sometimes i worry that *i'm* wrong and SU is bad/rushed/blah blah. then i remember whites fragile need to be perfect and ego defense of thinking she's fixing things. i remember how its perfectly mirrored by stevens need to fix others. how its both beautifully symbolic in CYM an made more explicit and heart-rending in future.

yeah that shit rules. white being reformed is great. its the ultimate rebuttal to the ideology that only good/useful/perfect people deserve to live- which is exactly the standard white held herself and everyone else to. it mirrors stevens arc of selfless heroism. it mirrors the toxic, insecure selflessness thats plagued everyone from pearl to jasper to rose about what it means to "deserve" to live it ties into "love like you" of how learning self-love is intertwined with loving others. it ties into how steven can't let go of his hero role until he's confronted by *literally* having his own mind in white's body, hating the idea of being like her yet ironically reacting exactly how she would - "this is someone bad for society, they should be shattered, this is what's best for everyone." trying to hurt her only hurting him. trying to help her helping all of gemkind - from the corrupted gems to dismantling a system that was held up by those exact ideals.

yeah no SU is fantastic. i'm so sad that its reputation is "oh well it wasn't that good, but it had some lgbt+ rep :)" which is just about the most condescending crap ever. i would gladly flip it. i think most cartoons that have come after SU haven't been that interesting, they've just been mostly generic stories with some lgbt+ rep.

New SU crack theory: Jasper infected Steven with corruption

In Earthlings, we see Jasper slice Steven's shirt. He pulls his arms away to see a small cut in the fabric.

A lucky miss, right? But it's not. 

In Growing Pains, Dr. Maheswaran mentions that his bones healed as soon as the injuries occurred. A cut is probably a quick, painless procedure for his powers. Literal milliseconds. Jasper might’ve even felt the skin closing as her nails went through him. 

But. But you know what isn't? Corruption. Steven physically cannot cure corruption on his own.

So when Jasper clawed him, it did slice through, the corruption from fusion is clearly transmittable, and the corruption has been festering ever since.

Why wait so long, and why wasn’t it healed from the Diamonds? Simple. Steven's powers are powered through emotion. During Change Your Mind, the corruption was contained with a refreshed faith and love he got from realizing there was no Rose in him.

Steven spent his whole life helping people and ignoring his mental health. Once he lost his purpose, the corruption began to fester- growing from within. And once his emotions became so erratic, the healing glitched- we saw it do that before, when he lost faith in himself. So he starts to grow. 

But it was a SERIOUSLY small dose, so it takes time to fully grow inside of him. He doesn't blemish bc his skin heals instantly. The only warning sign is his growth- his body fighting back And by then Steven is so goddamn into his PTSD he's already halfway out the door to Jasper, and we all know what happens next.

The swelling gets worse and worse because his mental state is getting worse, his powers aren't controllable by him anymore (we saw that with his troubles removing shields) and he starts showing more and more signs of aggression. As his intrusive thoughts get worse and worse, he loses more and more control.

Steven starts to hear the song.

Steven fights to keep control of his emotions, but it’s too late by then. He’s on a meltdown and even the slightest bit of rejection or confrontation gets him to be super defensive. He tries to run, but is eventually cornered by concerned loved ones. He’s penned in and his body has given out on him. He doesn’t recognize it anymore. He doesn’t recognize himself anymore. 

And we all know the rest.

The speculative biology of crystal gems

So i dont know why i thought this but this randomly popped into my head but i was wondering how crystal gems from steven universe work on a biological level and so i got a theory to share. As we know the crystal gems form is just a physical hologram that can be touched and touch things, And that the crystal gems themselves are their gems, Now i also read all tomorrows and so of course i bet you can see where this is going. So what if the crystal gems are like the gravitals, so basically the crystal gems in my theory are almost microscopic organisms that once born are put into a casing (gem), and that the injectors (which intentionally look like bacteriophage that inject dna into bodies) inject crystal gems into earth and perhaps thats their form of asexual reproduction, them birthing a gem and encasing it while injecting it into a planet to absorb organic material to make up their hologram.

I just thought of a question about steven universe and fusions. Ok so Rebecca sugar has said that all fusions have a single gem equivalent, I don’t remember where she has said this though, and this is something we see in the show (kind of). We see the gems fuse into obsidian and in Steven universes future we snowflake obsidian. Plus when blue diamond is talking to Steven about the party and Steven mentions Garnet blue says “does that call herself a garnet? What would you have her do enter with the Demantoids? The Hessonites, the Pyropes?” All of which are types of garnet.

So my question is could their be a fusion that’s a diamond? I don’t mean a fusion between 2 of the diamonds but a fusion between non diamonds that ends up being a diamond.

I am about to infodump about why steven universe has BPD (and cptsd but thats canon)

later in the series and in SU future is when all the trauma has already happened and hes finally safe is when it manifests itself heavier. hes very people pleasing, putting other peoples needs ahead of himself, even if the other person is in the wrong, his emotions spiral so out of control that he becomes corrupted or goes "pink mode", he has identity issues (bc of constantly being told hes his mother) to the point where he cant tell if he is her, if he is himself, if hes a he, if hes a she, if hes a gem or if hes a human, good or evil, etc.

has bursts of intense anger and feelings of guilt, would go to any length to keep people in his life (connie for example) and when she rejected his proposal his symptoms spiraled out of control, which is typically what happens w bpd, its triggered, his symptoms started presenting when he hit 16 / SU future. as for the ptsd though thats actually canon, there is an episode where he visits the doctor and she doesnt directly call it ptsd but shes asking him about his trauma and how far back it stems from (and he begins recalling traumatic events starting all the way from the beginning of the series to the middle of the series before connies mom interrupts him and tells him that he p much has c-ptsd) and steven starts having intense flashbacks and then falls into an episode when he is reminded of connie rejecting his proposal, his body starts physically reacting to it as if its happening again. (which by the way the proposal was very impulsive and spontaneous and mainly based in fear of abandonment, and solidified when garnet agreed. very bpd like.)

he views small issues as life threatening, which is seen in ptsd and bpd. hes been in a constant state of trauma since childhood, never knew his mom and constantly i n peril fighting monsters he doesnt even know the origin of protecting himself from a battle his mother forced him into, bpd and ptsd are inherently traumagenic. he changes himself and overextends himself to fit other people's perception of what he should be or to fit his own idea of perfection, hes terrified of being alone and will go to any lengths to keep his loved ones around him.

when people offer him support he pushes it away because he doesnt want to burden his loved ones with his problems or intense emotions or trauma. in fact, he bottles it up SO much that he falls into an episode where he starts fixing other peoples problems to distract himself from his own, as if fixing other people will in turn fix himself, which only makes it worse and worse until he explodes. he talks about how hes worthless, how hes a bad person, how he doesnt deserve his loved ones, and then becomes corrupted when the trauma become too much for him gem to handle anymore. (Him splitting on himself after bottling his feelings up for so long)

this was only soothed when his loved ones reminded him how much he was loved and cared for. he lacked a voice his whole life and once jasper taught him to fight and defend himself and he became all big and strong his personality changed completely and he ended up becoming aggressive in the same way jasper was and literally purposely and v violently shattered her because of it (which is obviously very out of character for steven who has healing powers)

he also takes control of and attempts to shatter white diamond when he has trauma flashbacks to her almost killing him despite working through those issues previous

he has a "the grass is greener on the other side" mindset

He has bouts of uncontrollable rage because he has no form of grasp of his emotions due to alienating them.

He creates narratives sticks to them then he is unable to change these thought processes.

after shattering jasper he has an intense panic attack, thinking he is a violent killer or bad person, his guilt spirals and he makes a very desperate and emotional attempt at bringing her back.

he also takes control of and attempts to shatter white diamond when he has trauma flashbacks to her almost killing him despite working through those issues previous.

he has a "the grass is greener on the other side" mindset

He has bouts of uncontrollable rage because he has no form of grasp of his emotions due to alienating them.

He creates narratives sticks to them then he is unable to change these thought processes.

He creates a happily ever after in his mind and then when the outcome isn't perfect or what he imagined he freaks out.

he has frequent flashbacks to issues from his past and tends to block the thoughts out when they show up or dissociate himself from them, or, alternatively, he hyper-fixates on them so much that it takes over every aspect of his waking life. he also thinks in black and white a lot, with things being either all good or all bad, and becomes paranoid about other peoples intentions or the way they perceive him. he also is CONSTANTLY on edge expecting bad things to happen and prepares himself for danger that might not even come.

Also throwback to the time where he crashed the car and split on his dad when he realized his dad got the childhood he always wanted and that he was neglected, he quickly went from idealizing his dad to feeling spiteful toward him and putting their own lives in danger.

also the time when he realized all of his friends were moving on without him and subconsciously trapped them in a giant bubble that he had no control over

oh and the NIGHTMARES!!!

Okay I'm a HUGE steven universe fan, and I know that the fandom has been dead for a while now but idc I wanna talk abt my issues with the fandom and how ppl just misinterpret the show.

And no I'm not talking abt the lilly orchards and the ppl with the most braindead takes u have ever heard cuz I feel like they've been talked abt enough. No, I wanna talk abt the finale and I wanna talk abt White Diamond cuz imo she causes sm controversy in the fandom.

Lemme just say I LOVE white diamond, she's in my top 10 su characters for sure, and I feel like a lot of ppl dont understand her arc and her character in general.

Like yes she did bad things and yes I wish we got to see more of her overall but the fucking show got cancelled before it was supposed to and imo ppl need to take that into account when talking abt her and the finale. Her character and her arc does make sense in regards to the buildup and the show as a whole. I feel like a lot of ppl just wanted a boos fight which #1 would've completely gone against the point of the show and also she's like 100 ft tall with mind control powers they were not beating WD in a fight idc. Not to mention the fact that we lowk got a boss fight right before that anyway so that would've just been repetitive.

And just thinking abt her character, she represents everything and nothing at the same time. She's every color of the light, but she's also empty without the reflection of the other colors. She perceives that emptiness as perfection cuz that's the easiest thing to believe. She's probably older than time itself and has never rlly been proven wrong in any circumstance so when she finds out that pink is gone and steven is steven obviously she's gonna have a fucking identity crisis.

Steven didn't "defeat" her, he just changed her mind, (idk maybe like that's a core theme of the show or smthn) and changed her perspective. He showed her that things can change and that things aren't set in stone. (wow what another core theme thats crazy)

Also another thing she didn't want to murder Steven and I fucking hate it when ppl say that. I don't think she's ever seen a human before and in her mind steven is just pink in a different form so pulling out his gem wouldn't kill him. In reality yeah it probably would, I'm just saying that wasn't her intention.

Anyway this post was way too long and probably doesn't make any sense. I don't expect many ppl to see this either especially cuz I'm barely active on here unless Im looking at fanart but if ur reading this hopefully u got smthn out of it. (°◡°♡)

Little Aziz has an IQ so high you’d need to do a drug test on it, but he’s also got little motivation to actually do much of anything. You’d think he’d be one of the saner characters, and while he’s probably the least likely to get into trouble of his own accord, he’s the most likely to dare someone else to do something stupid. Great for ICT’s content making pursuits, but bad for staying out of legal trouble.

To be fair, Azzy isn’t a complete slacker. If he’s not lounging around or watching others commit misdemeanors, he’s messing with machinery. Sometimes Chloe sets him loose in her lab to fix any of her programming oversights. This invariably results in OTTO going on a psychotic rampage.

Fun Facts

Aziz was initially envisioned as a character more similar to Whitney. He evolved into a rascally, Bart-esque jokester before being scrapped. Upon revival, he became a more apathetic, acerbic character.

Aziz’s surname is a play on “sherbet”.

Aziz, due to being cut so early on, was replaced as the azure Drewman by Shayla (now slate gray and completely overhauled), formerly named Zuri. The current Zuri (now light blue) replaced her in turn, albeit with a deeper color and a different hairstyle compared to her current design.

Aziz is the only Season One character with any color aside from the standard gray (or Al’s silver) on their pants.

Aziz was originally envisioned with a much lighter skin tone.

Aziz’s slouch was initially a design quirk belonging to Ingrid.

Aziz usually doesn’t show any strong emotions. Too much effort.

Aziz isn’t a jerk, we swear. His social skills are just really, REALLY bad.
