To betray, there must be trust in the first place, an intimacy born out of understanding or love. You have to get close to plunge a knife between the ribs.
The theme for Lights on Park Ave Round 52 is betrayal.
Here are the prompts:
"Landfill" - Daughter
A Squid Game gifset about what Gihun and Sangwoo believe it takes to survive and win
"Judas' Gift" by Adam Phillips, a piece about the intimacy and transformative nature of betrayal
Lestat telling Louis that he's glad Louis is the one to kill him in AMC's Interview with the Vampire
Samson and Delilah - Peter Paul Rubens
Tony telling Steve he doesn't trust Steve and calling him a liar in Endgame
An excerpt from "Yesterday He Still Looked in My Eyes" by Marina Tsvetaeva where the narrator asks what she did to be abandoned
"Mr. Brightside" - The Killers
A quote about being betrayed by one's heart from A Heart Under a Cassock by Arthur Rimbaud
"9 Crimes" - Damien Rice
Shiv's reaction to Tom's betrayal while Tom, unaware that she caught him, disingenuously comforts her in Succession with commentary from Mark Mylod
Eduardo promising Mark that he'll go after him for cutting him out of the company in David Fincher's The Social Network
Steve confronting Tony about wiping his memory and what the Illuminati members are doing in Avengers Vol. 5 Issue 29
A gifset from Martin Scorsese's The Departed about the moles in the mob and FBI's ranks
The Taking of Christ - Caravaggio
The Ides of March - Edward John Poynter
Robbie shouting at Briony about how she and her family ruined his life and his future with Cecilia because of her lie in Atonement
"Vicious" - Daniel Hart (AMC's Interview with the Vampire OST)
Miss Kenton admitting her feelings to Stevens, which makes him realize that his rigid adherence to his beliefs cost him a chance with her in The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Tom and Shiv fighting bitterly about how the other person betrayed them and trying to hurt each other in Succession
Tim telling Hawk in 1968 that their love was a fantasy because of Hawk's actions and not giving into a yearning Hawk in 1979 in Fellow Travelers
Round 52 will end on April 30, 11:59 PM ET (what time is that for me?).
As always, you’re free to jump in whenever you’d like during the round, a wide variety of work types is accepted, and there are no minimum work requirements. Steve and Tony meet at a bar. Steve's celebrating his lucky thirty and Tony's finally done with his third PhD. They are on the opposite sides of the room, both with a different friend group and when their eyes meet—sparks fly. Tony's swooning when Steve shoves him up against the car, orders the cab driver to take them to Steve's place: a modest two bedroom flat. Steve loves how sweet Tony is, how hot and bothered both of their bodies are. How they are both unwilling to let go of each other even when Steve has to open the door. How when Steve takes off his shirt, Tony follows suit. How Steve has Tony pinned underneath, touching his feverish, sweat soaked skin and wait—
"Are you okay," Steve asks in between, stopping his cold touches so suddenly that Tony mewls an embarrassingly high pitched sound.
"Yes! Why'd you stop?"
"Well, you're kinda hot."
"Only kinda," Tony huffs out a laugh, then frowns when Steve touches his forehead like his mama used to do. Worse, Steve backs off with a loud, exasperated sigh, hands on his waist as he stares him down.
"I think you're sick."
"I'm not."
Turns out, he is.
Turns out Tony might be the first one ever to end up taking a nap, drinking chicken soup and being mothered by his supposed hook up to get rid of his exhaustion induced fever.

Happy birthday!!! 🥳 Also, I absolutely love your writing~♡ (your stony soulmate au and vampire tony au are my favorite!!!)
For the prompt: Tony being dragged to a weapon's demonstration by Howard, decides to absolutely piss him off by wearing booty shorts and tank tops—distracting Howard's favorite soldiers: Steve and Bucky
hello ily sorry this has taken so long 🥲
———
As long as Stark Industries continues to make weapons, Tony has zero interest in “doing his part” for the company at these military shindigs. Sure, he’s glad that his dad is at least letting him head the efforts for defensive and medical tech, but until the day the weapons department is completely shut down, Tony will not give those power hungry generals the time of day.
So when Howard all but forces Tony into joining him for a five-day trip to Afghanistan for a weapons demonstration, Tony retaliates the best way he knows how. By shamelessly embarrassing his dad.
He takes his sweet time on the plane, lazing casually in his band t-shirt and jeans as they make their descent. He knows he’ll be expected to change into a more “appropriate” outfit once they land because that’s protocol, and he’s looking forward to watching Howard’s head explode later.
That’ll teach him to force Tony into doing anything weapons-related.
By the time the company jet lands, Howard has already changed into his perfectly pressed suit so he can greet the soldiers who have been sent to meet them.
“Hurry up and get changed, Tony. The general has sent his most elite squad to come get us,” Howard says. “Steve and Bucky are the best of the best. Let’s show them some respect and not keep them waiting.”
He turns towards the stairs to disembark.
“What the hell kind of a name is Bucky…” Tony mutters as he heads towards the back of the plane to change his clothes.
Five minutes later, he’s going down the plane stairs like a pageant queen, never mind the fact that he’s dressed like the polar opposite. The chatter between Howard and the two beefcakes facing him abruptly stops when the blonde one spots Tony and immediately blushes a bright red.
When Howard turns to see what the problem is, he goes red too, albeit much uglier and angrier.
“Tony, what in the world are you wearing? Do you really think this is appropriate for a trip of this nature?” Howard seethes.
As he joins the group, Tony looks down at his clothes. His jean shorts cut off six inches above his knees, and his tank bearing his favorite band’s logo is only marginally long enough to not be considered a crop top. He looks damn good, and he knows it.
“I do in fact think these clothes are appropriate, actually. I dressed for the weather.” He pastes on a shit-eating grin and turns towards the soldiers. “Hi, I’m Tony.”
Before either of them could introduce themselves, Howard cuts in.
“Get back in there and change into a proper suit, Tony. This isn’t funny.”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that. All I’ve packed are shorts and tank tops and t-shirts.”
As Howard splutters, one of the soldiers — the blonde one who had been staring — takes Tony’s hand and shakes it.
“I’m Steve. I, uh, I think you look great. Um, you’ve got nice legs,” he says, his ears turning pink. Tony has a feeling it’s not because of the blazing sun.
The brunette standing next to Steve gently shoves him aside and takes his place in front of Tony.
“Heya, I’m Bucky.” He boldly steps closer and places his hand on Tony’s shoulder. “And if you really do need something else to wear, I’d be happy to lend ya somethin’. I’m sure you’d look incredible in my clothes, doll.” He winks.
Tony glances between the two soldiers, both of whom have not even spared Howard or anyone else a second of their attention since Tony sauntered up to them in his booty shorts and tank top.
He smiles.
Looks like this trip might not be a bad idea after all.

A Second Chance: The Steve/Tony Endgame Prompt Fest
Tumblr media
Whether you took part in the exchange and miss SteveTony already or missed out last time and wish you joined in, this prompt fest is a second chance <3
The prompt fest will run from July 7 to December 31, 2023. There are no minimum work requirements, and sign-ups are not required: you can submit prompts and fill prompts as you please! 😊
Here’s how it works:
To submit a prompt, send it through our prompt form and it’ll appear in the Prompt Collection sheet for others to see (the form and sheet will be opened on July 7). You can only submit one prompt each time, but you can submit as many forms as your heart desires. If you aren’t sure what your prompt should look like, take a look at the sheet for examples or ask us for help!
To fill a prompt, just post it to the AO3 collection when it’s complete! There is no formal claiming process; just make sure to include the prompt number and/or quote the prompt you filled in your author’s note or summary.
Both the prompt form and the AO3 collection will be open for the entire duration of the event (July 7 to December 31). During this time, you can send in prompts, view prompts in the Prompt Collection, and post fills to the AO3 collection.
Rules & Guidelines
There is no minimum work requirement, and any work type goes!
When you post your work, please include the prompt number and/or quote the prompt you filled in your author’s note or summary.
All prompts and fills must be Endgame-adjacent. Canon divergence and post-canon are welcome!
All prompts and fills must center on Steve and Tony's relationship, whether romantic or platonic. Since this is a Steve/Tony event, we ask that you do not prompt or fill poly relationships involving them and others, and Steve/Tony cannot be a side ship.
You must be at least 18 years old to participate, as some prompts may contain mature themes.
The foremost rule of our exchange applies to the prompt fest as well: This is a Steve and Tony friendly event! ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ We will not accept any character bashing or painting either character in a negative light. Any prompts or fills that do not respect this rule will be removed from the collection. Remember this is supposed to be a fun event celebrating their love!
FAQ
Multiple people can collaborate on one fill.
Gifting your fill to the prompter is encouraged but not required.
Combining multiple prompts into one fill is allowed, just remember to specify which ones.
You can submit and fill as many prompts as you want—there is no limit.
You do not need to fill a prompt in order to submit one, and vice versa.
Crossposts with other events are allowed as long as the rules of that event permit it too.
The collection will be unmoderated, so mods cannot guarantee real-time fill status updates in the Prompt Collection, but we’ll do our best!!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to DM us, drop us an ask, or email us at [email protected]!
Love,
A Second Chance Mods

Coming in Hot

Prompt: a kiss before going to work
900 words
Steve stood next to the toaster, tapping his fingers on the counter as he waited for his bagel to be done. It was early, and the tower was calm. He'd seen Clint and Natasha preparing for their sparring session an hour or so earlier, but otherwise, it was a ghost town. The toaster finally finished, the crisp pop and ding of it shutting off startling him in the quiet of the kitchen. He plopped his breakfast onto a plate and checked his watch.
It wouldn't be a ghost town much longer, he would bet. Pulling the cream cheese from the fridge, he settled at the breakfast bar and finished preparing his food as he waited.
“Watch it Cap, Stark's coming in hot,” Clint drawled with an amused tone as he entered the kitchen a moment later.
“You don't say?” Steve asked, unsurprised and dry sounding.
The archer just nodded, looking far too happy as he poured the last of the coffee into a mug.
“Fuck I'm late!” Right on cue Tony entered the space, tie hanging undone around his neck as he fumbled with his cufflinks. “Why does she keep scheduling meetings so early? She knows I'm not a morning person.”
“This wouldn't happen to be the meeting Pepper already rescheduled twice because you keep missing it?” Steve asked, the casualness in his tone giving away that he already knew the answer.
“Maybe,” Tony grumbled as he picked up the empty coffee pot and frowned. “Barton, I'm gonna kill you,” he promised, glaring at the other man's steaming cup of coffee.
In response, Clint deliberately took a slow drink, holding Tony's eye while he did.
“Definitely gonna get you. I swear your next batch of arrows is gonna blow up right in your smug little face,” Tony cursed and made a grab for the nearly full mug.
“Extra coffee for you on the bar,” Steve said, pointing to a thermus he'd filled earlier. “Better hurry, if you don't leave now, you'll be late.”
“Thank you,” Tony nearly moaned and picked up the travel cup.
“Uh-huh,” Steve drawled and held up half of his bagel before Tony could try stealing it from his plate.
“Thanks,” Tony repeated with a sigh, taking it gladly. “Why do you know my schedule better than me?”
“Tony, the hotdog vendor in Central Park knows your schedule better than you do,” Clint piped up with a snort of laughter.
Steve chuckled, and he watched Tony hold the bagel in his mouth as he quickly did his tie. Nimble fingers tugging it into a knot that had no right to be as neat as it was for how fast it had been made.
“I refuse to acknowledge the truth of that,” Tony spoke around a mouth full and held the thermus up towards Steve. “Is it—”
“Cool enough to drink? Yes.” Steve supplied, taking a bite from his remaining half of the bagel.
“You're an angel,” Tony said blissfully. Then he leaned over the bar and pressed a fast but firm kiss to Steve's mouth before rushing out, already calling the elevator via Jarvis before he left the room.
Steve's bagel fell from his lax fingers, plopping back to the plate cream cheese side down.
“Did he just?” Clint asked, looking over at Steve with wide eyes.
“Uh…yeah,” Steve muttered, dumbstruck, his lips tingling from the surprise contact.
“And you guys aren't?”
“Nope.”
The two men stared at each other for a moment in confused silence. Steve felt his cheeks grow hot. Tony, his friend and long-term crush, had just kissed him. Lips warm, soft, and real against his mouth. Clint was giving him a knowing smirk but was thankfully holding his tongue. A moment later, the quiet was broken by the buzzing of Steve’s phone on the counter.
“It's Tony,” he said, looking down at the smiling picture of Tony in his purple sunglasses that was set as the man’s icon. The heat of flush skirted down his neck and settled in his chest.
“Speaker, put him on speaker,” Clint demanded, coming to stand next to his friend.
Swallowing Steve swiped the call open and tapped the speaker function. “Hello?”
“I can't believe I'm even going to ask this but I'm rushed, suffering from a caffeine deficiency, and am severely sleep deprived so the last fifteen minutes are a blur—did I just kiss you?”
“Um, yes?”
Tony said nothing, only the quiet shuffle of him still rushing to his car coming through the phone.
“Hey playboy, this is the part where you ask him out,” Clint supplied, flinching away before Steve could swat him.
“Do you have me on speaker?” Tony questioned, his tight voice sounding more flustered than angry.
“Maybe?” Steve hedged.
“Oh for Christ—” and the line clicked off.
“Wow, if that's how smooth he normally is, I can't imagine how he used to snag all the ladies. Must be the money,” Clint chuckled, picking up his coffee and heading off.
Sighing and shaking his head, Steve poked his sad upside down bagel. Just as he was starting to think it truly had been an accident and meant nothing, his phone buzzed with a text from Tony. Steve smiled as he read it.
‘Free for a lunch date after my meeting?’
Steve started to type out that, yes, he was free when a new message popped up, turning his smile into a joyful grin.
‘And that does not count as our first kiss!!’

I'm thinking of writing a bunch of fluffy stevetony codas for my favorite AA episodes, I've been rewatching the show this weekend and have all the AA stevetony feelings - just wondering if this would be of interest to anyone, or if it's a completely self-indulgent idea :D
I'm also in a post A1 stevetony mood so I'm opening my askbox for prompts for a little while! 💜

naferty fren!!! yesss always happy to write steve for you <3
@soliloquent-stark also requested this prompt + "If you win, I'll kiss you" so I rolled y'all into one
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7
~
Steve does follow his physical therapy plan religiously, and sure enough, by the time the next season—his final season, as a senior now—rolls around, he’s declared fit to play. And, fuck, does he play. Determined to prove himself even better after his recovery, to prove that Rollins couldn’t get him down, he leads his team to victory after victory and then to the playoffs and now to the championship.
Tony ducks into the locker room before the game, ignoring the good-natured wolf-whistles and catcalls from Steve’s teammates as he picks his way through the equipment littered across the room. It’s been an open secret for ages that Steve was seeing an omega, and after his injury last season, it became an open secret that Steve was specifically seeing Tony because he kept showing up to fuss over him, but none of them would ever turn him in. They have too much respect for their captain and quarterback, and anyway, most of them think the zero fraternization rules are just as ridiculous as they do.
“Hi, sweetheart,” Steve says, beaming at him. “How was your exam?”
Tony makes a face. He hadn’t flown over with the team yesterday, being required to take an exam for one of his courses—something about mechanics, which Steve had listened to all the ranting about, nodding sympathetically since that was about as much as he understood.
“That bad?” Steve asks.
Tony scowls. “No. It was boring. If you’re gonna make a big deal about this exam being the ‘hardest exam of the entire semester’—” he adopts a suitably dramatic tone for the quote—“then it should at least be difficult, right? I overstudied way too much for that thing. I don’t think it took me more than about ten minutes.”
“Maybe that’s just because you’re impressive.”
“Or maybe Dr. Kean’s not nearly as scary as she thinks she is.”
Steve hums. He doesn’t completely agree—no one knows how smart Tony is better than he does after years of listening to Tony telling him about his inventions—but he’s not going to argue the point. He wasn’t there; for all he knows, everyone was done with the exam after ten minutes.
“I’m glad to see you here,” he says instead. “I wasn’t sure you’d make it.”
Tony makes a dismissive gesture. “What’s a little light sprinting through the airport to catch the next flight?”
“And the TSA let you?”
“I told ‘em I was going to support my alpha, and they practically made a hole for me themselves. They’re big Steve Rogers’ fans, you know.”
It’s Steve’s turn to make a face. He doesn’t know how he feels about having fans. No, that’s not true. He knows exactly how he feels, and he doesn’t like it.
Tony laughs, “Yeah, exactly.”
Steve hears the coach starting to round people up for the pregame pep talk and says, “You better get out there. Don’t want you to miss the kickoff.”
“Hmm, yeah, probably,” Tony agrees and starts to walk away, grinning when Steve reels him back in. “What?”
“Don’t you think you’re forgetting something?” Steve asks.
“No?”
That innocent look on his face isn’t fooling Steve one bit. He reminds him, “Kiss for luck?”
Tony thinks about it, then gives him a teasing smile. “Hmm, I’m gonna have to go with no.”
Steve blinks at him. “No?”
“Yeah, no. But if you win, I’ll kiss you then.”
He darts away before Steve can catch him to kiss him himself, cackling like mad as he dodges his hand. Steve watches him go and shakes his head fondly. Well, now that Tony’s laid a challenge on him, guess he’ll have to win.
~
Looking back on it, he’ll be able to remember the game in excruciating detail. He’ll be able to sit down with Tony and watch the highlights and comment on what he was thinking at each moment of the game. Today though, it feels like barely a minute has passed before he’s standing in the winners box, looking at Tony beaming from ear to ear while someone asks him how he feels.
“Amazing,” he says honestly. He almost says something about Tony, but stops himself at the last second. That moment feels too private, too them to share on national television.  He gives another couple of soundbites before the mic moves to Peter, who’d made the winning touchdown in the last second, literally.
“I think I just kind of blacked out when I caught that last ball,” Peter says blankly, still clearly in shock. “I just ran for it. I’m lucky I moved at all.”
Everyone chuckles and then they’re finally allowed down off the stage. Steve makes a beeline straight for Tony, vaguely acknowledging the people who try to talk to him. Tony is waiting for him with a softer, more teasing smile.
“Congratulations, quarterback,” Tony says once he reaches him.
“Thanks,” Steve says, grinning at him. “Now, if I remember correctly, I think this is the part where you’re supposed to kiss me.”
“Oh, is that what part this is?” Tony asks, arching his eyebrows.
“Pretty sure. I did win, after all.”
“Well, if you won,” Tony says exaggeratedly, but grabs ahold of Steve’s jersey and yanks him in. He smiles again, bright and warm and so, so proud, and then leans up and kisses him. And it’s a perfect moment, the best way to cap off the best season Steve has ever had. Steve wraps his arms around him, holding him close, and kisses him and kisses him and kisses him.

5, 19, and/or 27 for stevetony, take your pick!
5//hand kisses <3
Tony is no stranger to affection. In fact, he's one of the most affectionate people he knows. He's been called touchy-feely by the team more times than he can count, though no one complains about a back rub after a long mission, Tony is always quick to point out. But he's made his peace with it, it's his love language, et cetera.
What Tony hadn't been expecting, however, is just how affectionate Steve could be, once he got comfortable. And with Tony, the man is more than comfortable.
Steve Rogers, Tony has learned over the last several months, is curl up in Tony's lap after a long day, arms wrapped around Tony's waist while they cook, just one more minute before we get out of bed affectionate, and Tony is getting more than a little spoiled by it. Steve sleeps like a koala, whether it's a side effect of having grown up in twin bed and army barracks, a subconscious need to huddle for warmth, or a desire for closeness, Tony is certainly not complaining.
For too many years, Tony found himself alone at the end of a night with someone, wanting (but not needing, he'd never admit to needing it at the time) exactly the kind of warmth Steve is giving him at every turn now.
Just like that.
It's just for Tony, though. Steve is not one for PDA, and he wants the opposite of being in the spotlight. He's happy to support Tony at events, but he makes a point not to stop for reporters and photographers longer than to offer a polite hello and a smile.
Tony loves that about him, too.
He might just love everything about Steve Rogers, but he'll cross that bridge when it gets to it, when he's ready to say the thing out loud.
"You sure you're up for this, big guy?" Tony asks one night as Steve straightens his tie. It's a fundraiser for Stark Industries, nothing exactly new, but it's a cause Tony himself really believes in, and he's looking forward to having Steve at his side.
"Of course, Tony," Steve says, and Tony doesn't have to think twice about whether or not he means it. Steve always means it.
"Good," Tony says, "you clean up nice, and I'd hate for you to bail on me now."
Steve chuckles, setting down the comb he'd been using to style his hair and pulling Tony into reassuring a hug, well-pressed suits be damned.
"You're not so bad yourself," Steve murmurs. "And you're not getting rid of me that easily."
Tony grins up at him. "Good," he winks, then holds out a hand. "Shall we?"
Nodding, Steve takes Tony's hand, but instead of linking their hands together, he lifts it up to his lips, kissing it softly. So softly, Tony's stomach swoops a good few times over.
"Charmer," Tony says, a little breathlessly. If Steve notices, he's too much of gentleman to comment on it out loud, though his lips says more than enough on their own.
"Well, I learned from the best," Steve says, smirking as he takes Tony's hand in his and leads them out of the room.

ta-da, my fills for the @stevetonyisendgame prompt fest in the year of our endgame 2023!! 🎉 thanks to jen@ishipallthings and rini@thahiree for being the best co-mods there ever were and everyone who participated in the exchange and the prompt fest this year, it has been so much fun 😽
soft strange ways (1k, G)
Steve and Tony are only gone for five seconds, but when they reappear on the quantum portal in a swirling pinprick of light, their hair is a bit longer, their clothes are rumpled, they’re gripping onto each other’s hands so hard their knuckles are white, and both of them, for the first time in as long as anyone has known them, look like they might be truly, wholly, blindingly happy.
trapped between two lungs (2k, T)
Tony tears open his front door and stumbling towards him is the same face he still dreams about. He isn’t even wearing a jacket in this freezing cold and there’s blood dripping from somewhere on his body into the snow, and Tony can’t think. All their complicated history disappears somewhere and all he sees is Steve, hurt and afraid.
best laid plans (1.3k, E)
Nomad looks a lot like somebody Tony used to know, and if Tony were anything less than piss drunk, he would have known way before Tony even left Nomad’s mouth. He would have known as soon as those lips fell open and those shoulders tensed because the man in front of him might be able to fool everybody else with that mask tied around his eyes, but not Tony.
He’s drunk, though. He doesn’t know.
tough it out (2k, not rated)
“I don’t—” Then Tony remembers exactly where they are, and Steve’s expression shifts into one of dreadful realisation at the same time. “You’re gonna have to kneel on it, Steve. She thinks you’re my—”
“Kneel on it?”
“Hey, hey, don’t think of it as kneeling for me, right? Think of it as Captain Stevens kneeling for Doctor Potts so Steve Rogers and Tony Stark have a shot at getting home alive.”

There's nothing sweet about how Steve loves Tony.
He loves him viciously. Like a serpent loving a sweet lie. Like a bolt of lightning loving a lone standing tree. His love for Tony never simmers, only burns until Tony is left gasping and whimpering, raw and aching for more.
Steve loves Tony. It is easy to see. Enough that even their enemies take notice.
It worries the team. It worries Natasha when she sees Steve behead Ivan Vanko with the shield.
"That's a bit much," she notes when Captain America kicks Hammer's lose and limp body, wrinkling his nose in disgust when the man groans in pain.
Steve looks at her. And it's here she remembers him as the man who woke up like a beast. Roaring and snarling at everyone. Seeing enemies all around him until the numbness of grief settled in his veins. His eyes show the rage of a man who's lost one life, and is now on the verge of losing another.
"I thought you were with Potts."
The memory of a soft, subtle rose makes her smile.
"She's fine." Natasha made sure of it. "I'm here about Fury."
"Your boss, you mean."
"My boss," she agrees, checking for any stray henchman. "He's got something that could slow down Tony's... Condition."
"What's the hold up then," Steve doesn't ask. He just squares his shoulder, already catching in on her implications. It's part of the reason she's chosen to work with him for so long. They don't need to speak to know each other's motives.
In this instance, Steve already knows what she does. Fury won't help Tony. Not unless Tony Stark builds Shield something useful. Or becomes Shield's issued collar around Cap's neck.
"Tell me everything."
Years later, Clint would ask her what made her turn her back on Shield, on Phil. She would be looking at Pepper when she speaks. But her answer would be Steve Rogers and his untamed, unchecked wanting for a dying man.

omg happy birthday!! for a prompt, how about some secret santa shenanigans for stevetony?
THIS IS SO VERY LATE i’m sorry!! december just completely got away from me. but ask and ye shall receive (albeit belatedly)
———
“Sooo, who did you get for Secret Santa?” Natasha asks as she plops herself down on the opposite end of the couch.
“I thought the whole point of Secret Santa was that it’s supposed to be a secret,” Tony says. He raises his eyebrow and spares her a short glance before looking back at his phone. He hopes he comes off as casual as he’s trying to sound and Nat doesn’t realize he’s frantically scrolling on his phone for gift ideas.
“It is. But it looks like you’re already panicking and I thought maybe I could help.” She looks pointedly at the way he’s holding his phone, his thumb flicking the screen too fast for him to really absorb anything.
“How do you know I’m not doing some important work for SI here?”
“Please. We all know you’d prefer holograms for that. What you’re doing now you’re trying to keep secret.”
“Ugh, fine.” Tony sits up and tosses his phone at Natasha. “I got Steve.”
“Oh, I know,” Nat says as she looks through the bookmarks Tony already has saved. “I rigged it so you’d get him.”
“What the fuck, Nat!”
She shrugs. “I figured I’d help you guys get over your pining so you can finally just bone. Anyway, none of these will do. Come on, let’s go out.”
She stands up and heads towards the elevator without even looking back to see if Tony is following. He sighs and goes after her. She’s still holding his phone hostage after all.
———
Tony holds his breath as he watches Steve unwrap his present. The Avengers are all sitting in a circle in front of their tree, and they’d agreed to all open their gifts at the same time after their Christmas dinner. Tony is so nervous about how Steve would react that he hasn’t even looked small package he’d pulled from under the tree into his lap.
His heart bursts when he sees Steve positively light up at the series of framed photographs Tony had customized for him. The pictures range from the bits of Steve’s past that Howard had collected to recent photos of him with their team. At Nat’s urging, Tony had also hid pictures of himself posing pinup-style behind some of the photos. If he ever does get up the courage to ask Steve out, maybe one day he’ll tell Steve about it.
Steve reads the card and beams when he looks back up at Tony, who can do nothing else but smile back. Steve is so handsome when he’s happy. Tony wants to keep making him smile like that.
“Tony?” Bruce asks. “Aren’t you going to open your present?”
“Oh!” He’d entirely forgotten about the little bundle he has in front of him. “Right, I’ll do that now,” he says as he starts to untie the ribbon on the box.
“Wait!” Steve reaches across the circle and puts a hand on top of Tony’s.
Tony pauses and looks questioningly at Steve. “What’s up?”
“Um. Listen, I’m not really sure about what I got for you. How about you give me until tomorrow to get you something new? Please, Tony, after such a thoughtful gift from you I really just want to be sure that what I get you is perfect.”
“Oh, no it’s okay! I’m sure whatever you got me will be wonderful.”
“Don’t worry so much, Steve. I’m sure Tony will love your gift,” Nat chimes in with a shit-eating grin.
Tony narrows his eyes at her. Of course her nosy ass got involved with Steve’s gift-giving too. But to be fair, she did help Tony figure out the perfect present for Steve, so while she can sometimes be the worst, she is also truly the best. And though her methods may not always be conventional, when it comes to the team she always means well. Tony knows he can trust that she helped Steve to the best of her abilities.
Not to mention he’s really curious about what Steve got him that he’s blushing so hard right now.
He hastily unwraps his present and takes the lid off the box. Inside, nestled in delicate tissue paper, is a set of absolutely gorgeous navy blue lingerie. The card on top simply says, “Perhaps this is something we can enjoy together.”
His eyes widen at the brazen assumption in those words, though Steve’s not wrong. He looks back up at the man.
“Steve? Is this…”
“Nat said I needed to be braver and just put myself out there and she said that you feel the same way I do so I thought maybe she’s right, maybe I should take a chance and if she was wrong, if I was wrong, I could just play it off as a joke and we could just forget about it and I could just kick her ass a little harder in training as revenge and it would be fine, because you have to know I would never usually do something like this, I’m just always too nervous to ask you out but I really am crazy about you and —”
“Steve. Steve!” Tony cuts off his adorable rambling. “Steve, she’s right. I do feel the same.” He looks back down at his gift and runs a finger down the soft lace. La Perla. Nice. “I love it.”
Steve grins, eyes crinkling and all too beautiful. “Yeah? You do?” he breathes. “I don’t have to kill Nat now?”
That startles a laugh out of Tony.
“You don’t. Come here.” He pulls Steve close and gently kisses him. Those lips are just as soft as he always imagined they would be. “Thank you. Let’s get dinner tomorrow?”
“Yes. Yeah, let’s do that.”
“Sooooooo, are you going to try it on for us?” Clint asks, breaking the spell over them and reminding Tony that they’re not alone.
Steve shoots him a glare. “No, he won’t be doing that.” He moves to sit next to Tony, wrapping an arm around his waist and tugging him closer.
“It won’t fit him anyway. It’s in Steve’s size,” Nat says casually. “Anyway, time to watch Elf.”
Tony sits frozen as the rest of them start getting ready for the movie, head stuck on the image of Steve decked out in blue lace and satin. He glances at Steve, who’s now laying out snacks on the coffee table for the team. Steve senses Tony’s eyes on him and looks back, winking before setting his attention back on his task.
Tony can’t wait for their date tomorrow.

Come Home Again
Rated G
Prompt: sharing a kiss after not seeing eachother for an extended period of time
750 words
The room was dark when Tony opened his eyes, a dull depthless darkness that was a far cry different from the mystical and star spotted blackness he'd been surrounded by in space.
Right… he was back.
Thinking was normally an easy task for Tony, but recalling the events that led him here was difficult and physically taxing. He remembered landing, remembered clinging to Nebula and limping down the ramp, remembered—
“Steve?” The word was horse and croaking as it left his lips. Steve's hands on his arm and shoulder, too tight and almost painful on his depleted worn out body, the solid heat at his side as Steve had helped him inside—that he remembered, but in a too good to be true dreamy way he wasn't sure he should believe.
“Tony?"
The sound of his name was startling, and Tony flinched harshly before sluggishly turning his head to find Steve sitting off to the side of his bed. His face was shadowed, the plains and angles of it illuminated gently by the subtle glow of the nano tech arc. Why did Steve have it?
“I'm sorry for pushing you like that,” Steve's words were hollow, his eyes downcast to the reactor.
Oh.
Tony closed his eyes against the returning memory. Steve’s questions, his own lunatic ramblings as he fell apart. They had ended on fighting so long ago and wound up the same way this time around. The cold of Siberia seemed better than the chemical fresh chill of the medical bay. He had been left alone and cold and broken hearted back then, but at least his spirit had still been intact. It felt like now he'd lost even that.
“It's fine,” Tony mumbled back softly, opening his eyes to find Steve now looking at him. The reactor's light was obscured by Steve's large palm curling around it, the duller lighting making his face look dark and sad.
“It was selfish,” the other man countered. “I shouldn't have—”
“No. No, no, nonono,” the word tumbled out of Tony in a weak and droning mantra, forcing Steve into silence. Tony went quiet too. Breathing and collecting his thoughts, chasing them like scared animals hiding in the fog of his brain. So much had happened, so much had gone wrong. He didn't want this with Steve. Couldn't handle it—not now. Later, later, there would be time for talking and healing and explanations. All the things they had destroyed and that had been lost between them—it wouldn't, couldn't be forgotten but right now, none of it mattered.
“I don't want to argue. I don't want to fight. I'm done fighting. We lost. We lost so much,” the words were fucking bitter—sharp and painful in his too tight dry throat.
“Tony,” Steve stood and moved to the edge of the bed, placing the reactor on the sheets. Its calming blue a bright contrast to the bland white of them.
“I don't care right now about all of our fuck ups—not yours, not mine. Steve, I just wanna come home.” Tony didn't realize the words had brought him to tears until Steve's palm settled over his cheek. Cupping gently like so many times in the past. Tony turned his face into the contact. “I wanna go home,” softer this time, the words spoken into the battle calloused skin of Steve's palm.
“You are home, honey,” Steve said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “You’re home.”
When Steve leaned down over him, the moment felt too long and drawn out. The few seconds it took for Steve's lips to meet his a back breaking straw on top of all the time they had been apart—all the touches they had robbed themselves of.
Tony pressed back simply, not having the energy for more than the firm contact of a couple grounding pecks. Steve lingered, like he always did. His soft mouth brushed tenderly along Tony's jaw, and he felt his stubble catch against the supple softness of the other man's lips.
“You're home now. Get some rest,” Steve whispered into his cheek.
Tony closed his eyes again, barely registering the dip and shift in the bed, already fading back into exhausted sleep. It was only when he heard the steady thump under his ear that he realized Steve had laid down with him; had shifted them so Tony was curled atop him, head pillowed on Steve's powerful chest.
He was home. It was a broken home—cracked picture frames, and unmade beds, and cobweb filled closets—but the foundation was still there. Strong and sturdy, and everything he needed.
