original request: Hi Brooke! I’ve got a request for you if you like. Not sure if there are topics you don’t write about, so I’m not asking for anything too angsty. But I had this scenario in mind where the Avengers are on a mission, and Spider-man joins them, and something goes astray, causing a car to fly through the air and about to smash our spider boy. Everyone, especially Tony, is panicking when Peter catches the flying vehicle. He puts it aside and fights like nothing happened, stunning the team by showing this strength. The very next day, Tony is still not over how strong Peter is and how he’s hiding it when said teen comes up to him, a flustered look on his face as he has to ask his mentor for help. It turns out whatever Peter needs help with is very mundane, and Tony catches himself adored by the scarily strong bite simply cute kid he managed to get caught up with.

————————————————————————
It was a day like any other, for Peter at least. Lounging around in the Avengers Compound with Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Hulk, and Thor would be bizarre and outlandish for anyone else. Nevertheless, the scene before him was strangely domestic.
Everyone was scattered around the main floor, doing whatever they needed to do. Surprisingly enough, the Avengers hadn’t been called for a mission yet. Peter himself was sitting in the living room, on his phone, waiting for Mr. Stark to be done with whatever important meeting he had today. They were supposed to go to the lab to make some upgrades to both his suit, and his web-shooters.
Suddenly, Natasha races into the room he’s sitting in and tells him, “We were called for a mission. Get ready, we’re leaving soon.” Needing no more information, he jumps up and runs to put on his suit.
Despite not being an official member, he’s a part of the team just like everyone else. Even though he declined the invitation to join, he still goes on missions with them like any other Avenger would.
Furthermore, Peter stays in the Compound with the Avengers whenever he has time. He recently revealed to them that he was Spiderman this whole time, to their dismay. They were appalled to hear that Peter Parker, a 16-year-old boy, was the one behind the mask the whole time. In spite of that, the Avengers didn’t treat him any differently, except for the occasional playful name calling.
————
A couple minutes later, Peter and the rest of the Avengers are suited up and ready to leave. Including Mr. Stark, conveniently enough having finished his meeting just now. Together they travel through the winding alleyways of upstate New York, searching for the unnamed villain they are meant to defeat.
Peter hears him before he sees him. His maniacal laughter was very easy to distinguish. Vulture, he perceives. Peter also knows he’s supposed to be in jail, instead of on the streets of New York. This can’t be anything good…
Peter comes to a stop as he stumbles across him, and the people he has taken hostage.
“Vulture…” Peter starts, “Prison too good for you? Did you need to escape just so you could ruin my day again, and what, put me under another building?” He jokes without much humor.
“Spider-man!” Toomes exclaimed. “What a pleasant surprise! Ah, and you brought friends this time! Too bad they’re a bit preoccupied…”
Peter looks around for the other Avengers, seeing that they’re fighting their own enemies. Peter, unfortunately enough, was left with Toomes. Peter knows he shouldn’t have looked away. He’s been Spider-man for over two years, he should probably have a little more intelligence on the battlefield. He thinks this as he’s crashing through the tall buildings around him.
Toomes is just as strong as he remembers, maybe even stronger. This time around, though, Peter has even more of a handicap. He wants to win against him, but he doesn’t want the hostages he took to die in the process. He ponders this for a quick moment as he’s rising from the toppling building and swinging towards where he hears Toomes’ footsteps. Peter approaches the man with a kick, to which he dodges.
“Hey, Vulture,” Peter calls, “why’d you even escape prison? You know you’re just going to go back eventually, and with a much, much heavier sentence.”
“Not everything has to have a reason, Spider-man. and why would I tell the likes of you, anyway?” The man sneers in response.
“Well… I did save you from dying, even after you tried to kill me yourself.”
“And I repaid that debt by not telling anyone about your true identity, Peter Parker.”
“You’re not doing me any more of a favor by trying to kill me, again.”
Toomes stops in his tracks. “Oh no, Peter. I’m not trying to kill you this time.” He smiles. “I simply want to get back what’s truly mine.”
“…And what would that be?” Peter asks suspiciously.
“My family. You took them away from me. My life was fucking perfect before you came in and ruined it all.” Toomes looks at the boy with nothing but rage and hatred in his gaze.
“Dude, are you seriously still going on about this. I thought we went over this, like, two years ago. I can’t make your family like you again. I’m sorry, I really am.”
“If you were sorry. You wouldn’t have made them hate me in the first place. There is a way that I can be with my family, in peace, again.” Toomes explains.
“What? How would I ever be able to undo the damage you did to yourself?”
“It’s simple, really.” Toomes replied nonchalantly. “Just… go to the police station and tell them… tell them that I’m innocent. That you lied about it all.”
Peter looks at the man in disdain. Does he really think I would do something like that…? “No. Not only would I never lie to protect a criminal like you, but I can’t. There’s concrete evidence that you tried to kill me, and even if I could disprove that, you were selling things on the black market to make money. You did a lot of messed up stuff, Toomes, being in prison for two years isn’t going to make up for that, you know?”
Toomes stares at the boy with a blank expression for a moment, before uttering the words, “Then die.”
Peter barely has time to think as a car flies through the air, looking as if it’s going at the speed of light towards him.
He hears the screams of the Avengers around him, Mr. Stark’s the most distinguishable of them all.
“Kid!” He shouts, terror seeping through his voice. “Hold on, I’m coming…” he says, advancing towards him quickly, but not quickly enough.
Peter wasn’t scared, though. He knew something that the Avengers didn’t. This became evident as the 4,000 pound car came crashing down on him.
The Avengers stood in shock, not moving, not uttering a word. They all had a single thought in their minds, There’s no way he survived that. Even with his superhuman healing abilities, he would be out of commission for a long time.
Just as the Avengers started to proceed towards the possibly flattened Peter Parker, there was a sound coming from where the car hit Peter. The car was creaking and groaning on top of him.
“Is he… lifting the car off of himself?” Steve asked in shock and disbelief.
The car dislodged itself from its place on top of the boy, and Peter lifts it off of himself and places it to the side like it weighs almost nothing. Peter glances at the astounded faces around him with a confused look on his on. “What,” he demands, “why do you all have that look on your face?”
“It’s nothing you need to worry about.” Tony insists as he returns to his battle.
“Okay…” Peter mumbles suspiciously as he returns to his.
———
Peter face-plants on his bed as soon as he returns to the apartment he shares with Aunt May. He recalls the events of that day as he lay in silence.
Eventually, with the help of Mr. Stark, they were able to defeat Toomes (again) and put him back in prison, much to his dismay. He wasn’t expecting Tony Stark to join the fight halfway through, catching him off guard and ultimately leading to his defeat. Peter hopes he won’t escape and return to try and persuade him to help him see his family again. He’s most likely going to end up in a much smaller, much higher security prison.
Peter decides to shoot Mr. Stark a text before dozing off.
Lab tomorrow?
———-
Peter loves the lab. He really, truly does. He hates how he has mountains of homework to do today, though. He decides last minute to just bring his homework with him to the lab, and complete it there before he starts working on anything major.
He arrives at Mr. Stark’s lab to him tinkering with one of his many, many experiments he has been working on. Mr. Stark looks up as he walks in.
“Hey, Pete. What do you have there?” He greets, glancing down at Peter’s chemistry and calculus assignments.
“Homework.” Peter responds simply, sitting down. Then he adds, “It’s my calculus and chemistry homework, my teachers decided to load us up with homework today. I’m going to work on it here, it shouldn’t take me too long.”
“Sounds good,” Mr. Stark states. “I’m going to order some food later, so just tell me what you want whenever you get hungry.”
——-
They sit in silence for a bit, with only the sounds of pencils scratching and tools clacking filling the space between them.
Peter’s headache is starting to get increasingly more prominent. How do you write this formula again..? He asks himself, wanting to take a break, but once he stops he knows he’ll end up getting distracted, never starting again.
Tony glances over to the boy, seeing his furrowed brow and befuddled face and decides to break the peaceful silence.
“Pete,” the boy in question jumps and glances over at Mr. Stark with a questioning gaze. “I can help you with your homework if you need anything. You know that, right?”
“Oh, thanks, Mr. Stark, but I’m fine…” he trails off with a flustered expression on his face.
Tony stares at him with a single raised eyebrow until he caves.
“Okay, okay…” Peter relents. “There’s this formula that I can’t seem to think of that just slipped my mind,”
Tony chuckles quietly as he glances at the boy with superhuman strength in front of him, struggling with math homework. How did I manage to find this kid? He thinks, as the night goes on and the two find comfort in each other company.
