can't stop thinking abt ur doc and beef comparison... they really are like opposites. Also ik u said the herding dog x lamb x wolf was more for grumdoc dynamic but i think it could apply to the beef, doc, mumby one as well. Especially cause one would assume beef is the herding dog and doc the wolf - only to be quite caught of guard that theyre wrong when beef gets his hands on mumby ehehe.. :3

Anon, you know me, I like my cheerful bubbly men to have that certain pinch of danger, that touch of obsessive, I mean- how many is it now? With Scar and Impulse, Grian, to a certain degree and they're just the specifically cheerful ones (Xisuma doesn't count, not yet). But Beef? VintageBeef himself?

I do write him as someone with a lil something slithering beneath his handsome, beaming smile, but when you categorized it as hunger, anon I have to say, it all started to make sense.

It's easy, I think, to look at Beef at a distance, see his charming smile, the excitable way he talks, his bouncy bubbly personality and take that as face value. Just as easy to disregard the sharpness of his canines and that look in his eyes, everything he's buried under the heavy layers of restraint and self control.

He knows himself, knows what he's capable of and only a handful of people have scratched the surface of it. But he loves his friends y'know, from the past and all through the present and he knows himself, what he's capable of and he's spent so much time reigning himself in, moulding himself until the danger is all but gone and love's the only thing he's capable of offering.

That doesn't mean his teeth aren't sharp though.

So! The herding dog and the wolf are friends and they spent a good chunk of the past together and they know- eh I'd say most of each others capabilities. Where does our lovely lamb fit in?

Well, Mumbo has a certain... magnetism around him, even with how aloof he was in the beginning, how rare his interactions were (we've talked about this before and will do in the future), but its in both Beef and Doc's nature to be drawn to him.

It only really started during season 5, just... surface-level stuff, a budding curiosity. It felt like both of them were at the cusp of something significant. But there were many other distractions, a lot more games, and they both left early so it didn't really go anywhere in the end.

Season 6 came and Grian did his thing, now Mumbo was a little less avoidant and a little more present. Doc was there, his eyes now looking at Mumbo, rapidly growing fonder, but Beef wasn't and Doc had let his guard down.

Season 7 and Beef was back! Doc, caught in the joy of the reunion didn't even think to put his guard back up and honestly? He didn't really need to at this point. Beef had spent the season away further dulling his claws after all.

But again, that damn curiosity, not to mention the fact that Doc had already sated his.

During the welcome back party Doc had taken it upon himself to catch him up to things he missed, talking his ear off as he eagerly listened. But as the night wore on and their supply of alcohol dwindled, Doc's tongue got looser and looser and the man is talkative when he's drunk.

Who knows how their conversation steered towards Mumbo as they huddled closer and closer, Etho and Bdubs already conked out for the night, maybe Doc just recognized his past hunger brimming on the edges of Beef's cordial smile, but he spared no detail and that made that age old curiosity burn.

Beef would then find himself subconsciously stalking Mumbo, keeping his eyes pinned on him like he was prey. Time passed, the honeymoon happens and maybe this is why Beef was like that, so sure of himself, so... in the know. Maybe the honeymoon wasn't as spontaneous as it could've been even... who knows.

I just think it's funny that the wolf only got to the lamb because the herding dog barked when he wasn't supposed to.

Tropes ask

Experimentation on a tiny where the tiny is unharmed but unwilling to it

Now I must admit, this one caught me off guard a little bit.

First and foremost the context of what emotions we feel while interacting with these tropes is the most insightful. Interested, anxious, excited, fearful etc... would all heavily impact the lens in which we examine a trope.

I would also assume the type of experimentation would offer a lot of insight. Examination, simple testing, more sci-fi esque experimentation could also have very different implications.

What does this mean?? It means this trop has a proverbial ton of different interpretations. I'll list out a few examples along with the flow of logic on how to examine them so you can further self analyze.

Now this is definitely perspective dependent, so lets begin with the tiny perspective. Lets say the tiny is being examined by the Giant, while the giant is deeply interested, but in a cold and clinical fashion. During this particular fantasy, you are personally anxious.

Through this example one may assume that being so closely and coldly examined makes one feel exposed and lacking privacy, and the anxious accompanying feeling is the mind identifying with the tiny, suggesting perhaps in ones day to day life they feel constantly under the spotlight, regardless if this is true or not. It could suggest a lack of confidence and self-consciousness, or maybe a very literal lack of privacy. Perhaps the individual has strange interests/habits/traits that they fear being found out, so the brain fixates on an examination scenario as a sort of preparation.

Lets try another scenario. The individual in question identifies more so with the giant, and feels excited by the thought of simple testing on the unwilling tiny. This could suggest some sadistic tendencies, which is more normal than it sounds. It is natural to have a craving to exert one's power or will over another as it makes the individual feel more secure in themselves. Is it a healthy fantasy? that could be debated either direction, but I am here to examine, not judge. This exhilaration could arise from lacking control in ones own life, and enjoying gaining that control by taking it from others in a risk free environment (tiny is unharmed).

I would recommend picking apart the specific aspects as to why you like this trope and dissection the with the emotional lens mentioned earlier.

Okay my thoughts on the renegades ending.

Turns out Juan isn’t as much of a bastard as I give him credit for. I was expecting full blown chaotic evil dictatorship (akin to Vass Montenegro/Rais) but…he’s decent. At least compared to them. He’s still a tyrant but not like a “I’m building a pit and sending men to fight because I enjoy gore” evil but more like a “lolz people are dying on the street but I got all the good whiskey so let’s party” evil. And throughout the story you can tell his intentions weren’t that bad (at least that’s what he tells Aiden). He did want to uncover Matt’s conspiracy and is honestly the first character to openly lay out the shitiness of that guy (besides the unnamed officer form a collectible tape). And provided decent evidence that Jack Matt was the culprit for Black Monday, and therefore a power hungry fascist leader who’s willing to gamble millions of life for his own goal. So in a way. What he said during his public execution on my first playthrough was kinda true. And he ordered a court martial, an official trail. Perhaps that’s the reason Jack Matt didn’t show up during the X-13 mission. I guess he was overthrown. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that he kinda became something worse LMAO. I’m not cutting this guy any slack he’s still a prick but he’s also pathetic and gay and whimpers because he hates seeing his own blood. (But you could also argue that, the renegades that took over Villedor weren’t the cardboard cutout evil henchmen commanded by Waltz but a separate group lead by colonel Williams which could be seen as less amoral). But the ending is also kinda spicy cuz if you look closely they are protesting on the STREETS at NIGHT without UV meaning the renegades either got rid of all the zombies or made the place much safer to walk around without dying. Which is a W imo. And I’d like to argue food shortage is better than water shortage in the PK ending. And if we are REALLY going that way I could also argue this ending at least let’s you protest unlike the fascist PK supreme. But yeah he’s still a funny loser prick too afraid to step out of his floating castle because he knows the people are mad at him. Over all the missions were fun too, there were a LOT of stealth/spying missions which weren’t exactly my strong suit. I failed a mission 3 times because I kept alerting the guards (that I can’t just fucking kill). My favorite was probably the cathedral demolisher fight. And strangely enough, the side quest where you fight Hakon is a main quest for this one. It’s essentially the same but something you can’t skip and plays a part in the story. Only difference: Even if you chose to spare Hakon, your relationship with him isn’t exactly fixed. EVEN if you get to the homoerotic I don’t want to fight you let’s see the ocean together part. If you convinced Lawan to spare him. Instead of Lawan letting him go he just BONKED HER ON THE HEAD while her back was turned. Also later on he showed up with the renegades, had the exact conversation I posted yesterday, and gross failed ex relationship ensued. Which leads me to believe my save file was corrupted, the game registered me as somehow taking the Juan route and therefore gave me that cutscene. The rest of the game is pretty much the same, the ending- Aiden leaves alone anyway but I think there’s NO reason he can’t leave with anyone? The city has gone to shit and what’s the point in staying. Or alternatively techland could have given us a renegades officer Aiden or co-rule ending if they weren’t COWARDS. Like cmon this would be such a cool idea. Aiden going full evil mode lol. Overall I think it was fun and I got to spend some time with my boy Juan and holy shit he talks so much and panics whenever something goes wrong (which working with him, means all the fucking time). Him almost losing it every time he thought something was wrong was hilarious. Feral rat man. And they have some good chemistry too. Like actual “Aiden going on some death trip to impress some boy” relationship. Then again I feel like we’ve been robbed. Like I said where’s my evil Aiden route lol.

@ruestew here’s part two of the ask! Again I’ll try to be as concise with my reasoning as possible.

*Honestly I feel like I didn’t do enough justice in explaining how I feel about The Narrator. I probably need to dedicate a week of my time to create like, and essay about him because I feel like I got a lot more to say about him

My thoughts expanded under “read more”

“They are soooooo cool looking sounding”— Yeah he’s a disembodied voice and doesn't actually have a physical form, but Kevan does fantastic job in his voice work. He sells it so well in his deliveries, you can just feel when he’s having a good time, or when he’s distraught or scared, or furious at the situation. There’s so much range in his voice performance, and it does make The Narrator seem…real. And that alone, makes him cool looking sounding to me.

“They are deeper than they seem”— The game clearly shows us that The Narrator is extremely complex, both in the OG and UD (though it’s WAY more expanded upon in Ultra Deluxe). In the OG, he desperately wants the player to play the story in the way that HE wanted you to play it (Freedom Ending). But, he makes other options that lead to a variety of endings, yet still hopes that you choose “correctly”. Probably in order to give the illusion to the player that “Yes, your choices do matter and you do have free will.” (Which, while is probably not a new hot take, it is completely ironic to think about. As TSP literally consists of you trying to free yourself from The Narrators preferred path, but he wont allow it, even though his correct ending he made is about us trying to make our own choices for once and free ourselves from the machine). In the UD, he’s stuck in the past, thinking that his work IS perfect and loved by everybody (which to be fair, TSP pretty much is). But when he learns that there are people who don’t like it, it takes him on a downward spiral mentally, and arguably creatively. He thinks he has to cave into trying to create work for and audience that love the OG, and for an audience that wanted things such as gags or ways that make them feel comfortable about the games meta narrative. The result is that he made something that, in actuality, didn’t need to be made. But he felt like he needed too, in order to show others (and himself) that his work hasn’t dropped in quality and is on par, if not even better than the first. That his story means something and that by just adding the stuff that he thinks he needs to add, will make more people see what the meaning is.

“Wow! They are a horrible person”/“They’ve never done anything wrong in their life <33”/“Wow… They are literally me!— He is literally fine with killing off Stanley/The Player at any given point (and even mock them as they die). He will belittle Stanley/The Player when they don’t follow the story or break the game in some way. Yet also wants to try to make Stanley/The Player/Fans happy. He wants to give them some sort of control over the game. Specifically, in UD, even though he encountered a few negative feedbacks, he instantly wants to give those fans what they want. Also, him struggling with trying to make something perfect in his eyes while also trying to please the masses in some way, and him having the intense fear of being alone and that he needs his work to be heard is justtt,,,, man. It’s something that makes me feel bad, and it some areas, I do relate to it a whole lot (at least with wanting to be heard in some way).

“They work better as part of a dynamic”— Do I even need to explain why he should NOT be separated from Stanley/The Player at any point though seeing how he reacts to being alone definitely is an eye opener to his character that was only barely touched on in the OG, with that ending where you see Stanley not moving (dunno the ending name to that).

“They’re like a blorbo to me”/I’m mentally ill about them”— See points above

a small psa? note thing? to say that i am planning on responding to as many, if not all my drafts before i go on holiday in three weeks time ... however, i know the majority of them are about 2/3 months old. while i will be replying to them, i just want my mutuals to know that there is literally no pressure to reply to them if you have no muse for them, can’t remember how the plot went or simply wish to start something new because it has been so long.
