't have been more impersonal.
the only logical conclusion is that the Commandos never spent time socializing with Peggy and Stark, they probably didn't even meet all that often cuz they were going around Europe fighting Hydra while SSR stayed behind doing their own stuff. Then how can Peggy possibly be the person Steve couldn't get over with, let along have any long lasting impact on him when they've barely spent time together?
popcorn movies are thoughtless and get criticized for this precise reason. the plot doesn't have to be properly developed bc audiences are conditioned to think certain ways and they complete the story in their head for the movie. 'oh that's a classic setup for romance, of course the hero falls in love with her.'
the thing is, it doesn't make sense, and when it doesn't, it shouldn't.
steggy is what happens when you let this thoughtlessness dictates how you percee a trope in a movie.
she never should've been the 'love of my life' for Steve. she simply couldn't have been. THEY BARELY KNEW EACH OTHER ffs.

Okay but like it makes no sense for steve to talk about peggy in the support group in endgame, like genuinely makes no sense. i know that marvel put it there to remind people of steve's "straightness" and how much he "loves" peggy. but it makes no sense, because even if that was the scenario, he wouldn't talk about peggy, he would talk about the people he lost in the snap. Bucky, sam, t'challa, wanda etc. So why would he not talk about them? well the only logical answer is that he can't talk about them because it just hurts too damn much, so he picks a safe topic, that wont have him crumbling to the floor AKA. peggy. Therefore we can deduce from this, that peggy is not as important to steve as anyone he lost in the snap, and marvel's attemps at proving steve's love for peggy, just prove how much he doesnt love her. In this essay i will-

where's the list??
I know you were asking for a list of the Top Five Multiversal Tony Stark’s Who Would Sexually Dog Walk Rob Liefield’s Captain America, but instead i'm gonna give you a list of Rob Liefield's Captain America's Top Five Kinks That Have Him White-Knuckling The Bathroom Sink While He Glares At Himself In The Mirror And Tries To Ignore The Taste Of Come In The Back Of His Throat (number 4 will have you--& Captain America--gagging!) bc it's been on my mind lately
Essentially, I feel like all of the more gruff iterations of Steve (including Rob Liefield v2 Cap, Ults Cap, and arguably EMH Cap) just need to be totally and completely objectified in order to get out of their heads for a bit. His body, his identity, and his duty are all intertwined so intimately, it's hard to unravel what still remains of just Steve Rogers underneath the mantel of Captain America. Furthermore, even when he does take issue with the ideals of the country that he's supposed to both protect & represent when he wakes to the 21st century, I think these versions of Steve may struggle with these emerging feelings of dissent towards America because he chose to embody this heroic persona in the first place. So, by renouncing the jingoistic values that Captain America has come to symbolize in the interim while Steve was in the ice, he's not only betraying his duty, but also himself.
And it's not like Steve can ever truly undo his decision to become Captain America. The evidence of that is clear in the fact that his body was bestowed upon him just as much as the shield was. I imagine that Steve struggles to articulate this tension that he feels about being someone who was granted superhuman ability solely because he was trusted to be able to carry out his duty who is now questioning the justness of the very institutions he was originally created to serve. A weapon who is beginning to question the hand that wields it.
I think that for Steve, release from this turmoil feels like being able to exist redirect his body for a purpose that he doesn't have to morally interrogate, or even reflect upon at all past the pleasure that it brings him. He just wants to be temporarily untethered from questions of loyalty vs. righteousness, Steve Rogers vs. Captain America, and he wants not to dwell on when those two sides of himself started to stand in opposition to each other.
The objectification is a familiar burden: after all, being Captain America involves its fair share of objectification. Steve has lost count of the number of military galas and political ceremonies he's been to where he suspects his gracious and grating hosts would have much preferred to parade a red, white, and blue statue around instead. Sometimes he wonders if the army regrets unfreezing him at all, if they wish they had left him stiff and compliant, imprisoning him back in cold storage in the time between annual dinners to honor WW2 vets.
And it's not that Steve doesn't want to let himself go trusting and defenseless in compliance, and he sure wouldn't mind if that lent itself to a stiffness of a more heated nature, either. It's just that his conscious runs even deeper than the serum, and sometimes if he wants to capture that ever more elusive feeling of accomplishment, of conviction, of obedience, than he has to submit to a more extracurricular set of duties.
Having said all that, here is my list of Rob Liefield's Captain America's Top Five Kinks! 🤪😈🫡

THIS!! PEOPLE NEED TO READ THIS AND BE IN AWE
Please I’m begging you it’s only three consecutive one shots but they’re so good for de-serumed Steve fics. No ships. Just sassy, artist, non Captain America Steve that is written so WELL.
Here’s the burb for the series:
Steve Rogers survived the Valkyrie, but the serum had to work overtime to keep him alive in the ice. Captain America never made it out.
And it’s just de-serumed Steve going through the motions and tearing down the Captain America “perfect boy”illusion.
They’re just fun short reads, since first two are less than 2,000 words, and they’ve both sent me! The author probably won’t continue the third one and that’s a bit upsetting. But PLEASE READ IT. It’s a treasure, and I just think people should read it.

i'm back on my "mcu steve was in the darkest timeline because he never experienced the canon event of tony stark giving him a home and a family" bullshit. post-ice steve was isolated, grieving, lonely, going through ptsd and survivor's guilt and he was constantly fixated on how he had no home or family or identity beyond cap. post-ice in the mcu, SHIELD stuck him in the costume and sent him back into the field, reinforcing the idea that he was nothing more than the empty shell of captain america.

"All my life I've tried to find a place for Steve Rogers—but still he lives under the more colorful shadow of Captain America… Perhaps it's Steve Rogers who's the legend—and Captain America who is the reality! Perhaps I was born to be a red-white-and-blue Avenger—and nothing more! But there must be more to life than endless combat! Others have found a home—a family—why can't I? Or, is Steve Rogers destined to walk alone forever—until the final battle—until he walks no more?"

meeting tony and the avengers, creating those friendships and connections, living at the avengers mansion with them, gives steve hope that he can still find happiness and belonging in the present day.
i always found it ironic that in the mcu steve projects this ideal of happiness and domestic life onto tony. this scene in ca:cw is a perfect example of that disconnect between the reality and what steve assumed on the surface was tony achieving what he never could — having a partner, his own family and kids. (the fact that cacw tony is 4 seconds away from a heart attack at all times and too busy running around firefighting PR crises just further drives home the irony.)

and then in a cruel twist of fate, mcu actually gives tony all of these things: home, family, wife and kid. we see steve witnessing tony having these things and knowing it's all possible, but just not for him and not in this era. (and ultimately, tony only gets to have these things for a brief period of time before having to give it all up.)

mcu steve never got to have the experiences that have shaped every other universe's steve rogers. the presence of tony stark, his friendship, his home, his love (whether platonic or romatnic), that formed the foundation of steve's purpose within the avengers, is intrinsic to steve finding hope and happiness in the modern day. the mcu changing such a crucial canon event rewrote not only the core of mcu steve's story but the trajectory of the cinematic universe. and in the end, the writers sent steve back to the past because they believed after 6 movies and 7 years, he had nothing left to live for in the present and i honestly can't think of anything more tragic.
