Masterlist of known plagiarising blogs/accounts - accounts to block

THEOfficialProngs on AO3/Wattpad - stole 26 different stories from 26 different fanfic writers from across various platforms and fandoms. Claims to get permission and will give credit, but in fact got no permission off of any of the writers and gave credit to no one. For example, my Bucky x reader smut fic ‘What A Girl Wants’ was stolen and uploaded to their account on AO3. All 26 stolen fics have since been deleted from both AO3 and Wattpad. Evidence here

User never-lxft (used to be foregin-pxssy) on tumblr has quite alot of call-out posts made about them; they have been caught stealing smut fics and reusing them for different fandoms. Evidence here

user bucketbarnes1917 on tumblr stole work from metalbuckaroo. Evidence here. When called out they also used aggressive homophobic slurs and denied responsibility.

i'm always a bit unsettled by disdain for intellectual or creative labor in leftist spaces. there's this commonly held belief that academics are a bunch of rich old white men, rather than a wide variety of people who are barely getting by. most lecturers in universities are adjuncts living paycheck to paycheck. authors make very little money as a general rule. most researchers are overworked and underpaid. and yet there's still this idea that academics are overcompensated to sit around and smoke cigars together while making shit up

Hello, I'm not sure if you're aware, but tumblr is going to start helping midjourney gather data for their AI. You're one of the artists I follow here pretty actively and I wanted to warn you to maybe start nighshading your art before posting it here so it doesn't get swept up!

I've seen a couple of posts about it. Feeling disappointed but not that surprised. Also not excited about having to start nightshading/glazing my pieces but if there isn't going to be any serious regulations regarding data scraping and ai "art", there aren't a lot of choices.

Thank you for taking the time to warn me just in case, it was very thoughtful of you!

Moscow Auction House Sells a $1 Million Painting Stolen from a Ukrainian Museum

In Russia, Ukrainian artist Ivan Aivazovsky’s painting “Moonlit Night” has been put up for auction, according to Ukraine’s former Deputy Attorney General and Prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Gyunduz Mamedov, who has reported the auction plans.

Russia’s looting and destruction of Ukrainian museums and cultural heritage sites have resulted in significant losses, with nearly 40 museums plundered and almost 700 heritage sites damaged or destroyed since the invasion began in February 2022, causing cultural losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of euros.

The first report that “Moonlit Night” will be the main lot of the auction, which will take place at the Moscow Auction House on 18 February, appeared on the Telegram channel by Russia’s state-funded news agency RIA Novosti, noting that the painting was estimated at 100 million rubles (approximately $1.09 million) before the sale.

‘In 2017, [Interpol], at the request of [Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea], put the paintings on the international wanted list. Thus, Russia openly disregards [international law], as according to the 1970 UNESCO Convention, the export of cultural properties and transfer of ownership is prohibited,” Mamedov emphasized on X.

In 2014, during the early stages of Russia’s occupation of Crimea, Aivazovsky’s painting “Moonlit Night” was illegally transferred to the Simferopol Art Museum, along with 52 other artworks.

In 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, some of his works were destroyed in an airstrike on the Kuindzhi Art Museum in Mariupol, and others were looted by Russian forces from Mariupol and Kherson museums, including “The Storm Subsides,” which was moved to the Central Taurida Museum in Simferopol, Crimea.

Topic of today’s rant: PEOPLE PRINTING AND SELLING FANFIC & GENERAL FANDOM ETIQUETTE

Profiting from fanfic will ruin it for everyone.

I want all of you who gift us your stories to be safe from lawsuits and beware that your content might be stolen.

Not to be on a soapbox and preaching to the choir but here are.

There are many authors pulling their work off AO3 because people acting on bad faith are printing and binding fics to sell on etsy thus infringing copyright laws. Fanfic has always been a grey area and we are allowed to exist in this grey area because we are not profiting from it. The minute money is exchanged, every party involved is breaking the law.

Why am I complaining about this yet again? Because we might be deprived from enjoying fanfic with the freedom we currently have because the fanfic authors will fear getting sued. If third parties are stealing our work and selling it, publishers and studios won’t care to know who sold it. It is your handle (thus IP address) on the sold fanfic. Because, get this, they are doing downloads straight from ao3 with your usernames.

Manacled is being pulled from ao3 because the author will publish it as a book. People are putting the book at risk by selling printed versions of it on Etsy.

I believe many of us who fall on the 20 years of reading fanfic side rather than on the 20 year olds reading fanfic will remember the Anne Rice days. These are not fully over because her son is carrying on the legacy of suing everyone who writes fanfic of her work. And if I may say, she didn’t invent vampires and should’ve taken many seats. I digress.

I am not sure of the levels of awareness within this community and to what extent it can affect all of us. TikTok is a massive contributor to this problem (as it is to many other problems. Again, I digress) since booktok and the binding folks discovered ao3.

You might think, I only post on tumblr so my content is safe. Well, they are finding their way here too. They cringe because tumblr is for old people but they still make their way here with their bad manners and pillaging behaviour.

I want all of you who gift your stories to be safe, lawsuit free, not lose your content and not be afraid of sharing.

I wish I had a definitive solution to this problem but I can only think of small actions:

report the etsy accounts selling fanfic/fanfic commissions,

report the TikTok accounts selling binding for fanfic work,

go back to the days of putting disclaimers on your notes that you don’t own the characters and you are not profiting from the story.

Tagging some authors* here for visibility so you can cascade to more people. Absolutely no pressure tag.

I wanted to take some time sharing my awful experience this this person in particular. The original post has an error that does not let me repost, like or even see the original poster’s account, that’s why I have screenshots.

So I never thought I’d be reminded of this asshole this year yet here I am. My work has also been used and uncredited by this guy last year. I commented on the first video where my art was used and uncredited asking to please not use my and others work unless it is credited or asked with permission. He replied with “my g”…..(istg).

So a month later he used the same work again with no credit nor permission. I commented asking if he was seriously using my work again without permission. The video that my work was in was filled to the brim with nsfw art and comics. It was gross and uncomfortable to see my comic being compared to that. My comic was just for laughs and for my Sonadow followers. And this jerk had to make it weird and extremely sexual. He replied trying to act innocent and saying that my work wasn’t in the video. He completely lied to me even though my work was right in front of me in the video. I even received a death threat from another commenter saying they have an organization that will k*ll me and take all my belongings cause they “don’t care.” How sweet-

After that, I stopped wasting my time with him and just continued on with my life. And of course he came back and made AN ENTIRE VIDEO about how my art “sucks ass” and that it’s stupid to give artists credit and ask permission. He uses the “copyright law” excuse to continue using art in his videos. He struggles throughout the video to give excuses and make points as to why it’s “stupid.” Honestly, the whole video is childish since most of the time he’s just swearing and saying f you to anyone that disagrees with him. He even says “Corffee? More like Crappy.” Oh I’m shaking in my boots right now.

Anyway, I hope people are informed enough about this child and help support artists who are affected by art theft and people like him. Peace.

Now Jason was planning on, well, a lot of things, when he came back to Gotham. He had a lot of plans, several of which had to do with the old man and even more that had to do with cleaning up Crime Alley, making it safer and all that. 

What he was not planning on was to find some sort of lab in the basement of where he was planning on setting up a safehouse. Nor was he planning on finding several literal children in cages inside said lab. Oh and Lazarus Waters- but children! With muzzles! Being experimented on!

Now he’d like to say he had a plan in what happened next, but if he’s honest everything had gone Green and he didn’t remember what happened next, only that he’s back home with said children and covered in blood. Oh and everything smells of smoke.
