Update:
So…yesterday I posted a poll to see if people were interested in a Steter Week 2023. I didn’t know that someone was already planning to run one that had run it last year. That’s my bad. 😅
There is a Steter Week 2023 happening in July and @teenwerewoofs is the one who runs it.
I’m looking forward to it.
Tumblr media
Maybe I can come up with a Steter bingo or something but as for a ship week that is already overseen.
Sorry for any confusion. 🐺💕

Hi, I’m the anon who messaged about Scott being a Paragon. I wanted to say thank you for your response. I’m someone who adores the characters who fit the Paragon, due to them most often being kind, gentle and powerful so that was how I viewed Scott. But you clarified something that needed.
I do think I will still slot him in with those characters, personally, not as a paragon as you did make me see the error there, but due to those shared qualities that make them my favorites.
Tumblr media
I'm a little uncomfortable with terming our difference in perspective an error, to be quite honest. While the quest for a definitive truth is the goal of all investigation, when it comes to archetypes, genre, and other literary tools, I always try to keep in mind that there are no hard and fast boundaries.* I do appreciate that I managed to be persuasive!
On the other hand, Scott McCall and the men who carry the title in the MCU of Captain America, Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, have many things in common, so it's nowhere near an error to put them in the same category. The original purpose of this post was to underline what they had in common since the last post was about differences, but I got sidetracked in the best way.
Have you ever noticed how similar the plots of Captain America: Civil War and Teen Wolf's Season 5 were? I mean, it's quite astounding once you start identifying parallels. In order to reach nefarious goals, evil masterminds use an individual with historic ties to drive a wedge between the two primary heroes of a team dedicated to protection of the innocent, tearing the team apart by picking at their psychological and moral differences. I wonder if the Russo brothers cribbed from Jeff? I am kidding, of course. Similarities between plots are seldom because of plagiarism or a lack of creativity; they arise because of similarities in setting and in character, but they are no less creative because they bear resemblance to each other.
Scott McCall and Steve Rogers:
"They're not the bad guys. They're the victims. We shouldn't be killing the people we're supposed to save." / "If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could."
The most fundamental similarity between Scott McCall and Steve Rogers is the idea that true compassion requires direct action. It's easy to express compassion if it doesn't cost you anything, but Scott and Steve both understand that their moral codes demand more than just lip service. If Scott is to be "The Protector of Beacon Hills" that means he has to protect everyone in it, not just the people he likes, and that includes people like the chimeras such as Donovan Donati. Chimeras should not be punished because they had a genetic predisposition to aid the Doctors in their unholy experiments, and while Donovan was a petty criminal and a hothead who threatened the sheriff right in front of Scott, he didn't do anything that deserved execution. Similarly, if Steve is to live up to the ideas behind Captain America, he cannot let the whims of a bureaucracy that has proven itself inept and/or corrupt to Steve repeatedly in his lifetime dictate when he uses his power for the use of others. Specifically, if he is convinced that Bucky does not deserve to be made a scapegoat for the U.N. bombing, he can't allow the Sokovian Accords to tie his hands.
Stiles Stilinski and Tony Stark:
"You're the True Alpha! Guess what? All of us can't be True Alphas."/ "Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth."
Strangely enough, this is even the most powerful comparison. Both Stiles and Tony are pushed to do things that are ethically suspect because of deep set trauma. Their thinking has been clouded by events in the past that they have been unable to overcome. Stiles conceals Donovan's completely accidental death, playing into Theo's hands, because of deep seated insecurity caused by Claudia Stilinski's disease and the Nogitsune possession, neither of which he could have prevented. Stiles has no reason to think that Scott will reject him, but he's so convinced of his own negative evaluation of his nature that he justifies deceit, treachery, and violence because of it. Similarly, Tony is still smarting from the absolute disaster that his decisions wrought in Age of Ultron, even though they were inspired by history and the Scarlet Witch. Tony has already in the past refused to hand over his power to the government, but he's willing to do it now out of some misguided attempt to make up for the damage Ultron caused even though this won't really fix anything.
Theo Raeken and Baron Zemo:
"We won't tell Scott. 'Cause you can't lose your best friend, right? Even though we both know, you never needed him."/ "An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again. But one which crumbles from within? That's dead... forever."
Theo and Zemo both understand that the way forward is not through direct confrontation, which would only cause their enemies to pull together. Instead, they play on elements that remained unaddressed in the controlling relationship. For Theo, he picks at what my friend @momentofmemory called, very correctly, the Pedestal Problem. In response to Scott's rise throughout the series, the people around him have forgotten he's human as well and as a human there will be things he can't fix, but Scott's own sense of moral obligation won't let him not try. Baron Zemo understands that the superhero identity requires a distance from the system which suits the general public -- they can't protect the world without being alienated from it, and that alienation is, in itself, a weakness.
I had a great deal of fun comparing the two. I hope you appreciate my analysis.
*As an aside, allowing for a multiplicity of perspective in media analysis does not nor should ever equate with "all views are equal" You have to have evidence or at least deal with what actually existed within the media.

«Teen Wolf». Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski. «Everything will be fine...»
Notes:
I write in Russian and use a translator. If you find any errors, please let me know about it. ___
"Oh, come on, I'll just help Scott, everything will be fine," Stilinski assured the gloomy man, "well, what can happen if my best friend is a werewolf, and besides, a True Alpha? His pack will also help. Well, Derek, please…"
Derek just shook his head and opened his mouth, intending to challenge the words of the sheriff's son, but the sheriff stopped his mouth with a kiss.
"Please, Derek..." the man drawled, looking pleadingly at the werewolf.
And Hale gave up. After all, if Stiles is being looked after, maybe everything will really be fine?
The guy smiled contentedly and kissed the Alpha.
"I love you, my sour wolf."
 "I love you too, Stiles."
***
"Derek," Scott drawled unhappily, not daring to look into the eyes of his best friend's boyfriend.
The werewolf just growled:
"How did you manage to lose Stiles?" He turned away from the window he had been looking out of for about two minutes and looked at McCall.
The Alpha shrugged vaguely:
"He said himself that he would go with them…"
"WHAT?!"
***
The younger Stilinski was searched for four hours. The werewolves were checking the woods, houses, hospital, school, and the sheriff was driving along the roads of Bacon Hills, interviewing people.
The guy was found in the woods, and near the place where he was lying, there were traces of wheels.
He was bleeding openly and breathing heavily, as if after a long run.
Scott, whom Hale took with him, took a closer look at the wound. The vein was damaged, as the blood was dark, with a cherry tint and slowly flowed out of the wound.
Derek dropped to his knees next to Stiles and tried to feel for a pulse.
"We need to go to the hospital urgently," said the werewolf standing over them.
Sour wolf nodded and, carefully picking up the man in his arms, ran him to the car.
***
"Do you think he'll survive?" Isaac asked the Alpha quietly, glancing every now and then in the direction of the gloomy and very serious Derek.
McCall just shook his head.
 "I don't know," he mouthed.
Melissa and one of the surgeons who operated on the sheriff's son came out of the operating room, where Stiles was taken immediately after arriving at the hospital.
Three werewolves immediately ran up to them.
"Well, what?" Hale asked fearfully.
Mrs. McCall looked at her son and his friends with a very sad look.
"Unfortunately, the patient died on the operating table", the doctor replied, "I'm sorry".
Derek Hale's world suddenly lost all its colors.

For the Fanfic Emoji Ask!
👀
Ask me stuff about my fanfictions: Open
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
I currently have a WIP where Danny is the one who is bitten instead of Scott! It's a large project and I won't be publishing until "Season One" is completed - but have a little wip-snip! It's very small but.
Danny made his way to the preserve, seeing Stiles already standing there waiting for him.
Typical.
"Are you stalking me now, Stilnski? Lydia isn't here."
"Ha ha ha, it's a free country. I just happen to be walking in the woods too. Nothing to do with your conversation with Jackson this morning," quipped Stiles.
Danny held back a smirk. So Stiles had been listening to them. He scratched his side again, the rough bandages clinging to his skin tighter than he would have liked. But tight shirts showed more. Something snapped in the distance and he lifted his head up toward it. Through the treeline, Danny caught sight of someone unquestionably handsome watching them.
"This is private property."

Imagine Stiles and Derek’s family always accidentally meet up for vacation. Stiles and his dad spend a week at the beach, Derek’s family is there. Derek and his family go away camping, stiles and his dad are next to tehir campsite. It goes in for years and the hales always invite stiles to play with them cause he’s an only child. And stiles would stick to Derek and Derek would have to take care of him and Cora while all the other older kids pups hang out on their own. After the fire and after all the supernatural chaos dies down they go on vacation together.
What they didn’t know was that it was intentional. Talia always invited the sheriff and stiles when they went on vacation and the sheriff did the same.

i think i’m the comedic relief character. the one that makes the main character(s) seem smart and heroic and to give support and advice to them and then be tossed aside once they’ve got the boy or reached their goal. the Stiles Stilnski. the Ian Malcolm. the Olaf. the Dory. the Iago. the Shaggy and Scooby. the Darcy Lewis. the Baymax. the Mabel Pines.
ok that was kinda depressing and boring, sorry about that self loathing.

Forget vague fanfic asks, I have a hugely specific one! I recently MAINLINED one your fics, the name escapes me, but it was an alternate universe where Scott goes with Deucalion, and needs help escaping the Alpha Pack. I am so curious about how you came up with the idea for Stiles's character in that fic. It was so original to me, and consistently unnerving as he referred to himself/Nogitsune as "we." Please also say the name of the fic so I can scream at anyone who sees this ask to READ IT READ IT READ IT.
Tumblr media
The story you are referring to is The Last Part of Me, which is one of my earliest stories. I can tell because after your glowing praise I reread a chapter and realized how much I needed to revise it. I'm still glad you enjoyed it though. Thank you very much.
I had three goals when writing this story. First, I wanted to underline what sometimes gets lost in the fandom, that the villains in Teen Wolf were ultimately defeated not because of 'plot armor' but because of a theme consciously embraced by the writers: the morality of compassion and resiliency, exemplified by Scott, would be able to overcome the vengeance-driven strength of the villains in the end. Yet, for the sake of dramatic action, the narrative could never act as if it were a foregone conclusion that Scott and his pack would win. One critical incident going a different way, and things could have ended quite differently. Fandom, to their detriment, tends to extract individual scenes from their context and then evaluate them in some sort of pristine blank space. Of course, that's going to make certain people look worse or better than they are.
Second, I wanted to reinforce the idea that Scott and Stiles (and Allison and Lydia and Jackson and Isaac and so on) are teenagers in the show, and thus have only a limited amount of skills and resources to draw upon when confronting the horrors that they do. That is not to say they're incompetent; they're young! When Scott gets distracted by Allison (something that happens though not near as much as fandom implies), he's a 16-year-old feeling romantic love for the first time, not a 30-something social worker ditching his responsibilities. When Stiles mocks people's abuse and disabilities, he's a neurodivergent child coping with stress by projection, not a professional politician who should know better. The reason Scott and Stiles end up as they do in my story is because they're teenagers going through hell who simply don't have the life experiences to cope as oppose to, say, veteran first responders with access to training and support would.
Third, I wanted to write a dark story that actually explored the dimensions of defeat. In this tale, Scott and Stiles suffer mental and physical violation and social exclusion to such an extent that they can't possibly be okay at the end of it. Outside forces -- adult forces -- make deliberate decisions that leave the burden of consequences on these two characters. (To be clear, in this story it's the Hales and the Argents who make those decisions). I hope I got through to the reader at the end of the story while Scott and Stiles aren't dead, they're not in a good place and they won't be any time soon.
What I usually find when I read supposed dark stories is what I call exploitation stories. These stories are where characters commit rape and/or murder, indulge in torture and/or sexual abuse, or espouse tyranny and brutality as a lifestyle and yet the end result could be summed up as "and they lived happily ever after to the end of their days." For example, do you know how many stories I've read where Peter or Stiles murder Scott for the crime of not kissing white ass yet there are no emotional consequences for Stiles, all their friends and families either agree with the result or don't care, and not a single authority makes even an effort to investigate. Not only is the story they created morally repulsive, it's incoherent. Scott may have been the lead protagonist, but if Stiles truly believed that Scott should have submitted to the Hales, the story would have been different.
But that's academic. The point of these particular and so-called 'dark' stories isn't to explore the consequences of the break down of society and individual morality; it's about indulging in the darker aspects of the writer and the reader. I'm not arguing anything like the censorship of exploitative fiction, but it's not the same as a thoughtful exploration of a dark topic, and I reject conflating the two genres.
So I tried to write one of my own. I'm glad that someone enjoyed it.

Conversation
Derek: I can't believe you got shot.
Stiles: I got shot in my bullet-proof vest. It's just a couple of bruises, Der, I'm okay.
Derek: Why don't they make better vests? That's not bullet proof. It's like when you fall in the pool and your watch stops working; that's water resistant, not water proof.
Stiles: *sighs and pulls up his shirt to show Derek his bruises and wound dressing* I am just fine. See? It's just a couple of bruises.
Derek: *flustered* How long do you need to be taped up like that?
Stiles: I don't know, a couple of days maybe. You relaxed now?
Derek: Yeah, I'm relaxed now. But, you know, if you need anyone to help you change those dressings...

Tired of studying, Stiles talks Theo into sneaking into a nightclub on the other side of town.
Yes, that's right, Stiles talks Theo into sneaking out. Theo wants to make a good impression on the Sheriff. He is dating his son after all.
So finally after agreeing, mostly to shut Stiles up, Theo agrees. The thing is Theo just has on a pair of basketball shorts and a wife-beater. Oh darn, looks like they can't go out after all.
Well isn't just luck, or a curse, depending on how you look at it, that Stiles just so happens to have a pair of Theo's jeans that he had leftover a few weeks ago. And Stiles was even nice enough to wash them for Theo. Such a good boyfriend!! Stiles also give him a gray t-shirt to wear. He also gives him a plaid shirt, his favorite plaid shirt, and damn if Theo doesn't look hella hot in Stiles' shirts.
They get to the club and walk up to the bar. They order drinks and Theo walks away to go to the restroom. He's not even 10 feet away before he hears Stiles and some other guy arguing. He barely just turns around and see's Stiles slug the guy. NOPE. Time to go, the cops are going to be called and they can NOT be here when the police arrive. Theo steps over the guy, grabs Stiles and drags him out of the club and into his truck, and speeds back to Stiles house. Theo is PISSED. He's probably not going to spend the night.
Stiles explains that the loudmouth guy had made a crude joke about "Gay lumberjacks" at Stiles and Theo's expense.
So, Stiles was defending him, them, he was defending them. Ok, guess he can let that slide. He always did think Stiles was hot when he was mad. Hell Theo still had a hard-on for Void!Stiles.
