#still obsessed with dwarves ngl

some vaguely incoherent thoughts on rings of power season 1 below (spoilers) 

okay so I LOVE the original lotr (was a super obsessed 10 year old when the first film came out) and I genuinely enjoyed this show. I have a few gripes, and I understand some of the discourse, understand the criticisms, but i had an overall good time watching it and i think if you don’t take it too seriously it can be fun so 

- honestly the story plot involving the harfoots and the stranger was by far my favourite and i would probably defend nori and poppy with my own life if necessary. I just love the harfoots so much. I’m so fond of their wandering carts and their cart-related sayings and all of the ever changing twigs and brambles and acorns strewn in their hair !! 

- although the whole ‘if you stray during a wandering or just plain cant keep up with your cart, we’re going to carry on anyway and leave you to fall behind but don’t worry we’ll remember you’ was absolutely savage wow. 

- I think it’s about 99% confirmed that the stranger is Gandalf at this point? which honestly makes my heart so happy if its true!! To think he was so fond of hobbits because a group of hobbit ancestors found him in his vulnerable amnesiac post-sent-to-earth state and showed him friendship and kindness and hospitality and even defended him against darker beings so much more powerful than themselves who would have taken him and twisted him into something harmful!! I don’t care if it doesn’t fit into the original lore just let me have this. 

- i tried so hard to care about bronwyn and theo and Arondir but i just didn’t. Theo mostly just annoyed me. Maybe I’ll grow to care more about them in season 2. also as much as I love the concept of girlpower and girls being in charge as much as anyone, i didn’t really think it made sense for the villagers to automatically look to bronwyn for leadership as much as they did? 

- although that said, i was super intrigued by the surrounding storyline with the orcs building tunnels under their village. absolutely did not see the eventual flooding of the tunnels coming at all and even though it was terrible for all the good characters it was such a borderline satisfying SO THAT WAS WHAT THEY WERE UP TO ALL ALONG OMG moment 

- just accept that the elves with short hair are going through their rebellious youth fashion phase and it makes it all so much better

- the concept of the dwarves singing to the mountain and the very rocks of its foundations to release dwarves who had been trapped by a mining rockfall ?? absolutely beautiful ?? and Disa doing the singing ??? INSPIRED. I mean I’m still sad we didnt get any bearded lady dwarves but I’ll take what i can get. 

- was super convinced that Halbrand was going to turn out to be one of the nazgul kings and i think that blinded me to the eventual Sauron reveal. 

- still struggling to wrap my head around Sauron / Halbrand’s master plan during this series though because ?? like most of where he ended up was accidental? I can’t quite piece together how much was plotting and planning on his end and how much was sheer dumb luck.  like how did he even know the elves were making rings at Eregion before he got there?? did galadriel let something slip that I can’t remember ??

- ngl i would totally read some galadriel x sauron nc-17 rated fic. 

- overall the music didn’t quite hit me like the original lotr trilogy (although maybe it will if i listen to it some more) but Poppy’s Wandering Song made me feel so many things 

- sad that we didn’t get assumed-dead isildur being rescued by his horse in this season, like aragorn was in two towers, but it’s gotta be coming in season 2 right? 

- all of the sets and costumes were absolutely STUNNING. it was cool to see Numenor in all its glory especially 

- also are we eventually going to get baby Arwen maybe?? I have no idea how old she’s supposed to be in lotr / when she would have been born, but it can’t be far off and i’m fairly certain Elrond hasn’t mentioned having a daughter yet 

- still super conflicted about having to watch this on amazon prime and tie my soul to amazon for as long as they keep making this and carry on giving jeff bezos money but this is the world we live in and so here we are

OMGosh can you just Imagine what it must've been like to be a dwarf of Erebor watching your grumpy brooding king fall in love with an aggressive soft burgler?? To see the mutual pining?? To wonder if they're ever gonna hitch up?? Can you imagine the Gossip??

I can see it now, Thorin and Bilbo have wandered off Again, and everyone immediately huddles to discuss. Nori would say something like "you think they're gonna shag" and Dori would clap his hands over Ori's ears and say LANGUAGE there are CHILDREN present while Fili and Kili look Supremely uncomfortable at the thought of their uncle shagging Anybody, as Balin just smiles pleasantly in the background(cause he Knows they're gonna shag and he fully supports their union)

SwSh Characters and Disney Movies

((Idk, let’s just do this))

Milo

A sucker for Disney Princess movies. Specifically loves Snow White and the Seven Dwarves the most. He always whistles the song ‘Hi Ho’ while working in the fields sometimes (which, ngl, is an ear worm of a song).

Is a big crybaby when certain Disney characters die. Ray the Firefly’s death from TPATF? Bambi’s mothers death? Mufasa’s death from TLK? Expect Milo to sob his eyes out for well over a few minutes.

Has a playlist for every Disney song in existence.

If he’s watching a Disney movie with his s/o, he’ll usually bring a blanket to cuddle and something warm to drink while watching whatever Disney movie.

Nessa

Pretty much obsessed over the movies The Little Mermaid and Moana. Anything that deals with the ocean is an immediate favorite of hers.

Disney bounds (sort of like cosplaying) like crazy! She can pull off any style for whatever character she’s dressing as!

Secretly knows most of the songs from The Little Mermaid by memory. Has been caught singing ‘Part Of Your World’ while swimming with her Pokémon once.

Doesn’t usually cry during a Disney movie, but sometimes the happy endings do get to her.

When watching a Disney movie with their s/o, Nessa will lip sync some of the songs or dialogue to herself, but their s/o will catch them doing it.

Kabu

Not one for Disney movies, but he does enjoy some of their Disney Nature (anyone remember those?) films.

But if he does happen to watch an animated Disney film, then Kabu would most likely go in and out of attention.

When watching some Disney films with his s/o, Kabu would usually talk during the movie. It annoys his s/o, so they would tell Kabu to quiet down and just enjoy the film.

Bea

Like with Kabu, Bea isn’t that big on Disney movies. However, if there is one Disney movie that she’ll watch entirely, it would be Mulan.

Likes characters who can stand up for themselves and take charge, so Bea would rather choose Mulan over any other Disney movie.

Won’t ever admit to anyone that she almost got choked up during the ending where Mulan reunites with her father.

When watching a Disney movie with their s/o, Bea is usually stoic while their s/o is a lot more engaged with the movie.

Allister

As a Ghost type child, Allister enjoy watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. Doesn’t matter if it’s a debatable Disney film, Allister will watch it regardless.

Has seen TNBC so many times that Allister has the movie memorized. He can quote any line from the film with little to no trouble.

Enjoys the opening song the most; will rewind to the opening song over and over many times!

When watching the movie with his s/o, both Allister and his s/o will sing the songs together and share some sweets while watching the film!

Bede

Won’t admit it, but Bede does enjoy the movie Tangled.

Bede can’t put his finger on why; he just likes the movie.

Not one for typical Disney songs, but Bede does enjoy the song ‘I See The Light’.

When he’s with his s/o, Bede would try to not be too interested but ends up getting too emotionally wrapped up in the film that he ends up crying at the end.

Piers

Piers doesn’t watch too many Disney films, but he has seen a few that he does enjoy. He really likes The Hunchback of Norte Dame and, to everyone’s surprise, Fantasia.

Piers can’t really explain why he likes those movies. All he can say that they make him feel something.

Would usually watch those Disney’s movies if he needs to decompress.

Whenever he’s watching a Disney movie with his s/o, Piers would more than likely doze off from time to time, which results in him missing out on the most the film.

Gordie

Big sucker for action and adventure, so Big Hero 6 and The Incredibles are huge favorites for him!

Loves to quote the lines from either movie and would try to impersonate some of the characters while saying the lines out loud.

Will get into a blushing mess if his s/o catches him doing that, which he’ll end up denying.

Even so, his s/o finds it both cute and hilarious that Gordie does this and would play along while the movie is still playing!

Melony

I’m just gonna say it: Melony is a sucker for Frozen.

She doesn’t care if the movie has been overplayed to death! She’ll turn on this movie no matter what!

Has heard ‘Let It Go’ and ‘Do You Wanna Build A Snowman’ over a million times.

When with her s/o, Melony will beg them to do a duet with her for the song ‘Love Is An Open Door’.

Raihan

Like with Bea, Mulan is hands down his favorite Disney movie.

Raihan is the type of guy who talks while the movie is playing. Whether it’s commenting on a character or just about whatever, Raihan never shuts up.

Will get into arguments about which Disney movie is the best. He and Leon have been debating between Mulan and The Lion King that it is ridiculous!

When he’s with his s/o, Raihan would probably either take a selfie or livestream both him and his s/o watching the Disney film.

Leon

As it comes as no surprise, Leon loves The Lion King. I mean, it’s sort of obvious because Leon sounds like Lion...get it? No? Okay...

He and Hop both like this movie and would play out the scene between Mufasa and Scar. Sibling relationship at its finest!

Other than The Lion King, Leon will watch any Disney film tbh. However, no matter the Disney film, he will always prefer The Lion King.

When with his s/o, Leon will cuddle them and overall just be an adorable fanboy of TLK!

So HERE'S a question-

What is the pattern for naming dwarves?

We have Gloin and Oin who are brothers, but Gloins son is a Gimli, and they share the G but not the rhyme.

And then Fili and Kili are brothers, sons of Vili, and they don't share letters but they DO share the rhyme. And they're sons of Dìs?? So... None of her name in there

And of course we have Dori, Nori and Ori, who are brothers and again share the rhyme.

And we have Thorin and his brother Frerin, which are sons of Thrain, son of Thror. (And again, we have Dìs here). Does the first letter(s) pass down to the oldest son? But not always? Also girl names are exempt??

And then of course we have Balin and Dwalin, who rhyme.

But then we also have Dain son of Nain, and they rhyme, but now it's father and son!??

Somebody do more research for me here there just be a reason all the names are like this.

So like? I reread the story of the creation of the dwarves? And Aüle made them against Eru's wishes and etc etc etc but all the Dwarves he made were supposedly men? They were kings?? And I'm like.... Well that CAN'T be right bc last time I checked you need two to tango y'all so what You're Sayin is some of these dwarf kings were actually men or you made girl dwarves and we never talked about it but something tells me that's Not what happened and in other words, Dwarves Are Trans and in this essay I will-

Sometimes I think a LOT about Lady Dìs and how she was rightfully the Heir to the throne of Erebor but Dain took it instead

And we like, don't KNOW that Dain took it instead but...I have a feeling that the Dwarven society is not one that doesn't allow dwarven queens bc dwarves just... Did Gender Better?? At least that's Fandom's perception of it.

And so like all I can think about is how devastated Dìs must've been, to have her grandfather and father killed, both her brothers, her husband and then at last her sons die. She must feel cursed, surrounded by death, sick of it. I picture her sitting stone-faced and cold like the dead themselves, for all she loved was taken from her. And that is why Dìs did not take the throne. She wanted nothing of it. All her kin had died for it and she would not touch what took her family so cruelly and suddenly from her.

Ugh haven't posted anything recently bc of work but I DID have this dream that I was in thorins company and Bofur and I were like... BFFS and we would cuddle up to sleep at night and he was so sweet and nice and I DIDN'T hook up with the hotter majestic dwarf and leave poor Bofur at the end (cough cough, BiLbO). Usually my dreams are buck wild but this one was just full of a sweet dwarf man
