Sugilite is a underrated fusion of Garnet and Amethyst from Steven Universe. One of my favorites, she's voiced by Nicki Minaj with a design based off of Japanese Oni. Her debut episode, Coach Steven is one of my favorites, but there's been debate over whether Sugilite's role in the episode was racist. She was the antag for the later half of the episode, with Pearl battling them, ending with Sugilite's weapon accidentally falling on her face. I wanted to ask current SU fandom if they think the episode is racist.

I can see how a person can wind up looking for problematic situations and interpret it this way, but as a black woman myself it's a fine episode. It'd be unrealistic if they just wrote Amethyst and Garnet to be perfect every episode, and Pearl definitely had episodes were she was the gem antag/bad person.

It's midnight so I'm gonna ramble again but about animation/cartoons as a whole included with my lack of knowledge about the industry

A few weeks ago, I remember watching some video about Cartoon Network or something and the guy doing the essay mentioned something like "With the rise of streaming and online as a whole, there is a loss of connection with parents and their kids because back then, you could watch the same cartoon with your kids and recognize who that is". They absolutely did not say those exact words but something along the lines of it, and it's stuck to me for days because it's true! Like I don't think kids nowadays have that kind of connection other than theatrical kids movies, which sucks I think moments like these are precious to have.

Another thing is that I think people kind of underestimate how popular cartoon/2d/3d shows are with adults? Especially young adults because the people who grew up with like, 1990s-2010s shows are probably mostly grown adults now. Probably the best recent example of this is Adventure time and how (I think) big Fionna and Cake is. Like I could go on Twitter and be spoiled hell and back on the newest episodes LOL. How about Owl House and Infinity Train? Bluuey too?? I don't know, but with the writers strike and how swept under the rug animation is, especially on streaming, it just kind of sucks where the current state of animation is right now for everyone as a whole

Gemcyt au that stars the cod alliance from season one empire’s and where most of the other characters where crystal gems that fought in the gem war

Grian was the leader of the rebellion that worked together with Lizzie a diamond in disguise to fake her shattering and just like in cannon the diamonds retaliated by the corrupting all the gems still on the planet 

Lizzie used her weapon to block the blast and like rose she was able to grab two others before it hit

Joel who never left her side and jimmy who stayed close to joel 

the story takes place 5,300 years after the war and starts when a modern human historian named pix befriends the survivors 

lizzie a pink diamond disguised as a rose quartz that is a scammer and is the one that makes their fake ids and legal papers 

joel a green off color pearl that was originally quiet but over the years became more outspoken and confident 

and jimmy a defective clumsy lapis that loves human board games and organic animals 

Pix questions them about the gem artifacts and ruins he has been studying and as they get more comfortable around him they start info dumping about the caste system and the war

It steadily gets more and more personal until it gets to the point where he becomes their unofficial therapist 

Then the home world gems start coming to earth again and pix becomes a diplomat that ends up using Lizzies status as a diamond to defeat the other diamonds by talking to them like Steven did in Steven universe
