Safe Space- Chris Evansxfemlistener Fic
Safe Space- Chris EvansxfemReader Fic/Fluff-comfort
Tumblr media
Summary: you had an awful day but Chris is always there to keep you safe and warm.
It had been a long day, you had a lot to do, little time, stress and anxiety, which didn't help much to say the least. Specifically today was one of those days when you felt like you were too overwhelmed by your own thoughts and felt down without knowing why; as if your emotional stability was an unpredictable and violent roller coaster. When you finally got home and let go of all the weight you were carrying, you headed to the kitchen to find Chris preparing some dinner while dancing to the rhythm of “uptown girl”. You saw him standing there and couldn't help but run up to him and hug him from behind, hooking your hands over his chest.
“Hey, hi my love, how are you, how was your day...?”-He asked while paying attention to the mix of vegetables he was chopping, pretty much focused on what he was doing, as you tried to find a coherent answer a lump formed in your throat and in spite of parting your lips to pronounce any word, nothing came out and at the moment he noticed you didn´t answered he turned in your direction, pretty much worried by now... -”hey...Are you ok honey?” - he pronounced with his gentle and kind tone. Again, you tried to part your lips to answer, but in a matter of seconds your voice broke completely and suddenly started to cry, feeling the urge to sink in his embrace, sticking your cheek to his back so he wouldn't see you sob- “Hey, hey, what happened honey, don't you feel good?” -. Suddenly he grabbed you by the shoulders and pressed you against his chest knowing that you needed to get everything off your chest first so the both of you could talk more calmed. He held you securely in his arms as he gently caressed the skin of your face with his fingertips and brushed the tears from your eyes and made you feel better. - “Shh, everything is okay sweetheart, breathe”. A few more minutes passed like that until your breathing finally regulated a little.
- Well, now that you are that you can breathe properly, tell me, you´re okay now or maybe you need to sit down and talk about what happened, maybe a couple of cuddles or better have dinner and talk about it later... just tell me how you need my support now love?  - he pronounced as he gently brushed a lock of hair away from your face and gently nudged your cheek with his nose in a playful way that only he knows you pretty much love. -Could you hold me... please- you uttered softly with some regret. Immediately and without another word he pulled you aside for a moment, turned off the stove and immediately carried you in his arms as if you just weighed as much as a bunch of grapes and took the both of you to  the bedroom you shared finally,. He putted you very gently under the blankets and then layed down beside you and pulled you closer to his chest if it was humanly possible. .
-I love you..." with his fingers under your chin he pushed lightly to make you lift your gaze to meet his. -You are my special girl, my princess, the woman of my dreams, the owner of my breath and my every thought. You are the one who gives meaning to my life... and I hope I can be the one who makes you feel safe and loved you as much as you deserve- He left a couple of kisses on my nose and cheeks interrupting the path of my tears. - My priority is to make you feel loved, desired, protected, listened to, reassured.
you snuggle more into his chest if it is still possible; in his arms you felt so small, but at the same time safe. With more security I separate yourself a little from the space between his chest and make a light traverse pressing small kisses from his neck to his lips -You are all I need, you´re my home-.
Closing your eyes again you snuggled back into his arms releasing in a sigh the weight you felt on your chest. you felt him shift a little and let go of the blanket covering me up to your neck. -I'm going to bring dinner and after we eat we can watch any movie you want. - And after a short kiss on the forehead he left the room. This man is definitely the best thing in your life.
When he came back, he left a small table with a hot plate of pasta and a small glass of wine. You two ate dinner in silence, placidly while "Dirty Dancing" was playing on the TV. the both of you finished eating and layed down together with the intention of finishing the movie, but who were you kidding; both fell asleep too soon to even see the end, but to be honest, it's impossible to beat sleep in those conditions: being in the arms of the one you love, the warmth of the blankets, a full stomach and the feeling that you were perfectly alright in his embrace.

Two years ago~
You sat across from your parent's lawyer Andy Barber as he read through the will. Your parents had been dead for about two weeks, and the police wouldn’t tell you much other than it was just a really bad accident and that the investigation was still ongoing. When you were able to see your parents again at the funeral, the two people in those caskets barely even resemble the two faces you grew up with.
“...And finally The Sweet Tooth bakery and the rest of our assets will go to our daughter Y/N.” Andy sighed as he set down the documents on his desk. You’d barely heard anything he’d said the whole time, instead focused on trying to figure out what was next.
Charlotte or “Cherry” as everyone called her gently squeezed your hand pulling you from your trance. She’d been your best friend since third grade, and you’d been through everything together, from first days of school and first periods to first boyfriends and first heartbreaks. Now unfortunately it was this.
“I- Um- How does this work exactly?” You asked making Mr. Barber stroll over to his filing cabinet and pull out some paperwork.
“You’ll sign this paperwork here, and in a few business days the bakery and your parent's assets will be in your name.” He explained passing the pen across to you and pointing to each dotted line, and on each one, you would place the same two letters and at the bottom of each page your signature. “Just give the bank a few days to process everything and you should be set.” He nodded as you and Cherry stood up.
“Thank you, Mr. Barber.” You nodded as you slipped on your jacket.
“Of course, and um- I’m sorry for your loss. Your parents were good people.” He rubbed the back of his neck. You gave a small hum as Cherry smiled politely before exiting his office and into the cold Brooklyn air.
Now~
“Okay but this guy is genuinely a good one!” Cherry argued as you carefully scooped the banana bread batter into the loaf pans before topping them with chocolate chips.
“Didn’t you say that about the last two? AND they turned out to be huge jerks.” You smirked at her dumbfounded expression before wiping your hands on your flour-covered apron.
“Alright yes, I will admit my judgment may have been slightly askew with Tweedledick and Tweedleasshole-” She shrugged taking the loaf pans from you and putting them in the ovens. “But this one isn’t like those two. I met this one this time, he’s Bucky’s best friend and he seems really sweet.”
“Seems and is have two very different meanings, Cherry. Now come on and help me finish up these cupcakes we have an hour until opening.” You chuckled as you grabbed the piping bag filled with orange buttercream frosting.
You could remember being 6 years old and standing at this exact same countertop with your mother behind you helping to guide your hands as you helped her decorate the cupcakes she’d just made. You earned your title of the sprinkle monster after you poured way too many onto one cupcake, your father despite not being one to like sprinkles said it was the best cupcake he’d ever had.
It made you chuckle as now 25-year-old you lightly dusted sprinkles across the now-frosted cupcakes. As Cherry loaded them into the glass display cases by the front counter and you checked over your bread doughs from the night before the bell above the door could be faintly heard.
“We’re closed for another 30 minutes- Oh, hello James.” You deadpanned as Bucky leaned against the counter talking to Cherry who appeared to be a little flustered.
“Hello to you too sour patch.” Bucky nodded, he was wearing a black henley and his brunette hair had been pulled into a bun.
“Buck, tell her! Steve really is not that bad!” Cherry huffed pointing over at you.
“I think you need to make that decision for yourself so how about this, we can do a double date and go to that club over on Flatbush tonight.” Bucky shrugged pushing his hands into the pockets of his jeans.
“That’s a great idea! What do you think Y/N?” Cherry asked, her green eyes sparkled with excitement.
“Fine. What time?” You sighed leaning against the doorframe leading to the kitchen wearing a defeated look.
“9 and we’ll meet the guys there!” Cherry beamed squeezing Bucky’s forearm.
“Okay, James if you’re gonna be here you're gonna have to help.” You said making him shake his head.
“‘Fraid I can’t. I’m running some errands for my boss and thought I’d stop in to say hello.” He explained as he took a chocolate chip cookie from the free cookie jar, and let out a hum of contentment after taking a bite. “Still the best cookies in Brooklyn.” He mumbled kissing Cherry and waving to you before leaving, the bell ringing out again.
Tumblr media
Cherry arrived at your apartment at around 7 to begin getting ready. You opted for a navy blue wrap dress with silver heels while Cherry chose a light pink strapless cocktail dress with gold heels.
“Nervous?” She asked as she wrapped your hair around the curling wand.
“I mean a bit but not really. I'm not expecting this to lead to anything or go anywhere” You shrug looking at Cherry through the mirror.
“Let’s make a deal. If this date is half as bad as you’re expecting it to be then I will never try to set you up with anyone ever again. But if it goes amazingly I expect to be maid of honor at the wedding.” She chuckled.
“Fine. You got yourself a deal.” You nod as she finishes up with your hair.
By the time you were both ready, it was nine in the evening. Cherry grabbed her gold leather clutch, a gift from James, and slipped her lipgloss and phone inside. “Bucky is on his way, he’ll be here in a few minutes. You ready to go?” She asked squeezing your hand, pulling you from whatever world you were in inside your head.
“Oh, uh- Yeah. Just let me grab my phone.” You sighed walking into your bedroom to grab your phone off its charger. Next to it on your nightstand was a picture of you and your parents from two Christmas’ ago. It was the last one you’d celebrated with them, since then you’d opted to celebrate with Cherry and her family.
“Y/N?” Cherry poked her head into the room. “He’s here, you good?” She asked, quirking her brow in concern.
“Yeah, let’s go.” You nod, grabbing your keys and clutch. You’d locked the door to your apartment before slipping your keys into your clutch, together you and Cherry made your way to the elevator, not daring to walk down the building’s steep staircases in heels.
“Well, don’t you two look amazing?” Bucky asked as Cherry climbed into the front seat, and you into the back seat of the Rolls-Royce. The two of them kissed over the center console before James took the car out of park and began to drive through the streets of downtown Brooklyn.
As Bucky and Cherry began to catch up about their days you couldn’t help but stare out the window, your nerves were firing left and right, leaving you to play with the hem of your dress anxiously.
“You okay Sour Patch?” Bucky asked looking through the review mirror, you shrugged your shoulders in response. “You should put sour patch kids in your cupcakes.” He smirked trying to distract you.
“Ew! No!” You scrunched up your nose in disgust. “Maybe as a topping on a vanilla cupcake with my mom's watermelon frosting or strawberry frosting. But inside the cupcake? You’re insane Barnes.” You chuckled as you guys pulled up to the nightclub.
The outside of the building was white, the words ‘Star Spangled Club’ illuminated in red and blue, and the line to get in wrapped almost around the building. Bucky pulled up to the valet, the three of you climbing out. He grabbed onto Cherry’s hand and she grabbed onto yours to get you through the crowd, together you walked up to the bouncer, and James whispered something to him making him step aside and unhook the blue velvet rope to let you three in.
Once inside music played loudly, multicolored lights flashed as the fog machine covered the ground with a dense haze as people flooded the dance floor. The place itself smelled of booze, sweat, and citrus. Bucky directed you and Cherry up a staircase leading you to a more quiet space above the dance floor where the music didn’t play as loudly.
“Steve will be a few minutes. He’s wrapping up a business deal.” Bucky stated as the three of you scooted into a round booth, Cherry between you and him.
You shot them a confused glance as Cherry shook her head. “Shit, sorry I forgot to tell you. He owns the place, and a few other businesses in the city.” She apologized.
“So he’s a CEO of some kind?” You asked Bucky who shrugged.
“Not quite.” He shook his head.
After a few minutes of small talk among you three, a tall man with dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and a thick dark brown beard slid in next to James. He practically took your breath away, the sleeves of his impossibly-tight blue button-up rolled up to his elbows showing off the muscles on his arms and upper back. He offered you a small smile and a nod before turning to Bucky who seemed a bit too interested in sticking his tongue down Cherry’s throat.
He cleared his throat making Bucky pull back and wipe his lips on the back of his hand. “Hey, punk when did you get here?” He smirked, blush creeping up Cherry’s neck and cheeks.
The man who you now assumed was Steve rolled his eyes, a small chuckle escaping his pink lips. “A few minutes ago, though I think you were a bit too occupied to notice. Are they always like this?” Steve asked you, a smile tugging on the corners of his lips.
“All the time.” You laughed quietly, blush making your cheeks feel warm.
“Oh, right! Steve this is Y/N, Y/N this is Steve.” Cherry said gesturing between the two of you.
“Nice to meet you.” He nodded.
“It’s nice to meet you too.” You smiled politely.
“Cherry and I are going to get drinks for everyone so you guys can get to know each other. What do you two want?” Bucky asked as Steve stood up so he and Cherry could slide out.
“Strawberry Daquiri.” You replied.
“Whiskey,” Steve said as he sat back down across from you. You two watched as Bucky squeezed Cherry’s ass cheek before making their way to the stairs.
“They’re definitely gonna go have sex in the bathroom.” You sighed leaning back into the leather cushioning of the booth.
“Or an office.” Steve nodded in agreement making you snicker quietly.
“How long have you and James been friends?” You asked, crossing your legs.
“Since elementary school. I had a thing for picking fights on the playground despite my size, Bucky would tend to end the fights on my behalf.” Steve explained leaning his forearms against the wooden table top.
“Have a thing against staying down?” You asked curiously.
“If you do, they may never let you get back up. How long have you and Charlotte been friends?” He asked, his blue eyes scanning over you.
“Since third grade. She punched the little boy pulling my pigtails, made him lose a tooth. Seems like she and James are a perfect match.” You chortled, and he laughed. That was a sound you could definitely get used to hearing.
“Bucky tells me you own a bakery a few blocks over?” He questioned.
“Ah, yes. Sweet Tooth, I inherited it from my parents.” You explained, looking down at your hands. Dead parents aren’t exactly your favorite first date subject.
“My mom used to get their cupcakes for birthdays, and their pumpkin bread when it was in season.” Steve had a glazed-over look in his eyes before he shook his head and cleared his throat. “I’m sorry about your parents, I get how it feels.” He sighed and you reached for one of his hands which he willingly gave you and gave it a small squeeze. His hand was warm and rough with calluses and a small part of you didn’t want to let go.
“It’s alright. The recipes are still the same if you ever wanna stop by, and it’ll be pumpkin bread season in a few weeks.” You sighed as you let his hand go and pulled it back to your side of the table.
“I may just have to take you up on that.” He smiled. You both locked eyes for a few moments, silence falling between you. He opened his mouth as though he was going to say something but was quickly interrupted by Bucky setting the drinks down on the table.
His shirt was slightly wrinkled and disheveled while Cherry no longer had eyeliner and her hair was slightly frizzed up in the back. You gave Cherry a knowing smirk before Steve got up to let them back into their seats.
“...So? How are things coming along?” Cherry dragged out her words in a giddy manner, her voice a little rough sounding.
You and Steve looked at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter. “Bathroom or office?” Steve asked between giggles.
“Bathrooms were closer,” Bucky grumbled only making you and Steve laugh harder and causing blush to rise up Cherry’s face.
“I’ll take it you two are getting along.” She mumbled taking a sip of her drink.
“Beautifully,” Steve said as you two clinked your glasses together.
As the rest of the night went on you and Steve seemed to be getting along just fine, and eventually it was just the two of you after Cherry and Bucky called it a night. So you two moved down to the pool table that was just below the VIP loft.
“You’re going down Sweets.” Steve teased as you leaned over to hit the cue ball, knocking one of the striped balls into the hole.
“You were saying?” You quirked an eyebrow and rested your hands and chin on the cue stick.
Steve studied the table before lining up his shot and hitting three of the solid-colored balls into the holes in the corner. “Good luck.” He winked, and you swore you felt butterflies erupt in your stomach.
Taking a breath to calm your pounding heart you studied the table, there was no chance of you getting a striped ball into a hole on this turn but you could hit one to nudge it closer. So you stepped slightly to the left of Steve and leaned over to hit the cue ball, just narrowly missing your target. “Shit.” You groaned as Steve smirked to himself.
“So close sweetheart,” Steve said, his hand brushing your upper back before he stood to your right knocking two more balls into the holes. He only had two more balls left before he could start aiming for the eight-ball.
You really had to think this one through, there were striped balls scattered around but if you hit the cue ball just right you could sink 4 of them in one go. So you carefully lined up your shot and hit the ball, making the four striped balls you were aiming for scatter and roll into the corner holes. Now you two were about even.
Steve straightened his stance as he looked over the table. He wouldn't have a clean shot this round, not without sinking one of your balls. “Oh however will he do it?” You teased as he lined up his shot sinking one of his balls and yours.
“Your turn.” He smirked, watching as you leaned down to line up your shot, you watched as the white cue ball smacked onto the last striped ball knocking it into the middle hole. From there you now had an extra turn to attempt to get the 8-ball into a hole. So once again you line up your shot and just narrowly miss the 8-ball.
“And she misses!” Steve teased from behind you making you roll your eyes.
“Alright, Rogers be my guest.” You say, stepping to the side to watch him. Like you he had also sunk his lost ball and was now lining up his shot to attempt to sink the 8-ball which was currently the last ball on the table. You watch as the cue ball smacks against the solid black ball making a crack sound, and it just barely rolled into the hole before stopping just on the edge.
He had set your next turn up perfectly. All you had to do was line up your cue pole just right and you’d have no problem. The second you hit the cue ball and it smacked into the 8-ball it had rolled into the hole and you raised your arms into the air triumphantly.
When you looked back at Steve he was grinning at you. It made your cheeks heat up as you passed him your cue pole. “Good game Sweets.” He nodded, his smile still hadn't fallen.
As you looked around you, the club wasn't nearly as packed as it was when you had arrived. “It's getting pretty late. Do you need a ride home?” Steve asked as he returned from the pole rack.
When you looked into your clutch, you’d realized you’d completely forgotten your wallet in the rush to leave, and that meant you couldn't pay for an Uber home. “Seeing as Cherry and James brought me here, and I forgot my wallet at home… Yeah, if you don't mind.” You sighed looking up at him.
“Of course, just let me go grab my things from my office. You can follow me if you want.” He said, sliding his phone into his back pocket.
You nodded and began to follow him through the last of the lingering crowd and into the employees only door, the hallway was brightly lit and a lot quieter than the dance floor. The bass a dull thud as you two walked side by side in silence. You watched as Steve pulled out his keys and unlocked the big oak door before walking into his office.
Inside was a large dark wooden desk, with two black leather chairs facing it, against the opposite wall was a black leather couch with royal blue throw pillows. Steve walked behind his desk and used his keys again to open one of the drawers where he grabbed his wallet and car keys before closing the drawer again and walking back over to you.
“Ready?” He asked as you two stepped outside of his office. With a nod you guys began the walk back down the hallway. There was no longer any loud music playing meaning they were trying to close for the night. You managed to take a peak at your phone for the time, only to notice it was now two in the morning. Luckily for you Cherry was in charge of opening tomorrow.
As you finally made it to the parking lot, he lead you to a blue Audi A7 and opened the passenger door for you and ushered you inside before shutting the door. Once he got inside and you gave him your address, you guys fell into a comfortable silence as Steve sped through the streets of Brooklyn.
Unfortunately your time together had come to an end as he pulled up to your apartment building, and for the first time after a date you really didn’t want to go and by the looks of it Steve didn’t want this to end either.
“I had a good time.” You whisper looking up into his blue eyes.
“Do you wanna do this again?” He asked, making a smile spread across your lips.
“I would love to.” You exclaimed, a smile tugging on the corner of his lips.
“Friday sound good?” He asked as you nodded rapidly.
“Perfect.” You grinned as you got out of the car.
“I’ll see you then Sweets.” He nodded, watching as you walked through the glass doors of your apartment building before leaving.
Once you got inside, you toed off your heels and hung your keys up on the hook before walking into your room and flopping down on the bed. Cherry was right, which meant she was to be your maid of honor IF you and Steve get married, but it also meant you were so hopelessly screwed.

Stronger Than Steel
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Words: 832
Just a sweet little drabble.
It's part of life, Steve going out on missions, risking his life, and always coming home to you. That doesn't make it any less scary when he's out there, or any less relieving when he returns. Even the strongest of us need to be cared for sometimes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
He could crush steel with his bare hands. You watched the screen in front of you. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, live footage of the Avengers taking on yet another potentially world-ending threat. You weren’t worried about the world. You rarely were anymore. You were worried about your world, wrapped in red, white, and blue, always carrying the weight of everyone else on his shoulders. Breath caught in your throat as he took another hit and refused to budge until he returned the blow with twice the strength.
Lackeys fell like dominos as he moved through them with clinical efficiency. He was hard out there. Your sweet, sensitive lover was almost impossible to find in a man made of pure, polished gold.
The leader of this particular assault, a hulking, alien-looking beast of a man, moved to fire some alien weapon at Natasha but received a shield to the stomach before he could pull the trigger. Steve moved in one, graceful motion. A powerful leap landed him next to the villain, and a twist and pull gave him an improvised weapon, a steel beam he ripped from the wall. Two precise and viscous strikes rendered the big bad unconscious, and Steve turned to his teammates. His jawline was set in stone, his eyes were hard and his grip on his shield harder. Even through the screen you could feel his knuckles turning white.
You stood on the edge of the landing pad, chewing on your thumb nail. With a rush of wind and sound he came back to you, striding out of the jet all harshness and rough edges. He took you into the arms that could snap bone and crumple steel like paper so gently that you knew he would never hurt you. A ghost of a touch to his cheek released the tension in his jaw, and you watched the effects ripple through his body. The captain, your strong soldier, began to melt in your arms.
His shoulders slumped as his forehead came to rest on your shoulder. You brought a hand up and threaded fingers through his hair, you felt him release the tightness from his lungs with a deep, heavy sigh.
“I missed you.” He whispered to your collarbone.
“I missed you too.” You responded to his temple.
He pulled back, a gentle smile now adorned his softened features. The hardness from the screen, the rough edges from the landing all soothed away. Now Steve stood in front of you, your sweet, kind, soft Steve, sweaty and exhausted, melting in your hands, refusing to pull away from your touch.
“Let’s get you in a shower. You smell like shit.” The words began as a whisper but tumbled out with a giggle as you traced his jaw with your fingers. He simply chuckled and took your hand, your Captain giving you permission to take the lead.
He let you guide him through the hallways and corridors of the compound. He followed obediently, barely paying attention to where he was going, knowing he didn’t need to. He let you pull him along, trusting you completely to always bring him home.
He stepped out of a steaming shower with now much more relaxed muscles to find you on the couch, one of his shirts hanging too large on your frame. A bowl of popcorn and a bag of chocolates sat on the coffee table alongside two steaming mugs of tea. His lips spread into a broad smile, and he settled down next to you, kicking his legs up onto the couch and pulling you into his broad, solid chest.
“How ya doing, big guy?” You asked softly. He nestled you closer to him and pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
“‘M alright. Wasn’t a bad one today.”
“Still looked pretty scary.”
“Eh. I’ve seen much worse.”
“Ok well I’m always scared.” You said with a sigh. He pulled you away and looked into your eyes.
“You never have to be scared. I promise you, nothing in this world or any other could ever stop me from coming home to you.”
“Steve. You can’t promise that. There’s no way to know what will happen.”
“No.” His eyes were determined and his jaw set. “I will always come home to you.” He broke eye contact in a moment of uncharacteristic sheepishness. It was cute. He found your eyes again, even more determined than before. “I love you, Y/N, and I always will. And nothing will keep me from coming home to my girl.”
“I love you too Steve.” Your heart swelled and you kissed him quickly and gently, “plus if you ever don’t come back to me, I’m heading out there and dragging you back myself. I don’t care what crazy, superpowered maniacs I have to fight through, I’ll do it, I swear.”
His laughter resonated through your entire body and he shook his head. “Yes Ma’am” He whispered before bringing your lips to his one more time.

✨Pairing✨: senator!Steve Rogersxblack!reader
Summary🪄: Incumbent Senator Steve Rogers is in the midst of his re-election campaign when he meets you, the beautiful stranger who could cost him the position he worked so hard for.
A|N🎙: This new series I thought of is gonna be a mix of Burlesque and Main in Manhattan (probably reminiscent of Pretty Woman a bit as well), and I’m super excited to share it with you guys✨! As usual, warnings will be provided with each part, and I hope you guys enjoy☺️! Yes I have other series I probably need to work on (and will once I get the inspo to!), please don’t judge lol
*Disclaimer: the collage (although probably trash lol) was made by me, but I DO NOT own the pictures in the collage as they were all found on Pinterest
-Prologue
You’re frozen on stage meeting the cerulean gaze you’ve come to know all too well. A look that was usually filled with love and adoration now replaced with pure confusion and shock. He knew you performed, but the idea of it being like this never crossed his mind.
Scantily clad in your rhinestone covered bodysuit that showed enough of your cleavage to make any man drool and hardly covered your bottom, he can’t help but stare just as all the men, and some women, in the room were earlier. Whistling and cheering as you seductively shimmied and twirled somehow making sure each pair of eyes received your attention as if the dance was personally for them.
His stare grows too much for you though, needing to run backstage. The curtain immediately closing as your heels hurriedly clack away, sensing something had to be off at your sudden pause.
“Y/N what’s wrong?,” “What’d you see?,” the girls you’d usually confide in ask wanting to be there for you just as they always were. You say nothing though, ignoring them as you rush past the brightly lit vanities littered with scattered makeup and brushes to the back lounge only available to staff.
It’s instant the way your tears flow as soon as you lock the door behind you. Your head already starting to throb with your quiet sobs and mascara streaking your once flawless beat.
He wasn’t supposed to find out this way.
You planned to tell him when his campaign was over within the confines of your apartment. Answer any questions you were sure he’d have and even brace yourself for the heartbreak that might come after. You’d already had relationships fail because of your occupation, and with him being in such a public and highly esteemed position, him wanting nothing to do with you and possibly being disgusted was definitely an outcome that crossed your mind plenty of times.
Sat on the velvet love seat, there’s more commotion outside than usual prompting you to stride to the window to find paparazzi and separate news crews crowded along the double doors at the entrance. Each trying to sweet talk and bribe their way past Big Joe standing firmly in front of the doors. You didn’t have to see his face to know he was irritated and rolling his eyes behind those dark shades he always wore.
The vibrations from your phone break through the silent room and cause the pace of your heart to quicken again. Luckily it’s just your roommate and not Steve, but what’s included in his messages doesn’t help ease your worries.
You ok? Some of the girls are texting me worried about you. What happened? (sent 9:40 pm)
Cmon text me mamas, I know you’re off stage. I’m getting even more worried (sent 9:43 pm)
*attached link* Omg how the hell did they find out?!! I swear on my grandmother I didn’t tell (sent 9:46 pm)
Senator Steve Rogers isn’t so squeaky clean as once thought! The current favorite in the senate race was seen entering the infamous Escapist’s Lair, where it seems a particular fantasy girl caught his eye. After further research, we found this to be, in fact, the same girl pictured attached to the politician’s hip at the Peace Gala last month! Seems as if the straight and narrow Rogers has been trying to make his fantasies reality *insert winky emoji, smirking emoji…eggplant emoji*. More info to come later ladies and gents!
You knew it was only a matter of time before news spread, which also meant his team was currently working overtime trying to fix your mess.
“Y/N,” Steve gently knocks at the door making your palms sweaty. Part of you just wants to stay quiet letting him believe you’re no longer in the building so you don’t have to face the eminent fury boiling inside of him. Given you’ve never seen him angry, he’s never even raised his voice at you, but your mother always warned you that those seemingly the calmest could have the worst rage.
She’d experienced it firsthand before you were even thought of with a man she was glad didn’t become your father.
“I know you’re in there. Just please open up.”
You’re afraid of the consequences from him having to ask you twice, so your legs are moving—albeit slow—to unlock the door. Widening it just enough that the lounge’s chandelier casts a glowing beam right down the middle of his face. His deep blue eyes still maintaining their usual softness and beard neatly trimmed as always standing in his dark blue suit and white button down.
“Honey please don’t cry.” He was still trying to comfort you even though his career was being burned and flushed down the toilet as the seconds passed. You didn’t deserve him.
“Steve you need to go,” you whisper. “News is already out you’re here.” His foot blocks you from closing the door again with a light thud. He desperately wished his arm could squeeze through too so he could wipe your tears or hold your hand even. Anything to calm you down.
“Wait, what is all this? You’ve been lying to me?”
“No..well..n-not exactly-,”
“Then tell me what’s going on.”
Sighing, you finally open the door wide enough so he can step through before locking it behind him. Neither of you needed more prying ears and eyes on your private conversation right now.
Back pressed against the cold, worn hardwood, there’s nothing but silence and your heartbeat in your ears as you both peer at each other. Steve eagerly waiting for your words with hopeful eyes.
“As you see I am a performer,” you start, “just…not at your usual lounge.”

Within the Ashes (2/??)
Summary: You’ve spent your life working for someone else. You watch their back, you protect them, but you’re left feeling empty and unfulfilled at the end of the day. What happens when a freak accident transports you to a different dimension, very nearly identical to your own?
A/N: Hi guys! Chapter two is here and it’s time to learn more about the reader and what’s happened to them. If you’re squeamish about burns/injury, please please please read the warnings. I didn’t hold back with the Ick with the reader’s burns and I don’t want you to either read something that’ll make you feel sick or uncomfortable. That said, please enjoy!

“Are they actually alive?” Tony asks.
Steve inches closer and faintly hears the body whimper.
“For now.”
“Christ, that’s gotta be painful.”
“We need to get them to medical.”
“They could be trying to kill us.”
“They can’t do much of anything right now, Tony.”
Tony rolls his eyes and gestures to a set of drawers. “Third down, there’s fresh sheets. Grab one.”
“You keep sheets in the lab?”
“Sheets, drop cloths, same thing at the end of the day. Doesn’t matter, just grab one.”
Steve does as he’s told and they work together to bundle the body up in the soft fabric. The pink-ish ooze of freshly healing burns immediately soaks into the sheet anywhere it touches the wounds. Steve only notices when he scoops them up in his arms. He frowns and turns to Tony.
“Does it look like they’re healing?”
“What?”
“It looks like they’re healing, Tony.” Steve pulls back a corner of the sheet to reveal their shoulder. “That’s not what fresh burns look like. Especially ones this bad.”
Tony’s expression is a mix of disgust and fascination as his eyes flit over the body. The burns on their shoulder slowly, very slowly, skin over with a milky white ooze that could easily be mistaken for infection. It’s not yellow enough, though. Whoever this person is, they heal inhumanly fast.
All Tony says is, “They’re probably in a lot of pain.”
Steve nods and hurries out into the hall, unmoving body clutched to his chest. Tony follows close behind, issuing commands for F.R.I.D.A.Y. to pass along to their medical team.
Steve barely has one foot in the door before someone whisks the body away and someone else places their hand squarely on his chest to stop his momentum. He tries to protest, but his arms are already empty.
“We’ll take it from here, Captain,” they say. “If they heal as fast as Mr. Stark says, we have to move quickly to ensure they’re not permanently stuck in the fetal position.”
Steve nods numbly. “Alright.”
“Any updates we have, you’ll be the first to know.”
“Ah-thank you.”
They nod and quickly move to the bed where the body was placed moments ago. The medical team begins moving their limbs and Steve can’t hear his eyes away out of morbid fascination with the sight. Only when they whimper again does he remember what he’s watching. He averts his eyes and turns back out into the hallway. Tony’s leaning against the wall to Steve’s right, tapping away on his phone.
“They’re in good hands, Steve,” he says. “They’ll heal before you know it and we’ll get our answers.”
“I’d hate to be them right now.”
“Any sane person would be.” Tony pushes off the wall and walks off down the hall. “Lemme know if there are any changes.”
Steve scrubs his hands over his face and slowly walks back to his office.
Tumblr media
(Y/N) doesn’t know where she is. Can’t really move her limbs or open her eyes. She’s tired enough that she doesn’t really want to try. She does know she’s in a hospital of some kind. There’s the distant, pulsing beep of a heart monitor and she can occasionally hear the sounds of pen scratching on paper.
The bed she’s lying on is anything but soft and the sheets make her itch all over. She’s cold, initially, but she’s not awake enough at any given time to complain anyway.
Eventually, when she finally feels herself coming back to her body, she’s moved to a different bed. A smooth garment is slipped onto her body and she’s placed on top of sheets significantly softer than before. She’s still sore and pain occasionally flares up around particularly tender areas, especially where her skin is thinnest, but she finds that she’s more comfortable. It’s easier to let herself rest.
When she can finally open her eyes, it’s not for very long. Staying awake takes too much energy. She rolls over, ignores the way her left arm won’t move and the pressure around that wrist, and goes back to sleep. She can worry about it when she’s more lucid and the steadily growing pressure behind her eyes dissipates.
Unfortunately, she wakes up with a pounding headache and something about the bright, buzzing fluorescent lights only serves to make it worse. So, she attempts to cover her eyes with her left arm, only to be stopped short. (Y/N) frowns and tugs against the resistance on her arm. Same distance, but it's followed by a feeble, metallic rattle. Her frown deepens and she cracks one eye to investigate while rubbing the other with her free hand.
She finds her left hand bound at the wrist to the hospital bed railing with a length of gray fabric. The material has very little give and the knots at either end are tied well. Even knowing this she tries to pull at the loop around her wrist. She puts a little extra strength behind it. Even so, unsurprisingly, it does nothing.
"Huh."
She's looking a little too closely at the knot at her wrist and thinking about using her teeth on it when a man appears at the foot of the bed. Startled, she jumps and accidentally smacks herself in the face with her left hand. She makes a small noise of disappointment and rubs at the point of impact.
“Sorry,” the man says. “Did I startle you?”
“A little,” she mumbles.
“I need to ask you a few questions.”
(Y/N) watches him fold his arms across his chest and wishes she could poke his biceps. She might have super strength, but she’s never had the resting muscle definition to prove it. Johnny always teases her for staring at Jen Walters for a little too long. She sighs and briefly wonders if he knows where she is.
“Miss?”
“What? Sorry. I’m a little spacy.” She moves to run her hand over her hair, but only finds the stubbly peach fuzz of regrowth. “Weird.”
“With the state you were in when you showed up, I’d say you’re lucky to even have hair.”
“Was it really that bad?”
“It was pretty grotesque.”
“Oh. Sorry.” (Y/N) clears her throat and sits herself up. “You have questions?”
“Right.” He squares his shoulders. (Y/N) thinks it’s to make him more intimidating. It doesn’t work. “Who sent you?”
“Sorry?”
“You appeared out of thin air in our lab. It’s hard to believe that would just randomly happen. So, who sent you?”
(Y/N) shakes her head. “No one.”
“I don’t believe you. So I’ll ask again; why are you here?”
“Okay, well I don’t know where here is, so you have me at a distinct disadvantage.”
“You don’t know where you are?”
“No.”
“Where did you plan to be?”
“At home, in my bed, reading a book.” She looks around the room. “Where am I?”
“Avengers tower.”
“Tower?” Confused, she frowns. “I thought the Avengers operated out of a mansion somewhere in the city.”
“What mansion?”
“Y’know, that posh mansion with a bunch of floors below the ground that too many people know how to get to.” The man doesn’t give any indication that he does, in fact, know. “Tony Stark funds everything? Captain America is the figurehead?”
“Sounds right, but the location is wrong.”
“How would you know?”
“Because I’m Captain America.”
The corner of her mouth quirks up. “No you’re not.” The man raises one eyebrow. “Are you?”
“I am.”
“But you’re so…” Handsome, soft, almost approachable, her brain supplies. “And he’s so righteous, buzzcut, quarterback.” Her eyes go wide with realization and her hand flies to her mouth. “Oh God, Reed. What’d you do?”
Had Reed’s transport actually worked? Even with chunks flying off, even after exploding, had it sent her to a different dimension? It seems like that’s what happened. This man claims to be Steve Rogers, but he doesn’t look like the Captain she knows. Well, that’s not entirely true. He does look like her Steve Rogers, but not enough for her to think they’re the same person. But who’s to say anyone’s equivalent in a different reality would match them perfectly?
“Who’s Reed?”
“My boss. Reed Richards.”
“Am I supposed to know who that is?”
“You don’t know him?”
“Can’t say that I do.”
“He’s lauded as one of the smartest humans on the planet. Right up there with Stark and Banner.” The Captain just shakes his head. “What about the Fantastic Four? Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, Human Torch, the Thing?”
“They don’t sound familiar, no.”
She presses the heels of her hands to her eyes. “I must sound like a lunatic.”
“Yes, you do.” A man with dark hair and perfectly groomed facial hair strides into the room. “But I have heard of Richards, and I’m particularly offended that you’d compare the two of us.”
(Y/N) would know that goatee anywhere, but the face is wrong. “You’re-”
“Tony Stark.”
She nods. “Right.”
“Why don’t you explain what’s going on here.”
(Y/N) presses her fingers to her temple. “I’m Reed’s lab assistant. He’s been working on interdimensional transportation for months now and finally settled on something he was sure would work a few days ago, but when we went to tests, the entire thing malfunctioned. Thing literally blew up. From what I can remember, I was caught in the blast. Now I’m here.”
“Hilarious. Tell the truth.”
“I am.”
“That technology doesn’t exist yet. Not to mention the fact that your entire body was one massive third degree burn. Yet you’ve miraculously healed. Explain.”
“I have a healing factor that’s just a smidge weaker than Wolverine’s. I wouldn’t survive a nuclear blast, but full body third degree burns are manageable, I guess.”
“Wolverine?”
“Nigh unto immortal Mutant? Legendary X-Man?” Both Rogers and Stark shake their heads. “Seriously? He’s been alive since before the civil war.”
“Doesn’t ring any bells.”
“Great, you don’t have the X-Men.” She drags her hand over what little hair has grown back. “The only explanation I can come up with, and I apologize for my limited knowledge, I’m just the muscle, is that I was transported to a universe or reality adjacent to mine. Which… would only serve to prove Reed’s theory about a multiverse.”
“Seriously? A multiverse?”
“I don’t know, ask Doctor Strange. I’m not an expert by any means, but I know that this is one of the many intersections of science and magic.” She pauses. “Stephen Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme here, right?”
“He might be.”
“Okay.” She nods, mostly to herself. “Okay.”
“What’s your name?” Rogers asks.
“(Y/N).”
“Last name?”
“(Y/L/N),” she answers. “There might be another me in this reality, but I don’t know how closely realities mimic each other, so… who knows.”
Rogers hums and turns to look at Stark, who just shrugs and says he’ll look into it. He then leaves with the promise of contacting Strange and (Y/N) is suddenly alone with Rogers.
“I’m sorry,” she says. “I know this is a lot for all of you to deal with.”
“It’s fine.”
“Okay.” She bites her lip. “How long was I out for?”
“About four days.”
“Oh shit. That’s way longer than I’ve been down in the past.”
“You were barely recognizable as a human being when you appeared. I think that gives you a pass on healing a little slower than usual.”
“Mm, you’re probably right.” Rogers nods absentmindedly. “Wild question; could you untie me?”
“Hm?”
“Could you untie me?” she repeats. “I know it’s for everyone’s safety, but I'm not going anywhere, and I’m pretty sure I’ll accidentally break the railing if I fall asleep like this again.”
"It's pretty sturdy."
"Could you break this pretty sturdy railing?"
"We'll, yeah-"
"Then I'd be able to break it." He raises his eyebrows and she gestures to herself. "Pretty-sturdy-railing will meet pretty-strong-burn-victim, and the burn victim will win."
“So you heal quickly and you’re super strong?”
"Yes, exactly."
"How?"
(Y/N) shrugs. "Luck of the draw, I guess. I mean, how does anyone get their powers, if not by chance?"
"In my experience, through a lot of scientific experimentation."
“Mm, I guess so. You said you don’t know about the X-Men, right?”
“Right.”
“Hm, then I guess you don’t really have anyone who’s genetically predisposed to having powers, then.”
"Maybe we do and we just haven't met them yet."
"Maybe." She stifles a yawn. "The government likes to beat back anyone they see as a threat with a stick, so I wouldn't blame anyone for hiding their powers."
"They do that where you're from?"
"Mhm." Rogers quietly approaches and unties the knot around (Y/N)'s wrist in one smooth motion. "Thank you. It's cyclical, sometimes."
"Can't say it's much different here." (Y/N) yawns again and tries to sit up a little straighter. “You should get some rest.”
She shakes her head and absentmindedly rubs her left wrist. “I’m sure you have more questions.”
“Nothing that can’t wait till tomorrow.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course.” He pats her shoulder and heads for the door. “I’ll make sure some food is sent up for you.”
“Thank you, Captain Rogers.”
He nods and disappears into the hallway.

Alrighty, so the reader character isn’t dead, huzzah! But now they’re stuck in an alternate reality. Could this prove to be a Bad Thing? Or maybe it’s just a brand new adventure. You’ll have to tune in next time to find out.
As always, I’d love to know what you thought of this chapter! Are you surprised by how careful Steve was with the Body? How do you feel about the Reader character being tied to their hospital bed? Was Steve as intimidating as he thought he was? Be sure to reblog, comment, and/or shoot me an ask and tell me all about it!

Steve knew this was terrible but he hated this lesson in the curriculum. That and it was a freshman class so there was always snickering and, god help, boners. He was in the middle of setting the small stage up with the long couch when there was a knock on the door. It was too early for any of the students to show up so it had to be the model.
“I’m coming,” he called to the door, walking over to open it up. “Come on…in.”
His eyes trailed up from your exposed belly to the crop top until he got to your smirking face. “You must be Professor Rogers,” you say sweetly, leaning against the doorframe.
“Venus?” he asked, stepping aside when you took the first few steps into the room. Your heels clicked smartly on the tile floor as you crossed to the little stage. “What are you doing here?”
You looked over your shoulder with a coy grin. “I’m the nude model for your class, of course.”
Steve’s brain fritzed out for a good thirty seconds before he was able to reboot. “Why?”
“I mean, I’m a stripper so what better person to model?” you laughed, putting down the large bag you brought. “I hope you don’t mind but I brought my own things to help.”
The blond professor’s mouth opened and closed as you brought out a few pillows and a blanket to layer on the couch. “Class starts in fifteen minutes so you’ve got plenty of time to-” he snapped his mouth closed when you easily dropped the flowy skirt to the stage floor. “Venus!”
You laugh brightly, snapping the side of your panties playfully. “What? I’m supposed to be completely naked, Professor, does that…bother you?” you smile, looking over your shoulder only to see the man’s back. “I mean, if I’m not pretty enough then I can always go.”
“No! That’s not what I-damn it,” he mutters, turning around to look everywhere but the lower half of your body. “You’re gorgeous, Venus, and I know that you know that so stop playing. I just didn’t expect it to be someone…I knew.”
There was a lot to unpack with the way he said those last two words but the intensity in his blue eyes was enough to send a tingle of anticipation down your spine. “You think I’m gorgeous?” you asked as you stepped down off the stage right in front of the man. His cheeks were ruddy with flush and it was going down into the pale skin of his neck. You lean down to be more on his level, giving a devious smirk. “Wait until the rest of the clothing is gone.”
He swallowed thickly but before he could say anything, early students started filing into the room. Steve turned to address the class while you took the time to get fully undressed. The couch was actually quite comfortable so the pillows you brought made it good enough to spend a long time on. You could feel the tension in the room as more students arrived but you only had eyes for one person.
Steve made it a point to keep from looking at you, which made this all the more fun. The professor was quite stoic as he went through the assignment to the class. You were impressed that his voice didn’t shake or waver but, then again, he had his back to you and there was still a hint of that pretty red on his neck. Once the instructions were over, the class began drawing.
You watched the small professor move around the room, commenting on small details and pointing out flaws. His voice was easy, gentle and he gave his critique with such a sweet face that it made you smile. He took over again once the initial sketch was done, talking about how to add your curves and other feminine features.
It made you happy to know that no matter where he looked, you were all he could see. It made his face tight as he tried to keep that sweet smile on his face. It was obviously torture for the man. You bet the hour-long class would feel like a thousand years, having to watch his students’ drawings slowly start to form into you.
To his credit, he did very well until about 45 minutes into the lesson when it was clear that he wasn’t going to be able to find a space in the room that didn’t include your likeness in multiple different styles. It didn’t change the fact that it was you and he obviously found you quite captivating. You watched him the entire time, ignoring all other people in the room to just wait for the moment he looked at you.
It was about five minutes until the end of class, when those blue eyes finally looked up. You expected to be a little flirty, maybe shift just enough to make your tits bounce or run your hand down the supple curve of your hip but…you didn’t. You…couldn’t. The intensity behind his eyes stuck you to the spot and it made you feel both nervous and unreasonably excited all at the same time. Without much thought, your thighs tightened just enough for those blue eyes to flick down then back to your face.
“And that’s time, everyone!” he said, completely breaking whatever spell he had cast upon you in an instant. “Please place your easels back in their designated spots. We will continue coloring and shading next time.”
The room emptied, some of the students taking one more peek at you before the door was closed behind the professor. “That was a lot of fun!” you smiled, draping your legs off of the couch and stretching. You liked that dark look he gave you a second ago and wondered how much it would take to push him to do it again. “I can’t wait to do it next time!”
He looked like he had a million things to say but ended up sighing heavily. “Seriously, Venus, why are you here? To toy with me?” he asked, taking a few steps forward until he was within reaching distance. He was either used to the nudity or had forgotten altogether at this point.
A lot of your bravado and confidence slips a little and you give a small, sheepish smile. The expression stops him dead in his tracks, obviously something he hadn’t seen from you. “I...very much enjoyed our conversation and I...was wondering if I could...I mean if we could...go out for coffee or something?” you asked slowly, having a hard time keeping eye contact. He had no such issues and it was intimidating the way he was able to stare into your soul with those pretty baby blues.
There’s a bit of disbelief on his face as he studies your expression. You were sure he was thinking of all the times women had been dared to ask him out as a prank. “I’m serious, Steve,” you blurt, reaching out to take his hand. It was surprisingly strong and calloused as you stroked the back with your thumb. “I...I didn’t want our time to end last time. I figured...I’ve let so many opportunities pass me by that...I didn’t want to let this one go too. I know my job is…”
“No, no, stop,” he said, shaking his head. “It’s not about your job, really, it’s just...I’m so plain and you’re so…”
You felt your face heat at the look of admiration in his eyes. “So what?” you coax selfishly. So many people complimented your looks at your job but Steve was different. He only said things that were genuinely true to an almost blunt level. “Go ahead, woo me with your poetic words, Professor.”
“Beauty is only skin deep. If you go after someone just because she's beautiful but don't have anything to talk about, it's going to get boring fast. You want to look beyond the surface and see if you can have fun or if you have anything in common with this person,” he quotes, lifting your hand to kiss the ridges of your knuckles lightly. His blue eyes glistened with a mixture of teasing and awe. A mixture that was slowly becoming like booze to an alcoholic: Addictive. “Amanda Peet said that.”
You found your voice after a second so that you could awkwardly breathe out, “I loved her in Identity.”
Steve’s lined smile spreads quickly at your understanding. “That was a pretty good movie. You know, before the whole...DID thing became a trope.”
“So...is that a yes...to coffee?” you ask, feeling silly for how drawn to his lips you were in that moment.
Steve looked at the watch on his thin wrist. “Actually, I could use some lunch,” he said, squeezing your hand lightly. “Do you care?”
You felt light and excitement burst through your entire body. “Sure, that sounds lovely!” you smile, giddiness making you light headed. It was only slightly a challenge to get your clothing back on while so excited. “Do you still have classes?”
Steve walked away to grab his things behind the desk at the front of the classroom. “I teach a night class but that’s not until much later. I assume dinner is off the table? You work late.”
You walk over, heels clicking smartly on the tile. “I’m off for the next three days,” you say, leaning against the desk casually. “I usually sleep most of the afternoon. I’ve always been a night owl even before I started dancing.”
Throwing the straps of his bag over his shoulders, Steve walked over to open the door for you. “Well, how about we catch a movie tonight? I don’t have any early morning classes so I could stay up a bit later.”
You follow after him, brushing lightly against him as you exited the room into the bright, sunlit hallway. The large windows illuminated the hallway more than any lights could at this part of the day. You turned with just enough time to catch Steve staring at your illuminated form.
“I’m not much for movie theaters but...we could watch a movie at my house, if you want,” you smile, feeling a little embarrassed by his admiration.
“Are you comfortable with that?” he asked, gesturing towards the hallway so the two of you could walk to the elevator. “I mean...I don’t mind! I just...it’s your space.”
He hits the button before you can do anything. “I wouldn’t have invited you if I were uncomfortable, Steve,” you laugh gently, aware of the passing students' stares. It was something you had grown accustomed to, at least, enough for it to be only mildly annoying. “I’ll let you know if I change my mind, okay?”
He seemed relieved as the two of you entered the elevator. “Okay, as long as you’re comfortable.”
He took you to a little bistro a block away. It was a hole-in-the-wall, mom-and-pop kind of place that was casually busy at this time of day. It smelt heavenly as you stepped through the door, which Steve opened because of course he did, and you took a second to inhale deeply the scents of homemade bread, coffee and pastries. The cozy seating area had overstuffed leather couches and artwork all over the walls.
“Come on,” Steve clears his throat, pressing a hand to the small of your back. You allowed the man to guide you away from the door, enjoying the heat that radiated through your clothing from his palm. “They have the best panini this side of New York.”
A sweet matronly woman stepped up to the counter. She had graying hair that was pulled up into a loose bun and a face full of lines from laughter. “Professor Rogers, what a surprise! You’re usually so predictable with your Wednesday visits!” the woman said, wiping her hands off on the frilly apron with a fall floral pattern. Her kind eyes looked at you and the grin that split her face was one of mischief and excitement. “And who have you brought with you?”
Steve cleared his throat, the tips of his ears flushed where they peeked from his blond hair. “Aunt May, this is Venus,” he introduced slowly. “She’s never been here before so I figured I’d bring her out.”
“Venus,” the woman said, testing the name out on her lips. “Your parents were spot on in naming you, weren’t they, sweetheart?”
You laughed, offering a hand. “They set me up for success that’s for sure. It’s a pleasure to meet you, May.”
Her grip was surprisingly firm when she shook your hand. “Please, call me Aunt May, everyone in the neighborhood does.”
“Of course,” you chuckled, looking at the menu. “Steve said your panini can't be beat so let me get the panini of the day and...oh! Is the baklava latte good?”
“Honey, it’s to die for,” Aunt May said with a confident smirk. “My nephew came up with that one. It’s the perfect latte for fall.”
“Well, then I have to try it! I’ll take a large with an extra shot of espresso,” you respond, reaching into your pocket for your billfold.
Steve’s hand wraps around your wrist before you could place the card on the table. “No, absolutely not,” he laughed, placing his own card on the counter. “She’s not allowed to pay for anything, Aunt May.”
You feel your face flush with warmth. “Please, Steve, I invited you. I had every intention of paying.”
Aunt May laughed while swiping his card. “Best not to argue, dear, he’s stubborn as a bull when it comes to things like this. Just thank him and go find a seat. I’ll bring out the food soon.”
Stumbling over a weak argument, you find his hand at the small of your back as he leads you to a corner table with the only cloth chairs in the room. He pulls yours away from the table, taking your hand to help you sit down. “Steve, please, I-”
“You’re not used to people taking care of you, huh?” he asked, making you snap your mouth shut with the click of your teeth. He smiled sweetly, leaning back in his own chair to get comfortable. “I know you could pay, Venus, but I figured...if I wanted to consider this a date...I’d better pay.”
Date. The word struck your gut so hard that you couldn’t breathe for a few seconds. Of course, that’s what you wanted out of this but...you weren’t sure if he would. It was stupid of you, of course, but you hadn’t dated in a long time.
“No,” you admit after a moment of thought. “Truth be told, I haven’t dated in a really long time.”
He smiles sadly, “Yeah, me too.”
Not self imposed, you assumed. The reason you refused to date was because of the last committed relationship you were in nearly a decade ago. You had plenty of offers because, let’s be honest, you weren’t lacking in beauty but it was all skin deep. No, Steve didn’t date because...he wasn’t appealing physically. Bony, frail and short, he was obviously way below the standards of many women in the world.
But, as you looked at him, you couldn’t help but like him. It wasn’t his appearance but that had never mattered to you. Personality and conversation were so much more important than muscles or beauty. You wanted to connect with someone who could make you happy and muscles couldn’t do that.
“I like you, Steve,” you blurted out, not realizing for a moment that you had said it outloud instead of keeping the thought to yourself. His head snapped towards you, shock crossing his face and making embarrassment flood your system. “I’m sorry, I-I’m not sure where that came from.”
“Why?” he asked, ignoring your embarrassment. “Why do you like me?”
The two of you pause when May brings over your coffee and food. “Enjoy!” she said, making herself scarce.
You took a sip of your coffee, ignoring the burn for the second of silence. “People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within,” you say slowly, smiling at the man. “One of my favorite psychologists, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said that and I guess it fits here. I guess, you shine in both the light and the dark. You’re...a wonderful person all around. Even if we didn’t click romantically...I decided you were someone I wanted to know.”
His face softened a little, obviously very touched. “I...I enjoyed talking to you too. I just...wasn’t sure how to get in touch with you...you know, without going back to your job.”
“Well, good thing you told me where you worked, huh?” you laugh, sipping at your coffee.
The two of you spend the next two hours eating, talking and laughing. Time, truthfully, flies by without you even realizing it. You enjoy talking to him about art, history and so many other topics that you never really get to explore anymore. It warms your heart when he laughs and when he gets passionate about something.
“Oh shit,” you laugh, looking at your phone for the first time in two hours. “I need to get home and go to sleep so I don’t throw off my schedule!”
He stands up to help you clean the dishes. It’s once the two of you are standing outside that you hesitate. “Thank you,” he blurted out before you could say anything. “I really enjoyed this.”
You felt giddy. “I did too, Steve. This has been...so nice. Are we still on for a movie at my place tonight? I’ll make some pizza for us if you like.”
“Sounds great,” he sighed, looking at a loss for a moment. “Here, let me give you my number so you can text me your address.”
The two of you exchange numbers then stand there without moving. “Can I...hug you?” you ask, feeling like your insides were going to shake right out of your body.
“Yes,” he breathes, stepping forward to wrap you up in his arms. You hug him tightly, feeling all of his bony edges pressing into your supple curves. He is warm and sturdy even with his frail body.
The two of you hesitantly part. “I’ll send you a text when I’m ready with my address.”
“Sounds great,” he smiled, turning to leave. “See you soon.”
“You too,” you whisper, watching him walk away for a few seconds before turning and heading back to your apartment.
Sleep was a hopeless endeavor, truthfully. You laid there in a giddy haze of happiness and excitement. After a few hours of tossing and turning and time on your phone, you finally threw yourself out of bed to get ready. You took a long shower and groomed yourself until you felt like a new person.
You were going through your dresser for something to wear when your phone went off. Looking, you felt your heart soar when you saw it was a text from Steve.
Hey, I know you’re probably just getting up but I wanted to ask what I should wear. Is casual fine?
The bubbling of giddy excitement made you nearly squeal, which, in turn, embarrassed the shit out of you. It was a simple enough text message. Why were you so fucking-didn’t matter. You needed to respond.
I was just going to wear pajamas. I don’t mind if you do too.
You quickly sent the text and flopped onto the bed waiting for the answer. It didn’t take long.
Pajamas, pizza and movies on our second date? Sounds like my kind of date!
It was stupid how happy you felt. You hadn’t been this hopeful in a long time. It felt good to be excited about something.
Great, come by around 10?
You also sent him your address before you forgot. Standing back up, you go over to the drawers to pull open the top one. Pajamas were your fucking jam seeing as you were in uncomfortable heels and underwear most of the time. You decided on a silky floral set. You debated on wearing a bra because it would be pretty obvious in the white and red silk. Too much?
Your mind wandered to the thought of the night progressing towards...sexier endings. He was so kind and considerate in the light...what kind of person would he be when the lights were off? Would he be the doting lover who made sure you were well taken care of? Or would he turn out to be dominating and dirty?
Either way, you were suddenly very uncomfortable with the thoughts. Not a bad uncomfortable, by no means, but you were a little off put by the throbbing. Sure, you had plenty of friends with benefits for your needs but...something was different with Steve.
Biting your lip, you make a dangerous decision and toss your bra away. “Panties optional,” you smirk, catching your excited look in your vanity mirror. You pull the silky, flowy shorts up your long legs and admire the picture you make in the mirror. Turning, you giggle at the sight your ass made in the shorts. “I hope he remembers his inhaler.”
You were pulling the pizza out just as a knock sounded on the door. Setting the pizza on the stove, you pull off the mits so you could answer the door. You open it up to find Steve standing there with a bottle of wine and potted plant.
“Hey...Venus…” he paused, eyes trailing down the length of your body. They lingered just a little too long on your braless breasts and the exposed skin of your legs. “You look fantastic-I mean, these are for you!”
You hide the knowing smirk behind the flowers as you smell them. “These are lovely, Steve,” you smile sweetly, taking the bottle of wine next. “Oh, sparkling wine? You shouldn’t have!”
“I figured it’d go nicely with the pizza?” he asked, stepping into your living room and closing the door. You walked over to set the plant on your balcony with your other plants before really looking at him. He was wearing a clean pair of gray sweatpants with a t-shirt with the words, Art Teachers do it for the Monet, with splashes of paint all over it. “I love your shirt!”
He looked down at the shirt before laughing. “I thought you might like this one! I got it from a student as a gift.”
“It’s fantastic,” you giggle, walking over to cut the pizza. “Want to grab some glasses from that cabinet? I’ll plate us up some food while you pour the drinks.”
He quickly came around the corner to help in the kitchen. The two of you worked to get everything ready. You caught him looking at your ass a few times out of the corner of your eye but didn’t say anything about it. It only made you a little wet.
You grabbed the plates and headed into the living room where your big, fluffy loveseat sat. “What kind of movie do you want to watch?” you asked, flopping down onto the cushion.
Steve handed you a glass of wine before sitting down next to you. He was warm and comfortable next to you. You grabbed the soft, downy blanket off the other couch to lay across your laps.
“You can choose. There are very few things I don’t like,” he smiled, cuddling into the couch to get comfortable.
“How do you feel about Mockumentaries?” you ask, grabbing the remote to toggle through your streaming sites. “There’s this new one out about the Megalodon that I’ve never had the time to watch.”
He laughed, sipping at his wine idly. “That sounds like fun!”
The two of you eat your pizza, drink your wine and laugh at the asinine movie. The ‘proof’ was goofy and hoaky but gave the two of you plenty of things to make fun of. Somehow, the two of you ended up leaning against each other by the middle, his arm wrapped around your shoulders.
You could feel his heart pounding inside his narrow chest and his warmth was comfortable. “Steve,” you whisper, catching his attention so that he looks down at you. “Can I kiss you?”
“Yes,” he answers without a thought.
He met you halfway so that your lips crashed together. Neither of you seemed to mind as heat coursed through your body from the simple touch. You moved to sit up, situating yourself on his lap. The blanket fell away from your bodies, forgotten, on the ground. Your fingers tangled in his hair and his hands wrapped around your waist to hold you steady.
“Are you okay?” you ask, worried about his asthma. “Do you have your inhaler?”
Steve hardly heard you as he pulled the device out of his pocket and placed it on the arm of the couch. “Right here,” he said before jerking you back down into another kiss. He kisses you like a man starved, tongue invading your mouth until you moan. “Still good?”
“Yeah, more,” you whimper, shivering when his fingers run up your thighs until they slip past your shorts. He hesitated at the swell of your ass. “It’s okay, Steve. Keep going.”
Bolstered by your consent, he grabs your ass with both hands, fondling firmly. “God, no panties?” he groans, leaning his head back against the couch. “You planned this?”
You couldn’t help but laugh at his shocked expression. “I mean, I had hope? I wasn’t sure if you would be comfortable with it,” you admit sheepishly, jumping a little when his hands slid from your ass to your inner thighs. “I can see I had nothing to worry about.”
He massaged your thighs idly. “I’ll be honest, I don’t usually do this on the second date,” he admits softly, mouthing little bites at the column of your neck. It had you trembling with excitement. “But...you’re an exception. I haven’t been able to think about anything else since we met.”
You bite down on your lower lip to contain the moan from his ministrations. “You can’t say things like that, Steve!” you manage, yelping when his fingers brush across the hair that leads to the part of you that ached most.
“Why not?” he chuckled, nipping at your earlobe playfully. “Because you’re so moved by my poetic words?”
You could hardly think through the haze of arousal and excitement. His words were said with a bit of tease and a bit of spite...it was just enough to make you clench around nothing. “Steve,” you whine, gripping his bony shoulders desperately.
“What’s wrong?” he chides teasingly, pulling his hands from your shorts. He ignored your despondent noise. “Now, now, don’t be like that. I want to take my time.”
His fingers slid up under your loose top to cup your breasts. “I-I need it now,” you complain, yelping when deft fingers pinched your nipples. “Please, Steve.”
He slowly lifts your shirt, making sure to tuck the fabric under them so that they bounce out once revealed. “Oh fuck,” he hissed, running his tongue across a hard nipple. “These are so gorgeous.”
You made a strangled sound of pleasure when he gently nipped at one. “Steve, you’re torturing me,” you whimper, unable to do anything but sit on his lap and let him have his way.
“So needy,” he smirked, the expression completely changing his face. You felt your insides quiver when you realized he was going to be a disgustingly sexy mixture of both men you imagined earlier. “Go to your room and lay out on the bed for me.”
You shakily stood to your feet, unsure if you were able to disobey anything the artist said with that look in his eye. His hand gave a smart smack to your ass, causing a yelp to leave your lips at the sting and surprise of it. You looked back to see him with an eyebrow quirked. You weren’t sure why but you felt compelled to say, “Yes, sir.”
It was the right response by the look of heat and arousal in his eyes. “Be quick.”
On jello legs, you walked through the hallway to your room. Thankfully, you kept a pretty clean house but without the need for hiding things, you had left your favorite vibrator out on the bedside table. You debated on whether to put it away. No time, you could hear the couch creak so you just flopped onto the bed.
“Oh, sweetheart,” you heard the man coo from the doorway. He was looking down at your body with a dangerous glint in his eyes. “You’re gorgeous.”
He took a few steps into the room to reach the bed. You felt like you might tremble out of your skin when his hands gently ran up your ankles, across your shins and thighs. The path his eyes took felt just as tangible as his hands. He skipped your shorts to grab the waistband, pulling them down and off of your body with very little help.
You felt deliciously exposed to the man, lying there with nothing but the silky top covering your skin. Steve’s eyes drank you in before flicking up to meet your gaze. “Knees bent...spread out for me, sweetheart.”
It sounded so sweet but there was this edge to his voice. It made you want to follow his every command like a sweet pliant toy. “I have to admit, Steve,” you whisper, bending your knees slowly. You kept your knees firmly together as long as possible just to tease the man. “I never would have guessed you’d be so...commanding.”
The face of pleasure he made had your insides fluttering when you spread your legs open. “Oh fuck,” he hissed as if the mere sight of you caused him pain. You knew, for a fact, that it didn’t if the state of his pants were anything to go on.
Speaking of which, you had to double take out of concern. “Steve…” you whispered, yelping when his hands started to slide down the inside of your thighs.
“Yeah, sweetheart?” he asked, wholly focused on your most intimate parts.
“I don’t mean to be rude but...are you hiding a large phallic vegetable in your pants?” you question.
He laughs, face brightening with the expression. “No, I am not hiding a large vegetable in my pants,” he said with an absolutely filthy smirk. “Would you like to see?”
You moan, hating how much you loved his relentless teasing. “Yes, please!”
He leaned forward, kissing you slow and dirty. “Too bad, sweetheart. My clothes don’t come off until you’re begging,” he whispered against your lips.
Your groan of pleasure and disappointment quickly changed into a yelp when his fingers brushed across your clit. Electric pleasure coursed through all of your nerve endings all at once. “F-Fuck,” you whimper, pushing up into his hand for more.
“Stay still, Venus,” he commanded, kissing a path down your neck while his fingers drew lazy circles. “Or might just have to spank this pretty pussy.”
Steve-fucking-Rogers was going to be the most delicious undoing of your entire life and he hadn’t even pulled out his, apparently, monstrous cock. You could already feel the first orgasm coming on, which, while not unheard of for you to be this easy, was definitely not the norm. You just didn’t expect Steve, sweet little art professor Steve, to be so fucking dirty in all the right ways.
“Still with me, sweetheart?” he asked, catching your attention away from the distracting pleasure. He gained a hesitant, worried look on his face that made the mask of confidence crack a bit. “Is it too much? Should I back off?”
You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him down into a heated kiss. His fingers never stopped but sped up and changed patterns so frequently it made your head spin. “Steve Rogers,” you said firmly, looking him directly in the eyes. It was hard to be so serious when your orgasm was so fucking close. “Don’t you dare back off. You are the sexist man I’ve ever been in bed with an I haven’t even-fuck!”
All it took were two thin fingers to push inside of your entrance and crook perfectly for you to fall apart. Your body shuddered as the heat flooded through your system until you were whimpering. Steve didn’t stop, alternating between fucking into you with his fingers and pressing the heel of his palm against your clit.
“That’s right, sweetheart,” he cooed with just a bit of sarcasm in his voice. “Cum all over my fingers.”
“S-Steve, god!” you cried out, grabbing onto the bed sheets for some kind of stability. “Please, I-I can’t.”
“Yes you can,” he chuckled, shifting until he was lying flat on his stomach. Even knowing what was coming, it didn’t prepare you for the feel of his hot tongue running across your sensitive clit. He worked another finger into you while sucking and lapping with his mouth.
You threw your head back when another orgasm, much more intense than the first several, crackled across your nerves. Still, he didn’t stop. He kept drawing abstract patterns on your clit, fucking into you with those amazing fingers and egging you on with dirty talk until you thought you might go insane.
“Steve, please, please, I need-I need your cock,” you finally ended up begging, just like he said you would. “Fuck me, for the love of god!”
He pulled away from your throbbing, sensitive pussy with a damn near sinister grin on his face. “You sure? I bet I could drag another out of you,” he teased, kissing the inside of your quivering thigh. You watched with rapt attention as he bit down on the sensitive skin and sucked until you knew a mark would be left. He shouldn’t do that. It would be pretty noticeable at your job but...you couldn’t find it in yourself to tell him to stop.
“No, please, please just...I need you,” you whimper, reaching out to pull his shirt off his body. He looked a little nervous but you just smiled. “Steve, you have literally gotten me off a near dozen times. I want to see all of you.”
The smirk was back very quickly as he let you pull the shirt away. “Shirt off,” he commanded, watching intensely as you pulled the silky fabric off of your body. It was haphazardly tossed aside in just enough time to see him undo the strings of his sweatpants.
Your mouth dried out when he pulled his cock out of his pants for you to see. It was...holy fuck...so good. It was definitely not what you thought the small guy was packing but, apparently, he was hung. “Holy fuck,” you groan, reaching out to stroke the hard flesh from base to tip. It pulled a low rumbled moan from the man who was quivering just as much as you were. “I want to put this in my mouth.”
He shoved you down into the bed while he shucked the pants away. “A different time, sweetheart, I need to be inside you first,” he smirked, kissing any protest from your mouth. He held up a condom that he must have had in his pocket.
You gave him a knowing look. “It seems I wasn’t the only hopeful one,” you giggle, taking the condom from his hand. “I guess I should have asked if you regularly test before we started this, huh?”
“Just had one a week ago, I’ve got proof in my bag,” he replies quickly, looking like he might jump off to go grab it. You hold him fast.
“I trust you, Steve. I’m clean too. Haven’t had sex in nearly a month,” you explain, tossing the condom away. “Also, I’ve got an IUD so no need for that unless you want it?”
“No,” he breathed, leaning down to kiss you again. “I want to feel you. Is that okay?”
You wrap your arms up around his back. “Yes, please, just get inside me,” you whisper, kissing him hard when you feel him adjust to rub his tip against your clit. It was incredibly sensitive but that didn’t stop you from enjoying the teasing. “Steve Rogers!”
“So needy,” he laughed, breaching your entrance. The satisfying stretch made you throw your head back into the pillow. “There you go, greedy girl.”
His cock felt so fucking good after so much teasing and so many orgasms. So good that you felt yourself ograsm just from the first thrust, which would have been embarrassing if the dark look in Steve’s eyes didn’t distract you. Your body was on fire as he started to move.
“God, sweetheart, you feel so good,” he moaned, pressing his forehead to yours. “I’m not going to last.”
You ran your hands through his hair, body shaking from the feel of him dragging across every inch of your insides. “Don’t care just-oh!-keep moving!” you whimper, hardly able to make coherent sounds.
He picks up the pace until you can’t see straight or think. His pace, while steady, wasn’t too fast but that didn’t matter. It felt so good. So fucking good you didn’t want him to stop but knew he was close by the way his body tensed.
He pulled away quickly, stroking himself a few more times before painting your stomach and chest with his cum. You went boneless against the bed, body humming from the pleasure and afterglow. It took you a moment to realize Steve was staring at you.
“Sorry, you look so pretty covered in my cum,” he smirked deviously.
“Fuck, Steve!” you laugh, pussy clenching around nothing like you weren’t sore and sensitive still. “You’re going to be the death of me.”
“Too much?” he teased, getting up to go towards your bathroom.
You scoff, watching him grab a washcloth and wet it. “Hell no. Give me a few minutes and I’ll suck you off so hard you’ll forget your name.”
You expected him to laugh but instead, he had a sinister grin on his face. “Is that so?” he smirked, wiping the rag across your chest. “I look forward to it.”

Another story for Patreon! So, for this one, I'm a bit anxious (when am I not?), because this definitely took off in the complete opposite direction of what I initially planned. That being said, I hope you all enjoy it!
Thank you as always to @fuckingbye for the amazing moodboard, I love you to bits for literally everything you do! I was in the middle of updating three other stories when this idea came to me, so please just work with me! (I'm so sorry I'm like this.)
Anywho, here we go!
Word Count: 34,776 (I'm not even gonna apologize anymore)
Warnings: Honestly, this entire fucking story. SMUT (MINORS DNI 18+ ONLY), Threesome, Lying, Infidelity, Emotional Cheating, Swearing, Drinking, Infertility, Family Drama, Angst, Lusting, Daddy Kink, Running Away, Tie Play, Cuff Play, Crying, Fluff, Best friends to lovers...that's all I can think of? They're honestly so many.
Song(s) That Inspired This Chapter: Don't Look So Blue, You Should've Seen Right Thru, I'm Using You, My Little Decoy
Summary: You truly do have the best intentions when you try to move on and suppress your feelings for your best friend Steve, and try to move on with Bucky. Unfortunately, life doesn't give a damn about intentions. Neither does love.

You wonder how the hell it got to this point in the first place as you lay in Steve’s soft bed sheets. What feels like it should be a quiet moment of peace is juxtaposed with your current reality; Bucky pounding on the front door and you and Steve conspiring to think of some kind- any kind- of excuse.
You truly don’t understand how it got to this.
It all feels like it started so long ago. You didn’t even know 6 years could feel so fast, much less pass so quickly. You look around at where you are now, at Steve, as you listen to the shaking of the front door against Bucky’s fist as he continues thumping away. Fuck. What if memories lie? Maybe it is that long ago.
~~
6 Years Earlier...
“Babe, you ever had a night out in the city?” Bucky asked as you took off your gear.
Training was brutal and everyone was looking for a way to relieve stress. You knew The Avengers were all planning to meet up at some club downtown, but you had other plans.
“I have, and as much fun as it can be, I have other plans,” you laugh as you take your hair out of the tightest ponytail you’d ever had it in.
“Oh? What are you getting into?” Natasha laughs, making her way over with Bruce holding onto her as if he’d lose her.
“My friend’s band is playing tonight. I promised her I’d go if we finished up early enough.”
“Oh, this I gotta see!” Bruce chimes in as you laugh and shake your head. “You never let us have a peak into your personal life!”
“God, I haven’t been to a show in forever,” Natasha chimes in with raised eyebrows.
He wasn’t wrong. You played everything so close to the chest; wanting to keep those you love and care for the most safe...wanting to keep yourself safe. Since none of them were relenting (not to mention they’re the damn Avengers), you finally agreed and told them to meet you outside of your room at the compound in about two hours.
“Is it too late for me to get in on this?” Steve asks just as the group was about to disperse.
“There you are!” Bucky interjects before anyone has a chance to say anything. “Y/N is giving us a peak into her personal life! We’re all meeting at her place in two hours and going from there,” he laughs patting his best friend on the back.
Steve looked at you with a cocked eyebrow and you just laugh and nod, giving him the ‘OK’ to tag along. Unbeknownst to the others, you and Steve hung out the most. No, he’d never been privy to your personal life, but you two spent a lot of time watching movies and listening to music together on the weekends. Occasionally, Bucky would get in on the action, but it was mainly you and Steve. You and Steve had a certain level of comfort that you didn’t have with the rest of them. It was more of an unspoken, private thing and that’s how the both of you preferred it. You both understood each other, and neither of you ever made the other feel sad or out of place for things that had gone wrong in each other’s past. You both had wounds you were still healing from, and you gave each other the space needed for that to happen.
You’d always had a thing for Steve. He kept himself at a distance, so it was difficult for you to tell if he ever felt the same. After a while, you’d stopped trying and just accepted him as a friend. He told you that he’d wanted to go back and stay with Peggy, but he was too afraid to leave Bucky on his own again, so he’d come back instead. He wasn’t even sure if Bucky would ever be okay with being alone; Steve just stayed without asking him. It seemed like the right thing to do, and he didn’t hate the current timeline too much.
Soon enough, everyone is in your small little complex, drinking and laughing as you put together the last bit of your outfit. The thought of Steve joining all of you had you more anxious than you cared to admit, so you chalked it up to the normal anxiety of inviting your work colleagues into your personal life.
Which was more than fair.
“I’m sure you look amazing, lets go! I’m too excited for this!” Natasha hollers as she makes her way into your bedroom.
“Nat!”
“Oh, they’re all in there drinking away! You’re fine,” she laughs, closing the door behind her. “Well shit!”
“I swear to God, I’ll change right now!”
“No! You look amazing!” she promised as her hands covered her mouth. “None of us have ever seen you out of work clothes, and babe...you look amazing,” she laughs in shock.
“Should I change? I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea-”
“If you’re comfortable, who cares. No one wants to interfere with your personal life. I think we’re all more afraid of pushing you away,” she laughs.
“You really think it’s okay?”
“I mean, I think you’re hot as fuck,” she laughed as you rolled your eyes, “but I think you look amazing.”
“You sure?”
“Get enough alcohol in them , they won’t even notice when you leave for the bathroom,” she laughed.
Even though you laughed along with her, you knew better. James Buchanan Barnes kept his attention on you almost as well as Steve, but you never thought anything of it. It always had a more platonic feeling than with Steve, almost more familial.
When you came out, Steve was the first to look at you. His mouth slightly agape was enough to make you wanna go back, but Bucky was quick to chime in-
“Someone is ready for a night out,” he laughed.
That’s all it took.
Soon enough, you were taking shots and laughing with everyone else. Even Pepper and Tony were excited and joined you all. Your life was something so foreign to them, and you could tell that they all felt extremely excited that you trusted them enough.
In all honesty, you felt more comfortable because Steve was there. You knew he’d never let anything happen to you, and you’d never let anything happen to him. If you were being completely honest, you’d only wanted to invite him out. How it spiraled, you’re still not sure but it did. It The only thing that felt off was letting him see you dressed as you were. It was weird for all of them to see you dressed as you were, but Steve couldn’t take his eyes off you.
You were in red plaid crop top, with tight fighting black jeans that hugged your hips in just the right way, and black low top heels. You put your hair in loose curls, and finished it off with eyeliner and mascara. After a brutal day of training, you really didn’t wanna spend forever doing your makeup, because you knew you’d wanna come home after everything was over and go right back to sleep. Yeah, everything was hugging your body in just the right way, but you weren’t about to change.
You were introducing them to your life.
Before you all left, Thor filled three flasks with his mead from Asgard for himself, Steve, and Bucky and you laughed pretty damn hard.
“We wanna enjoy this night too,” he winked at you as you rolled your eyes.
The walk was easy enough, but it felt like it took forever. People kept asking for pictures with the OG Avengers, they had a million questions, and of course they were all happy to be as kind as possible. It’s not that you minded all that much, but you really missed your best friend. Work had been kicking your ass, she had been extremely busy, and was in the middle of planning her wedding. Nights off were extremely rare, but actually getting to see her and her friends perform? It had been forever.
“You made it!” she squealed once you were finally inside the club with everyone, almost knocking you over with how hard she hugged you.
“I told you I’d show! Even if I would’ve only caught the last song,” you laughed as you hugged her back just as tight. “We still on for drinks after?”
“Fuck yes! Your tits look amazing in this top, we’re definitely getting free drinks out of it,” she beamed with a wink and you burst out laughing. “Okay, I’ve seen all of you on TV, but I still wanna officially meet everyone,” she smiled at everyone. “I’m Meg.”
As everyone went around introduced themselves, you made your way to the bar, to grab your signature Jack and Coke.
“Hell yes! You made it!” Meg’s finance, Paul, beamed as he made your drink.
“Why is everyone so shocked that I’m here?!”
“You haven’t been to a show in years!”
“Blah, blah, blah,” you muttered as you reached behind the bar and grabbed his pack of cigarettes.
“You bring the Avengers with you and you dare to steal from me?” he sneered sarcastically as he handed you your drink.
You laughed as you reached across the bar and kissed his cheek, “I’m sure our friendship will survive it.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Dude, I had no idea the place would be so packed tonight.”
“I have a feeling everyone here had a long ass Friday.” “Yeah, well they better treat my baby right.” “You two!”
He rolled his eyes as he flipped you off, “enjoy the show!”
“Thank you, Paaauuullll,” you sang out as everyone joined you.
You looked up to see Steve staring at you intently, and he quickly turned towards the stage when he realized he was caught. Before you could allow yourself to think on it or feel flattered, you heard your best friend yell from the stage as she started to make her guitar scream.
“We’re ‘Flowers of Cinnamon’, and thanks for spending your Friday night with us!”
From that moment on, you were barely paying attention to your surroundings. With the exception of your drink, you didn’t focus on anything other than your best friend rocking the fuck out. It had always just been a hobby for her, but she had always been so damn good at it. You envied how effortlessly performing came to her. The band was a cross between Paramore, The Bangles, and All Time Low, and they were just as amazing as you remembered. You wouldn’t have been able to stay still even if you’d wanted to. You sang and danced along to every song, bouncing around, and screaming your head off. You had no clue that Steve had been watching you with the biggest grin on his face, Bucky had been watching your chest bounce up and down, or that Tony had been recording your reaction to your best friend’s music, smiling so hard at your happiness.
Every other song, your best friend made eye contact with you and laughed, and nothing else seemed to matter. Thinking back on it, you wished it had, because maybe things wouldn’t have gotten so fucked up, but you were just so damn happy. The more drinks got, the more you danced and sang around, finally feeling comfortable and happy, even with your new set of friends watching you.
“Okay, this is gonna be our last song for the night,” Meg smiled into the microphone and she laughed at amount of “boos” they received. “Listen, I wanna get fucked up too!” she joked, gaining laughs from the crowd. “Okay, so tonight is extremely special because my best friend on the entire planet is here and brought her friends with her! Thanks babe! So, our last song is gonna be a cover of one of her favorite songs ever,” she winked at you as you cocked an eyebrow.
As soon as you heard the first cord of ‘Decoy’ by Paramore hum out of the speakers, you screamed so loud that everyone in your group (and Paul) started laughing.
‘Close your eyes and make believe that this is where you wanna be
Forgetting all the memories, try to forget love cause love’s forgotten me
Well hey, hey baby, it’s never too late
Pretty soon you won’t remember a thing
All I’ll be distant, the stars reminiscing
Your heart’s been wasted on me’
You sang along so effortlessly as you started to jump up and down.
‘You’ve never been so used as I’m using you, abusing you
My little decoy
Don’t look so blue, you should’ve seen right through
I’m using you, my little decoy
My little decoy’
You linked arms with Nat, who clearly didn’t know the song, but was more than happy to sing and dance along with you. You glanced around and it made you so happy to see everyone else happy and having a good time. It’s not like you were a stick in the mud at work but, you never let loose. Even when it came to holiday and birthday parties, you were pretty damn reserved. The only person who can claim that they’ve seen you fucked up is Steve, and even then it was just you being wine drunk on the sofa while you two listened to albums and discussed work.
No, this was you letting lose and everyone accepting it. Accepting you. You looked over at Steve and he a look of pure love and adoration in his eyes, and it made your heart swell.
God, you wished you would’ve paid more attention to the way both he and Bucky looked at you that night, but you were just so damn happy and having so much fun.
If you could turn back time...
“Am I still okay at singing?” Meg asked once she finally made her way over to all of you.
“Dude, you’re still fucking amazing!” you beamed as you wrapped her in a tight hug and she laughed. “That was so good! Thank you for playing ‘Decoy’, almost making me cry!”
“Aha!” she teased before she looked at everyone else. “What about Earth’s mightiest heroes? Were you all able to tolerate it?”
“That was amazing,” Tony laughed, Pepper nodding in agreement.
“Why don’t you do this full time?” Nat asked as you waived Paul down and got another drink for both you and Meg.
“If I did this full time, I’d be so stressed all the damn time,” Meg laughed, “I’m much happier painting.”
“What do you paint? Do you have a studio?” Clint inquired and a smile came to your face.
Things were going better than you could have ever imagined.
As everyone got acquainted, you snuck to have a smoke. A few moments later, a smile came to your face when you saw Steve come out after you.
“You said you’re quitting those,” he nodded towards the cigarette in your hand.
“I stole Paul’s,” you laughed, standing a little further from him so as to not get the smoke in his face.
“I can handle it,” he laughed as he placed his black leather jacket on you. “You’re pretty...exposed and I don’t want you getting cold.”
“Well, aren’t you just the sweetest man?” you teased before you inhaled your cancer stick. “Who else knows about this? I’ll call the ‘New York Times’” He snickered as he shook his head, “quiet you.”
“Are you having fun tonight?”
“I am, I like you seeing like this.”
You scoffed, “crazy?” “Happy...content. Secure.”
You felt your cheeks heat up at his words, and the look he gave you along with it, had butterflies appearing in your stomach.
“We should get back inside,” you smiled at up at him as you ashed the last of your cigarette and threw it in the nearby trash bin.
And maybe that’s when it started.
You just missed all the signs that night, because you were convinced Steve didn’t want you.
He convinced you he didn’t want you.
When the two of you got back inside, Paul had just finished up his shift and the guys had finished helping Meg back up her equipment which she had decided to lock up in the manager’s office for the night.
“Dancing! We need dancing!” she whined once her eyes landed on you.
“Hell yeah we do,” you laughed as you linked arms with both her and Nat.
Once again, you didn’t notice the way Bucky ogled you or the way Steve kept a close eye on you. When you all reached the next bar, you instantly ordered more drinks and pulled Nat and Meg onto the dance floor with you, still wearing Steve’s coat. He leaned against the bar, talking with Tony and Pepper, but still kept an eye on you. As Janet Jackson’s voiced filled the giant building, you danced around with the biggest smile on your face (at some point Meg had put her sunglasses on your face), smiling and waiving at Bucky when you saw his eyes glued to you.
Well, glues to your ass.
By the time everyone was ready to call it a night, you were drunk as shit.
“You’re not coming back to the compound?” Nat asked as she stumbled out after you.
“Nah, I wanna sleep in my own space tonight. It’s closer,” you giggled as you started giving out hugs.
“I can take you,” Bucky offered with a slick grin.
“I can take her, she’s on the way to my house,” Steve countered, and Meg cocked an eyebrow at you.
You just started dancing and walking.
“Goodnight everyone! Get home safe! I love you all!”
You were drunk, tired, and in no mood to figure out whatever that was about. You just wanted to go home and get in your bed. You honestly don’t know why you didn’t go back to the compound that night, but it just felt right to go to your own home. You already spent so little time there to begin with. A few moments later, you heard the hurried footsteps of someone behind you, but you kept looking ahead.
“You’re impatient when you’re drunk,” Steve laughed as he came up beside you.
A small smile came to your face at the fact that Steve was the one to walk you home.
You giggled as you leaned into him, “my feet hurt.”
No sooner than you said it, he scooped you up.
“Steve!”
“You weigh nothing, don’t worry about it, darlin.” “It’s a 30 minute walk!”
“I’m very well aware of where your apartment is.” “Steve-”
“Hush.”
You pouted but did as you were told, leaned into him, and took in the scent that was all his own. Something between woodsy and fresh cut grass. In your drunken state, he felt like home.
“Why didn’t you want Bucky to take me home?” you asked after a few moments, not missing the way he stiffened a bit.
“He’s a little buzzed and he gets a little handsy and flirty at times. I didn’t want him to bother you.” You giggled as you took in more of his scent, “you’re literally carrying me, Steve.” “You said your feet hurt.” “Are you a little buzzed?”
“I definitely don’t feel sober,” he chuckled softly and you softly sighed at the comfort of rumble in his chest.
“Do you wanna sleepover?”
“I’ll order a car service once I drop you off.”
“Why not order one now?”
“It was weird...everyone hanging out tonight. I feel like we haven’t hung out alone together in a while.” “Then why not sleepover?”
“Cause I should go home. I don’t wanna accidentally wake you up or something. You worked hard today and you need rest.” “So did you.” “Y/N.” “You’re so weird sometimes, Steve,” you huffed as you laced your hand with his.
“What are you doing?”
“Holding your hand like I’ve done a million times before. What’s wrong?” “Nothing.”
You rolled your eyes and mumbled, “alright weirdo.” “I’m not being weird.”
“You’re not being normal.”
He let out a frustrated huff, “did you have fun tonight?”
“So much fun, I’m so happy you came out.”
“I’ve missed you, darlin.” “I’ve missed you too. Steve?”
“Hmm?”
“Sleepover.”
“Y/N-” “See? You are being weird. You’ve slept over my place a ton before, in my bed, and it wasn’t weird. What’s so different about tonight?”
He muttered, “so many things.” “Like what?”
“It’s just been a long night.”
“Fine, whatever. Go home, see if I give a fuck.” “Hey!”
“You’re being weird and you won’t tell me why. You know I hate when you do that shit.”
“I just think I should sleep in my own bed, darlin’. I’m not trying to be weird or make you upset.”
He sounded so strained and you couldn’t read his facial expression, so you couldn’t see how torn up he was. You couldn’t tell how much he was at war with himself.
You couldn’t tell how much he wanted you.
He chuckled when you didn’t say anything, “don’t get quiet on me now.”
“Can you at least stay until I fall asleep? It won’t take long.” “Everything okay, darlin’?”
“Yeah Steve, I just miss you,” you confessed softly.
“We’ll do a sleepover tomorrow, alright? We’ll have it at my house.” “Fine.” “Don’t be upset.” “I don’t care.” “You’re also a giant brat when you’re drunk.” “You’re saying that you miss me, but won’t spend time with me!”
God, you sounded like a brat to your own ears. That was a huge part as to why you’d never let him see you so inebriated. It’s why you never wanted anyone from The Avengers (or S.H.I.E.L.D for that matter) to see you so drunk. It became harder for you to suppress your feelings for Steve, and he’s all you wanted when you were drunk. For reasons unknown to you (at the time), Steve wanted to go home. That should’ve been enough, but your drunk wanted to hold him all night.
You were going out of your way to start an argument.
He let out a heavy sigh as he reached your complex, “I’ll stay-”
“Don’t do me any fucking favors-” “Will stop arguing with me? And stop with swearing, you know I hate it.” “Well maybe I hate you.”
He scoffed hard at that, “no you don’t.”
“You don’t know that-”
“Yes I do, so stop saying it. I’ll stay, okay?”
“And you’ll sleep next to me?”
“Yes darlin’, I will sleep next to you.”
You pressed a soft kiss to his neck and you felt his grip on you get tighter, “thank you, Steve!”
“Anything for you, sweetheart.”
That night, he was good to his word and slept next to you, letting use his chest as a pillow and you were asleep almost instantly. The next day, he was back to normal and you didn’t think anything of his behavior from the previous night. You had no reason to. However, from that day on, things did slowly start to change more.
It started with Bucky coming around more, especially when Steve was with you. You couldn’t sense it, because has always been entirely too good at hiding his emotions, but he slowly became frustrated. So much that he basically stopped coming around all together.
“Hey, are you busy?” you asked timidly as you approached his office one day.
“Yeah, unfortunately.” “Oh...okay then-”
“What’s wrong?”
“No, you’re busy and I don’t wanna take up your time...”
You could feel your eyes welling up and didn’t know why. Steve always had a way of making you so damn soft and vulnerable, and you truly hated it.
You still hate it.
“Darlin’-” “Please stop calling me that. The guy who started calling me that doesn’t seem to exist anymore. If he does, he’s making sure to stay away from me.”
“He still exists-” “Then what’s going on? Why are you staying away from me?”
He sighed as he threw down his pen, “nothing-”
“Alright, if you’re just gonna lie to me-” “I’m not lying!”
“Steve, you saw me walking with Bucky yesterday and literally turned in the other direction and walked away.” “You guys are just hanging out a lot now and I don’t wanna third wheel-” “You wouldn’t third wheeling! We’re just friends!”
“Y/N...” “Steve, why are you just abandoning me? You’re the one I’m closest to and you know that. You’ve always known that,” you sobbed as you closed the door behind you.
“Please don’t cry-” “Then why are you abandoning me?! What did I do wrong?!”
“Nothing-”
“Then what the fuck?! You’ve been acting so strange, but you’re saying I haven’t done anything! If I didn’t do anything, what the fuck is going on with you?!”
He let out another frustrated sigh and just stared at you, clearly at war with himself.
“Fuck this and fuck you, I give up,” you sobbed as you dried your eyes.
“Darlin’”
“Stop calling me that! I’m just Y/N and you’re just Steve. I can’t do this with you anymore!”
After you stormed out, things only got worse, because you’d never felt so low and alone in your life. Unless it had to do with a mission or training, you barely even looked his way. The farther you got away from Steve, the more Bucky swooped in. In fact, the more you look at how everything happened, you realize that things wouldn’t have gotten so bad if you’d just shut things down with the both of them.
However, it’s not as if thinking with a broken heart ever lead to a good thing.
You cried a lot and Bucky was just there for you. He was sweet, he listened, and let you keep your secrets. Sure, he asked what happened between you and Steve (everyone was), but he dropped it when you told him you wouldn’t be talking about it.
You can’t explain what you don’t know.
“Hey doll, we’re goin’ out tonight. You wanna come? Invite Meg!” Bucky asked one night after you let him in your apartment on the compound.
“Nah, I’ve got a hot date with a black and white French film and a few glasses of wine,” you smiled weakly.
“You can’t stay in here forever.”
“I don’t. Sometimes I go home.” “Babe-”
“I just wanna stay in, Buck,” you sighed as someone else knocked on your door. “I guess I’m just the most popular girl in the world.”
When you opened it the second time, Steve stood there looking just as upset as you felt. Instead of even trying to attempt to hear him out, a rage flared up inside you and you had to force yourself to not shove him. As far as you were concerned, he had a lot of fucking nerve to show up at your place after all the shit that happened in his office.
“What?”
“I wanted to know if you’re coming out tonight-”
“No.”
“Well, can I come in and we can talk? I know I owe you an explanation-”
“I don’t want an explanation anymore, Steve,” you lied harshly, “I just want you to leave me alone. I stood in your office and cried like a fucking dumbass...that was a month ago. Now you wanna talk? Just leave things as they are.”
You truly wish you hadn’t spoken out of anger because none of it was true. You cried over him whenever you were alone, you missed hanging out with him, you missed falling asleep next to him...you missed Steve. Your Steve.
You’ve always been a hot head.
“Darlin-” “What have I told you about that?” “Y/N, just give me a few minutes-”
“No, go away. Unless it has to do with work, we don’t have anything to talk about.” “You don’t mean that,” he more pleaded than told you.
“I’ve never meant it more!”
“Y/N-”
Bucky sighed as he came up behind you, “she just needs to cool off, Pal.”
If you hadn’t been so upset and hurt you would’ve laughed at how wide Steve’s eyes got.
“We’ll talk to you tomorrow, okay?”
“I thought you were coming out. It was your idea in the first damn place,” Steve snapped.
“I don’t wanna leave Y/N while she’s this upset. She shouldn’t be alone right now.”
Steve opened his mouth to say something, but all that happened was he clenched his jaw and looked away before he stormed off, punching the wall on his way out.
You should’ve spoken to him. You should’ve gone after him. Instead you pushed past Bucky and made yourself your first glass of wine of the night.
“Babe-”
“Buck, if you’re gonna stay here tonight, please no lectures. I just wanna be upset, okay?”
He just nodded solemnly, “I get it. No lectures, just drinks and weird French movies,” he smirked and you quietly laughed.
Here’s the thing: it’s not that you never found Bucky attractive, you just never thought about him. You were always thinking about Steve. However, at that time, thinking about Steve brought you too much pain and you didn’t want to feel anymore pain for a while. You just wanted to feel numb. You’d rather have nothing, the void, than hold onto the pain Steve’s brought on.
You rested your legs on him when he sat next to you, not thinking anything of it. When he started stroking your leg after the third glass of wine, you still didn’t think anything of it. You only started to pick up on his actions when he squeezed your thigh a little.
“Buck?”
“Yeah doll?” “What are you doing?”
“Trying to help you relax and feel better.”
“Buck-”
“I’ve never seen you this upset, babe. I just wanna help.”
The thought and the offer were tempting. You couldn’t remember the last time you had gotten off to something other than your vibrator. Of course you’d made subtle advances towards Steve, but he’d clearly turned you down. Plus, the women around the compound did talk. While Bucky had a reputation for being a skirt chaser, he also had a reputation for wearing women out in the best way.
It’s not like you were looking for anything. You just wanted to forget for awhile.
He tested the waters a bit more by sliding his hand further up your leg, waiting to see how you’d respond.
You placed your wine glass on the ground and opened your legs for him a bit, “you just wanna make me feel better?”
“So fuckin’ good, doll,” he husked, as he reached between your legs and easily ripped your panties off, “just lay back and enjoy, baby.”
His movements were slow, but his kisses were desperate. It felt good, but off. Not to mention you felt more guilty with every kiss he gave you, like you were betraying Steve.
‘Fuck Steve,’ you told yourself mentally, ‘he had his chance and he clearly didn’t want it.’
You closed your eyes in a vain attempt to shut out any thoughts of Steve, but that only made his face come to mind. You let out a sound between a moan and a frustrated grunt as you pulled Bucky’s hair.
“Please!”
“Tell me how bad you want it,” he smirked, his hot breath lapped at your pussy.
“So fucking bad, please! Need it!”
“Love seeing you like this,” he cooed, before he dipped down and dove in and his lewd moans filled the room.
This was the moment Bucky became your “decoy”. You didn’t want him in the same way he wanted you, but part of you felt like he didn’t actually give a shit. Since he’d lost Nat to Bruce, Bucky wasn’t ever really looking for a relationship. He liked to play around, entertain a woman (or two) for a few months, then he’d move on. As far as you were concerned, that night was only supposed to be a one time thing.
“F-fuck!” you moaned, doing your best to be in the moment as you lulled your head back while he fucked you with his tongue and massaged your clit with his thumb. “Feels so good, Buck!”
You weren’t lying completely. It’s not as if Bucky was bad at eating you out, he just wasn’t the one you wanted doing it.
You felt him smirk against your folds, and started to grind your pussy against his face, forcing yourself to focus on all the pleasure you felt instead of everything else.
‘Steve doesn’t want you. Steve doesn’t want you. Stop thinking about Steve!’ you told yourself mentally.
When he switched up and started sucking on your clit, he easily pressed two fingers into your soaked folds. You felt the knot in your core tighten and snap.
“FUCK!” you cried out as you came hard and a few tears escaped your eyes.
You hated how the tears weren’t from pleasure, but you masked it well enough as he fucked you through your high.
“Take off that fuckin’ shirt, baby. Let me fuckin’ see you,” he husked as he took off his own shirt and started to undo his jeans.
You were quick to do as he said, taking all of him as you ignored how uncomfortable you felt being so bare beneath him as his mouth glistened with your juices.
You were doing this to feel better, so why weren’t you feeling any better?
“Waited so fuckin’ long, baby,” he groaned as he dipped down and worshiped each of your breasts while his thumb made little circles on your clit.
“Bucky!”
“I know baby, I’m gonna take care of you, gonna take such good care of you,” he moaned before you felt his tongue on the side of your neck, licking up little beads of sweat.
You took a deep breath and told yourself you wanted it as you felt him at your entrance. You wanted Bucky. You just needed to let yourself relax.
“Jesus, you’re fuckin’ tight!” he grunted as he pushed into you.
“Oh fuck!”
“I know you can take me, baby! Your wet little pussy is squeezing me so tight, baby!” “Please don’t stop,” you whimpered as you wrapped a leg around his waist, trying to hang on to him as he fucked into you hard and fast.
You wanted this. You agreed to this.
He pushed himself up with his metal arm and looked down at you adoringly, “wanted you for so long, doll. Waited for...ah fuck!”
To avoid feeling anymore guilt, you wrapped an arm around him to pull him close and kissed him passionately, moaning into his mouth when you felt him fill you to the brim. He rode out both your highs before he rested his forehead against yours.
“So good, baby. You tired?” he asked, breath still coming heavy.
You just closed your eyes and shook your head no.
“Good girl.”
Bucky kept at it for a while, not feeling any real pleasure until he brought you off (which you had to fake half the time). There was nothing wrong with him. You found him attractive, and you knew that he wanted you, but it just wasn’t what you wanted. All of it felt so hollow and emotionless on your end. You felt like you were acting and Bucky was working his ass off to please you; to make matters worse, your phone kept going off and you knew who it was.
Steve would’ve hated you if he knew what you were doing and who with, but a part of you felt like he already did. When you both were done, Bucky was a gentleman. He pulled your shirt over your head, carried you to bed, and held you close until you both fell asleep.
You didn’t cry until the next day when you woke up alone in an empty apartment. You ignored calls from both Bucky and Steve, and eventually Bucky was the only one texting you.
Something in you knew that Bucky had confirmed his suspicions, and you just knew he was furious. You and Steve both knew Bucky wasn’t a bad guy, he was just a player and Steve never wanted that for you.
Eventually you cracked and called Meg, and cried while you told her everything.
“Well...fuck,” she muttered once you finally got everything out. “Are you sure Steve knows?”
“His calls and texts were incessant until they weren’t. He hasn’t done either in the last 3 hours.”
“Oh yeah no, he definitely fucking knows. Bucky?”
“Bucky went from every 30 minutes to every other hour.”
“Well, what’s wrong with him?” “Nothing...”
“Except?”
“He’s not Steve.”
“Yeah, but Steve passed up on you, and he was kind of a dick about it. He waited a month until after the office situation? You’ve been showing him your available for how many years? I know you love him, but-”
“I don’t love him.”
“Yeah, cause that’s you’re crying to me about him instead of the skirt chaser that fucked your brains out?”
“Meg.”
“I’m not being insensitive, I’m being honest. Bucky was there last night, clearly wanted you, was with you all night, and all you could think about was Steve. Today, even though Bucky is still texting you, you’re more upset that Steve isn’t because you know he knows. If I were you, I’d be more worried about the guy that’s used to fucking around breaking my heart, than the guy who isn’t,” she sighed.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
“Steve had his chance, I need to let him go. I’ve been in my room crying all day...I have to stop.”
“Can you?”
“I don’t have much of a choice do I?”
“Babe, if you could end up with Steve, I’d prefer that, but that’s not really an option. Even if he came back, he gave you the run around for a bit. Just focus on you for now and what you want. You always want to make others happy, and you need to focus on you.”
“You’re right. I know you’re right.”
“Do you need me to come over?”
“No, being alone is good for me right now.”
“Alright, I love you, Y/N. It’s gonna be okay.”
You let out a heavy sigh as you sobbed, “I love you,” and hung up.
You ignored Bucky for the rest of the day, feeling guilty about it, but knowing it was for the best. You’d done enough wrong and you truly did need to focus on you and what you wanted.
However, before you fell asleep, you broke down and checked all your texts from Steve.
O Captain, My Captain: Darlin, please just talk to me. I’m so sorry.
O Captain, My Captain: I’m not going out tonight, please just answer me.
O Captain, My Captain: Don’t do anything with Bucky. He’s my best friend, but he’s not worthy of you. He won’t treat you right and you know that.
O Captain, My Captain: Please just answer me.
O Captain, My Captain: If I could take back my actions, I would. I’m so sorry. If you’d just talk to me, I’d be able to make you understand.
O Captain, My Captain: Please talk to me. I miss you so much.
O Captain, My Captain: I’m going to sleep, but give me a call whenever.
O Captain, My Captain: Seriously? All night and you’re still not talking to me?
O Captain, My Captain: Baby, please just talk to me. We’ve never gone this long without talking, and I fucking hate it.
O Captain, My Captain: Y/N...please.
O Captain, My Captain: Bucky just left. You’ve made yourself loud and clear, and fine. I got it.
O Captain, My Captain: Do whatever the fuck you want.
When you woke up the following day, you had the biggest headache from crying, and the last thing you felt like doing was facing either of them. You had a job to do though, and criminals didn’t stop being criminals just because you had a broken heart. Even though you were slower to dress than usual, you were still on time for training, and God, it was brutal.
Bucky kept looking at you, Steve wouldn’t even look your way, and you couldn’t focus. You’d never had a day so bad, and all you wanted was to crawl back into bed. During the meeting after, you just leaned against the wall, barely listening to anything Nick had to say. The one time you bothered to look up, you looked over at Steve and was glaring at you.
God, you really fucking hated yourself.
“Doll, wait up!” Bucky called after you once the meeting was over.
You’d practically run out of the room.
“Bucky, I really just want-”
“What did I do wrong?” he breathed once he caught up to you. “Everything seemed fine on Saturday, I thought we both enjoyed it.”
You didn’t miss the way Steve quietly scoffed as he walked past the both of you.
“Bucky, I just-”
“Did I hurt you? What...I really like you, Y/N. I have for a while and I just...was I too eager?”
You honestly hadn’t expected that.
“Wait...what?”
“I never said anything, because I thought you and Steve had a thing going, but that’s clearly not happening. You were just so upset on Saturday and I wanted to make you happy, and I’ve wanted you for so long...what did I do?”
Trash. You felt like absolute trash.
“I need to get to my room.” “Y/N-”
“Just...I’ll talk to you later, okay? You didn’t do anything wrong, I promise. I just have a lot going on in my head. I just need to be by myself for a while.”
“Please just-”
“I’ll talk to you later, okay? I’m sorry.”

A normal day in the avengers tower.
Kary and Wanda were in the latter's room, playing with their powers. By having the same ones, it was fun for them.
They mostly had pillow fights, without even touching them.
They were currently on the floor, looking at the ceiling, they no longer knew what to do.
"Wanda"
"Tell me"
"What time is it?"
"Seven twenty, why?"
Kary quickly got up off the ground and ran to the door. "Steve is waiting for me, he's supposed to be in my room at seven."
"Go with your love, don't make him wait too long."
"Shhh"
"I'll go buy coffee, can I get you something?"
"No need, thanks," she spoke before rushing out of the room.
Wanda started to laugh, she always used to forget things even if they weren't too important.
In this case, Kary had to do a little interview with the blonde. Because?
A few days ago, there was a somewhat important party, and of course they attended.
Kary met a very pretty girl, she was an unrecognized interviewer, she was too nice to her throughout the night, and you could tell it wasn't out of convenience or anything like that.
When they were leaving, they both came to have one last conversation.
It turns out that the girl had been able to interview all the avengers present, except for a certain blond.
So Kary did her a favor by asking her a couple of questions for her, they exchanged numbers and agreed that next Wednesday, the girl would receive the video of the interview.
And of course, it was already wednesday.
"Good morning..." he spoke entering the room.
Steve was sitting on the bed, looking sleepy.
"Until you arrive"
"Sorry, I didn't notice the time."
"It's ok don't worry."
She quickly positioned the camera a couple of meters from where her boyfriend was. She started recording and Rogers waved.
Kary frowned at him, and moved closer to him. "Why does your hair look like this?"
"How?"
"As if you just got up," she said, arranging his hair.
“Maybe because I got up thirty minutes ago, and I rushed to your room for the interview, and I ended up waiting for you for twenty minutes."
"Yeah, yeah, stop repeating that I was late, complaining."
The blond took her by the hips, leaving her lying on the bed, and began to tickle her.
"If you were the one who waited almost half an hour, you'd be angry now and you wouldn't talk to me."
"I got it, I got it," he repeated, laughing because of the tickling
He stopped tickling her, then placed a kiss on her cheek. “Okay, we need to record the interview."
"As you say, Captain." Kary laughed
"Do not tell me so."
"How? Captain? Everyone knows you like that, and everyone calls you that."
"But it's different when you say it, so don't do it." He affirmed his hands on his woman hips.
"Captain, captain, captain..." she said to annoy him
She filled her lungs with air when she suddenly felt Steve's lips on her neck. She didn't complain anymore.
He closed his eyes and tilted his head, feeling how the blond parted his legs, to better accommodate himself on top of her.
With one hand, Rogers unbuttoned the girl's shorts, running one hand under them. "Steve... They're going to listen to us..."
"There's no one, don't worry.''
Kary's top was soon on the floor, as was her bra, and minutes later, her shorts.
Steve had taken off only his shirt, and even though it was unfair, Kary didn't protest.
One of his hands squeezed one of the girl's breasts, while the other played with the elastic of the panties, to then slowly lower them.
He trailed kisses down her thighs, and returned to his woman neck.
She gasped feeling him make slow little circles on her sensitive spot.
After a few minutes, it no longer seemed enough. And he noticed it.
He undid his belt and dropped his pants next to his boxers. He cupped her cheeks and kissed her, caressing her legs.
She moaned against his lips when he inserted a finger inside her.
He moved it so soft and slow, torturing her.
A second finger appeared, but did not increase him rhythm.
The heat ran through her from head to toe, while she bit her lower lip to suppress the gasps and rudeness that would come out of her mouth.
Until he stopped his hand. She lifted her hips, seeking movement. But instead, he pulled her fingers from inside her.
"Steve..." She fell silent when she felt the blond's member brushing against her entrance.
He was rubbing into her, while Kary gasped for more.
"Call me 'Captain' again and I swear I'll fuck you so hard you'll never forget it." He spoke caressing his girlfriend's cheek
"I understand perfectly... Captain..."
He entered her with a single thrust, Kary let out a moan so loud, she was glad no one was there because the whole tower would have heard it.
The blond's moans were heard at a low volume, he was frowning as he rammed into her with his hands firm on her hips.
She spread kisses from her chest to her neck, feeling the girl's hands pressing on her shoulders.
It moved carelessly, and it made Kary roll her eyes. The obscene sound of her could be heard perfectly when the captain entered her and came out of her, crashing into her.
Steve grabbed one of the girl's legs, pulling it over his shoulder, reaching deeper.
Kary arched her back and dug her nails into her boyfriend's back as he increased his pace and began circling her clit.
His legs began to shake and he felt her walls tighten around him.
They both joined in a kiss before letting go of the knot they felt, muffling the sounds coming from their mouths.
He started to slow down, and when Kary thought he was going to come out, he grabbed her waist and sat on the bed, letting her fall on top of him.
This time it was going even faster, rougher and deeper, while Kary was still sensitive, he hadn't even let her recover. Her legs trembled, she could barely hold herself up, so it was the captain who controlled her movements, while she whimpered between moans from excessive pleasure, resting her head on her boyfriend's shoulder.
"Come on, precious.."
"Steve, it's too much," she spoke between moans.
"Do you want me to stop?"
"No..." she looked at him and denied, joining her lips to his.
They were like this for a few minutes, but it didn't last long because they were still sensitive.
The room was filled with the uncontrolled moans of both.
"Almost, love..." Kary heard in her ear, for a few seconds later, letting go in her second orgasm.
Finally they stopped to recover and normalize their breathing. They were both exhausted.
They settled in the girl's bed, to be able to rest.
"Today had better be a peaceful day and a mission doesn't come up unexpectedly, because I don't think I can walk, and... God no! We didn't record the interview, Steve."
"Well... If it was recorded, and not exactly an interview..."
She turned to the camera, seeing the red light that indicated that it was still recording. "Shit.."
Steve started to laugh, while Kary reached out her hand, turning off the camera with her powers.

Scent
Summary: Orange and bergamot always meant fear and pain.
Pairings: Dark!Steve Rogersxreader, Dean Winchesterxreader
Warnings: attempted kidnapping, hair pulling, bruises.
Authors note: The word I got was scent. This is what I came up with. Life has not been kind to me lately, so hopefully, this sleepover can help me work some things out. I had no beta, so all grammar and spelling mistakes are mine. Thanks, @the-slumberparty
Bright citrus and bergamot hung in the bunker, softly wafting under my nose and waking me up. I shot up like a light, the scent instantly taking me back to New York and the Tower. My heart raced in my chest as I was suddenly overcome by memories. I tried to stop myself before panic could take over, reminding myself that he didn't even know where I was, but even through the deep breaths, the panic lingered on the edges of my mind.
I slowly got out of bed, tugging on one of Dean's flannels, and eased the door open. The scent was faint here, outside the door, but I slowly followed it along the hallway, past the library, and down the hall again, nervousness slowly taking over the closer I edged to the kitchen. The scent was stronger here, and I gently pushed the door open to where the scent was the strongest.
But there was nothing. No one lingered behind the door in the dark and the kitchen was as quiet as it was yesterday before I'd gone to bed. I took a deep, steadying breath and turned around to go back to bed, already chastising myself for being scared over nothing when I smelled it again.
This time it was right in front of my nose, the cheerful notes of orange and bergamot almost gleefully laughing at me now. This was no dream. I kept my eyes closed, the scent of orange permeating my entire being. I didn't want to open my eyes, didn't want to be faced with reality, but I slowly opened my eyes to see Steve standing there in front of me.
I felt my heart sink. He'd found me. Somehow, some way, he'd found me. I didn't try to hide my expression, didn't try to hide the sadness and anger that swept over me in large waves, threatening to bring me down.
Steve met my gaze, his eyes both cold and happy at the same time. "I told you, sweetheart, that I would find you no matter where you went. It's time to come home." I could hear the soft command in his voice, knew he was serious. But I couldn't make my feet move, couldn't do anything but pray silently to Cas, hoping he'd hear me.
I stayed still, "No." My one thought was spoken softly at first, but I was firmer as I repeated myself. "No, I won't go." Steve didn't say anything, but his angry expression spoke volumes. He reached out and grabbed my arm, twisting it hard as he drove me back towards the bedrooms. I tried to stop him but I was no match for a super soldier no matter how hard I tried to fight.
He shoved me towards the bedrooms as the soft woosh of wings filled the bunker. Cas. I heard his footsteps and turned around, running toward the sound of his voice calling out my name. Steve was hot on my heels, and he caught up with me before yanking me back toward him as I rounded the corner, my eyes catching on not just Cas, but Dean too.
I fell onto the floor, wincing as Steve yanked me back by my hair. The only thing I could smell in the air now was strong and sharp, like the air before a thunderstorm. Over my head, the men traded barbs as the air almost became electrified, the scents swirling and sparking in the air. The fight would have been comical had I been paying attention to how short it was.
Cas and Sam, who I didn't even know was there, managed to subdue Steve, shoving him towards the entrance of the bunker even as he promised me he'd find me again. His voice rang out even as the Angel held him back, "There is nowhere you can't run, sweetheart."
His words echoed in my head as I stared at Dean, a bruise slowly forming on his face. My face grew hot, my eyes pricked with tears and I felt my lip wobble as I stared at him. He opened his arms and I flew across the room toward him, his soft grunt reached my ears I collided with him.
He held me tightly in his arms, whispering in my hair, and the scent of orange and bergamot was slowly replaced by the soft, earthly scent of sage, the woody scent of cedar and florals. I closed my eyes and breathed in Dean's scent, the panic receding as I calmed down. This feeling of warmth spread through my chest, this was home.
Right here in Dean's arms, safe and protected, just like he always promised me, was the scent of sage and cedar and it would always be what I loved best.

you weren’t even doing anything wrong. it was Bucky. Bucky was the one who went into Daddy’s art supplies, not you, but you were still getting blamed for it.
Bucky had tried to stand up for you, but Daddy told him to be quiet, and he was sent to his room, while you were stuck there, getting yelled at for something that wasn't even your fault.
"how many times have i told you, y/n? you have your own art supplies in your playroom!" he began to shout, and you shot up from the seat and ran to find Bucky, tears and sobs escaping your mouth, as you heard Steve chasing after you, shouting that you needed to stop.
"Buck!" you shouted, coming barreling into the play room.
"wa's wrong, y/n/n?" he asked, abandoning his legos. his question was answered, however, when Steve came into the room, his face red and angry.
"little girl, get your butt back here, this instant." he said, and you shook your head. you moved to hide behind Bucky, and buried your face in his sweater.
"Dada, why you so mad?" Bucky asked.
"your sister got into my art supplies, and is now lying to me about it." he said, his hands resting on his hips.
"b-but-" Bucky said, desperate to defend you, but Steve cut him off.
"no, don't go making excuses for her."
"i not!"
"she's the one in trouble, not you-"
"Dada, i da one who did it!" Bucky shouted, and Steve shut his mouth immediately, the anger disappearing in an instant. "she wan'ed a colourin' page, and i thought dat you put dem in your office, so i went to wook! dey were under your art supp'ies so i just moved dem!" he explained and Steve sighed, running a hand over his face. "i sorry i forgot to put dem back, but don' blame y/n/n for it!" Bucky began to shout, his voice rising in volume.
Bucky turned around and wrapped you in his arms, letting you cry.
"baby girl, i'm so sorry." Steve said, trying to approach you, but you shrieked as he came closer, and Bucky jumped into protective mode.
"no, Dada!" Bucky said. "don' go near her! you upset her! i mad at you!"
"buddy, i just want to comfort her," Steve tried to explain, but Bucky shook his head.
"no! you make her cwy! i comfort her, you go 'way!" he insisted, and lifted you up into his arms. "c'mon, y/n/n, wet's go outside." he said, carrying you to the back door, leaving Steve standing in the playroom, unsure how to fix the mess he made with his two babies.

Absolution
Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary; Steve is your next door neighbor, and while he might be Captain America, to you he's just Steve.
masterlist
Tumblr media
Your first impression of Steve was that his mother had definitely raised him right. You had run into him, quite literally, outside the apartment building that you shared. You knew you had a new neighbor but had yet to meet him, so when you were distracted trying to dig your keys out of your purse, you ran into a firm chest and promptly lost your footing. A large hand shot out and grabbed your arm to steady you, a “Sorry, miss.” immediately following.
You grabbed onto the hand that held you in thanks, looking up at the man above you and you just remembered thinking how godlike he was. Leave it to you to crash into a literal adonis, and then have him apologize. “No, I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying any attention.” You shook your head, slightly flustered as he removed his hand from your arm and smiled easily down at you.
“The same can be said for me, so I’ll apologize as well.”
It was at this moment you figured he must be the new guy across the hall, the one who always left earlier and came back later than you. Not that you were listening in, it was just hard not to hear the door across from yours close with the thin walls of the apartment complex. You must have spent too long thinking, because he was the one who spoke next again.
“You’re the woman who lives across the hall from me, right? I don’t think we’ve met yet.” He extended a hand toward you. “My name’s Steve.” He didn’t offer a surname, and you didn’t think to ask for one.
You grabbed his hand in yours and shook gently. “I’m Y/N. Again, sorry about bumping into you.” You introduced with a nervous chuckle.
His smile was disarming. “Then I’m sorry again, as well. I was just heading out to work, but it was lovely to meet you Y/N.”
“Nice to meet you too, Steve.” You’d be lying if you said you didn’t watch him walk off down the bustling street before letting yourself into the complex.
The next time you saw Steve, it was an early evening knock on your front door. You opened it to see your neighbor standing sheepishly outside the door, hands tucked behind his back, and you were acutely aware that you were already in your I Love Lucy pajama pants.
“Hey, Steve.” You said with a smile, opening the door wide and leaning against the frame.
“Hey! Sorry, I know it’s getting late, I was just wondering if I could ask for your help with something?” He looked anywhere but your eyes as he spoke, seemingly embarrassed.
You blinked before nodding. “Of course. Did you want to come in?” You gestured vaguely inside your apartment.
“It’s actually an issue with my tv, if you were okay coming to mine?” You didn’t think he could look anymore unsure of himself, an odd take on such a strong looking man. Choosing to forgo your hesitancy at your pajamas, instead striving to make him more comfortable, you nodded.
“Lead the way. I could get lost, you know.” He chuckled a bit, turning on his heel and opening the door to his apartment, leading you in.
You tried your best not to seem nosy, but couldn’t help glancing around at the sparse decorations. Just a couch, coffee table, and a tv were in his living room. The tv is what seemed to have his attention when he pulled you to a stop in front of it.
“I uh, have never been much of a technology person but an.. acquaintance of mine chose to get me this,” He gestured broadly to the flat screen attached to the wall. “As a gift and I can’t seem to figure out how to access the movie I want.”
Deciding it was more refreshing than odd that he didn’t know how to access a streaming service, you plucked the offered remote from his hand. “Do you know what the movie was on?”
He reached a hand into the back pocket of his jeans and withdrew a small brown notebook, flipping a page before hesitantly saying. “Netflix?”
You nodded, examining the kind of remote in your hand for a minute before taking a step closer to his side, lifting it in front of you two. “Do you see the button that has a few squares on it? That’s the menu, and this looks like a smart tv. So you just click that.” Which you did at that point, a menu with different streaming services lighting up the screen. “And scroll until you find Netflix.” You continued, clicking on the chosen app. Steve seemed enraptured, taking the details in. “From there, you can go to the magnifying glass on the left and type in the name of the movie. Which is?”
A faint blush painted his cheeks, a hand rubbing at the back of his head. “Pulp Fiction.”
You gave a mock gasp, hand slapping over your heart. “You’ve never seen Pulp Fiction, Steve? It’s a cult classic.”
He chuckled a bit, furrowing his eyebrows. “Cult classic? That sounds like I should stay away from it.”
“Nay nay,” You replied, typing the name in. “It means you need to see what all the hype is about.”
You returned the remote back to him, the movie queued and ready to be played whenever he wanted. “Was there anything else you need help with?”
He gazed at you for a moment, and you fought the blush rising on your cheeks. “I don’t think I have any more technical problems, no.”
You gave him a smile, starting to head toward his front door. “Glad to be of service, neighbor.”
His voice stopped you with your hand on the knob. “Y/N?”
“Yeah?” You said, biting your lip and turning to him.
He gestured to the kitchen and it was just then that you smelled something baking in the oven. “I’m making lasagne. Would you maybe like to join me for the movie?”
Your heart fluttered, and you did your best to convince yourself that he just wanted a bit of company.
Yes, this gorgeous man just wants someone to watch Pulp Fiction with and that person is you.
You nodded, backtracking toward him. “Did you need any help with dinner?’
He shook his head, gesturing to the couch. “You’re my guest! Just have a seat and I’ll go grab the food.”
The next day, you spent more of your day off than you cared to admit thinking about Steve. The movie was great, despite his lackluster review, he seemed to enjoy his time. The lasagne was great, and he appreciated the little jokes you’d made throughout the film. You left feeling like you had a friend in him, and were hoping he felt the same. But today you’d been plagued with thoughts of him. You barely knew him, but he seemed unnervingly familiar.
So that’s what brought you to sitting at your kitchen counter, laptop opened to google in front of you and fingers poised to type in the name Steve. You figured the odds of you finding any actual information was low, considering this was New York and the name Steve wasn’t exactly uncommon, but it didn’t hurt to try. After typing in his first name, google starting spurting out every suggestion under the sun for articles about a man named Steve Rogers.
God, that name sounded familiar. Was he a B-List actor or something?
You clicked on the first search result, ‘Steve Rogers 2012’ and hit the images tab.
Uh. Was the only recurring thought in your head. This was your Steve, 100%. Right down to the boy next door grin and 6’3 frame. But why did most of these photos pop up in black and white, with Steve in some sort of costume? It took much longer than you would’ve liked to click.
Captain America.
You spent the remainder of your afternoon shamelessly searching stories about him, everything from the serum to the commandos to being trapped in ice for 70 years, no wonder he had trouble pulling Netflix up.
You spent all of two seconds being curious why he hadn’t told you, but quickly realized that it was honestly none of your business. He was your neighbor, becoming your friend, but it must be so hard to be in his position. You couldn’t imagine what it was like to wake up in a time you didn’t recognize, all of your friends either on their deathbed or already crossed over. You resolved yourself then to not mention it until he did, because he was still Steve. Just Steve.
The next few weeks were spent watching a plethora of movies with Steve. You switched apartments everytime, whoever was hosting would make the food. His personal favorite that you’d seen so far had surprisingly been Die Hard. It wasn’t one that you loved, but you could see the appeal. One night, instead of him showing up at your door at the usual time, you received a text from him.
Business trip for a few days, I’ll contact you when I can.
-Steve
You tried not to let it upset you. He had never spoken about what his ‘job’ was, but given your previous knowledge you had a pretty good guess that it was something government related. No way was America going to unearth it’s super soldier and let him go into retirement. You texted back a simple message, saying to be safe and you’d talk to him whenever he was able.
It was two days without a text when you began to worry, you sat on your couch in the apartment just kind of looking at your phone, debating sending him a text just to check in. Your fingers were sliding across the screen, trying the best way to not seem clingy when a sudden explosion rocked the vase on your corner table.
You blinked, confused, and just sat still for a moment trying to decipher where it came from. It wasn’t 30 seconds later that another boom rocked the building, and you could hear the panicked cries from the streets below through your cracked living room window.
Tossing your phone to the side you stood quickly, rushing over to your window to look outside.
Holy shit.
There were creatures everywhere, herding citizens down the street and smashing into buildings on either side. You glanced at the sky to see some of them airborne, the supposed epicenter being a literal whole in the sky.
Without a second thought you rushed to your bedroom and retrieved your handgun from the safe, tucking it into your waistband and grabbing your jacket. Your father had been an ex-marine, and while you weren’t the most capable person, you were sure you were better off than the screaming civilians below.
Which meant you needed to act.
You didn’t bother to grab your phone, and rushed out of your apartment and down the stairs. The scene outside the front doors of your complex could only be described as chaos. Your eyes honed in on a small boy across the street, being backed into the mouth of an alley by two of the alien creatures. You quickly rushed over, one round into the back of each distracted head dropped them and you scooped the boy up, looking around for a parent.
“Where’s your parents?” You asked firmly, trying to get him to point in a direction.
“Jamie!!” The voice came first, a woman full tilt running down the street in your direction. You handed her son off, accepting her gratitude and instructing her to get to the bank on 34th. That building would be the sturdiest around.
You noticed a brigade of the aliens making their way down the street towards you and the panicking mother, so you pushed her into movement down the street, telling her to go and you’d meet her there.
You dropped the magazine from your pistol, taking a look at the bullets you had and realizing how dumb it was that you didn’t think to bring extra ammo. In your defense, this was an alien invasion. You were doing much better than you could have hoped.
They were on you quicker than you would have liked, but it would have to do. You shot three times, dropping two of them and wrestling with the third. You tried to avoid the panic creeping into your bones as you struggled to fight off the last one. A well timed swipe from it had your side burning, a laceration cropping up there. You let go and stumbled back a bit as it advanced on you, but it was sent to the ground by a projectile hitting it firmly in the head.
You struggled to catch your breath and looked for the owner of the weapon. And there he was, standing there in all of his super hero glory, Captain America.
He walked swiftly to you, grabbing you by the arms and trying to examine your wound. “What are you doing outside, Y/N?” He asked, a firm cadence in his voice. So this was professional Steve Rogers.
“There were people that needed help, Steve.” You answered, one hand gripping the arm he was using to hold you up. His eyes met yours in surprise, analyzing your face.
“How long have you known?” His voice seemed a whisper amid the chaos of the city.
You shook your head, pushing off the totaled car you were leaning on and setting a hand on the chest of his suit. “A discussion for another time. You’re a bit busy, Captain.”
He clenched his jaw, glancing around the two of you. “You’re injured.” He said simply.
You smiled at him, trying to assuage his anxiety. “I’ll go to the bank on 34th, I’m sure they’re setting up some sort of triage. I’ll be fine getting there, but you’re needed elsewhere.”
He seemed torn. “Y/N-” You cut him off with a swift, chaste kiss to his lips. A dumbstruck look crossing his features as you pulled back and began to step away.
“Go save the world, Steve. We’ll talk after.”
When he found you again, the gash on your side had been stitched and patched, and you were helping the other medics with the lower level injuries. Or just calming general panic. You didn’t see him at first, but noticed the gazes of the civilians around you fixed firmly on something behind you.
By the time you turned to him he was standing directly behind you, concern flowing in his blue eyes as he assessed your injuries. “Are you okay?”
You smiled, doing the same for him and looking at the cuts on his cheek. “I’m going to be perfectly fine. Are you okay?”
He nodded, rubbing a hand across the back of his head and eyeing the people around you. “I have to go tie some loose ends, but I wanted to make sure you’re okay. I past our apartment complex on the way here and it seems like it’s still standing. Can I meet you there in a few hours?” It seemed like he expected a no.
“Of course. I’m going to help out here for a bit longer, and then I’ll head home. I’ll even cook dinner tonight, since you were the one who saved the world.”
He chuckled, a hand coming up to wipe some of the dirt from your cheek. “I’d like that.”

Tis the Damn Season
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Words: 4.8k
The second fic in my Folklore and Evermore Collection
Other fics in the collection: The 1
Her head swarmed with frustration and anger and she finally noticed that she had pulled into the parking lot in front of the methodist church. She laughed to herself as she rested her head on the wheel. Of course she’d come here. Stupid. She moved to put the car in reverse and go somewhere, anywhere else, when taillights in her rearview mirror caught her eye. The air forcibly left her lungs in one swift exhale as she recognized that old, beat up, blue pickup.
---------------------------------------------------------
The familiar musty scent of beer and an unfortunate mixture of perfumes and colognes met her nose as she entered the bar. Faces more weathered than her memory had stored them greeted her as she weaved through. The motion of dodging through these people had become muscle memory, though the setting had shifted some years back from crowded high school hallways to this cramped hometown bar. She settled into a seat at the bar and shrugged off her coat, and once she had a gin and tonic in hand she was far more prepared to deal with the sea of semi-familiar faces around her.
It was all cordial hellos, obligatory “so what are you doing these days?”, or “how’s your family?” or “congratulations on your engagement or your promotion or your pregnancy or whatever else someone could be congratulated on ten years out from high school”. Small talk was easy, but grating, people couldn’t help but joke about how cold she must be here after coming from LA, or asking about contracts or jobs that she wasn’t allowed to talk about. Insincerity leaked from between their clenched, grinning teeth as they would ask “remember when we sat next to each other in bio? We sure had some good times. Did you say you were on set with Angelina Jolie last month?” They would say “It’s amazing that your career is taking off like this, it’s a tough industry” or they’d jab an all too sharp elbow into her side with a far too comfortable smile and say “If you ever need some company out there in LA, call me.”
Fake smiles and performed familiarity left her exhausted and frustrated as she worked on her third drink in a brief moment to herself. She took the time to scan the room and survey if anyone worth talking to had showed up. She was just about coming up empty when a crowded table in the corner caught her eye. She might have missed him with the swarm of people he was sitting with, except for his cold blue stare. She could never miss his eyes, even if she wanted to. Steve Rogers would never not be the first person she could pick out of a crowd. They held eye contact for a moment, air tense, background voices dimmed to a dull ringing in their ears as they returned to a long unpracticed art of reading one another.
She said hello with a quirked brow, he remained impassive, so she sipped her drink and narrowed her eyes, the corner of his lip tugged ever so slightly upwards, her shoulders released the slightest bit of tension, his jaw clenched, her eyes softened, he turned his head to speak to someone else. It seemed that neither was satisfied with the interaction, if it could even be called that. Nonverbal conversations used to be their secret, an inside joke in a room full of unsuspecting idiots. Suddenly she wished she couldn’t read him quite so well anymore.
One drink and a few more awkward conversations later, fresh soap and pine and firewood reached her nose and she knew he was about to pass her on his way out. At the peak of the scent a gentle brush against her side informed her that her estimates of his whereabouts were correct and she sat glued to her seat, forcing herself not to look. But nostalgia and curiosity and possibly a dash of hopeless romanticism grabbed her by the chin after a few moments and led her eyes to the muscular frame headed for the door. He paused, hand on the door, and as if he could sense it, looked up and met her eyes. There it was again, and her heart strung with icy blue hurt. He was gone within moments but she had felt an eternity in that eye contact.
One of the comforts of being home was the ability to zone out on drives through her sleepy, small hometown. Her eyes stayed on the road and her body mechanically brought her home as she thought about seeing Steve in the bar. Flashes of a dizzying high school romance intermixed with memories of the aching emptiness that followed. The feelings existed out of sync with one another.
At home, she only enjoyed a mere few minutes of peace before her mother began her favorite line of questioning. “Why did you have to go so far away sweetheart? We miss you.” Her mother began. With a deep breath, she braced herself. “You know why, Mom. You know I wanted to act. I couldn’t have done that here.” The words fell from her lips with no thought, muscle memory had taken over. “I just don’t see why that had to be the only option. You could make a nice life for yourself here. I mean did you really want to get away from us that badly?” “Jesus, Mom. You know that’s not why I left. We’ve been over this.” The argument went in progressively louder circles for who knows how long. After enough nothing, Y/N silently grabbed her coat. She called, “I’m going for a drive.” Before shutting the front door behind her and getting into her car.
Muscle memory is a crazy thing. She hadn’t thought about where she was going, she only knew that she had to get away for a minute.
It seemed like she had no control over anything she did anymore, as she felt herself getting out of her car. Her brain was sounding all the alarms, telling her to stop, to turn around, get back in her car, and continue her personal pity party as far away from here as possible. Maybe even back in LA at this point. But her legs carried her forward nonetheless until finally she stood on the passenger side of the truck, staring through the window.
His head rested on his steering wheel the same way hers had a few moments ago, he hadn’t seen her yet. Despite all of her rational reasoning, she raised a timid hand and gently knocked against the glass. He jolted upright once at the sound and then again when he realized who was standing in front of him. She figured she was in too deep now, no running away, so she reached out and opened the door, climbed into the passenger seat and nearly had to hold back tears as she felt her skin against its familiar leather. With all the composure she could muster, she looked over at his still stunned face. “Wanna go for a drive?” She asked, and wordlessly, he started the car.
Silence filled the space, wrapped them both up in a warm familiarity for the beginning of the drive. She knew the roads he was taking, leading them aimlessly around the town that made them who they were. There’s no telling how long they needed to sit and absorb each others’ presence, they only knew that they would speak when it felt right again. “What brought you to the lot?” He broke the silence, surprising her. That was traditionally her job. She shrugged. “My parents, pissed at me for leaving and going so far away.” He nodded and hummed. “I get that.” The silence hung between them once again. “What about you?” Guilt broke her first this time. “House felt empty, like I was seeing ghosts. Just wanted to clear my head.” His tone had a practiced evenness to it that she recognized from when he tried to hold back his feelings, like the day they broke up. “Feel like I should be apologizing for that.” She observed. He exhaled deeply. “Maybe. Maybe I should be too.” SIlence met them again and they embraced it, comfortably. She continued to sneak glances at him in the quiet, trying to read him as he drove, as he clearly was trying to close himself off to her.
She took another deep breath after a long while and broke the silence again. “So the bar was a bust, huh? I mean Bucky wasn’t even there.” His shoulders shook in a silent chuckle as she looked up in shock that he was even responding with anything other than snark or frustration. “Yeah, even Tony was acting like an ass tonight.” “Where was Nat? Or Sam? Felt like no one worth talking to was around.” “They’re busy with their lives. Although out of everyone, you were the one we all expected to show up the least.” that coldness leached back into Steve’s tone. “You guys were talking about it? Seriously?” Her brows knitted together and she crossed her arms. “I mean, come on. We all just thought you’d be on a movie set. Or with people cooler and richer than this whole town combined.” The coldness was barely there in his voice, he spoke matter-of-factly. “Nah, LA people suck. Trust me, they’ve got nothing on some of the people here. Some of them.” She put emphasis on that last bit and met Steve’s eyes as they stopped at a red light. He looked quickly back to the road as the light turned green and continued along. The silence surrounded them again. She broke it again. “I miss you.” It was barely a whisper. “Yeah.” He breathed deeply. “I miss you too.” Another stop sign, another quick glance. “But I’m sure you already knew that.” “I’m sorry.” She said once again, she didn’t even know why she was saying it anymore. He just shook his head. They rode in silence for a long time again. She wondered when silence became more comfortable with him than speaking. Somewhere after middle school, she guessed. Either way, there was a nostalgia to the quiet that wrapped her up and made her feel warm despite the guilt squeezing her by the lungs.
The truck rolled to a stop right where it had started. He put it in park and stared straight ahead. “Thanks for the ride.” She said, as her fingers grasped the door handle and she began to push the door open, Steve reached out and grabbed her by the arm. Muscle memory kicked in again as he pulled her to him, a hand threading through her hair as he placed his lips on hers. His tug on her arm had some force behind it, but the kiss itself was soft and gentle, more of a question than anything else. She could feel him holding himself back before she gave in and kissed him back like leaning into a multiple years long itch that was finally being scratched. As soon as she showed eagerness he let go completely, one of his hands was tangled in her hair, the other had snaked around her waist to rest on her back, pulling as close as he could over the center console. She took his shirt in one fist and placed a gentle palm on his cheek. She had been in her hometown for a little over a day now but she hadn’t felt really at home until this moment.
He tasted like peppermint and whiskey and she felt like she was drowning in him when he pulled back to look at her. They breathed heavily in time with one another, something that simple having brought them back into sync after all those years. He spoke first between labored breaths. “Meet me at my place?” “I’ll follow you there.”
The morning sunlight streaked through unfamiliar windows and it took Y/N a moment to comprehend where she was. She sat up in bed and surveyed the neat bedroom she found herself in. It was simple, just the bed, an armchair in the corner, and a large, overstuffed bookshelf. The door creaked open to reveal Steve, in just his boxers, holding two steaming mugs.
“Mornin’ sleepyhead” He said with a chuckle as he carefully slid back into bed next to her. He handed her one of the mugs and a large t-shirt of his. She pulled the shirt, soft and well worn, over her head and then took a sip, coffee exactly how she liked it. She looked over to him in surprise to find him watching her anxiously. Her shocked smile easily melted the worry lines above his brow as he let out what sounded like an involuntary laugh. “I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t have much faith in your high school preferences but I guess some things do never change.” She laughed and let out a playful scoff.
“Thank you,” she said sincerely. “For everything.” They sat, sipping in silence for another few moments before she spoke again. “I missed you.” “I missed you too, Sugar.” He let his old nickname for her fall from his lips for the first time in ten years and she knew he could see the way it made her breath catch in her throat. They stilled, reading each other as gently as possible, searching for safe waters to steer whatever this was towards. She made the first attempt. “So we didn’t get to talking much last night,” her lips twisted in a wry smile and he laughed and shook his head, tension leaving his shoulders. “How’ve you been? What have you been doing? When did you move out of your parents’ place? Catch me up on all that I’ve missed,” She leaned forward, elbows resting on her knees as she raised eyebrows along with her mug to her lips.
He smiled, softly, no teeth, a mix of fondness and hurt in his eyes, but not the accusatory kind she had seen at the bar. It was a dull, sort of throbbing ache that she was all too familiar with that swam in the expansive blue of his eyes. And he started talking. He moved out of his parents’ house about five years back. As soon as he had the money to do it he was out of there. It had been mostly work for the last ten years. He looked at her with a slight sadness as he sighed and said “not much else to report”. She shook her head. “I’m sure that’s not true Rogers, I’ll just have to get a good few drinks in you to hear whatever stories you’re holding back,” she poked him gently in the rib and he laughed. “Trust me, there really aren’t many stories to tell. Feels like this place got a whole lot less exciting once you left.” It was like someone attached a string to all the air in her lungs and yanked it out through her mouth.
“Why didn’t you? Leave, I mean” She asked carefully. “I don’t know, I always thought about it but I had a job and then I started to climb ranks and build something of my own so it all just kind of made sense here,” He trailed off. She saw his minute intake of breath and knew he had more to say. She gave him space to get it out. “Plus where would I go anyway?” He finally let out, quiet, maybe even a bit fearful, his voice quivering the slightest bit. She wanted to put a hand on his arm, tell him he could have always come to LA, stayed with her, but she knew better than to offer that. Instead she put her coffee down on the nightstand and curled into his side, resting her head in his lap.
“Do you ever want to leave?” “I don’t know.” He placed his mug down as well and ran fingers through her hair. “Sometimes. But I mostly like the life I’ve built. I see why you did though,” “You do?” She peered up at him. “Yeah. I mean, this place can be tough. I still don’t know why you wouldn’t stay with me, why you didn’t even want to try with us, but I can respect why you couldn’t stay here.” She sat up, bringing a hand to his face. He leaned into it, letting her fingers rake over stubble and caress his jaw and cheek bones. “I didn’t want to. I just had to get away and I was young and stupid and I didn’t know if I could truly leave if I still had anything here that I was holding on to. If only I’d known what LA was going to be like. That holding onto a piece of my soul might actually have saved me from a lot of pain down the line.” “Are you gonna leave again?” His eyes wouldn’t leave hers and she couldn’t look away, trapped by his gaze. There was no pressure, there was no ill-will or blame, simply an understanding, a sense of I will not be blindsided by this again.
“I’m here for the weekend, aren’t I?” His air rushed out of him. She could tell he was disappointed but he did a good job concealing most of it. She sat up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips, hoping it could convey so much of what she just felt too damn ineloquent to express in words, and then got out of bed and cleared away the coffee mugs. She brought them to the kitchen and rinsed them to give him a second to think, to just be alone. When she came back he looked calm, he had leaned back against his antique wooden headboard, his arms crossed and his brow uncreasing as he seemed to come out of a thought. “You’re here for the weekend?” he asked, gesturing a bit to the space around him, indicating his home. She giggled and nodded. “The whole damn weekend, if that’s ok with you?” She confirmed and he smiled, shoulders and eyebrows relaxing. “Oh that is more than ok with me, I’ll take what I can get, Sugar.” He looked at her with genuine joy it seemed, so much hurt now missing from his gaze. With a wink she turned and started into the bathroom. “Now just what are you getting up to?” He asked and she pulled his shirt over her head with a comfortable smile. “I had an absolutely filthy night last night, feels like I need to wash off.” She tossed the shirt at him, leaving her bare skin exposed, “You coming?” she asked. “Yes, Ma’am” he said, his tone soaked in reverence and eyes full of desire as he made his way after her.
48 hours is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but they stretched it for all it was worth. She made breakfast, he cooked dinner. They rarely left the house except for one extra large grocery run. They drank hot chocolate, they sat by the fireplace and watched movies, they went for a walk around his property, they kissed every chance they got and almost never stopped touching each other in some way. He held her like he knew he was going to have to let go far sooner than he’d like. She couldn’t stop staring at him, trying to memorize this version of him, of them together. They were an older, more mature version of themselves, free of adolescent sting and grudges but never quite escaping a quiet fog of sadness that sometimes tasted like regret if she closed her eyes and focused on it too hard.
The time flew by all too quickly. Suddenly she was packing her small bag, preparing for her flight the next day. She was carefully folding her clothes and trying not to focus too hard on how intently Steve was watching her. She knew him too well at this point, could feel the force of his willpower on her, his presence begging her to stay. But he didn’t say anything, so she didn’t either. She simply zipped up her bag, crawled into bed, grabbed him by the front of his shirt, and kissed him, lips meeting his with force and passion. He tangled a hand in her hair and wrapped his other arm around her waist and pulled her into him, and for just a second, it felt like no other words needed to be said.
Hours later, she rested her head on his chest, feeling his even breathing, listening to his steady heartbeat. She stared into the empty darkness of his room, mind in a rush to get nowhere in particular, jumping anxieties like changing trains in an endless commute. Where do we go from here? Do I just go back home and pretend none of this happens? Can I handle the same silence I sat in for ten years? WIll he miss me? She raced through uncertainties at a rapid pace, but always found herself coming back to the same question. Would he ever just ask me to stay? She wasn’t even sure if she knew what her answer would even be if he did, but she wondered nonetheless. She could feel his breathing hitch, his arm around her shift, she knew he was still awake. She wondered what he was thinking about. She stayed silent and hoped that for once he couldn’t read her like she knew he always could.
In the morning they dressed in silence. She gathered her things and he brought her a cup of coffee, offered wordlessly. They sat in his kitchen, sipping in silence, bodies tense for fear of inadvertently giving too much away. He spoke first, softly, almost timid. “When’s your flight?” “Around two, should probably head to my parents’ to say goodbye soon.” He nodded. “We can head over there whenever you’re ready.” “We?” she quirked her brow and bit back a smirk. “How else do ya think you’re gonna get to the airport, dummy?” He said as he placed his mug in the sink. He found himself frozen upon turning around, confronted with a beaming smile centered directly on him. Neither spoke. The air grew thick and hot around them, a question grew into a lump into his throat, pushed its way to the precipice of his tongue before he swallowed it back down and reached over to grab her empty mug. Her shoulders sunk ever so slightly with what he thought might be disappointment but he couldn’t be sure. “Thank you.” She said softly, “for the coffee and the ride” She paused for a moment. “And the weekend.” He smiled and shot her a quick wink. “Anytime, Sugar” It felt like physically holding herself together, trying not to melt in that moment, and she knew he saw the way she tensed up a bit.
Warm air and sunny skies greeted her as she stepped out of LAX, but a chill ran through her body nonetheless, frost emanating from what felt like an empty pit residing in her stomach. Her phone was already buzzing constantly, messages from her agent, her publicist, friends, everyone and anyone trying to get her attention now that her little “vacation” was over. With a sigh, she scrolled through the messages and eventually called her agent, grateful for the chance to throw herself back into work and shake off the icy blue chill that seemed to follow her all the way here.
LA was busy, there was always something to be done, someone to call or meet with, a script to read over, lines to learn, workout classes to take, personal grooming to be attended to. It kept her occupied, allowing for a distraction as her mind would wander. Even as months passed, her focus never fully narrowed, and there was only so much she could do before the scent of soap and pine needles and freshly cut wood began to seep through the edges of her imagination. They didn’t speak. She wasn’t sure what the protocol would be and they hadn’t had the time to talk about it so she just gave him space, wondering if he was still reeling from their rekindling as much as she was.
She went to parties, hung out with friends, but there was a vacancy there, like everyone looked right through her, or saw her as just another rung on their own ladder to success. She could feel the insincerity in their smiles, squeezing her close with bony, designer swaddled limbs and whispering “I missed you baby!” or “It’s so good to see you!” or “Bestie, how have you been!?” and then pulling away with a smug smirk like they knew they had just given the oscar-winning performance. She wanted nothing more than to tell somebody, anybody about Steve, about what she was going through, but she couldn’t trust anyone. Spilling to any of these people would have the tabloids on it in a second.
So she worked. And she gave her own insincere smiles and hellos that didn’t go below the surface. And she kept her head down. She made some decent movies. She put out some work that she was really proud of. She walked the red carpet alone. She was getting offers on a consistent basis now, being able to be more and more selective about what she wanted to work on. It wasn’t about survival anymore, it was about what she wanted. And suddenly she felt like she wasn’t so sure about that anymore.
She stood on the red carpet for her last film of the year, a cheesy christmas romance that she only had a supporting role in, bombarded by photographers and people yelling her name. She flashed her perfectly practiced smile and straightened out her classic, deep red, floor length gown before leaving the mark for someone else. The shuttering of cameras, the screaming fans and paparazzi and stressed out PAs, the flashing lights, the similarly overstimulated and overworked stars all faded behind her as she walked into the darkness of the theater, and for one singular moment, for the first time in almost exactly a year, she felt peaceful. She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text to her assistant, changed my mind, actually do book me that ticket for tomorrow? You’re the best, and then she sat down to enjoy her cheesy, silly movie.
She pulled into the driveway in a rental car that smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Through the windows she could see her mother fussing about, putting decorations in place, getting the house in order. It looked warm inside. The flight had been long and her head hurt and her body ached but she found herself locked in place, white knuckles on the wheel. She couldn’t pry her fingers away to open the door. Her head was spinning and her chest felt tight until she let muscle memory take over as she shifted the car into reverse and suddenly everything felt clear. She followed the roads on autopilot, knowing exactly where she would end up but feeling not entirely sure until she arrived.
Stepping out of the car was easy this time. Too easy, in fact. She left it running, door open as she followed the magnetic pull to his front door, adorned with a vibrant, homemade pine wreath. Her heart felt like it was clawing its way out of her body through her throat as she reached a shaking hand up and knocked on the door. She held her breath for a few stunned, silent, panicked moments until she heard movement somewhere inside the house. The air came out of her all in a rush as the door opened and there Steve Rogers stood, right in front of her, live and in the flesh, blue eyes wide as they landed on her. “Hi.” seemed to be the only thing he could get out.
“Hi.” She responded breathlessly. They stood, staring at each other for a long moment, and when he finally opened his mouth to speak she cut him off, letting the words just tumble out. “I’m so sorry I left, I’ve been so miserable this whole year and I just missed you so much and I regret everything I never should have left at all.” she paused for a deep breath. “Would you mind if I stay?” She could barely finish her question before he was pulling her in close, threading a hand through her hair and wrapping the other around her waist, and kissing her like there was nothing else he could ever need but this. He pulled back gently and rested his forehead against hers. “Is that a yes?” She asked, breathlessly. “What? And have waited for you all this time for nothing? Course I wouldn’t mind, Sugar.” He whispered before pulling her in for another kiss, slow, lazy this time, for he had no reason to rush, she had no other place to be, and they had nothing but time.

The mouse-like squeaks are the first to wake you, cracking open your eye to the dim room. Then the whispers from what sounds like two women are next to completely pull you from your slumber as they slide the curtains open to let the welcoming sun fill the once quiet space.
“Bonjour madame,” the blonde cheerfully smiles. Her burgundy pencil skirt suit pristine without a wrinkle in sight. “We’re here to assist with your day of pampering.”
A yawn slips past your lips as you sit up squinting from the sudden brightness. Sleep and confusion still heavy in your mind looking around to see a cart filled with toast, fruit, pancakes, and more. Steve didn’t tell you anything about an event yesterday.
“I um, think you have the wrong room.” Her eyebrows furrow looking down at her clipboard and skimming along whatever words were written.
“This is room 628, no? And you are Mr. Rogers’ guest, Y/N?”
“Well yea but-,”
“He ordered this for you. And left this note madame,” she adds handing you the small folded paper you can already tell is his handwriting.
I know a thing or two about romance lolli. See you tonight at 7
“Flowers for Miss Y/N,” another voice announces knocking at the door. The brunette next to the blonde - you assume the assistant - opens the door with a pleasant “thank you” before returning back to your bedroom with a bouquet of light purple tulips. You can’t stop your lips from curling as she places them in your hands. Their sweet smell immediately filling your nostrils while you delicately run the pad of your finger along one of the soft petals.
“First we do breakfast. Then shopping, followed by massage and facial, hair, makeup, and mani-pedi. This okay?”
“Yes, definitely more than.”
-
Sitting at the downstairs bar, Steve looks down at the black Rolex on his wrist for the tenth time in the span of five minutes. His usual calm demeanor, noticeably a bit antsy waiting for you to join him. He couldn’t even focus during his meetings constantly wondering if you were enjoying yourself. If those working were handling you with the care you deserved and granting your every wish.
Seven on the dot and you were nowhere to be found. Given, you were probably on your way down now, but what if you weren’t? What if you were actually offended by his gesture and misinterpreting his note to think he only did this for his ego?
He waits though, trying to calm his mind as he fixes his tie then adjusts the sleeves of his black tux.
7:05 and still nothing.
Just as his Italian leather dress shoes hit the tile ready to journey up to the room, he feels every ounce of oxygen leave his body watching you stride towards him. Your curls sat beautifully atop your head in a bun, while the pink satin dress clung to you like a glove. It’s high slit and deep v showing your smooth, shimmery skin tempting him - and probably every other man in sight - for just one touch.
“Sorry, I would’ve been down sooner but emergency potty break,” you shyly smile.
“S’alright, and definitely worth the wait.” His grin has you flustered and whole face heating. “You look beautiful Y/N.”
“Thanks. You’re not bad yourself Mr. Rogers.”
He chuckles a “thanks” before offering his bent arm to escort you out of the bar beginning to grow busier. “You ready?”
Nodding, you let him lead you through the grand lobby where eyes followed both of you out the double doors held open by the two men usually standing guard there. Whispers flowing with every step wondering who you were and in awe of your beauty.
The both of you, really.
Of course you saw how gazes lingered on Steve as if entranced by his walk dripping with confidence. His dominant aura holding them hostage and refusing to let them go.
Tightening your hold on his bicep ever so slightly, you remind yourself that you’re the one on his arm before your head tries to dip low letting that “fish out of water” feeling ruin your excitement.
“Mr. Rogers. Madam,” the chauffeur greets with a warm smile standing beside the all black sedan and holding open the back passenger side door for you both to enter. It’s interior black as well with smooth, leather seats and that new car smell still present along the lining.
“Where to sir?”
“Rêvasser please.” With a simple nod, the car carefully pulls onto the street while Steve rises the partition with the press of an overhead button.
“You know, you didn’t have to go through all this to prove you’re a romantic,” you state meeting his glacier like eyes serious as if he was about to make you a deal. Well, another one.
“I’m not doing this just to prove something Y/N. You’re part of this agreement too, and I wanna make sure I’m doing for you just as much as you’re doing for me - and no, not out of obligation. If I didn’t truly care, I wouldn’t have done anything at all. You know that.”
He was right. Steve was a no nonsense type of man who moved with intent.
What he said, he meant, and if he did something, he was all in.
There’s a sudden heaviness in the air as your gazes stay locked. You momentarily forget to breathe under the intensity - yet underlying softness - of his eyes before you can’t take it anymore. Shyly looking down to your fingers and painted nails in your lap.
“Well, um t-thank you,” you nervously smile. “So this place we’re going, you’ve been before?”
“Once or twice. It’s nice; I think you’ll love it.” You nod, but the way your knee bounces he can tell what flashes through your mind. “Hey, it’s just us. No associates or higher ups to impress.”
Besides you you think lifting your head to flash him a softer smile noticeably more relaxed.
It’s only a few minutes later that the car slows to stop in front of a building seemingly made of glass that stood just as high as the others around. The silver accents along the doors and walls in the form of frames and screens made it look futuristic as you and Steve were led through the dimly lit lobby to the large elevators towards the back.
“Are we eating on the moon?,” you jokingly ask taking note of the RFT button brightly lit at the top of the panel.
“Something like that,” Steve chuckles. His fingers slipping through yours by your side makes tingles spread up the entirety of your arm while anxiously waiting for the final ding to signal you’d arrived to whatever he had planned for you.
“Mr. Rogers. Miss,” the lean, suited man smiles extending his arm just as the metal doors slide open to reveal a runway of white petals leading to a circular table. The only table waiting on the quiet rooftop deck.
The sheer tablecloth - covered with two elegant place settings - lightly blows from the passing breeze appearing even more dreamy than before as you both step closer. A small smile spreads across Steve’s lips watching you take in everything with lips slightly parted and clear awe in your features. It surprisingly has a redness and heat creeping along his ears making him feel like a teenage boy.
Coincidentally, the last time he ever blushed.
“What do you think?”
“I honestly can’t right now,” you softly laugh looking from the table to the amazing view of clouds and a setting sun painting the sky a mix of orange and pink in front of you. “Steve this…I…it’s beautiful.”
That adorable smile, along with the little crinkles beside your eyes, will forever be ingrained in his mind. The way the setting sun complimented your skin making you look so ethereal and goddess-like, he’s seconds from picking up his old hobby of drawing again just so he can capture this moment to hold for himself.
God, your beauty was something that wasn’t found every day. Just a mere glimpse of you and Steve could feel his usual hard and unreadable composure falter.
And this wasn’t just about your physical features. The way your light personality made him stray from the calculated man his position created him to be - always looking for the next deal with no time for distractions - and brought a new burst of life he quickly wanted to chase after.
Pulling out your seat, he waits for you to get comfortable before helping to scoot in your chair; loving the faint whiff of your sweet perfume that tickles his nostrils. Your eyes stay glued to his chest where his white button down stretches against his pecs as he removes his suit jacket before taking his own seat to join you.
Mentally he’s smirking feeling your eyes pleasurably enjoying such a small task, and when he briefly looks up from his menu to see you quickly look down at yours, obviously flustered, he physically feels his ego grow twice it’s size.
“See anything you like?,” he asks feigning innocence and pure wonder as if referring to the list of gourmet dishes, but you both know otherwise.

Your giggles can surely be heard down the hall as Steve effortlessly carries you to your room. The two bottles of champagne and award worthy five course meal clearly enhancing your bubbly and playful mood.
At your mere casual comment of being ready to get out your heels, he took it upon himself to lift you in his bulky arms as soon as you entered the lobby. The receptionist, and a couple other onlookers, either quietly giggling or awing at the sweet gesture.
“Steve I can walk perfectly fine,” you whisper ducking your head into his neck trying to hide from the attention.
“I know,” he simply responds before nodding hello to the bellhop as the older gentleman hits the top button for the clearly occupied businessman.
“You two have a good night.”
When you finally reach your door, he gently places you on your feet to remove the keycard from his pocket. All the while, his large hand still on your waist keeping you close in front of him.
“Thank you,” you smile as he ushers you in the elegant suite. “And I better not get a bill from your chiropractor. I tried to get you to put me down in the elevator.”
He simply just held you tighter telling you to, “enjoy the ride.”
“You won’t,” he softly chuckles.
With a dramatic, euphoric sigh, you flop back on the bed with arms above your head as you let your body be comforted and caressed by the plush, Egyptian cotton. So incredibly soft and cool you just knew lying on a cloud would feel exactly the same. He knew you didn’t mean for it to, but watching you innocently lie there with all your curves and dress slightly rising as you gently squirmed getting more comfortable had his feet glued and front of his pants beginning to feel tighter wishing he was the reason for those little movements and moans.
Clearing his throat, he tries to distract himself with removing his tie but it’s embarrassingly more difficult than usual.
“Need some help there?”
“N-No..I guess I uh tied this knot a little too tight.”
“Here let me.” Before he can protest, you’re at his chest carefully working at the tightened knot - and his eyes unable to leave your lips pressed together in concentration - until it’s loose and able to be pulled through his collar. “Done.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.” Although finished you don’t move, and neither does Steve holding his tie by his side. Each of your eyes taking in every beautiful facial feature of the other until they fall to each other’s waiting lips. You’re the first to move slowly leaning in until your mouth’s make contact. Sparks tingling against your skin and tongue with every swipe only making you crave more as you press your body closer to his.
“Don’t feel like you have to do this,” he breaths resting his forehead against yours.
“I don’t. And knowing you’d never expect anything in return only makes me want you more Stevie.”
He doesn’t even cringe on your use of his childhood nickname he’s that entranced by you. Plus it just sounds oh so sweet rolling off your tongue.
His left hand finds the side of your neck as the other slowly slides the strap of your dress down your shoulder so he’s able to kiss and nip with no barriers. You’re a mess of slick and whimpers already feeling his soft lips travel from your collarbone to the top of your breast. Soon he’s back to your lips as if trying to steal your breath - and ability to think clearly at this rate - until his body comfortably presses you into the mattress and your legs automatically wind around his hips. Your fingers move frantically trying to unfasten the buttons of his shirt, but then your wrists are locked above your head while Steve’s nimble finger teases between your slit dragging upwards until he reaches your needy little nub.
You try to suppress your moans in fear of being too loud as your back begins to arch, but the way he circles and rubs it just right you can’t help the way your lips slightly part allowing them to easily fill the warmly lit space.
“Tonight’s all about you Lolli, remember?”

Within the Ashes (1/??)
Summary: You’ve spent your life working for someone else. You watch their back, you protect them, but you’re left feeling empty and unfulfilled at the end of the day. What happens when a freak accident transports you to a different dimension, very nearly identical to your own?
A/N: Please understand this has been in my head for almost a year at this point and started out with the reader being an LMD without knowing it. That’s definitely not the situation with the story now, but please know it’s been through a lot of Idea Workshopping lmao. Also, the version of the FF that’s in this story is definitely a very Fanfiction-ified version, but it’s my coping mechanism, so I decide who’s good and who’s gay. Thank u for coming to my preface, please enjoy the first chapter.

“Reed, I honestly don’t think we should test it today.”
“And why’s that?”
“Promise you’ll take my concerns seriously? Because you’ve been a dick about it every other time.”
Without looking away from his screens, Reed suggests, “How about you tell me, and I’ll do my level best to keep an open mind.”
“Fine.” It’s not much, but she knows it’s the best she’ll get. “I just have a bad feeling about it.”
“Another gut feeling?” He finally turns his head to look at her, eyebrows raised dramatically. “Is that really enough to put off this test?”
“We live in a world where magic is real and you’re questioning a gut feeling?” She folds her arms. “There’s evidence that proves the existence of a nervous system in the stomach, Reed. You know this. Gut feelings are a thing, and very seldom are mine wrong. And you’d know this if you ever cared to actually listen to me.”
Reed stretches his neck so that his face is just slightly too close to (Y/N)’s. “Name one instance.”
“Two weeks ago when you were tinkering with that vacuum chamber. I told you something was wrong with it, you brushed it off because it was a gut feeling. Then it blew up.”
“Oh please-”
“I had a six inch shard of glass stuck in my shoulder!”
He rolls eyes and his head snaps back to his shoulders. Reed waves her off. “You healed.”
“I wouldn’t have had to heal in the first place if you’d listened to me.”
“We’re still testing the transport today.”
“Seriously?”
“I… respect your gut feelings, but we can’t allow that to get in the way of the progression of science.”
(Y/N) scowls. “This is exactly why no one wants to work with you.”
“You want to work with me.”
“I took the job as a favor to Johnny.”
“And yet it’s been eight years.”
“Yeah,” she mutters. “Eight years of me getting blown up and lugging shit all across the countryside.”
“I heard that.”
“Good.”
(Y/N) grabs her empty mug from her work table and stalks down to the kitchen. Sue is sitting at the bar when she walks in. She waves in lieu of a greeting and keeps her eyes trained on the tablet in her hand.
(Y/N) pours herself a cup of coffee and stares down at the full mug. The realization of what the rest of the day might hold hits her and she’s just about ready to give up. She tips her head back, covers her face, and groans.
“I think your husband’s trying to kill me.”
“Well that’s nothing new,” Sue says. “What’d he do this time?”
“He wants to test that interdimensional transport he’s been working on. I have a bad feeling about it, but I don’t have the knowledge to back it up, so he’s just brushing my concerns to the side.”
“Well that doesn’t sound good.”
“He always ignores me. And every single time, I’m the one caught in the blast. Literally.”
“I know, (Y/N), I’m sorry.”
(Y/N) dumps sugar and cream into her coffee and sighs. “If I don’t come back from the lab today, Reed did it.”
“Duck and cover if something starts sparking.”
“We’ll see if I even get the chance.”
(Y/N) takes her coffee, drains half the mug in one go, and goes back to the lab.
Reed doesn’t seem to have noticed her absence, so she simply takes herself and her coffee to her table and waits for instructions.

“It’s not supposed to make that noise, right?”
“It is not,” Reed confirms.
The thunking noise coming from the transport grows louder and (Y/N) resists the urge to rub her temples. Reed doesn’t appear to be particularly concerned as he stretches across the length of the lab, searching for the source of the sound.
“Something must be loose,” (Y/N) says. “Is it on the body?”
“Not that I can see.” A sheet of metal shears off of one of the machine’s rotating arms and (Y/N) yanks him back just far enough that it misses slicing off his nose. “Thank you.”
“So something’s wrong with the arms,” (Y/N) posits. “The most dangerous part of the machine.”
“It would seem so.”
“I vote we turn it off and try again next week.”
“We don’t know if that’s enough to hinder its performance.”
“It’s enough to hinder our performance as living, breathing people.”
“Where’s your sense of adventure?” Reed creeps closer to his machine and (Y/N) cringes at the way she immediately follows behind.
“It’s securely locked away with the part of me that wanted to be a superhero.” She pulls him out of the way of another flying scrap of machine. “Because, contrary to popular opinion, just because I heal quickly doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hurt when I’m injured.”
“Hm, maybe we should look at that when we’re finished here.”
“Maybe you should find a new assistant when we’re finished here.”
Reed says something about her not being any fun, but she doesn’t register any of it. Her eyes are drawn to sparking near the base of the machine. Another chunk goes flying at them just as some of the sparks are sucked into the vent below the arms. (Y/N) is struck by the flying machine chunk as she shields Reed from it. She winces and hears an unidentifiable function of the transport stutter as another plume of sparks is sucked into the vent. She grabs as much of Reed’s body as she can and throws him towards the door, limbs flapping behind him, right as the entire machine explodes.
The force of the explosion propels Reed out into the hallway, but (Y/N) is caught in the blast. There’s a bright white flash and a blood-curdling scream and then all that’s left is the fire.
Sue is sprinting up the hallway with Ben and Johnny on her heels just as Reed manages to get his feet under himself again. All he can do is stare.
“What happened?” Sue demands. “Where is (Y/N)?”
“She saw what was happening before I did. She threw me out of the lab, but…”
“Reed,” Sue’s voice is deadly low. “What did you do?”
“I didn’t listen,” he says. “The transport malfunctioned and (Y/N) was caught in the blast.”
“Johnny,” Sue is very careful to keep her voice steady. “Put out the fire.”
Johnny simply does as he’s told. He disappears into the fire to absorb what he can and stomp out the rest. Ben surveys the progress from just outside the doorway. He says something about calling Peter and Johnny agrees from somewhere deeper in the lab.
“I screwed up, Sue.”
“No, Reed, you killed our friend. Your employee, might I add. And not even two hours ago she said you were trying to kill her.”
“I wasn’t trying to do anything of the sort.”
“I know that, but you get so blinded by your work that you can’t see when you’re putting people in danger.”
Johnny appears in the darkened doorway of the lab, tears rising in steam from his cheeks. “She was my friend, Reed.”
“I know-”
“She took this job because I begged her to!” Johnny shoves Reed, hard, into the wall. Flames lick at his fingers and Ben gently separates him from Reed. “But now she’s gone and I can’t even find her body in that warzone you call a lab.”
Reed frowns. "You didn't find her body?"
"Wh-that’s what you’re focusing on?
“Answer the question, Johnny.”
He scowls. “No, I didn’t find her. She was probably incinerated."
"Are you sure you didn't overlook anything?"
Johnny's shoulders shake with his anger. "I know what charred human remains look like, Reed. She's. Not. There."
Reed raises one shaking hand to his forehead and turns to Sue. “It might’ve worked.”
“What?”
“The transport. If there’s no body-” he rushes past Johnny and Ben without another word. Sue follows silently after him.
“That’s it, I think he finally lost his marbles,” Ben mutters.
“It doesn’t change the fact that he killed (Y/N).” Johnny wipes his eyes and turns to follow Reed to the lap. “God, Peter’s gonna flip when he finds out.”
“Don’t think about that right now,” Ben says.
“Hard not to,” he mumbles.
“I know but, if Reed’s machine did work, she could still be out there.”
“What if this is the time she doesn’t heal? You see how burnt it is in there. How could anyone survive that?”
“Dunno, but (Y/N)’s strong. If anyone could do it, it’d be her.”
Sue reappears in the doorway. Her hands and feet are covered in ash.
“There’s no sign of her,” she says. “We sifted through everything we could. There’s only a spot with slightly less ash than the rest of the room.”
“So you think Reed’s transport worked?” Johnny asks.
“I don’t know what to think. For everyone’s peace of mind, I hope it did. Then we might have a chance to track her down and bring her home.”
Johnny nods and drags his hands through his hair. “I have to make a call.”
Sue rubs his arm and nods. Johnny stalks off down the hall.

“Boss, there’s a disturbance in the electrical field in your lab.”
“Any extra information on that?”
“Based on the readings, it seems that someone may be teleporting directly into the tower.”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s the best word I could find.”
Tony frowns. “I’m headed up now. Find Steve and have him meet me there.”
“Of course, boss.”
Steve is already in the lab when Tony arrives, pacing along the far side of the room. There’s a bright ball of light forming in the middle of the lab and Steve’s eyes don’t stray from that spot as he moves, even when Tony strides through the door. Tony just stops and stares at the light.
“How long has that been here?” Tony asks.
“It was here when I walked in.” Steve squints at the light. “What is it?”
“Not sure. F.R.I.D.A.Y.  says someone’s trying to teleport into the tower.”
“Teleport?” Tony nods. “Does that kind of tech actually exist?”
“Not that I know of, but we’ve seen some pretty weird shit in the last ten years. It’d be stupid to just write it off.”
Steve stops pacing and jerks his chin towards the light. “Looks like it’s getting bigger.”
The ball of light slowly, steadily expands. When it’s about as wide as Steve is tall the lab fills with a terrible, painful scream and the light grows too bright for either man to keep their eyes open. The scream grows louder and Steve tries to shield his eyes in an attempt to find where the noise is coming from, but to no avail. Then, suddenly, the screaming stops and the light disappears followed by a distinctly sticky thud.
Tony rubs his eyes and Steve blinks light spots from his vision, willing his eyes to adjust to the room again. When they do, he visibly recoils from the vaguely human shaped mass of burned flesh on the tile in front of him.
"Oh God," he says. "Is that a person?"

How’s that for a first chapter? I’ll be very honest, I’m excited to finally be posting this one. It’s been a bit of a brainchild of mine for the better part of a year and a half at this point, maybe more. Pandemic time doesn’t work right.
As always, I’d love to know what you thought of this chapter! What do you think of the reader? Her relationship with Reed and the rest of the FF? What do you think will happen in the next chapter? Be sure to reblog, comment, and/or shoot me an ask and tell me all about it!
