hate to be a hater on the main … but this season of ted lasso excels (once again) at team dynamic and the found family elements and i think the finale absolutely nailed that, i cried, i laughed, it was perfect on that. now as for the individual stories and relationships… yeah, let’s leave it at that
#(rant below ignore me)#i think making longer episodes allowed them to add stories that felt so pointless to me#what was the point of zava? to make jamie understand something about himself? could have done that better with just the roy plot#i would have understood roy and keeley breaking up of it was like ‘let’s both grow as individuals’#and roy kinda did but apparently not enough because his plot at the end is how he do better so i guess he didn’t#jamie had the best development only to then lose part of it by throwing the random video comment?? like why??#keeley my love … from the random friend that added nothing to the story to an undervelopped love interest plot line … they did u so dirty#why the hell was ted so emotionally off this last episode instead of actually talking the time to proper end things with london and everyone#rebecca was SOBBING and ted was like ‘well gotta go’ ??#it’s not about the ship or anything but what ?? and rebecca … love that she stayed with the club#but to have her end up with some random creepy man she met once and whose name WE DONT EVEN KNOW#i have no issues with ted going home to his son. it makes perfect sense. but it felt so weird#the nate plot was wrapped kinda poorly too??#sam colin and most of the guys from the team were amazing#and the found family and team dynamic was still amazing as always#the beard and jane relationship was always weird to me because it feels like joke after joke of.. abuse?#do they get married or was it a dream?? and if so was the whole sequence a dream? and if it wasn’t WHO DID THE CGI FOR THE WEDDING 💀#we spent more time with these characters this season and it doesn’t feel that way and idk this season felt weird at so many points#I LOVE THIS SHOW I DO!! first 2 seasons are one of my all time favourite seasons of a sitcom!! and i still enjoyed a lot about s3 <33#anyway sorry to be a hater on the main but it was just a weird season to end it on#anti ted lasso#<- i really don’t wanna upset anyone i just felt like ranting a little 💀 pls don’t hate me#ted lasso spoilers

Best part about watching a show out of order whenever it happens to come on TV is that I find out I've not seen some episodes

Ok but how would farmtale sans propose??? And how would he act as a boyfriend???? My mind is burning with thoughts of this man and its just iyfitdiydoyfhof
eeeeeeeeexcellentt. The farm boy. give him to meeee
I think a good summary of boyfriend farmer is if a sitcom husband was competent and empathetic. He acts like a big silly dopey guy around you, tripping over himself when you smile. You're his favourite person, and it's obvious to anyone who sees him. He thinks you're the catch of the century - he won't admit it, but he always considered you out of his league.
Every time he tries to be serious, he remembers he's dating you, this is real, you actually like him as much as he likes you. Then he gets fluttery and silly all over again.
The first person he told that you were dating was his favourite goose. THEN he told Papyrus.
It takes a while to get him comfortable enough to commit, you'd have to already be pretty close beforehand to become a couple. So the only real difference in your interactions will be that he's now got an excuse to be as physically affectionate as he wants. He still acts like you're best friends, except you can't escape him now, he'll constantly be carrying or cuddling you. You signed up for this.
Matching straw hats
He also enjoys finally having a pass to constantly bother you - before, he used to have to think of boring things like reasons to show up at your door. He was running out of movies to pretend he wanted to watch. Now he can just teleport in. Why? Boyfriend. That's why.
Personality of a clingy barn cat who only likes you.
He still flirts the same way, constantly bringing you back nice things from the farm, food that's as fresh as possible. He wants you to get used to eating their food. After all, soon enough you'll be living with him, right?
He's an ass smacker. He can't help it. He's used to patting animals affectionately to get them to move along, and the habit of patting things he cares about has passed on to you. If you hear him coming up behind you, there's a nine out of ten chance he's about to go in for a smack.
EXTRA self conscious about how he smells now that you're spending even more time together. Kiss him even when he's mucky, he'll appreciate it.
Now that he's your boyfriend, he can be your permanent insect removal service without you feeling guilty. Just give him one smooch as payment! Or a lil' somethin' else, if you catch his drift.
(TWO smooches)
As for proposals? He'd probably propose under the stars. He'd wait for the perfect clear night, when there's a meteor shower, then set up a stargazing spot for the both of you with food and a blanket and fairy lights. It might take a while for him to find the perfect night but it's worth it.
So if you ever catch him looking suspiciously long at nighttime weather schedules, you know why.

trying to process the grief for someone who i never knew personally but someone who’s proficient comedic talent impacted my life profoundly. the news of matthew perry’s passing has put a knot in my chest. a feeling i can’t even comprehend. matthew’s performance as chandler bing was my favourite of all time without a doubt. i have seen every episode of friends at least a dozen times, watched it religiously as a child, and even still to this day. much of my personality came from chandler bing. he is the blueprint for sarcastic comedy. this hurts more than i could have ever anticipated. words are not enough to convey my feelings.  matthew was not only part of my childhood and my favourite sitcom character; he was a person. a human being who struggled his entire life. he deserved a long, clean life of happiness and love. i’ll always remember that, even while matthew battled addiction while working on friends, everyone who worked on the show said he always showed up to work on time and put on his best performance as chandler because he loved making people laugh, even when he was struggling in his life. rest in peace, matthew. you will live on eternally through your work and the joy you brought to so many of us. thank you. you are so loved.

I feel like sitcoms from the Golden Age (2000s and early 2010s) would often make too much fun of autistic people. Even the sitcoms that are my favourites, such as Brooklyn Nine Nine and Modern Family are quite harsh (don't get me wrong, they're still some of the greatest ones) and would only have main characters with traits of ADHD (such as Luke and Phil from Modern Family and Jake from B99), which is great, but never autistic ones. Characters with autistic traits would often get made fun for their traits.
What I think Community did waaaay better than any of them is that they have a canonically autistic main character and his autistic traits are embraced. Literally no one makes fun of Abed (the autistic character) except for that 1 time Jeff says he has "Asperger's" as an insult. Other than that none of the main characters ridicule Abed for his autism and treat him with respect and as a regular human being.
What I also like is that they're not acting like Abed hasn't struggled at all. They don't act like autistic people never suffer. Abed still has been bullied. Some people still call him weird and so on. However Abed has found his people. He has his found family that love him and I think it's pretty big and amazing that a show made in 2009 went this far.
Other than that Community also has a character with ADHD traits (Troy, maybe someone else too) and has PLENTY of LGBT+ content. I would definitely recommend it.
(i love community)

Your body ached. That was the only thing you could feel. Actually, that was incorrect; you also had a headache and a snotty nose and you were pretty sure your temperature could boil water. In essence, you felt awful. You’d toughed it out for as long as you could, making yourself a steaming hot tea and cozying into the sofa for the night. It wasn’t making you feel any better. So, in a last ditch effort of saving your night, you dialled your boyfriend.
You smiled as his croaky, half-asleep voice came through your phone, murmuring your name.
“I’m sorry, did I wake you?” You asked, brows furrowed as you checked the time, gasping when it read 1:45am. You thought it was still closer to eleven.
“Don’t worry about it, couldn’t sleep anyway,” Luke lied and you frowned, though he couldn’t see it through the screen.
“No, it’s dumb. I’m sorry I woke you up. Night, Luke.” You moved to hang up when Luke interrupted you.
“Baby, wait! Clearly something’s bothering you. What’s up?” You smiled despite your discomfort, your boyfriend always boosting your mood without even trying.
“Nothing,” You pouted in your puddle of blankets, “Just feel sick.” You could feel Luke’s pity without him saying anything and weren’t sure whether to be indignant or grateful.
“Can you stay awake for twenty more minutes, love?”
“I guess so, why?” You asked, turning the TV back on as something to keep you from sleeping.
“I love you,” Was all he said, hanging up on you abruptly. You smiled softly to yourself, willing your eyes to stay open as you tried to focus on the sitcom in front of you.
You were just dozing off when you heard your apartment door unlocking and the brief shuffling of feet in the entryway. Your grin brightened, the familiar butterflies returning to your chest, even after months of being with Luke. The man in questioned approached you quietly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead as you looked up at him.
“Luke, it’s 2 am, what are you doing here?” You asked despite the obvious answer, opening your shield of blankets for him to crawl onto the sofa with you. He made you wait, tipping out his reusable shopping bag onto the coffee table in front of you. There lay a pint of ice cream, tea bags, painkillers, and your favourite chocolate. Suddenly you weren’t sure if the heat on your face was fever or blush. Silently you held your arms out, and Luke dove into them with all the enthusiasm of a child, peppering your faces with all the kisses he could manage.
“Couldn’t let my girl be sick on her own,” He mumbled, nuzzling himself into the crook of your neck, eliciting a bout of giggles from you.
“My very own Prince Charming,” You grinned, pecking his temple. After a gratuitous moment of cuddling Luke peeled himself off you, taking on the role of concerned caretaker. He was quick to dart into the kitchen, turning the kettle on for your tea and grabbing a spoon for the ice cream he’d bought. Sitting himself in the vacant spot next to you he fixed his focus onto the TV.
“What are we watching?” He asked, pulling the lid off the ice cream tub for you.
“How I Met Your Mother, I’ve just reached season seven.” Luke gasped dramatically, holding his hands over his chest in faux outrage.
“You continued without me? How could you?” You laughed at his accusatory tone, shrugging your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, Lukey. You have to forgive me though, I’m sick,” You punctuated the statement with a pathetic cough, smiling as Luke easily settled down.
You watched in silence for a bit, both giggling at the stupid jokes. After a while you felt Luke looking at you seriously, but chose not to think much of it, continuing to tune in to the show. When he pulled out a thermometer, you raised an eyebrow. Luke wasn’t usually one to be so prepared, but you let him rest it on your tongue nonetheless. When it read a concerningly high number Luke frowned, silently popping the painkillers out of their packaging, feeding you with the insistence of a fed up mother hen.
“Why aren’t you a nurse?” You joked, swallowing the medication with a mouthful of melted ice cream, “Rockstar be damned.”
“Only for you, love.”
“That’s not true, I’ve seen you fretting over Reggie,” You laughed, and Luke couldn’t help but join you.
“That’s fair. You’re my favourite, though.”
“How unexpected.” You craned your neck to press a kiss to his jaw, revelling in the dumb grin that crept onto his face.
You both settled into silence, you leant into Luke’s side, his hands rubbing soft circles into your thigh. You could feel yourself drifting in and out of sleep, never quite able to stay in it for one reason or another. The blanket was too hot, you were cold without it, your head hurt. Nothing was quite right and all you wanted to do was sleep for as long as humanly possible.
“Luke?” You whispered, in case he was already asleep.
“Yes, love?” He replied, shifting his position to look down at you. You faltered for a moment, overwhelmed with the pure adoration in his eyes.
“Will you play for me?” Luke was up in a second, arranging you on the sofa. You giggled as he manhandled you, lying you down and wrapping you tightly in your blanket so you couldn’t escape. You teased him about being his captive audience as he tuned his guitar quickly, never being so grateful for his perfect pitch.
Without anymore holdups Luke began to play, plucking softly at the strings to create a melody that filled the air of your little apartment. His playing was like a siren call, pressing weights on your eyelids until you could barely stand to keep them open. You watched him while you could, admiring the way the faint light from the kitchen lamp made him look like an Adonis, his hair illuminated in gold and his features accentuated by the shadows. You couldn’t believe he was your boyfriend. Luke Patterson, heartthrob of Julie and the Phantoms was your dorky, adoring boyfriend who would make supermarket trips in the middle of the night for you. Who had your favourite ice cream memorised and your key attached to his, so he could come see you whenever he missed you (which was pretty much always).
Despite the various aches and pains that had overtaken your body, the only thing you could feel as you drifted off to sleep was the burning ball of light in your chest, a chemical mixture of joy and love and gratitude, overtaking your senses one by one until you were asleep, dreams filled of beautiful images of your boyfriend.
When you woke up the next morning, you figured out it wasn’t morning at all. Luke had evidently switched off your phone’s alarm after you’d fallen asleep, and it was well into early afternoon when you’d arisen. To his credit though, the sleep had done you some good, and you felt much less like walking death after an intense sleep.
You untangled yourself from the knit blanket, your feet wobbly on the hard wood floors. You had serious post-nap daze, and wandered through your flat looking for your boyfriend. The poorly made sheets on your actual bed told you where Luke slept last night — or this morning, more accurately — you smiled at the way he’d arranged your stuffed animals.
Stuck to the fridge under your New York City magnet was a note from Luke, explaining he had to go to rehearsal but he’d be back later to check on you. You pulled the paper off, travelling back to your room to put the note in your ‘Luke’ box, adding to the collection of notes and drawings he’d given you inconsequentially that you’d held onto.
As the afternoon ticked by you’d gotten onto your computer, figuring that although you were still ill you should try and get something productive done. You were armed with your box of tissues as you got started on an assignment you had due at the end of the week, and slipped your headphones on to get into the headspace.
You screamed as a pair of arms wrapped around you from behind, quickly dissolving into giggles as you realised it was only Luke, back from rehearsal.
“Your voice still sounds scratchy, baby, how are you feeling?” He asked, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“Better, promise. Tomorrow I’ll probably go to class if I get another good night’s sleep.”
“That’s my girl.” He grinned, and you felt your insides melting all over again. You closed the laptop, knowing you weren’t going to get much more done now that Luke was with you.
You spent the evening together, ordering in pizza from the place around the corner and getting slightly wine drunk as Luke told you all about his earlier rehearsal and the antics of his band. He sang you part of the new song he and Julie had written and you applauded dramatically, only stopping when you broke into a coughing fit.
“Wanna watch something?” He asked when you grew tired again, cuddling up to him like a cat.
“Barbie?” You asked hopefully, looking up at him with wide eyes. Luke sighed dramatically, but you knew he was just pretending not to like the animated movies you’d grown up on.
“Only if it’s Island Princess,” He offered and you nodded enthusiastically.
The two of you settled in for the movie night, Luke getting much more into the movie as it went on, as he always did. By the end you were singing duets — your voice considerably less pleasing than his, especially due to your illness — Luke taking on the role of the prince letting you be Ro.
As the credits rolled you felt your eyes closing again, and you felt eerily like you did as a younger girl, falling asleep on the couch after a Barbie movie. This was better though, because now you had Luke next to you. He’d taken his role as big spoon extremely seriously, and had all but become one with the couch, pressing into the back as he wrapped his arms around you tightly.
You shifted your position to face him, watching his face relax into contentedness as he tried to doze off to sleep. Feeling you watch him he cracked one eye open, mouth producing a dumb grin that made butterflies erupt in your chest.
“What?” He asked, but you got the distinct impression he knew exactly what you were thinking.
“Nothing,” You lied, but gave in easily, “You’re pretty.”
“You’re pretty too. Now go to sleep.” You nodded, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“Kay, goodnight Lukey. I love you.”
“Love you too, my girl. So much.” His answer was muffled by him pressing his face into your hair to pull you closer, but you couldn’t wipe the smile from your face even as sleep enveloped you.

10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 Tags
Thank you so much @idle-brit for tagging me!This was lots of fun :) 💖
My tags: @delyth88, @elymusplant, @galaxythreads, @chemical-processes. No pressure to answer, of course :)
1. Loki (MCU)
Tumblr media
As much as I love everyone on this list, there is absolutely no competition for number 1. Loki has been my favourite character of all time for nearly 6 years now (because clearly the best time to join someone's fandom is after they've just been murdered), and is showing absolutely no signs of being replaced anytime soon. I have a Loki blog, for god's sake. The brodinsons are my favourite relationship in any kind of media, ever. I love them so, so much. Loki's a million different things and feelings, all at the same time, all fighting with each other, which makes for a wonderfully complex and nuanced character. Also, he's hilarious. Look at that eye roll. This is a man who hates his life, which makes me feel better about mine. Thanks, Loki.
2. Klaus Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy)
Tumblr media
As will become obvious throughout this list, I love me an emotionally traumatised crazy person. Klaus is that. One of the characters who makes me laugh the most, ever, show-stopping dress sense, and a bucketload of unresolved trauma which goes largely ignored by Klaus, the other characters and the narrative itself? It was love at first sight. Their banter with the other characters, especially Ghost Ben (rip) is one of my favourite aspects of the show. Here's to hoping that Klaus won't be getting the Allison treatment in season 4!
3. Pippa Fitz-Amobi (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder)
Tumblr media
I binge-read the entire AGGTM series earlier this year, and instantly fell in love with it. Pip is one of my favourite protagonists ever. Impossibly clever, compassionate, obsessive, badass, and a teensy bit unhinged. What's not to love? I would die for her. I'd say that I'd kill for her, but I think she's got that covered. I think she's written in a very realistic way, firstly as a genius 17 year old girl who doesn't really know what she's getting into, and later as a haunted individual who wants to stop investigating but can't. The way she politely knocks on people's front doors to dig up their traumas, accuse them of murder and all-round ruin their lives is everything to me. She is my blorbo. I am so, so excited for the show to come out, and I'm sure that Emma Myers will do a wonderful job as Pip!
4. Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)
Tumblr media
One of the best-written characters, in one of the best-written series ever. Reading from her perspective is such a delight- she's endlessly suspicious of everyone around her, constantly on survival mode, trusting very few people and relying on exactly no one (to begin with, at least). She's a random teenage girl, from the poorest district, and she wins the Hunger Games. She's so mentally unstable that she has to be sedated, and still she's made to be the face of a rebellion. She's rude, and kind of unlikeable. She adopts all the weakest tributes, at risk to herself, knowing that they won't win. She's doomed to fail by the narrative. She's the it girl of 2010s dystopian YA fiction. Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress, who does a beautiful job portraying the depth and conflict of Katniss in the films. The themes and social commentary of the Hunger Games is one of its (many) strong points, and I am so so glad that people are talking about it again, because it is my favourite book series out there.
5. Mitchell Pritchett (Modern Family)
Tumblr media
I have no idea what to say about this man, I just love him. He just like me fr. What an icon. Impeccable music taste. I've started saying, "no my god" now, and nobody understands what I'm talking about. Even in a sitcom, my favourite is the one with issues that he refuses to talk about or fix. The episode where he's trying to hide that he dressed up as spiderman makes me cry-laugh. Claire's speech at his wedding makes me just cry. He's not a perfect man, but he's certainly better than everyone else.
6. Shin Tsukimi (Your Turn to Die)
Tumblr media
My favourite cringefail loser! I said Katniss was doomed by the narrative in a metaphorical way. This idiot is actually doomed.
No but in all seriousness, I do really love him. Before the beginning of the game, he was just a relatively normal young man- but, when confronted with the inevitability of his own death, he made himself into a monster to survive. He has a violent vendetta against the local badass teenage girl, who is traumatised as hell already and does not need Shin chipping in as well, thank you very much. I love his relationship with Kanna, his biological sister; how he uses her, manipulates her, and still cares for her so much that he dies for her with a smile on his face in the Emotion route. Conversely, in the Logic route, his actions are a direct cause of her death, and I just love how much YTTD hates siblings. I hope that his past with Midori is explored more in either a mini-episode or the final part of the game, because I find it sooo interesting. I'm super excited to see whether he actually has no chance of survival, or whether he makes it out, against the odds, on one of the routes. He's a bit useless, so I won't get my hopes up.
7. Rue Bennett (Euphoria)
Tumblr media
I think it goes without saying that Euphoria has its issues, lol. Sam Levinson is an idiot. While a lot of the show (especially season 2) feels shallow and like it doesn't care about its characters, Rue's storylines always have heart and depth and I am so invested in her arc. It's no wonder that Zendaya won 2 Emmys for this role, because her acting is phenomenal! Rue feels so real to me, in the way that she's trying so hard to stay sober but she falls down and relapses time and time again. Recovery isn't linear, but she's getting there, and I adore her with all my heart. Her relationships with Lexi, her mother, her sister, and her sponsor, Ali, are my favourites, and the healthiest for her, in my opinion. Her brief friendship/ romance with Jules may have kept her more solidly sober than anything else in the show, but Jules (understandably) cracks under the pressure of Rue's mental health, and can't be there for her. Rue needs to heal for herself, which she appears to be doing at the end of S2.
8. Max Mayfield (Stranger Things)
Tumblr media
Duffer brothers, please just let her be happy.
Despite only being introduced in Season 2, Max has, in my opinion, had the best character development out of everyone on the show. Her growth from someone standoffish, rude, and uninterested in the group (maybe I'm being a bit harsh. She was, like, 12) to someone who is willing to risk her life to help her friends and Hawkins means so much to me. The scene in "Dear Billy" (S4, Ep4) where she escapes from Vecna remains my favourite in the whole show and will probably be burned into my brain forever. Her relationships with Lucas and El are very sweet, and some of my favourites in Stranger Things. Her final line in S4, after all her struggles over the season, being that she doesn't want to die literally breaks my heart. I hope she gets some degree of a happy ending in the final season. She was my first profile picture when I joined this hellsite, and I love her a lot.
9. Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables)
Tumblr media
The shenanigans that this girl gets up to never fail to make me laugh. The bit where she accidentally dyes her hair green and then has to hack it all off makes me feel awful for her, but. it's hilarious. Sorry, Anne. Her friendship with Diana is so sweet but also so funny to me because they really are the most chaotic duo of the 1880s. The scene where Anne accidentally gives her alcohol instead of fruit juice is so mortifying but so, so funny. Amidst all of the insane situations that Anne gets into are a lot of really heartwarming moments and relationships. Matthew and Marilla adopting Anne, even though they wanted a boy, because she's so endearing and alone in the world is probably what made me who I am today. I still haven't gotten around to watching Anne with an E, but I've heard it's amazing. I look forward to watching it when I have the time :).
10. Daphne Blake (Scooby Doo)
Tumblr media
My first ever favourite character! Another one who I don't have a tonne to say about. She's an icon, she's a legend, and she is the moment. She has done nothing wrong, ever. She knows martial arts, so watch out.
Honourable mentions: Thor (MCU), Finnick Odair (The Hunger Games), Gretchen Weiners (Mean Girls), Jake Peralta (Brooklyn 99), Maurice Moss (The IT Crowd), The Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who), James (The End of the F***ing World), Ali Abdul (Squid Game).
If you read all of this then thanks, and have a great day!

Davey stood in front of the many varieties of milk, trying to remember which one Sarah liked in her coffee.
Okay, yes. She wasn’t coming for another few days but Davey had a bottle of wine and an old sitcom just waiting for his undivided attention this weekend. So he was going to buy this milk, go home, put on his favourite pyjamas, and not leave the couch till Monday morning.
“Hey, babe!”
A strange man walked over to him and leaned close, rapidly shooting off a few sentences.
“The name’s Jack. The gal with the black hair - probably glaring - is my ex. Would you please just go along so I can get rid of her?”
Davey was stunned by this, honestly, random situation.
Without really thinking, he smiled and exclaimed, “Jackie, what are you doing here?”
Jack beamed at him and stood by his side, wrapping an arm around his waist.
Davey cast a gaze to the side, only able to take in the smattering of freckles on the tanned skin and those sharp hazel eyes before turning his attention to the woman who stood opposite them, arms crossed and severely displeased.
“Remember I told you about Anne? She couldn’t wait to meet you.”
How someone as charismatic as Jack had ever been with someone who looked that sour and wicked was a mystery to Davey.
Nonetheless, he smiled and introduced himself. “I’m Davey. It’s lovely to meet you.” Just to annoy her more, Davey rested a hand on Jack’s chest.
“See? Told you I have a boyfriend.”
“Uh huh.” Anne was evidently still unconvinced.
Jack sighed theatrically. “I had big plans for this but oh well.”
And in yet another twist to what was supposed to be a dull day for Davey, Jack got down on one knee in front of him. He reached into his pocket and produced a ring.
‘I am getting proposed to, in the dairy aisle of the supermarket, by a total stranger.’ Davey narrated mentally. ‘Sarah is gonna love this story.’
(psst. feel free to ask questions about this silly little piece)

Zawe Ashton on resilience, tackling complex roles and the fight for on-screen representation
The actress took to the stage at the 2023 Bazaar Summit
Tumblr media
When Zawe Ashton looks back at her career so far, she’s a little surprised: not at her own success, but at how she’s managed to navigate a notoriously tough industry so well. “When I talk about what I’ve been through, I think, why have I kept going?” the actress and writer told the audience at the 2023 Bazaar At Work Summit, at which she was a headline speaker. “I wonder if, to even become an actor, there needs to be something inside you that is already a little bit fractured. I think there’s something within me that somehow knows this level of crazy. When it gets really hard is when I feel my strongest or most determined.”
Tumblr media
Anyone who has watched and loved the cult favourite TV show Fresh Meat will be very thankful indeed that Ashton did keep going. Her character – the straight-talking, drug-taking, chain-smoking and anti-establishment Vod Nordstrom – was a highlight of Jesse Armstrong’s hit series. The popularity of the sitcom-style show (and particularly of Vod) made Ashton a household name and, to this day, it’s a role she’s proud of playing. “Vod was very left-field, free-thinking and probably, I would say, a queer character without that being made explicit,” she said. “Fresh Meat was 11 years ago now, but there’s still a whole new wave of people who come up to me – lots of young actresses, of every ethnicity – who say thank you to me for being smelly, unlikeable, strange and punky, because there aren’t a wealth of women who are doing that on screen.”
Tumblr media
Ashton clearly feels passionate about portraying real women in her work. In 2019, she published a fictionalised memoir, Character Breakdown, the title of which refers to the couple of lines an actor will receive with a script, which describe who the character is – for women, these mini biographies are often laughably simplistic and purely aesthetic. “They go from one extreme to another,” Ashton sighed with disbelief. “Where do we draw the line? If you’re not seeing women’s humanity, if you’re not seeing a full human life when you’re thinking about the ways in which you’re putting these descriptions together, then you’re not valuing women. And that’s a much bigger conversation than my industry.”
Tumblr media
Throughout her career, Ashton has fought to play complex roles and has always emphasised the importance of making multi-faceted women of every ethnicity visible on screen. When she took the role of Vod, “growing up as a young, biracial girl in Hackney,” she was “willing to do whatever it took to make that character as edgy and authentic as I felt she could be, so that it would invite anyone not seeing that kind of representation to feel really seen”. In 2022, Ashton scored a role in the period drama Mr Malcom’s List, which was a seminal moment for her – and one which she credits to the success of Bridgerton's diverse casting. “I had never seen any actor who looked like me invited to the table to perform [something like that],” she said. “I hadn’t known necessarily that I was hurting so much, until I saw that representation happen and the success of it take everyone by storm.”
Since then, Ashton has continued to push the envelope. This year, she played villain Dar-Benn – a role traditionally written as male – in The Marvels, opposite Brie Larson as Carol Danvers. “The process of learning stunts and fighting is probably one of the most empowering things I’ve done!” she laughed. “But when I thought the film was finished, I got pregnant and had my baby. And then they told me to come back and reshoot basically the whole movie. That has been the biggest journey for me: my physical wellness, my ability to endure, to mentally switch back into that place postpartum and come back to kick some ass again.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, a boundary-breaking superhero feels like Ashton’s best-suited role to date. Hi, I'm looking for a TTRPG mostly about romance that isn't just for 2 players. I know Thirsty Sword Lesbians exists but I was wondering what else is out there?
THEME: Romance
Hello friend! Here's a few games that are about romance in one way or another. You might also want to check out my Make it Gay post if you are looking for specifically queer romance stories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Love Balloon, by Mythworks. The Love Balloon is a light roleplaying story game for 2-6 players inspired by the wholesome yet innuendo-laden sitcoms of the late 70’s and early 80’s - shows like The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Three’s Company.
No other ship has sailed the winds more than the magnificent Cloud Nine. Welcome at any port, its guests - from Kings and Presidents, to Celebrities and Athletes, Dentists and even Stowaways  -  all have attested to the ship's magical voyages of the heart.  Come book your stay today and experience what it's like to float your troubles away!
This is a GM-less game that is meant to replicate a sitcom, with six characters to be controlled by the table. There are some guidelines as to the kinds of characters that will be present in this sitcom; part of the story has already been built for you. The details of each character are still up to you, and who falls in love with who is tied to both character choice and roll of the dice. Each day on the float will see characters run into each-other and engage in minor adventures, romantic escapades, and interpersonal conflict.
This game is less of an immersive experience and feels more like you as the table are a writers room, figuring out the plot of a sitcom. There are roll tables for the crew member and the guests involved in the plot, as well as for port of calls and hi-jinx. This is a great game for folks who want to deal with romantic themes at a comfortable distance, as well as folks that like a game with more light-hearted themes. There’s a lot of structure to The Love Balloon, similar to a recipe for a sitcom episode, so if you want heavy drama or spontaneity, then you might want to look somewhere else.
The Rain Still Falls In My Heart, by Roz.
The Rain Still Falls in my Heart is a one page table-top roleplaying game about messy high school relationships and purple prose; it's a game about girls and lesbians of all genders. Nothing is straight forward at this school; everyone has a secret and a past, and nobody knows how to talk about their true feelings.
This is for all of the fanfic writers out there. You are all students in a girls school, and you’re all lesbians. This is a game about complicated backstories, poetic infatuation, and overreactions. When something terrible happens, you will flip a coin to see whether you compose yourself or be honest. I love the options for Compose Yourself. You either keep your cool (and make her think that you don’t even care) or overreact (and lose your cool, break something, or run away).
If you want a simple game that embodies the most dramatic elements of shoujo anime, this might be the game for you. If you want a game where you roll dice, or a game with more complex character creation, you might need to look somewhere else.
Grave Liaisons, by Yugie.
Grave Liasons is a PvP roleplaying game powered by chocolate where you play as nosy ghosts trying to ensure that their descendants get matched with the perfect partner (according to them).
While playing, players take on the roles of SPIRITS, who are trying to ensure or prevent a match, and DESCENDANTS, who are just normal people looking for love.
This is a funky little game that uses chocolates to represent your ability to influence the world around you. Each player is both a nosy ghost and the descendant of someone else. As ghosts, they will meddle in the affairs of their descendants, in the hopes of providing a suitable match. Your chocolates represent your spooky powers, which are undefined in the game, so you’ll have to come up with them yourself. One of my favourite rules is for what to do when you run out of chocolate hearts - you can hold onto someone else’s chocolate and tell them “I’ve stolen your heart” in the most romantic voice you have, and then it belongs to you!
Thunder in our Hearts, by Card Zero Press.
YOU are a member of a wedding party about to pull off THE BEST WEDDING EVER. You and your friends in the party are under the impression that you only have 24 HOURS left to make sure everything goes smoothly - 12 to finalize your preparation, and 12 to pull off the ceremony and reception.
You and your friends are wrong.
You are about to find yourselves trapped in a loop of those same 24 hours, living and reliving them as many times as it takes to identify every complication, refine the wedding, and get it right. No one besides you will remember the previous loops as clear as day, but make a strong enough impression on someone in one loop and it might carry to the next. What you do here matters. What you do here has to matter, if you ever want your friends to get married and stay that way.
This basically a heist game but instead of pulling of a heist, you’re pulling off a wedding. Throughout the 24 hour time loop, you’ll have to deal with unruly guests, unforeseen hazards, and your own feelings about your two friends getting married. I don’t think this game is specifically about your characters’ romantic prospects, but rather your characters rallying together to make your friends happy. If you want a fresh take on a tried-and-true genre, this might be the game for you.
Second-hand Love, by DarkerLarper.
The ship of your dreams glides over the pelagic water, just to you. It beckons, This mysterious figure known only as the Captain is looking to find their right hand.
Compete against your fellow players for the chance at the Captain's booty er… love.
Or if the bachelor was about pirates
Second-Hand Love is a game centred on relationships and building connections to gain favor. It is designed for 4-6 players, and it looks great for campy, dramatic stories. This is a game that has room for PVP, sexual interactions, and romance galore, although you can certainly customize it to fit whatever boundaries you have at the table. If you want a game that’s all about love and profit, if you want full spicy drama and plenty of chances to work both with and against your fellow players, you should check this game out.

Prompt 26. “I've never wanted to fuck anyone so badly in my life” with Virgil van Dijk 😃
now cause this fits him perfectly <333 // prompt: “I've never wanted to fuck anyone so badly in my life”
The weekend getaway had just begun, you two got in a bit later than expected so you ended up going for a drive, getting something to eat before you returned to the house. "Shots?" Your boyfriend asks, holding up the pack of shot glasses and the bottle of tequila.
"That's not even a question," you smile at him, the man coming over to sit next to you on the couch.
The two of you had plans for the next two days but tonight was just for you two to unwind. The glasses piled up on the coffee table, the table just under half way done and you two were giggly and tipsy, hands all over each other while you cuddled on the couch. Reruns of an old sitcoms played quietly, your head on his chest and half of your body on top of him as you giggled about something they said on screen.
Virgil’s hand grips your jaw, pulling you to look up at him. Your arm over his chest, your chin on your arm. “What?” You asked him, confused.
“I've never wanted to fuck anyone so badly in my life.” He says, smiling at you. You can’t help the giggle that slips out.
“What?”
“I wanna fuck you so bad,” he pulls you to kiss him, flipping you two over so you were under him.
You two were a mess of limbs and kisses, messy touches and giggles. Clothes tossed all over the floor, lips and hands roaming each other’s bodies.
Virgil leans down, your legs pressed back as he kisses you. You can feel the tip of his cock brushing over your entrance. The panties being the only thing separating you two.
The kiss is heavy, heated, pulling him closer to you despite the fact that you’re on a weird angle right now.
Your hand slips between the two of you, pushing the lace to the side. He smiles against your lips, you can feel the tip of his cock pressed between your folds before he pushes into you.
The sound leaving your mouth was like heaven on earth to him.
Your legs over his shoulders, his hips digging into the back of your thighs with each thrust. Your hand was wrapped around his bicep, squeezing and nails digging into it.
He pushes the straps off your shoulders, tits spilling out over the top of the bra. Virgil glances down, letting you drop your legs from his shoulders. Instead, you wrap them around his waist and your boyfriend leans down to kiss you once more, leaving a trial of marks and sloppy kisses until he reaches your tits.
There’s a faint purple mark between your tits; his favourite spot.
“You're so pretty like this,” he says, your hips buck, wanting more from him. He can feel you clench around his cock. “Fuck, gonna make me cum, darling.”
Virgil was still leaning over you, your hand resting on his cheek and pulling his focus back to you, eyes meeting each other; “in me.”
He looked like he had died and gone to heaven.
“In you?” He asks, making sure he heard you right. Your legs wrap around him tighter and you nod, “in me.”
Virgil’s thrusts are sloppy and between you asking him to cum in you and the way you were clenching around him, he wasn’t going to last much longer. Your hand pressed to his chest, his eyes find yours once more.
“Virg, please.” You breathe, and he gives in, he can’t help himself; you’ve got him wrapped around your finger. “Want you to fuck me full,” you whisper to him when he drops down on top of you, your arms over his shoulders.
You can feel him fucking the cum back into you, surely he's made a mess. “You’ll be the death of me,” he whispers back to you.

it's coming up on the anniversary of the first fanfic i ever posted online, something i wrote when i was 12, lying about being 13, and deeply inspired by
the book it's based on
kids tv sitcom humour
other fanfic
it is not well written and very short and also a song fic making it 65% lyrics and immensely silly
but back then i was having so much fun i would bang out a few hundred words per chapter every couple days and i would get delight from other tweens and a ranging level of polite to scornful criticisms of my piss poor spelling and grammar from some. it never hurt my feelings because it was never personal/threatening and i was very into being annoying as a hobby at the time.
my 2 entire friends and i would write about each other's favourite anime boys for each other, we talked back to characters held captive to our bad fics in authors notes, we were in the deep end of early 2000s random-core humour, we both unironically enjoyed and made fun of poorly written fanfic, everything was fanservice and everything was melodrama
i remember walking to school feeling so powerful because some rando on the other side of the world said i made them laugh with what i had written in probably like an hour and posted without any kind of editing the day before.
but that very first fic i wrote will be 20 years old exactly this month.
when i wrote it the world wide web was only available to use by the general public for about 11 years at the time.
there are adults right now who are younger than this story i wrote when i was 12
i think it's so cool, i don't really write much fanfic lately but it's so wild that i have been online this long having fun with other people because of a shared love of a work of fiction that inspires creativity no matter how casual.
obviously fandom predates the internet but there's something to be said about accounts that are older than adults still floating around, about an active backlog of actual decades of online creativity
let kids have fun making stupid stuff is what i am saying but like with utmost sincerity. and with consideration of all the risks inherent to online connectivity, i don't think the bad negates the good or that the good cancels out the impact of the bad but this post isn't about all that

for the mini blurb,,,!!
bestfriend!bg x gn!reader ❥ warning(s): beomgyu flirting (cliche hehe), reader receiving a lot of compliments, both have crushes on each other without knowing, a lot of skinship, a little guitar terms here and there, not proofread ❥ genre: fluff, drabble ❥ wc: 927
Tumblr media
friday nights were usually for you to get under the sheets of your duvet and ambient lighting from putting on your favourite sitcom on netflix as well as your fairy lights. however, beomgyu had called you to come over to his place since he's been wanting to hang out with you for some time now.
you wouldn't turn down the invite if that meant you could change up your friday night plans, but that also meant you get to hear beomgyu play his guitar for the meantime.
now you're in his room sitting on his bed as you're cuddling his ryan plush toy while he's on the sofa across you playing you a few songs and a riff he came up with on his electric guitar.
you're so fascinated by the way his fingers move along the neck of the guitar, changing the chords to produce such beautiful rhythms, and the other hand skilled with his fingers plucking specific strings.
"hey gyu, how long did you say you've been playing the guitar for?" you tilt your head to the side and he looks across over at you with a gentle smile crawling up his lips.
"I think it was around middle school. my dad taught me the basics and then I continued to teach myself. I played a few times in a band for school, but now I just like to write my own songs." he replied, almost reminiscing the good times.
you let out a long hum in response to his answer, intrigued by the thought that he's still playing the guitar after all these years.
"why'd you ask?" he places his instrument in its stand and pats the space beside him, beckoning you sit closer. and you do.
"no reason," you say, shrugging your shoulders as you sit cross legged.
"want me to teach you the easy chords? I know you don't play instruments but I have a feeling you could catch on pretty quickly." he picks up his guitar to place it onto your lap, gently lifting your hands to position them accordingly.
"I mean, I've always wanted to try but I don't think music is my strong suit."
"anything works if you put your mind to it, yn." he sits back beside you, enveloping one arm around you and placing his fingers over yours and moving them to the first easy chord. his other hand is unknowingly resting on your waist, and you were comfortable with that.
being within such close proximity is part of your norm when it comes to you and beomgyu. you always greet each other with hugs; when you're out and about you sometimes link your arm with his, and he lets you borrow his hoodies, even his favourite ones.
your friendship has been at a comfortable level for the both of you, but your crush on him hasn't hindered. you're okay with staying friends if that means you won't ruin this friendship and won't lose him.
"if you place your fingers like this," he starts, adjusting the placement of your fingers. "you almost create a cascading effect and that's the c chord." he simply explains. his voice was soft by your ear, and you'd be lying if you said that didn't give you goosebumps.
what you don't know is that it's taking everything in him to not lean his chin on your shoulder as he looks over to help you.
"so the next chord is an f. you can add your pinky to this place here," he says as he taps on your pinky and the position it should move to. you strum after you successfully play the chord clearly. "there's another way, it's a bar chord though. do you want to try?"
you nod your head in tiny movements, and beomgyu finally rests his chin on your shoulder as he carefully explains the difficult variation of the chord. his face is so close to yours, both your cheeks are almost pressed against each other.
you're so fixed on listening to his instructions and relaxed in his hold, you naturally end up tilting your head so your temple taps his. the both of you don't move your heads, just taking in this small gesture.
"you managed to play this version of the f chord too, you're a natural." he compliments you.
"I mean, I learnt from the best." you chuckle when he denies it, softly nudging your head as you continue going back and forth with the kudos.
"hmm," he hums, as he looks over at his digital clock at his desk.
"what're you thinking about now?"
"I just realised how late it is. you want to stay over or do you want me to drop you home?" he picks up his guitar, having both your fingers brushing against each other, and he puts it away again.
"I mean, I'm already here, and it is really late. but is that really okay with you?" you look up at him with your head tilted and brows closely knitted together.
"I wouldn't have asked if it wasn't." he had a point. "come on, I know this is extremely late for you on a friday night. and don't worry, I'll put a pillow between us if you want." he sends you a playful wink as he searches for another one of his hoodies for you to borrow, knowing just how much you love wearing them.
"thank you, gyu. I had fun this evening. I'm so lucky to have you." your smile meets the back of his head, not knowing if he heard the last part.
but he did. and if only you could see the soft smile on his lips because of you.

Advance apology for the long ask in a likely sea of 'em. A lot of people talk about wishing they could experience something they love again for the first time, this series was genuinely as close to that as I've ever felt. Just given the span of time my attention flucuated on and off but once the latter half of s4/s5 began my attention was absolutely nailed to your feed. Its up with Dragon Ball Z Abridged as parody series that become so dramatically effective they become a valid or definitive way to experience the series. Goddamned sensational.
Your portrayals of the characters soar. They provide a hilarious, cruder take on each that still cuts right to the soul of who these people are and lays it bare, which I think is the mission of any good-natured parody. Adora, Catra, Glimmer, Scorpia, Bow, Prime etc. There is not one that does not shine. It tackled a ton of issues and misgivings I had about canon, and even elevated or clarified many scenes and arcs through addressing them a more direct fashion. You took full advantage of not having to dress up and dance around the dark subjects canon was sort of doomed to handle inadequately given its age bracket and thematic priorities. Many scenes were jawdropping. Ive raved about it before, but your scene with Glimmer actually talking about her mom with Catra still leaves me gobsmacked every time I reread it. Your big moments towards the finale btwn Adora and Catra are obviously sublime and tie their wonderful arc off fantastically, but in my heart of hearts that cell talk will be the crown jewel of this project. Loved seeing the LGBT message take center stage in way canon had to hold back. To paraphrase Tolkien, I'm can't count myself among those gifted people, and youve def got a target audience in mind, but if youve ever worried if your stories resonate on a quote unquote "more universal" level, I promise you can put those worries to bed. Since becoming an adult ive intentionally sought out more and more queer-inclusive/created stories and I havent regretted it a bit, and the rising tide of fascist sexist/homo/transphobic bile in politics gets more and more frightening. But I've also seen how strong and resilient LGBT people are in the face of it, empowering themselves in no small part thru stories like yours. Please don't ever give up on your art. The world needs artists like you. Sorry if I come off pretentious or condescending, I feel like that when I try to get everything I think out at once. I'll be among the first to come running if you ever start another project like this or make something on an even grander scale. Thank you a thousand times for this. Also writing a wholeass sitcom pilot based on an offhand quasi-joke I made is the most weirdly touching thing I think anyones ever done "for me" (at least nominally cuz of me), especially a stranger. So thank you for that too.
Aw, you'll make me cry, you know! I think you've understood everything I wanted to do with this strip (or at least, when I started thinking beyond just 'characters saying fuck'), and... yeah, it's been an incredible journey, both for the blog and for me personally.
I've always tried to keep the parody good-natured. You can often tell, particularly in parody, when the creator dislikes one particular character (I mean, Horde Prime was probably the exception here), but I love all of them, so it really comes from a place of love. It's quite odd because I never set out to "fix" the show, and I wouldn't want to, but some things I've done seem to have had such an impact that a lot of people think I have done just that.
The Glimmer/Catra conversation is absolutely one of my favourite things I've written from this. It's such a pivotal moment in both their stories and character development, and I am truly humbled that multiple people have called it 'better than canon'. Like... I'm just some person trying to be funny and occasionally serious, and people are saying something I wrote is better than what a team of experienced professional writers did? Give over, no... But it's still a moment I can be proud of.
I won't be stopping writing things. This whole blog has given me a new lease of life and something to aim towards. I've got an excellent pilot script pretty much finished, and I do want to bring Hellspawn up to that standard too (thank you for suggesting someone make a Sweary Frosta sitcom - I'm someone!). That may well involve a complete re-write, but I'll be sure to share it.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kind words along the way. It really keeps me going :)

I was thinking about the whole... what's more progressive debate out of m/m romance representation and actually close and tender (as opposed to buddyish) m&m friendships. And how utterly futile and insulting to the need for more of both a debate it is when we need infinitely more of both and a lot of other things.
Fundamentally, between the lingering after-effects of the Hays Code and the extremist end of Christianity (not that those two are unconnected) and the patriarchy (ditto) and militarism and capitalism... in mainstream Western story media we still struggle to get *any* genuine emotional intimacy that isn't:-
romance between a different-gender couple who are both cishet, and which if it's happy will lead to marriage (but hasn't yet).
marriage between ditto, but only if they haven't been together very long (after they have for a few years they're supposed to bicker all the time).
at an extreme pinch, fond closeness between blood relatives, especially if at least one of them is a woman.
Friendships between men and between women are okay so long as there's a... distancing of rivalry and teasing. If you can imagine one of them tucking the other in or stroking their hair (especially if they're both men) or being utterly and wholly in solidarity with each other (especially if they're both women)... hm, no.
And that's... it. We're still at a point in mainstream western media where anything that deviates from, especially to the extent of serious warmth and trust and confidence and understanding between the characters, that feels at least a little transgressive, especially in e.g. a blockbuster movie. We're still at a point where everything else is under-represented. Less and less so, thank everything, but still.
I'm thinking of some of my favourite relationships in fiction at the moment and how they fuck with those stereotypes and do better things (and always as part of awesome stories, because as always, good rep is important but it should never be treated as everything). :-) This is inevitably a v personal list, I'm not claiming that anything here is The Purest And Least Problematic Thing Ever, and this is very much just a, "this is what's enthusing me right now" thing. :D
yes they're a het couple and both cis, but: Mike and Alison Cooper in Ghosts. They have been married for a few years now, and they actually like each other. They're best friends as well as lovers, and I know that some critics have actually had a problem with this and regard it as unrealistic. [facepalm] I adore so much that they're not a stereotypical sitcom married couple, nothing like. In a quiet way they are utterly defiant and fuck completely with the genre.
Donna Noble & the Doctor in Doctor Who. I mean, do I need to say much more? :D Close, glorious platonic friendship between a woman and... the Doctor. Some of the most beautiful platonic love in any fiction ever and it's so tender and gorgeous and fun. Adore it. <3
Red, White, and Royal Blue is a silly film but omg I adore it and part of it is seeing all of those standard romance beats between two men. And with a lot more true closeness than a lot of het romcoms manage. We're getting more and more of this (we need more between women too, and indeed other queer romances of many and various kinds!!!). <3 <3 <3
yes, they're shit at expressing their love for each other most of the time, but I still stubbornly add: E Morse & Fred Thursday in Endeavour. The fact that they're inhabiting the 1960s-70s and there is no framework for their mutual affection and devotion is of course part of why things get so hard for them both. They don't know what to do with it or where to place each other in their priorities, but the loyalty and the tenderness is there, and some remarkable emotional intimacy at times considering who they both are. We watch and interpret it as father-son or as romantic or as fraternal or as an intense and wonderful (and complicated and difficult) friendship. But it defies easy definition and... and oh goodness well anyone who's been following me for any length of time knows how I can go on about them, apologies. ;-)
the entire Fellowship of the Ring, but especially Frodo and Sam. And whatever my mixed feelings on the PJ films of The Lord of the Rings, my Gods am I endlessly glad and grateful that they retained warmth and intensity and devotion and intimacy. I worry that it wouldn't have been if made now, with a more stereotypical masculinity so much in the ascendant in mainstream film-making (we really are in the midst of a patriarchal/homophobic/transphobic reaction :( ). As with Morse and Thursday, you can absolutely interpret some of the connections there as romantic (and we know that Tolkien was remarkably non-homophobic for a man of his generation and religion), or as platonic. Either way, what matters is that there's serious love there between male characters and that goes right back to the books. Tolkien could be problematic af, but I love him so much for how he writes masculinity and love between men. <3
Heartstopper, not just for Nick/Charlie and Tara/Darcy, but also because of Charlie's friendships with Elle, Isaac, and (especially, actually) Tau.
everything with Found Family, and especially everything with Found Family where there is no easy equivalence to a "nuclear" family to map the characters on to.
Honestly I could go on. Hooray for all of these! But also: we are still in a position where these all feel subversive and make a lot of the more bigoted critics spectacularly uncomfortable (even when there is no actual queer rep). We're still in a position where mainstream film series and some tv shows struggles with anything like this, and/or will sabotage a friendship between men and even an entire character arc because it's got too close and intimate and there's a desperate need to "no homo" everything (*coughs* Steve Rogers *coughs*). We're still in a position where romance between women and any romance involving trans people of any gender is dramatically under-everythinged (but that between cis men is also still not exactly even a fraction of where it should be). We're still in a position where honestly even the representation of romance between cishet characters is most often weirdly distant and lacks real closeness or mutual liking between them (often, let's face it, because the writers struggle to write women as people). I snarked a bit at first about the debate as to which is more important and under-represented between m/m romance and really open and loving m&m friendship, but honestly the main problem with that debate is that dividing up the exact same problem: we aren't going to get more open and loving representations of m&m friendship until the media get less afraid of the relationship being interpreted as romantic whether or not it is, by both fans and haters. (I.e. don't blame the shippers when a production company loses their nerve and trashes a friendship between men so that it's not seen as romantic! Blame homophobia. I mean, to put it on its simplest real-life terms, it's consistently my experience in the UK at least that het male allies are in general vastly more comfortable hugging each other than homophobes are.)
